I downed a ranger the other day in a swamp area. Not enough water to go underneath. I had some pressure, so it took me about 5 seconds to get to him to try and stomp. He interupted me, so I started attacking. His pet got there and started to heal. I went back to stomp, and I failed on 3 straight attempts. Any why that might have been?

If I was running Sword/Dagger & Axe/Torch & put Energy & Geomancy on each set, would I get the effect of both on each Swap?

Thx for your help guys. I think I just need to keep tweaking my gear until I find that balance of burst to survivability.

I tend to stay away from sPVP discussions because it doesn’t interest me. So Area Denial isn’t something I’ve looked for. In solo skirmish WvW, it’s more about getting kills while being able to adapt to fluid situations.

Interesting. I already have a full set of that armor with Melandru runes from a previous build that I ran. Think it was Nerva’s build he posted a few months ago.

Trait setup is different though, so maybe I’ll give this a shot. I’ve been missing the escapability of my GS anyway.

Or send money to those that do all that and are nice enough to post their findings for the rest of us saps who were stupid enough to get married & have a mess of kids. :P

BTW, I run a similar build to this and it really works as advertised. Hard as heck to kill. Enough DPS to kill most given enough time to get the job done. “Enough time” is the challenge though.

I run full apoth armor, half apoth trinkets other half rabbid, dwayna on the armor, Apoth weapons (I think) with the trinket that stacks healing. 30/10/30 standard bunker build. I think I have around 1,100 healing.

I just watch Kalo’s vid that he posted, and those fights look very similar to the fights that I have. Takes forever to drop competent players. Takes forever to drop me. Most fights end with adds one way or the other.

I would also point out that I’m probably not operating at 100% efficiency. Maybe with some more experience, I’ll start dropping guys quicker.

Valk vs. Reaver Both had their time near the top of the food chain. Think I had about 500 solo kills on my Reaver. Old Leviathan was the burst I’m talking about in this thread. When they nerfed Levi, but added the Lifetap from the side chain, I think Reavers became an even better 1 v. 1 class, but soloing out in NF became tougher after losing the spike DPS of Levi. Survivability doesn’t help you get a kill when it’s 5 on 1.

I remember running Friar/Pally duo for a couple of months with a buddy. We both ran BM and with the pally’s twisting including haste & endo regen, we could just spam the aoe sheer style. It was like a valk on crack.

You run the Clerics set over the Apoth set correct?

I miss the ability to burst a target down, and then get away that I could do in DAOC. Seems like the burst builds like running zerk on my Thief are so easy to counter in this game that they really only work on newer or distracted players, so you kind of have to move towards a more sustainable build that means longer drawn out fights that run the (strong) risk of getting added on.

Bah, I’m just frustrated.

These builds are built for a solo skirmishing playstyle, which is how I prefer to play. I played mostly solo in DAOC for over a decade. For me, it’s the most rewarding playstyle. So, on paper it seems like a good fit. Now for my problem.

Against competent players &/or multiples of uncompetent players, it just kills WAAAAAY too slowly. The concept of longer drawn out fights sounds great, but it generally just means either I or whoever I’m fighting will eventually get run over by others.

Going back to my DAOC days, the fights were much quicker (win or lose). The challenge was always killing your target before the zerg could react, but the killing power was there if you knew what you were doing.

I really enjoy the class, but the lack of burst is becoming problematic.

I’ve had a 80 warrior for a while but haven’t given it much attention. What are some good builds for the above play style. My main is a bunker Ranger, so I’m looking for a change of pace. Thx

I roam on my ranger, but the setup I run isn’t suitable for large scale fighting. Looking for another class to play when I want to participate in Zerg vs Zerg fighting. Thoughts?

I should mention that I’m looking for either good aoe or good spike single target to drop lower health enemies quickly. Get in get out.

So are you still liking this direction for your ranger? How do you think it compares to Xorus’s build, Nerva’s build, a trap build or the catmaster build for solo roaming in wvw? Gear costs so much, I don’t want to make a mistake on the direction I go. Thx for your help on the boards. I know I’m not alone in appreciation.

Engi by far, they are the best class because they are prepared for every situation, and is one of the strongest in 1 v1.

Do they have the needed mobility?

Other than a Thief. My first 80 was a Thief, and I’ve never really enjoyed it much.

I prefer to play solo while picking off stragglers & reinforcements to the Zerg. I currently play a Ranger, and while I’ve enjoyed it, lately it seems that no one wants to stick around and fight. Most people seem more interested in just getting back to the safety of numbers & tagging enemies, and I just doing have enough killing power to stop them.

So I’m looking for a class that can drop people before they can get back to their safety bkittenies. I’d also prefer to be a little bit tanky, as I’m often in outnumbered fights. Of course, mobility is important to be able to avoid the larger groups.

I think it’s the speed that’s key cause you gotta get it done before the cavalry arrives.

Np, sleep=good. He wasn’t bunker build, and a large part of his strategy was lining up the guards for piercing arrows. He has zero in BM, and his pet was not the main source of his damage. I’m guessing your approach would look very diff, so it would still be interesting to see at some point.

I made a Sylvari. Recently got it to lvl 80 and have partially completed Exotic gear. Now I understand that Pain Inverter is one of our best abilities and it’s exclusive to Osuras. If money is no object, as I could craft an Osura to 80 in a few hours, so I’m only out a few gold, should I remake my Ranger now before I invest more in an inferior race? Or is PI not that big a deal?

I have a lvl 80 toon that is in full exotic gear. I am planning on deleting it for personal reasons, and I’d like to get as much out of the gear as possible. Would you simply salvage it using Black Lion Salvage kits? Or maybe something else I hadn’t considered?

Also, I have about 130k Karma. What should I buy with that to get the most out of it?

Since gear isn’t normalized like it is in sPvP, will I be kittened if I’m unwilling to spend hours farming gear in dungeons?
