Goodbye, five years of discussion history in a simple condensed format. /salute

I know it had to happen, and I think the new forums have a lot of good things and some of the “bad” things will just take adjustment to the change. I’m just sad to lose the contents of the old forums. They’ve been part of my life for a long time.

There are also a couple of minis and glider skins you can quest for in game (angry gift box for instance). However, you must purchase the starter item with gems, and that may only be seasonally available.

Then perhaps you haven’t chosen it to train? Which two or three masteries do you know? (If you mean you have spent 3 mastery points so there is a “3” to the left of your xp bar). If you mean you have just gained 3 mastery points, you still have to actively spend one on gliding to learn it by clicking the box at the right side of the gliding mastery tier in the mastery tab of your hero panel, accessed either by the bottom left tab on the hero panel or clicking the little icon to the right of your xp bar.

There are also a very few training dummies around the world. The ones I can think of right away are in Camp Resolve (entry to Silverwastes), north side, next to the exit from the Camp. There’s a set of three there, so you can’t single-target very easily, but you can beat up on them forever and nothing will aggro you.

Bear in mind that beyond the issue of the game being designed for players not to need dedicated healers other than themselves (except in raids), a very real frustration will lie in the fact that you can’t toggle other players’ health bars to always-visible. So you either have to watch the party/squad UI (and lose attention to your immediate surroundings and still not be sure where the hurting person is) or keep waving your cursor over people to flash their green bars.

You may wish to consider going for support builds more than specifically healer builds. At that point Guardian is a solid choice as it is chock full of buffs and cleanses and it feels like you’re there to help the team.

Ah, once your experience bar is full you need to go to your mastery panel, look to the right end of the Basic Gliding tier, and click to learn. It verifies you want to spend your mastery point, you say yes, yes I do, please learn, and then you know gliding. At that point you should be able to converse with the scout right by the shipwreck WP (don’t wander too far while he talks or you have to listen all over again). From there your story will continue.

Masteries are always a two step process: One, train up with xp while accumulating mastery points; Two, spend the mastery points you’ve gathered on a fully xp’d tier to actually learn it.

Due to the recent aurageddon (and the horsemen of the wingpocalypse preceding it), I’m not firmly in favor of a detailed set of options (preferably checkboxes) that would allow me to tweak my visual experience.

I’d absolutely love to have the ability to disable backpacks and character auras on other players and at the same time bring back skill visuals and auras.

In context, I think you meant now rather than not?

I don’t really mind the bling around me, seeing as how I play zoomed very far out and the bling takes up about an inch on my monitor. But I’m all for more options, especially ones that can improve game performance for those generally unable to run the game on max.

Did you have the https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Incomplete_Catalytic_Converter in your inventory? Were you in the boss group doing damage to the boss?

I remember having some issues finding active events I needed, but the only times I didn’t get a boss item drop when killing the boss was when I had to activate an item and then kill the boss inside the buff timer and forgot to keep my buff up. I don’t think the converter needs activation, but you likely do need it on you and to be part of the dps on the kill.

I’d say Reaper (the Necromancer elite) using Greatsword and Shouts, with one trait line grandmaster set to auto-shroud when taking a killing blow. There’s some great green-black special effects especially when in shroud form, gap closers and some dancing between shroud and normal state, the weapon skills and shouts blend well together and you have time to consider which ones you want to use at any given moment since Reaper is made for slow-and-inexorable rather than lightning twitch reflexes. You still have to consider saving your CC for blue bar breaking, and figure out when to gap close and when to stay away using a ranged weapon, but I’m not sure you can get a simpler yet still highly effective “rotation” on any other current profession.

I put rotation in quotes because GW2 does have a bit more situational use and varying synergies of skills depending on the fight moment to moment than WoW (I was a Fire/Arcane Mage in WoW for many years, did some non-LfR raiding with my guild).

In terms of use, my Reaper has been my go-to for helping friends with LS instances or leading them to HoT HP. She’s very tanky so I can wade into fights, or survive enough to rez my flimsier companions. She’s not raid-optimal, but I don’t raid in GW2 /shrug.

What you should do is go into the Mists lobby and head to the golems. Any character you take there is auto 80 with gear you can set the stats on, as PvP is about skill rather than better gear than other players. The exact nuances of stats and skills will be a little bit different there but the overall mechanics and animations will be the same, so you can make a character, head to the lobby, test it out, and delete it so as to make room for the next test. It’s not a perfect simulation — I found the Scourge (upcoming Necro elite with PoF) confusing and clumsy in the PvP weekend test but highly effective in the recent stress test in a PvE map. Still, it will give you a feel for how you enjoy the various choices.

I believe you need to interact with the star to proceed, not manually go through the portal. There should be a pop up asking if you want to enter the story when you run on top of the green star.

That comes once you’ve done the prologue — have you done the non-repeatable instanced SW trek that starts at the red fort? What is the story step text in the upper right of your screen saying? If you open your Hero Panel to the HoT story section, do you have an option to Play This Episode on the first part?

Or have you already done that part? Have you got Gliding ready to train and a mastery point ready to spend? If so you need to get XP in VB until you have filled your xp bar, then spend the point, then you’ll have gliding and be able to do more story.

This. The lion’s share of my block list goes to gold sellers and to emote spammers. Almost no Map chat has someone so horrid that I want to be sure never to see them again.

You can jump normally with raptor as well. In options you can change the “long” jump to act as a dodge (and be activaded with V), and then you have a normal jump, like a player character would (with space).

Oooh, wish I’d seen that. I got to do the test since my mom needed me to stay home to take delivery of some boxes (though then she needed me to come do other stuff that conflicted with the Guild Chat stream so sadly I missed that one).

Mindful of Gaile’s request that we make new characters, I deleted my Renegade from last time and made a Scourge. To save time I didn’t customize her much, just swapped out the default scepter for a Viper’s axe and swapped a trait line, plus traited her to make just one big sand minion so as to get around my ground targeting deficiencies.

I didn’t think to skip the story (besides, the devs needed people working on that, plus it was a good crucible test for solo Scourge). I was pleasantly surprised. In the PvP weekend I’d only gone against golems, and only for a few minutes each. That time, Scourge felt unwieldy and low power. Today it did very well for me, handily beating the story as well as helping out against hydras and bounties. I think I only had to death-wp one time, and that was trying to solo the mine HP which I’d never seen before; got the HP guy down to 8% and downed-skill him down even further before I succumbed.

There’s still learning curve on Scourge for me but I think I’ll make it work.

As for bugs, I didn’t notice anything during the test that stood out. The raptor worked fine (oh, yes, thanks so much for having the raptor unlocked from the start), other than hitching up at tiny little ridges and not normal jumping, which I will fix next time with the hint I quoted. I even came in second in the race! (I did note that the raptor seemed willing to do its special long jumps even when I was low on endurance, so perhaps I should have used the jump more liberally in the race and maybe won. Grats to Volosmith on that win). I unlocked the second mastery step and enjoyed the “Interrupt” I saw on many mobs as I skidded into combat with them.

-After- the stress test, within ten minutes after it concluded, I did experience something odd which may or may not have been related: I got on my usual dailies completion Reaper and went to the Metrica Potato Farm for daily foraging. Hopping up the steps my screen suddenly froze, but instead of then crashing, the game restarted with me on the ground below the steps, somewhat damaged, and autorunning. Thereafter the game behaved normally for the rest of my daily completion.

What allows stalking is that people can friend you without your consent. The followers tab is merely a list of those who have done so. Thus, the tab is not the tool that allows stalking (other than, perhaps, the stress the followed person has at seeing the name there).

What you may need is the ability to prevent a blocked person from following you (for when they do, they can see where you are). Having a list of followers does not make them stalkers.

Based on that, 17:00 GMT is correct for 10 am Pacific.

Could we have somenthing new in the map? Like a single new area? Or a single new event? It’s becoming boring to me to play always the same things in the small portion of the new map, I’ve already did everything more than once.

The point isn’t for the players to be entertained, it’s for the system to get a load of players. If the map itself is boring by now, perhaps you can join up with others to do things deliberately meant to stress the systems. Or spend time splurging away your bank contents (only on demo characters please!) since nothing you do on the demo character affects your real account. Use up your transmute charges on outrageous looks. Make as many characters in a row as you can to toss around new elite bling. Etc.

Donari.5237

Hi !

Are there any prerequisites for the new specializations in the upcoming expansion PoF ? I mean, if I didn’t invest any hero points in the berserker elite spec for my warrior, could I still use them for the Spellbreaker spec ?

We don’t know yet. On spec, many players are running alts through HoT HP zergs to slurp up all the extra HP they can. The main question is whether ANet will this time be ok with people unlocking the elites very quickly or will again want players going through the content for a while first. Or it could be a combination, you can apply HoT HP (which are fungible with Pact HP, really) to PoF elites, but must also do some quest lines in PoF to get the right to spend the HP on training.

But think of it this way: worst comes to worst and your banked HP don’t help, you can go ahead and get the berserker elite after all Meanwhile you’re as ready as anyone else is for PoF.

One needn’t be lazy to not be able to use this device. For instance, I have terrible arches and calves. Walking for too long cripples me, though I can manage a gym’s treadmill at low speeds while gripping the supports. Kneeling is muscle spasm pain in seconds.

I’ve read of players who are missing limbs, who only have use of one hand, etc. They’d also have issues with this without being at all lazy.

My point is that yes, that does look like an awesome way to play games for those physically fit enough. But suggesting the rest of us are “lazy” for needing more sedentary methods is an unnecessary insult that derailed my attention from your actual concept.

(Also I don’t think the game can readily be adapted to this sort of thing without a huge rework, but as I don’t work for ANet ankitten ot a computer programmer I’ll leave it to the devs to confirm/deny that argument).

After a guildie spent months, maybe over a year, of constantly doing fractals and never getting the fractal spoon while we linked our 2 or 3 gained per run just to tease her, I dread the thought of some similar RNG nightmare trying for Siege Commander with the added bonus of the stress of wondering when some other players are going to show up to murder me. Got a couple more non-flashy. Street rat Warrior who just has basic armor and a decent greatsword she found in a pawn shop; eyepatch not visible in this shot but she lost an eye to friendly fire in the LA invasion.

Ash Legion Revenant (he was the muscle for his scouting warband until something happened in the Mists, and a distraction, so he doesn’t have to wear dark colors. But this is just normal armor, non-flashy — I have given him the foefire wraps since this pic but dyed them to blend in).

I also have a Guardian in as subdued heavy armor as I can manage, but to conceal the armor nature of it I had to dye it very dark so it looks a bit edgelord. I’m not posting it here due to that but it does have short sleeves and basic pants. If only I could get the hoodie and human male town clothes trousers back, I’d make him super non-flashy.

I’d love to have looks templates too. I’m not disagreeing one bit.

But I will say that if you have a specific look you really like, it’s not that hard to make a Word doc to list the armor pieces used and the dyes on each. Just be consistent on what order the dyes go in. E.g., my list of preferred outfit dye schemes for each character lists the dyes as
1 2
3 4
so I know that (random selection here) Butterscotch, Flare, Pyre, Celestial are in the corresponding numbered slots. If there were fewer channels, I’d still go top row from left side to its end, then bottom row from left side to its end.

Annoying to have to track it outside the game, yes, but why let fear of forgetting prevent you from trying out new looks? This is why we have written language, to preserve knowledge

Support for more bank tabs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Donari.5237

more bank tabs. I have 43 characters, I need at least five more bank tabs for all my junk. Or make it so I can sell all my account bound and soul bound stuff on the marketplace.

If you’re ok with selling your account/soul bound stuff then why are you not ok with throwing it out?

Because if you could sell it, you could also buy it back later. What’s kept in the bank are things you can’t easily get again.

Not that I think we should be able to TP the bound stuff. Maybe some of it is silly to bind, but not all. It’s part of the game economy that items have to leave circulation in order to make players have to go get more of them. Still, I fully understand the point that one wants some use out of items rather than just junking them. I mean, I could toss probably 3 bank tabs of bound unlocked skins. I’d be tossing that value in transmutation charges too, and since most of them cost me real money as I’ve said above, I dislike ditching a chunk of the item value. (Yes, I should just use them up on armor looks — I do, from time to time, but I don’t always remember to check the bank for skins when putting a look together. They really should just convert to fungible charges >< ).

Support for more bank tabs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I would love more tabs available as well. In any game I go for as much storage as I can (not necessarily as much bag space on all alts, getting over 20 alts fully 20-slot-bagged is … prohibitive).

However, my bank tab needs would also be met very nicely, for quite some time, if ANet heeds players’ calls for the option to convert bound skins into transmute charges. Add in a tonics wardrobe and ooooh the spaces I’ll see!

So yes, I’ll happily declare my interest in adding tabs but if other space-saving options are implemented, I’ll happily take those in lieu. The skins thing might work better, actually, since it would be an ongoing method of not filling up slots with cash-bought items rather than a stop-gap.

Why are they finally adding mounts now? Mounts are one of the most popular items in MMOs and are easy to sell. Just look at how many people have store gliders. Mounts will be far more commonly used and there are multiple types. They’re just trying to appeal to more people and raise profits after they took a hit with HoT.

The rest of your post is well-founded but I think this bit is inaccurate. They were working on mounts well before HoT came out. They didn’t know HoT would “take a hit” (if it did) when they started.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

It’s not that I am uncomfortable with my own gender/sexuality. It’s just since I first started playing online games where, character creation was a thing. I would always try to identify with some part of the toon itself, or model it after some facet of myself, as a way of immersing myself into the game, even if it’s only, “Pixels”.

Now I could see myself making a female toon, only, maybe see it was my feminine side coming to life. I know I am going too much into it, and this is just a game, but, it’s sometimes hard for me to get behind something such as progressing in a game like this, if I don’t feel like I can relate to my toon.

I’m an odd one, sorry, but thanks for all of the responses.

People are a lot more than their gender, imo. It doesn’t have to be your “feminine” side, OP. I have an RP main who is not only a guy, he’s an extroverted ladies man who shudders at the idea of monogamy (poor him, his family’s story has maneuvered him into having to be the heir after all). None of that is me. But he does include my enjoyment of fine food, appreciation of well tailored garments, and general desire to be liked that leads to being nice to other people rather than cruel.

I also have a shiftless ex-Seraph guardian who embodies my distaste for cleaning the house and preference to lie around having fun rather than buckling down to do what must be done Both of them also contain personae snippets that aren’t me at all, too, it’s just helpful to be able to empathize a little with them so as to flesh them out and care what happens in their stories.

Putting facets of yourself in the characters you write, be it in an MMO or in text fiction, does not mean you’re somehow identifying with something you yourself are not in RL. It just means you’re injecting some plausible depth.

(I must say that until Donari’s first incarnation as a WoW blood elf swashbuckling rogue ship’s captain, my track record at writing believable men was dismal. I started out, for instance, with a dim wit strong arm misogynistic thug who liked to drown kittens and whose only saving grace was he would never sell out his boss. He always got his comeuppance, though, once I whispered others in the RP to make it clear I knew he was a jerk and they should trick him into failure as they pleased. But in GW2, alt friendly as it is, I have a good chunk of male characters that I think hold up well in RP).

Note in that quote it says “upon initial release.” That’s not “never.”

Also in the Mounts stream this week when talking about initial designs and choosing what to do with mounts there was an off hand reference to “we worked on that one for at least a year.” Plus I had a friend who toured ANet studios 3 or 4 years ago and saw them working on mounts (my friend stayed super quiet about it due to respecting NDA).

This is not a sudden thing.

Adorable as corg-asura might be, I’ll point out that they haven’t done half the work as OP says. They have a cute little black and white sketch from a brainstorm doodle session. That’s a -huge- way away from developing models, mount skills, running/attacking/idle animations, dye channels … or did you not yet see the hilarious blooper reel of early versions of the mounts we have?

You have to tell the group not to revive you. The problem is the npcs also rez you … one time I was trying to die on my reaper because I was there to help a friend who’d gotten stuck in the peanut gallery and he was the one who had to do the finishing move.

Between auto shroud and the npcs and being tossed back up into the npcs’ loving embrace if I jumped off the platform, I simply could not die for a very long time.

My plan is to go in on a squishier profession and deliberately nose dive into the pain after one short glide in the first air phase. After warning my group mates I’m doing it on purpose, of course.

I would of never expected a Corgi mount so not sure why the disappointment. The video is 11 hours long so I don’t wanna look for the concept myself to see what’s going on. Feel free to post it.

The video is only about 1.5 hours long, actually. But Dulfy has you covered.

Should LW progress be account based?

I’d hate to make it all account bound. I took a lot of alts through Hearts and Minds to get the ley boxes at the end and get an ascended armor piece. I took several alts through chapters that gave a choice of light-med-heavy armor pieces at the end. I used story to get xp towards masteries.

The achieves are account wide. So you don’t have to take every alt through, only those you feel like in order to get bonus rewards. Converting story progress to account wide would be a nerf not a QoL.

I am puzzled by why the Weaver Water Stance heal is not available as an underwater skill. Perhaps some mechanics of it prevent that (I confess I was not really reading the tooltips in my short time today) but it seems … odd.
