Dealing with Ranged?

I found only 1 solution to for me to play as a full melee warrior (GS/sword-sheild + bull rush, signet of stamina + signet of rage)

  • Swiftness
  • 5 gap closers (Whirwind/Savage leap/Rush/shield bash/bull rush)
  • take Shake it off to stop cripples/knockdowns
  • lots of dodge evades (key is here + gap closers)
  • Mobile strikes for stopping people from immobilizing you

Been loving the super high mobility of this build, give it a try. You literally can dance around any target. The key is to dodge attacks that you can predict coming. Your best friend is Whirlwind + savage leap (low cooldown leap + ww is a dodge), With fast hands, i abuse all gap closers to keep my target near me. Remember to cripple them to also make it hard for them to kite you. I personally run Balance stance over Shake it off, just my taste.

Hmm i do believe healing signet* im guessing is what ur asking does stack with adrenal health (if ur talking sigil, then yes because sigil is on crit, while adrenal health is based on your adrenaline level). I do not think you should invest into healing unless you go banner regen or shout heals (adrenal Heal doesnt scale with healing power, and healing signets ratio is horrible). I use to run a dual sword/Longbow condition build, but i focused on Boon duration to get over 1700+ condition power and over 2.8k attack with over 60% crit chance, which gave me the most condition dmg and good flat dmg to balance out. I also had over 2.6k toughness and 25k health. Over all, I suggest you don’t go full condition dmg ever, warriors have the hardest time applying bleeds, + since we attack so often to apply bleeds, supplying power/precision helps your dps overall.

Try looking at my build to see if you can help make yours more refined.

Knight armor + Ruby orbs or other dps runes would give you good balance of defense/dps, Trinkets should either be full zerk/ruby equisite or if you really want more tank get some valkyrie to balance out with some HP, otherwise aim for more crit dmg/power since its easy for warriors to get crit chance with fury and some precision to go over 50% crit chance. You have sufficient condition removal imo, i wouldnt run signet of fury unless you want the adrenaline gain from the active (which is mediocre at best). I suggest taking signet of stamina instead or another utility for dps would be For great justice. Just my thoughts to help.

Human now. I have two warriors (one Norn/ other human) both lvl 80. I started the Norn warrior first, but the issue with sword animation on norn looking bad, i switch to human just for that. Norn warrior uses a P/V/T Hammer/sword-shield build, while my Human warrior uses GS/Sword-Shield or sword-sword/GS depending on what i feel. Overall I love the human warrior, as the sword animation felt more fluid in design.

I also know what you mean, everyone targets the big guy >.<

I personally run full glass gear (all Zerk) But i have 20 into defense tree + using sheild + signet of stamina (more dodge), i barely die, and i hit like a truck. I felt that mobility + dodging was far more useful than Toughness or Vit (even though tough/vit are helpful).

Basic build. Need feedback.

I suggestion is to get Signet mastery over Adrenal Shouts. You will get plent of regen from aoe hitting+axe and from embrace the pain. The cooldown of Signet of rage/signet of stamina will be much better on a lower cooldown than getting adrelanine from shouts. Other than that i Think your build is fine.

Also find if you think 20% cooldown on hammer skills benefit you more or 20% cooldown from shield. (can always switch between the two at will)

I see what you mean. I too dislike parts of the precision tree due to the focus on bleeds. Regardless to what build you use, 29% of crit (Heightned focus+fury) is extremely easy to obtain + 2 sigils of accuray is instant 39% regardless to what build you go for. Also didn’t know banners = companion O.O

If that rune set up works, then I think you have enough to work with to get over 50% crit chance. And if you want some extra through food, i think you can get like 4-5% more crit chance, (didn’t check) And Maintence Oil I think with high vitality 2k + you get around another 4% and another 3% from base toughness, so another 7%.

Im guessing you won’t go into the precision tree at all? Cause you coulda used swords or hammer/sheild to activate the traits to give crit chance there. But if your gonna get precision from runes that contradicts what you want in your build, idk what your aiming for tho >.<

Explain how you plan to get crit chance without precision? or trying to get precision without using it in gear/trinkets? I don’t understand >.<

His build is very Successful and stands true to a Roaming Sniper build. It really is for WvW, but works well in some other areas too. I personally like the melee style of warriors, but i have noted how awesome rifle can be at times. I always carry a rifle with me in case I need range damage.

There are too misleading things in your builds such as “Double Cannon” and “Goliath” for example.

20/25/0/0/25 – Double Cannon

In which case, you might as well have been 25/25/0/0/20 because the 4% damage increase from 25 minor trait in strength scales more in terms of DPS.

30/0/20/0/20 – Goliath

You are NOT durable at all specially if you’re going to spec like this with three physical utility spells with zero mitigation vs. CC and conditions.

I’m not going to cover everything but I wouldn’t recommend any of your builds at all to new players.

Well they are to try and test. As for the double cannon, your right about the 5 points into the strength rather than discipline and will change as follows. As for the Goliath build, it does have last stand for CC/mending for condition. It isnt a build that can’t take a hit. It definitely isnt a tank build but your not gonna die instantly if you use the correct gear and use shield protect + skills properly. Im sad that you don’t think any of these builds can be used by new players and that you wouldn’t recommend any. They are more for exploring different uses. If any of these builds are misleading in any way, Im willing to fix it for the warriors who want to try something new =D. Please be more considerate when you reply =\, I worked hard to make builds for the community and try to move away from the Flavor of the Month builds, I feel your reply was a bit harsh, but I am glad you replied with some kind of reason.

I also need to state that all builds aren’t ment to stay in the fray for a long period of time (Goliath/Tri Force) but are ment to use their utilities/uses and when it gets rough (low hp/too many conditions) to jump out and regen/restore cooldowns and then jump back in. Currently I don’t know of a warrior build really able to sit in front of 10+ players and last longer than 5 seconds.

Battle Medic
Another WvW build, but can also be used in dungeons for support. Give swiftness/random boons, vigor, and help keep the team alive. Great in WvW to help get people up. Idea was to make a tanky healer that can go into front lines and heal people without getting interrupted or killed in a split second, and then go back to the back lines to push some dps and give boons to everyone. This isn’t a shout build or banner, but can be made into one easily by moving around traits/utilities. But since i wanted to try something different, this was actually a very useful and helpful build.

Gear/Trinkets: (Sword-Warhorn/Long bow) Mix of Cleric(healing/power/toughness) and (Healing/precision/vitality) gear to get maximum healing and a mix of power/vitality/toughness/precision. Runes = Currently I think runes of mercy is not working as intended but those would be the best choice to res people with. If it isn’t working use of these runes are helpful too (Dwayna/Altriusm/Centaur) and even boon duration is good too (2 monk/water+ other runes).

Pros:

  • Great at ressurecting players
  • Still does some decent dmg + Combo Field
  • Tanky + lots of utility
  • Boons all over the place and boon removal
  • Great in WvW/Dungeons

Cons:

  • Not gonna do lots of Dps
  • Lacks true heals like banner regen/shout heals
  • Probably can’t do it as well as guardians

Conclusions
I will be adding more builds as time go on, I hope these are good ideas for many players looking to find a new way to play their warrior or looking for a build for their new warrior. If you want to alter/customize/change anything to your liking, please do so. All builds aren’t set in stone. Experiment and find what works best for you. Any criticism is welcome as long as its mature and helpful. A simple Thanks would also be nice if you wish to reply in good comments.

Dodge Meister
This was a build I was thinking about for warriors to obtain absurdly long duration of movement and survivability by abusing vigor+signet of stamina and stances + swiftness. This was sort of a fun way to play around, it was tanky enough and did decent dmg. Very mobile and highly recommended for anyone wanting to duel in sPvP or skirmish in WvW. Using Whirlwind like a dodge and sword/warhorn for mobility and condition removal makes you very slippery.

Gear/Trinkets: (GS/Sword-Warhorn) Also a good mix of Knight/Valkryie or P/V/T gear would be good as survivability and endurance will be your key aspects. Runes = Something offensive will be nice (Divinity/Rage/Lyssa), Dolyak is decent as well or boon duration from mix of water/monk.

Pros:

  • Very high mobility and Perma Vigor
  • Above decent Dmg and condition removal
  • Warhorn is a team utility item that is very valuable
  • Slippery and fun to play, great Roamer
  • Access to frenzy, means burst dps is possible

Cons:

  • Not gonna Drop huge dps
  • Much less useful in PvE/Dungeon play
  • Difficult to value when to use stances due to long cooldowns on stances

Double Cannon
This is a Glass cannon build good in WvW & sPvP with the single use for it is to kill the target as fast as possible. Great for catching people and killing them before they can do anything. Utilizing rifle butt/bolas throw and shield bash to set up for a (Frenzy/killshot) or eviscerate. Check my other guide for how this build works with combos to see an example of how to use these weapons together. Signet of fury can be changed for a different utility, I just like to combo Rifle Butt -> Bolas Throw -> Frenzy/Killshot -> signet of fury -> Eviscerate.

Gear/Trinkets: (Axe-Shield/Rifle) Most likely zerk will give you the most bang for your hits, but some knight gear can possibly raise your survivability without costing you too much dps. Runes = most likely Offensive (Divinity/Rage/lyssa/Scholar)

25/25/0/0/20

Pros:

  • Huge single target Dps
  • Great for WvW Sniping =D
  • Strong 1v1 with Axe-Shield

Cons:

  • Squishy and little escapes
  • Selfish skills/traits/utilities
  • Not very mobile

Tri Force
Maximize Dual wield potential and use axe/sword/mace for aoe dps. This build is like a soldier =P, it really does go in a battle field and try to do as much pain as possible. Its a great build in small groups to large zerg fights. Mostly a WvW or Mob trash mower in PvE, but can apply great single target dps as well. You can change around the arrangement for the one hand weapons to your liking. I liked sword-axe/axe-mace combination.

Gear/Trinkets: (Sword-Axe/Axe-Mace) Mix of Knight/Valk/Zerk gear is a great combination. Runes = Best bet is go Dps (Divinity/Rage) or get something defensive to last longer if you feel you don’t have have enough survivability. Like Forge/Vampirism.

Pros:

  • Great Balance of AOE DPS/CC
  • Many combinations of abilities to switch between weapons
  • Good against Single and Multiple targets
  • Feels more Warrior type than other builds =D

Cons:

  • Not super tanky or have any real escape abilities besides savage Leap
  • Not the most self reliant build
  • No really strong defensive abilities
  • Selfish Utilities/Skills/Traits

CoaxialMazer.9140

Hi, My name is CoaxialMazer and I would like to share a bunch of Builds I had tested and found fun and interesting to use. I will try my best to explain their pros/cons and perhaps someone will find some use of what I put here and would be glad to be of some help, especially to new players look for interesting ways to play warriors besides the most common builds like (Zerk GS frenzy builds/Shout builds/banner builds) As I believe this is the most common build for most warriors. I would love to see the communities feedback and how we can make other builds more viable for Warrior regardless of broken traits/skills since anet should take notice of what needs fixing/adjusting for warriors.

I will be separating some Builds for specific uses but I think most people can adjust any build here to do what they want and like. I hope one of these builds can offer some window of opportunity to expand what you wish to build your warrior into, or change.
This is to expand how people see warriors and possibly open up more builds to the community as well as address to anet how to increase the viability of other builds warriors are looking to play with. I have two Warriors and I constantly Change builds to test new things out and make it fun to do different things.

[Please do not respond with quotes like ‘Oh my build is better’ or ’that’s a terrible build’ or ’don’t use that trait cause its garbage’. Constructive criticism is welcome but opinionated bashing isn’t helpful to anyone or the post. Thank you]

Note: all builds utility and skills are on the build link. Remember heal/utility is up to you, the ones I placed are just recommended (taking off too many utilities may no longer be doing what you want your build to focus on =P), and food is up to the player. Some would like life on hit or regen, or crit dmg, up to you.]

Builds

Goliath
This build is For CC and Aoe Dps, most likely its uses will shine in WvW. I thought of how to make Physical utilities be more effective and used more so in game. This is something that worked well and was beyond fun to play with. Again any variations to this build is up to you, this is just how I ran it during my time playing around.

Gear/Trinket: (Hammer/Sword-Shield) Preferably a nice mix between Knight/Valkyrie gear would give good defense/DPS, Runes = Probably best to go with (Dolyak/lyssa/Forge)

30/0/20/0/20

Pros:

  • Great Aoe Dps/CC
  • Couple of Gap Closers
  • Tanky and durable
  • Ease of useage

Cons:

  • Utility Cooldowns are rather long
  • Relies on Last stand for balance stance which has internal CD of 90 seconds
  • Lacks Team Support (selfish utilities/traits/skills)

How does Dolyak Signet scale with endgame?

in Warrior

Posted by: CoaxialMazer.9140

CoaxialMazer.9140

Only reason to use dolyak signet is at early levels (x<60) and if you use dolyak signet for its active, you should also get last stand, as its the only skill that can increase duration of stability. Last stand has a 90 second internal cooldown that only activates on proc or if you use balance stance in utility, which means balance stance + last stand is a no no. But dolyak signet + last stand is fine, but regardless Balance stance>Dolyak signet any day. Lower CD on top of stun breaker + Reliable stability.

You’ll be fine as long as you don’t die all the time and you actually help do something in dungeons. Any one who is prejudice against your build or anyone else is just a jerk. Someone can literally run random traits and gear parts and still be usefull as long as they do something useful in the dungeon (Dps/Support/Rez peoplez)

I got a slight solution for you that i currently run. Use sword/Shield + GS and make sure you get fast hands and use signet of stamina + Bull rush. 5 gap closer (Whirlwind/Rush/Shield bash/Savage Leap/Bull rush). If you get mobility trait in discipline, you cant’ get stopped by immobilize. Its how i run my dueling build. More dodge rolls + swiftness from signet of rage, 5 dashes and still have great chasing abilities on low cooldown. Key is to abuse weapon switch as often as possible to maximize the gap closers.

Otherwise i agree we don’t have many skills that stick you out enemy target.

how2 getmost out of Shield in PvE and PvP?

in Warrior

Posted by: CoaxialMazer.9140

CoaxialMazer.9140

Shields real utility/strength is if you trait it.

  • 90+toughness + 61 built in at lvl 80 = 151 toughness (decent defense)
  • 3 second invuln every 24 seconds is a good blocker against an enemy player burst or in PvE its good against bosses that you know are gonna use a specific attack like Kholer in AC.
  • 1 second stun (real use is small gap closer and interrupt – great for stopping specific mobs from using an attack or knocking a defiance bar from a boss) every 20 seconds is pretty useful, plus the damage on it is pretty decent.

Combine all that, and that’s what you can make out of shield for warrior. Its not bad in terms of utility, but others would argue warhorn is better for more uses and when traited. Personally I love the shield, its more of a preference offhand.

Combos

This is a slight section outside of the adrenaline guide.
After playing a warrior for such a long time, I finally found a great way to utilize Fast hands and different skills together. This Research, offered a few ways to combine these skills and the second weapon set skills to their advantages (such as gap closer/knockdown/roll) which I call Combos (Not field combos only- but i will include them). I will not put the one trick pony combo in here because of its widely known use. (Please excuse the names, just for fun and labeling)

Field ones

  • Flame Shield = (scorching arrow + leap/gap closer) it applies the burn dot on any attacker, decent for some dmg, but otherwise not to amazing.
  • Might Stacker = (scorching arrow + Blast finisher) Gives might to allies in the area which you use your blast finisher (banner is common source)
  • Fire tornado = (scorching arrow + whirl) Whirlwind or whirling axe are good skills to deal dmg to targets in a small area.

[x = any weapon you want]

Weapon & Utility Combos

  • Triple Knock back (Hammer/sword-shield) = Earthshaker (hammer burst) into an area -> then Hammer skill 5 enemy target or skip straight to hammer skill 4 for knockback if you want to blow target in that direction -> then switch to sword and shield for savage leap -> into the ability kick -> use shield bash to close gap once more -> then use stomp (hilarious way to peel a target)(usage of balance stance could help make this happen smoother or use Fear me for another CC control)(does not work on someone who has balanced stance on).
  • Guerrilla Warfare (Greatsword/sword-shield) = Bull rush -> into a hundred blades (don’t finish the full animation if target is about to use an ability or attack, or roll out, -> use whirlwind in direction of enemy -> switch to sword/shield for savage leap -> cripple -> auto attack till you can repeat process with a flurry/sheild bash into another hunderblade/whirlwind etc.
  • Boom and Slice (Rifle/Axe-x) = Rifle butt -> Frenzy -> Bolas Throw -> killshot -> Signet of fury -> switch to axe -> Eviscerate
  • Rip rip and dip (Sword-Sword/Greatsword) = Empale -> Savage leap -> Flurry but cancel early for rip -> bolas throw/bull rush -> switch to greatsword to start Hundredblade -> cancel early if target is no longer snared by using whirlwind -> rush to create space. Rinse repeat.
  • Knock em down (Hammer/Mace-mace) = Tremor -> Bull Rush -> pommel smash Skull crack -> Stomp -> Signet of fury -> switch to hammer for earthshaker -> backbreaker -> Hammer 4 (can prolong the duration of all effects by timing them in a proper fashion. This is also known as juggling)

There are more combinations of attacks between different weapons sets and utilities. If you have others please contribute to this thread. Most of these combos are to be done in a very quick manner (no more then say 3-7 seconds at most).

Conclusion

Thank you for reading. I hope this opens a window for many people rolling warrior or avid warrior players. If you already know about this builds ideas than I guess this isn’t much help to you. I accept any criticism or comments that can better help tweak and refine the warrior builds that exist. If this helped you in any way, I would be satisfied with a simple thanks. If you wish to criticize please provide helpful feedback and maturity in your responses. Thank you.

My Build

This is my current build with my second warrior. I mostly use this build for WvW/Dungeons. I always carry a rifle with me at all times for emergency ranged scenarios or fractals =P. Otherwise I use GS/Sword-Shield which I change sometimes to GS/Sword-Sword. The idea for this build was to gain maximum movement and stick to my target strongly + be some what able to mitigate damage and remove conditions.

Sometimes changing traits around depending on whether I use sword/shield on offhand. I will change this build later to better go with Lyssa runes (using ruby orbs right now =P)(Cheap way to gain dps) which I plan on using with this:

Armor/Trinkets -

Sigils -
GS = Fire, Sword = Air, Shield = Energy
or
GS = Force, Sword = Rage, Shield = Energy

Still debating Q.Q

Skills -
(Adrenaline Surge/Mending) – Sometimes I need more healz, sometimes condition removal
(Balanced Stance/Frenzy) – Depending on Shield/Sword offhand
(Bull Rush/Bolas Throw) – Depends on how I feel
(Signet of Stamina) – endurance regen is amazing + active is great for condition removal
(Signet of Rage) – Obvious Reasons of pure Dps/swiftness

This build was a basis for obtaining a thief like personality while still feeling like a warrior. Its core parts are guerrilla tactics. 5 gap closers (shield bash is kinda a gap closer =P) [Bull Rush/Whirlwind/Rush/Savage Leap] + swiftness, helps jump in and out against most targets (both players or PvE mobs). High survivability if you can time your shield block/dodge rolls well.

Max Adrenaline Abuse (Universal Guide)

CoaxialMazer.9140

There are many many types of builds that can be used to work with Full Adrenaline. The idea is to use the skills between two sets constantly, and use the burst skills as little as possible unless necessary or if your build is centered around it, to reap its benefits.

Certain Skills/Traits can also contribute to adrenaline gains very quickly in the case you wish to maximize the uptime of adrenaline with using burst skills every now and again like killshot or flurry. These skills/Traits are and their usefulness (opinion):

[Note: full 3 bars of adrenaline = 30 strikes]
[Every hit on an enemy target gives 1 strike of adrenaline]
[Rating for usefulness in terms of gaining adrenaline 1(weak) – 10(strong)]

  • {5} Mace skill 2 and sword skill 5 give adrenaline after max charge up time of about 3 seconds = about 4 strikes of adrenaline each
  • {7} Versatile Rage (5 Discipline) = 5 strikes for weapon switching in combat
  • {8} Embrace the pain (10 Defense) = 1 strike for every hit on your character (does not include condition ticks/dmg)
  • {4} Furious (30 Arms) = extra strike of adrelanine per a crit, Not to crazy about it
  • {2} Berserkers might/stance (30 Strength/utility slot) = (5 strikes/sec) full 30 strikes over a period of 6 seconds, not really worth a slot in utility or going 30 into strength.
  • {9} Healing Surge = Full 30 strikes + heal and gives more heal with full adrenaline is great. Best way to get adrenaline fast, yes it uses your heal, but gives full bars + heal on a 30 second cooldown.
  • {1} Signet of Rage = Gives like 1 strike every 3 seconds. Idk why it would be on passive, its active is 10x more useful.
  • {4} Signet of Fury = full 30 strikes and precision when not activated, not too terrible, but better choices elsewhere in my opinion.
  • {8} Inspiring Shouts (10 Discipline) = 8 strikes per a shout, pretty good ratio for a shout
  • {6} Sharpened Axes (20 Discipline) = extra Strike per a crit from axe, (this + whirling axe + 100% crit = full 30 strikes with one skill from one target)
  • The rest of the other skills/traits aren’t even worth mentioning or bothering with.

This means if you are going to use Burst skills often then I Suggest you make sure you can gain adrenaline adequately Using a few of these traits/skills.

Armor/Gear

Best part about this Build is that it doesn’t affect your build design at all. You can go very heavy into dps (zerker gear) or Tanky (P/V/T) or mix of anything and still be quite able to deal some damage and be a bit sustainable. I do need to say that condition builds will probably not receive much gains in this build, but it is still possible to go 30 into arms and spec for sword or rifle, and retain the adrenaline usefulness. (Side Note (opinion) – Condition Warrior builds currently are a quite subpar to other builds warrior can achieve and other condition builds on other classes). To that Note, any kind of build can probably benefit from this basis of adrenaline abuse.

Basis & Variations

There is only 4 Skills/traits that gain maximum benefits from full adrenaline:

  • Adrenaline Surge = Max health gain at full Adrenaline
  • Berserkers Power = 12% max damage
  • Adrenal Health = 360 health every 3 sec = 120 hp/s
  • Heightened Focus = 9% crit chance

That means with 35 Trait points (I say 40 = Reason why after) you get Dps/HP effectiveness at a very good rate without ever losing it as long as you have full adrenaline. This means that even tanky specs or support specs can get some dps without having to go deep into the offensive trait trees. Anyone who doesn’t use their burst skills often, or at all, can gain massive benefits with just 35 trait points and have a more well rounded aspect to any of their builds.

What you get for 40 points =

  1. 10 Strength = 100 power + 10% condition duration + 12% damage increase and damage (about an auto attack worth) when rolling, which goes great with Signet of stamina/vigor.
  2. 20 Defense = 200 toughness + healing + 120 hp/s regen + free 100 toughness when your 90% hp + 2 defensive traits (reason for 20 is because I think the fixed trait Last stand compliments any build exceptionally well as long as your not using a shield or mace or hammer, and in some cases even if you are)
  3. 10 Discipline = 10% Crit dmg + …..1% burst dmg (Another reason to not use burst skills) + 9% Crit Chance + gain 5 strikes adrenaline on weapon switch in combat (would argue if you didn’t put 5 into defense for last stand, at least 5 into discipline for fast hands and the 5% crit dmg which goes well with versatile rage)

The idea for full Adrenaline really is more or less centered around GS, since it has the worst Burst skill out of all of them, and GS benefits perhaps the most from all of these aspects, including the healing part because GS is a mobile type of fighting style = longer fight/chasing, allowing adrenal health+surge to be better utilized. This doesn’t mean that other weapons/builds can’t benefit from these traits/skill. A few Examples where these traits/skill can be made into other builds are:

(I assume people know what traits to get for their weapon/build as I will be
labeling only the trait allocations)

(please excuse the names, they were labels =D)

  • Hammer Time = 10/0/20/20/20 – Hammer/Sword-Warhorn
Aoe Dps/CC and Team Condition Removal/buffer, best to go with Power/Vitality/Toughness Gear
  • Active Shooter = 10/25/15/0/20 – Rifle/GS
Single Target DPS and high mobility. Roamer style with some defensive stats for close up and personal GS dps or escape. Most likely Zerker gear would be appropriate,
  • Can I axe you a question? = 20/0/20/0/30 – Axe-Axe/(anything u want)
High AOE Dps from Whirling-axe + last stand + endure pain = Shredder
Knight/Valk/Zerk gear combinations are good choices.

CoaxialMazer.9140

Hi, My name is CoaxialMazer and I have a build that I theorized on my own, and I’m sure someone out there probably has come across this idea or there has been a guide on it somewhere (reddit/earlier beta/forum), but I haven’t been able to find it. Thus I make this guide for those who want to try warrior from a different perspective.

Theory
The Thought behind my build came after I realized that Norn warrior and swords didn’t have the same feel as human animation (Trust me its weird, but I made a second warrior just for that reason) and that I wanted to make swords a DPS build. I was also partially inspired to go Sword-Shield/GS and Sword-Sword/GS after watching a few videos and saw the pros/cons these weapon combinations. After much research and testing, I feel I found another way to develop a build to help warriors in a general way much like my Boon Guide.

Warriors have a Unique ability and traits just like every other class, except that most warriors would argue the adrenaline system is pretty subpar compared to other classes Special abilities, for example (joking way to explain):

Elementalist = 4 attunements + Superior Sigil of Battle = Boss
Necromancer = 2nd lifebar + already high health pool = Boss
Mesmer = Clones + dps + utility = Boss
Guardian = Passive virtues + actives = Boss
Ranger = pet ai + pet abilites = well… yea when they fix it =P
Engineer = Tool belt + skills = Pretty versatile
Thief = Steal + Cloak and Dagger + Back Stab = Broken

Anyways, all joking aside, warriors have adrenaline, and burst skills. Some burst skills were Amazingly broken (eviscerate/killshot) but the nerf to burst dmg made that stop. Some Burst skills now are still strong to some extent, including killshot/eviscerate, but overall the weapons that are associated with each of these burst skills is a true testament to the build in which you use. Lets look very fast at each Burst skill:

  • Killshot (Rifle – Single target dps) = High Single Target Dmg (easy to avoid if someone notices)
  • Combustive Arrow (Bow – Multi target dps) = Fire field + burn dmg (long duration and great field effect)
  • Eviscerate (Axe – multi target close range dps) = High single target Dmg (easy to dodge/predict)
  • Flurry (Sword – bleed/mobility use) = Multi close target immobilize/bleed (Low dps even if specced heavily on Condition dmg)
  • Skull Crack (Mace – stun/weakness) = Multi close target stun (low stun time 2 seconds)
  • Arcing slice (GS – Mobility/multi target dps) = ………….. uh fury? (fury for 10 sec max?)
  • Earthshaker (Hammer – Crowd Control/weakness) = Multi target stun (sometimes doesnt always work and 2 sec stun only)

[I know these weapons offer more than what I stated on them, but those are their more stronger aspects of that weapon]

As you see, some are quite useful in certain scenarios, and others not so much. What that means, is that most of time our adrenaline bar is full, and leaving us with a burst skill of choice to use when we wanted. Well my guide is just a way I figured a warrior can spec any way they want gear wise, and get some tanky/dps without spreading points around too much into traits, assuming they don’t use the adrenaline skills often or at all (like me =D).

While making perfect sense almost everywhere and I could decide to give it a try, there is no reason to handicap yourself with such runes whereas you could get 6 lyssa runes instead.
Providing perfect synergy with boon duration and Empowered trait they have, why not?

I totally agree that Lyssa runes are amazing with boon duration and for empowered trait, no doubts there. When i had made this guide, the intention was a self sustaining (cheap) way to provide perma swift/DPS and allow them to spec into defensive gear/traits and perhaps make a condition/power warrior spec more viable in more scenarios. If i was to run Lyssa runes, it would be a different scenario though. Yes i would also need to use food to compensate for the lost boon duration, but it is possible to get perma all with that runes setup and food.

I recently was thinking about trying to make a P/V/T hammer spec for dps using lyssa runes. There are many options and choices in any build. My hope was to spread the idea of boon duration on warriors and our skills/traits could some what synergize together to make certain builds/specs more viable and useful. I didn’t want to see hundreds of zerker warriors or 100B warriors all day everywhere i go. Figured this was a great way to get everything you could want without losing too much in other areas (dps/tankiness/utility).

@killahmayne

Your build is interesting and seems to be speced more into dps. Everybuild generally has its pros and cons. I also agree that full blown condition warrior is very subpar compared to every other build in terms of dps/usefullness. Tactics tree was more support based rather than dps. The idea to gain dps from it, came from the fact that it gave boon duration, and that warriors had great dps boons. I currently have a second warrior that is specced without boon duration and is far squishier and less useful in a team, but he hits like a truck. I hope my guide was helpful though.

4 Runes of altruism isnt too bad if want the tier 1 bonus, but 2 water/monk = 4 altruism in terms of boon duration. I like the extra 20% for might duration to keep 16+ stacks of might constantly between FGJ/Signet of Rage/Signet of might. Of course if you wish to use altruism, thats fine too.

Power probably ur best bet, perhaps precision but that will only give an extra 12% crit chance at most, so its up to you, though most argue the power one helps you snowball better

Hmm Sigil of generosity can be helpful, as your second sigil could be up to you. Make sure its not a Sigil with a CD, like rage or earth/fire etc. Those internal cooldowns overlap. So if you have one on cooldown, the other wont activate. So force/accuracy/or something thats passive would help. My suggestion would be sigil of bloodlust to get the 250 power (expensive sigil) or something that increases duration or gain something after a kill or something passive like force/accuracy.

Yes i know what u mean about “FOJ”, wish it had an autocast and could be muted, but i guess anet wants me to suffer Q.Q, anyways all jokes aside. P/V/T gear is easy to get at 80, just run Ascalonian Catacombs exploration mode and do all 3 paths everyday. In about 4-5 days, u can get a full set of P/V/T armor and get around 8-10 gold easy to buy 3-4 trinkets. Just farm and buy stuff, and in about 1 week with about 2 hours of play everday, u can easily get fully decked out.

Yes boon duration% increases the boon u give to others as well, which is another reason i like the boon build. At 70% boon duration (30 traits/40% with 2 sup water/2 sup monk/ 2 great water) and another 20% from food (omnom berry cream), you can make lots of boons you give last for a long time. Those are good choices in terms utilities.

Your choices then should be either 10 into power for the power gain/ or 10 into discipline for the signet mastery to get the reduction in stamina/rage (if u use it).
With very high power (2.3K+) and fury boon, you still inflict substantial dmg, and can be super tanky

hmm, if you plan on ignoring condition dmg in general, then you can definitely spec more appropriately to increase dmg and survivability more easier. Hmm, you can give fury/might to your team much easier using “For great justice” and its up time is rather significant with 30% boon duration. Sigil of earth would only benefit you if you went condition, and if u were specced 25 into arms for the extra 10% dmg. Otherwise lots of other sigils offer more dps/utility. Depending on your armor, i can suggest where your last 10 points could go, and depending on what utilities/heal/ulti, you will use constantly, can also depend. I feel if you wanted the power/precision, you probably could get more bang for your buck just buying orbs that give you power/prec/(crit dmg/cond/toughness). Its a bit less than the power/precision from the full 6 pieces, but its cheaper and u get a third stat the benefits what u might want to use rather than the 5% chance to activate the boons. I think emerald orb might be best with the toughness. 6 pieces = 120 precision/84 power/84 toughness. Its cheaper and probably better for your build.

Tell me what you have your mind focused on right now? no more condition dmg? what utilities, what skills u will be using often, and what role u want to fill. I can better help give advice/suggestions. =D

Also all banners can give swiftness, and with 30%+ boon duration, you can give perma swiftness to your team.

Hmm pack is a more get hit often build, but if ur using rifle as ur build, i suggest try different runes. Perhaps a rune that gives you more dmg since your traits are specced more into defense. If you do a boon duration set (2 superior monk/water and the other 2 runes can be w/e u want) you can give perma regen to everyone on your team with a banner for a defensive approach. Personally i would get runes of the lyssa with 10 points into discipline and get signet recharge and use signet of rage in connection with it. But if you wish to buy cheaper runes (lyssa mad expensive T.T), rune of a the centaur isnt too bad of a choice either. Runes are really preference, to how you want to round out your build.

10 points into power = berserkers power = 12% dmg if you dont use adrenaline skills often
10 points into arms = deep cuts = 50% long bleed dmg (probably ur best choice if u want more condition dmg)
10 points into discipline = signet mastery = signet of stamina/rage (36s/48s) cd is great.
(warriors sprint is lacking right now = 10% movement) while warriors can gain swiftness easily and often through signet of rage and warhorn = 33% movement.

Its up to you honestly, but i think you can pull 10 from defense and plot 20 points into two trees to give you a bit more dmg/utility. I personally dont believe going the last 10 points into defense to be as helpful defensive wise unless i run very heavy power for retaliation dmg/ or endure pain at 25% health (90 sec cooldown). The 5% toughness to power is minimal, as if ur not full on toughness it only gives around [45(base)-125(2.5k toughness)] power, which is not as great as getting a trait the helps you get more utlity. Traits are easily the most versatile thing to work around (trait reset is like 3s) but gear is more important since buying a new set of exotics, can be annoying.

Test and try out what u like. For sigils = earth is your best bet for condition dmg on rifle/sword, while if u like to use killshot on rifle, get intelligence for guaranteed critical on it. If u dodge, often, sigil of energy is great on sheild for the extra dodge roll you get from switching to sword/sheild. Many choices are avaliable.
Glad to be able to help =D

Well if your wanting a debate on power/precision its a debate on what you want to focus on. Generally if your more condition inclined than precision is definitely your winner, but i do think power is still a necessity for warrior condition because of how often we inflict flat dmg when trying to add bleeds. A good number to look for is about 500-10 ratio on attack/crit chance. So 3000 attack goes well with 60% crit chance. If you get crit dmg too, than the math changes to favor more precision. Over all, precision is better in most cases (especially with sigil of earth/on crit sigils). The perfect math isnt in my head, but you can search and find stuff more specialized in those areas.

Condition for warrior is a bonus more or less, in my opinion, to our attacks. Regardless to how you build, full on condition dmg is not too good on warriors currently.

My suggestion, Using Sword/x and hammer. U get some bleed to get the 10% dmg increase and fast hands to abuse sword bleed and mobility, and then use hammer to get the dps/control affects. Use knight/zerk mix even some valkryie is decent. If you use adrenaline hammer skill often then use embrace the pain otherwise the 5% dps from cull of the weak isnt too bad (not in simulator). Test out what you like, but dps wise hammer can do some decent aoe dmg. If your not hitting 3+ mobs then your probably not getting as much dps as a GS in most cases.

<— full glass, die less than other classes speced out for bunker. Good idea would be to use signet of stamina, dodge more and if ur in a shiet situation and need to clear conditions, its the best for warriors. If your bound to get hit, get some toughness or use sheild for the sheild block and dodge. Dodge alot.

Problem with bleed for warriors is the rate + factor that we need to be in melee range to inflict them. Its kinda gimpy to focus on condition dmg, but if you spec a bit evenly with power/condition dmg, you become hybrid, and potentially can be succesful in some areas. Otherwise, bleed needs fixing for warriors atleast. Too difficult to apply not to mention apply other conditions, and too easy to remove on other classes. Warriors seem currently stuck to using just Direct dmg currently, cause full zerk/direct dmg gear, works better with sword currently than does condition dmg. Same with bow/rifle.

So, is the a point in 2xAxe when GS exists?

Easymodex
^ this guy pretty much said it all. Only reason i use GS is for mobility/Whilrwind. Whirlwind is really where the sexyness of GS comes out. The only true evasive attacks warrior have and it does great burst dmg and mobility. If you use fast hands/ its low cooldown literally means a third dodgeroll/burst every 8-10 seconds. Warriors were kinda ment to use both weapons sets very often and fast, + with axe ur prone to use eviscerate, while GS burst skill is non useful in anyway. Meaning that u get max adrenaline dmg (berserkers power) and other adrenaline beneficial traits/skills to still be of great use. Personally, i despise the flavor of the weapon, cause everyone uses it. But no one can deny its great strength of mobility/dmg. Even HB is a great down state dps finisher since ur rooted, its good against targets that might be too annoying to stake them, so dps is a better option, great against more than 1 person downed within a vicinity.

You can mix a bit of stats around to still get lots of condition dmg and vit/toughness.
I had full galrath armor (cond/pre/tough) and full carrion trinkets (cond/pow/vit). Gave me a good 25k+ health and over 2.8k armor and i could get over 1300+ condition dmg easy. With the boon build i made, i had up to 1700+ condition dmg and 3k+ attack to make it good mix of both damages. With precision/fury i had over 50% crit chance so i did decent flat dmg and crit often enough for sigil of earth to proc alot/trait passive (5 into arms).
