Frustrated Warrior

Run a lyssa build. Valks, or fractal power, tough, crit damage is the way to build your warrior from now on. Lyssa runes are by far the best runes a warrior can have. Learn to use it and you’ll become skilled. Drop Greatsword and pick up a sword board/hammer. You remember Matali? I plan on making a Matali 2.0 video to commemorate him, with an updated build that actually does damage.

This forum helped me a lot. Although I didn’t really use the garbage builds mentioned in here, I made my own, it still gives you a concept of the idea. boon duration 30%, crit damage, and empowerd trait gives you huge burst when used properly. If you need help building and want some advice or critique, I’m here. Talon Deathblade is my char name. Warrior is frustrating until you become pretty skilled with a great build. Even then, you have broken classes that just face roll everything with minimal effort like thief and mes, even guardian. Nothing you can do but wait for the devs to get their heads out of their kitten and balance the kittening game. GW1 seemd like it was much more of a science to balance, and not a case of wait 6 months for them to update tooltips for what the skills REALLY do and how op they are.

1) Warrior’s 1h sword skills should include a shockwave-ranged cone ability that radiates outward in a crescent. I always had a thing for that kind of animation. I saw something like it in Lineage 2, but I never played lin2. One of the coolest features ever. Something like the mesmer’s 5 ability for GS, only it cripples instead of knock back.

2) Change warrior’s 1h sword burst ability. It’s garbage. The skill takes like a second to cast sometimes, it’s very clunky. If you use it accidentally and don’t have evades, it’s difficult to move out of it unless you mash your wasd keys for a minute. Even then you’ve taken like 3 hits from an enemy in wvw by then.

3) This goes for all classes, but add new utility skills (see 1… I want that shockwave). Most of our utilities are horrible unless you’re talking pve wise. I am a solo wvw player.

4) Banners are horrible in anything other than pve. You constantly need to be near them for them to be effective. This offers no qualms in pve, since you are mainly stationary, but in wvw you either hold it, drop it and run away from it, or just forget to pick it up rendering one of your utility slots useless for another 96-120 seconds. Also When you drop it, you go into weapon cool down which is very bad. As an environmental weapon it’s absolutely useless unless you’re trolling people with the 4 ability. I say it should function like a backpack. It should have similar mechanics to the ranger’s pet UI. Wear it on your back and only offer the buffs it gives as skills you can click. If you’re running 3 banners, it would have 3 different flags on your back. You get a small, maybe 1-3 slot skill bar above your left skill bar. Offer 1 cast-able skill per banner equiped in that mini skill bar.

5) This goes similar with the banner idea, but instead of banners, give us utility slot Aura skills. Auras are like banners but they don’t need to be clunky as hell and are just passive buffs that bestow a faint, colorful aura with certain buffs. Personally I would have preferred this idea over banners. Devs, what were you thinking with banners. Sad panda.

Finally got my bolt. I have a ghastly grin shield, which I’m using now, but I forgot how amazing the diamond aegis looked.

Mainly Sword/Shield playstyle for wvw

It seems like most of us use the sword as a utility, which I’m not going for. I don’t like the idea of using it as a setup for a better weapon spike. Compared to axes, if you spec power swords you’re really selling yourself short in the longrun for dps. There’s too much counter to sword making it hard to hit the 3rd chain attack often. Cripple is on a long cooldown, even if it misses and that only leaves us with leap. While it’s nice as a first gap closer, there’s enough gap closers for other professions that negate it. I’m wondering if anyone out there has found a build/gear set that allows them to hit decently with sword, while still maintaining enough damage negation to be effective? I’ve found a hilarious banner bunker build that has managed to outheal a guard, and d/d ele, but the damage is literally nonexistant.

My opinion is that the sword doesn’t offer enough viability or single target dps solely on its own, without having to use it in conjunction with another weapon, like longbow for condi damage, or great sword for hard damage. Even with high power/crit, the f1 for sword still does terrible damage unless specc’d into bleeds.

Hello all, first time on forums so bear with me.

I’m a decent wvw player who loves to play solo or with a friend mainly for ganks/camp raids. I have tried a ton…. of different builds and weapon variations. I have like 3 entire bank tabs dedicated to all my exotic weapons/armor/accessories. I played a lot of gw1, and dabbled in aion for a few months and greatly enjoyed the playstyle of templar in aion, and warrior in gw1. My obsession with heavy armor has always been the look of the sword board along with it.

I came up with a build that has worked so far, it’s very nice in 1v1’s and in most team situations. Regardless, I feel condition spikes in this game don’t ever amount to raw dps as with an axe for example.

I run a full set of toughness, prec, and condi damage, including weapons/trinkits.
Even with a sword as my main, most of my dps comes from the longbow, especially after the pin down buff (6 bleeds along with an imob instantly). I tend to use longbow 3/4 of the time I’m ever fighting and feel like sword has only been used for warrior as a utility/gap tool.

I suppose I’m asking numerous questions. How do other warriors feel about the sword and shield setup in this game, I know I’m not the only sword/board kitten out there. What are some other gear variations with sword/shield that work? I’ve thought about getting an entire valk set and playing with that, but it seems like raw damage from a sword still doesn’t surpass its conditional use. One of my favorite things about gw1 was the way hundred blades worked for 1h sword, making sword an amazing spike weapon. I think it would be nice to see something like that added in gw2. Are there any other sword shield warrior mains out there, and if so do you mind compare/contrasting my build with yours?
