A sample size of 20 is certainly not enough data to be definitively stating anything.

Are you asking for them or are you saying you know someone who got the 10L for doing theirs already.

Yeah, given the multiple confirmations pre-patch that Jan’s monthly would not reward laurels, and no evidence of any other threads besides this one on the topic, I’m now reasonably certain that the OP simply never read the multiple dev posts on the topic.

Keep calm and carry on.

Really, the Jan monthly seriously awarded Laurels?

I specifically completed my monthly after reading that Colin Johanson post, safe in the knowledge that I wouldn’t get screwed by doing so.

That’s pretty messed up.

EDIT: Wait, just to clarify. OP and others, do you have confirmed reports from players who did receive laurels for completing the monthly post-patch? Or did you speculate that by having already completed the monthly, you’d missed out?

I don’t know what to tell you on this one. They very clearly announced that the keys weren’t coming back well before she was re-implemented. They also made it abundantly clear that Lyns has an expiration date. Given that information, why would you expect that she’d carry some kind of new item?

While I’m certainly not happy about ANet’s decision to remove Lyns from the game, I don’t feel scammed just because they put in some new type of gathering tools. I for one don’t want to spend a week’s worth of laurels on gathering tools when I could be building up towards an amulet.

TL;DR: ANet did exactly what they said they were going to do on this one. I don’t see a problem here.

This. Apart from stability+quickness stomping which you’re still in harms way, Invis stomping you cannot be targetted. There has to be a drawn back from invis stomping, but there is not.

Uh, there is quite a large draw back. Unlike warriors and elementalists who can pop stability+invuln and finish with no risk to themselves, thieves, while untargetable, can still be hit and killed with AoEs. Since the majority of a thief’s survivability is attained through high mobility and dodging, the only line of defense they have when finishing is stealth.

Seriously, just drop AoEs on downed friendlies. You’ll get more thief kills than you would believe.

FOTM means you actually were somewhat decent at the game, and had to work as a team through them.

Sorry not everyone wants to dungeon grind their lives away. Fractals IMO are boring, simplistic and unimaginative, while slightly better then the dungeons that launched with GW2 they are still amongst the worst offerings by an MMO.
Having alternate paths to gear should have existed from the start, not rolled out piece meal. WvW players are still waiting …

Exactly. At the start, ANet was loud in proclaiming that GW2 would let players play how they want. The fact that dungeons were the only source of the top tier of gear for three months is exceptional on that basis alone.

More importantly, this hasn’t made ascended back items any less of a prestige symbol or an indicator of dedication. Ascended rings were never an indicator of skill – they merely indicated that a player was willing to grind the same dungeon for 10 days. How is completing dailies different?

Good god people need to stop complaining. Dailies are NOT required. If you want to do them, then go out and do it! God forbid you have to dodge 15 times or shoot threw a combo field 10 times. It’s seriously not that difficult, and adds some variety to the dailies.

EDIT: And daily healer? Come on people, that is a given. I easily revive at least 10 people a day already. See someone downed? Revive them. It’s a win-win situation.

Dailies became required when max-quality gear was attached to them, which by my reckoning was a few hours ago.

Sounds like someone doesn’t want their thief to get less OP lol.
Finishing someone is a aggressive act and should be treated like all of the other aggressive skills and cause the thief to DE cloak.

It’s one thing I love about my thief but it needs to be fixed.

Also I don’t believe you can finish some one in mist form.

Yes, because my opinion is different from yours I clearly must have a hidden motive.

If you want to put performing a finishing move on the same basis as utilizing an aggressive skill – which is a completely valid point – then executing a finisher should cause the thief to de-stealth upon completion of the finisher, which is the same way all attacks work when stealthed. If a thief uses an attack while stealthed which fails to hit an enemy, the thief remains stealthed.

You can finish enemies while in mist form. And several classes have gimmicks equally if not more effective for completing finishers than stealth. And thieves aren’t the only class with access to stealth.

When starting a finisher, all buffs should be removed…ALL of them. Protection/regen/stability/retaliation/quickness/haste/shrink potion/stealth/etc…

Makes it fair for everyone then and no more complaining about it.

Incorrect. This approach favors heavy armor classes over medium armor classes, and mediums over lights. As it stands currently, every class has some tactic or skill available to give themselves an advantage when finishing, and those are reasonably balanced against one another such that no class has a substantial advantage.

Thieves get targeted in the issue of finishers simply because within the thief class, the vast majority of players utilize stealth to at least some extent. The silly thing is that it is astoundingly easy to prevent thieves from stealth-finishing – fire off AoEs and non-targetted CCs. Nobody makes any noise about warriors or elementalists using their invulnerability skills to finish, and you can’t even counter those.

Great. So you guys punish the more casual among us who don’t have 5+ 80s farming that node every day. And you now reward those people with multiple 80s who farmed it like mad.

Speaking as someone who is not in favor of removing the ori node, I’m confused as to how removing it somehow “rewards” those people who farmed it like mad. Did you expect ANet to remove all of the ori from our banks?

Removing the node rewards nobody, regardless of any past interactions with it.

People honestly can’t argue that having a rich ori node that respawns every 24 hours in the exact same place every single day was a good idea.

I’m not innocent, I park my 80’s there and do it every day. Every time I log in there are 5-10 people there. I know they are only there for the ore and will likely just log off after they collect it to switch characters. That kind of farming is just not necessary.

Now if they want to have a rich ori node that MOVES, fine. Makes it a little more interesting. But to have in the same place was just a bad idea from the beginning.

I have to agree, being someone guilty of having spare 80s parked at the node, that it was a pretty bad idea to put a rich vein there. It’s just too tempting a target for farming.

But dumbing it down to a normal ori node feels like overkill. The rich node is literally the only reason I go to Southsun Cove. The same is true of my entire guild.

Putting Karka Shells and Passion Fruit into Infusion recipes was at least another attempt to give the zone a purpose, but it felt forced (Southsun-specific mats used in items only obtained through and primarily used in Fractals?), and was pretty much irrelevant anyway. Who seriously wants to farm 250 Karka Shells for a +5 stat increase?

I have to agree with the wookie on this one, a mobile rich node would at least let Southsun retain what little relevance it has while simultaneously cutting down on lazy farming immensely.

In that case, starting to perform a finisher should drop stealth from Mesmers (who can also stealth) as well as drop Endure Pain off of warriors, Mist Form and Obsidian Flesh from elementalists, and remove Aegis, Stability, Protection, Retaliation, and Regeneration from guardians.

Title says it all. Last few patches have had changes not
shown in the patch notes, and it seems to be a normal
occurrence.

Can we get every change detailed in the patch notes?

So, the patch notes should say things like:

‘Changed shade of tunics from #FF000 hex to #FF001 hex’
‘Turned the staff models 90 degrees to correct clipping issues’
‘Changed network architecture to solve issues with client-server packet transfer’.
‘Replaced hard-drives on three server clusters’.
‘Ran anti-virus and defrag on server systems’.

Why would we need to know all of this stuff, again?

Straw man argument, fails every time.

Nobody’s asking for technical minutiae. What we’re asking for is a heads-up on any change made.

‘Changed shade of tunics from #FF000 hex to #FF001 hex’

‘Changed shade of tunics.’ would suffice. Also, ANet isn’t wasting man-hours on changing art assets’ colors by imperceptible amounts, so this one is irrelevant and silly.

‘Turned the staff models 90 degrees to correct clipping issues’

That looks like a perfectly ordinary patch note item to me.

‘Changed network architecture to solve issues with client-server packet transfer’.
‘Replaced hard-drives on three server clusters’.
‘Ran anti-virus and defrag on server systems’.

Changes performed solely server-side are not included in client updates, so these are pointless things to bring up in this discussion. We obviously don’t need to know specific details about routine server maintenance.

In the case of client updates which solely reflect a new executable with no changes – as is the case with the routine miniscule updates – patch notes need only indicate that no changes were made.

Begining of december price was peaking close to 37s after that supply increased dramatically and price dropped to low as 25s and would have continued to drop w/o bans, after bans supply has steadily dropped to pre exploit lvl and so has price returned too, so how about you actually look at the big picture instead of pulling data out of your …

The price dropped dramatically, than evened out at a higher level before the bans. The bans did not occur on 17 Dec, the lowest point in ecto price for the month of December. At the date on which the bans occurred, the supply drops somewhat but not dramatically – if the majority of ecto on the market were connected to the banned accounts, you’d see a sheer cliff in supply rather than a slow taper. So how about you actually conduct analysis instead of pulling garbage out of your …

Second, just citing inflation ignores a critical factor – demand for ectos has been measurably increased since the introduction of FotM and several key recipes which require large amounts of ecto, from 50 to full stacks. The introduction of more and more ecto-guzzling recipes without a corresponding increase in potential sources of ecto (indeed, a decrease due to certain changes made to craftable rare/exotic recipes not related to the snowflake exploit) will result in continuing increase in demand.

There is potential source, its called salvaging, demand of ectos just makes it more or less profitable.

I guess you just have a reading comprehension problem? I’m obviously aware of the only way to obtain ectoplasm; the fact that salvaging is the only means to acquire it is exactly the problem.

Increased demand (more recipes requiring ecto, most of them requiring full stacks) with no increase in supply (salvaging is still the only source of ecto and salvage rates have never been increased to counteract the vast amounts of new ecto needed) (additionally, it’s technically a decrease in supply due to bot bans) means prices will continue to climb until either A. player demand for ecto drops off – which would mean that the ecto-consuming Ascended recipes either are removed or become irrelevant – or B. ecto supply is increased somehow – which would necessitate a way to obtain ecto outside of salvaging, an increase of ecto obtained per salvage operation, or an increase in drop rates of ecto-yielding items.

Prices are just climbing to normal lvl(+inflation) after decembers momentary huge increase due snowflake exploit u can see it by checking sales from longer period of time.

First, if you look at the big picture you’ll find that during the snowflake exploitation period, the price of ecto was largely unaffected – sell volume increased massively but prices remained essentially constant. While the influx of ecto almost certainly helped to keep the price stable for a while, it did not cause a significant decrease, meaning that we can’t be “returning” to the norm.

In other words, ANet needs to either admit that they fully intend for ectos to become comparable in value to the average lodestone, or dramatically increase ecto supply to correspond with the dramatically increased demand.

I tried to dig up an old post from October where someone mentioned the problem of buy orders listed below the minimum sell value, preventing sale on a number of items. In it, an ANet rep confirmed that while they had “fixed a bug” allowing such buy orders to be placed, they had not yet removed all invalid buy orders from the TP.

That was October, and they still haven’t gotten around to it. At this point it seems like the most straightforward solution is a 30-day expiry date on TP orders, buy or sell. Obviously ANet doesn’t have either the manpower, inclination, or both to keep the TP maintained manually.

If you’re a Virtue based Guardian though it’s huge and one of the most powerful elites in the game since it scales dramatically and is effected by 5-10 traits.

Which ones?

The only ones I specifically see are Inspired Virtue and Virtue of Retribution, both of which are in the Virtues line. Even by firing all virtues, using Renewed Focus, and firing all again, you’re only getting two stacks of might and a short duration regen and protection. You can easily do better with a little teamwork and some combo fields.

If a virtues-based build makes Renewed Focus viable, that’s excellent, but it doesn’t address the issue that in general it’s still a sub-par elite skill.

Depends on how you trait, but Renewed Focus can give you in addition to 3s immune, Virtues regular effects and Inspired Virtues effects: stability, blinds, blocks, Might, condition removal, stun breakers, and retaliation.

Not to mention from a survivability standpoint if you double up Virtue effects you can achieve (with 30 points into Virtues): 3s of immune, 2 blocks, 10s of Protection/Regeneration, ~4K instant healing, 6 stacks of Might, 6s of stability, 30s of retaliation, and 2 condition removers.

All on a fast cooldown of 60s. Combine with Lyssa runes and it is even more potent.

I still don’t see specific mention of traits. I’m looking at the traits and trying to figure out how you’re coming up with this, and I’m not seeing a way to make it work.

If you’re unwilling to point out specific traits, can you at least indicate which trait lines you’re using?

And I reiterate – elite skills shouldn’t need a specific build to make them viable or comparable to other elite skills.

I think he means that mobs don’t have specific loot tables for them, like a mob in AC exp has the same chances of dropping the same loot from a mob in any other lvl 30 areas. Or any risen in orr has the same chance of dropping the same items as any karka. Every mob has the same chance of dropping almost every item as most share the same loot tables.

In most games including GW1 you could have an item that only a group of mobs would drop, no other mob shared that loot table basically like ascended rings at the moment that they only drop from mobs in FoTM. Everyone else is right thpugh, the game does have loot tables, just not a lot of specific ones, although they do exsist already in the game

Specific loot tables are in place all over the game. Humanoid enemies drop type-specific salvage and loot bags, non-humanoid enemies drop type-specific salvage and fine crafting mats.

Risen and Karka do have different loot tables. The simplest demonstration of this is the fact that Karka do not drop Moldy Bags and Risen do not drop Karka Shells.

What I think the OP is asking for is a dramatic change in the loot tables, with specific regard to gear. Even this is already highly dependent upon loot tables – Tamini weapons drop from Tamini; Glyphic weapons drop from Inquest. This is true across all levels.

The OP specifically mentions Exotics/precursors. Those aren’t likely to be changed due to their significance to the economy.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yes, for three reasons.

One, it’s incredibly easy and doesn’t feel much like a grind.

Two, it’s easy karma. With maximum karma gain, each jug is nearly 8k Karma, which is useful for kitting out newly-80 characters. At those rates, a month’s worth of jugs (not counting the monthly) is a full set of Temple armor.

Three, I’m in an achievement points race with guild members, and dailies are an easy source of them. You’ve got to find meta-game ways to stay entertained, sometimes.

Lodestones from Vendors

Blueshield.6291

Okay, so everyone is aware that lodestone prices are insane right now. 4 gold for a single charged lodestone? 3 for an onyx? 1.5 gold for a destroyer?

You’ve got to be kidding.

I propose that there be some Vendor that offers lodestones, for a REASONABLE price. Say… 1g at most. To make this perfectly clear though, this isn’t about making legendaries EASIER to get, it’s about making legendaries less about the trading post.

Or one better, offer lodestones for Karma. Account bound, of course. A reasonable price would be 5k karma per lodestone. That means someone going for say… Sunrise or The Juggernaut would need 500,000 karma to buy their lodestones. To me, this is much, much more of an achievement than spending insane amounts of cash.

They could even have them available from those new daily reward things.

The overall idea is to provide a way to obtain lodestones that isn’t “Farm CoF/CoE/TA 20 times a day, for a month”

Thoughts?

I agree that there’s something very obviously wrong when a select few items in a category are so vastly out of balance against the others.

ANet for some unfathomable reason made a design choice that one lodestone would be massively over-represented in Legendary construction, therefore it seems obvious that they should have forseen the vastly higher demand for that item.

I’m not sure that the solution here is to make lodestones vendor-purchasable, because doing so implies that ALL lodestones would be vendor-purchasable. This won’t bring charged, onyx, and destroyer lodestone prices into line with the other lodestones, it will simply drop prices across the board.

Any change being made (and I strongly feel that one is needed) should focus specifically on the outliers – charged, onyx, and destroyer – and attempt to equalize lodestone prices across the board. If that means asymmetrically increasing supply, so be it, but I think it would be preferable to both increase supply of all lodestones and add useful recipes for the other lodestones – possibly a transmogrification recipe to turn them into the preferred variety.

There is a very basic loot table atm which is based on lvl only so u wont get potent blood of a lvl 1. my point was to have a better loot table per mob with a smaller lvl band so u would end up with a proper loot table and not random junk, point me to an item u can get only off one lvl 80 mob that no other lvl 80 can drop, champ karka droped a blue helm for me other day if they had a better loot table just asigned to champs it would been more of a chance to get somthing not just a random item ANY lvl 80 can drop

All you’re doing is proving your ignorance about the topic. The loot tables in the game are vastly more advanced than being based only on level. Loot bags are the simplest example I can give you here. Dredge will drop Miner Bags, Risen will drop Moldy Bags. That’s a function of loot tables.

Another example – you said that you killed a karka. Kill enough of them, and you’ll notice something dropping from karka and only karka: Karka Shells. If there weren’t loot tables in place, you’d see Karka Shells drop from any level 80 mob. You don’t. Q.E.D.

Insisting repeatedly that there aren’t loot tables doesn’t somehow make it true. Do some research, you’ll quickly see evidence of tables.

Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Blueshield.6291

You’re fault is that you’re probably comparing aoe skills with single-target skills against single targets. In that situation, of course aoe is going to be weaker: it’s supposed to! But can you honestly tell me that staff’s fields are bad when you’re playing with a party, against a lot of enemies, or the combination of both? No, they are crazy. You basically generate a huge amount of party combo fields, keep entire mobs balled with crowd control, and destroy them with spammable fire fields + meteor shower.

The problem is that while no, the numbers don’t scale 1:1 for AoE hitting 5 targets:Single Target, AoE’s don’t always (or even often) hit 5 targets at once. In a game with no threat mechanic for tanking and no effective way to corral enemies into a contained area (1 weapon-dependent skill aside), more often than not AoEs will not be hitting 5 enemies, and therefore the mathematics assumed in the livechat do not apply.

AoEs are currently weaker across the board than single-target skills, and only become “overpowered” by comparison when a player is hitting the maximum number of targets. That’s a given in WvW because of zerging, but it is certainly not the norm in PvE.

If the planned nerf follows the very specific maths which the devs outlined in the livechat – making AoE damage exactly equal to single target damage, i.e., if a single target skill does 100 damage, an AoE does 20×5 – this is disastrous. AoE will be laughably useless in the majority of PvE content. The only way to offset this would be implementation of a threat mechanic, which would in turn necessitate major reworks to several classes and the introduction of the trinity.

Nickname meaning character name and not account name, right? Then no. There have been a couple threads this past week or two popping up asking if or when this will be implemented. Gaile, among other Anet employees, has stated that though it will be in the game at some point, there is no timeframe for it at this current point.

Hopefully soon though! My newly female (used to be male) elementalist does not enjoy her very male name haha.

I seem to have missed those threads. Do you have a link to somewhere the “no timeframe” comment was posted? That’s pretty alarming, given that immediately after they implemented the makeover kits they strongly implied we could expect character renames soon after.

Renewed Focus: I…really can’t justify this elite skill at all. Maybe some Guardians are making it work for them, but the invulnerability is really just neutral, since you’re stuck in place while casting, and the only effect is to refresh virtue cooldowns? Even if I pop all three virtues at once, then use Renewed Focus, it pales in comparison to the kind of power the tomes bring to the table.

If someone is genuinely impressed by Renewed Focus and what it does for them, I guess that’s great, but I’d be surprised.

I’ve tried very hard to make Renewed Focus worthwhile, and it’s just laughably underpowered for an elite skill.

I constantly find myself comparing it to a warrior’s Endure Pain (which doesn’t technically grant invulnerability, but instead grants immunity to damage – same ballpark). We get 3 seconds of invuln during which we can’t attack or do anything useful. Once complete, our virtues are recharged.

In contrast, warriors get 5! seconds (though the wiki says it’s bugged and only gives 3 – unsure about that) of no damage, which they can increase through a perk (and by the way, they have a second perk to automatically activate the skill at 25% health). They can still move and attack normally, and the skill breaks stun. Oh, and did I mention that this isn’t even an elite skill.

So, as far as I’m concerned, when an elite skill is inferior to a non-elite skill which does the same basic thing, something’s wrong.

loot tables dont exsit in this game when any mob can drop any weapon seen a sreenshot dusk droped of a random lvl 80 mob thats not loot tables thats random.

Exotic armor named after famous characters from Guild Wars can be found as high level loot. thats from wiki on named loot, from that wording it can drop anywere u just need luck. it dont drop from a champ or event it has a chance to ofc but it could also drop of a normal mob on the way to said champ/event.

I’m sorry but you’re just plain wrong on this. If the game didn’t use loot tables, you wouldn’t see things like specific loot bags (i.e., Miner’s Bag) dropping from specific enemy types (i.e., Dredge). Mist Essences would have a chance to drop on any mob in the open world, which they very obviously do not. Loot within FotM would not be dependent upon Fractal Level, which it is.

Your analysis of Dusk is flawed in that you’re examining a sample size of one. Dusk has a vanishingly small chance of being dropped by any level 80 mob – that simply means that it’s present in most/all of the level 80 loot tables.

What you’re suggesting is not the implementation of loot tables. They already exist, whether you like it or not. It sounds like you want the tables to become more specialized, though. Using your example of Dusk, in other words, instead of being a vanishingly small percentage in all of the tables it’s currently in, it would instead be a somewhat higher percentage in a handful of tables – for example, only Risen.

Again, this is not likely to happen. Things that are currently spread across all loot tables – such as Exotic precursors – are implemented thusly for a reason. You’re not supposed to be able to grind for them.

Why are all the active guilds WvW?

Blueshield.6291

WvW is not content-driven gameplay like PvE. There’s only so many times you can run the same 8 dungeons before they lose their entertainment value. Additionally, as others have mentioned, dungeons are limited to 5 players, which makes them a pretty poor content choice for large guilds. Therefore, large and stable guilds with players mostly at endgame will typically be PvP oriented.

Your choice of server has a lot to do with it – Jade Quarry, Sea of Sorrows, Blackgate, Sanctum of Rall… these are typically going to be dominated by WvW players, with less representation for PvE content. I can’t speak for any servers but my own, but Tarnished Coast certainly has plenty of PvE-focused guilds with large populations. Of course, if RPers bother you, TC’s zones are not a place you’ll want to find yourself.

It seems like the real problem with your search is that you’re sampling from a WvW-focused server.

I’m somewhat confused by this suggestion. Loot tables already exist.

They would reduce the amount of RnG in game. and alow ppl to farm materials easier.

No, they wouldn’t. Again, the game already uses loot tables, and people already complain about RnG. Right now what RnG does is determine whether or not you get a drop, and if so, what it is. So, no change here.

Say all humanoid mobs 1-20 can drop jute scapes and another bit of loot/coin instead of random bags (once farmed 50 bags found 4 cotton) any animal with a hide (boars wolfs ect) can be “skinned” for leather with a chance for claws/fangs/blood.

Again, not really a significant change here, unless you’re suggesting a 100% drop rate. Currently humanoid mobs can drop coins, certain bags determined by the mob type, salvage items (such as tattered cloth, metal scrap, etc. (for economic reasons – salvage kits – mobs will never drop crafting materials directly, but they’re already dropping materials indirectly)).

Champ mobs would have a chance of droping 1 item from a set list of say 10, with the set being different per champ. if ppl knew cool items have a chance to drop of a certain boss they will kill/farm it = more ppl in the world.

Big DE event champs would have a unqiue weapon/armor/skin that has a chance to drop from a list of 10-15 items. Maybe even a mini pet or somthing cool like that.

Already implemented to a limited extent. A limited few exotic items are only attainable as drops from specific mobs. Check the wiki for specific information on that. Granted, that’s an uncommon tweak in the loot tables, but I don’t really see it being beneficial to have a specific guaranteed drop for every champion/legendary mob in the game.

Somthing along the lines of boss drops from raids in other games. would help with the anything can drop anything we have atm.

This is the only piece of your post that I can fully agree with. Currently, “raid” style fights (such as against Claw of Jormag) are a fairly substantial time investment compared to most other open-world gameplay aspects, and tend not to reward very well.

I think what you’re proposing is not implementation of loot tables (which we already have) but a system of guaranteed drops. Don’t hold your breath for that ever being the case on trash mobs. ANet has consistently expressed that the game’s market is one of their high priorities, and guaranteed drops would cause extreme and sudden market imbalances due to massively increased supply.

In my experience so far, the best place I’ve found is the Uncategorized Fractal. Excellent source of Powerful Blood, and running fractals in general should net you an average of 1 rare per individual fractal to break down for ecto.

Outside of that, there’s a pretty good swath of geography on the west side of Frostgorge Sound. Everything from drakes and skelks to bears and griffons – at a high enough level – have a chance to drop Powerful Blood.

I’d go with the Fractals, though. Personally, I’ve had much better results there.

This.

Now, if you see someone appear near/on the Rich Ori Node in Southsun, that’s most likely a real player who’s parked an 80 on the node. The difference is that they will move around normally and perform the mining animation the 3.33 times needed to mine the node fully.

What server is everyone being kicked!?

Blueshield.6291

Cross-server dungeoning aside, I don’t think you can attribute the problem to a specific server. As far as I can tell, most situations where players are kicked at the end of a dungeon involve bringing guildmates/friends in at the last moment to earn the dungeon reward. This is not something that would necessarily be linked to/prevalent on certain servers.

Kicks in the middle of a dungeon could have any number of causes. Group rejections based on class seem to occur across the entire community. Neither can be sensibly attributed to specific populations.

I’d just consider yourself lucky not to have encountered these issues and move on, really.

I’d assume they said what they usually say in these situations: “we do not have a way to refund incorrectly obtained items.”

Which is also what they said in connection to an item which is actually bugged, so the mistake wasn’t even on the player’s side.

@blueshield

Newsflash, children go out of their way to annoy you. Do you think a sensible adult would bother with any of this? How you are acting now, this is what they want. That’s why there’s trolls on the internet. Because like most people, you can’t be the bigger person and let it go. Is it worth wasting time raging about some nameless stranger? Do you actually think you are helping enforcing justice for everyone?

Just politely ask the person to stop or move. And if they refuse just leave. If they use offensive words, report them. Eventually if they dont get any reaction they will give up. If the person acts like a child, treat them as such.

Newsflash, there is a function for reporting spam and verbal harassment for a reason. It should really cover all abusable features be they text or sound. Who said anything about enforcing justice for everyone?

I’ve tried politely asking them to stop, back when this first started during the Wintersday event. Instead, the individual proceeded to follow me throughout Lion’s Arch while continuing to spam. In my experience they don’t give up when they don’t get a reaction, and even if that were the case, I am not in personal control of the reactions of every player in the area.

Since you seem to be unable to grasp this crucial point, I’ll reiterate one final time: if ANet were to implement a way to mute SFX from specific players, possibly as a function of blocking them, this wouldn’t be a problem at all. Since they haven’t I posted to inquire as to whether they had adjusted their GMs’ procedures to fit a new form of harassment.

The real reason for nerfing AoE

Wow, they really said this in the live stream?
I’ve never even contemplated AoE being too powerful. If anything, it’s underpowered.
There’s so many trait lines that help you negate the already low damage from AoE, especially when ressing.
To nerf AoE is insane.

I mean, come on, Meteor Shower is a shadow of the skill it was in the original game already. It no longer knocks down anyone standing in its AoE.

And yeah, I’ve never seen ANYONE complain about AoE except for incredibly new players who haven’t got used to seeing the red ring yet.

Can I get an exact quote so I can be sure I’m not misconstruing their intent?
I’d watch the stream, but I’m at work.

The real reason for nerfing AoE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Blueshield.6291

I’m going to make a wild guess here and say you guys are misinterpreting their idea of nerfing the AoE. I think what they mean is, they want to make make single target skills have a place as a skill when compared with AOE skills when it comes to facing 1 monster. So in terms of AOE, if there is more than 1 mob, I don’t think the nerf will be regarding that aspect but if its versing one more, then the damage is reduced (is the idea they’re hoping to achieve?). Hopefully if it’s something along this line I wouldn’t really mind, though these kind of chances are rather controversial given that staff ele and necros pretty mcuh are ALL aoes. Why make a weapon which is all AOE then nerf the damage against solo mob. In general, I too agree that I’ve never seen a problem with “aoes” and that it is a mechanic that is working fine. An official response to clarify the exact nerf and reason would be nice.

Frankly I wouldn’t mind it so much if the plan was what you spelled out – overall distribution of damage across targets. That isn’t what they implied in the livestream – they specifically pointed out that they don’t want AoEs to be used against single targets. Unfortunately I don’t think this is a case where clarification is really needed.

OP – I’m level 36 and haven’t done the story mode yet. I’m looking for complete noobs to run AC with me this weekend and will be advertising this point to them.

Fortunately I haven’t ever had difficulty forming/joining groups for story mode dungeons. It’s only the explorables that people treat like a job rather than a source of entertainment. I hope you enjoy running it, and if you need another player, shoot me a whisper or PM!

Why are you not learning these dungeons within your guild? Best place for learning. Pugs just want to get in and out most of the time.

I can’t blame someone for being tired of teaching that 100th newbie the ropes, tbh. I’m weary of it myself.

Not all players are members of large guilds full of anonymous people that can constantly hammer out dungeons.

It’s not that I don’t understand someone being tired of teaching new players, it’s that in my experience (on TC) so far, the vast majority of players have that mindset.

I came to the game several months after launch, therefore wasn’t around when everyone was learning the dungeons for the first time. The fact that people are demanding experienced players seems to indicate a stagnant playerbase.

I checked within 5 minutes of your post, and some of the ones I listed were 10 minutes or older.

The fact is, people love to sit here and say “even on lfg.com all the postings are only experienced or only speed runs” then that isn’t true, ever.

The fact is, it doesn’t take five minutes to type a one-sentence insult. You apparently simply don’t understand lfg.com or are just trying to argue. New posts go up, old ones get removed by their posters. You can’t check the board considerably later and use that as proof that others are lying. It’s rude and it’s dishonest. Sniping over minutia like this is irrelevant and doesn’t further the discussion in any way.

Its a public place. If you dont like it you can go somewhere else. Same as real life.

That’s simply not ANet’s stance on spamming and exploitation. Nobody offers your argument as an approach to dealing with gold seller spam.

Maybe because its different circumstances? Imagine you in a park and a little boy starts ringing a bell. Are you going to insist that child be arrested? Now replace that person with someone selling stolen goods.

You have so many options. Being so petty as to insist that there is no other solution than the noise maker be punished shows that you are no better off.

First, your real world example is simply not applicable. A better example would be if someone in a subway station started bashing on a gong. In that case, I have no doubt that he would be instructed by law enforcement to depart. The real world does have public nuisance laws, and bell abusers are not simply little boys in parks – they’re deliberately going out of their way to annoy.

Second, I’m not insisting that there’s no other option than that people abusing bells be punished.

My question is, does ANet consider bell abuse to be reportable as an infraction? If not, is there a plan to implement a way to mute specific player’s attack sounds?

I’d be happy as a clam if ANet implemented an SFX mute option because it would solve the problem 100%. What are the “so many options” you allege are available? Muting sound is not an option; players shouldn’t have to be forced to disable core gameplay elements to avoid harassment.

Attacking through gates ( WvWvW)

I have played wvwvw before,i know what defending, and attacking is,and what effects it has and what can counter a ram besides aoe spamming ( arrow cart can do the job just fine )..Besides,yes there is reason to be on the walls..you can easily hit them a few times, back off, rinse repeat ( stability makes sure you wont be pushed off ),build arrowcarts that are able to hit sieges, get people together and rush out, there are countless of things to do instead the aoe spamming.

Huh? Nobody’s suggesting you haven’t participated in WvW. The points in my first post are:

1) You cite siege weapons as an advantage for defenders which renders attacking through gates unnecessary. That is simply false, because all of the applicable siege weapons are usable by attackers as well.

2) The walls grant no strategic benefit to defenders either, therefore “people inside should go up the walls and defend from there” is false. In order to attack from the walls, defenders must put themselves at risk of being knocked off; both sides do equal damage to one another in ranged combat when the walls are involved; both sides are unable to use melee combat. Being able to retreat and heal is not an advantage either, as both sides are able to use the walls to break LOS with the enemy – attackers just have to approach the wall instead.

Getting people and rushing out of the base… I don’t even know how that’s supposed to be strategically helpful. Since attacking forces are inevitably zergs, small numbers of people rushing in to the midst of an enemy group is not only unhelpful, but downright foolish.

( stability makes sure you wont be pushed off )

Not all classes have access to stability via skills that would be useful on the wall. Thieves, for example, only have stability when using their Dagger Storm skill, which prevents them from using any other skills. Additionally, on no class does stability have enough uptime to viably neutralize the problem. More importantly, the problem with walls is that they specifically advantage the attackers – while attackers can pull single defenders off of a wall and pick them off, defenders have no way of pulling individual attackers from a force.

Anyways this is not a discussion on how to attack or defend, its a suggestion to anet about skills being able to hit through a gate.So i now wish for them to look into it and make their own decisions,i urge them to.

You seem to have missed the point. Because of the core mechanics of attacking a fort/tower/keep, it’s necessary to be able to attack through doors. It’s literally the only factor advantaging defenders. In other words, if I’m discussing attack/defense strategies, it’s because your suggestion has a significant impact on them. You can’t ignore the broad ramifications of your suggestion simply because it’s inconvenient.

but they are also utilizing an exploit by circumventing the game’s block and possibly report feature.

The bell thing would be annoying, but this is clearly not true.

How so? They’ve found a way to spam and harass players which is not filtered by any of the game’s mechanics. Exploitation is defined as “using unfairly for one’s own advantage.” Here they’re using the bell choir to spam with the advantage of being apparently (since nobody’s proven otherwise yet) unreportable.

I’ve tried both of those approaches. So far the results have been to get me kicked from the group, be unable to get recruited to a group, and be unable to recruit additional players. I will continue to try at it, since there’s really not much else I can do, but it’s very frustrating constantly being turned down simply for not having ran the content before.

Unfortunately posting that up-front essentially requires the use of in-game chat, which mean hitting far fewer potential party members than would otherwise be reachable via lfg.com.

Everytime someone says that I look it up on lfg.com and every single time they are completely full of kitten.

I guess you didn’t notice that lfg.com is, due to its very nature, constantly changing? The 10 minute interval between my post and yours matters. Consider that before you accuse people of being full of kitten.
