I don’t think Desolation ever truly had a “mass exodus”. Not the same way some other servers have.

What happened with Desolation is when the 24 hour matches started we were winning a lot so a lot of our server who enjoy basking in un-earned glory went into wvw and created queues. When we started losing these people disappeared.

Fairweather wvwers are Desolation’s problem, not so much a mass exodus. The players we lose often come right back when we start winning again, which is a bit frustrating.

Desolation is chock full of what I call cosmetic commanders, that you suspiciously never see until we already own most of the maps.

EDIT: Also I do understand the rest of your points, I think we all know there will be issues being tier 1, which is why we’re preparing now.

Been a good week so far, great matches (although I prefer Kodash to FS, the Germans are much more tactically aware)

The main difference between us is Desolation want to be a tier 1 server. That’s what we’re working towards and that’s why we’re building our night force now, nice and early. That’s where we differ. You’re happy where you are, great, you don’t need any help. We want to go up a few tiers, we needed some time coverage. We’ve always been a high pop server with weirdly low WvW population (even when there are queues it feels like the wvw maps are empty).

We couldn’t rely on IRON to provide night coverage every night (even though they did, just so everyone is aware IRON covered the night for almost a week before RUIN turned up.)

We don’t even have queues now, maybe during primtime an hour or so for EB, but Borderlands is like 10-20 minutes usually.

Also, I clearly stated that the tier one servers may well have a good nightforce because they just stay awake longer. You foiled my assumption with apparently the exact same assumption.

All in all, it’s been a good week. I enjoy fighting Kodash because (as Bloodsteel says) you guys are incredible defenders.

P.S. Even I agree that RUIN turning the whole map blue every night isn’t as fun as duking it out for first, but if that’s what gets us back up into tier 1 where we will have competition late into the night, so be it.

After a few weeks we’ll hopefully be out of your guyses hair and you can go on with your wvw and stop complaining about Desolation.

This isn’t RUINs fault. They felt they could help make an EU server dominant and they chose Desolation. Blaming them for making a system that Anet put in place worse is silly.

The top tier servers have a great night presence. Whether that’s due to different time zone presence, high population because they’re a specific language server or just because they’re full of people who stay up really late doesn’t matter. The fact is those servers have top coverage over night.

Desolation needed help because we could never get that sort of coverage by ourself. We used the rules that Anet set up with the 24 hour warfare system and got ourselves some help. Now we only have one weak time period and we’re looking to strengthen that too.

We went out and made our server better to get us to the top, where RUIN will really have to work at night. They won’t be PvDing in tier 1, that’s for sure.

The few days before RUIN turned up IRON essentially pulled all nighters, which is why we had such a night force those days.

I know a number of the main IRON guys would play till 6/7am.

@Tyila: I might be wrong here, so don’t absolutely quote me on this, but I’ve heard that RUIN have enough members for like, 6 guilds. All of those RUIN/Ruin/ruin tags you see are actually part of the same large guild.

Supposedly, anyway. Not sure how true the rumour is.

I’ve already stated that I might well be wrong, maybe I have just caught you guys at the wrong time or heard your few bad apples trolling in chat.

I readily admit that your guild is big enough there’s no way I can know what all of you are like as players.

T1 keep with no defenders can have the gate down very quick with out siege, a upgraded keep we will always use siege. Also, just because you see some Ruin tags in a zerg, doesn’t mean its a “ruin” zerg. I often go to other borderlands while waiting for the que in what ever BL is our main BL.

No guild wins every fight, but we definitely win more then we lose and with so many great deso wvw guilds, that trend will continue.

The zergs I am talking about are majority ruin members. That’s why I class them as RUIN zergs.

And you might win more than you lose but that’s based entirely on numbers and not your tactical abilities.

funny because any time we are on ts, we call for siege to go down immediately. and we havent had more than 70 in wvw at one time the last couple of nights (70 spread between 4 zones mind you)

Well, I call things as I see em, so sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick. But from everything I’ve seen RUIN aren’t anything special, they’re just a large guild that have lost out on a lot of tactical battles.

Again, that’s only what I’ve seen. Maybe I’ve caught you guys at a bad time, maybe when I wasn’t around you beat the other teams with great tactical knowledge.

I’m not trying to give skewed viewpoint. My opinion, from my experience, is you guys are over rated.

Maybe that will change in the future. Who knows.

And as to your last post: it’s not odd at all. IRON and RUIN are like best buds, so it’s no surprise you’ve got good things to say about each other.

It is odd the number of small guilds that feel you push them aside though, right?

But we clearly have different views on what constitutes “winning fights” is.

I’ve sat and watched you lot just continually zerg up to gates. No siege or anything. Just zerg up to the gate and die when you can’t get in.

I’ve seen RUIN members laugh in map chat about how they don’t need siege and that zerging the door works for them. I’ve SEEN an entire ruin zerg wiped out by forces you outnumbered.

You guys are effective because there’s so many of you.

Tactically though…well, judging by what I’ve seen with my own two eyes… you’re pretty kitten.

Not to mention that every night I’ve seen RUIN try and expand into the borderlands and get embarrassed by the other servers.

They do well in EB but they come into the borderlands and just try and facerub their way through the gate, which is (while hilarious to watch) horribly ineffective and they’ve basically been handing free badges to the other servers, Kodash especially.

2. The 7 days will stay, I’d say. I think it’ll stick at 7 now.

During night time Desolation is capping everything, during day time they’re really really bad.. (Not pointing at RUIN since they can’t run a whole server by themselves) Since 9:30 am (GMT+2) Far Shiverpeaks had +300-400 all day while Desolation had 180-190. Kodash is doing fairly well, didn’t really expect that.

We don’t have the day time forces. That’s what every Desolation player keeps trying to say. We do badly morning and day because we don’t have the players.

Come evening we get IRON on in force, closely followed by RUIN.

RUIN don’t carry Desolation by themselves as it is now…

There is only one European server with 24/7 coverage and its Desolation. Vizunah and Elona Reach have a lot more at night than Far Shiverpeaks but far less than Desolation.

Desolation has easily enough players in the morning to hold what they have. In the morning things are equal and in terms of timezone and numbers but the Desolation players have no organisation or leadership and give up. I guess it easier to come up with excuses than actually try.

Never seen a server with a more defeatist attitude than Desolation. You are the probably the most populated server in Europe and have by far the largest time zone coverage. What you lack is organisation outside of Iron and Ruin, but most of all what you lack is spirit. Soon you will be up against far more people at night and morning than FS due to having two time zones. We will see then whether you lack loyalty as well as spirit.

If you think Desolation have a good morning crew then you’ve clearly never been on Desolation in the morning.

The one time period we lack is that morning time.

So no update regarding the snowballing effect most matches have. And the Off-Peak point gaining is still stupid.
It is almost 3am now, and our server was matched against Desolation again.
We already know the winner, because they have the Ruin zerg every night.

30 minutes after a match started, and our people are already leaving WvW because there is no need to fight an already lost match…

I don’t understand why people assume these have to be mutually exclusive concepts. Yes it IS about the world and keeping/capturing points. But to do that, you usually have to interact with and fight against players. So some people here are asking for that part to get some tweaks.

Showing player names just invites far to much opportunity for griefing and hurling abuse at other players.

Me and my guildies already fairly regularly get people whisping us telling us we suck cause we killed them and stuff like that, or whisping us when they kill us to tell them they’re the super best and we should l2p.

As it is these guys are dedicated to getting our names. Imagine how much worse it’d be if people have the free ability to hurl abuse at anyone whenever they want.

It’s already fairly easy to recognise guilds and build rivalries up over that. I already have an irrational hatred for thUn on Blacktide because of their ridiculously effective mesmer usage. I don’t need to know their player names. I hate them all universally.

The problem with WVW is Anet has done literaly nothing. No participation based scoring system. No performance fixes, zero balancing for WVW. I dont expect that to change. It requires the performance fix first and an entire new forumal for every skill in the game including how endurance works. Ask yourselves if you honestly believe that is ever going to happen based on the developement history and rate of patching?

Anet have already said previously they won’t balance for WvW. You’re supposed to use teamwork and co-ordination, not be balanced for 1v1 against every other class.

We may be winning this week, but that means very little.

I had even more fun the last two weeks when we were getting absolutely spanked. I find myself having fun in wuvwuv no matter what’s going on.

I still have a lot of fun in WvW, both when we’re winning and when we’re losing.

I run a guild on Desolation. We’re a small guild of about 30 people, named Brothers of Aesir [BoA]. Our aim is to build a community together, forge strong friendships and play this game for years together. There’s always a core of us on TS in the evenings chatting and playing together (you can normally find anywhere from 5-12 of us on TS and we’re poking some of the others into coming on regularly)

We’re 18+ with a one week trial. We do accept under 18s too, but they have a two week trial just to make sure we know they’re mature enough to not cause drama or dishonour the Brothers of Aesir name in game.

We WvW nearly every night, we run dungeons nearly every night, we level alts together (well me and the other co-founder are, we’ve got a couple of level 80s that tag along and make sure we don’t die to much :P)

We’re UK based although our membership has slowly spread to include places such as Sweden, Norway, Poland and Estonia. I’m sure there’s at least one or two more nations that I can’t remember right now!

What we’re looking for in members is essentially someone who will chat on TS, have a laugh with us, run some dungeons, have a bit of a lark about, then get serious and partake in wvw when we go in. We form as many 5 man parties as possible, (usually we have 1 full party and then a half full party) and essentially raid camps, kill dolyaks, disrupt supply and occasionally take an undefended tower or two.

I didn´t even know until now that there was a hacker on kodash (and I´m sure that I´m not the only one).

So maybe the lesson we learned today is that there should be a better communication between the three opposing server (in terms of “anti-hacking” and fairplay).

It was very well reported and I even went over to the german forums to try and figure something out :P

I was met with a blanket “nope, can’t do that, don’t want to give you the keep” response.

So, yeah. :P

We would do the same. It’s a shame that it is possible to hack orbs but all servers should stand together playing fair. We are trying to get the orb back and gunnars are deffing it with all they have. This is not really playing fair.

Well that’s just not true.

The hacker that went to your server when you were against Desolation and SFR stole all the orbs for you guys constantly from Desolation and SFR and never once did you offer to give them back, so I have to call BS on that claim that you’d give it back.

Basically I’m just curious about something.

Two days ago I sold my Orichalcum for 3 silver 99c per ore.

Yesterday, I sold it for 3 silver 68c per ore.

Today it’s down to 3 silver 11c per ore.

Is this just due to an influx in Orichalcum because people can do a run on every character they have that can complete the run? Or is it due to some nefarious tactics by someone trying to artificially lower the price?

Kodash had a problem the other week against Deso and SFR that a hacker transferred to their server to annoy SFR.

I wonder if it’s the same guy transferring to GH to annoy Kodash now.

Without a doubt, mesmer.

Thieves are annoying too because they can spike me down pretty quickly if I’m not paying attention, but on the flip side they’re fairly squishy and with good co-ordination I can avoid a lot of their damage (I still regularly accidentally fire into their spinny dagger thing that reflects projectiles. Still a total noob )

But mesmers…boy they make my head spin. Take on a mesmer and poof suddenly there’s four of them, I’ve lost which one is the real one and suddenly have no idea what I’m doing. I know again this is partly my fault because I shouldn’t get so bamboozled, but it is what it is and mesmer is my least favourite class to face.

This is a problem, not sure what the delay is in correcting it.

The delay in correcting it is they won’t stop free transfers until guesting is implemented (by all accounts), and from all signs guesting is still a way off.

You can see it through walls and things too. We discovered an enemy mesmer hiding in the water in Ascension Bay because we saw their 100% star hiding in the rocks.

In tier 1 and two there normally is a big night time presence when RUIN are around, that’s what they’re gearing towards.

This week we discovered it turns out we actually have no day time presence, so we need more guilds that can play during EU day time. Although as far as I can tell Blacktide is pretty unique in its coverage abilities, wouldn’t surprise me to see them rise all the way to the top based on the time zones they can cover

That’s another thing we’ve seen from every single server, and one of the reasons we consistently do mesmer sweeps after capping. If you honestly think that’s cheating, you’re going to cry “Cheat! Exploit!” every single matchup :/

Additionaly someone reported seeing russian mesmers teleport infront of them out of nowhere and pop portals, south side of AB, which never got breached.

They’ll probably just claim that those mesmers have been there hours waiting.

Seemingly it’s only the AR borderland as well, oddly.

I can recommend Desolation as a server, we are slowly getting ourselves organised, with a strong spine that daytime EU is really the only time slot in which we have no major presence.

I can safely say that everyone I’ve met on desolation so far is nice, willing to help, friendly and there is very little spam and whining in team chat.

As we move up the ranks we’re finding that 24 hour coverage is necessary. You could help us get right to the top.

I don’t think people are upset about you providing a challenge, I think people are upset that you’re providing a challenge at a time when most Deso players are away :P

Last night things started evening out after 5/6pm, although you had such a big lead it took a while to show it.

Deso really needs a daytime presence We’ve got the evening and night time covered pretty well but we’ve been brutal during the day these past couple of days.

Either that or Blacktide has an unusually large number of unemployed people :P
