I was hoping gliders were viable in the new desert BL but it seems unlikely..
We already have spear.
Underwater. heh.
Which funnily enough is one of my favourite weapons in the game.
Yep the skills and cooldowns are ridiculously good.
We already have spear.
Underwater. heh.
Anet is clearly kitten in the head.
Mh weps: 2
2h weps: 2
Off hand weps: 4
Oh and they give us another off hand…
What we want and have always wanted is a MH pistol. IT’S NOT HARD ANET JUST DO IT
Hell I wouldn’t mind getting hammer at all either.
Dynamic combat and environment. I tried my best to main FF14 but I just couldn’t…I quit for 7 months due to questionable development decision. So far I’m impressed with Living Season 2 and the story in general and I’m personally hyped for the expansion, but on the other hand I fear how the bad dev choices may come again. Hopefully not.
Lol, wrong attitude Cae, we need to rise up my mesmer brothers and sisters, rise up and overthrow our warrior-kitten oppressors, all in the name of our survival! WAR is needed, War for the changes that our class is in need of.
Oh no, I didn’t mean to get over this at all lol, I meant to get over the idea of it not being an offhand as some people want to dream about. But ya, don’t like this shield. I feel the new grandmaster trait incident is gonna repeat all over again (Latest grandmaster traits and almost all of them were utterly useless i.e. Power Block).
Not to mention they’re taking the Alpine Borderlands away in the start of the expansion. Taking away WvW from map complete is obviously a move done to prepare for that.
It’s an offhand, get over it ._.
Running without mobility in WvW is basically asking for death — which is why we’re so crippled in terms of having more varied builds because we almost always have to use travelers whereas other classes pull mobility out of their wazoos…
There was an abusive aspect for PvE (the projectile absorb and return with Echo), and instead of doing a propper fix or rework the devs did a lazy fix.
Mimic is a utility skill with no utility and no synergy with the Mesmer profession.
Mimic’s reflect/block have a place on the bar in place of something like decoy. It just needed the absorb removed so it didnt get interrupted on the first hit, and echo done away with. Not rocket science Anet.
Unfortunately, it seems mesmer IS rocket science for Anet…
I’m all for unique WvW legendaries. Would give WvW more incentive when there’s no tournament going on. Although I still stand by my opinion, matchmaking needs a revamp.
Personally, I’ve taken a liking to Arcane Thievery especially with all the cele builds.
Some PVE crybabies got what they wanted. WvW players get nada.
With that logic, if WvW players get something are they considered crybabies too?
In any case, I think it’s a good change. Just consider the people who want to get the Gift of Exploration but they are stuck in a server that’s really bad in WvW. What kind of person would deny them of getting something they work hard for; What kind of person would tell them to suck it up and fork up the money to transfer? In my case, I lucked out because Gate of Madness went on a tear the past Spring Tournament, but look at where they are now, placing last and getting thrashed each and every week. If I were to do map completion now I’d probably just give up.
IMO this is should be a case of completely revamping WvW matchmaking. But that’s a whole new argument.
Couldn’t read through all that 19 pages but if anyone would kindly answer me this question: What exactly is preventing the idea of changing silk crafting cost from 3 to 2 just like metal and leather crafts?
From what I know, Blink works as a tile radius wherein any spot is accessible as long as the “walking path” is visible and within a 1200 range. Take for example the Airship access using the airship pass, when you use blink on the stairs from below you will be able to get up since there is a clear path and the tile range is within 1200 (traited). My worry is they might take this away. I could care less on nerfing the actual “broken” spots.
Is it gonna affect PvE/WvW or how blink performs in general outside of PvP?
Mesmer F skills are bad currently so they have nowhere to go but up. They won’t lose phantasms unless all their weapon skills change, but if the Illusions line is changed theymay get things that make them less dependent on phantasms to deal damage in PvE.
Honestly I dunno how their new skills could possibly be worse than shatters, at least.
Trust me, it could still go down. Remember new grandmaster traits aka Power Block?… yep..
Considering how much “feedback” Anet takes from here, there is little to no hope…
What are the chances that anet gives us a shield phantasm that involves interrupting/dazing targets when it gets hit?
Extremely unlikely. AI-based hard cc that can potentially be tripled in intensity is something that would be nigh-impossible to balance ever. It would either have to be awful or would end up being incredibly overpowered.
Yep..hard to argue with that….
What are the chances that anet gives us a shield phantasm that involves interrupting/dazing targets when it gets hit?
Mind Stab had daze O_O
What people are forgetting is that even if the shield skills are good (which is highly doubtful) then we are still stuck with what weapon to use it with. Scepter will still be bad outside of its little niche leaving us with just sword. So what happens if we want to use another one of our off hands as well? Go S/Sh S/x? The diversity of the class!
This is a very good point.
Mesmers from inception: Hey ArenaNet, we would really love to have Main hand Pistol.
ArenaNet: Okay, that’s what you want? Here’s an offhand shield.
+1 Sums up the whole dev-to-mesmers communication.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
If warriors can swing mindlessly and cause AoE CC, idk why our Diversion shouldn’t be AoE by default especially at a kittenty 35s cooldown.
4.) I still don’t understand behind the idealogy of meta, its not as if 95% of the mesmer population will play top tier pvp.
This x100. Crying about thieves when there are many Mesmer builds that handle them just fine, is a problem with individuals not the profession.
Ok alanis, gimme 1?
Condi Mesmer.
Ah yes, the famous Condi mesmer.. Aka (PU Condi). Yes that was the great thief equalizer. I use to play one. But guess what, PU got nerfed among the other things & is no longer the great equalizer. So try again… ps: If you get downed by a condi mesmer, maybe you might want to considder spamming on button number 2 instead of just the usual button mashing number 1 to kill the mesmer. That might help..
Most maim builds wreck thieves.
PU, played well, wrecks thieves.
Countless’ clone on death build obliterates thieves.
Certain celestial specs wreck thieves, though you won’t see them actively advertised here cause haters.I could go on with various power builds but don’t see the point. Build diversity isn’t perfect but certainly not the problem in this case. There are plenty of viable builds that can be used when you see a thief on the other team. It just takes more experimentation to play these other builds so that when you’re up against a thief you have options, as opposed to the inflection in this thread that mesmers are rendered helpless against them.
Sorry for off-topic but just wanted to ask, from my 7 month absence prior to now, were celestial stats buffed?
On-topic though, since expac is coming and hearing how “build diversity” has been one of the major focuses of the devs alongside specializations, it brings some sort of hope. Then again it could mean nerfing and breaking here and there again.
While Shatter Mesmers are especially vulnerable against Thieves I don’t agree that other builds overall have a significantly easier time against them. Thieves just happen to counter one of our major defensive mechanics (mobility) by just being better at it. The same goes for stealth. Mesmers also are at a disadvantage because most of our skills require a target which is pretty annoying when fighting someone who is constantly evading or stealthing up.
I don’t feel that nerving Thieves in general to make it easier for Mesmers is the right thing to do. While Mesmers might be at a very notable disadvantage against Thieves they do need their current tool set to be able to deal with the other classes.
There are some things which could easily be changed without causing too many balance issues. The most obvious one probably is Consume Plasma. It’s just ridiculous especially when facing a traited Steal.
That said, Thieves probably aren’t the sole (or the most important) reason Mesmers are having a rather hard time in the current meta. However, this might also be due to the fact that Thieves aren’t necessarily on every team as it has been in the past. The team with a Mesmer as a roamer will still be at a disadvantage if the opposing team runs a Thief.
Unless i miss something, Except for maybe plasma & some tweaking, nobody talked about nurfing the thief for the benefit of the mesmer. No, we talk mostly about what’s wrong with the mesmer vs the thief & you do bring up some valid points on that subject. We as in mesmer players want real adjustments. Real fixes. To make it viable vs all classes as they are viable towards us & all others. & anyone saying that the mesmer is not broken & the fault stands to the player skill, is an idiot!!! & does not know what the hell he is talking about.
Yep. Reiterating my rant on Consume Plasma. 10s of all boons is just overkill. It’s like Anet saying to Thieves, “Hey, if you guys see any mesmers they count as boons.”
Fun fact, in beta they toyed around with diversion being an aoe daze, as it should have been. Spvp whine got it to the pathetic state it is in, where now you need a master trait to make it aoe.
It’s kinda hilarious a hammer/mace warrior provides more frequent lockdown than a mesmer and it’s aoe control to boot, and their CC weapon does bucketloads of damage with high base numbers as all warrior weapons do.
Or you can be a /p thief and control on demand. All of their weapons CC without trait investment. Mesmer has to kill his phantasms (damage) to affect a single target with an unreliable daze that depends on the travel distance of the clone to the casting target.
But awful autoattacks are not strictly a mesmer problem. Rangers and necromancers suffer the same issues (the ranger’s greatsword used to be even better than the warrior greatsword, just to give an indicator of how far it has fallen). The necromancer was nerfed to HELL in beta.
Pretty much every class you see that kinda sucks in the game, was one of the classes that received significant nerfs by the end of beta.
In beta they’d do balance patches every 2 weeks, sometimes weekly. On live you get tooltip fixes every 3-4 months and a few insignificant number tweaks or irrelevant additions to skills every 6 months.
Then you have brilliant development ideas, for example with the ranger greatsword the issue always was its autoattack chain doing pitiful damage and maul having to big a windup. Instead of fixing its damage issues, a particular developer went in and wanted to remove the built in evade from the greatsword auto chain and put it on swoop (the built in evade on the attack chain is the lifeblood of any frontline ranger build, rangers don’t have enough mitigation tools beside it to stay in large scale melee). The outrage in the ranger community over such an unnecessary change caused the developer to simply put the evade on swoop and buff the final hit of the autoattack chain by 10%. Basically a change nobody asked for and the damage buff was way too marginal to make the greatsword a competitive pve weapon (rangers only use it over main hand sword because the main hand sword displaces mobs and its animation lock can be a liability in some encounters).
That makes me sad about Diversion…Not to mention it’s on a really crap cooldown, compared to the said Hammer Warrs where they swing around all day everyday…Sigh.
Still sad no dual pistol….
Thieves will always be Anet’s precious babies.
Look, I’m not exactly pleased with the state of the class right now, but I like to make sure my complaints have a solid basis in reality.
it’s tough to believe you are not fine with class as is right now, because you do vocally calling people wrong and / or discredit other people’s complaints.
So, I’d love to see your list of what YOU are not happy about, because from the posts I’ve seen you made, you sure sound like you are perfectly fine with the current state of the Mesmer class.
Huh, and here I thought Pyro was well-known here. Unless you’re new? From what I remember he got banned here because Anet kept breaking our class, and there’s a lot of sarcasm in his posts if you can’t tell.
4.) I still don’t understand behind the idealogy of meta, its not as if 95% of the mesmer population will play top tier pvp.
This x100. Crying about thieves when there are many Mesmer builds that handle them just fine, is a problem with individuals not the profession.
So you’re suggesting to build especially just against one class?
IMO the real problem is consume plasma. Like OP said, we’re literally food lol. 10s of all boons, how is that not OP? 3-4s would have been fine.
One thing to note though, will it stack up to 25 like might?
FPV with spinny attacks would be funny (assuming it’s full first person and not just camera zoom).
When Anet broke iLeap, I quit for 7 months. That’s how much I treasured this class.

Ohh, so yea I guess it’s pretty nerfed, which I’m not complaining about, except when we see hambows all over the place again.
Certainly is confusing — will it still have timers or will it be like mantra stacks from now on? Also, this looks good for lockdown mes, but then there’s hambow warriors that will take advantage of it too.
It’s not confusing. It’s just like blind except it stacks. You can use condi removal to cleanse blind, or you can miss an attack. Similarly, you can use boon removal to strip stab, or you can use cc to strip a single stack.
The confusing part is will they still retain timers or will it stay until it’s consumed?

Taunt vs Thieves, thoughts, thoughts? Also, would combining slow, cripple, and frozen seem a tad overkill?

Alright thanks for the answers, I suppose I’ll get them then.
So I missed the entirety of Living Season 2 and my question is: Are there any important or exclusive stuff other than the story and achievement points that I would miss if I don’t buy the episodes?
Sure, when silk shows up as often as thick leather and cost as little as leather recipes. Honestly stupid design choice, why the hell are leather components less used but more available???
Probably because putting a new weapon in means they’ll have to have at least 2 new ones out for thematic purposes. (Each class can only have one or the other)
DODGE
/15charssss
inb4 it’s a feature, working as intended
The point of the argument here is not the difficulty of the achievement itself; It is these types of achievements offset the gameplay in groups wherein people would “achievement-grind” as opposed to just playing the mode as it’s supposed to. Poor design judgement.
Vash is too good.
can i has zap pls ._.
