I agree EotM is a great map, and regardless of Anets intentions of how it was suppose to be used/utilized players will always find the path of least resistance to rewards, I really don’t think anyone at Anet thought EotM would turn out to be what it has become or that their intent was for the map to be a 24/7 karma-train but it happens in all areas be it mob or champ farming in PvE players are gonna find the path of least resistance to easy rewards.
I’ll also say that what happens in EotM is in a lot of cases dependent on the commander at the moment, I’ve been playing EotM waiting for the new season to start and we have had some great battles, some commanders look for fights and others avoid them, some commanders even ask what the zerg wants to do be it k-train, defend, or battle….when you’re leading sheep sometimes you have to give them the direction they need to follow.
EotM has a ton of potential for a whole lot more than 24/7 K-Train but if that’s how the players devour the content that’s all it will ever be.
It takes time and you have to be willing to die which is no big deal, it took me a month or more to get all the POI’s, vistas, and skill points, some with zergs some solo or with one or two other players in the area, funny thing is that I had played very little WvW before wanting to get map completion on my main, I got the completion and have never left because it’s really a lot of fun…
I think the last reset was when we got accountbound WxP, I think that was back in April? prior to that all WxP was basically soulbound to each character or each had his/her own. IMHO best place to start is in the damage to guards, then damage from guards, then in supply, then some from of siege mastery like flame rams or arrow carts.
170+ bronze invader I think, so far one ascended drop a few weeks ago in EotM, a ring I actually could use on one of my toons…surprising to say the least.
You’re right a phone company isn’t a great comparison. Because a phone company doesn’t tell people it will provide a service that it can’t. And for some reason if it does make a promise it can’t deliver on it’s going to be held accountable by regulators and customers. But a gaming company has no such leash to keep it in check. They can essentially say “Too bad this is what we’re giving you now. Deal with it”
Have you ever had to deal with ATT?
Or Comcast?
Just ugh. Held accountable my kitten …Poor service isn’t the same as violating their agreement with the customer. I can guarantee that no telco guarantees any level of service. If they did regulators would be all over them. That’s why you they only promise “best effort” and don’t guarantee service. If your comcast internet is down for a week guess what? They didn’t guarantee you any level of availability. And if they want to charge you for the full month they can. Because you signed a contract saying you agreed to that. More often than not they’re going to give you a credit for the time it wasn’t available. They don’t have to, but as long as the problem was caused on their end they will most likely make the offer.
LOL…. your right, in that light all Anet would be required in the telco world is to offer the game on some server how you get there is up to you, can’t connect not their problem, connection laggy not their problem, hardware not compatible not their problem, server down for maintenance not their problem, and on and on.
Compared to the telco world just look what GW2 gives you in service and updates all for the entry price, no monthly subs, but you know some folks still kitten whine.
My dad had a saying “Some people would kitten if they were hung with a new rope”
We also got a new trait system, some items that were soul bound are now account bound, some weapons now allow you to add a second sigil, if you play WvW you now have account bound WxP along with a new area EotM (Edge Of The Mists) which is a 24-7 karma train of flipping objectives and can be a fun distraction.
There’s more I’m sure…. just jump in you’ll be fine.
I think everyone who wants a legendary should have one, I don’t really want one but would be very happy to sell you all the crafting materials you need to help you with that mat grind.
I have no problem rez’in downed or dead players as long as they’re not in the middle of a massive AOE field, in WvW it’s a necessary evil to try to keep as many players upright and fighting as possible and I carry it over to PvE if I can, to me if I was downed I’d like to be rezed so it’s a do unto others kinda’ thing to me.
Not everyone as the ability to stay alive in battle be it lag, poor skillsets, or just being a squishy build, I can’t count the number of times in WvW playing my ranger I’ve been downed/killed and watch the bags pile up at my feet just hoping someone will be kind enough to rez me when they get time so I can grab my loot!
In EotM I use to after reset head to our keep to rebuild siege just in case someone wanted to defend the place, I got tired of it rather quickly between the rants of wasting supply (like the opposition is just gonna leave it and not drain when capped) to the lack of willing people to even try to defend, there’s little point to even try.
I’m not kitten’d off about it because running with the train has it’s advantages even if your just looking to kill time, we’ve had some pretty epic battles in the last week or so and the opposition has chosen to send a few players over to our server to troll with ballista and stimulating chat, good thing most of us are thick skinned and find humor in it, regardless of their attempts we still got our supplies, capped our objectives, and got quite a few bags in the process.
I don’t see EotM ever being much more than a K-Train which is fine with me, but as soon as the new season starts I’ll go back to EB.
2-8g per day just depends, I had a goal of 1000g in my bank and it took me almost 8 months to achieve my goal even while starting my personal guild and buying influence, now-a-days I just casually play whatever I want (mostly WvW) I stay around 1020-1050g in the bank and want for nothing I can’t buy with in-game gold I’ve earned, of course I don’t have a Legendary and very little Ascended items other than trinkets but I seem to be able to play any content I want without the high dollar items.
On that note and off topic I did get my first Ascended drop (ring) over the weekend in EotM, it was quite a shock, and I’d guess that was all of my good luck being used up for the rest of the time playing GW2, maybe the RNG gods had fathers day off?
“No you should not. I dislike what the player base for this game has become. People want to do good at the game without putting in any effort at it. "
LOL… to me a percentage of the game’s players mimics society as a whole now-a-days and this comment above covers way more about life than the small realm of GW2. It’s the" I want it all right now "without effort or responsibility that we see in every facet of our daily lives spilling over into the game. These types of players have no interest in learning how to correctly or successfully play the game but endlessly whine about how it’s not fair they don’t have BIS gear or for that matter know how to use anything effectively in game.
I do agree Anet could do more to help teach players the proper dynamics but like most everyone else if I need to improve my toon or playstyle I make a trip to youtube and watch the masters of different professions explain the aspects of GW2 and learn by example then try to implement what I learn in game. Frankly Anet could give us a basic direction but for very precise info other players who have mastered the profession/build/etc to me are a much better source to draw from but it does take a little effort like most worthwhile things in life.
LOL…. Just turned 58, glad to see I’m not the only oldie.
I still feel pressured to do daily for the laurels. AP doesnt matter to me.
This ^^^^^^^^
Laurels are a hard commodity to acquire.
BTW…anyone think that they might institute a Weekly Achievement?
So I just logged in to check mine….. here’s my break down after a year and a half of playing 3341 hrs, 488 days, total AP 7003, Permanent 3171, Daily 3148, Monthly 684, and I religiously do my dailies and monthlies.
I have a log way to go to hit that cap….years!
With the advent of Asura gates the need for personal mounts was removed freeing all animals from the drudgery of hauling their masters around, only the lowly Dolyaks still remain in service today carrying supplies between outposts and trade centers. But rest assured that the keen minds of the Asura will not rest until even the lowly Dolyaks task is replaced with modern technology and they too are free of the bounds of slavery.
So you see…..NO MOUNTS!
You do realize he’s earned more than enough with their trading post shenanigans, don’t you?
Every time you have to pay again if you want the same skin applied twice.
Every time you have to pay again if you want to have the same gathering tool, town clothes, toys or any other account-wide item in more than one character without endlessly juggling the stuff in the bank.
Every time you have to pay again to to go back to a hairstyle you got before with a makeover or hairstyle kit.
Every time you have to pay again if a character that had all bag slots unlocked gets deleted (the reason for deletion is irrelevant), because the extra slots are saved to the character and not the character slot or the account, so they are lost when the character is deleted instead being recovered on character deletion or stored in the slot itself…The guy has a 4D printer and makes the stuff for almost nothing out of nail clippings and glittering dust that is paid with less than 0.0001% of the profit from taxes in the trading post, then tells you it’s made by artisans or some nonsense like that.
He may say whatever he wants, but I know the smell of infinitely generated items.
Whatever he gives back, it won’t be close to an infinitesimal fraction of what he’s have been scamming you like fools.
He’s sitting in a pile of money, and looking forward to plants to make even more money, he’s just investing it in turning you against the council, and specially Kiel. And you are falling for it.
Wait…What? so your saying Evon is the one that’s skimming our TP profits not Anet, I knew I didn’t like that Charr he’s got shifty eyes!
Exotics are easy…. I have 8 lvl 80 toons all of them in mix n’ match temple armor bought with karma (and yes some were outfitted before the big karma nerf), exotic weapons are better bought off the TP or WvW vender in my opinion it could take a long time to get the drop you need, but there’s really no reason to run around in masterwork armors once you hit 80, you should have either the gold, badges, or karma to equip your toon.
I’m also very happy with the change even though I do sell unidentified dyes and wish they hadn’t nerfed the drops, but oh well, it’s a QOL improvement and maybe the first step towards a true locker system for our armors and weapons down the road, I really see nothing negative in the feature patch including the traits which I feel is much needed.
It just goes to prove the old adage that you can’t please everyone all the time.
WHY oh why, did I not buy the Mad King costume? Now I have to wait till Halloween to come around again to have that fiery pumpkin head on my warrior! Live and learn…. ;(
I do agree, hope people who left early still got the reward chest?
A couple variations…..
1. Skin Bank, basically the ability to unlock, house, and use on any toon once purchased or awarded, really just a expansion of the current system in the achievement tab to cover all skins. (sames as the OP is suggesting)
2. Build templates, along with traits include weapons and armors that can be combined and saved then implemented at the click of a mouse, of course not while in combat.
3. Weekly achievements, just like the daily or monthly.
4. Account bound dyes, instead of soul bound.
5. Account bound WxP, yes I know it’s coming soon.
6. Broader use of weapons for each class, there’s really is no reason a Ranger can’t use a rifle, or a Warrior can’t use a long bow.
7. Open new areas of the map, hopefully this year we will see a new zone with new DE’s, POI’s, JP’s, and Meta Events/Champs.
8. Solo-able dungeon paths, at least the story mode paths.
9. UI rework to allow custom configuration and the ability to totally turn it off if desired.
10. Dynamically change PS so it evolves with LS content, and increase the rewards for completing the PS.
“2.) Lions Arch, I would seriously like it rebuilt already, I don’t want to throw insults directly at the devs, but I think the actual destruction of Lions Arch was a stupid move, for Story Wise I feel it should have been made instanced.”
—
It’s your opinion that it was stupid…
Actually it was a good move by Anet IMHO, would you have been happier if it was another city? say Divinity’s Reach? destroying LA had a devastating effect not only on the city itself but a portion of the playerbase that liked to congregate there (of course those folks just stand around at Vigils Keep qq’ing demanding for LA to be rebuilt like a bunch of whiny little kids) The topic has been discussed both before it happen and after by just about everyone who frequents the forums so basically it’s been beaten to death as a topic.
For the living world concept to gain any type of merit it has to change the game world, and it really can’t be instanced, I’d agree that some of the battles are better instanced but as a whole the LW content really can’t be if it is truly going to work the way the developers have stated their intent for it to work, how believable would it be to be in a instance for the knight battles only to leave that instance and have LA look like it wasn’t touched?
It’s starting to appear like the folks calling for it to be “put back to normal…right now!” are just qq’n because they lost their favorite spot to stand around and socialize with others, it wasn’t game breaking to destroy LA, it was in fact a very good idea and the longer it takes to rebuild the more it makes the LS believable as a evolving story that dynamically effects the world of Tyria.
Like others have stated I hope LA never returns exactly to the place it was before the attack, yea I’d like all the convenience items returned at some point, but not over night, I’m fine if it’s fall of ’14 before LA returns new and improved.
And of course this is JMHO
Go get yourself a personal guild bank (everyone should have one, anyway) and use that as personal storage for your gold.
I did this, but unfortunately each panel has a maximum carriage space of 1000g. It’s at the point where I might start getting multiple banks just to carry it all. The most important cut-off for me is that I need to not carry enough gold at any given time to accidentally outright buy a legendary.
LOL….yeah I know the feeling, but hey you could always give that excess gold to charity, or for a small fee I could let you deposit it in my guild bank, promise I won’t touch it.
We use to have a guy in our guild that on the weekends ran a trivia contest in guild chat giving 1 gold to the winner with the correct answer, it was a lot of fun and at a time when most of us thought 1 gold was a lot on money….today you can get 1 gold by being AFK.
Actually I never liked having money stored in my bank, it was inconvenient while leveling a alt if you need to buy something having to find a bank or crafting station to access your bank to fund the alt, the wallet was really a QOL item that makes everything easier, I can’t say it’s ever really caused any problems because I can see all the gold I have, if anything it makes me spend less.
I’m not sure it would be a valuable use of Dev time, or amenable to everyone, to change the way Gold is stored to satisfy your pet peeve. Some suggestions have been offered. If you find none of them satisfactory, maybe…if the majority of the player-base calls for it…some day Gold storage will be changed, again. =)
If I go to buy an item and the game has a hiccup, lags, and I accidentally buy it twice? Let’s say it was Vision of the Mists I accidentally purchased twice… That’s a “pet peeve” to you? Really? Cause if I am holding 800 gold on my person, THAT not-so-happy accident is VERY likely to occur. That doesn’t fall under the definition of “pet peeve” to me… That falls under the definition of “Oh ****!!!” in my book.
A quick report to support and a look at their logs should get you your money back, if the game had a hiccup that caused a problem like that.
Personal Guild bank.
Okay, school me here… I have a guild, so are you meaning for me to make up a second guild where as I am it’s only member, in which I, once again, devote time and effort into instating another guild bank that would be where I keep my money?
YES! Personal Guild, your the only member and have total control no other members, and yes it will cost you either more time or more gold to unlock at least 2 banking levels, but it’s safe and secure as long as you keep the guild and don’t change servers.
Ideally anything of value should be in the guilds treasure trove or deep cave with access only by the guild leader or higher ranking officers, the guild bank should be used for items that guildies want to trade with each other, last guild I was in any member could deposit items in the treasure trove but only the officers could remove the items and it worked out very well, most of the stuff in the general bank area was items that none of us wanted but helped out new members to the guild/game like 8/10 slot bags, low level food and potions, minor sigils, runes, stuff that might help a level an alt also.
Kitten NO!
I’m on my third wife in RL, last thing I need is a in game wife to follow me around and tell me how I’m not playing the game correctly!
Go get yourself a personal guild bank (everyone should have one, anyway) and use that as personal storage for your gold.
This ^^^^^^^^^^^
Best idea ever, and if you don’t mind buying or earning a little influence you can even drop banners for yourself and friends/group.
I’ve been playing the content for a week now, got 3 achievements the first day, got a few the next couple days later, finally hit the 15 on Saturday, of course I didn’t get the “In Tune” or the ‘Six Min" achievements, I’ve been in overflow every day and have had good and bad groups but have managed to do the knights and hologram successfully 4 times in the last week.
I’ve probably ran the knight event 40 times in the last 7 days, after the patches it’s been unsuccessful almost every time but even if we have managed to get past the knights we fail on the hologram… I can remember 1 time after I got the 15 achievements that we have cleared both knights and hologram.
Funny thing is I got the spider just yesterday while hunting heirlooms and noticed a group getting ready to do the event, I waited with them till their group filled out and in just a few minuets we were finished, it was really easy with a group of people who understood to break the cocoons and keep the spider away from them.
I’m not sure if thats fair, I like to hit the content as soon as it’s released and I know the first few days it was easier to kill the knights, but apparently it wasn’t working as Anet intended so they patched it, yeah I got a few achievements in that time frame but got the bulk after, given the type of content they are releasing I’m not sure there is a way to keep from having this issue, of course scaling is a whole different matter and should have been fixed before the content was released.
For the dodging, it is tricky sometimes. Im not a good dodger, so I set out to train. how hard could it be?
As you have figured out dodging is a art and requires practice, lots of variables from reflexes, timing, keyboard, and of course lag, I play on two very different computers one uses a cheap keyboard that the “S” is very worn (at work), the other uses a game pad (at home) that is very quick to respond, people who I’ve played with regularly know from my success at dodging which machine I’m on. The work computer is so slow using a DSL connection and wore out keyboard I fail to dodge often and to be successful on that machine I have to really anticipate the battle, at home it’s much easier because of a quicker broadband connection, a much faster computer with killer video, and a game pad that is very quick and positive.
I know the topic is rezing players but to me the major cause of downed players is their inability to dodge or anticipate when to dodge an attack, it’s such a important element to battle in GW2 and lots of environmental elements both inside and outside the game have a effect on successful dodging.
LOL the face only a mother could love…..my necro!
But does anyone know this girl in the second pic?
The merchant in the order camps where you turn in the found belongings has the bulk food stuff, but I don’t remember if it’s a trade for the belongings or for coppers.
For some unknown reason I’m compelled every day after supper to do my dailies, I only do the minimum to get the rewards and I do pick and choose the easiest ones for me depending on the area and content, might take 30 min at the most then I move on to something more interesting, but I have to do them every day if for no other reason then to get laurals…..doing every one just for the AP is kinda’ OCD isn’kitten
I’m kinda’ mixed about it, in some cases they should be left to WP back, but in others it’s not that big of a deal to get them back in the fight, I’ve seen a lot of up-scaled go down rather quickly in the current events, maybe they are new players who don’t know how to dodge or preoccupied by RL. I think there is a case for both rezing and not rezing the dead, downed players if your close should always be brought back, I’ve been in a lot of the events where it was just 3 or 4 players doing a champ event and if a couple are inexperienced or highly up-scaled you spend a lot of your time bringing them back around, but then again I couldn’t have completed the event on my own without them either….it kind of funny to be in battle with a few others and look around a few minuets into it and 2 or 3 are already in a downed state I try to take the heat off of them at least long enough for them to rez themselves back from a downed state, if they die and a WP is close I’m not gonna rez them, but if I need the help to finish off the champ well I’ll spend the time to dodge and rez them back into the fight.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

The average score so far seems to be 6.
If a game got 60/100 on metacritic it would be seen as quite the failure, I would not consider this a good result for Arena Net.
However its interesting to see the mix of views when considering LS S1 overall.. I would be inclined to agree with many of those who have posted here.. in saying LS s1 overall has been an up and down ride with some decent patches (Frost & Flame), Atherblade Dungeon and even some of the story had some interesting hero/villain plot but too often things were just too buggy, too laggy and to easy to farm or forget..
I’m coming to the conclusion that some of the buggy and laggness is caused by the LS updates, the constant adding, patching, and removing content can’t be a good thing for the system files, yeah they seem to work out bugs after a couple hot patches, but the underlying damage might just be plastered over by the patch and then the content is removed leaving what? It is a novel idea but in practicality it might be more harmful to the game code then a full on expansion.
Of course this is JMHO

Solid C, some of the story/battles have been a lot of fun, others were not so much, but for a non-sub MMO IMHO it was ok, a few of the events I skipped altogether others I couldn’t get enough of, every one that I liked I got the meta achievements, the ones that I found boring I went and did other things. If I was paying a sub I’d probably be kittened off about some of the events, but then again I’m not so as far as free content it was about average.
The end of season 1 does give me hope that Anet is learning from their mistakes and will fix some of the issues like scaling, for now I’ll just go back to WvW and wait for account-wide WxP.
They are fine just the way they are IMHO, but we do need weekly achievements added!
Can anybody explain to me why some people have 2 exact same classes and why both at lvl 80? What the heck is the point of having two classes that are the same…?
Different builds (weapons/traits), for me anyways.
second warrior was something as a joke and meant as temp, but I really liked Asuran greatsword looks/animations.
This exactly why I’m considering another warrior….
1. Asura Elementalist
2. Sylvari Necromancer
3. Asura Thief
4. Human Ranger
5. Human Guardian
6. Charr Engeneer
7. Norm Warrior
8. Human Mesmer
All Lvl 80’s ….. all in at least full exotics, few ascended trinkets here and there, nothing legendary.
It doesn’t feel strategic, it just feels like they are saying “kitten off” to condition builds for 50% of the fight. Do they think we have builds that swap between direct damage and condition damage in the same build?
We could have different builds that we could swap between if they would give us a template system, it makes little sense to reconfigure your build to suit a specific mob or battle only to have to reconfigure it to be viable in the rest of the world for your playstyle. The only thing that makes sense is if they expect you to bring a toon that is capable direct damage to the fight which I guess is ok if you have more than one toon.
Pretty straight forward question lol
We shall know for sure in a few short hours…..other than waiting for the patch no one but Anet knows.

I honestly do not know why something like that can happened, i mean what am i suppose to tell my friends that wana buy this game? “Well they made a change recently and now you gotta spend gold or money or travel to other cities wait all the loading screens spend report money for something that was there for free, and no i have no idea why they did that, well ok for the money”
Here’s what you tell your friends who might want to buy GW2
" Man…they did something really cool and totally unexpected, they destroyed the main gathering hub for players, yea it was epic, no other game would have the kittens to do that! and the update they left us with is totally cool, we get to fight our way into the city, beat back the hordes of baddies, save the citizens from certain death, it is truly totally rad! and the loot! man the loot is just plain awesome!
Yeah they did destroy my favorite place to stand around, chat and go afk, but it was totally worth it!"
As you see it’s all in the delivery.
I’ve succeeded in about 10 LA events and got 2 endless mystery quaggan tonics, 1 blue endless quaggan tonic and… a whole bunch of bleep.
It’s more profitable to farm for ToKs.
Same here….sold both on the TP for instant gold!
On TC last night in overflow we hit it twice before I had to log off, I’m seeing many more people trying to save citizens than ever before, not that folks are not zerging but more and more are concentrating on saving people in LA.
If you were in an Overflow you weren’t in TC. You were in an Overflow.
Thank you Sir, my home server is TC so I just assumed that the overflow was also there, so in overflow you are on a separate server to just house overflows? I’m not real clear on how that works.
Overflow servers house the spill-over players from many different servers. There are no dedicated overflow servers for each main server. If you’re in an Overflow, you could be playing with players from any number of servers.
Thanks guys that helps….
And shutting it down prevented the people from running into the Dolyak convoy as they rushed through, thus preventing more injuries. Players must have equipment in order to fight back. Without it, we’d have no chance. As expected of a great leader like Evon to always be one step ahead of the enemy. I wouldn’t have been strong enough to make that same decision myself.
Yeah, Evon took care of his wares but left his employees in the TP to die, I’ve personally saved his sales staff many many times since the invasion started, they are all cowering in the corners of the TP defenseless he didn’t even leave them a weapon to fight with..
