Ele is probably the hardest class to level in PvE because we have the defense of a piece of paper and hit like a wet noodle. As others have said, regardless of your weapon set, sitting in fire is not the best way to survive at low levels – you’ll want to use the blinds in air, the chills in water, and the bleeds and cripples in earth to control your enemies. Even with all that, yes, you’re going to be putting in 2-4 times the effort killing a group of mobs (2x most classes , 4x ranger, guardian, warr) – but my ele is my favorite because she’s just so much fun!

On an ele, you’ll probably want a balance of power and toughness-focused gear as your leveling – you’re not going to be able to just faceroll everything in armor with power stats. You’ll also want to trait defensively to start, then add more firepower in when you get to higher levels.

For skills, pick up Arcane Shield, Mist Form, and Glyph of Lesser Elementals as soon as you can. The glyph will give you a summonable facetank in water and earth attunements and a little bit more DPS (but not as durable) in fire and air. Arcane shield and mist form are two defensive (get outta jail free for a second) skills. All three of your healing skills (the 6 skill) are decent and are a matter of preference. If you like staff or scepter, also pick up Arcane Wave for another blast finisher for combos.

Self-comboing is an important concept for the staff, scepter/dagger, and scepter/focus skill sets. Some of your skills will produce AoE “fields” of a certain element, and then other skills act as a “finisher” that will pick up some effect based on the field that the finisher is used in. The wiki has more information on combos.

For traits, I would recommend putting 5 in Water first for some passive regen while in water attunement, then if you like to swap attunements put10 points in Arcane to pick up the “Elemental Attunement” major trait, then another 5 in Water. Otherwise, put 10 in water and then focus on either Earth (if you want more defense) or Fire (offense).

Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions!

While I don’t spend a lot of time on Darkhaven, I can certainly say that Tarnished Coast is a great server for PvE. As Chrazel mentioned, there are still lots of people around in many zones, so you’ll run into other people doing the same events as you. Also, a lot of the players on TC are pleasant and helpful, so you shouldn’t be afraid to ask if you have any questions.

Rares (or even masterwork, if you aren’t going to be looking for champs/other challenging material to solo) should be fine for open-world PvE content. But you will notice a difference between rare and exotic gear should you ever decide to put in the investment.

Some things you could pursue are

  • 100% map completion
  • Diving goggles: 37 locations around Tyria – put on the goggles and dive in to the water below! (guide at Dulfy)
  • Completing all the jumping puzzles
  • Completing all the mini-dungeons (Titles are on the Exploration tab of achievements) – these are not instanced dungeons, they’re more like puzzles
  • Spend time on your favorite map, wandering around, learning all the events, and helping newer players
  • Leveling an alt or two
  • Do events that give a guaranteed rare upon completion (dragon generals, Maw, etc)
  • Grind for weapon/armor skins (though this typically involves saving up gold or doing dungeons)

Hey Willowpaw! Have you tried http://www.gw2lfg.com for dungeon runs? I use it frequently when I can’t find others in the Legion to get a group for dungeons, often with great success. The only downside I see is that the quality (attitude-wise) of some of the players is questionable for some of the most popular dungeons.

Unfortunately, the LFG tool in-game is rather weak and only local to the map you’re in, so if you’re in Black Citadel or Plains of Ashford looking for people for the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon, and there are others in Lion’s Arch (or on a different server) looking for people for the same dungeon, you won’t see each other.

Also, would you like an invite to the Legion in-game? A large portion of our members like dungeons and are happy to hop on runs if they aren’t busy with something else.

While I’m on a T2 server myself (yeah, lots of zerging there too), I would recommend checking out Ferguson’s Crossing – a few of my guildmates on that server are in WvW most of the time they are logged in, and from what I hear the battles are a lot smaller (soloing camps, small skirmishes, or even 3v15s defending a tower).

Our guild, The Legion of Honour, is multi-server and doesn’t have a particular WvW focus, but you would be more than welcome to join. I could also put you in touch with the guys on FC to see if they could recommend a guild for you if you do want to move to a small but feisty server.

Hi Shippo!

While we don’t have much of a WvW team on SoS, I invite you to check out The Legion of Honour. We are a multi-server guild with Guild Bounties, Treks, and soon Rushes unlocked on our NA hub on Tarnished Coast. Our main focus is to provide a fun and friendly community that – while you don’t have to rep 100% (so you could join an SoS WvW guild) – will feel like home when you do rep. We have a variety of events throughout the week including map exploration, dungeons (pretty much any time 5+ people are on), guild missions, and even jumping puzzle nights!

Hi Ary!

The Legion of Honour is a cross-server guild with membership on almost every server. Our main NA hub on Tarnished Coast has access to Guild Bounties and Treks and will have Rushes available in early May. You are welcome to stay on SoR or move to TC if you happen to join, and it will not impact what rewards you get from these guild activities. Our focus is to build a community where home server doesn’t matter and where you’re not expected to rep 100% of the time, but when you do rep, you’ll feel at home. Our members are constantly forming groups to go out to explore PvE and run dungeons, and we also have some people that WvW and PvP.

You’re welcome to check us out in our Players Helping Players thread, Operation: Union, and our guild website http://operationunion.enjin.com.

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

I’m on Tarnished Coast and I love it! We have a great, relaxed community, often clear end-game content (temples and dungeons), and map chat is generally a friendly place to hold a conversation. Server prime time runs from 17:00 EDT/14:00PDT – 4:00 EDT/1:00 PDT, so we’re pretty busy for most of the day. And our WvW (open world PvP-type) commanders are excellent at working with those outside their guild or even new to WvW.

If you want something a little less populated, I would suggest Ferguson’s Crossing – I have friends over there and can definitely tell the difference in population when I guest over. Maguuma is also a good choice with fewer people.

I frequently use gw2lfg.com to find a group or fill up a group my friends and I start. But if you’re looking for people to play open world PvE, WvW, or PvP content with, maybe try looking at joining a guild. There’s also Operation: Union here on the forums that has a list of friendly players!

Yep, there are a number of us on the NA side who call Tarnished Coast our home. On that same list you’re looking at, those who are on the same server as you will have their locations listed in white, and it will be a map such as Lion’s Arch, Gendarran Fields, Blazeridge Steppes, etc. Those who are not on the same server will have their server name listed in orange (Tarnished Coast, Gunnar’s Hold, Piken Square, etc).

This isn’t completely reliable, because if someone is guesting it will show their current location – so when I guest to Ferguson’s Crossing for a major event because I was sent to overflow on TC, all my guildmates will see Ferguson’s Crossing. But it helps!

I would suggest that if you are looking for people to play with over in EU, don’t hesitate to whisper players on other EU servers – chances are they’ll be able to guest over if they’re free. A list of server names (and if they’re EU or NA) is available on the wiki.

I have a thief, elementalist, and necromancer at 80, and a ranger at 30, and I spend most of my time participating in open-world PvE content and running dungeons. I’ll just stick to my opinion on them in PvE.

Elementalist: My first 80 and my main, so I am a bit biased towards them. Their survivability comes from your active defenses (positioning, dodging, use of healing skills, use of summonable elementals via utilities) and are not build to absorb hits as you level (read: enemies will punch through you like paper). Killing stuff usually involves running around in a circle (circle strafing) and using many skills to both CC and damage your enemies, but killing speed depends more on your preferred weapon set, with Dagger/Dagger being the fastest single-target direct damage dealer and Staff being excellent at far range AoE. I find that I enjoy having to think on my feet and use my 25 skills (5×4 attunments + utilities) to do as well as I can, but that means I’m pressing a lot more buttons than some other classes. With the right spec you can enjoy perma-swiftness at a low level (and if you are lazy, you have a 25% speed signet), so you can run around a map very quickly. Build variety is a little lacking, but also, one trait distribution (at 80) can let you use whatever weapon set.

Necromancer: Excellent survivability (as noted by Wolfgang). Killing speed is dependent on your build, of which there are several (approximately) equally effective ones for open-world PvE, and is probably slower than a D/D ele but faster than a staff or scepter ele. While I don’t enjoy my necro as much as some of my friends like theirs, I understand that it is an enjoyable class and has interesting mechanics. You also have a 25% movement speed signet, so exploration is pretty fast, and you’ll have less troubles with challenging skill points than an ele just because you have more survivability (mes in Snowden Drifts, I’m looking at you!).

Ranger: Very strong for open world PvE. The right pet/weapon selection can get you oodles of survivability, or you can focus on more DPS. You have an excellent heal at your disposal, as well. Your weapons focus more on direct damage than either ele or necro, so you will take things down faster, but you will have to rely on traps or your pet for CC. I personally found ranger to be the most boring of all 4 mentioned classes (since you easily can get to 80 by pew-pewing things in the face with a bow while your bear holds them in place), but I know many fervent lovers of their ranger. Rangers have a lot of access to speed buffs through swiftness and their 25% movements speed signet, and their pet gives them an automatic facetank, so exploration on them is swift and relatively easy.

Thief: While I leveled my thief with a guardian for the most part, one of my guildmates is leveling up to 80 mostly solo and is loving it. Like elementalist, your survivability comes from your mobility and your use of stealth, blinds, and stuns to prevent damage from happening, but you have access to more direct DPS. You’ll take down most things faster than an ele or necro, but maybe not quite as fast as a ranger because you won’t have a pet to attract aggro. I’ve noticed that while on my ele and necro I can think of a use for every skill I have, with thief sometimes I find myself just spamming the same skill over and over again (but that’s because they can), so it’s a little different. As far as exploration goes, again, 25% movement speed signet means you move around faster, but your ability to use stealth means that the challenge of avoiding tough encounters to grab a POI or a skill point is trivialized.

Interesting Events

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Some of my guildmates and I stumbled upon an event chain in Fields of Ruin that ended with us clearing the large ogre encampment just east of Ebonhawke and killing the leader. End result was the higher level characters (my level 65-70 engi) getting one of those 1/day/account/event rares like they do now for the dragons as well as another chest of loot in the ogre leader’s room. I don’t know what the starting event is, though, or how long the quest chain actually is. It’s a great chain for a group of mixed-level players since FoR is only a level 30-40 area.

Then, of course, there are the temples. My personal favorite is the Cathedral of Zephyrs (Temple of Dwayna), since you end up meeting Malchor along the way and it’s not a zergfest (and is doable with about 10 people, I think). The final boss fight also is interesting and rewards good dodging.

Guild Missions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

If I remember correctly, you can only get commendations if you do a mission while representing a guild on your home server. Guesting won’t help.

So both the mission and you have to be on Desolation, you won’t get any commendations on Underworld until you transfer there.

That was a bug that was fixed a few weeks ago. My guild has members on many servers, but they guest to TC for Guild Bounties and receive the personal rewards of commendations and rares just like any member who calls TC their home.

So even though you are on Desolation and this guild is based in Underworld (assuming I’m reading that correctly), you can guest to Underworld, represent the guild running the bounty (since guilds aren’t completely server-specific, just their influence and upgrades are), and participate in the bounty to receive commendations.

The one thing that I have heard that might be an issue is that if you are guesting to help your guild with a Guild Trek you won’t be able to see the Trek location list, but you will be able to still go to those locations to get your guild credit. I haven’t personally confirmed/denied this though.

Very interesting. I just blew all my money on some pet projects, but I will definitely try this in the group I regularly run with when I have the money to buy the sigils and runes. I already have zerkers ascended rings and amulet, so I’ll probably tweak the other gear a bit for some toughness. My normal group contains Guard+Ele(me)+Ranger+Warr, which seems like an ideal comp for this build. I’ll report back when we get some Fractal/CoF/other dungeon runs done… probably give me a week or two for gearing and that.

Cheapest profession for power leveling?

Whenever I use crafting to get myself some quick levels, I consult the dynamic guide that Xanthic created. It uses the gw2spidy data to tell you what’s better to craft versus buy outright for each and every craft. Artificer (potions), Chef, and Jeweler tend to be cheaper in general. Check the guides out at http://www.gw2crafts.net/.

That being said, the mid-tier material markets right now are pretty awful if you’re looking to craft your way from 0-80 straight.

What's a good evasive class?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Thief and Mesmer both have a great amount of mobility and evasive maneuvers, but I’d also recommend checking out a dagger/dagger elementalist.

From a PvE perspective, thieves give you the flexibility to trait for solid damage while throwing in some blinds and dazes (offhand pistol comes to mind) that can shut down anything that doesn’t have Defiance – and lets you have some crazy mobility (sword, dagger, SB,…). I haven’t spent a lot of time on my mesmer, but I see a lot of potential for moving around enemies and giving you lots of escapes while doing decent damage. Dagger/dagger eles are paper thin and do a bit less damage than the other classes at low levels, but they have a very mobile move set (less than thief and the many shadowsteps, but more than mes) and have some great CC in the way of stuns/immobilizes and freezes as well as durability through their own CC removal and healing.

Is my ele's PvE build good?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Yes, documented on wiki. Go to the PvP area and try it out for yourself! If you run Superior Runes of Monk and Water with a Superior Sigil of Battle, then you’re pretty much guaranteed a permanent 9 stacks of might.

Note that the Sigil of Intelligence was bugged for a very long time and may very well still be bugged – for that sigil, attunement change doesn’t count as a weapon swap.

Really having trouble finding an alt...

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

I love my elementalist as well and enjoy both staff and D/D.

As far as other classes go, if you want something to jump into melee and do lots of useful stuff, guardian is your best bet. I also enjoy my thief for PvE content – both D/D and S/P are fun melee sets that make you think about your positioning in a battle, and SB is great for positioning and party utility. While she’s not at 80 yet, I am learning to have fun my engi with loads of different kits (flamethrower/grenades/elixir gun right now) plus a rifle for more melee oomph and mobility, though I didn’t like the class very much for the first 39 levels. I have a warrior and a necro at 80 as well, and I find them both very boring compared to the ele.

Best of luck finding an alt profession! Overall, I think you really do have to level any profession up to level 40+ in order to see how well you’ll like them – those low levels don’t give you enough skills/traits to understand the synergies between them that you’ll love at level 80.

Fractals of the Mist: questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

1) Yes, implemented in the late-January patch. It really helped get some people back into fractals and made progression through odd levels a lot easier (since you could just go the next-highest even level, which is more desirable for loot). Also implemented was the ability for people to rejoin fractals if they lost their connection or otherwise exited the dungeon.

2) 5 AR will get you through fractal level 19 comfortably as long as you are smart about healing and dodging. If you want to facetank everything, then you’ll want more AR. At fractal level 20, the agony attacks get a huge buff, and at that point you’ll want 10 AR to have a very small chance at surviving most (but not all) of those attacks and 15 AR to be hit by the same damage as you would be at 0 AR in level 10-19 fractals. The table on the wiki probably explains it better.

3) Not many changes to the fractals themselves – some bugfixes, but that’s it.

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Check out Glyph of Elemental Power instead of Signet of Fire (think about this: Meteor storm or Glyph of Storms + burning), and also look into Arcane Wave – that blast finisher is awesome with all the fields that a staff ele gets.

Trait-wise, swap out Earth XII for Earth VIII (20% longer bleeds) or possibly Earth IV (5% more damage to bleeding enemies – I think even when not in earth attunement).

And if you don’t have a sigil you love, get yourself a Major/Superior Sigil of Battle (2/3 stacks of might (20sec) on [attunement] swap, internal cooldown of 9 seconds) for more might-stacking awesomeness.

Is my ele's PvE build good?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

First, two questions: what sigil are you using, and what 6-0 skills do you use most often?

My ele runs the 0/10/0/30/30 spec and uses zerker’s/knight’s gear so I can switch from a staff powerhouse to a D/D or S/D aurasharer at will, but I have some friends that run some variation on 30/x/30/x/x and those are viable builds.

It seems like you are trying to mix a condi ele with a bit of a signet build, but I’m not sure how well those two mesh together for you without knowing your 6-0 skills. You are doing a great job on maxing out your condition damage except in your ascended gear (sorry, I know that stuff is a pain to get). A P/T/V back isn’t a bad choice for survivability, but your rings are sub-optimal. As NinjaEd said, you either want to stack precision (in addition to your condition damage, which would require a complete redo of your gear for little change in your DPS) or avoid it. Similarly, unless you truly believe that the +% MF really helps your drops, scrap that in favor of more Power/Cond Dmg/Toughness/Vitality.

Staff is a good weapon for condition damage builds, as is Scepter/Dagger (plus carry a focus for situational use). Dagger/Dagger is usually considered a weaker weapon set for pure condition builds, but is good for a signet/aura build.

As far as traits go, if you want to go for more condition damage, check out Earth IV and Earth VIII. If you happen to use a lot of cantrips, then check out Fire IV, as well. If you use solely signets, then you may want to look into running a signet/aura build when you use scepter/dagger, scepter/focus, or dagger/dagger, which makes use of Fire IX, Earth II, Earth V and Earth XII – traiting 10 into Air for the Air I major trait also boosts this signet/aura build even more.

Overall, great job on boosting your damage while maintaining some survivability.

I'm a terrible warrior

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

I’m sure someone has the build made up on one of the character builder sites, but here’s an overview of how I learned the glass-cannon (or near-glass-cannon) warrior:

Weapons: Greatsword/Rifle while you’re learning new content. GS has great DPS, the rifle has decent DPS at range while you’re taking a breather and letting your endurance regen because you’ve dodged too much. When more comfortable, go with Greatsword/Axe+Mace. There’s a lot of sigils you’ll want to play around with, but while you are gearing up, go for Major Sigils of Battle, Bloodlust, and Force (or a Ruby Orb) distributed such that you won’t have more than one of each equipped over all of your on-land or in-water weapons (yes, I know I’m simplifying here). You’ll eventually upgrade to superior versions on your exotic weapons, but the major ones still help!

Armor: Start with a balance of knight’s and zerker’s armor. If you keep on dying, swap in a bit more knight’s, then work your way up to getting used to more berserker’s while acquiring more exotics.

While working in masterwork and rare gear, give yourself a little more oomph by getting some Crests of the Shaman, or, if they’re cheap, Crests of the Soldier. If you are having issues surviving, swap out your currently rare berserker’s chest, legs, or helm for a (even masterwork if rare is too expensive) knight’s piece, but save your zerker’s stuff for when you are more comfortable.

For a very long time my Exotic armor was Knight’s Chest, Legs, and Head with Zerker’s Shoulders, Gloves, and Boots, and to min-max the balancing, I used emerald jewelry and put in exquisite ruby jewels. I’m moving to more berserker’s gear now, but that’s because I’m getting more used to where to move/stand to avoid attacks. The wiki has a table about how many stat points you give up on a piece of armor for 1% crit damage on exotic level 80 gear. If you don’t plan on having a decent guard in your party, aim toward a full set of Superior Runes of the Soldier for your armor (starting again with Crests of the Shaman/Solider while farming gold). If you do plan on having a decent guard, then slotting your armor with Ruby Orbs will give you even more oomph.

Traits: If I recall correctly, a GS offense warrior trait distribution is based around 20/30/0/0/0. I prefer 20/30/0/0/20 myself.

Utilities: should be (6) Healing Surge, (7) For Great Justice, (8) either Shake it Off or Frenzy (not sure if it’s still in vogue after the recent patch), (9) either Banner of Discipline, Banner of Strength, or On My Mark, and (0) Signet of Rage. Pretty much use 7, 9, and 0 whenever you can, 6 whenever needed, and 8 as needed if SiO or 8 whenever safe if Frenzy.

General combat: Enter melee using GS 3, 5, or even Bull’s Charge if you run it; stay in melee for as long as you can while activating GS 2 whenever possible; GS 3, run, or dodge out of melee when you start feeling the pain, switch to rifle, use rifle 1 and 3 all the time, 2 and 4 when you want the cc. When your endurance and health are back up, enter melee again.

Other tips: Line of Sight EVERYTHING! The bane of the full glass warr is spread out ranged enemies, so run around a corner so that they have to chase you to have a clear shot at you. I know it’s not much of an accomplishment, but my glassy warr “tanked” CM story because we LoS’ed all of those ranged bandits to get them to clump in melee.

Yeah, oversimplified, but I hope it helps! Ping me in-game if you’d like!

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Yes and no.

You can redistribute trait points at any time. You will earn 70 trait points as you level to 80, and you will invest them in a distribution of 5 trait lines. You can then switch around your Major Traits whenever you want. If you want to redistrubite into different trait lines, just talk to your profession trainer (found in every city and 1-15 starting zone) and select the second conversation option to reset your traits for a small fee. Traits increase your attributes as well as give you little perks.

Your skills you permanently unlock and then temporarily assign to your 6-0 slots. You can assign skills whenever you are out of combat and the skill is not in its cooldown period after use. On top of gaining a skill point every level (after level 5 or so), you will also find small events in the world that give you more skill points. There is no way to refund skill points. Eventually you will just unlock every skill, and then you’ll start accumulating skill points to help with some extra (mainly end-game) content.

Take a look in the Operation: UNION thread to see a list of friendly players that may be interested. While there may not be many on Piken Square, I know there are quite a few on GH and AG on the list!

Alternatively, look for another guild to join. The beauty of guilds in this game is that you can join up to 5 and represent (iearn influence for and be in guild chat with other members) whichever one you want. I would obviously suggest my guild, the Legion of Honour, as it is a multi-server guild, but also take a look in the Guilds forum here on GW2.com.

Hope you enjoy your thiefling! Currently my thief is one of my favorite characters (for PvE, even)!

Greatsword/Rifle warrior or Greatsword/Longbow (for AoE tagging) warrior are probably your best bets as most open world PvE content can be sliced through quickly with their DPS.

If you want something with a bit more interest (less DPS for more CC), maybe try a Sword&Pistol/ranged weap thief. Necromancer is also an interesting choice and there are several viable PvE builds out there – check out the videos on Youtube by iamoneandiamlegion.

Elementalist, Mesmer, and Engineer – while GREAT fun – do require a bunch of attunement/weapon/kit swapping and cooldown awareness. With the latest patch, you may be able to get away with using a more turret-focused Engi, but you’ll still at least want one kit (probably toolkit to support the turrets) just so you’re not sitting on auto-attack waiting for something to come off cooldown. I haven’t played a guardian, so I can’t speak to their feel or efficacy in PvE.

All in-game timers (that the players cannot see) are reset, so all of your favorite online timer tools are thus rendered inaccurate. Any follow-up patches also reset the in-game timers. Give it a few hours for things to reset or do some community service and camp a boss for your server!

Looking for a fix team to run dungeon, IOJ

You could also look for dungeon group listings on http://gw2lfg.com. This website is a tool that enables players to post that they are looking for a group for a dungeon or need just a few more people to fill their group. You may want to look for a group that has newer players in it, or may want to let your group know that it’s your first time running the dungeon so you would appreciate any instructions they can give – otherwise people will assume you know what you’re doing. I regularly use it to hop in on runs or get a fifth person to fill up a guild group.

Hi Orric! Operation: Union, another thread on the GW2 forums, has a list of friendly players. Check that for players that are on Devona’s Rest or have similar interests. While some of the players listed in that thread have joined the guild that has sprung up out of its efforts, you do not need to join it to be able to call on friendly players.

Welcome Dvanta, Little Old Lady, and Ali! Invites sent. See you in-game!

Also, I’d like to invite EVERYONE (yes even the people who haven’t posted yet in this thread but were curious enough to click to see what kind of thread gets to over 1600 posts and 22000 views) on the NA servers to the Legion of Honour’s first ever Guild Bounties happening this weekend on Tarnished Coast. Times are:

Saturday, March 16th at 18:00 UTC/ 14:00 EDT/ 11:00 PDT
Sunday , March 17th at 20:00 UTC/ 16:00 EDT/ 13:00 PDT

Now is an excellent time to say hi and learn what this group of fun and relaxed (and sometimes crazy) group of individuals is all about. Just post here saying hi or hop on over to the guild website to see what’s going on!

And Happy Pi Day everyone!

Operation: Union - Bringing Players Together

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

I’m not sure if I understand your question, but I’ll do my best to respond!

So the way I think about the organization of this social group is that Operation: Union is the set of people (who are not necessarily members of the guild The Legion of Honour [XIII]) that believe in what Glitch initially put forth: being part of a welcoming community. The Legion of Honour [XIII] is the guild that has grown out of this group. [XIII] is a multi-server guild, which means that each server has separate Influence earned, separate banks, and separated guild upgrades. For Tarnished Coast (my server), that means we have a large guild bank and other guild buffs up pretty often and are working towards those Guild Missions, but on Ferguson’s Crossing (another active server), they are working on their own projects. We do, however, all share the same guild chat channel, same in-game guild roster, same guild website, and same ideals on how to treat other players.

Yes, we know this is not the most efficient way to leverage the IP earning potential of a bunch of people, but we are happy with this and do not want to all move to one server. We enjoy the ability to explore PvE content with members from other servers in the same region and love the community that has grown out of Glitch’s ideas and his and others’ leadership.

Since we are separated by different servers, those of us on TC won’t ever be able to WvW on the same team as those on FC. That creates an interesting scenario that if two servers with enough [XIII] presence were to claim, say, supply camps, you could have a red [XIII] supply camp and green [XIII] supply camp. So really, all you need to do to get CD’s [XIII] members into WvW is to drag them in there, represent [XIII] and start playing. Then you can work on the Art of War improvements for the CD chapter of the Legion of Honor.

So, if you would like to head up leadership of the CD chapter of [XIII] and focus on building that to be a WvW force for CD, that would be great! I don’t have the ability to appoint you “keeper of the CD Influence” or “leader of the CD chapter” – but others can, and we always welcome more interested more folks!

I know I’m likely speaking out of turn here, but as a separate idea, if you wanted to keep your CD-based guild [RIOT] and just join in on our discussions here and possibly on the [XIII] website, the leadership may be happy to consider a sort of alliance.

I don’t think I can summarize all that in a tldr sentence, but I hope I helped answer your question! PM me here or whisper me in game and I can tell you more about the structure of [XIII].

A guild group and I got to Lupi about a week ago and wiped about 5 times (apparently Lupi had a thing for leafy eles that night and so I was the victim of several Shadowstep + AoE + AA combos in phase 2). If it weren’t for the fact that I had to get up early the next morning we would have kept on going. If anyone on this thread is still doing Arah mentor runs on the NA side, throw me an invite! I’m around usually from 23:00 – 5:00 GMT (or 18:00 – midnight EST), so a run around server reset time would be great.

My main is an ele, but I also have a tanky warrior and a condi necro. I’ll take whoever is best for the party.

Choosing a new PvE server

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Tarnished Coast has a very active and vibrant PvE community. There’s often people shouting for dungeon groups in LA and the dungeon maps, and most of the Orr Temples are open most of the time during peak hours. I’m in the process of leveling a few more characters and there is no shortage of other players in the low-level and mid-level areas. In general, the community is also very friendly and helpful – people will stop and rev you, shout when a rare DE is up, and keep most conversations civil.

Before you transfer to any other server, since you are mainly interested in PvE, I would suggest that you try guesting for a few days to see if it’s the right server for you – but if you do decide to guest to/move to TC, don’t hesitate to give me a shout!

And as Falunel mentioned, gw2lfg.com is a great resource for finding a dungeon group.

Welcome Quixal! I have sent you a guild invite. We have quite a few friends on AG, and we have several EU players that are up during NA primetime.

We do have a guild website; check it out, but no pressure to register on it. I understand the paranoia.

@Mystogan: We do have a vent server! Details were lost in the 30 pages of this thread, but they are also in the News and Announcements section of the forums of the Legion of Honour website, http://operationunion.enjin.com. They should be viewable without creating an account.

These are bots, right?

If it’s something like the rich ori node that was in Southsun, it’s probably someone who just has their character parked.

The easiest way to tell if it’s a bot or not is if they’re a ranger. While the character will teleport, the pet will run away at Mach Risen speed in the direction of the next node the character is at. Sharpen your reflexes at getting that reporting tool up right away, or take a screenshot and attach it to a support ticket.

deleting a character, what to do with Karma?

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Ah, sorry! I misinterpreted your original post. If you are even remotely willing to buy more ingredients, I would say go buy chickpeas, eggplants, and peaches. Lots of ’em. Because there is no such thing as too many chickpea fritters, eggplant fritters, and peach tarts.

And while in general the MF is a bad investment, any karma -> gold conversion you can do in this case would mean a profit. Can someone else comment on the ability to put lower level Karma stuff into the MF?

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

You could stockpile salvage kits and non-ori gather tools if you have bank space to hoard them. In each map, there is (at least) one karma vendor for each type of tool, so your level 41 has access to at least copper and iron tools, if not steel. Also, stock up on any crafting food ingredients you can grab – sure, you may not like crafting now, but it’s an easy way to get some quick levels!

One last thing you could do (if it works, not in game right now so I don’t know for sure) is go to your home borderlands in WvW, buy gear from the karma vendors there, and toss it in the Mystic Forge. I’m not sure what level the lowest yellow (rare) equipment are, so maybe check if you could MF greens → yellows or go with blues → greens.

Contract Asuran Outsourcing

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

The “Contract Asuran Outsourcing” consumable is a one-time use deal that lets you put one upgrade onto an extra build track. As Gil said, they’re more useful for a large/active guild that has a lot of influence coming in.

I use them on those expensive upgrades that take a while (any level 3, 4, or 5 unlocks or the Guild Treasure Trove or Deep Cave, for example). That way the construction of that upgrade doesn’t take up a normal build slot for three days or a week that I’d normally use for banners, MF bonus, or Gather bonus.

You use the Contract Asuran Outsourcing by first queuing up the item you want on this “side track” to be next on the build order. So if you are currently working on two banners and want to use the Contract on Arch 3, add Arch 3 to the queue (so that it would be next in line to start) and then use the Contract to start it. Anything in the queue after Arch 3 will then start after your banners are finished – Arch 3 is never bumped onto your normal build tracks.

Note that you can only have one thing in the Contract Asuran Outsourcing slot at a time, and you can only save one Contract Asuran Outsourcing at a time, so no stocking up and building all those WvW fort buffs at the same time!

Hope this helps! If you have any specific questions (or if I completely confused you) please let me know.

To Spend Karma or Not To Spend

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

There are two schools of thought on Karma spending as you level: one recommends that you use karma to buy your gear as you level to save gold, and the other recommends that you hoard everything until you hit 80.

Why spend your karma on gear? Simply because you save gold. You need gold for your skill tomes, waypoints, crafting mats you don’t gather (if you like crafting) and gems (if you want something from the gem store). Between dailies and dynamic events, you tend to get plenty of karma compared to the price of the gear you’re buying.

Why save your karma until level 80? For those exotics you can buy from cleared temples in Orr and for chasing a legendary. Temple Exotics run in the realm of 50K Karma per piece, and you will speed hundreds of thousands of Karma if you want to make a Legendary weapon.

I fall into the latter camp, so I only spent my early Karma on crafting materials (a lot of foods are Karma-bought), salvage kits, and harvesting tools. Every 5-10 levels I would buy near gear from the BLTC (usually blues or greens, but whatever’s cheap and has stats that I like) or craft gear to kind of save on money, too. Salvage white gear drops, vendor blues, and either post on the BLTC or vendor greens (if you don’t use them).

The Kill Combo achievement for dailies

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

It’s cool that the NPCs are smart enough to do combos!

I spent about 1.5 hours yesterday first helping others do combos, then finally getting mine, and then again helping others. What I found:

  • The combo must inflict an effect that does damage on an enemy: namely, dark, fire, or poison field with a whirl or projectile finisher;
  • The effect must actually damage the enemy; i.e. if you kill the enemy with the combo itself before the effect does damage, you will not get credit;
  • Combos performed while engaging an enemy will count: you can auto-attack, combo, and then auto-attack some more to kill the enemy;
  • You cannot self-combo;
  • Remember that for projectiles with a % chance to count as a finisher, you will see the combo heart and your character may even say something even if the projectile didn’t count as a finisher;
  • Credit for the combo (for dailies) will only be given when the enemy is killed;
  • It is buggy and not guaranteed to work.

New Player looking for friends

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

Hi Saikia and welcome to GW2! Check out the OPERATION: UNION thread to see a list of players who are friendly and helpful.

I’m not familiar with the culture of Whiteside Ridge, but maybe look in map chat to see if people are looking for more help with dynamic events or if people are looking for more for map exploration. It could be a good way to meet people on your server.

Additionally, I would recommend that you look at possibly joining a guild to find some people who have been playing a while and can help you learn the game. There is a subforum here on the GW2 forums that has postings from recruiting guilds – look there and see if there are any on your server that you would be interested in joining. The guild I am part of, the Legion of Honour is a cross-server social guild – check it out if you’re interested.

Looking for an active EU server

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DEKeyzToChaos.7381

DEKeyzToChaos.7381

While I’m on Tarnished Coast, a NA server, I know that there are quite a few guildmates of mine who are on Gunnar’s Hold.

What hours are you playing? If you tend to be playing when most people in your time zone would be asleep or at work, you may want to consider transferring to a server with an active population when you are active (even possibly non-EU – if your connection is decent you shouldn’t notice any lag).

You could also look into which servers have guilds that are known to be more social and helpful. While Legion of Honour is cross-server, you could go to the Guilds subforum of the GW2 forums and see who’s recruiting.

Hope this helps!
