I guess I’m in the “older” class being 58, I’ve played computer and console games all of my life starting also with a Commodore 64, currently own a X-box and PS3 my biggest problem is that once I start a game I have to finish it. GW2 is the first MMO I’ve ever played I was tempted to try WoW but the monthly sub kept me away, GW2 fits the type game I like to play after finishing Skyrim on the PS3 I was looking for another time killer and this game with it’s “casual play-style” fits what I want to play, the convenience of being able to play at home and work (yeah I’m one of those lucky ones) helps me overlook some of the flaws in the game.
My biggest fear with GW2 is that I’ll grow tired of it long before the end game aspect becomes apparent but since it’s only a year old and I’ve only played for 10 months I’ve managed to log over 2500+ hours, 5k AP and moved 8 toons to level 80 I can say I’m still enjoying the game even though I’ve only ever ran one dungeon and spent a very limited amount of time in WvW, for me there is still plenty to do and the bi-weekly content keeps me coming back. I do belong to a guild but their mostly younger folks who start playing later in the evening about the time I’m ready to log off, still a great bunch of folks always will to help. I’d have to say that the aspect of MMO’s in general and the friendships of guildies is a big draw to me never having experienced other players before…it’s nice! I’ll also say that the server I’m on (TC) has some of the nicest people always being polite and helpful.
JMHO
Funny…I’ve been running my Necro all over Orr for the last week or so hitting every node I see never been accused of being a bot and also never asked if I was one, although running my warrior one day someone in map chat said they thought I was a bot, when I asked if they were referring to me someone else chimed in saying that was a very intelligent bot, I took that as a complement and smiled going about my way harvesting nodes.
Can’t speak for others….but, I started a one man guild a week or so ago for the extra storage space, it’s kinda pricey to get started with just one toon earning influence so I had to spend a little gold buying drinks to gain enough influence to get the upgrades rolling (takes lots of build time), the extra storage space will be nice and the ability to drop a boost banner at events is a benefit I hadn’t even considered.
1704 hours 58 min over the past 6 months…. and 5 level 80’s, three other toons in the 35-45 range, but I’m just a casual player IMHO.
Almost every action in-game you are paid one way or another, just killing mobs and selling the dragon chests can net you at least 1 gold a day (providing you can play a few hours), if you need more run the meta events and sell or salvage the rares, ectos are selling well on the TP.
You can make 1G in 30 mins running cof!
I know….but some folks can’t get in a group or they are not skilled enough to run dungons, it takes very little skill to kill mobs in PvE as long as you stay in zones your leveled for or below, it takes longer but the Op was asking for options.
Just giving my 2 coppers worth.. lol
