Yes, we care about the forums.
We also care about all the classes equally.
Actions speak louder than words.
They had to, clearly rangers were so vastly overpowered in ANet fairy land.
There was a rumour that a ranger once beat a thief in WvW, ANet just had to act on that.
That was Robert Hrouda claiming he could use his wolf F2 ability while fighting thieves and beat them. He lied.
No, there are other trolling braggarts who say the same thing.
Target dummy for the other classes to have fun killing in WvW.
They nerfed devourers. Devourers, moas and pigs. They didn’t pick pets people used, they just nerfed them all except for the handful that did less damage than necro minions.
Well, the moa was deadly to thieves and mesmers. Ever watch a moa peck a thief to death? It is a hideous sight, especially when you just fought three of them with your wolf’s ever-reliable F2 skill fearing them away, and then finishing off the survivors with your moa. Just ask Robert Hrouda, who always uses wolf F2 against thieves.
With the 7 percent nerf. I trust WvW will now be 7 percent safer for thieves and mesmers, who desperately needed some balance in battle against this rarely-used but uber-powerful pet.
We still have the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog though, which the devs in their foolishness forgot to nerf. I can take on a platoon of guardians with that thing.
I see another nerf incoming.
you know its because Mages QQed.
It was valid in that other mmo, its still valid here
Which is why hundreds of thousands of ex-hunters no longer play that other MMO and why a lot of rangers will soon be dropping this kitten pile for the next MMO to come along.
Abet is following the same process of ubernerfing the weakest, most broken class into the ground while refusing to fix longstanding bugs and broken mechanics, all while buffing the OP classes to the sky, making them boring 3-shot faceroll gods. In the end there was no fun class to play in that other MMO because you were either the redheaded stepchild or the abusive stepfather, but never on equal terms with your opponent unless he was of a similar weak or powerful class.
They keep nerfing the weakest, most broken class in the game into the ground while buffing the OP classes. This game becomes more of a joke with every update.
The fault does not lie with people “abusing” (what an idiotic concept) one of the few worthwhile builds we have, but of an brain-dead development team that refuses to fix what’s broken with this class while continually making it more and more worthless. What’s laughable about the pet nerf is that pets don’t do much damage in PVP anyway except to idiots who don’t move. This will hurt PVE more than anything.
The notes were “leaked” for a reason: for the developers to get feedback. We can thank the fanboys and trolls for giving them positive feedback while attacking everyone who criticized the changes for “whining” or being “paranoid.” You would think people have enough experience with Anet and its established track record of kittenry to have predicted what direction the changes to rangers were going to go in even without “leaked” notes.
People were so used to rangers being a free kill that the minute a build arose that caused them a little trouble they whined to the developers and of course, Anet’s moronic development team responded as predicted with an ubernerf.
At this point it is safe to say they will never fix all the many things that are broken about this class. They are either completely oblivious to reality, incompetent or the class is designed to fail so that other people can have fun in PVP.
I’m considering switching games. I am tired of running around in WvW with a kitten and broken class shooting myself (retaliation, confusion). I am looking for a PVP game that doesn’t suck. This isn’t it.
Complain now before they screw us because it will be impossible to get it reversed afterwards.
Pets do DPS? Against what, Akitten players? Doors? They certainly don’t do much damage against anyone with the good sense to move.
Like in WoW with the hunter class, the ranger class in this game is broken and not viable except for one or two boring defense-oriented specs and the devs refuse to fix what’s obviously wrong. Instead they will continue to nerf the class into the ground because someone out there has to be easy to kill and hit like a wet noodle for the game to be fun for everyone else. This class is designed to fail.
I’m still dying due to using my barrage skill against zergs. Isn’t that fun?
One suggestion i can make for this issue is to make the Bags of Loot the same as regular material bags of loot you get from mobs, which will be automatically looted into your bag. This idea would also eliminate bag clutter as the bags would stack just like regular material loot bags, allowing you to open them whenever you wanted so you don’t waste time selling a bunch of blue/greens after every 2-3 fights. Finally if you have no room for anymore bags, then and only then would the bags of loot drop on the ground the same as they do now.
- Tobby
This is an excellent idea.
1. It would eliminate the problem of unlooted bags.
2. Would eliminate the problem of running out of inventory space in the field.
3. Would still allow you the fun of opening bags and finding cool stuff, like yellows.
This is THE solution to the problem. I can think of no better!
3) Given that dying is just a part of WvW, it truly doesn’t make sense that we have to pay for armor repairs. I think armor repairs are one of the first things that need to go. I’m a little surprised they’ve made it this far.
Anyone have other ideas for making WvW more rewarding financially?
This is so self-evident it amazes me the devs just can’t see it. Death penalties really hurt WvW because they lead to timid play and people avoiding fights to avoid repair bills. As you say you only have to see the difference when one side has the Unmanned buff, and right away the fighting becomes a lot more intense as people stay and fight for towers and keeps they would otherwise abandon as soon as the gates go down.
WvW has its moments, but it is rarely as intense as PVP is in other games. Big zergs tend to insta-gib small groups as the small groups tend to run rather than fight. Do away with death penalties and those small groups have no reason to run any more. They may still get wiped, but not without a real fight.
My best moments in WvW bar none have been when the Unamnned buff is up on either side. The intensity tends to ramp up exponentially at those times as people commit more to the fight.
As predicted they simply refuse to fix this, but instead give a minor reduction in cooldown on utterly broken abilities. What good is a reduced cd if the ability fails to go off most of the time you use it, and fails to connect when it doesn’t fail to go off.
These abilities need to be instant cast and have to work while the pet is moving or they’re useless.
Getting fed up with this crap now. Fix this kittening class already!
The monkey pet is annoying as hell and is single-handedly ruining my WvW experience. There is a one hundred g wonder commander on my server who always has that kitten thing out, so all I hear in WvW is “wok, wok, wok…wok, wok, wok…wok, wok, wok..bleep, bleep” over and over and over again. It can easily be heard above the sounds of battle, unlike my weapon noises.
Trying to get poorly socialized people who like to be annoying to put the thing away is, of course, impossible. The more you ask the more they want to keep it out.
This game has way too much idiotic developer trolling but annoying 1980s video game noises take the prize.
The next time someone comes out with a list like this, expect the monkey to be on it:
http://www.gamesradar.com/the-most-annoying-sound-effects-in-gaming-history/
NERF THE MONKEY NOISE, PLEASE!!!!!
I’d buy it if it wasn’t a total rip-off. $10 per character for just one tool? That’s ridiculous for something that should already be in the game: reusable gathering tools. Make it $10 to upgrade all toons with reusable gathering tools and I might go for it.
Stop being so kitten greedy Anet.
The “Outmanned” buff in WvW now grants you immunity to armor damage, so if you die, you have no repair bill. This change is right up there with the end of culling and improved FPS as a WvW improvement.
I have always believed that death penalties in WvW ruin the experience for everyone as most people will not fight to the death if likely to lose, but instead choose to wp out at the last minute to avoid repair bills. This makes capturing keeps a boring routine of fighting NPC guards and then grinding a gate down…what some people are calling “PVD” or “Player vs Door.”
It also discourages cost sensitive players from participating, as it can be very demoralizing on a low pop server to constantly get killed by massive zergs and have nothing to show for it but a repair bill.
What I am seeing now is that players are willing to fight to the death to hold a keep, as they don’t have to worry about a repair bill (so long as they have that buff) and some of the fights for keeps have become extremely intense and FUN as a result.
Not only are outnumbered groups fighting to hold keeps they would normally wp out of, but they are actually winning and wiping the attackers. I have rarely seen this on my server because people so rarely stand and fight to the death. Now there is no reason not to fight to the death, as you just wp out when its over in either case…if you lose.
I hope Anet will realize they knocked it out of the park with this change and eliminate death penalties in WvW for good. They do not help in any way and only discourage the kind of risk-taking, aggressive play that is the norm in non-death penalty games.
The way most portal bombs work is the mesmer ports the group in your rear and then either he or another mesmer puts up a feedback bubble so you cant aoe them. The group will of course have retaliation and aegis with burning upon break up so anyone who aoes them is gonna be toast.
There needs to be a nerf as too how many people can port at once. Keep the portal open longer but limit it to one or two at a time to stop the abuse.
Most of the time I hit a zerg with my Barrage skill in WvW as a ranger, I do a minimum 60 percent damage to myself due to retaliation and other reflection-type skills. A good percentage of the time I will auto-gib myself and die in seconds.
That this is ridiculous is, I hope, a matter of common sense. If I told you there is a PVP game out there where every time you use one of your major abilities, you damage yourself and even die, would you play it? Of course not. Zergers should be punished for clustering together; instead I am punished for shooting at them.
It sucks that the damage I do to others with Barrage is limited to 5 people at a time, but there seems to be no limit to the amount of damage I do to myself if the enemy has retaliation up.
There is an excessive amount of retaliation, confusion and other skills that cause damage upon being attacked. The annoying feedback bubbles are everywhere now and it is impossible to tell if they are yours or the enemy’s. This is really a horrible mechanic and it would be great to see it removed from WvW altogether. If not, then these game-breaking abilities need to be severely nerfed.
In the meantime, can you fix ranger Barrage so I can actually shoot at someone without getting destroyed once in a while? I play other classes and no other class’s aoe auto-gibs them the way ranger Barrage does.
Remove feedback bubbles, retaliation, confusion and other abilities that reglect damage from WvW. As a ranger, I always injure or even kill myself firing Barrage on zergs due to retaliation, breaking aegis (causes burning if specced right) or confusion. It is hands down the most frustrating, fail mechanism I have ever encountered in a game, bar none. Instead of punishing players for clumping together it punishes you for shooting at them. Amazingly dumb idea.
If I told you there was a PVP game out there where every time you shoot at the enemy, you damage yourself, would you play it?
I am not getting credit for capturing the Stonemist Castle in WvW. I would estimate that 4 out of 5 times we cap this, I do not get credit even though I kill guards, attack the gates, kill defenders and attack the Castle lord and then stand in the circle when the castle is finally flipped.
I am not certain, but this appears to be more of a problem on my ranger than other toons, but I could be wrong about this. I just know I did get credit on my warrior one time.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I contacted tech support and as always they were completely useless. When I ask in map chat, people never respond to me but on one occasion they said did say they had experienced lag in getting the reward.
I enjoy doing 60 to 100 percent damage to myself every time I fire Barrage at a zerg in WvW. Saves the enemy the hassle of having to kill me.
I am glad that I am able to enhance the playtime of thieves who two shot me with heartseeker spam, or mesmers who can destroy me with their clones in less time than it takes me to kill one of their clones. I’m glad the thief who two-shotted me in WvW today didn’t even bother to stealth. He didn’t need to.
I am glad the developers will continue to make minor, band-aid fixes to the class over the next few years just so people can come to the forums and say “at least it’s something!” just like Blizzard did with the hunter class over 4 years.
I am glad the Elder Scrolls Online is just around the bend. Hopefully they won’t play the same game Blizznet has.

They are definitely all in that camp in LA south of the Farshore waypoint. Just finished this mission. You just have to keep asking named refugees until you find the one.
Anyone know where to get this item? It supposedly gives you unlimited uses on all types of ore. Someone linked it in LA today but when I asked where he got it he wouldn’t answer. I hope it’s not RNG.
I know that titles are a big point of pride and all, but our two choices with Nameplate options are currently “Big Ball of Text” and “Who are you again?”. Decreasing the clutter under the Nameplate would greatly improve the no-culling experience. If we wanted to see what title someone had, we’d click on them.
Agreed. WvW already looks like a label company CEO’s acid trip. The amount of text blocking the player’s view has effectively doubled. Please give us the option to turn this off.
Also please reduce the size of invader names, particularly when they die. The sea of text can make it hard to distinguish the living from the dead. The only information I want to see is the class of the enemy, but we don’t get that.

I managed to get by him. Not sure how. I think there is a dialogue option that says you’re authorized or something. Talk to the guard. After that i just waltzed by him.
Can anyone tell me specifically where to find Agent Brandubh in Black Citadel? I checked the refugee camp near the refugee coordinator just north of the Imperator’s Core, but no sign of this guy.
Also, does the Hatchery instance in Diessa Plateau require more than 1 person to do it? It doesn’t say it is a 5 man but I got swarmed by mobs in there including vets and killed repeatedly.
TY
Mike Ferguson: It’s a tough problem because it’s very based on your population. We actually want the movement to go the other way, instead of everyone crowding onto the bigger servers, we want people to be going out to the smaller servers, so we’re looking at a couple of different things – but nothing I can really talk about right now, unfortunately.
Here’s your fix Mike. Do not allow transfers to t1-4, limit character moves to once every 6 months, cap server transfers to x-players per week. easy fix
QFT. This is the solution to the bandwagoning problem.
Just curious if you play WvW for too long on one toon do you encounter DR from killing too many of the enemy? How about the NPC guards? If so how can you get rid of it?
It would be useful if it was instant cast. As it is the cast time is so slow even NPCs can maneuver out of the way in the time it takes to go off. So you rarely get those satisfying knock off the cliff shots everyone is claiming here. Most of the time it fails just like our other shots, and just knocks the target down or does nothing rather than knock them back. It should knock people down and knock them on their butts, then it might be useful.
What pets are you using underwater? I am using shark and blue jellyfish. The shark has a fear which is kind of a PITA in PVE but is great for WvW, and its F2 ability actually works without spamming. Does pretty god DPS and if he is gets in trouble switch to the jellyfish.
Ranger play in a nutshell.
My original title for this thread was: “Obstructed, obstructed, obstructed, miss, out of range, pet’s down!” But that was too long, like the cast time on rapid fire.
You can experience this shooting at a target that is within 600 range and lying downed on the ground. Pets are insta-gibbed in WVW (as are we).
This class needs more than whatever trivial buff to longbow or GS damage they feel is sufficient to shut us up. It needs a complete overhaul. Now, not next year.
Band-aids on a bullet wound is what we always get, and likely always will.
Same crap with WoW and the hunter class, which is why I am now playing this game, and not WoW, and why I will be leaving for ESO when it comes out.
Almost all our F2 skills are broken or dysfunctional. You have to spam the hell out of the key to get it to work and half the time it doesn’t work anyway. Ditto for our other pet skills that cause our pet to stand still and go through a long animation before they attack. Add to this the fact the pets are slow as hell and take forever to get to the target, can’t hit a moving target and attack at right angles rather than going straight to the target. Pets are useless by design, that is the problem.
By the time our pet abilities go off the enemy is a mile away. One second is an eternity in PVP.
Listening to the devs talk about how the ranger is the “master of long range” or that our pets are “OP” in open world it is clear they are either utterly disingenuous or out of touch with reality, take your pick.
The easiest way to control the hyperinflation in this game is with price caps. There is no need for instituting mechanics that clearly do now work to control inflation and which only cause players frustration.
There is currently a price floor on items, in that you cannot sell items on the TP for less than a vendor will pay for them ( though you can still take a loss over selling to a vendor due to the exorbitant TP fees). You can create a similar system for most items where they cannot sell for more than 5 times the vendor price, or just set a fixed maximum price for the item, and leave sellers to compete in the gap between minimum and maximum prices.
With inflation thus controlled, you can then proceed to eliminate wp costs, repair blls, DR and the other anti-player mechanisms and taxes this game is bogged down.
I can’t go into specifics to how DR works since it is a safety net system.
That’s unfortunate, because constantly having to try and figure out whether you’ve hit DR or are just experiencing the capriciousness of RNG is one of this game’s more crazy-making, anti-fun frustrations. Two bad systems, RNG and DR, combine to make the game a lot less fun than it would be without them.
Surely some guidelines as to how to avoid it are in order.
For example, does DR persist after you log out overnight in an area in which it has occurred, or do you have to leave that zone and do something else to make it go away? I don’t think the answer to this question is giving away any major secrets and having to stress about whether you are wasting your time or not due to DR is clearly anti-fun.
I disagree that getting continually knocked on my butt and being unable to fight back is “fun.” Doable, yes. Fun, no.
They have repeatedly said that the open world PvE and Story Mode dungeons are catered towards the casuals, and that the Explorable mode dungeons are meant for the hardcore players.
Where have they said that the explorable dungeons are only for hard core players? If dungeons are only for hard core players than casual players interested in doing dungeons would be well advised to avoid this game.
So, since people have been complaining incessantly about the new AC and how it completely punishes lvl 35s and how it’s completely undoable at that level now and blah blah blah blah, I figured I’d put these rumors to rest.
But since people want video evidence and I’m usually a solo player/my friends all alt-leveled to 80 (you guysssssss -_-) I’ll need YOUR help to do it.
So if you’re an experienced player and want to make a video with your level 35 alt running through AC, go ahead and send me a PM on the forums or an in-game mail.
EDIT: Apparently, we get bonus points if we do this with all Blue gear.
EDIT EDIT: Sorry, this is an NA run, forgot to Clarify.
The fact you need to come here and assemble a group of experienced volunteers to do this at level 35 says it all. If this dungeon were doable with an “average” group you could quickly assemble an average group through the usual means, go do the thing and show us the video. You know that isn’t going to work so you came here to recruit pros.
The lengths some people will go to to defend this BS is amazing.
Who would choose to remain in a guild that says “Hey guys, things are getting rough, so we want you to all pay $20 to transfer to the FotM server of our choice so we can group insta-gib outnumbered noob squads without a challenge.”
Because that is what it boiled down to pretty much.
SoS would be competitive in Tier 2 if all those guilds hadn’t fled. A few weeks of getting owned by the JQ uberhorde again and those guilds will be abandoning BG, too. I’m looking forward to experiencing balanced WvW wherever we finally settle, rather than the no strategy culling zergs of Tier 1.
Yeah, ‘cause getting knocked down and tossed around like a volleyball while being unable to fight back is as much “fun” as being Mike Tyson’s punching bag.
Are they completely oblivious to customer complaints about the absurd amounts of trash mob cc in this game?
Our feedback was that rather than face the challenge of Explorable dungeons, high skill groups would just afk faceroll the much easier story mode content for the guaranteed smaller token amount.
“Our feedback” again. Yeah, right. You have to wonder which of the 5 players in this game this applies to they got the feedback from. Few people would avoid more challenging explorables to faceroll content that gives lesser rewards (with lame diminishing returns, no less). Adding tokens gives an incentive for “high skill” groups to do the story mode for the benefit of those who haven’t done it.
Don’t pretend some huge imbalance is going to be added to the game by this, because that is absurd.
Anet’s idea of making content “challenging” is to create more adds and give them more cc. Rinse and repeat. What a surprise.
Lazy, uncreative game design at its worst.
Getting constantly knocked down by trash mobs and being unable to fight back is frustrating as hell, not fun or challenging. It’s RNG death, not a challenge. You only have two evades and a few stun breakers on long cds, and mobs can and will knock you down at the end of an evade. I can think of better forms of entertainment that involve lying on your back. This is not one of them.
The old saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies here. The new changes have made this dungeon near impossible for PUGs, especially those with lower level members.
I can’t imagine how any dungeon can be fun after you’ve done it dozens of time, let alone one’s as poorly designed as the ones in this game. So let’s be honest here and admit that for many of us, dungeons are just farms to get gear for WvW. As such I don’t want to waste any more time on them than I have to.
Please stop adding gated content. For the life of me I can’t understand why you put up so many barriers to having fun in GW2. Is this a game or job?
Just let guilds have fun and do the missions without prerequisites . How hard is that?
1. Do away with death penalties in WvW. Defenders will be more likely to fight to the death if they don’t have to worry about incurring repair bills for suicidal defenses.
2. Reduce waypoint costs. If you want to fill zones reducing the cost of traveling to them them and around them is an obvious solution.
3. Make all game currencies like PVP badges not take up bank space.
4. Option to eliminate the UI in the upper right of the screen for the Dailies, monthly and story missions. These take up space for no good reason.
5. Ability to quickly toggle between auto target on and auto target off so that you can use auto target to quickly attack targets but shut it off to quickly escape.
They didn’t say they were “fixing” culling but improving it, as we are endlessly being reminded in WvW whenever anyone complains how bad it is now. Unfortunately it hasn’t been improved that I can tell.
My impression is that they made it worse. Before, I could at least see some of the enemy and know they were there, even if I couldn’t see how large a force they had until it was too late. Now it seems like the enemy just pops out of nowhere without warning.
I was going through the water near Lowlands keep, just admiring the scenery and looking at the drakes and sharks before logging off when suddenly I got ganked by a huge zerg. The drakes in the water gave no indication anyone was there until boom, they appeared in the water out of nowhere.
Maybe I am misinterpreting what I saw, but am I correct in assuming that that if NPCs don’t immediately react to the zerg, it is not just a graphics display issue, but a coding one?
“Players receive level appropriate drops at all times. Downscaling has been fixed to where mobs are challenging no matter how far a player is downscaled, and mob AI has been updated so that lower level mobs will use more advanced tactics and abilities on downscaled players.”
Translation: mobs with more cc effects like pulls and knockdowns making it impossible to fight back and thus unfun. Hopefully I am wrong and they are not going to Orr-ify the low level zones.
“Hunters were in a very good place the whole of Cata, most of WotLK, ending of TBC.”
No, they weren’t, certainly not in PVP and they had severe bugs that could make them a liability in PVE as well. I quit WoW because my death knight with crap armor, a tanky build and virtually no experience as a death knight in PVP could faceroll hunters that were way more skilled than my hunter was. I figured if these guys couldn’t beat a crap dk (me) with no idea how to PVP properly as a dk what chance would I as a hunter have against a properly specced dk who did know how to play his class.
The auto target/auto shot bug could cause you to accidentally pull mobs and wipe your group, and there was no way to avoid it. I did a video proving the existence of this bug and showing how it worked, and that the bug could occur within as little as 3 frames of video making it humanly impossible to avoid it. That bug had been around for years and Blizzard did nothing about it other than blame the players for it.
Ranger is severely kittened and poorly designed in this game for both PVP and PVE but it is no where near as horrible as the hunter class in WoW was.
Communication by the devs in this game is poor but nothing close to the clueless arrogance Ghostcrawler was famous for.
This like being in WoW all over again. I think they hired Ghostcrawler to balance the “hunter” class and communicate with the community. OP classes are made more OP; weak classes get nerfed.
I haven’t played my ranger for a while but I couldn’t believe how weak she is compared to my warrior going against the karka. I can take on 3 karka or drakes easily with my warrior. Anything more than 1 on my ranger and my pet gets insta-gibbed.
At the very least they need to reduce the CDs on our abilities.
