..being a cynical forecaster.
..being a doom-monger….and being a hopeless jinxer.
7 months of me being inactive and it seems Anet still hasn’t improved on optimizing event achievements. That’s worrying considering the upcoming expansion..
I suppose you’re right Seal, and I’m glad Mesmers got buffed since then. Recent interest really just spiked because of the new expansion, which isn’t bad I suppose, as long as the expansion will actually deliver. As for legendaries, the one thing that turned me off was the precursor, because it was too RNG/gold gated compared to all the other stuff that I didn’t mind farming at all (gifts/materials). With the promise of the precursor hunt nowhere in sight at that time, it turned me off from the game. Hopefully the new precursor hunt promise for the coming expansion will actually be executed and executed well. Mmm, well I suppose I’ll give it a shot in coming back, just have to convince gf now lol.
Hi all, I know my question is pretty generic, I apologize. I also know this type of question has been popping up ever since the expansion details were released. For me, personally, it’s because MattVisual’s vids about the new expansion have been piquing my interest.
Basically, I quit around just before Season 2 of LS started (it got boring). The gold grind for a legendary burnt me out. I found the fact that legendaries didn’t feel like legendaries because the process revolved around the RNG precursor (or buying them at ridiculous prices). Also, added to the gold farming, is the fact that too much stuff that interests me (skins, tasty skins) made me think the cash shop holds too much value in the game and burnt me out even more on the gold grind. Add the nerfs to Mesmers. which I mained, and that put the final nail on the coffin. ArenaNet’s dev choices put a bad taste in my mouth and I ended up quitting. To me right now, the game and its premise (especially the combat) still holds a place in my gaming heart but ever since I quit, I have viewed ArenaNet’s choices to be very very poor.
So I ask again, if I were to come back, will these views still hold true, or have recent changes and the promising expansion change my mind? Thank you for any who can answer!

No MH sword, staff, focus love….
You mean nerf/break-mesmer-patch
better quality assurance
Don’t go mesmer, you’ll just delve into a class that’s always screwed over. Save yourself the anguish and disappointment.
Perhaps they will release Cantha + Elona at once XD.And blow every other MMORPG in to oblivion =p.
You mean they’ll blow their own game out to oblivion seeing as they cant even optimize the game right now thanks to their god tier quality assurance /sarcasm.
Idk about you guys but for me, if they fix staff#2 to be only usable with a target…ah who am I kidding I’ve already given up on this game lol
inb4 they break DE in response to this
I’ve been drawn to Mesmer from the first time I got this game thanks to Osi’s videos.
I’ve only ever played lockdown mes PvP-wise ever since I started PvP/WvW thanks to seeing your lockdown thread Chaos. I was even about to make Bolt cause sw/sw was so great.
Sadly I’m about to quit/go inactive too with only half a year of playing. The game has been great, too bad I can’t say the same with the devs running it.
I’ve mostly been a lurker here but watching the mes community was more intriguing compared to other class forums imo.
Off to try the new FF14 content for me.
Someone’s a sourpuss

I’d say gw2 combat shines for PvP. However, Anet never got to take advantage of this potential in which case it gets stale after a while due to lack of new stuff so it depends on how long you stay interested.
Also, you can level through sPvP and to a lesser extent, WvW.
sPVP has no gear restriction, you get everything you need and you get uplvled to match others, you’ll only need skill.
WvW is more “end game” PvP where your gear and level sorta matters.

Disappointment.
I prefer the war drum cause you can spam the bass and it sounds like a menacing war hymn LOL
I love pulling out a war drum while running with the zerg.
IM A BARD kitten
It’s a great shatter weap.
As much as people have the distaste in rant threads, the truth stands tall.
WvW been the same in 2 years.
sPvP been the same in 2 years.
Everything is put into LS and gem store.
Chances are as low as a precursor drop.
Whoa oedipus furry alert
Also, remember that some of our weapons, scepter, sword and aforementioned focus in particular have skills that can be activated twice.
Sword 3- Press once for an illusion, press twice for a swap that immobilizes.
Sword 4 – Press once for a block, press twice for a daze projectile
Scepter 2 – Press once for a block, press twice for a blind
Focus 4- activate for a skill area that gives you swiftness, activate a second time to trigger a pull
Just thought this would help because I only knew about the second activation for scepter and sword when I was already at level 60 lol ._.
I never use that combo and don’t see the point in her pulling her hair out trying to get the timing right. You can honestly just drop a warden, roll in with sword and just destroy whatever is in front of you.
Err did I order her to learn it? I only gave her a good tutorial at the top of my head. If she doesn’t get it right away no one’s gonna shout at her and tell her she’s bad. If she doesn’t wanna do it I won’t tell her she’s bad neither. I think I’ve contributed more than you saying “just drop curtain and spam 11111”.
It’s good to learn for PvE because it’s the best way for mesmers to clear mobs. The only good instant AoE’s we have for PvE are mind wrack, Illusionary Berserker (Greatsword), and these are limited since you can’t directly control the range. With the focus combo you can gather them in almost one cell and unleash these AoE’s effectively.
So..it’s like a paid petition?
sword/focus is your pve friend
I’m sure it can be IF you know what you are doing. For someone who is still trying to grasp the targeting concept, and the active combat mechanisms it might prove more of a challenge. But GS and Sword MH would be a good place to start.
Learning the focus combo early will be good for her experience. The sequence goes 4-5-4(while casting 5)-3-3-2.
4=Temporal Curtain. This skill when you activate it twice allows you to pull enemies towards it. You would usually put this beside a wall and on an angle that would be able to group mobs up.
5=Illusionary Warden. Basically you cast this and right after you start casting press 4 right away to activate Temporal Curtain pull.
3=Illusionary Leap, it sends an illusion to your enemy — make sure you’re in range, most of the time I’d stick close to the enemy so it doesn’t fail. Activate it twice so you can do Swap that immobilizes AoE contact which lets you pin down mobs you’ve pulled.
2=Blurred Frenzy. One of our best skills, it lets you deal damage while being invulnerable to damage.
Tried searching for a vid of this combo but to no avail so I could only describe it as best as I could.
sword/focus is your pve friend
So by this logic, will festival of four winds and the pavillion be permanent too?
The game IS good, but the way the devs have been implementing content has either been lacking or questionable and their quality assurance is terrible. The focus is lackadaisical sometimes and the fact that interaction and reassurance between the players is close to none.
In other words, it’s a great game with regressing potential due to development choices.
Of course all this IMO and from what I’ve experienced so far.
Feels like most, if not all, their resources are concentrated on LS season 2 and that alone lol, typical.
GW2 has worst community ever ! after League Of Legends. When i talk about GW2 community i mean only those that come on forums, wile League community are toxic in game.Still little kids, trolls, whiners….this is just enough..
There’s nothing worse than MOBA communities…half the time I see my brother play dota makes me feel like it’s a rage game.
Just play warrior you can run forever
All aboard the hambow train.
I think the better idea is let everyone have the 25% movement as standard and let swiftness be that extra boost.
The fact that legendaries are BOUGHT instead of a personal effort through a tedious but rewarding quest and made account bound is mind boggling. They’re called legendaries kitten what’s the point of just buying them—oh right there’s this gem to gold thing that you can do…..oh well……
BUY GEMS NOW ! Did you know you can turn your gems into gold ?!
Should always be just either one or the other — f2p or p2p…never both please…….
Theoretically the damage output as a power build seems lacking as well as movement speed out of combat possibly being an issue for most. It’s definitely a high skill cap build as is all lockdown builds because if you miss your shots and interrupts itll be dangerous.
In my experience though (I’ve only ran lockdown ever since I started WvW, although I’m still poor at it especially since I’m shatter lockdown spec x_x) lockdown build is soooooooo good in team fights and ganking but pretty difficult in 1vX/1v1 situations.
Lockdown in PvP differs greatly from lockdown in WvW due to more variables =/
I learned this from running a variant of Chaos’ shatter lockdown.
Still having a hard time with the 5 gambit so looking forward to that, thanks
Apparently til new LS season (July 1)…
The reason people are hating megaservers is because Anet never optimized/fine-tuned it for specific situations e.g. guild missions.
For me, personally, the megaserver made the game more MMO-like but the lack of aforementioned tuning is turning others off and are taking away the chance of them appreciating it. It all boils down on implementation. Sadly, IMO, Anet’s QA has been reaaaaaaaaaally terrible and one can only hope of improvements.
On a side note, I really hope Anet’s not gonna go with an out of sight, out of mind mentality given all the silence and close-to-nothing feedback regarding the feature patch.
Exactly what I’m saying. The way they just shoved to us the new mechanics is counterproductive when they could have innovated like the above idea, instead of the majority running around like headless zergling chickens.
Zerglings: “Hey guys where’s the zerg?”
Poor organizing enthusiast: “Guys we need to form into small groups !”
Zerglings: “lol wat aint nobody got time for that, oooo a tag, we’ll all head there”
Why was this not an option?
Instead of a few people who have the sense of calling for organization only to have the zerglings ignore them and zerg off anyway.
Instead of being lucky and getting into a map that do pull off organized events, which are a harsh minority.
A lobbying system would have helped where during the blitz the areas are sealed off and the entrance is through an npc with a head count and maybe a limiter.
could you elaborate on how to? Seems blocks dont block the headshot skill ._.
Anyone been able to finish the 5 gambit achievement with guard? Any tips and help are appreciated :c
Maybe fix the current skills first..for example this thread..
I think Anet is trying to compete with the goldsellers, since technically…they are one too (gems to gold)……..
Not getting bored, mostly burned out, not by the game, but by the decisions of the devs.
In other precursor news, at this point in time, there are zero, yes zero Zaps in the TP.
When is the precursor issue going to be adressed seriously…
The silence from Anet regarding precursors is deafening.
Not everyone is JQ sadly.
Underwater combat isnt that bad as you think I personaly pretty enjoy it. Its simply need some polish and effort thats all.
Something that Anet’s been lacking recently.
