Mobile Gunner Warrior?

That build is still fine to use. I suggest after you get used to playing the game you can mend your style of play to change certain things to your taste (like traits/armors/utilities) and still have the same fundamental foundation of that build, which is to shoot from afar (do lots of damage) and then hope out of things when stuff goes wrong with sword/warhorn.

I made a Hammer/Sword-Shield WvW build, which many have liked the foundation of the builds ideas, but prefer running GS or sword-warhorn as their second set for mobility. Or use a endure pain instead of signet of stamina, it depends on you. Dont be worried to explore in GW2 as its very easy to change traits around (gear takes a bit longer, but its not too bad).

I can’t go 10 into discpline without feeling kitten that 5 more points gives fast hands =\
Been so used to switching weapons constantly that it feels wrong if the cooldown is more than 5 seconds T.T

Tomorrow I will have to get on and check for myself. Either way, the burst combo still works but if the runes aren’t affecting stuns I can swap them out for some crit damage runes.

I think unsuspecting foe is becoming more likeable when cavalier gear got released since it allows for a tanky/burst spec to be viable in certain places. Which is far more enjoyable than the glass cannon dps specs. I made a Hammer Build In which i use, that really suits my style of a Warrior.

Yes the Cooldowns of On hit and swap do share same cooldown, and no, it will not proct together if both mainhand and offhand crit. It judges the first Hand first and then second hand. So if you got two of the same sigil for on hit when crit, It will check the first sigil, and then check second if first did not proc.

Yeah that build would be a Juggernaut at that level that level of attack and defense.
The build would work great for WvW, PvP & higher level fractal’s where HB is useless

But PVE, Dungeon’s and 1-20 level FOTM Sustained DPS with 100% crit looks to be the best for bosses.

Completely Agree with this. I might make a second build that revolves around 100% crit so that you can have reliable crits for sigil procs and what not. As for WvW, This hammer build has served me well, And I continue to use it because of how much fun it is to smash into a group of enemies and burst them down with 2 attacks and run out before any serious crazy crap happens =P

Does runes of the mesmer really work with stuns? I tried a couple of times in PvP for both earthshaker/shield bash/skull crack. Only pummel smash really worked for the increased duration for me >.>

Anyways, I figure with Defense banner giving 900+ hp, and perhaps a % increase from WvW bonus could possibly bump 10%? = about 3.5k hp? and then another 40 from perhaps a guild buff from the keep? I think you can’t get that 40k hp Unless there was a Npc Captain around giving you the extra HP. Or you literally went all Shaman gear up the wazoo….

The thing i dont understand with crit damage cs crit chance is that having 100% crit chance 100% of the time gets me almost the same DPS but more often. so in the long run i’m doing more damage vs bosses

14-26k HB on 60%cri 100%crit chance 3100 Armore farming cursed shore, i also get 2500 Damage on my single GS swings every time and massive damage on my Rifle all while an effective Effective Power of 4500.

This is a WvW Build where sustain Dps is not =/= Burst dps. Dungeons/PvE is different.
Knowing that you got 100% crit chance on a certain skill is alot more reliable and easier to determine how much dmg you can do to a target in clutch situations.
This Build is for AOE dps/CC, with Stun/Knockdown support, and abilities to duel aswell.

Thats a really nice build but when the thing your fighting isn’t stunned your crit chance drops to 22% .. that’s really bad! your whole build requires your foe to be stunned otherwise it is a low/Midrange DPS tank build. given your attacks crit only 22% of the time

Signet of rage is 33s of fury on a 48 second cooldown. Giving another 20% crit chance for a good 2/3 of the time, which makes it more about 42% crit chance normally, the second build has 30% crit chance with 48 seconds of buffs from signet of rage, giving it 50% crit chance all the time.

In the first build, sword automatically has 10% critchance from trait, so its always 32% minimum with a 33 second window of 50+% crit chance and becomes 100% when opponent is stunned. Between shield bash and Earthshaker, Its possible to stun the opponent long enough to get 2 hits per skill, = 100% crit chance, and most likely will kill your target. The stunned part seems very niche, but since Hammer warriors don’t got sustain dmg through their skills (no hundred/whirlwind/axe auto) when your burst is down, you normally are healing/dodging/applying CC/kiting/chasing. Its a burst build with a given window. More reliable dmg can be obtained using the second build.

Albeit that its true bleeding may be easy to appear/be on an enemy. I remember back in the first month or so of launch, Someone proved that 50% bleed duration increases your dmg output more than rendering strikes, But I personally think its almost the same since it varies with the amount of times you crit and hit an opponent and who else is hitting that target. In terms of usefulness, I think rendering might better in terms of adding other conditions to hamper the opponent.

Only reason I switched from Norn to Human was because the animation of sword attacks from Norn compared to Human was Horrendous. If your not gonna use Sword, then I would Say Norn/Char

I agree. It looks so stupid.

Fortunately, Sword isn’t all that great on Warriors. Its good for Savage Leaping to your target and then switching to another weapon, but that’s really it.

Yea swords utility is mostly the leap/cripple. But I found using unsusupecting foe with shield bash prior to two auto-attacks from the main hand sword can result in a guaranteed final thrust right after the bash for a guaranteed heavy attack, which can be good with any build that utilizes that trait, like hammer builds.

I feel like Scholar Works only for Rifle/Longbow Warriors at best. Melee warriors won’t have their hp above 90% for too long, just like Defense Trait 5, 100 toughness above 90% isn’t gonna help that much (about 3% dmg reduction on the first hit, and then the rest will just melt you away)

Mystic is much easier to make then Destroyer. The recipe cost to forge them is different + their looks.

Hi Coaxial,
I’ve been running the 2nd build you posted in a thread you posted (ignoring that it said that’d be your last build… guess the warrior itch is too strong?) and having great fun with it in wvwvw. Slowly swapping my knights set to berserker, so can’t wait to see more improvement from that too!
One thing I would say is how vital I’ve found the leg specialist in tactics 10 for immobilizing; slamming the #3 hammer skill to make sure earthshaker land helps prevent it being dodged. I’ll add though that I play from China with a fairly high latency, so perhaps that’s an issue there.
I also didn’t realize you could put shield pash in between the sword swings – great tip to maximize that final slash.
Lastly, while I realize this is very much a ‘smash & grab’ build, I feel you’ll find conditions to be too big of an issue. We seem to have quite similar play styles, and while diving into enemies I sometimes leave with as many red symbols on top of my head as an immune supply camp claimer, and find shake it off to be vital (and my knights still has soldier runes, so FGJ remove them too). Perhaps remove signet of stamina? If you’re getting back to your zerg, you may not have enough time for the endurance regen to fill back up for the extra dodge.

Overall though, I love this build, and have been having great fun jumping into groups of enemies and decimating them; feels far more satisfying than frenzy/100b/whirlwind

Thanks, and yes the Warrior Itch is too strong =P. I feel that Signet of Stamina is Mandatory because the increased endurance regen + condition wipe has saved me way too many times while im Escaping. Shake it Off is a nice trade off as well if you wish for an instant condition removal during combat since its not interrupting anything But I feel 1 condition removal every 25 seconds isn’t sufficient in WvW. Perhaps with Mending, it may work decently. And yes, I feel Leg Specialist is Great with Hammer Shock/Hamstring in giving more control over an enemies movement, I just found that using 25 into Arms does allow for Slightly greater dmg output and Defense, but You miss out on longer sustain dmg, and Leg specialist. I have yet to see if the 1k+ effective power and 3k more health is worth the trade off.

Yea the Shield Block doesn’t interrupt the auto attack chain of your main Hand skill if you combo it correctly, which makes it far more reliable to achieve Heavy dmg even with sword. = This isn’t working =( ; Anet please make auto attack chain not reset after using a weapon skill T.T

The Effect of guaranteed Earthshaker to Crit against 5 targets in WvW Feels very satisfying and Effective (sometimes able to down 2-3 people almost instantly after an Earthshaker + Staggering Blow) then going Hundredblade/Frenzy/Whirlwind, Although Whirlwind is Beast move for Warriors.

I would run 2 monk + 2 water +2 ruby orbs instead of altruism for runes

That is Fine as well, although I find Altruisms tier 1 effect (3 might stacks for 10 seconds = 16 seconds with 60% boon duration, everytime you heal) gives 105 power/condition to 5 other players as well, to be more effective in group combat.
2 Monk/Water and 2 Ruby orbs would give stronger individual damage tho.

Im sorry for not adding a video, as I should. Currently having a hard time getting fraps to work properly, and for internet connection to be solid as College internet connection can get laggy during peek hours when I am free. So I theory Crafted a Build which I wish to pursue once I can achieve the gears required for it and I believe its the best min/max Set for me. Its to gain as much Defense/Vit while Still having The Glass Cannon burst (for small periods) for Maximum Damage.
By utilizing Unsuspecting Foe and the ease of obtaining Fury for Warriors, I figured I could Make a build that would Suit my Taste.

This build Allows me to avoid getting gear with Precision completely (except for runes) and obtain over 50% crit chance with sword, and 40% with Hammer, but Allows for Instant Crit on Earthshaker (50% unsuspecting foe + 10% crit chance for burst skills), and using shield bash to get the guaranteed third hit with sword (which can hit as high as 5k if it crits) by auto attacking twice into a shield bash and then Final Thrust from Sword auto Attack.(1) Around 40% damage reduction with 23k health, 90%~ crit dmg. If opponent is bleeding, Earthshaker will gain 52% dmg Increase (12% from Berserker Power, 10% from Sigil of impact, 25% for Hammer Trait, and 10% from Attack of Opportunity) Which can result in 7k Earthshakers with ease. Shield Bash would be a guarantee crit (can deal about 3-3.5k crits) and Final Thrust can deal about 5k crit.

(1) = Apparently This does no work the way I had thought it did, but With Shield Bash you can still effectively hit the first two auto attacks during the stun duration which is close enough to final thrusts guaranteed crit dmg. Hopefully Anet can see this as a way to make use of the abilities which warriors are given by not resetting the auto attack chain if u use another weapon ability. Unsuspecting foe should also work on targets that are stunned/knockbacked/blowout, but only works on stun, which imo is a terrible design.

The Build Revolves around Burst Damage in 2-3 hits and then Sustain dmg in between when opponent is not stunned. I would switch 5 from arms into discipline to obtain mobile strikes when I feel immobilize will be an issue. Your main Dps will be during signet of Rages uptime (30 sec window with 18 sec downtime). Its a bit of a Jump in, do as much dmg without dying, and then jump out till Signet of Rage is up Again kind of build.

Note: I would switch Valkyrie Weapons with Cavalier weapons perhaps, although they are much harder to come by. I still don’t know which would be more appealing or effective.

If you feel you wouldn’t mind losing the small dmg burst gain, and would like a longer lasting Build in terms of sustain dps, and group ability, This set up can be easily switched to this:

You gain 60% boon duration for 95% uptime on Swiftness/Fury/5 stacks of Might, but lose about 1k effective power and about 2.5k hp and 1-2% damage reduction. This will be a bit better for Group fights, giving Leg specialists abilities and the more sustained dmg.
Also its Cheaper to buy (Divinity Runes mad expensive =\)

Tell me what you guys think, or what improvement can be made to make the best overall WvW, Hammer/sword-shield Build.

Edit: Added a Third Build that would theoretically do more dmg in initial burst than other builds mentioned in 5 second period (using lyssa runes) /empowered) just for those who are super rich and wanted to try a fun build that basically runs on the initial burst in zerg warfare and then jumps out to wait for another jump in/burst and cycle.

With empowered/lyssa runes (theoretically can obtain up to 18% damage increase, but since Aegis normally falls off real fast ill call it 16%) you can get up to 63% dmg increase on Earthshaker (16% empowered/lyssa runes + 12% berserker power + 25% Hammer Trait + 10% sigil of impact) and Staggering blow + hammershock following (guaranteed crit because of stun) can easily Burst over 14k dmg on 5 targets. Which is Great burst in Zerg fights/group skirmishes. But this build will depend much more heavily on Signet of rages activation to chain with lyssa and its small window of 5~ seconds.

25/25/0/0/20 I think would give you the most dps if you dodge alot, since it automatically gives 50 more power, and 3-4% more damage without full endurance bar (forgot if its 3/4%).
Either way. I think the might on weapon swap is only 1 stack for 10 sec, which isn’t too much compared to a permanent increase in 50 power and 3-4% extra dmg while your endurance isn’t full, which effectively is a lot more. the 5% crit damage would depend on your crit chance.

Cavalier/Zerk IMO gives best dps/defense ratio, especially for hammer builds that use unsuspecting foe. Hitting stunned targets literally means getting 50% crit chance
~1050 precisions for free (1% is about 21 or so precision). Also since obtaining perma fury for warriors is so easy, and with highest base health, a full zerk would lose to a cavalier/zerk geared warrior.

Both had ascended Berserker trinkets.
Do you even play the builds or are you just passing off theorycrafting as what you’re doing?

Edit: Of course i didnt get accesories yet, but I plan to aim for full cavalier trinkets.

Sadly Cavalier only exist on Trinkets, If it was on armor as well, I could optimize for more maximal stats, but as of now, its the only place I can grab crit dmg and toughness in one package

Boons = OP class

With full soldier gear, warriors can get at most 45% dmg reduction.

Mind you a Glass zerk with just base armor would get 13% dmg reduction and protection boon gives 33% which stacks additively. So a total of 46% dmg reduction for any other class who has access to protection and can still go full zerk and is heavy armor(guardian). Light armor offers 8.5% damage reduction, and medium is about 10.5% or so.

If anyone wants to debate why certain glasses have bunker builds, is because if they went bunker typed builds and obtained protection boon, they effectively can get close to 60-70% dmg reduction.

Even the squishiest of classes can get over 40% dmg reduction from practically boons, not to mention how easy it is for other classes to get regeneration.

Warriors get a small 3-4 sec invuln time (got no idea for sure how long) but if you time your downed stun/skill you can pretty much knock the warrior down right at the end of the invuln time while hes almost about to stake you. Unless he was downed right next to you… then you almost got no chance =P.

Not for warrior since our effective health would benefit more from toughness, only 2 or three classes really benefit from valkyrie gear (guard,thief), does mace #2 really trigger unsuspecting foe?

almost 39% dmg reduction while still getting 50% consistent crit chance and 100% on earthshaker and shield bash (+ whatever attacks are done while opponent is still stunned). I two shotted a glass thief in WvW today (Earthshaker 5.6k crit, 6.4k crit on backbreaker). Ill get screenies next time >.>

Edit: Of course i didnt get accesories yet, but I plan to aim for full cavalier trinkets.

Last Build For Me

This is the last build I can still feel comfortable using. If by any chance Anet ruins my set up, I will reroll guardian in their so call next balancing patch. Its the only build I conjured up from last patch that luckily didn’t get affected in this patch. But I was hoping for more viable builds this patch and got severely punished for having such high hopes.

This build is mostly for WvW, but It works fine in PvE and is fun to fool around in sPvP

If this build stays the way it is I will be happy, But I really wish I could expand on the different builds that were promised to warriors. If this build helps you, I am glad, If not reroll a guardian, cause I know I might if they mess this up =\. Perma might/fury/swiftness, are the reason for 60% boon duration.

Should just make tPvP for 7 classes instead of 8 ….
And call warriors the PvE class for those who don’t want to do anything but swing a giant sword against mobs who don’t have a clue as to why you do so much dmg to them when they can just move aside and avoid it all…

I am so frustrated with the patch, that I had to vent on this forum to rage the inner warrior in which I had kept dormant. 6 months, and still we get 3% burst dmg for 30 points into discipline. I don’t even care about food nerfs, just makes it 10x harder for warriors to have any kind of sustain in PvE/WvW, forget the fact that this game was supposed to be balanced for PvP where food didn’t even matter. But atleast realize that warriors have no sustain anywhere, and they should have atleast found a way to fix that.

I know we are supposed to have a weakness in conditions, but for goodness sakes, what does 18k base health and 2,2k armor mean when we can’t get protection or proper regen?

I wanted atleast our bugfixes for gapclosers… something I feel they would have known about and probably could have fixed far earlier.

I am glad they gave minor buffs to our condition builds (which still suck mind you…)

But honestly, they give us the last stand internal cooldown number?… Yea… I was expecting this.

Will there really be warriors who will pick up their banners and auto attack? really?

Shouts getting minor fix is nice, albeit that wasn’t the major issues with the warriors to begin with.

Can anet please make a post asking for suggestions/fixes/thoughts/complaints on one thread so that everyone can pour some feedback and possibly receive a few ourselves.
Do they still have testers watching what builds need more viability? How to create more diversity in builds? They made condition builds perhaps slightly better, but nerfed every build that used offhand axe to the ground.

Does anyone else think that I am asking too much or being unfair? I just want some reasoning as to why warriors are in the state we are in for more than 6 months. I played since launch and tried BWE, warriors were two different classes.

I just want to feel like I am not a ogre whacking a stick that hurts but anyone with a brain playing any other class can just attack every weakspot I have because we have so many….. and no way to defend against it.

Damage is slightly less with this build but I feel Im far less squishier and still deal a considerable amount of dps/CC wit this build. Its far more effective in WvW and large aoe mobs, but against single target bosses I alternate between rifle/Hammer/sword-shield depending on whether I need to deal pure dmg, or both defiant stack controling and some dps.

Even though Unsuspecting foe looks terrible (only two stuns for warrior, shield bash and earthshaker) It does prove to do considerable & reliable dmg for me. Both skills apply stun prior to their attack which guarantees a crit for myself if I have 50% crit chance which I do with perma fury + 30% crit from gear/traits. I hate the chance part in anything so Knowing I have a guaranteed 5K+ crit from Earthshaker or 3.5k+ crit from shield guaranteed helps me gauge alot more situations better. Also at Full adrenaline, Earthshakers 2 sec stun can lets me use hammer 4 or 5 in conjuction with hammer 3 (has fastest attack animation on hammer skills) and those too will be gauranteed crit. The 1second stun from shield bash is only enough time to use one other ability to guarantee the crit. Another note is with 90~% crit dmg, merciless hammer (25% dmg to stun/kd), Berserkers power (12% dmg max), and Sigil of Impact (10% on stun/kd foe), I have seen earthshaker do 7k+ crits on multiple targets on numerous occasions.

Also since i don’t run warhorn, i need mobility strikes, But I think your build is quite ideal to use it. Hope to see more builds like these from you =)

Raw damage usually beats cc in PvE due to Defiant and the fact that killing stuff quickly negates having to tank them any longer.

This is very true. As I am very cheap and don’t like to change traits often, I found that hammer is still very fun and some what damaging in PvE. Of course GS herderblades melts most bosses faster and thus reduces dmg taken over all and time it takes to deal with the bosses. I just enjoy Hammers skills more and its far more fun for me in most situations. I mostly WvW, and I definitely see more usefulness in with Hammer over GS, especially in small groups and zerg play.

We need More than Just F1…. Period =\
If any new weapons is needed, its just a two handed Axe (assuming its the counterpart to single handed Axe, and is made purely for DPS[sword→GS, Mace→ Hammer, Axe→?])

I wish anet made auto attack differ in animation when you dual wield certain weapons, cause Sword-Sword animation is horrific as a norn. Looks like im slicing butter with one hand constantly cause my other hand is occupied holding the other sword to scare people with =(

This a vid of someone doing this recently. Really depressing such a strong mechanic allows them to take on so many people.

I played thief as my main before, and Honestly….. This video of remembering the days of jumping in and out of vision of enemies was some of the most ninja things I have ever done.

Just watch all his videos if you haven’t, its very interesting.

I know =\, Its even worse that 50% of all the cool skins/legendaries in the game need Charged lodestone…. Mjolnir is only a dream right now =\.
After I get all my gear set up for High level fractals, Im stuck just using really crappy skins Q,Q

Also, Healing Surge has 175-281 hps. WA has 136-170 hps.

I dont know about you, but for a skill that does some dps and heals that much, it sounds pretty good. I think your making more of a justification to use it O.o.
And warriors cant heal ourselves like any other class except through normal heal/adrenal regen (which isn’t too great, but ok) and healing shouts, which need to spec 30 into tactics =\

So for a class that can go dps and still get Regen from a skill, I don’t think its that bad, not to mention, WA isnt the only skill that can heal you while your on food.
