Yes it’s the same ToA. If you compare the maps you can see they’re in the same place. (Queensdale covers all of Divinity Coast and Watchtower Coast and the upper part of Talmark Wilderness and The Black Curtain.)

Judging by all the monsters roaming around Godslost Swamp I think it’s safe to assume the Underworld still exists but we’ve lost access to it. As for FoW The main part of the WvW map is called Eternal Battlegrounds, which was the name of an area in FoW so it’s possible they’re the same but re-named and re-designed. (Or simply changed over time like Tyria itself.)

The whole matching up gods to professions thing kind of went out the window with Factions I think. I mean that gave Grenth 3 (Necro, Sin, Rit) to the other Gods 1 or 2 and I don’t think Paragons and Dervs were really supposed to be associated with any God.

I think we’ll get to free Cantha in an expansion. I’m really looking forward to seeing whats happened to the Jade Sea and the Forest.

I think the HoM was destroyed by Jormag. Maybe he’s one of those dragons who likes to collect a pile of loot to sleep on? Or maybe like some DnD dragons even a carefully curated collection of interesting artifacts. Maybe we’ll find all our monuments when we take him down? (BTW I love the fact that even after 250 years and everything else being destroyed the Xunlai Chests are still there. Although it makes me wonder what happened to the ones in LA.)

No idea.

Also no idea, although I’m thinking of the ‘No Capes!’ rant from The Incredibles.

Question related to Guild recruiting subboard

in Players Helping Players

Danikat.8537

There’s also quite a few fan sites where guilds are advertised.

I went that route because I wanted to get into a guild right from the start but I’ve had bad luck with random recruiters in-game. I wanted to try and find a guild with some requirements, but requirements that suited me, and it’s much easier to do that with scrolling through a list.

A word of advice: Don't buy keys.

I think even just making it possible to sell the tonics would go a long way towards improving the situation since they seem to be both one of the more common drops and one of the most useless.

In GW1 some people clearly loved having tonics. They’d spend huge amounts of money (even by GW1 standards where 1k gold is nothing) to get some of the everlasting ones. I could never see the appeal myself, I thought they were a waste of money (and time since you had to stay in towns to use them).

So it seems silly for someone like me to be stuck with tonics when I’m torn between using them because I may as well and destroying them to save the hassle of using them, meanwhile somewhere else in the world is someone who would love to have the tonics and get a lot of enjoyment from them.

It’s not even that I want to make money selling them, I’d be happy giving them away. I just don’t like destroying or wasting something another player might really want, but I don’t have any other choice right now.

No Mounts + Contested Waypoints = Bad Idea

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

Why are there empty zones?

Because it’s a level 80 zone and the game has been out for 2 weeks.

The majority of players have not had time to get up to level 80, or haven’t wanted to focus entirely on levelling. And a lot of those who have gotten to level 80 have done it through crafting, so they probably haven’t actually gone to that zone, or aren’t spending a lot of time there.

Give it time and the high level areas will fill up as more people reach those levels, then there will be more people to defend waypoints and less problems with them being contested.

Only 5 Character Slots Is A Major Disappointment

in Players Helping Players

1) They are probably going to start bringing out expansions from about 6 months down the line and each one will almost certainly include some extra character slots. Yes you’ll have to buy the expansion but you’ll be getting a lot of extra content for that.

2) If you’re wanting to play PVP then as other people have pointed out you don’t need to have 1 of each profession ready to go because you’re automatically levelled to 80 when you go to PVP areas, given max-stat armor and can freely re-do your traits. So if you want to switch professions you can just delete one character and create another without really losing anything.

3) In PVE you shouldn’t need to worry about it. The game is intended to be balanced so that no profession is under or over powered and the meta-game tends to move slower and have less of an impact so it’s easier for the devs to keep up and make sure it actually is balanced than with PVP.

4) You’d need to buy 3 character slots to get all 8 professions. That costs 2400 gems. 2800 gems costs £29.75 (I can’t check other currencies). That’s not a huge amount of money by any stretch. It’s more than I’d be willing to pay having just bought the game, but then I’m a) broke, b) cheap and c) have no need of more character slots right now.

It’s in no way expensive enough to create a “clear divide” between those who can and can’t pay it, especially since as explained above you don’t really need all the character slots to have an advantage.

Gem prices may be that cheap now, but wait a few months. Every game I have seen where you could purchase the “premium” currency using ingame currency started out cheap too. Then the gold farmers get rolling and EVERYTHING skyrockets until the average player simply cannot afford to do business anymore without spending a fortune in real life cash. I understand that one of the very reasons the currency exchange exists is to COMBAT gold farmers. However, in my humble opinion, it doesn’t help.

The term buy low sell high is your friend in freemium games, and GW2 IS freemium, don’t let the initial buy in fool you. It is the ONLY way to compete with the gold farmers. Unless of course you want to spend hundreds(literally) of real life dollars, or hundreds of hours farming gold. BTW, I got my first ingame gold spam email today! I felt so proud!

The difference, to me, between GW2 and most “freemium” or microtransaction based games is that you don’t need any of the items in the gem store to play. Some of them are helpful, or allow you to do things a bit quicker but you could quite easily complete the entire game without ever having or spending a single gem.

Some basic appearance options post creation?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

I never actually played GuildWars so forgive my ignorance, but how expensive was the appearance change ‘item’? as long as it’s not ludicrously expensive when it arrives I’ll be happy

The makeover pack costs $9.99 (£6.99) and comes in 2 versions – regular makeover lets you change your appearance, extreme makeover lets you change your gender too.

I agree that there should at least be the option to change the colour of hair accessories at any time through the dye panel. We can change all our other clothes, it seems odd to leave that one out. But I also think it’d be a bit weird to let people freely change their characters whole appearance, I think it’d be better to offer that through the gem store to limit how often people do it.

Starting out a Norn in a Charr city? Can it be done?

Shouldn’t be a problem at all.

You’re automatically scaled to the level of the personal story instances, just like the zones, so if you are too high level the game will auto-correct it. And what you do outside your story doesn’t affect the story at all, unless it specifically says so (like when you have to do a heart quest to progress).

Butter, pepper... delayed crafting progress

Have you checked the trading post? I haven’t looked in the last 10 hours or so but last time I did look it was absolutely flooded with these items, making them very cheap, because they’re dropping far more than anyone can use.

I had no butter at all before they changed it, since then I’ve managed to play about 3-4 hours and spent most of it exploring and I’ve got 70+ sticks.

Weapons and how they appear on a character; suggestions? =D

Danikat.8537

If they do add something like this I really hope they make it optional.

I usually swap to my bow when I’m not in combat because I feel like having a main and an offhand weapon visable looks a mess (especially when the offhand is a torch). Having all 3 showing up at once would look horrible to me.

You were fighting orcs in GW2? And what is this strange new “Illusionist” profession?

orcs are in the lvls 1-15 Charr starting zone

mesmer= illusionist

I’m guessing the orcs in question are ogres.

No Mounts?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

I’d like mounts for the novelty value, as long as they worked the same way as the speed buffs – allowing you to move slightly faster, not skip/“fly” straight to designated points on the map.

But I’m fine with the current system. The waypoints are there if you need them but the charge makes sure they’re not over used and even in areas you’ve been over before there are often things worth stopping for, even if it’s just a resource node or a downed player.

Also speaking as someone who has only gotten to play for about 40 hours, reached level 13 and hasn’t even earned 1 gold yet I think the waypoints are pretty cheap. It’s something like 70c to go from Divinities Reach to Ebon Hawk, which is most of the way across the map. When you factor in the asura gates I think once the game has been out for a while and people have had time to earn more money and/or settle into a farming routine the cost will be relatively negligable whilst also being an effective gold sink.

If you’re on an EU server try this:

Transfer to a US server (transfers are free at the moment),
Go to the HoM and talk to Kimmes – you should now see the rewards you’ve unlocked (4 pieces of heritage armor in your case),
Transfer back to an EU server,
Visit the HoM again – the rewards should still be there.

That worked for me and since then all new characters I’ve created have had the portal stone in their inventory and I’ve been able to get all the rewards.

An Arena Net support phone number would go a long way.

This is really frustrating when we have to sit here and do emails and tickets with no idea if anyone is looking at them…. Or no idea how far we are down the list. If you guys had a support number I have a feeling we’d get this stuff done a lot faster. I know many people can be jerks while calling…. but that is no excuse. This kinda stuff is really alienating. I am sure your support people have phones…. just give us a number xD

Our Support Team offered telephone support foa a number of years. Believe it or not, it actually took longer to resolve an issue via a phone call than it did via a ticket. We do hope to offer Live Chat / Live Help very soon, though, and I think this will meet the needs you’re speaking about.

You actually expected people to believe this ?

I can believe it. I work on a telephone helpline (for a completely different kind of issue, but still) and I often find it’s quicker and easier to resolve problems when they come in by email.

For one thing it’s hard to read or write anything while you’re listening to or talking to someone. So either they have to stop you any time they need to do anything or they’re only able to keep half their attention on what they’re doing and take twice as long to get it done.

For another when people submit tickets Anet can request exactly the information they need and have it all laid out in front of them, whereas if they’re doing it by phone they have to ask you for each bit of info and the vast majority of people won’t just give a short answer – they’ll include a lot of irrelevant backstory or just keep talking after answering the question – which again makes it take longer. (You might not do this, but remember you’re not the only person who would be calling, if someone who called before you does this then you’re left waiting on hold while they ramble on.)

Also I don’t know how exactly Anet’s support works but if they’ve got specific people focusing on specific issues, or someone just happens to be better at particular things they can make sure each ticket goes straight to the best person rather than whoever happens to pick up the phone.

Then you have to keep explaining what you’re doing at each step, then re-wording the explaination because the person on the phone doesn’t understand the terminology or can’t understand how it’s relevant, or doesn’t think it should take that long or heard that a friend of a friend’s sisters, cousins, aunt got a completely different solution (to what was actually a completely different problem) from another company.

I understand why a lot of people want a phone line, because it’s a lot easier to believe your issue is being addressed when you’ve actually spoken to a person who says they’re dealing with it then when you send off an email and hope but really that is the ONLY advantage. There are far more downsides for everyone involved.

Plus, ultimately they’d still have to go through the exact same process they’re using now. Unless you really believe that Anet’s support staff are just sitting around all day picking up the odd ticket now and again if they happen to feel like it having you on the phone telling them to do their job is not going to make them do it any faster.

No real problem with the map myself, would be nice if we had a better idea of where one area ended and another started (some type of outline), but once you’ve explored an area it’s fairly clear what’s what.

If they’d just had the zones separated on the map id be happy. All the zones are instanced its not like they HAD to put them right next to each other like wow did, making the world literaly a few km in size. Instead of having an anbiguously sized world with the few specific important locations you visit being a few km.

Now that you mention it, that would have made the world seem larger, also would have given opportunity for expansion (adding new segments or locations).

I think there’s plenty of oppertunity for expansion already. There’s large areas of the current map we can’t go to (Magus Falls and Woodland Cascades for example), plus the other two continents from GW1 (Cantha and Elona).

After that….we can be reasonably sure Tyria is a globe, the 3 known continents are roughly in a North-South line and we haven’t seen nearly enough to the East and West for it to wrap around into a globe shape, so it’s reasonable to assume there’s a lot more of the planets surface. It could be that they’re right that the Ocean is Unending, or it could be that we’re just waiting for Tyrias Christopher Columbus to actually try the trip.

(Which one it is probably depends on whether the devs want to add another continent at any time.)

It really confused me at first too, I thought it was some new internet slang.

But once I realised people seemed to use kitten as an insult, and also that I never saw anyone on this forum swearing I guessed what was happening.

If you (mentally) replace it with the F or S word it usually makes sense.
