Invisible Shoes! What the?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Donari.5237

I’d love invisible shoes just because I think a lot of charr shoes look ridiculous.

But what I’d pay good cash money for is an invisible backpack skin. So many times I’ve managed to make an outfit for a given character that I’m pleased with, only to find I really don’t like ANY of the backpacks. I mean I need one, for stats, but I don’t want to see one on every alt.

You can just check the box in your hero panel to toggle the backpack to invisible, same as with hat, shoulders, and gloves.

Can Someone Please help me find out what these things are?
I’ve been playing GW2 Since 2012 and I’ve never come into contact with these things up until recently, Is there anyone out there who knows a little bit more about this?

Holy necro! But since you ask, the answer is that they are part of Current Events (for relative values of “current” — they started appearing quite some time ago as part of the ley-line collection events) and if you manage to run through one of them you’ll unlock a collection achievement. Check https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Anomalous_vision for more if you don’t mind some spoilers. Also go chat with the krait-oil sales-asura in Lion’s Arch before you do so, he’s part of a decision you’ll make in that collection.

Create toon exactly the same as another?

Donari.5237

Note one thing though: The makeover kit is not exactly the same as the character create screen in terms of settings. At the very least it has a different grid for the face and hair panels. Also it … squishes? … the character face/body differently.

So it’s hard to get precisely the same look in creation if your screen shots are from the kit unless you pay close attention. I’ll see if I can get Donari’s kit slider settings screenshot to compare to his original creation pics to show what I mean. Or would it be better to do a compare on my newest character to show how differences currently show up? I do tend to document the sliders in creation before completing so I think I have most all my alts’ original settings available.

Separate Armor Weight from Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I really need to bookmark ANet’s information on this so I can link it fast …

ANet (perhaps unwisely) designed the three armor weights using different rigs, ie the skeletons on which the armor hangs. There are technical reasons preventing mix and match. Remember they did this design many years ago, long before launch, and back then they did have a silhouette concern as a game play feature.

I sure wish they hadn’t done that. I’d love to mix and match all the weights. But it just can’t be done unless they redesign the underlying rigs and then remake every single armor piece in the game. This is apparently so huge a task they’d have to give up on pretty much all other content for a long time, just to end up with things mostly looking the same.

So maybe if there’s ever a GW3 they’ll have learned to design for maximum flexibility in costuming, but it can’t happen with the current game.

If this has changed since ANet made detailed explanations of the issue, I’ve not seen any ANet comments to that effect.

I think the difference is that in those pre-HoT months, we knew a new system was coming and the lack of level-up “dings” was a temporary transition measure. Thus only the truly impatient would find cause to lament.

Lots of things are rather more tolerable in the short term or in moderation. I recall my college cafeteria food … visitors were amazed at how good it was but after a few months we students were deeply feeling the need to eat out.

Donari.5237

While I don’t feel “hurt” by not getting the shards, I have to say that once I got a raid boss down and was able to max my masteries, the feeling of the xp bar zooming along and the benefits of the level up occasionally doing me a good turn (restoring health in a fight, eg) has brought back an element of fun I didn’t realize I’d lost. It’s fake progress but I hit a new “level” often enough to feel I’m doing something, to get a cadence to my time playing.

So I do hope they find a way to unshackle mastery completion benefits from getting one raid boss down. The game feels livelier when the xp bar is moving through its cycle.

The weapon preview makes it look like the bow is made of a blend of Jormag and Primordus themes. Whether that suggests anything about the coming episode is pure speculation given that it could just be an artistic representation of story events. If it does have any bearing, it could mean we harness the energies of the two recently neutralized dragons to deal with the Gods gone bad. Speculation only, and I’m merely floating one possibility rather than propounding it as solid theory.

I’m just sad that my purchase of 5 rng dyes did not include any of the new ones I knew it likely wouldn’t, but I’ve been quite lucky in the past at getting a new dye out of 5 rng’s so I gave it a shot.

The previous couple of dye releases didn’t move me too much but previewing these on various armors makes me really want them — warning to those only looking at them on Dulfy’s pics, they come out very flat on her outfit whereas they actually have a lot of sheen and subtle gradient. I don’t care so much about the true white — the bloom is out of control — but the tinted ones are lovely.

Maybe they’ll be in the 5th birthday dye packs … nah. That’s coming too soon for them to make it into those.

On the head size part, do you find it too small even if you make it larger in character creation? I’ve only got one male norn so I don’t recall offhand if for some reason they don’t have the head size sliders that other races get, but you can really alter the shape a lot with those sliders.

A friend made this really handsome male norn early in the game; I think his head has been slimmed. Sorry for partially blocking him with my human there. Overall I think he’s a lot closer to what the OP is looking for than one might think a norn can get.

That is an unfortunate side effect of the scaling not really pulling higher levels down to map level, thanks to their better gear and full array of skills and traits, combined with the occasional “do 4 events in this starter map” daily.

You are most likely seeing that when level 80’s have a do-four-events daily; otherwise they don’t have much incentive to speed-roll the low level events.

Either swap it through the bank, or put it in a shared inventory slot for regular access for all characters.

New Here - Left WoW

The Living Stories are separate. They are free if you log fully into game while they are “live” (during their initial release). So you have part 5 of LS3 already, and will get part 6 when that releases, presumably in the next month or so. You’d need to buy all of LS2 and parts 1-4 of LS3, which will be prorated in the bundle to allow for what you already own.

The story sequence is: Personal Story (levels 1-80, comes with base game) > LS1 (was an experiment in constantly changing the world, no longer available, might one day be reworked to let people play it again, meanwhile there is a 3 hour player-compiled movie of all the story parts of LS1) > LS2 > HoT (comes with HoT expansion, which you own) > LS3 > Expansion (pending) > LS4 (some time after expansion release).

LS1 introduced the characters you work with in LS2. LS2 ends pretty much moments before the HoT story picks up. LS3 is chronologically a bit after HoT and deals with aftermath and new issues, but refers back to a lot of things that happened in the PS; it continues with the same NPCs you’ve been dealing with.

One final note: The expansion will include the base game and HoT in its purchase price, or at least the last time ANet announced pricing philosophy that was the plan. This is so new players don’t have to spend huge amounts to play. The rumor is that it will be lower priced than HoT was. Regardless, per ANet the price is what it is and the free inclusion of older releases is a bonus for new purchasers, not a dissing of old ones.

To those suggesting ways to redesign the crafting and use of various materials in order to reduce the need for bank storage of same, I feel ya. I agree. But that’s completely outside the project described by Linsey.

She’s finding ways to fit item stacks into an existing system, working under various constraints of said system, and has asked our input into which items have the highest priority for players. I’m loving the constructive suggestions I’ve seen on changing How Things Work and wishing like heck I’d thought of some of them. Maybe they could move to their own feedback thread? It’s valuable stuff but it’s a step beyond the current scope as best I can tell from Linsey’s posts. So it’s a distraction from what she’s actually able to do.

I believe rearranging the game’s economy is a bigger deal than just moving stuff from bags to material bank slots.

For those asking for slots for specialty legendary collection things like bauxite ore, I’d like to ask, why do you need it after the legendary is done? I mean yeah, I also am loathe to just throw out anything — I’m still building up Henge seeds now that I’ve completed the druid backpack and holding on in case ANet has a reason for them to exist beyond the druid collection — but still. I think it would be better to ask that the things stop dropping once you have exhausted your need for them than that they get a storage slot with all the technical difficulty involved just so you can throw them out less often.

It sounds like the mushroom things actually can be used in an ongoing recipe, so those might make sense to get a slot. Yet on the whole the legendary collection items exist only to inch you along towards making your once per account item and the issue lies in still getting them when you can never use them for anything again.

Legendary collections instead of grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

The collection journeys are great, but slowed production down so much that ANet took a huge PR hit for not having all the new weapons available at HoT launch. So much that even with them dropping the journeys for the newest ones, they are still nowhere near completing the set even as the next expansion looms.

Plus there was a lot of grief due to the journeys requiring events to complete/not complete that other players wanted the opposite status on.

So ANet gave up and went back to the original just-get-massive-mat-piles method. Which is still better than having to do that -plus- be incredibly unlikely to get a precursor without paying tons of gold.

Yes, this playstyle means I’ll never get to group-exclusive content or never kill Mordremoth, because on top of being not-exactly-social, I’m also very bad player and I can’t find any justification for why should I bother someone to carry me, especially when I don’t have any gold to pay for their time. But other than that, I really enjoy the way I play this game.

One of my great joys in this game is helping people with content. Even though I am an introvert in terms of not wanting the barrage of questions and irrelevant chatter when I have something else to focus on and needing plenty of mental down time to recover the expended energy, one-on-one communication that is useful to the other person makes me happy.

So if you are on NA and can play during afternoons/evenings eastern time, shoot me a PM. We can figure out a time when I can help you through the story, including Hearts and Minds. Which I refuse to solo, I did so just once and even on a Reaper it was tedious beyond belief.

New eye color ripoff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I look at things like this as extra options if I’m doing a more full makeover. I wouldn’t spend a kit just on eye shade, since the only time eye color is visible (on humans, that is, asura and charr have more noticeable effects and sylvari eyes can stand out in some faces) is in creation or if someone views you via a bobblehead. Male human Donari has vivid green eyes, his sister has very blue ones, and in game on high settings zoomed in to the face they are just dark.

So if I’m making bigger changes to appearance, then I will choose from the new eye color options if they fit the design.

As to the OP images, I agree, they are subtly different even in phone pics. Different enough to matter and burn a kit? Nope. Not if they are the only change one is making. (And I say this as someone with a good number of makeover kits built up that I seldom use since I’m usually happy with my first make of a character).

For crystalline ore you can take alts through Bitter Harvest and Hearts and Minds for a nice amount of them (which has a side benefit of getting you more ley armor pieces and completing that collection gets you an ascended armor piece), but mostly you need to do a few full DS metas then head to every pod you can find and use up all your machetes while ignoring treasure mushrooms or other combat events.

Navigating Draconis Mons

How do you get to the tombs btw? I got mine via Teleport to Friend so I have no idea how to reach it lol

you can enter via a dug-out cave in the Inquest Camp, (Rata Arcanum)
or you can go to the southern heart, then get up the cliffside, and scale the outer ring, there’s a route going from south to west along the wall (it’s a boring long walk, but the spiderman mastery makes it a bit faster)

The walk can be shortened a ton if you vine up from the submarine beach and glide around to the giant updraft over the water. That takes you up to the windrider ledge; run to the far end and vine up to the second butte, then hop the ley line up to the druid spirit. Now you just have to run from the spirit to the cliffs, vine up, hang a right, and you’re almost at the cave entrance.

But yeah, the fastest way to the tomb itself, with far fewer devourers in the way, is to take the thermal tube from the Heathen WP up to the volcano entrance, hop across the lava, take the next tube, glide as soon as you can and bank left. If you aren’t sure where the cave entrance you want is, land at the vista. Look left and down a little from where you face out over the vista, you’ll see a ledge with some unbound magic scattered along it and some creature mobs at the left end where there is a cave. Go in that cave to the back end; it has an oakheart essence right there. Use that to hop over the gap at the back of the cave (it is possible to jump-hop your way over without the vine, but with mobs chewing on you the vine is quicker). You’ll be right next to the entrance to the tomb poi.

You can leave the pit, up to that top area overlooking it. At least I did when luring the first groups up to kill them. I think you can be downed, but certainly not full dead, that ruins it.

You don’t have to kill every single chak in there, the achieve procs before you do that, but definitely the lion’s share. It can take a very long time; I did it solo on a reaper, then helped friends with it a few times. You don’t want to do anything that flees chak towards walls where they may get stuck. Fight with a bit of movement room.

Good luck!

How to start the Rift Stabilizer process?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Slippy said it well but I will add for clarification: Each time you click or type a 1-5 skill while channeling the stabilizer at a rift, it flips the one you’re on and each adjacent one as well. So if you click 5, 4 and 5 will swap to their opposites. If you click 3, then 2, 3, and 4 will each swap. The goal is to get all five to the blue (spiral?) rather than the purple (circle?).

So you see it’s not random and you can usually get it done in three clicks or less depending on the starting setup.

If something stops you from finishing, eg a Separatist trying to gank you, you can restart the channel. The rifts have a shelf life but it’s usually plenty long enough. If someone else stabilizes the rift before you do, then you will get the roman numerals as soon as you start channeling.

Extra benefit of having the stabilizer: if the daily includes doing 4 events in maps that contain rifts (seen as event dots without events on them, if you have disabled the personal story guide), the rifts count as events and take maybe 5 seconds each. However, they only count for the person that stabilizes them, so you need to find one no one else is near.
