Hey — caught your whisper in game but you showed offline when I replied. I’m out for the evening for D&D, catch me tomorrow for chatting, hey?
I seldom use large numbers of the tomes in a row as I prefer manually leveling to give me projects in game and to get to know the character for any RP use. But when I do, I go well away from the crafting stations and banks. Given how much the light show wrecks my train of thought, I see no reason to inflict that on others. (If I’m only using 1-3 things that give the burst, like recipes, I figure it’s endurable, nor do I kvetch if someone else lets off a burst or two near me. Only when it stretches out a long time does it become truly annoying).
I can see some technical issues with making a way to consolidate the level-up tomes into single-use batches. Mostly having to do with how the level rewards are assigned; while the reward chests do stack when you ding one after another, I don’t think you get the per-level rewards for the lumps of 20, 30, 40, or 80 levels. Not that those really are needed, I just think maybe coding different behavior could be trickier than it sounds.
No no, try those runes OR signet! Either one gives you 25% speed, they don’t stack as far as I know. Be aware the runes are fairly expensive to get 7 of (aquabreathers need one if you want to swim fast too).
I was going to say about what Danikat did. I’ll just add that if you do get a keyboard with programmable profiles to swap what the keys do (eg telling it to register a ctrl-1 as an F1) likely the game will still see that as an F1 press and thus label that box on your UI as F1. If you never pay attention to the UI info on the hotkeys this may not matter to you.
I am pretty sure that if you rebind your Interact to another key, so it’s no longer on F, the UI will change to show the new Interact key. But if you are just telling your keyboard “when I press O, please tell the game I pressed F,” the screen will still say “F” and you’ll have to remember what you bound it to.
It seems like for some of these you just don’t like one specific thing about the profession. Often you can just not do that part. Don’t like Druid? Don’t use the Druid spec. Don’t like Grenades? There are many other utilities you can slot in.
For Reaper, if the only thing you don’t like is the slowness, then either take the Signet of the Locust utility or deck your armor with Runes of the Traveler (I did the latter for 2 or 3 of my Reapers). Sure, it’s no longer min-max, but it removes the one thing you loathe
For Mesmer yes, it can require more juggling of skills. It took me a very long time to figure out using F5 on Chronomancer and even now I don’t instinctively include it in combat. It’s a profession full of situational tricks that need fast reflexes to use properly. Still, if you practice by focusing on one part of it for a while, eventually all the pieces come together and you have a lot of variety in your fights (unlike Warrior). Also it can change a lot just by swapping a couple of utilities, which meets your on-the-go changes requirement.
I don’t know which ones are going to be the best in all game areas as I am PvE focused. Then again you don’t mind being less viable so long as you’re having fun. You don’t like being squishy, you don’t like the repetition and low weapon choices of the heavies, so Necro/Reaper or Mesmer/Chronomancer do seem the best fit for you.
What I would like to see is the ability to set a custom folder where screenshots are saved. Currently screenshots are saved automatically on my desktop, which means that I have to manually move and rename every single screenshot I take, quite an annoying task.
I like this suggestion but until it is implemented, if it ever is, here’s how I do it and it really isn’t much of an imposition:
I keep a Games folder and in it among other things I have folders for screens from various games. Then in GW2Screens I have folders that are date labeled. Eg 2013Oct, HoTBWE1, etc. Every now and then … could be each month, could be 3 months, just so long as it’s before I fill up the default folder … I go to the default screens folder in Users, sort by date, and select everything from a particular month. Cut, Paste in the relevant folder in Games, done. That preserves the raw screens in date order in small sets of images, no need to rename since duplicate shot numbers won’t matter given the date sorting. Then if I have particular shots I want to process or just sort into character-or-event-specific folders, I can do so while still keeping the raw images in their full size.
While it is player run, there is a sticky at the top of the main discussion forum that lists any specials, discounts, new items, or disappearing items. The gem store generally updates around 9 am Pacific and the thread gets an update any time from a couple of minutes to an hour later. Just check there daily, only takes a moment to see if anything new has been added. Once a week might mean missing a one day sale item but so far I don’t recall there ever being something available for less than 24 hours (unless pulled for bug reasons, and then put back in).
Remember not to comment in that thread on opinions on the listings. It can get cluttered up with discussion that swamps the informative value. Feedback threads go in the non-sticky realm
How much chest hair are you asking for? My human male guardian is definitely fuzzy. Pretty much every male build in the creator has a hairless and hairy option.
If nothing else each alt that does the story will get a thumb. Soulbound, though.
I suspect that it’s only a curio at this point and yes, they’ll replace it if it turns out to be needed. I’m holding onto it because I do keep such mementos but I wouldn’t freak if I lost it. The thing I have too many of but really don’t want to trash is/are broken Caladhbolgs.
Yes, as I say, the only part I consider a bad idea is the loss of starter area flavor. Actual game systems work very well as revamped.
I think the only thing we had that’s gone that I still feel should come back is how the starter zones were before the NPE. I don’t mind the additions that came with it — dodge training, changes to weapon unlocks, popup hints, etc, I think those do help new players. I’m not even really upset by the lack of PS until level 10, though I don’t think that was a great change.
But oh, how I mind the subtractions! The convenient TP npcs, the bundles, golem chess, actually feeding cows … the NPE sterilized the starter zones of a lot of their rich whimsy and I continue to feel that was a mistake.
I like to `/w <player> <msg>` but some player names are difficult to remember or type. Is there a way to auto-complete a player’s name when I type it for party/squad invite, whisper, etc?
If they are in your friends list (or in your guild) you can bring up that list (or guild panel) and right click their name and select the whisper or invite option. To whisper someone in your party, right click their portrait. To invite someone who is in your field of view, click them and right click on their target portrait. To whisper to various people in parallel private chats just right click their name in the chat box from when they’ve said something.
Tldr: Right click the name from a list, chat, or target. I think the only name I ever type out for whispering or inviting is that of one of my alts when I am whispering links to myself so I can then view them as I alt hop.
I do type out commander names to /squadjoin X, so long as they don’t have special characters in their names. If so, I have to target them near me and right click the portrait.
And, if you know an easy alt name of someone, you can /w that easy name and it will go to them no matter how convoluted their currently played name is.
It boils down to aesthetically sure why not but technically it can’t be programmed to work based on core game design without devoting most of their resources to redoing every piece of armor in the game.
Or use http://dulfy.net/2015/11/09/gw2-hot-maps-timer-famme/ — not as much detail as the wiki page one but super easy to read and to spot day/night at a glance (the VB timer at the top tells you the day/night time and duration, which is global to the open map areas of the game).
Keep in mind that the “Placeholder Outfit” is data mined. Even the tool tip may not be accurately attached or written or ever coming to the game. You may wish to stop this thread before mods take issue with your discussing prospective data mined content (which they will no matter how benign or helpful your intentions) and start another one on the merits of skins only available via cash-bought RNG boxes. Or join the thread on the glider to address this bigger issue.
I like a lot of the Aether and Merciless skins and I like all the Privateer (though the axe will be my last one to get of those as I don’t like the bottom curl on the blade, useful blood flicker though that may be). I’m very fond of Ebonblade/Cobalt and any other realistic looking weapons that look cared for rather than rust-pitted and wood-rotted. I love all the rapiers; I was a fencer for a number of years and RL have a few rapiers of my own.
I’ve gathered up a number of blingier BL skins that looked pretty to me at the time only to realize that I almost never use those for actual in-character fighting looks because I don’t believe in them as combat weapons.
To my knowledge only hairstyles that we got at release have physics. All hair added later have either no physics or are barely noticeable.
Actually the super long norn braids do have physics. And the curly human female ponytail (not the one shown in OP) has a bit of springy bounce to it. But yeah, for the most part the new hair is made of shellac.
Thanks for the correction on not needing the rift device, Danikat. I didn’t know about tagging an anomaly for the Burden of Choice quest until I’d done my rifts so I got confused about correlation. Still, people without the device might want one anyway as it does offer easy transport to some hard to reach places, at least so long as the rifts work.
Flesh, I didn’t go into detail due to spoiler concerns (yes, even now) but I think I did imply the need to complete the quest started by an anomaly tag to get the cure
They should adjust the price further, for those that already own the Lich Outfit too.
Good point, I didn’t notice that and I do have the outfit. Happily I’m not buying the bundle so it’s all hypothetical gem costs for me.
I do feel sorry for those who only want the outfit out of the bundle
It does not include a new shared slot. My price would be 1655 gems if I bought the bundle.
For the Aurene Backpack: Note that Preview does not work in the Gem Store (nothing shows up on your back) but the backpack is in the bank wardrobe and can be previewed there.
edit: Cedo has managed to do it. Perhaps a bug was fixed. Perhaps it was an issue specific to me; on the day it arrived I could not get the image of it to load in the Style section whereas other back items did load that day. Hooray if it works in the Gem Store, though!

If you don’t want to see them any more, go to northeast Fields of Ruin and jump through the hoops to get a rift stabilizer, then run into one of the ghosts to trigger a quest to be cured.
Literally jump through the hoops
When the black wings first came out they were paper mache stiff. In an update they gained their current flowy physics.
Just think of them as crafted costumes rather than articulated wings. It helps with the suspension of disbelief
I also have not played GW1 enough to know the lore very well, but Malchor does spring to mind. (And also springs off cliffs). He was a sculptor, though, not a singer or musician.
I used to only play women. I couldn’t figure out the male psyche to RP well no matter what I did. All the advice about writing character first, gender second was something I could intellectually understand but my male characters were caricatures. Then I made the first version of Donari, a blood elf swashbuckler rogue, it clicked, and now …
Humans — male thief, guardian, mesmer, ele; female necro, warrior, engineer, and female mesmer made to be male thief’s sister (she is not icly a mesmer, I just wanted light armor for clothing, but she is my fractals main). The engie is my newest alt, I wanted a leveling project and someone who could wear sandals.
Sylvari — male warrior, mesmer; female guardian, necro.
Norn — male engie; female ranger, necro, rev — necro was made to match my beta reaper, rev to use up the 80 boost and get norn T3 heavy. My norns were gender balanced until those two.
Asura — male necro, female mesmer
Charr — male rev, female ele
Total: male 9, female 11.
Of these, only the male ’vari warrior, female norn ranger, and female norn rev have zero back story or RP schticks. The rest have at least origins if not copious in-game RP to develop their personae.
In my guilds when we get on voice chat it’s clear at least half of us are women. We do communicate out of game, we even meet RL when we can, and yeah, I don’t see any statistical male dominance.
Not that it matters. Play the character that fits the story best for you. Accept that the other players around you are doing the same. Authors don’t only write their own gender (ok, good authors don’t), so why should people using game characters to experience a world be limited to those that match their flesh and blood selves?
I mean, I’m a frail, out of shape, skinny woman. Does that mean I don’t get to play a handsome, charming, super-agile, super-dextrous male thief? (Oh, he has flaws too. But he’ll never admit them).
I think E is Lord Faren. Jory didn’t notice anything non-human worth mentioning in the man who grabbed her from behind and if Faren were truly as incompetent as he seems he’d have died long ago. He is Kryta’s Scarlet Pimpernel as far as I’m concerned. There’s no reason for E to be the actual initial of the secret person; they’re clearly well-informed and intelligent, why on earth would they use their own initial?
It’s just a play on “mystery” to sign things “Mr. E.”
It’s just RNG. The more elite collections you do, the more likely you’re going to run into one or two that just won’t drop. For me it was the Silencing Down Feather for Bo, along with a tiger bit for the berserker torch and dust devil bits for the ele warhorn. Annoyingly, those were all drops off things I didn’t tend to kill as part of events so I had to go out of my way to farm them at very boring length. Other things I didn’t kill as part of events dropped their thing fast enough not to be an issue, such as the one off the oakhearts in Phinney Ridge.
You’re not alone; these threads show up every time someone hits an RNG wall on one of these elite mob-specific items. Take heart — eventually the item does drop for everyone posting their woes.
A guildie and I are using Lulleh’s guide to do maps to level her alt. We ran into this bug. We were able to swim to get the poi as described above, but the heart eludes us until this is fixed.
Amaimon go to wvw and get the tribal walkers from the reward track they’re almost as good as invisible boots for light armor thats what i’m going to do when i finish my current track. I ended up paying near $300 for a pair of medium boots because i couldn’t stand it anymore (not having them) but i’m not doing it again for light boots anet can stick that right up their bum.
I looked them up, alas they paint your feet white…
Can you dye the “paint?” If so, use a dye close to your skin tone.
Also to bridge between GW1 and GW2 there are a few novels. None of them are great literature (and one is actively painful to read) but they do give a sense of the world’s lore and the lore of the “iconics” ie Logan, Rytlock, Caithe, Taimi, Eir (and Snaff). Those are Sea of Sorrows, about the rising of Orr and what it did to Lion’s Arch, Ghosts of Ascalon, about a team of treasure hunters going for a major artifact that was part of a catastrophe, and Edge of Destiny, about the iconics meeting, forming a team, and facing an Elder Dragon.
The latter is the painful one. When a grown human and a grown charr sound like puerile pre-teen human brats, it hurts. But it really is important to understanding all the in-game dialogue you see from the iconics.
(I did enjoy Sea of Sorrows much more than the other two. I just don’t know that I’d have liked it if I weren’t a GW2 player. The curse of game-related novels).
Now that is a better image than the wiki one the OP found. Alga, you might be able to use that one to go stand in the same place and lighting to get tones that look the same in the same conditions.
Sadly while I might have a pic of that trainer area I’d have to go through hundreds of shots looking for it as I don’t recall ever specifically snapping a shot there and certainly not one aimed at the trainers. I might have something in my romp as a snow leopard kitten soon after I first got the endless cat tonic … hmm … /goes to rummage
edit: Sorry. Found the cat pics (April 2013) but they are in the merchant area, not the trainers. I know I had an RP in the trainer area at some point but I don’t know when that was or with which alts.

A reminder to everyone whether or not your clocks will change tomorrow night: this weekend is “Fall Back” for most of the US, when clocks get set back one hour as of 2 am Sunday. ANet’s time will be affected. This means that if your time remains the same, the hour for Guild Chat will be different until the spring time change, the time your friends and guild mates get home from work will change, etc.
And if your time changes, remember that the game’s daily reset will be an hour earlier on the clock as it is not based on US time. For example I am in Eastern time; reset for me is 8 pm (20:00 hours for you 24 hour users). As of Sunday, reset for me will be at 7 (19:00 hours).
Enjoy your feeling of getting an extra hour’s sleep in the morning, don’t get caught by surprise by an “early” reset, and please don’t get too depressed by how dark it is in the evening!
Most of them came when I had income. I haven’t actually counted, it isn’t necessarily over a hundred, but it is a few tabs. Some are multiples of things like the celebration hat and other once-town-clothes that got converted. There are BL skins I got when they were one ticket because I liked them but didn’t yet have an alt that was right for them. Then there’s the issue that a lot of gem skins now unlock in Wardrobe when bought, I forget to look by the time I’m using the skin, I use a charge … And then there are the armor sets which I might use one piece of and then I have five more pieces waiting for if/when they suit a look.
At any rate, the only purpose of an unlocked account bound skin is to give you one free application of that skin. I understand that a transmutation charge is fungible but I can’t see how it makes any financial difference to ANet at all if a player uses the free charge to change to something other than the sold skin. Maybe that’s because I don’t spend gems on charges? Regardless, the skin is a charge and nothing else, so why not have the option of turning it into one to clear out inventory space?
I’d really like this (and have asked for it and agreed with others who asked for it over the years). Sure, one or two or ten items aren’t enough transmutes to worry about losing if you need the space, but by the time you get to 75 or over a hundred skins you start to realize you’re giving up a lot of gem-value if you just delete them unused.
I don’t know if anyone’s still doing them but I do recall those being listed on the Dulfy guide at the time. That’s how I learned about them.
I did make a norn necromancer in the first BWE but have only a couple of shots of him and none of them by the trainers. Sorry
Can you do with tonics what you do with miniatures and make them a tab option that lists all available? One for limited and another one for endless tonics.
As I went through my bank tabs:
auric dust
obsidian shards
blade shards
Auric dust and obsidian shards do already go into storage. You might have more than your max capacity, be that 250 or 2000. Blade shards have been confirmed to get into mats storage. So you’re covered!
Something to make AP chests fun once more. Linking the thread here so it can get to the eyes of devs looking for good ideas. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-New-Wardrobe-Unlocks-AP-Chests/first#post6389201
(short version: please (retroactively) add Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlocks to AP chests. The thread contains some refinements of the suggestion).
I really really like this suggestion. Though I’d prefer them to have some way to check and only back-reward those chests the account received after the PvP skins stopped dropping in the chests. I say this as someone who got a good number of PvP skins via AP chests before the change, I don’t think I should get to double dip.
Even so this would be a superb way to jazz up the AP chests to make them really fun once more. Kudos for the idea!
Ok, that is one of the few times I’ll agree on keeping a skin exclusive. If it’s marketed (touted? this one wasn’t directly sold) as “this marks a thanks for your doing a specific thing,” then baby-cat well never randomly hand it out to people that did not do that specific thing! I consider this different from content-related things like the holo dragon wings which should be achievable via playing the game even if one missed LS1. The baseball cap with GW2 logo was for being there at the start, the Royal Guard outfit was for being there before F2P came, and they need to stay that way.
I hope this is an error and it will be removed from the loot table post haste.
(for clarity: I am responding to above posts stating that the Royal Guard Outfit has a chance to drop for free accounts via the RNG wardrobe unlock in BLCs).
I’ve seen a couple of posters seem to misunderstand the wardrobe unlock — it’s not guaranteed every chest will have one, but if you get one (as the occasional 4th item — I got 3 4th items in 26 chests, one of which was a wardrobe unlock) then it’s guaranteed to give you something you don’t yet have.
I intend to winnow through my wardrobe for the cheap to buy skins I don’t happen to have yet and gather them up so any future unlocks won’t have those to troll me with.
I’m curious what number won the raffle
I’m so confused about this whole “guaranteed skin” thing.
So I will never get any skin I already have in the TP anymore? which means, I will never be able to sell those skins?
I don’t think this is quite right. You can get a skin — current set is the Improvised Weapons — that you can sell. I cannot prove that you can get one you’ve unlocked as I have not yet unlocked any of the Improvised iirc, but it seems likely. The random skin unlock listed is the Wardrobe Unlock, which is account bound, and unlocks one thing you don’t yet have. The one I got turned into a rare-quality group-1 mini, the river drake broodmother, unlocked directly rather than becoming an in-backpack mini. For all I know I could later get a mini egg that drops the same one and then sell that.
You need to be standing pretty much directly on the event marker dot. Then equip the device and hit 1.
If you don’t yet have a device, there should be some permanent rifts near the pond to jump through to start the process.
Hello, are the Permanent Access items ( hair contract, bank access etc.) still droppable through black lion chests? And will the Trick or Treats bags will be removed from black lion chests as Halloween ends? Thanks in advance!
1 — yes, at least they show up in the Preview under “super rare.”
2 — It stands to reason that once we are out of the Halloween season (in a week), the “seasonal item” drop will no longer be a tot bag.
In 25 chests, of note I got the new glider, a bl ticket and enough scraps for another ticket, an unlock of a rare mini from collection 1, a mini claim ticket, and a sellable improvised rifle skin.
For previewing the bags and boxes you don’t have to have one in inventory. You can go through the ones in the TP and right click there for preview.
I’ve had it happen in past years. It’s happening to me now. Started after reset on Oct 30 when none of my pumpkins I’d carved were available for new carving. After reset on Oct 31, the ones I’d carved the last two days were still carved. I will run out of non-Lab pumpkins to carve for the daily at this rate.
In LA: by bank, by BLTC, by crafting station, by docks wp, in Crow’s Nest, by fractals area, and down in the alcove north of the Crow’s Nest, all are stuck. It seems the Shaemoor ones I used last night -have- reset, however, so it’s an LA issue.
I’ll be sad if we never get a CM-style hall (the full estate, not just the one building). Though hmmm .. with Caudecus in disgrace they could give a story reason for guilds to go root out his sympathizers and secure the estate for themselves … /dreams
(just let us build a ball room, a big glorious ball room, pleeeeease — it’s all CM lacks).
