I theorize the dragons believing themselves invulnerable were content to cause mayhem in their own corners of the world. I believe Mordremoth having been in control of Scarlet and aware that zhaitan has been destroyed…is not willing to move without help and plans on striking a key magic source beneath lions arch destabilizing the unified threat against the dragons and signaling to the others. Should they investigate the disturbance, upon learning of zhaitans defeat it seems likely they will cease their independent activities and unite to face the threat posed to them. I suspect at the very least one other dragon/area will be apart of the next expansion in addition to maguuma/mord and details specific to one small portion of the next expansion has been leaked to obscure the greater whole.

Rebuild Ascalon

I vote they rebuild ascalon!

Burn it to the ground. Remove it from the game. Have us reclaim it in a year or more and rebuild it in honor of the original in likeness. Makes the content feel more meaningful. Maybe the displaced char and humans can clean up and rebuild the city of ascalon as a shared location.
No. When they added them into GW no one played with each other anymore and it made Soloing the ONLY option. As it stands theres barely anything you can’t do solo anywa. even on a squishy toon so its completely unneeded.
What would be cool is if they had lions arch rebuilt in honor of its original design after its reconstruction. Start opening up Underworld and re envisioned places we loved along with fresh new areas. The more they tie this game back into the old one the stronger i’ll become committed to it. I’m hoping this is an attempt to reconnect to its roots and not run from them or destroy them all together. I have to say i’m extremely excited from what I saw and heard. But what comes of it and follows in the following months will decide things for me.
The only reason why you “like” them is because they are scarce. Same reason Legendaries were the big thing back in the days.
Soon, after everyone and their family members have their own “pseudo legendaries” (as you wrongly call them) you will consider them as meh as you consider legendaries.
Sadly, thats how human mind works; appreciate things not for what they are worth, but for how special they make you feel.
Nah, Most of these pseudo legendaries are common as hell. Its because most legendaries only fit one or two class types aside from swords. There are no casting legendaries for the necro. Bifrost and Meteorlogicus look ridiculous for a necromancer. The crossing and Eye of Rodgort though make perfect sense on a Necromancer which is why i use Eye of Rodgort event though its exceedingly more common than any legendary.
Eye Of Rodgort is 1000x better than Meteorologicus. In fact I was wondering if you can transmute an exotic skin over a legendary so i can have stat switching on my wand. I could see legendaries not allowing it though. Otherwise i’ll just transmute it over an ascended but if possible i’d have no issues justifying the cost of a legendary just for that.
I’d like to confirm performance gains most notably during high load scenarios. I see less frame dips when the action increases and it makes a notable improvement to the experience. Much appreciated. Hopefully you can get the mac client sorted for these guys soon but thank you starting to make headway in game optimization.
Exactly. My only character right now is a human and despite having uncovered a substantial portion of the map the majority of it having been done after reaching 80 means there are many zones i’d still like to go back and experience fully experiencing by leveling a different race. Its already hard enough to find people in low and mid level zones and allowing people to skip them would make leveling for beginners and alt lovers even more lonely than at present.
Camera improvements would do wonders. In addition to removing the smooth. Adjusting where camera height is centered on the character would also make a huge improvement as currently the camera is too high for asura and way to low for everyone else. This obscures a lot of upward viewing angle and really detracts from the beautiful scenery present in the game.
backed super hard
I’d leave so fast.
I just recently read an interview with a developer in the last 5 days stating that a large content update rife with all the zones, spells, dungeons, client improvements and changes traditionally associated with expansions has been under way for some time. Supposedly though between the living story in the fore ground and prepping a major content release in the back ground they feel they haven’t been able to focus enough attention on things like client improvements, & qol changes. He/she admit that living story drew too much time away for them to test many of the changes they planned to release over the last year and as a result many planned updates ended up lumped with the major content release. For these reasons future updates following the completion of the current story arch will alternate every two weeks between living story and general game improvement reducing living story to a monthly release cycle. Hoping too allow for more frequent major content release, and game optimization, while also providing living story with more time for polish and creativity. It seems these changes have been on their mind for a while but as the living story ties into the next big content release the choice to introduce these longer release cycles before its conclusion would only serve to further postpone the next major release and thus decided to keep the cycle for the remainder of the current story. I’ll try to hunt down the link asap.

I don’t see this as anything new or bad. In fact I look forward to it. Think of it as a map with open world PVP. Where you go to complete a few quests and such but have to watch your back the entire time to make sure you don’t get PK’d.
Well, that’s exactly the feeling I hate most. I gave up on Killer in college because I couldn’t focus on coursework due to worrying about little foam disks hitting me or “bombs” under my chairs … paranoia is not fun for me. I quit Age of Conan because they put the RP server on a PvP server and that was utterly toxic. I like to trust people, I guess.
Anyway, I’ll withhold judgment until I see how it all works. Hopefully they haven’t set it up so griefers can deliberately camp achievers like in the LS EBG JP achieves. I have done a lot of WvW exploration and even just fighting, it’s doable, it’s simply not fun in more than very small doses and it’s really nasty when people use it to hurt others rather than honorably compete.
WvW in GW2 is so mind blowingly tame relative to the games you just compared them too. With hundreds of automatic allies simultaneously working towards the same goals you have at the same time and the freedom from corpse camping that waypoints provide there is NO WAY IN HELL completing the event in WvW with a server to back you could compare to the frustration and helplessness possible in AOC. where you had no course of action if you wanted to explore a zone occupied by a large guild if you didn’t want to participate in one yourself.
I’ve never played an asuran character but perhaps adjusting the camera height so that it sits relative to the characters head would be ideal. This would allow a small increase for most peoples upward view while allowing for lower camera angle on asura to improve screen shot ability / character view.
Big open spaces feel closed and boxed in. The whole upper half of the game goes unseen and unappreciated because of the camera heights limiting effect on upward view. I sincerely doubt even a single player would object to the change if implemented and alternatively MANY times MANY would cheer and rejoice. There are a number of issues with the camera at the moment but i feel a few small issues could be chipped away that would bring us significantly closer to ideal and camera height is number one on that list based on its relative ease of implementation and benefit. (say compared to FOV that seems to offer up more technical issues from what I can gather from dev posts.)
Please let us look up. Let us see your wonderful game. :P
I honestly feel if you snuck it in a patch people would be scratching their heads saying… “they did something…. i’m not sure what but i really really like what that something is”
As far as recent lag is concerned all my recent traces have shown abysmal packet loss in dallas on the hops leading up to the Server but as these points do not belong to arenanet theres not much to be done. Almost 80 of my total ping comes from that one jump as well. If major backbone congestion/ issues are occurring in the dallas area we all have to pass data through to get to the GW servers that could be why a significant number of players could be suffering really bad lag right now and even more frustrating is theres not much arena net or anyone can do about it except complain to our isps and hope they get in contact with the people responsible.
If you want to try and see where your loss is happening run
pathping -w 500 -q 25 -4 64.25.39.1
in command prompt. remember packets lost along the way will show at the destination so don’t jump to conclusions if you see 50% loss server side when all of it can be accounted for in previous jumps. Also to consider is some servers drop ICMP out right and won’t respond to your pathping and this is most likely the case any time you see 100% loss or a time out. If enough of us can harass our ISPs so enough ISPs harass the parties responsible its possible we maybe be able to move things forward faster.
Like i said. I figure discussion of it now might lead to something several years down the road but i have no delusions of them revamping the game any time soon.
All you need is a few game engine companies adding support and it’ll spread because it’ll be “free” to the game developer.
I think the Plants Vs Zombies FPS is built on the Frostbite engine. I haven’t bother to see if either Source or UE4 will announced support for it.
Amd has also stated mantles design around GCN as a starting point was logical due to their familiarity but their end goal is to let Mantle take whatever shape it needs to include Nvidia and Intel so they can ensure it doesn’t get stopped dead in the water by proprietary hardware limits in their attempt to dethrone directx
it is no secret but on the other end its usually suggested to do among other things in a manner that would suggest it was a small part of the total performance gain. For reflections were likened as another obvious CPU intensive setting well known to cause performance gains when turned off. You might expect then that there would be similiar gains possible from turning either off. This isn’t the case though. I can run shadows on ultra with reflections off and keep a decent frame rate but if i turn on any amount of reflection the fps plummets, even if i turn shadows off to compensate. Before I was sacrificing a quality level on almost every setting just to keep minimal reflections. The visual loss is staggering compared to turning everything else up max and disabling reflections all together. So yeah its on the list of “possible fps saving settings” but it really should be suggested that you turn it off completely before you start lowering anything else.
I seem to hit large walls of packet loss in dallas few hops before the server. Trouble with one of the last stops we all use would explain why so many people have started having issues.
Your primary issue is you are cpu bound right now. The 7750 isn’t going to max out your settings but should perform all right if you can pair it with a better CPU. The trouble if you do get a CPU that can handle the game well your 7750 will start holding you back but if you think ahead and make sure your new board has an extra gpu slot. I get a surprising improvement from crossfire despite it not being supported and amd plans on bring frame pacing and crossfire improvements they recently release to directx9 and should benefit them even better. usually a single card choice is the better route but if you already have the one card adding another is usually easier than selling off the one. Going with out and buying a more expensive one. Still that would be like the last step in your upgrade path as an extra GPU right now with that CPU won’t help you in the slightest.
My favorite memories of guild wars was GvG. I think it would be a great addition to WvW and the present PVP options.
I have just tested bf4 with mantle and kitten just kitten i have a 20 percent increase over dx11.
Dear arena net again i would really liked if some from the net tech team could respond to this topic because this is the perfect time to update the api for gw2 because amd is pushing this thing hard. I v read somewhere that amd paid 8 million to ea to push this tech and as a fastest selling western rpg in history i would believe that amd would love to jump to this. I mean c mon even wow has a dx11 path.
this is exactly why I think choosing mantle makes a lot of sense because amd may be able to help provide the resources necessary for Anet to pull off an api overhaul that they might otherwise have wait years for if they choose directx. With AMDs grip on the console market and their plan to leverage mantle to maximize performance on said consoles as well as PCs it will make sense for Nvidia to embrace whatever performance gains the API may offer for their own hardware with the hundreds of next gen console ports that will support it so they won’t find themselves having to compensate for the over head by offering 20% more horse power at the same price point only just to net the same real world results on PC’s and Steambox utilizing their hardware. With AMDs expressing a plan to approach NVIDIA along with Intel and others and declaring a willingness to let mantle take whatever shape it needs (including a mutually reagreed upon name) to get the hardware support necessary to give it a winning shot at taking on dx I see this as a really good chance to gain buzz for the game, ensure its longevity, spark new interest, bring in new players and back old ones. I see this as part of an expansion/major update down the road sort of thing if it were to happen but I don’t think it would hurt if ArenaNet at least approached them and said “so we keep hearing about this mantle”
overhauls aren’t simple but they happen all the time and often become inevitable. I’m not saying “do it now or ill be anrgy” but there are a lot pros to starting soon. Even if they feel its best to wait though a time will come where they will have to start thinking about it and mantle offers an interesting advantage for wvw where the performance gains are most dramatic (48%) in scenarios with lots of on screen characters (40+) while still delivering a significant 15% improvement in single player like content. This is with first release of mantle, very beta mantle drivers, and dices first mantle patch. Given maturation this could be big for WvW where players struggle the most allowing one of the games best elements to really shine. Its at least worth considering. XP is finally starting to fall off after all these years in user numbers and its actually happening pretty fast. Dx11 or Mantle. I’ll be happy, but as of now it (seemingly) undecided, i cast my vote for mantle and if enough others do so as well maybe they will consider it.
its most beneficial in cpu limited applications. Guild Wars 2 is most notably CPU intensive and would seems a likely candidate to benefit. Currently they are looking to help developers interested in using Mantle technology making the present a good time to get involve if they are willing to offer assistance. They plan on announcing an initiative to work with nvidia/intel to bring support to their graphics architectures so their new API will have a shot at competing with dx. Meaning, time invested in early adoption would not be to the exclusion of nvidia card owners and would benefit all your players hitting a cpu bottleneck and opening the door to players with lower end computers. As much magic as they pull of with dx9, the game needs an api upgrade of some sort soon if it can net them large fps gains in the process why not go that path.

just tried again. same thing. i give up.
Same thing again today. The once a day thing doesn’t apply because i’ve never received a chest for the event once yet despite severing chains in several successful events. Incredibly Disappointing to say the least.
(edited by CursedShaitan.9720)
Same. Just went through the event for the first time after reset. No achievment, no chest, no nothing. Helped sever to chains as well and twice my entire skill bar froze up entirely (wouldn’t even queue like it would if it was lagging). Pretty disappointing. First scarlet living story event i’ve taken part in and I don’t think ill be trying it again.
I just went through the event severed a link.. dc’d in the middle got back in the over flow. severed another link. completed the event. No achievement, no chest, no nothing its like i wasn’t even there.
Swap on the go, and it doesn’t take over your inventory. Like if I have one armor set that focuses more on vitality, when the other is more on power, ect.
What do you think?
I’m not sure I get your suggestion. Do you want to be able to swap the stats on items, like from Berserker to Soldier? Or do you want templates, were you save your current build? Or is it something totally different?
Something like template slots, where you can customize your gear, then you press a button and it swaps to it. Like weapon swapping as it is now or the weapon swap in GW1.
Armor and skill point maps would be nice. Would allow for easier build experimentation.
Bad idea. A global damage nerf just makes everything harder for everyone.
What’s the point of having Ascended gear if you’re going to just nerf everybody anyway?
If your complaint about people with lots of toughness getting downed quickly is truly valid and not just something made up then they should consider a global defense/damage-mitigation buff on players, not a global damage nerf to make everything in PvE harder causing us all to spend more gold dying and repairing, more time trying to kill a boss, and more resources grinding along the gear treadmill. Boooooo.
Don’t be ridiculous. Something as extreme as a heavy blanket nerf to damage would mandate PVE mob and boss health adjustment. Don’t get bent out of shape thinking omg damage nerf equals slower dungeon crawls. The player damage output possible in relation to player hp and armor needs to go down one way or another. WoW at one point had this problem. PVP was all one shots so it was really just about who fired first and nothing else. So they scaled down damage and mob health and suddenly pvp fights lasted longer than 5 seconds and everyone had to think about more than dps with out any noticeable change to PVE content. Doesn’t need to be done in the same manner but somehow player on player damage needs to go down so fight times and strategy can go up.
Quick update:
Happy new year everyone! Now that we’re back from holiday vacations, we’ve got more improvements that’ll be rolling out soon. A handful of client improvements will also be making their way (soon hopefully), that should see a drastic memory usage drop and client frame-rate improvements, especially for lower-end hardware.
I’ll make sure to update once I have a better idea of what release you can start seeing these changes trickle in.
-Bill
Thank you. I have many friends who were fans of the first game who’s systems are just out of reach of playable. Many of the casual players in your target market have a “casual” gaming computer budget that your game just doesn’t get along with. Every step towards bringing that around is a good one. Maybe I can start recommending it soon to my friends with modest machines if everything pans out.
I just spent what feels like forever saving the damask for shadow of grenth and it clips terribly with the Arah light shoulders. If i remove the shoudlers i’m not actually seeing any clipping with the grenth hood and the back piece like mentioned in this thread so i’m hoping it was read and delt with but its really bad with arah mantle and i feel kind of bummed i could have made a different ascended piece first that didn’t glitch out on the part of my character i have to look at most.
Edit. So i hide the hood and realized there was more to the backpiece so yes the hood clips as well. as of right now it clips with my preferred shoulders and hood.

Request #237654
email never came. was not in any spam filter/folder either. The account is intended for use by sig other but was purchased by me and all reciept / serial information is in my email address that is registered to the account i’m posting from and play with. As i set up the account with out creating a character and she has sadly not yet had a chance to play i’m the only person that has access to proof of ownership. For these reason along with my familiarity with the game, support and the fact that she can’t get access to the website account either to post on the forums is why i am speaking on her behalf. She is more than happy to respond to any inquiry she receives from from her email address but so far as not even received her reset email. Ill forward her the receipt info but she is too mad and doesn’t want to waste anymore time on it. I’m just hoping if i can get it straightened out she will be willing to give the game/company another shot. Either way. Send her reset. we’ve been checking her email every few hours for days now.

To make it clear, I don’t blame those working in support. Its not their fault they are under equiped. It is their managements fault.

I understand that there are many time many people submitting tickets, I understand support may be doing their best with the resources they have but ultimately its ANETS job to staff their support team adequately enough to respond to the volume of support requests they get. If the volume of computers coming into my shop climbs, and I suddenly can’t maintain a maximum turn around of two days I hire more people because the INDUSTRY has set a standard of expectation and I would lose business if i made excuses as to why i cant meet that standard. Even if its unfair that my small 4 man operation is expected to perform on par with companies thousands times bigger I do because its my only choice. Even if it means eating some of my personal profit to hire that person or having to spend eternity digging through the budget to afford it. Customer support is the WORST PLACE to be penny pinching. Im not asking for the impossible, i’m asking for the bare minimum and its not even being close to getting met. Maybe you don’t remember what its like resetting a password in other games because its so fast and simple there was nothing to remember. Its a totally different experience i promise you.

She can’t log into the game, with her email address and password. We registered the serial with her email address on the 11th of Novemeber and then logged out. We don’t remember the random numbers at the end of her account name anyways because we only looked at it for a split second. She can’t log into the forums either. Its been 2 days, I sent the second one after 12 hours which was already 10 hours longer than acceptable. It won’t matter on the third day because she plans to buy a new game and start tonight if she gets no response. If the support team is under staffed i feel bad for them but that doesn’t excuse the problem. Waiting more than a few hours to get a response for a password reset is positively insane.

I bought an account and built a gaming computer better than my own so i could get my girlfriend to play with me in November. She was swamped with work though and wanted to wait until the new year to start playing. A few days ago we used the only password she has ever used for the past 2 years and the same one we though we picked for her account and its not working. She can’t log into the game. We never created a character so the reset form is useless to us. We’ve sent several(2) support tickets and 2 days later not so much as a response(human response that is). Not in the email i sent the ticket from, not in her email the account is registered too. Not in any folder or spam filter anywhere. At this point shes threatening to not play at all even if it gets sorted. I’d like a chance to convince her otherwise but at this rate its looking grim.

it can’t be done now as it is. Sorrows furnace server.
That age old question
“How to make a wall bleed” … Seriously.. your shocked that objects cannot bleed -.-
No, he is shocked that a significant number of classes and players dependent on a MAJOR damage mechanic that effects a huge number of skills are given no alternative ways to do damage in a regularly occurring scenario with out changing builds in a game that claims you can contribute by “playing the way you want”. You knew that though but since you had nothing worth while to contribute you decided to be a smart kitten instead. If you want there to still be people to play with in 6 months time you better be shocked wood doesn’t bleed. Not to mention their are about a million ways to address the lack of realism… call the conditions splinter, rot, & termites for all i care. It doesn’t matter so long as its balanced. ITS AN MMO, if water not burning causes an imbalance you fix no matter how unrealistic water burning is. If rocks bleeding is an imbalance you fix it no matter how unrealistic because imbalance is the fastest road to game death aside from bugs and MMOS are far from the exception to that rule… more so they are the greatest demonstration of that fact in existence.

so not removed. just de-stickied….i’ve seen enough. thanks for your’e response. much appreciated.
was it removed because he voiced criticism? I really really hope there is a more valid reason because that would be one of the pettiest moves i’ve ever seen a game company make. Any clue why it was removed? Any reason given?
Its pay to not get bored. Personally saving the 600 gold to level my crafting for ascended armor & weapons that look like crap isn’t worth the boredom but I don’t consider my toon complete unless hes wearing maxed out equipment. Doesn’t matter if its a single point. hes not done until his stats are maxed. so i’m going to gem store everything. If it was actually cool looking like obsidian armor and required significant effort, many dungeon clears, and a final clear just to craft. I would consider it worth grinding for but I’m not spending that kind of time on stats that according to the gw manifesto should be easy to get anyway. Nothing that takes that much time to farm should look that ugly. Why all the ascended armor looks like cheap decorations is beyond me.
I’d take my old obby armor, low res and poly count and everything over any ascended gear they’ve released.
(edited by CursedShaitan.9720)
So 6 days and they are still pretending this didn’t happen? No response no nothing?
Anet counts on people to switch professions. They are IMO following the LoTRO model for MMO’s. Make a profession so good that everyone wants to play it so they start one. Few months nerf it and boost another so they stop that one and move to another. So, obviously this is my opinion but, I have been playing MMO’s a long time and Anet started out with good intentions on professions but someone got fired or hired who has the mind set of the boost and nerf system. For most people it is not exciting to invest a lot of time into gear type for a profession to only have it nerfed in a few months. So, if you love the game what do you have to go do now? Reinvest more time into another gear set that is most likely going to see a nerf in a few months.
It is a cycle all to familiar and Anet has proven to be no different.
This is upsetting. I bought this game to play a necro and only a necro. I will not under any circumstances level another class. I’ve played MMOS for many years and i’ve grown tired of most of it. There is really only one thing that continues to entertain me these days and that’s playing attrition type necro class’s. I’d rather have 6 necro/lock type characters in 6 different games or even 6 necros in one game than play 6 different classes int he same game. I know for fact a significant portion of people play mmos to play their class type of preference and only dabble when their preferred class is broken and are just waiting for a balance. If it comes or not usually defines weather or not they stay. Forcing people to cycle classes in order to keep game play fresh instead of coming up with new content and skills is a cheap and ineffective way to keep your player base sticking around. There should be enough content and class innovation going around to keep single class players happy or arena net is in for a rude awakening that i’d rather they just avoid. At the end of the day no matter how frustrated i’m getting with the game i’m still rooting for them and want this game to succeed because i really believe it has a chance to be something long lasting and special in the mmo community. At present though some serious course correction is called for to keep that a possibility.
Try disabling best texturing filtering. Its got a very high frame cost on my system (23 fps) and does very very little visually to the game when turned on compared to every other setting. Try running everything else max’d and switch back and forth between best texture filtering. If it behaves for you like it does for me i suspect you’ll have no probably running with it off and not feeling like you’ve had to sacrifice anything.
The 965 will perform more than admirably in much of the game but contrary to statements i’ve made in the past it does have limitations, primarily in larger WvW battles. There was a period where this same chip performed significantly worse in game and developed a lot of undeserved negative stigma that I felt needed undoing after a patch came through that significantly increased my performance far beyond what was considered possible at the time. Based on my limited wvw experience I got a little over zealous in my defense of the chip but after several days of some serious testing i’ve got to admit when I was wrong and will confess that if one plans to get into serious WvW you should grab an Intel Proc and Mobo now or wait till mid February for AMD’s next gen processors to launch if you would prefer to stick with them. If you are currently suffering game breaking performance in other areas currently and want to stick with amd the 965 will do you well and the savings over an fx-8350 and new mobo will be enough to grab you something from their next gen line up in a few months. Little bit of a waste in the long run but i still see it as a smarter move than dropping the money now and getting minimal improvement over a 965 at a fairly hefty price increase. Hopefully it won’t always be this way but intel really is your simplest option at the moment if you have the money to spend on them.
