I sent a ticket and they also said they won’t refund me my gems… ???
It’s not my fault, I bought the outfit before the changes and now they don’t wanna give me my gems back.
Keep re-submitting. Hopefully we can get an explanation. I have a feeling it’s going to come down to the fact that Anet has no easy method (or no method at all) of removing access to the outfit along with the refund. That doesn’t mean you and others who purchased before the change should not be made whole.
Ultimately, Anet should just work on (and tell us they are working on) fixing the clipping issues while restoring the outfit to its original look.
I tried to ask for a refund for the outfit but they made it sound like i accidentally bought it and told me to be more careful in the future. i didn’t accidentally buy it, i just don’t like how they edited it and now i will never wear it…
I know a few people that have gotten a refund for the outfit, so I’m going to send in a ticket every day asking for a refund or until they actually fix the outfit. I suggest you try again until you either get a gem refund or the issue is fixed.
I received my requested refund, but my message from the GM contained the same ‘be careful’ verbiage. I’d imagine it’s a type of boilerplate that they are required to use, whether the refund is issued or not.
This is the first (and hopefully only) time that I have asked for my gems to be refunded. As had been mentioned by others, I only made the request due to the fact that had the outfit looked on its release day how it does now, I would never have purchased it. It’s not a case of buyer’s remorse in this instance, but the fact that the outfit was unacceptably altered after I had bought it.
I would keep submitting for the refund, if you haven’t received one. I realize the devs are working on the expansion, but hopefully a slew of refund requests will motivate them to do the right thing, and correct the clipping issues of this outfit in a less lazy fashion.
I’d love someone’s confirmation or denial, but it seems to me that every shot I’ve seen of the previous clipping issue is on a female human/sylvari medium armor class. And now it appears they’ve solved this by giving the skirt the same bell-profile as all the medium trenchcoat/butt cape armor.
I bought this outfit specifically for my mesmer, and until the ‘fix’ it looked fantastic and was my favorite outfit. Now it looks terrible on every one of my humans and Sylvari, to say nothing of the one it was purchased for.
I doubt I’ll get it, but in light of the change, I’ll be seeking a gem refund for the first time ever. I’m not remotely interested in the look of the outfit now. And even though the clipping was fixed, I can’t see how most who had that issue would be very pleased, either. They also did not get what was advertised.
Very lazy, Anet.
The clipping, as far as my characters go, seemed to be on the more voluptuous body types. My human female ele is one of the skinnier models and I noticed no clipping. My sylvari female necro has a curvy body, and I noticed some clipping. I didn’t notice it have anything to do with armor type. I can’t speak for the other races because I’ve only used it on these two characters.
Got it. I figured it could also be that, but so far I’d only seen screens of medium armor characters. The ones I had this on are both light armor with thin body types, so no clipping.
I do hate to complain about this whole thing, and I am glad that the clipping issue is fixed for those that had it. It’s annoying enough on many characters with plain armor. But this outfit is no longer what I bought upon its release, and I’d like to allocate those gems elsewhere if this is the permanent fix for it that Anet is going with.

You guys really fall for this smoke screen to cloud the whole controversy about the pre-purchase price policy?
This is a quality of life update to be able to change a current ascended armour into another stat via the MF. As it destroys all upgrades, a complete re-mod would cost e.g. ~120 gold (Zerker/Hoelbrak runes) + Laurels and soul shards.
I appreciate the update, but all the concerns and valid arguments about the HoT xpack have not been addressed.
paranoid mode off
Oh my goodness, what was I thinking? You’re right, let me re-light my torch and grab my pitchfork. I forgot for a moment that I wasn’t supposed to enjoy anything about this game anymore because some people have their panties in a twist.
yea at the cost of other high value materials… i for one dont like throwing obi shards to just store useless junk mhmm.
Then don’t. Throw the stuff away. They are all so freely available now that there is no reason to sit on more than a few stacks.
They’re not ‘currency,’ so they’re not going to go in the wallet, obviously.
Anet can’t save you from hoarding useless trash drops.
Purchased a copy on each account last night. Perfectly happy. Could still be dropping $200 each weekend on booze and cover fees for live music shows and getting into trouble. So this is a steal.
From the open world? So how do WvWers get them?
The same way they do: Champ bags. Get on that mindless k-train, it’s what Anet wants in WvW.
This is an intended nerf to the availability of forge currency, and is also 100% intended to affect the WvW crowd by driving up the cost of superior siege.
Fire’s embrace is gone, out and out killing a playstyle, the ONLY playstyle that ever got any elementalist to use signets, the only one that ever felt even a little bit like an auramancer.
Read.
What it is now:
Auras you gain from weapon skills are also applied to nearby allies.
What it will be changed to:
Powerful Aura: When you apply an aura to yourself, grant that aura to all nearby allies as well.
He’s not talking about the aura sharing trait. He’s talking about Fire’s Embrace, another current trait that is going away:
“Fire’s Embrace: When you activate a signet, you gain a fire shield. "
You could run three or four signet builds, and have exceedingly regular access to fire aura. Combined with Written in Stone, it made running signets instead of the usual Cantrips viable and fun.
This pretty much ends that and gives it to the opposing team as now the defending team will have to come from Garri to get back to whereever that fight is and likely lose that keep because of it.
The other side of the coin though, it becomes in your favor in their BL.
You and I both know that the gold will flow to make sure that Garri waypoint stays tapped 24/7 on higher tier servers if this is the way things are to play out. There’s going to be thieves and mesmers raking it in to keep that WP useless.
Let’s not even get started on the 500 supply cap in keeps coupled with these new waypoints. If the enemy breaches inner, even if you can repel them you may as well just hand them the kitten ed keep. You’ll never repair it more than once and shuttling supply from other keeps is going the way of the past.
So this picture is broken under any circumstances.
Which is not surprising, since any of these screen shots came from dev builds on dev accounts, which means that any waypoint can probably be flipped on and off at will for testing.
Everything I have read indicates that new southern tower waypoints belong to the opposing servers, and will never be available to the home team. This follows with the design philosophy that the new southern towers are the gateway to your map. The ememy either flips them, breaks the wall next to them, or has to go far out of their way to get around them.
Having an instant waypoint is both their incentive and reward for flipping and holding that tower.
It’s a new feature introduced by Anet to promote scouting. Now towers and keeps can auto-aggro themselves to pop swords, so the scouts have a reason to move about. Afterward, they can repair the damage to the door and work on those achievements. Win-win.
So killing yaks is still valuable, but it may be less valuable compared to what it currently is.
It’s not valuable at all on low tier servers like the one I’m on, where it can take hours to muster a group to take a keep. The difference between a 20 minute upgrade and a 40 minute upgrade is largely irrelevant when the structure will be safe for at least 60 minutes.
Ah, the dubious pleasure of only being able to round up enough people to complete 2-3 rams total between inner and outer of a T3 keep. Even a lightly defended garri becomes a tough nut to crack when you have to stand in AC fire and one-ram a fortified door.
Don’t you need yak though to get supplies into the base. without them, turtling wont help if you have no supplies for repair or building defenses?
To an extent, yes.
But there’s also the matter that until now (and presumably after, but they have not said) each level of upgrade repairs in full any damage done to the structure. At this point, it becomes how many turtles you have with an AC and stack of siege disablers and supply traps, so that they can hold out until the guaranteed upgrade pops. These things are cheap, and replenishing the paltry amount of supply used is as simple as rotating your people out to flip camps on other BLs. This is going to push things more toward turtling and preventing damage to your structure passively.
It’s what Anet has been working towards since they tested removing white swords.
Well, you know.
They are adding a new PVE dinosaur-fueled god gun to the new map that breaks down all outer gates. Maybe this is Anet’s way of balancing one unnecessary garbage mechanic with another?
Ugh why did you have to bring that up… I had almost convinced myself that stupid idea was a nightmare I had.
Because it still gives me nightmares, and I like to share the love.
i’m NOT saying that removing the guard stacks is a bad idea, i’m saying that anet has balanced WvW around having stacks. If you suddenly remove the guard stacks effecting some classes more then others, you’re creating a disbalance which should be compensated in some way.
Yes, well. This is just like certain forms of CC were previously balanced around Stability being a duration-only buff, and are now ridiculously unbalanced due to their lack of a target/hit cap since Stability has been changed to a stacking buff.
Anet: When changes absolutely, positively have to be half-finished over night.
If you think i think it’s balanced that i’m often with ~20 melee on my tag who are not able to do anything because the amount of CC is to big to push through, then you’re wrong. By making such update they nerfed the melee bigtime making them weaker+incredibely boring to play. Why would i remain silent when they’re trying to make another update that creates a bigger disbalance between the classes?
Oh, believe me, I hate it if I gave you the wrong impression. You and I are in the same boat. I mained front line Guardian my entire time in WvW up until the stab changes, and having to die in every random pug’s static field, line, or ring of warding that goes down has made me retire it for the time being. Anet has been steadily screwing the pooch these past months with half finished or unbalanced changes. I’m all for every profession being viable in WvW, but bringing the others into the fold should never have come at the total expense of the existing meta. The shift toward pirate ship pug blobs is just as bad for diversity of gameplay as the previous GWEN focus was. I don’t know what the end result of these changes is, but they feel half finished or entirely broken, and should never have been released as they are.
…while rewards the players they been in there a long time.
LOL. Balance issues aside (because there are plenty in WvW,) exactly how does removing a benefit that I earned over time ‘reward’ me?
Well, you know.
They are adding a new PVE dinosaur-fueled god gun to the new map that breaks down all outer gates. Maybe this is Anet’s way of balancing one unnecessary garbage mechanic with another?
Yeah. It was mentioned on the BG forums that lower tier servers’ NA players would probably log into everything waypointed due to a low player presence outside of prime time. That would suck donkey balls.
Even in Tier 1, we have 2-5 hours between certain time zone prime times where almost nothing goes on.
I think auto-upgrades is a step in the right direction, but a step too far.
Having cut my teeth in WvW on a tier 8 server last year, I can say that it was not uncommon to wake up to a BL that looks more like Skittles, or is the wrong color entirely, due mostly to nothing more than a 5-10 man late crew from one of the other two servers. People then spent the next 45 minutes walking an alpha golem or two around flipping everything back before work.
I shudder to think about the time that would have been involved had all that stuff been able to crank itself to T2 or T3 in the hours that it sat unflipped. As it was, roamers and camp flippers were able to keep things from getting out of hand, since they could effectively stop supply and at least keep the towers papered.
Auto-upgrades I suppose I can deal with, since it does remove certain elements of trolling. But unstoppable auto upgrades? That’s a bit much to swallow.
Lol, the ability to read must have become really hard these days….
Here you go, buddy. I know reading is hard these days, so I’ll help you:

It certainly doesn’t help that he replies on reddit, instead of the official forums, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.
This is only about the working of upgrades in the new WvW system. Please refrain from “ANet keeps ruining stuff”-comments and other nonsense from this thread.
I am not sure from the blog post, but it seems that upgrades will just happen, regardless if dollies come in or not. As far as I understand, the dollies will just speed up the upgrading process.
I ask ANet to consider making upgrades depended on incoming dollies. An objective wouldn’t be able to upgrade, if there are no dollies arriving there. This way a very important WvW strategy remains, namely killing the caravans to prevent upgrading of the enemy objective. Alternatively the first tier could also work without dollies but higher tier upgrades would still rely on them.
But the fact is that Anet does keep ruining things.
Most of the recent changes are a strong indicator that the developers do not take part in this game mode in any meaningful fashion, and that any ideas they formulated based on the laughable ‘Adopt-a-dev’ farce are either deliberately contrary to the way WvW is currently played or are based on misconceptions garnered by running only in EBG pug zergs.
What we are receiving are not balance changes based upon the way WvW is, but are instead throwing the whole thing out to create the WvW that Anet believes should exist.
As it happens, that vision seems to be a more controlled form of the EotM k-trains.
To address your point in particular, I agree. My guild prides itself on our havoc abilities, and enjoy our time spent weakening keeps and towers in a BL over the course of several hours, preparing for reinforcements to come start flipping things. With these changes, especially to the upgrade/dolyak relationship, much of our time will be invalidated by inevitable and unstoppable upgrades.
That time will be better spent somewhere else, and it likely won’t be in WvW, which seems to be how Anet likes it. Less competitive play, and more PVE.

Also, I’m so happy I spent all that coin on boosters and spent hours and hours to get my rank up!
So is Anet. Now that they have milked you (us) for several thousand ranks, they can change things around and start getting some money from people who aren’t willing to grind as long.
This is so true, especially for one particular achievement.
People has long since done the 250K kills achievements and now everyone says WvW is boring. They are probably right.
So the solution is obviously to add new tiers with 50,000,000 kills, 500,000,000 kills and 5,000,000,000 kills.
That will surely make the game fun again.
Look, Anet understands, due to diligent study of metrics, that people camping arrow carts in EotM need a new goal to strive for.
Yak Slapping is heavily nerfed:
- Instead of preventing upgrades, it will merely slow them.
- Instead of current amount of supply prevented, future supply shipments will be “smaller.”
- Defenders will be able to grant Protected Caravan buff to yak, and get a free kit to speed up, cure, and heal it.
- Sentries will be able to severely slow-down yaks.
Hopefully they won’t also nerf the slab of meat drop rate.
- Dolyaks will no longer drop useful loot. Dolyaks will have a small chance to drop the trophy item ‘Dung,’ which only has use as part of the new ‘What WvW is Becoming’ collection.
Anet is adding a new achievement: Attain 17000000 unspent world points.
Defend supply camp > useless, upgrade will continu.
Attack supply camp > useless, upgrade will continu.
Wich upgrade should I start first ? Should I keep supply before upgrading ? Should I use the supply in the keep to siege before upgrading ? Should I build canon before wall ? > Useless, the upgrade is automatic.
This will just kill scouting and roaming, and all people will just join the zerg..
lol wut? how will this kill roaming? do you even roam? these changes will make no difference.
Because not everyone roams just for the fights. With these changes, Anet will effectively kill the ability for small roaming and havoc groups to prevent keeps and towers from upgrading. All the cumulative damage that these groups do to soften a target will be undone by guaranteed, if slow, upgrades. There will be no purpose for these groups to operate as they do currently. Without a larger force on standby to come flip a defended objective in the near term, these people will just be wasting their time by flipping camps and killing yaks, as they are not actually stopping the fortification of structures.
There’s satisfaction that comes from taking 5-8 people and grinding down a defended keep over the course of a couple hours, until they have no choice but to abandon it and let your people flip it because they can no longer upgrade it, repair it, or siege it. All because of your crew’s diligence at flipping camps, sniping yaks, denying supply runners, and repeatedly breaking things.
Really guard buffs removed? why not just make everything based off of amulet just like the stale pvp mode? WvW is great because it allows for character customization including stats.
thanks for killing off options? now why dont u take a look at somethings more important? like wvw rewards? acheivemnts with absurd requirements? hackers? zerging? server tiers? transfer costs? or did it miss the spot on the menu?
no seriously focus on something that matters
Now, now. Anet is adding options. Every change they make always adds options.
I’ll let the nonexistent Anet employee who will not be responding to any of these threads explain what options have actually been added. But rest assured, Anet never takes options away.
Never, ever.
Also, check reddit. Apparently that’s where you go these days to see official Anet responses from the devs. No time to slum it up with us on the official forums.
Removed. Colin confirmed on Reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/36qzdj/upgrading_world_vs_world_upgrades/crgccbpSo Colin is spending more time answering questions on reddit than the official forums… Pathetic.
I have to admit… that is kind of sad. This is the official guild Wars 2 Forums, not reddit. This question was asked here over 2 hours ago. Yet the first place the Devs find out there was even a question is on another site… LOL
Probably because it is far easier to answer a reddit question on a phone or tablet while doing other work thing instead of constantly checking your PC in sub-forums on the GW2 website.
I have to agree, I also tend to find it easier to waste time on reddit than do my job.
I swear if they remove em then they will take a huge kitten on WvW players. Hope the german one is the correct.
That’s what Anet wants. The general trend of WvW lately seems to be to promote low-skill, casual gameplay over any sort of strategy or learned ability. Spamming CC everywhere, blob-kite metas, and now guaranteed, AFK structure upgrades.
Anet has now decided to invalidate the play styles of small roaming and havoc groups by diminishing their contributions; there’s little point in starving a structure of supply with these changes unless the arrival of the zerg is truly imminent, as upgrades (and the eventual repairs they bring) are now guaranteed with time. It looks very much like EotM style k-trains will be the only way to prevent upgrades in the future.
GG, Anet.
I think it would be pretty clever if they did nothing at all. No one would ever suspect.
GG, Anet. Well played. I wasn’t expecting to buy something new to play from Steam tonight, but you convinced me.
On top of that, I did get 100g more than if I would use the TP to sell it and he did get the precursor for 50g less than if he used the TP to buy that (that’s how much the fee takes).
Don’t be fooled, it’s not all about gold sellers. This is also a way for Anet to discourage this behavior, so that their TP gold sink is always working.
Without going into specifics on where, they are standing in certain spots where you cannot actually deploy siege to, but can deploy it from, and are abusing the new camera height/FOV changes to throw the siege down in the deployment blocked/invuln area. Previously this placement would have been (near) impossible, but like many things in WvW since the camera changes, Anet gave no forethought to the consequences.
Now we get to see all of their ideas, formed in a few hours of gameplay, and now implemented without any real feedback from the WvW community.
Handful of Devs ran around in a couple T1/T2 EBG pug blobs. They’re WvW vets and experts now. Trust them, they know exactly what WvW needs to promote this kind of gameplay.
I’m grateful for the thread, but I don’t think it counterbalances the larger communication issues we’ve had for the last two years in any way.
Well, here’s to hoping that the next thread Gaile creates is so mind-blowing for you that it completely makes up for two whole years of irritation with Anet’s level of communication.
ITT: Anet should just go ahead and release broken patches as scheduled, to appease a minority of forum posters so that those posters can move on to complaining about how Anet releases broken patches.
Perhaps if you folks actually came out in some sort of numbers (like AR does) you might be able to defend yourselves and make progress against your enemies.
Hi Gaile.
Since the purpose of the OP was to bring to light his unwillingness and/or inability to convert gold to gems in a fixed amount over and above what would be necessary to purchase these Halloween themed items, would it be possible for someone from Anet to give us a response to either of the following:
These items will remain available until this gem conversion issue has been patched, or;
The patch should be released before the items are already scheduled to become unavailable.
Hello All,
We have decided to run a special multi-week event in WvW where we’ll be changing some of the “rules” of WvW for a limited time.
Thanks,
John
That’s nice, John.
Will you also be suspending Glicko scoring changes for a limited time while you use the live environment as a test server?
They have no right to ask me to rep their guild during an event. I already rep a guild 100% of the time…
Well, there’s apparently one guild that you’ve decided does have the right to ask you to rep during the event, and you’re already in it.
Maybe you should ask your guild to spearhead Teq or Wurm several times a week to successful completion in exchange for their 100% rep requirement and your ‘respect.’
I think Anet thinks their players are stupid and easily confused. This is the reason for most dramatic changes, recently: user confusion.
Frankly, it horrifies me to think that the average GW2 player (according to Anet’s metrics) might be operating something as dangerous as an automobile, fork, or steak knife.
I’ve never actually heard of any guild even trying something like this…
Edit: @CMM – It sounds like you’re referring to TTS/other large guilds that set up for Tequatl/Triple Trouble events. Usually the reason they jump to a ‘clean’ map is because the map they’re on has lots of people who are off doing other things/just not listening. By jumping to a clean map they get more room to taxi people in who want to do the event successfully and will listen (Increasing the chance of it being successful.)
This, as well. And I’m glad that TTS does it. I’ve taxied around behind them more than once for Teq, and it’s nice to end up on a fresh map full of people that are mostly there for the event, instead of 20-30 pre-positioned afk farmers standing around by the hylek turrets who don’t wake up and do anything until champs start spawning in the middle of them.
I have witnessed this gather people up from the map, get them organized, then take most of the people and leave the map and leave groups of people behind, standing there like what just happened… I know there are taxi’s and ip commands and party join functions, but not all players know about these things. Leaving them hanging expecting something big to happen and then just leaving is wrong.
Sadly, that’s how it goes. They’re trying to get as many of their guild members into a map as possible, since maps are population limited. Guilds exist for their members.
One other purpose that white swords can serve is a probe or a a distraction. A single player can knock on a door to create white swords to (A) see what the defender response is and (B) to draw defender attention to an objective to draw them away from the real objective. There is a psychological game that can be played with the things that can be seen on the map — white swords, dolyaks, sentry flags, and so on.
Further, white swords also reward disciplined groups that can take out guards, build a bunch of siege weapons, and scrape siege without tagging the gate or walls to draw the swords until the are ready to use catapults or rams en masse to quickly take the walls or gate down once the attack starts. Pick up groups rarely pull this off (someone won’t understand not to hit the gate or will do so by mistake) but disciplined groups with good communication can and do pull this off.
We should adopt a dev to run with us roamers/defenders since they have zero understanding how their own game works. I have quoted a producers reply in this topic saying he/she hasnt played this game mode before the adopt a dev. Says pretty much they dont know about WvW.
This pretty much seems to be the case. Our server had a dev, and we got to talk with him on comms, and he seemed like a pretty nice guy and was interested in what was going on. Shame I only recall seeing him a couple of times during the first week of fall tourney, and then never again. No idea what became of him; we’re a low pop server and it might have been nice had he had the time to stick around and see what goes on when you’re mostly composed of small groups and roamers.
Hello!
Removing white swords from objectives to give defenders a stronger role in alerting their team as well as giving attackers more of a chance to get through having their siege disabled. We are also going to test out awarding points per kill. PPK was part of the scoring discussion and something we wanted to try. We will be looking for your feedback on that change after it goes live.
John
How about some feedback now, John?
I’m curious how much stronger of a role you need me to play as a defender/scout? Coming from a low population, bronze server, I’m curious which of the following roles aren’t broad enough:
Spending most of my gold buying, upgrading, and placing siege.
Spending the rest of my gold upgrading keeps and towers.
Spending a lot of my time building siege in those towers.
Spending the rest of my time running from keep to keep and tower to tower just so that I can refresh that siege and upgrade those structures.
Occasionally see some swords (that you’d apparently like to take away) that tell me what place I should look in on next, so that I can give the alarm moments too late for anyone to do anything.
Get a pittance of rewards versus someone who is k-training in a zerg somewhere. (This is my personal favorite. It’s actually made me rich. Selling off all those unnecessarily large inventory bags I’d crafted was a huge windfall. The quartermaster at every tower and keep will certainly appreciate it.)
As to PPK, I guess at some point I will be the scoring king, since it seems on the face of it that servers who bunker in their towers and keeps with siege-capped arrow carts and don’t ever come out to fight have been doing it right. If there’s one thing scouting on a small server has done for me, it’s shown me the value of huddling inside trying to kill a larger force with an arrow cart. Perhaps due to your changes, the rest of my server can join me for max score, yeah?
Hey Anet,
Anyway you can stop these spoons from dropping once you’ve added them to your collection? They are more like a big fat 10s middle finger to the face when they drop.
Thanks.
I, too, hate getting a free 10s vendor item. I would much rather have another garbage masterwork item that sells and/or salvages out to less than 10s.
