I have found that Dungeons are extremely difficult and unpleasent for new or ‘causal’ players. I grinded out a few runs of AC on my Guardian to get the Ghastly Sword/Shield, and honestly.. I couldn’t wait till it was over, I hated every second of it. If you have a group of friends that are experienced and can guide you through as suggested above, then it will probably be pretty cool, but for an inexperienced player grouping with the general public, Dungeons are just awful IMO.
I believe that it’s only going to get worse now with the changes they have made to dungeons. Preventing people from using waypoints during fights now makes it so people don’t want inexperienced players, they only want ‘pro’ players in Dungeons. Sadly, ANet is working to push more inexperienced or causal players out of Dungeons completely, and they are succeeding. The good news is that Dungeons aren’t a necessity, the awards are all exotic and those can be had through crafting and the Trade Post. Some of the Dungeon skins are really cool, I would love to get the Citadel of Flame armor, but with as much trouble as I had in AC, I probably have no business going anywhere near COF.
If you’re lucky enough to know people that can help you, then by all means take the opportunity. Eventually, Dungeons are going to be strictly for the ‘elite’ only.
From my somewhat limited experience so far, I agree with the consensus on Signet Builds. I am Level 52 and still having great success with the Signet build, but this will not be my end game or dungeon build. It’s effective for PVE leveling but as you get higher in level the benefits start to decline. Not sure how much longer I’ll roll with the Signets, but I’ll soon be changing it up.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that’s found Karma underwhelming so far. I have been saving jugs of Karma waiting for some reason to use them, and so far not a whole of reason to want to cache them in. I like the Karma system, it just needs more variety of rewards available, even if they’re purely cosmetic.
A lot of this sounds very promising. We’ll have to wait and see how well it’s executed, but I like a lot of what I read. I like the fact that Arena Net seems very involved and active in continuing to develop this game as time goes on to keep it fresh and exciting. So far I have really enjoyed the game, it’s not perfect.. nothing is.. but they do most things better then any other MMO I have ever tried. I’m looking forward to seeing how things develop and see how these changes work in game.
The great thing about this game is that there is no ‘Ultimate Class,’ or ‘Best Build’ for anyone. There is a lot of variety in classes and builds and as a result there are vastly different opinions. Personally, my main is a Guardian Tank who I love, but I found I had a lot of fun when playing a Ranger. I actually quit playing my Ranger after reading forum posts about how bad the class was. Recently though, I started playing the Ranger again, and I am having a great time in PVE. Granted, I am still low level and from what I hear a lot of the problems are more prevalent at higher levels. I find the Ranger with the Bow to be a nice change of pace for those used to melee classes like Guardian or Warrior. Yes, it takes time and patience, I have made a lot of mistakes and had to learn how to play the class, but the more I play with the Ranger, the more I like it.
Is it perfect? No.. it has some problems that hopefully will be addressed in future patches. But speaking from a purely PVE perspective, it can be a very fun class and I have found it can also be very powerful as well. It does take time an patience, but it’s worth it IMO.
It says bad link when i try and copy paste ur build… why?
Copy his link and paste it into your browser address bar. There is some weird thing with the forums where it says links are bad.
Great Video, and thanks so much for the link to the build. I’m kind of new to Rangers (and to the game as a whole) and found it very helpful. Quick question though if I may, is this build pretty good for PVE and Dungeons as well? Seems like it’s a pretty balanced overall build, just wondering if there are any tweaks you make for PVE? I really like the build and will probably do one very similar to this.
Wow.. I came to this forum because while I liked the Guardian a lot I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the class. GW2 can have a bit of a learning curve for new players, but this guide really made things easy and answered every question I had. I have been playing for the past few days using tips from this guide and I have become far more effective then I previously was and find I’m getting more enjoyment out of the class and the game. Thanks for taking the time to put all this together, this is the best guide I have seen for this game.
