As an old saint once said:
“Poop.”
1.) Fix Empathic bond so that the pet actually absorbs the conditions and they do not simply evaporate.
2.) Switch Zephyr’s Speed (5 trait in Beastmastery) with Loud Whistle (15 trait in Beastmastery). That trait is simply too strong to be that low in the tree.
3.) Increase the cooldown of traps or reduce their AoE by a small amount. At the moment, if placed right, traps can completely cover a node which allows for no skillful counter-play. Traps can be placed prior to any engagement and by the time they are triggered they are already up again.
With these 3 fixes, I think rangers will be fine.
1. That potentially is a bug because it doesn’t match the description, However i don’t think it’d be as effective as you think, Since we’re usually swapping pets every 15 seconds anyway thus completely removing any conditions put on the pet (I honestly never noticed it till one of you guys mentioned that it was just eating them)
2. This wouldn’t have a huge effect on the BM Bunker build, it’d probably hurt trapper though cause they’re forced into the 30 points in Skirmishing. Though I suspect what would happen would be they’d either drop 10 points in one of the other lines, Or they simply would lose that role as a Quick Stomper.
3. You can completely cover the Node with a ton of different abilities, and by Counter Play I assume you mean “I’m mad because I can’t bunker on top of the node and stop everyone”. I’m starting to find it quite hilarious that Anet wanted to add more ways to Stop Bunkering, and people look at what was considered “The Worst Class in the game” as a way of stopping it. You might have to change your Meta to Counter the Trap Ranger.
2.) I don’t care about BM bunker build because it’s useless in Paids.
1.) There is no contemplating or debating whether Empathic bond. It is – completely – broken. Necros are not able to stack any conditions, and they are not able to epidemic off of the pet either.
3.) I said either/or. Either reduce the AoE cleave or increase the CD.

you want to nerf the most bugged and overlooked class? then say goodbye the entirety of the player base that plays ranger.
i feel like i can confidently say for the first time, without feeling like a troll…..
L2P
p.s. if you don’t wanna die to the hands of a trap ranger, then don’t stand in the big red circles!? not to hard to figure out
I am simply asking to fix three buggy mechanics that are, for the most part, game changing at high-tier tPvP…
I know how to play very well, thank you. It is not a L2p issue. I am not saying that rangers do not need to be revamped in other departments. I’m saying that those 3 mechanics are broken and need to be fixed because they are affecting the meta to the point where the game has become un-enjoyable.
(edited by Davinci.8027)
But Java says they are easy-mode and only PZ makes them good. I’m confused.
No one knows how to play against rangers, i.e. everyone is bad except PZ !
There is no competition because there is no population. Since there is no population, there is a lack of good players. The 8-team tourney system ruined PvP for this game because it made players PAY for competitive PvP.
The only way to cure this is to get more people into PvP, and Anet has been doing a subpar job of creating features that would entice players to PvP and stay PvPing.
The new 1 v 1 system has done wonders in the short time it’s been in effect. Meow we need to see more from Anet and more from the devs. We need to see matchmaking and solo queing. We need to see other game modes than conquest. We need to see a hell of a lot more or the competitive players are going to get tired of running the same game mode vs the same players over and over, me included.
In WoW, only 3-4% of the PvP population are gladiators… but 3-4% of however million is a lot. 5% of 5,000 isn’t much at all.

Temple
Thank you kindly.
I think all the posts here really show that people AREN’T happy with Temple of the Silent Storm being the only map choice.
I don’t know if I can handle another week of this.
How much coding does it take to rotate 3 other maps in?
I’m fine with the 1v1 thing, but can we please rotate the other maps in?
Re-bind A and D to strafe left and right, and use mouse to turn.
Hi,
I was thinking there could be a couple of players that represent the community and bring certain ideas to the Devs that the majority of the PvP community feels is needed.
I feel there is a missing link between the Devs and the community and this would be a great way to fix that.
There are many issues that I believe most PvPers could agree NEED to be fixed and certain features that need to atleast be brought up.
I think I speak for many when I say that the combat system is great for PvP, however there is a let-down when it comes to actual FEATURES.
There could be some sort of a Player’s Council and at the head a couple of Representatives who would listen to ideas, and bring them up in a monthly meeting with the Devs.
I think Grouch and Holly would be great potential representatives.
What do you think?
I think that the current 1 v 1 is fine, but if they are going to keep it they should up the rewards to 2 QP and 20 gems including the current rewards.
I like the idea of having a weekly paid tourney, but what if there was one every day, at, say 8 pm EST? It would garner a great amount of attention. There would have to be some sort qualifying system though to stem out the lesser skilled teams.
Matchmaking is a definite must, and they should introduce some sort of MMO/ELO.
Add to that an observer mode as well as possibly a mentor mode, and the game is heading in the right direction.
This wasn’t supposed to a balance patch. Calm your kittens.
With the way current meta is working, it’s not possible to last longer than 30 seconds against 3 players, even with all cooldowns up.
With that said, you shouldn’t be stuck in a 3v1 situation in a tournament setting. Imo, you should not be building around a 3v1 setting, but more a 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 setting.
The best way a guard can do that is by maxing out on his cc capabilities. The more he can CC and lockdown a target, or peel for his team, the more useful he is in a teamfight. You also need a sufficient amount of condi removal, as well as regen and upkeep.
Here is the build I’m currently running:
http://www.intothemists.com/calc/?build=-7s-3x;0NF-40B3RG-90;9;69TT;44;014A289U-k67;1ZF18ZF183NP
edit: copy and paste into browser. “Bad link”
Sometimes I will swap Sanctuary for Save Yourselves vs very heavy condi teams, and trade out Consecrated Ground for Vengeful respectively, but this is the build I run most of the time. IX in Virtues is a great condi removal and X allows for clutch reses/stomps when Stand Your Ground isn’t up. 1/4 second cast time on Sanctuary allows for some very clutch reses and even stomps.
Hope this helped.

With a lack of healers in this game downed state is one of the few things that can counter burst, being able to have 2+ people rez a downed target is a great thing in pvp. Removing downed state would only make competitive pvp a joke.
No, because removing downed state would allow Anet to rebalance burst. Burst is only in its present state because of downed state. Downed state permits burst to not be game-breaking; remove downed state, you can remove the burst.
Removing downed state at this point in the game would just not be possible. I like it. It adds a whole new dynamic to the game and allows good players to recuperate after a bad hit.
Burst is fine where it is, because the only specs that can apply the huge amount of burst that everyone is complaining are also extremely squishy and can be counter bursted just as easily. This allows for a high skillcap, because bad positioning and map awareness from glass cannon specs means dying.
I honestly believe balance is good where it’s at. The only reason certain specs and builds are considered successful is because GOOD PLAYERS USE THEM. We saw it with PZ. They ran a comp that no one would have thought was viable, and did well with it. We can see it again, but players have to be willing to explore different specs/setups instead of complaining about nerfing/balance. 2 months ago, rangers were considered unviable, and now they’re in almost every team. Mesmers were thought to be the king of 1v1s and a must-have on a team, and now I see less and less teams running a mesmer because they have become one of the WORST 1v1 classes. This is because people are learning how to play their respective classes and finding specs that work better for them.
The meta changes because good players change it, not specs or classes.
And no, don’t remove launches being unbreakable by stun-lock mid launch. It’s a player skill issue. Wait to be on the ground, then pop your stunbreaker. There would be no need for a launch or knockdown if stunbreakers could cleanse them at any time mid-launch/knockback.
Caught me. But, everything else stated was not a troll.
- Solo/Dolo queing.
- Possibility of new game modes. I’d like to see a team deathmatch up there like GW1.
- A better intro for new players to the mists, with more help given on the intricacies of sPvP.
- A “LFG” type system that will help promote the creation and proliferation of new teams.
- A reward system in PvP that has an effect on PvE. Many players are turned off by the feeling that what they’re doing in PvP is not rewarding enough. Only skilled players with organized teams are able to profit (gems), and this should not be the case. Everyone should feel welcome in PvP.
-Guardian’s Renewed Focus should grant team invulnerability for 5 seconds.
- Certain bugs need to be addressed and fixed. Getting stuck inside walls, being ported back to base after the game has started, rubber banding when using Earth Dagger 3 for Eles and Judge’s Intervention porting you right back to starting position are just a few. Some of these have been around since release.
- Nerf Vyndetta
- Warriors need to be more viable in high-tier sPvP. Sadly the only two warriors we had are now playing other classes. Reducing the cooldown on their healing spells or increasing their effect as well as granting some sort of Passive condi removal like rangers or guardians could be a start.
-Reduce the cost of Paids entry to 3 tickets. This will allow the lesser skilled/organized teams to participate more in paids. It’s kinda dumb that newer/less-skilled players have to pay to play.
Davinci,
Best Swagger Turner Onner NA.
Hop off point when he drops the wells. Doesn’t matter if it gets neuted. It should get neuted in a 2v1. If your teammates aren’t there fast enough it’s on them, or they’re off winning somewhere else where the battle is uneven for the opposing side.
Just pop your condi clear cds and stay alive for as long as you can while knocking the gaurd off point so that you yourself can get off point and LOS the necros scepter 1 spam. You can also try teleporting to the necro and knocking him clear off of CT if he’s in a bad position.
Hope this helps.
Lol, the thread title is pretty funny.
It’s not a bug. It’s meant to be the way it is.
Personally, I think it’s fine because it also entails possibly being knocked off of that high vantage point when stomping/resing…
And there already is a horizontal radius for stomping.
They’re going to implement a solo Team vs Team with a rating system, kind of like arena, but with the same conquest game type. You should be able to get competitive games in.
Hopefully, this will give the pvp community the revamp it needs and will also allow more competitive players more gametime.
I was going to reply, but then Taym answered the question.
I approve this thread.
Necro is the only way. They really need a new game mode to diversify the gameplay. I was a proponent of conquest (and I still enjoy it), but the bunker metagame has gotten stale.
It isn’t a bunker meta game it’s a repsonse to one class that is insanely OP in PvP. The only reason why bunker builds are so popular is because the game has literally been designed around one class.
There is only one class that can burst down a player in 1.5 secs.
There is only one class that can Rez and Stomp better than any other class.
There is only one class that can escape anything, run faster than anything, and mitigate dmg better than any guardian simply by not being seen.
Can you guess what class that is?
But when you have one designer who is an abosolute pvp moron(I’ll give you a guess it rhymes with harp) and who sets every game mechanic in that one classes favor.
From the fact that glory is based on who delivers the last hit(skirmisher, defender, assaulter) before downed state. To the way maps are arranged, tight camera angles, swift turns and corners, sudden terrain elevation, all garunteeing that a player can never see where thier team is to escape a zerg.(and a mini map that’s bugged to hell)
And you see how the game was designed to benfit the most over-powered mechanic every seen in an MMO.
This forces every class but the one meta into a bunker build unless they wanna die in secs to said class.
As for Guardian build they are one of the holy trinity to bunkers, Elemetalist, Engineer, Guardians. Guardians have an extreme weakness like all other bunker builds=low HP’s.
Sure they have alot of condition removal but they cannot defend agianst steady condition dmg, so high poison, bleeds, and burns that deal their dmg in 3 secs rule them. So classes that rely on burst, or stacking many bleeds or conditions do bad vs them while d/d Elementalists rule them( with abilities like drakes breath that deal 7+k over 3 secs before a guardian can remove it)
You’re basing the game around hotjoins. One word, son : tournaments.
The only class that can down a bunker gaurd is a ranger. Mesmers also have a fair chance.
Gaurdians are amazing at stripping conditions. A necro will never solo down a good gaurdian.
In general a bunker gaurd should not be easily downed in a 1v1, so I see this as pretty fair. If you’re attacking a gaurdian bunker solo, you need to switch up your game.
assuming anet has a bunch of competent programmer to balance the game, why are u so mad about qq on the forum? you are 4months late and waking up now with this kind of thread is silly.
you know, for anyone is more simple qq on forum than l2p and ask advice from players.
you wasted your time..but maybe u were waiting for paid to popbecause the game is getting less skill capped by the day it seems and i think its because of all the QQ from ppl that need to L2P.
i hear from 2 sides all day. 1 side is its to hard lets QQ all day instead of L2P and the other side is this game is being turned into a viva pienata party game were the whole family can sit down and be lvl 80 and play it then if they suck they can qq instead of learning how to play.
im just sick of it. i want this to go to esports (yes imma get quated and say it will never go but whatever) for that to happen it needs to be interesting and for that to happen we need to stop all this silly QQ and l2p.
You need to understand how a game gets to esports. Telling people to L2P doesn’t do that, it does the opposite as it avoids the root of the issue. For the game to be an esport there needs to be a viewer base, ie. from a casual player base. This is nearly non-existant right now which is partially due to the new player walking out of the gate and getting instagibbed without proper warning by the specs that are QQ’d about. Sure it can be fine at higher levels of play but for people starting out IT IS VERY BAD.
If you want the game to succeed the meta is going to have to shift to something that is less toxic at entry level, even if you find it is fine. The only reason that makes sense to tell players to L2P rather than address the core issue is out of fear of a meta shift and your ability to adjust.
I think for this to be fixed there has to be some sort of a rating system. Catering the balance towards casual players does not work because balance should be catered towards high-level play and towards players who truly understand the mechanics of the game.
Players get instagibbed out the door because they start out playing vs players with alot more experience than them.
The devs need to work on a system that helps new players SLOWLY get integrated into PvP.
A couple of possible solutions that could aid the ailing Mists:
1.) Make a more in-depth intro to the mists when new players first enter the mists. Teaching players how to cap a point, how to stomp and how to res is NOT enough.
2.) Implement some sort of a rating system so that new teams will face other new teams, and more experienced teams will face other more experienced. However for this to work there honestly needs to be a higher population, which there isn’t.
3.) Create a free tourney system which only allows single players or duo groups to queue up.
4.) Find a way to reward more tournament tickets, OR reduce the cost to enter paids. Paids are empty because the amount of tickets required to enter it is less than the amount of tickets (that could be bought with gems) that are rewarded. Also, only top players are rewarded, while the losing teams are left out. I don’t think it’s fair that lesser skilled/experienced players should have to pay for paids only because of their lack of skill/experience. PvP is for everyone.
5.) Design a LFG system that is easy and accessible to new players or even experienced players. There is a huge lack of teams (skilled or not), especially in NA.
Moreover, the devs need to make a more serious push on PvP. There are a very few changes made and only every few weeks. There could be serious money made if PvP gets popular, which should be incentive enough for Anet.
New game modes, extra maps, other forms of tPvP other than tournaments are just a few possibilities.
My 2 cents.
Davinci,
Best Sailor Antarctica.
A pretty sure-fire solid foundation would be:
Guardian Bunker (there’s a few variant builds here)
Mesmer far point/portal-bomber/general kitten the other players up guy (cannot go wrong with 20/20/0/0/30)After that a fairly excellent selection of characters for the other 3 slots:
D/D Ele 0/10/-/20+/30
Necro – Not sure here I don’t have enough experience on mine. However I did have moderate success fooling around with a well build
Thief roamer (a really well played ranger also meshes well with a d/d ele and a necro)and this is why EU takes the kitten out of NA, the same old meta ( guardian, mesmer, necro, ele, thief/warr). All the top teams use that broken composition, be creative.
We rolled 2 warrios, ranger, engi, guardian in paids, and ask any of the top players (QTs, Pzs, Rayteks team), we gave them a hard time, they won in strategies, but we took the surprise on them and lost the games by 100 points and less. Just bc a comp is a joke, doesn’t mean it can’t work, u need to make it work.and something to amuse, to show another broken meta
@Lelouche. I don’t see you anywhere in paids, so I don’t see why you should be talking about meta or NA vs EU etc
You’re trashing your own community when you’re not in even a position to give any viable input.
@That pic: Dom’s super DPS Hammer/Staff build + Powerr’s longbow warrior are too op.
