Why is the big red arrow a big deal?

You’ve already avoided a stomp, likely gotten out of harm’s way, and probably got 1-2 seconds of additional stealth out of it.

Perhaps you would suggest you just stay un-detected for longer? Lol. Perhaps remove the arrow so the downed player would have a 50/50 chance in avoiding a second stomp?

The arrow is there for a reason.. to avoid the skill from becoming even more superior than it is already. This thread doesn’t really have a leg to stand on, imo.

Solo q NOW is in the worst state ever

I made a thread some time ago where i said solo q was in the worst state ever.

Well i was wrong.

NOW it’s in the worst state ever, to the point that i don’t even understand why so many horrible players even queue.

Moreover everytime i play, ranked people are like 2/10 ( wut), sometimes totally none.

Has EU really reached NA level ?

I’m getting so discouraged that i may even try to play with a team. OMG.

Reached NA level? I would say they were always on par (good or bad). Saying one was ahead or behind the other was nothing more than egos getting carried away.

Sorry, this is incorrect. The level of competition and general competence of SoloQ rotations & individual player skill in EU region is pretty overwhelmingly better than NA. Many EU players especially can vouch for this.

Lol, what? Just that ONE skill made the staff viable?

You really twisted what I said. He mentioned he liked staff, so I merely brought up a skill that will be much better when the patch hits. Cleansing Water is not just a staff specific buff, lots of Ele builds can apply regeneration.

Right now I try to nuke people, but even when they sit in my AOEs, I do no damage. In PvE, I completely destroy everything with the staff (except in Arah), but when I bring the same build to PvP, it does no damage at all. Needs buff?

Player skill issue. Focusing your efforts on point pressure and especially downed bodies will ensure you are maximizing your effectiveness. Staff ele, by design, is extremely weak against off-point or mobile enemies. It’s just a matter of recognizing situations where you will be effective in, and putting yourself in those situations as much as possible.

Staff Support is viable right now in coordinated tPvP. I see it being a situational, optimal pick after April 15th.

I recommend you don’t play staff Ele until April 15th. Cleansing Water is getting a revert to the old, OP version. The group condition removal you can get with Staff 5 and other water traits are out to lunch.

Mesmer downed state 2 is like, the best downed state 2 attack there is, after elementalist.

It’s easy to see why stealthing and moving a random 400 distance is harder to stomp than preventing a stomp by shooting a measly interrupt projectile (Warrior, Ranger, Necro, Engineer, Guardian).

  • Your stealth cannot miss. Therefore, you can’t be countered by: Blind, Aegis, Stability, Invulnerability, a dodge roll.
  • You often port right out of the downed cleave on you, in teamfights, and are in stealth for ez-mode revives. It angers me when I’m cleaving where the Mesmer went down and suddenly I see 2 enemies start reviving their invisible ally .. right behind me, and then it’s too late.

A superior downed state 2 skill, if anything. Get some perspective.

I seem to not deal any damage at all while also being stupid squishy regardless of how I build my character. I’ll run into thieves that deal 75% of my max hp with one back stab and then when I try to do that with a thief, I won’t do nearly as much.

Sounds like you just haven’t mastered Guild Wars 2 combat yet. I recommend you try a build that is extremely forgiving and beefy, while still being a huge threat to squishy players.

You should beat players in hotjoin just by running these builds alone. Better players have often mastered the art of putting down Warriors & Rangers, but like I said, most new players don’t have the experience to deal with the Warrior & Ranger’s passive presence on points.

I would much rather the Rangers on any team I run in, to use Carrion. All the best Rangers in PvP use Carrion. Kind of how all the good Engineers use Rabid. Not Settlers.

As others have said, there is already too much condi spam. This will make the situation even worse.

Why not add a new rune set instead that is anti condi, and includes a way to transfer condis back to the attacker.

We technically already have run set that is anti condi and anti stun (melandru) along with lyssa runes. I’m curious as to how melandru will be adjusted in the upcoming patch.

We also have a sigil that transfers a condition to your enemy on crit (generosity).

Runes of Melandru were flashed in the last Ready Up episode. They were the same as they are, on live.

Well there’s a cool feature in Guild Wars 2 PvP, it’s that all professions are boosted to max stats and level 80 in PvP, so in competitive situatons, you can have multiple professions ready to load right into the battle in order to compensate any perceived weaknesses in your team’s comp.

If you don’t care to switch characters when you need to, you don’t really care that much about winning.

It’s not about winning, it’s about having a balanced match. The game pulls 10 players from a pool of queued people, 3 of them are warriors, and they get placed on the same team. You don’t think that’s a shoddy system that needs to be changed?
Same goes for having 3 thieves, or 3 necros or 3 of anything on one team.

I think the alternative is worse. Here’s why:

  • Development time on making a new algorithm that sorts based on what profession the person is on, at the time.
  • The fact that queue times might be increased, because the system is unable to put people of close MMR in the proper matches because they’re on the same profession, currently.
  • Sorting by Profession is a terrible idea, because the current profession of the person in queue is a low determinant on how good the team will be. Having multiple of each profession is very often not even a negative thing at all. It’s about the role chosen.

If anything, and assuming the programmers found it worthy of increasing the queue time in order for more balanced matches, this is the approach I find to be most suitable for GW2 solo queue problems:

  • Possibly allowing players to select or tick off ‘roles’ of the characters they’re able to play before queueing, IE: I queue up on my Necro, and I’m given the possible roles I am to play: “Roamer, Bunker, or Side Pointer”. If I only play Conditionmancer, then I shall only tick off ‘Roamer.’ If I have a bunker Guardian on swap, or a Decap Engi/Minionmancer or another 1v1 artist, I’ll tick more roles off. This way, you get a perfectly balanced group that may have two Guardians, two Necros, or whatever.

TLDR, if you’re going to increase queue times by sorting by more stats for the people in queue, at least sort by markers that will effectively help the group to become balanced.

While i do agree with Chaith on this one, it would be nice if the system didnt allow class stacking in soloq.

The devs have said from square one that this game is supposed to be able to be completed with 5 thieves, 5 Engineers, 5 Elementalists, etc. (Referring to 5man content).

Casual PvP shouldn’t be any different, but seriously.. feel free to switch chars.

You aren’t alone in that. Just because we’re trying to appeal to one type of player does not mean we will ignore the others.

To put a more positive spin on it, it would be nice if there were a “novice tier” of amulet that are all one stat combo, and after you’ve played a while with those you unlock the option to use Amulet + jewel combos that have the same stat total, but allow you to flex that last 10-15% as we see now.

Since you’re already shifting to a starter set of traits and skills with earning additional options later through play (after the player is more versed in the “basics”) perhaps the same philosophy can be applied consistently so it includes gear too?

The community would eat that idea alive – time gated stat combos?

As a veteran PvPer, I welcome this change. Jewels in amulets were never build defining. They never were playstyle altering. Sure, I felt better with 18,832 HP instead of 18,082 HP, but I think I would prefer that creative freedom to be used on Runes and Sigil choices.

Believe it or not, changes that thief needs don’t all revolve around making it an even matchup vs. a Mesmer. Harder counters exist than Thief > Berserker Mesmer.

Engi counters thief, let’s all cry about engies LOL.

Ye and how many of them care that 50s will get bumped? Everyone who just got their rank by playing the freaking PVP dont care about it that much, its only the PVE farmers who care about rank so much that they are gonna make 5 topics about how they must have unique reward for it.

I see great benefits to making the ranks and achievements achievable, personally I want first and foremost for the game to have more people playing it.

But the small picture issue of rewarding veteran players is also very real and should not be glossed over.

People that hit rank 55 a year ago are relatively few in number, but it’s not a smart idea to tell an MMO player that not only did a year of dedicated gameplay didn’t advance his character in a permament way, but you’ve been actually wittling down the reward chests that everyone else will get on patch day when they get boosted to max rank!

Fair’s fair. Justice should be served, even if it’s the equilivant of a head nod’ from Anet. Call it petty, but that’s the MMO game for you.

It’s much more useful than you’re currently able to utilize it, trust me. But I agree that it is quite under-tuned, for the cooldown.

Cool things I do with it: Glue Shot into Chill/Shrapnel Grenade. Glue Shot into Blowtorch.

It’s also strong when used simultaneously with Box of Nails. A very large deterrent to would be melee attackers. An AoE circle is inherently nice.

A really cool suggestion that’s been extremely popular would be for Glue Shot/Bomb grant Stability for Allies for the duration. Get it? The glue literally preventing friendly units from being blown around by sticking them in place. C wat they did ther?

As another suggestion, I would suggest it gets bumped up to a 2 second immobilize, base. And perhaps stack 2 seconds of cripple per second, base. (Instead of 1)

I play your build and watch your streams so I see what you do with it but unfortunately english is not my native language. What does glue shot into blowtorch mean? Glue shot has a very long travel time and same activation time as blowtorch so blowtorch is over before the glue shot impact.

Same for chill grenade. I do not get the cool things.

I like your suggestions. I do not want a new pin down.

I am only suggesting you use the Glue Shot immobilize to allow a 100% certainty that a good ability won’t be dodged. 1.25s immobilize is enough!

It’s pretty funny actually

December 10th 2013 : increase initiative regen from 0.75/s to 1/s

2014 : increase every thief skills cost by 1

Heh, yeah, that .25 ini per second was offset by small nerfs to initiative regeneration traits. It was an effort to strengthen the baseline thief, while slightly lessening the importance of initiative regenerating traits.

I mean, going from .75 to 1 per second means that thieves get an additional 1 initiative every 4 seconds. If you are pistol whipping the hell out of a bunch of fools, I think that costing an extra initiative every Pistolwhip is a pretty decent shave to counteract that Initiative buff.

I don’t think what Anet did was THAT silly, I do see a little logic there.

The main problem I want to point out is attacking when in stealth

If the thief hits the target he will get revealed BUT let’s say the enemy has aegis it will first rip off aegis without revealing him -> attacking an enemy out of stealth should always reveal the thief imo

Preferably the same time that summoning a phantasm breaks stealth as well

Evasive Shot Shortbow #3
spammable evade on weaponset -> not sure if I have to explain why this is a bad mechanic
the only difference between flanking strike and evasive shot is that you can’t chain flanking strike which doesn’t make it thaaaat strong.

The chained evading is weird.. I agree. I think it needs a small aftercast where you can poke damage in.

Shortbow autoattack:
Pretty much THE counter on this weaponset vs mesmer
If you dodge on mesmer you leave a clone behind which means dodging is almost useless vs thief because the attack will bounce from the clone to you resulting in mesmer not being able to create a bigger gap between himself and the thief without taking damage – my idea is to make the attack bounce only once

That would negatively affect Thief in a lot of other game modes, as well as other PvP scenarios too. Countering Deceptive Evasion too well is hardly a good enough reason to hit Thief Shortbow that hard.

It doesn’t bounce if it doesn’t connect with your face in the first place! Let me remind you that it was already nerfed from heat-seeking status, and now is much less reliable.

The no-chest bug? That was quite prolonged. And sloppy. I’d say you have a better chance of being an ice cube in hell than getting anything out of that can of worms.

All of my concerns in this thread might be.. less so, shall we say, if the Ladder rewards are actually prestigious like they’re #hyped to be. Time will tell.

inb4 they are as underwhelming as our fantastically implemented game mode: TDM.

You know, just a sloppy map they threw into custom arenas with no competitive support.

If they’re not ready to competitively support the TDM game mode, at least we have the map when it’s ready.

I won’t be satisfied with this Rune in PvP until it’s only worth it if you are running a build that’s focused around doing confusion damage. You know it’s whack if professions without a lick of confusion damage are all about this rune. Nerf or rework the confusion procs.

I mispoke about the achievements, they have been rebalanced as well.

This just keeps getting better. LOL. I am going to reserve judgement until it’s revealed how hard the titles are to get. But… let me tell you, IF everyone gets the Legendary Champion achievement after they go from Rank1 to Rank80 in 3-4 months, I am going to be kittenED..

Legendary Champion: Obtain 14,973,500 rank points.

What a joke, man. Leave the titles alone! Afford the people that earned this ridiculous feat at least a little title under their nameplate.

The PvP community would like a FIX the Titles so people’s accumulated rank points match the actual achievements (thrown off by PvP chest rank rewards).

For example, I have 4,221,500 rank points, but yet I’m not even a Reaper yet, which is earned at 2,973,500 rank points.

If you misspoke on the Readyup, or earlier on this Thread (not sure) could you please Clarify what the Achievements will be balanced around?

No. I interpreted the readyup correctly, as confirmed by the Lesh Prince just now. You start getting champion bags per level up once you hit 81. So no real retroactives. Or, I’d get 10 champ bags if they do do count when I ‘level’ up from 70 to 80.

But I do think that the titles are great. And I thank god that there will be a shred of evidence that I played a decent amount of PvP.

So.. just to add some background, and perspective, I am almost a R71 NA player in sPvP. I am not the hardest-core of hardcore rank farmers, but I have the 200th most Solo Queue wins, and the 20th most Team Queue wins. Marvin sails over me in Team Queue wins by 2.2 times over.

Anyways.. After the December 10th patch came, and added lots of increased Rank Pts for PvPers, I decided it’d be a sweet time to pick up the pace. I was like, rank 68 at the time, or so.

Fast track to now, I am now nearly rank 71, and I’ve accumulated AT LEAST the equilivant of two levels at Rank 70 since December 10th.

That’s in the ballpark of 900,000 glory.

By my calculations, it’s going to be 1,091,500 glory to go from Rank1 to Rank80. Sweet. Wait, I just accomplished 82.5% of the ENTIRE Future PvP Ranking system since the Dec. 10th patch?!

Seriously, … 2 levels of my R70 bracket which I’ve managed to accomplish RECENTLY is the equilivant of 82.5% of the entire dang game.

Look, I understand these numbers if we weren’t getting 1500 freaking Rank pts. per Team Queue win.

Post Rank 80, having 20k rank points per level is fine. You’re just getting a some champion bags, scrolls, and a tome. That’s cool, bro.

But only 1,091,500 glory from a virgin account to a dragon? That’s less than 2 and half levels, for what difficulty I’m used to.

At least throw PvPers some retroactive some champ bags. Personally, I’ve already earned 4,221,500 glory since launch and would have leveled around 3.86 accounts to Dragon already.

Maybe remove the cap on ranks? Personally, I feel like my Rank 237 equilivant account (come April 15th) could use some sort of recognition?

I’d settle for an in-game mail.

i don’t think anyone will take the new alchemy turret trait. imo alchemy is one of the best defensive trees in the game and experimental turrets just can’t compete.

It’s not a selfish trait though, like Alchemy is all about. It’s about the support!

If there was an actual point to bringing turrets (support role) than this would be fine.

Right now, you can’t really use Turrets in a part of any serious role. You can’t roam with them, support with them, or thankfully kill with them.

yes experimental turrets is for supporting, but you need to take turrets. they’re easy to kill, stationary, all around useless and it doesn’t make sense why a turret skill is in the alchemy tree anyway. if it was something like elixirs grant boons to nearby allies in 600 range, then i’d say it would be actually useful. plus it would make sense. elixir trait in the al;chemy tree! elixir b could grant might, h regen, r vigor, s protection, u fury etc. elixir u might actually even be worthwhile. maybe not in pvp still but in pve i could see it.

Like I’ve said before, Turrets aren’t good for anything, in any game mode right now. You can’t roam, support, or kill. There is only minor annoyance CC that’s near useless outside a 1v1. That’s why I proposed some serious support overhauls to the Turret traits in Inventions. Forget moving Turrets, forget ridiculous strong Turret auto-attacks, it’s just better if Turrets are able to provide some good things for allies.

The reason why the Experimental Turrets trait is in Alchemy makes a lot of sense actually. Put it in Inventions? Where would Fortified Turrets go, exactly? There’s 2 Turret Grandmasters coming in, and one Inventions traitline. Alchemy is a defensive/supportive traitline and Experimental Turrets fits that theme of supporting with boons, somewhat well.

I think that two Grandmaster Turret traits was pretty unnecessary, but that’s just me. Either way, they’re going to be added, and it’s not that bad.

If you could do reliable healing to allies with Turrets, then I might see a build like this somewhat working.

^It would take Fortified Turrets and Experimental Turrets. Honestly though, it just seems like a terrible version of a Spirit Ranger. Turret builds will still need a lot of work before they can be a part of a build that actually accomplishes a certain role.

Dropping bombs 60 distance in front of the Engineer would be massively helpful.. Elixir Infused Bombs is truly a headache for the inability to .. move and still be affected by it.

I would just like to direct the conversation back to a broader sense of what playstyle direction each trait line should move towards, as opposed to what coefficients/base damage a certain Kit would have to be for viability.

On an aside, I made all these proposals with the knowledge that many Engineer mechanics can be used in multiple playstyles. I feel the traits should be playstyle enabling as opposed to: ‘must automatically take this trait if I have the corresponding utility’.

For example, if you would like to run Condi Bomb/Nade, then you’d best stay the hell away from my ‘Demolition Specialist’ suggestion. You’d have to give up Grenadier, and the improved power damage from bomb kit wouldn’t benefit as much.

If you would like to run an HgH Condi Flamethrower, or a Condi Grenade/Flamethrower build, stay far away from my ‘Sweltering Heat’ suggestion – Using the Flamethrower’s #1 and #2 abilities are not even worth it.

When I hear the word ‘Pidgeonholed’ I don’t think: “Wow, I use Grenades and I’m forced to trait the Grenades, or I’ll be bad. How awful!” I think: “Wow, every good build uses Grenades as the main source of damage, why can’t I use other things as the main source of damage successfully?!”

I am all about your proposal for the Flame Thrower. I think the turret idea is nice but a little would need to be shaved off of the healing imo or the benevolent thing would work if the Engi wasn’t affected by the bonus. In fact, I like the idea of making it like Benevolent Healing.

Sometimes I wish they would leave things considered “OP” by the solo queue crowd (me) alone and bring some of the other lines up to snuff with those to give players more viable options. I just want build options. It’s a stark contrast to GW1, where I had dozens of viable options in RA for each class. Some less than others, but we had way more options for each profession in that game.

Heh, yeah, I hope that we see many more options available to each profession. That is totally what I am going for, with the Engineer’s trait proposals. There will always be one archetype that’s superior in certain game modes, IE: Power/Condi Nade teamfight carry in sPvP – but right now you have plenty of freedom with utilities outside of Grenade kit and Healing Turret when you’re fulfilling that teamfight grenade carry role. It’s cool, but it’s not enough.

Like I said before, I am slightly fatigued with only being the grenade teamfight carry when I sPvP. Sometimes I would like to actually do well in teamfights with a Power Flamethrower, or as Power Bombs. Or do well in teamfights by building for support.

The thing about Engineer Support is that Engineers do most of their support just through the native Supply Crate and Healing Turret. Every Engineer in sPvP has a ‘minor’ in support, but the options to ‘major’ in it are pretty much non-existent. I think Benevolence type healing is the key here.

I’m actually worried about the turret traits for PvP. We really need to see less AI spam in this game, not more. I’d like to see turrets, spirits, and minions all nerfed, not buffed.

I’m also worried about turrets providing boons. Are all turrets on the same cooldown schedule, or do I get 1 boon for every turret up? If one boon per turret, that could be way over the top.

I’m one to agree that sustained A.I DPS in PvP is cancerous, IE, attempting to react to the passives but I feel that if that is just not possible from Turrets anymore, since all the damaging conditions from Turrets were removed. (Except Flame Turret).

When traited with the new Alchemy Grandmaster, Experimental Turrets, dropping a Turret will instantly grant the associated boon. Every 10s, each boon will fire again. So each turret grants a boon every 10s, totally independently.

Edit: I don’t think that this Trait will be gamebreaking in PvP. What build will use this to good effect? Decap Engineers would give up Automated Response, so that would be a nerf so unfathomable to how good people can survive, who can’t play Engineer well.

I imagine that the content that’s due on April 15th, ie, the new grandmasters Grandmasters are probably locked, as they’re in the final stage of polish.

Anet has gotten tons of Feedback based around improving turret utility and supporting Gadgets, so, seeing two Turret and a Gadget grandmaster surely makes it seem like feedback is taken into account. Unfortunately, there are still no real builds forming quite yet.

Matchmaking and queue times

Watched the Chaithh steam 5min ago and he is no. 4 NA soloQ and was matched with a rank 1 and rank 10 player in one team. So I guess they have serious problems with the queue.

That’s not a serious problem. It works as intended. Higher you are, worst teammates you are supposed to get. You should have some disadvantage.

Well thank god that it actually doesn’t work like that.

Having a top 10 Solo Q MMR should mean that I should be playing with and against veteran or above average players. It does not mean that the top 10 MMR player is intended to be captain of the noob ship, while the other team gets all average players.

What you mean to say is that amongst the 5 people on each side, who are all at as closest MMR bracket as possible, each team has the same number of players on the ‘high end’ of the bracket as there are on the ‘low end’ of the bracket.

What occasionally happens: The range in the ‘bracket’ of MMRs on a single team range from #4 NA, to #unranked, first day PvPing. This is a problem, not intended design.
