It’s not even limited to pulls.

I overcharge shot somebody, and they get stopped by an object, EXTREMELY OFTEN, they will flicker back and forth between either side of said object while they’re knocked down. The game basically auto-dodges all of your attacks for them. It’s super facepalm worthy when you are trying to land your well deserved combo on someone who’s supposed to be STILL.

  1. Static Discharge – Is the build itself OP? No. But the fact that someone who I just CCed can possibly spike me for upwards of 7.5k is kinda stupid (Fire 1.5k, Air 1.5k, SD 1.5k, Surprise Shot 1.5k, Analyze SD 1.5k = 7.5k).

You know that SD Engineer is pretty much just the hobosack peasant version of the S/F Fresh Air Ele? Surprise Shot & Analyze vs. Air Swap, Air 2, Arcane Wave? Not even close.

It may be stupid, but ‘stupid, instant burst’ is the only thing that’s keeping multiple character archetypes alive. They require the user to be fully devoted to zerker amulet, and are typically complete man mode to sustain yourself while using them.

Long live the bursties, imo. None of them are OP and making them easily read is going to simply toss them in the trash. Obviously, I would be all for a re-balance that keeps the playstyle alive, and at the same time makes the abilities dodge-able. But I think it’s just easier to leave it!

Yes. There was an idea regarding PvP roadmap, for April 15 Feature Pack, to remove ranks and add ladders within long PvP seasons, with special rewards for each season. But this idea was officially abandoned on December-2-2013 because customers (aka players) requested it multiple times on forums.

UPDATE: Due to overwhelming player response, we have decided to keep ranks in PvP. We will be looking at rebalancing later tiers to make them more achievable. Because we will be keeping the rank system, at this time we are no longer planning to move rank finishers to ladders, create alternate rank finishers, or award special legacy titles. Thank you to all the players who provided their feedback and came out in favor of keeping ranks.

Personally I liked the idea of removing ranks and creating seasons, but I did not scream about it on forums simply because I liked it.

There is something fundamentally wrong with your post, and it’s saying that ladders have been abandoned because ranks and finishers won’t be in it.

There is nothing to suggest that is the case. Don’t try and convince people that the entire project was abandoned and tossed because there’s a post saying that Ranks were separated. You can’t possibly know that!

Hah. Yeah that was one of the worst de-syncs that I have ever saw.

When casting magnet, the following things happen:

  • Ranger gets yanked back about 300 distance.
  • Ranger goes forward about 300 distance.
  • One agonizingly long full second later, after your blowtorch and all other moves miss, (attempts to hit him in previous position) he appears at the original magnet destination.
  • Cry because your gank was entirely ruined for no reason.

because the change does not address the problem with the stuns. they deal too much damage for how effective they are. and no it is not a l2p problem but it is just sad when i have to stare at small asuras trying to see all the animations.

adren loss on miss is okay and human stereotype models too, although not for soloQ, but that’s 1/3 hammer stuns. against a hambow you have to dodge 5 skills which he can use in a window of 10 seconds with a cooldown of 10-20 seconds while you get 1 dodge every 10 seconds.

want to kite a warrior? np zerk stance. want to knock one down? np dolyak/balanced stance. even soft cc is not effective because of dogged march.

the amount of effort it takes for you to kill a hambow compared to vice versa is just wrong. believe it or not, try to defend warriors as much as you want but it is the truth.

Just stop your over-analysis and wait 10 days. Lots of what you’re saying is crap too. Only one dodge every 10 seconds to stop a Hambow burst.. woe is you.

Warriors are beatable 1v1. However, they’re never beatable if you’re too bad to duel for 30-60 seconds before dying, this is due to the nature of stances. They’re like a brick wall that discourages new to medium experience players. Lots of games have roles that boost your combat ability off the ground even if you haven’t really mastered it yet.

Playing Warrior is indeed a bit of a free pass to either survive a few mistakes, or survive for a fair amount of time. There is no instant punishment of death for being bad, as there would be for a Thief/Mesmer.

However, once a player masters their defensive positioning and dodges a few Earthshakers, you’ll find that Warriors have just as hard a time killing you than you will have by killing them.

Post-patch, when playing at a mastered level of skill, a player will read the standardized model Warrior’s combos and react to them. Since the change to cleansing Ire is going in, it’s like a double whammy to the Warrior’s 1v1 matchup prospects, which will then be average.

Hugely a l2p problem, sorry. It’s hugely rewarding to dodge an Earthshaker, Staggering Blow, Backbreaker or Pin Down.

Even more so when they will lose adrenaline and NOT proc Cleansing Ire.

Why are you even making this thread right before the big changes to Warrior are coming in September? /Facepalms infinite times

You’re downplaying the ability to have stability on Tome option back.

Have more than 5 buffs, and your stability becomes un-corruptable. Corrupt isn’t what it used to be.

Pretty much the only mechanic you have to not eat while you’re using Tome, is a Thief’s 21s Steal.

It doesn’t seem like it will be hard to successfully full heal your allies if you have any decent timing.

I would support interacting with targets while using a Tome, though.

The amount of frustration a Thumper/Flame turret combo (that is also providing 5 stacks of might and 5 seconds of protection every 10 seconds to allies in the area) is kind of amazing for general defense, the ability to throw them turns you into a battlefield mastermind.

Well, not to be picky, but it’s 3 stacks of might for 10 seconds, and 3 seconds of protection. You’d need +66% increase to protection to get 5 seconds, where Alchemy only gives 30%.

Also, let’s say that I really DO like Thumper and Flame Turret combo, and being a battlefield mastermind with AoE Boons. I can still get all that and actually run a full power condition build that can AoE condi-wreck things, and still duel well.

Boom. Sacrificing points in Inventions, even with Turrets, takes the build’s performance to the next level.

To tie back in to the original post, the Protective Shield vs. Stabilised Armor debate simply comes down to whether you are expecting to encounter enemies who depend on long duration stuns/KDs to land burst, or face enemies who simply tear into you like Thieves and Mesmers.

The debate of whether an Engineer should be in Inventions at all, if he’s aiming to be the most effective, is definitely a more interesting topic, which apparently there are some varied opinions :P

Part of being an engi is engineering your own build, I have seen some seriously (and even come up witha few) wacky engi builds and the only thing that really separates any of them is skill/understanding their skills and their opponents.

Very true.

Fortunately, Engineers that are great at running kit based builds well are on a tier well high and above Engineers that are great at running turret builds.

You can thank the hobbit-sized skill ceiling of turrets for that.

its just a little perk along the way to getting power shoes & the heal reset.

The heal reset provides endless instances of severe trolling.

The 90 second cooldown really prevents ‘endless’ instances of trolling, but it’s a solid 15pt trait.

Also you’re saying that 25% speed increase, 3 seconds of prot every 20s, and static turret damage is so great for condition Engineers?

I’m sure it can do the trick sometimes but..

Why would you ever need Protective Shield over Protection Injection or Invigorating Speed – while you’re simply on the way to getting godly traits like Transmute and Backpack Regenerator?

Why would you ever need 25% speed increase when you have 33% speed increase for less investment?

Why would you need a base damage increase on turret auto attacks when you’re running a condition build?

Instead, try investing all of those 6 points in Inventions into Explosives and destroy everything?

Inventions won’t be worth taking in condi builds until it becomes at least situationally better at surviving than Alchemy will, point for point. So far, Alchemy wins out. Explosives is pretty much a must, too. Firearms and Inventions are the poor man’s Explosives and Alchemy, respectively.

0/0/6/6/2 is only going to really work for a build that either doesn’t need offense (pure support/bunker), or derives it’s damage purely from A.I turrets.

What game mode do you want to do with this build? I’m just assuming you’re not aiming to PvE in GW2 with a condition stat and support focused build.

For PvP, or WvW roaming, you will really be hurting in your small skirmishes. Definitely don’t 1v1 anybody running a meta-build. If you can put up with that, and focus primarily on WvW mid to large scale fights, then I say play what makes you happy.

I could offer a suggestion if you are truly looking to take a condi-support role in sPvP or WvW that is without grenades, and uses the E-Gun to a high capacity!

^Embrace the kits and Healing Turret over Elixirs. Healing Turret especially has gotten so much stronger after launch that it makes Elixir H and Elixir traits obsolete.

Support: Healing Turret provides more overall support through the big 2520 heal and water blast every 20s, as well as regen, and extra water blasts. Healing Turret alone out-supports throwing all of the dang Elixirs at your allies, unfortunately.

Survivability: With a Healing Turret, Shield offhand, traited Tool Kit, Backpack Regenerator, more reliable vigor than from throwing Elixir H… this build is an un-killable kittenroach compared to the one you are using.

Damage/Pressure: With 7 second burns on your Elixir Gun poke, Bomb Kit conditions, Tool Kit pulls & Conditions, the pressure you can put out is simply tripled, as opposed to having one kit and no Incendiary Powder.

TL;DR, Elixirs consume an entire build and leave it pillaged of anything good. Switch to Healing Turret and practice multi-kit plays, even if you don’t like nades. Customize as you see fit!

Yeah, Rocket Boots and Gear Block are good alternatives to a Thief’s instant teleports and stealth, but SD Berserker Engineer will remain poison-less, fragile, and whose burst is more easily foiled’ than a thief. Dealing with a crowd is much harder on an Engineer, too. I think the better QoL for WvW roaming won’t shift from berserker thief to berserker Engineer.. ever. Meanwhile, there are some other really competitive Engineer builds.

The Future of Engi meta

For a conquest build, what you’re actually going to get countered by, is immobilize and a thief assisted quick swap.

When the steal takes your prot, and you have no Gear Shield, or Elixir S, you are pretty much left with a 40s cd Static Shield to save yourself.

Also, 1v1s on this build will be much weaker than the current meta builds. Losing Incendiary Powder is a huge loss. I know you’re going to say: “But look at all the other burning I have in the build”. Unfortunately, that burning is no-where as difficult to counter as Incendiary Powder, and it will be countered.

Fire Bomb isn’t reliable enough in 1v1s, and Incendiary Ammo only requires one condi-clear every 54 seconds to negate.

I think that the might stacking will indeed, be pants-on-head silly, but I do not think that people are struggling with that, currently – with Warriors, Guardians, and Eles in team fights.

The build will be good when Flame Blast becomes a finisher, but I think it will become a viable option, rather than the future Meta build.

Are you sure that Static Discharge does not have burst damage?

There’s also 100mines which definitely has burst damage and can still easily 100-0 people.

The problem is that SD and 100mines are very much 1v1 builds and they have very little teamfight presence; and their utility is eclipsed by Kit builds which require less traiting to be effective and in general have less opportunity cost. Other than that, Engi burst is still very much alive, just as Bearbow double melee Ranger is alive, or Killshot Warrior or 1-hand strength Med Gurd or Zerker Fresh Air Ele with double/triple Arcane is alive.

People like this make me want to stream even though my computer can’t handle it. This is a terrible build for static discharge and I have never seen anyone play it to its fullest potential. So many videos are put out where engineers drop elite1v1, get the jump from stealth 1v1 and pair it with hardcore dubstep/deathmetal music as if they were doing something difficult. Please learn how to create good builds, manage cds and utilize combo fields.

It seems your main point is that you are superior in your ability to create good Engineer builds.

Don’t you think it’s kind of silly to make that point when ‘good builds’ and full power Engineer are contradictory? All strictly power builds are alternatives to the better, more viable ones.

7 second burn that ticks for 600+ is equal to an autoattack? Can you name me one class that can autoattack for 4200 from range?

Again im not saying its overpowered im just saying theres very little thinking behind most engineers builds because of IP.

They wanna make the game more skill based and still havent deleted such passive traits with very little counter play.

There’s very little thinking behind saying that Incendiary Powder is a 4200dmg auto attack..

To explain it in a way that you can understand better, how about you compare an Engineer spamming pistol 1 over ten seconds (with Incendiary Powder), to another profession spamming 1 over ten seconds? Ranger Shortbow, Mesmer Greatsword, etc.

You’ve already mentioned one of the biggest ones, in my humble opinion. AFK players resulting in 4v5s in Solo Queue, (and team switchers in hotjoin) – uneven teams are a huge source of player frustration.

For Solo Queue, the Skyhammer Map which is all too commonly seen is a huge black mark on the reputation of Solo Queue gameplay. Nearly all abandon the combat system that GW2 is balanced around, and instead use the ‘insta kill people from stealth, gg, no downed state’ combat system.

Rotating properly in Solo Queue is made extremely difficult for the average player to intuitively grasp – this is because in-game communication isn’t supported with voice commands or any advanced signals so as to not rely on ‘calling numbers’ through a VOIP application. It’s a needle in a haystack to find multiple people on a team that show up where they need to be, consistently.

There are a few other relatively important issues with Hotjoin and Solo Queue, but these are my biggest ones.

Fact is, people only used Elixir R for the rez most of the time anyway. Only a few people, like you and me, use it for condi cleanse.

The condi cleanse IS used to rez. If you take away the condi cleanse, it will be worse as a reviving tool, when it’s used to revive. Keeping poison and damaging conditions that slow down the revive directly makes the revive faster and more effective.

You can’t say: ‘Do you want to rez, or do you want to cleanse?’

It’d be more like: ‘Do you want to reduce how well you can rez in order to get a separate, improved cleanse option?’

I’m all for making Elixir C competitive, but not at the expense of Elixir R, when you can really change Elixir C in any other way.

As a thief you have enough tools to prevent a rifle warrior from hitting anything other than air, pretty much indefinitely, unless you make a mistake.

So tighten your game, and stop entering a comatose, vegetable like state in-game where you get kill shotted and take 3 volley hits right after.

This is an un-changeable part of GW2. The only way around this is to have tabs on all 5 enemy teammates, or at least the ones likely to back-cap you at home.

You have not a hope in hell of finding that out, GLHF. Keep your head on a swivel and make sure you don’t IMMEDIATELY get back-capped and that’s the best that you can do.

So is capping and going mid is the best option of the 2 and kitten the naysayers?

Capping and going somewhere else to be useful but not over-rotating is, in general, a slightly less probable way to make your team really mad at you. Like, 60% of the time, it’s better to leave home and swing your weight around winning other fights, or, if you run a really dumb side-point A.I build or something similar, go far if nobody is contesting your home point.

But the other 40% there is somebody consistently and predictably coming to your home-point and trying to either fight you or free cap the point, and you know that you can probably get a fight on that capped point soon, then for god’s sake, stay on that point.

Let me re-iterate one big thing.

If you leave home, make sure you don’t over-rotate somewhere – the exception being if you are extremely fast and bursty.

i think what eurantien is saying is skyhammer and spirit watch are different because a full team of orb runners will lose, a full team of knockback classes will win.

Yeah, that’s possible, but I think with Spirit Watch it’s complicated.

For the sake of this comparison, let’s say one team has a dedicated orb runner and attempts to get him to continuously run the orb, where the other team plays pure conquest.

In theory, if the orb running team team wastes a player by frivolously running orbs, the other team can play 3 points and dominate the conquest points in the map. But think that it will be much harder to win that 3 point strat than it would be for the other team with a Rifle, E-gun, Rocket Boots & Super Speed (Soldiers) Engineer to run orbs.

The ball is definitely in the court of the players focusing on playing 3 points and winning.

As an alternate strategy, the team that was running pure conquest could worry a little bit about the orb – dedicateing a player into interrupting the enemy team from picking up the orb. That player’s potential is extremely reduced. There goes your one-man-up advantage, for the most part. It would work extremely well if this guy could 1v1 the enemy orb runner every time, but unless he was going to run the orb himself, by the time he got back to a fight, the enemy orb runner would be capturing it again. Darn. If he did run the orb, he would be slow, and the orb team could even turn the orb around.

Remember that if a team even holds one one point, with un-interrupted orb running, that team beats the other team with a 2 cap. If the orb capturing is interrupted, that runner can beat anyone to a point and neutral it (except a thief) – the orb runner has a double ability. Then he can book it back to the orb and capture it while the defender is re-capturing the neutral point.

It’s super complicated and I don’t think the advantage is clearly in the favor of the team playing pure conquest, with a 3 point strat. With a clever orb runner and a bunkery comp that can keep one point capped, the strat can be really hard to counter.

Besides, if they want to dedicate a guy to orb running, it’s a 4v5 and if you play 3 nodes you win the game through pure conquest.

Not necessarily.. the orb runner could rotate in to fights and drop some pain and turn the tide as well. It wouldn’t be as guaranteed a pure conquest win as it seems.

Yeah, the De-Sync between server and client are extremely bad in GW2 – specifically for push/pull skills. I have no clue how they got past the initial PvP/WvW Quality Assurance guys.

Okay so i’m looking for a build of any profession with which i could kill a turret engi, but here’s the thing, i’m not looking for a broken op build like turret engi is it self, i’m looking for something fun that would actually demand skill to be played with, thanks!

I suggest you just run an extremely stability heavy modified Warrior build that has heavy cleave, and decent condition application.

Something like this:

Pros:

-53% duration to immob from the Engineer’s Net Shot & Turrets

High power for causing damage to gadgets (turrets).

Way too much stability in order to prevent being interrupted by turret knockbacks & Rifle/Crate stun.

The Engineer will no doubt sit right in the Combustive Shot all day – he’ll be near permanently burning and poisoned a fair amount from doom sigil, with the trademark Engineer low-condi-removal.

Cons:

You only have to be good enough to land your Impale and Eviscerate once and a while. If the Engineer outplays you, he could potentially still survive a long time.

Strat:

Be super aggressive towards popping turrets that are a threat (Rocket, Rifle, Flame, Net). Arcing Arrow/Axe1111 all the things with huge stability, and quickly wear the Engineer down with hybrid damage – burn, torment, poison, and AoE spam. There’s just no way in hell that your Warrior will die to an Engineer with bad condition (poison) application and no burst, so your victory’s speed will depend on how good you are at landing eviscerates/Impale (or hammer combos if you go the other route).

In my opinion, you only really have a problem with the map mode when there is an ability to build in a way that abuses unique map features.

  • Running Orbs ridiculously fast in a useless ‘runner’ build.
  • Insta-killing targets through the floor panels in a useless ‘stealth & pull’ build.

If the map features were of relatively equal tactical advantage to everybody, regardless of build, then you have a map that works fine, IMO.

I understand that losing stealth will affect SA and stealth attacks. But if they are applicable while in dodge stance exactly the same as with stealth then it would not make a difference.

It came to light that some traits are triggered by dodge. Instead of dodge without using endurance, how about “successful hits are reduced to glancing damage”? Is this more fair?

Ok, sweet. So now when I face a ‘shadow arts’ thief on my condi class, he uses all of his stealth abilities and makes it so I can only achieve glancing hits. Whelp, time to wreck him in 2.5 seconds with condi-burst.

This is a pretty poor idea, haha. It would entirely break all the traits that interact with dodging, and just generally break every stealth trait/ability.

Who wants to play against a thief who pops ‘shadow refuge’ in combat and proceeds to dodge roll 20 times back and forth, and end the effect with all their endurance, initiative and cooldowns to dodge another 20 times?

seriously why does heavy armor class can outrun every class while having everything?

I wouldnt complain about warrior having high hp/high tough and high power but they have some crazy burst mobility that other classess hardly chase down..

such unfair..

Sorry if this has been said.. but, the assumption that ‘heavy armor’ has any relationship with top land speed is just silly.

Also, greatsword Warriors do not ‘have it all’. They pay a hefty price for equipping that mobility. Considering 3 popular Warrior weapons across all game modes, Longbow, Hammer, and Greatsword, it’s like this:

PICK TWO: A.) Your condition removal/damage, or B.) Your control, or C.) Your mobility.
