I would adore having the Mad King and Wintersday music in the hall jukebox. Preferably without having to sink 10K mats into it. Surely in the spirit of the season this could just be, y’know, given to the players? It offers no game advantage and hopefully should be as easy to program as loading in a new track and adding it to the vendor menu.
Yes, I was a tad bitter when I decided to save space and merrily clicked away all my karma boosters only to read shortly thereafter in the forums that the powder deleted karma boost options.
Only a tad, though, as I’m swimming millions of karma and don’t feel the need to boost it. Still it was annoying to have something removed without my having chosen to dump it.
Note: Right now there is another karma boost source, I think it’s the reward from doing three Wintersday-specific dailies. The icon is a snow globe, it’s a yellow quality item, and it provides a 10% karma boost for an hour or two.
Also if you are in a guild with tavern boosts, odds are one of them is for karma.
As someone who has not done multi-loot, I would prefer not to have long gaps built in between effective map actions. It makes TD fairly dead given all the lanes can be done a very long time before Gerent arrives. It seems a dubious proposition to me to bend the meta around this unintended use and in the process hinder players engaging in the map in a normal fashion.
Thank you, Santa Charr! It was heartwarming to get the mail. As I am already highly dye-enabled I handed the dye on to a guild mate who lacked it, making him very happy, hurray! Then the wrapped gifts and encryption boxes gave me the joy of a flurry of opening.
This was so nice of you. Photo op sounds like a great plan too!
The attacking toys damage the siege machinery you’ve built. You can mouse over each siege to see its health bar. An upgrade also fully heals it. If you don’t save it from the toys, eventually they destroy it.
It’s too early to give details, and there is a Living World forum thread mentioning the new Current Event, but if you go to the Caudecus Manor entrance in Beetletun there is a new poster to read that opens a trail of posters throughout Kryta.
The information in them could be pure propaganda, or another point of view on the lore of what happened in GW1 as well as what’s going on now.
It should proc pretty fast. It worked for me when I pinned a chicken to the wall inside the cave and rapidly booted it many times, with no one else also kicking.
Many thanks for this, and for giving just enough info to get the search going. I’m so glad that plot hasn’t been forgotten.
For clarity, the DS “reset” is not the same as the daily game reset. When talking about DS reset players mean the two hour cycle others have described above.
Once you know if it is half past the even or half past the odd hour for you, that’s all you need to remember from now until the next time your time zone changes (for most of the US that will be in the spring). So when you get a hankering to do a full DS, check the clock. If one will be starting in 15 minutes or so, perfect. Head into the map and check LFG. Keep checking, also monitor Map chat for people organizing. Join a taxi squad, that makes a “seed” group for a full map and gives you a way in before it fills up. Then head to whichever lane you want to do, while watching Map to see if another lane really needs people.
That lane will likely be South
The red fort poison area doesn’t quite reach to the cliff wall. So run along the left edge until you are at the closest point to the story marker, then trot over and accept the popup. The poison ticks should not kill you in that short distance.
(They don’t kill me when I am escaping from a failed breach pit, or traversing the whole length of the green mist, but I’ve never gone full glass cannon and I do head out of the mist at the first opportunity).
Unless they’ve changed it, you can also get it by skilling up a craft. I got it way back when in 2012 or 2013 by sitting in LA raising jewelcrafting on one alt. I think the achieve popped after about 5 levels. I wasn’t even trying for it.
Mouse over the AP number in the upper left. If it shows 15K AP received from dailies/monthlies, you’ve hit the cap and dailies will no longer give you AP.
My sylvari guardian’s used https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shield_of_the_Moon for most of her existence. The open work aspect lets the aegis sit in it as an extra effect rather than as a detail blocker.
Another possibility — one I’ve seen trip others up before — is that you are trying to charge at a communing mastery point. This will not work. You need a communing Hero Point. The easiest one imo is ne of the Pact Camp WP in VB — glide down to the flat area with the beetles and hop into the wallows for a quick port to an aggro-free HP commune.

Do you have Nuhoch Hunting Mastery?
Have you spoken to Tizlak, the Nuhoch standing west of Teku Nuhoch?
Have you collected enough enzyme to talk to Tizlak again?
If so, face down hill from Tizlak. There will be a reddish protrusion from the ground. Go to that, aiming for its left side. The blue goop there should dissolve for you, and then you go through the tunnels following the green stars.

You presume that a cosmetic item will appeal to everyone with gold to burn. And that leads to the problem that if it does then it will also appeal to those with lesser wallets who will then be very unhappy they can’t get it. see Invisible Feet.
Cold weather? What’s that — oh, like under 70 degrees, right. (I live in Arizona)
My mom also lives in Arizona and it is distinctly cooler there in January as compared to June before the monsoons …
I did say for “most” northern sorts. Rabble rabble.
I very seldom need to file a ticket but I’ve gotten good service every time. Usually everything’s resolved within a day or two after I file. The one exception was when the TP would not load for me, back in 2014, and it took a week — a week of them giving me constant attention, working hard to come up with fixes, and finally figuring out a work around that lasted until I got a new computer (my registry had gotten corrupted, so it was a good thing I was ready for a new machine regardless of these problems). The game was almost unplayable due to loot clogging my bags, so I really appreciated their untiring efforts and evident concern for me. (Don’t get cynical, the gem shop worked fine iirc, it was just the TP).
I remain a very satisfied customer.
I’m not sure why people are saying that the Queensdale map isn’t all of Queensdale. Stories that don’t take place within the game probably take creative license in order to make a several-hundred-page book more interesting. Just like any story that is portrayed in different media will not be exactly the same in both media.
The important thing is that the game came first so I’m not sure how you can say it is the game that is lacking.
The question is how big the land is in lore, and that is clearly much bigger than what we see in game. Take a look at https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Tyria_(world)#Size for Konig’s mention that "Even so. In GW1, Scorpion Wire gave a measurement and I used that to measure the continent of Tyria, and got about 1.5 miles by 2 miles. Presented to devs and got “nope, it’s way bigger in lore.” " — I cannot find a dev comment directly stating this right now but I’m sure they’re out there, as for any MMO.
Did you see Warcraft? Whatever its (many) flaws, it showed Stormwind as a metropolis sprawling much more vastly than in game, it showed Goldshire as a long ride from the city, Elwynn Forest as a true many-miles woods with settlements far away from the seat of human power. That’s the idea here. Kryta cannot in-character be jogged across in a few minutes.
My general theory in any MMO in-game setting is that it is representational but not all-inclusive. We can run from the Monastery to Beetletun or to the Godslost outpost very quickly, yet we see caravans setting out as if it is a long and arduous journey. We can see a few houses where there should be thousands of them. I remember in the fall of LA, per ANet tens of thousands died in the attack — and old LA in game was a very small thematic beach resort with room to house a few dozen.
Thus Queensdale in game is a compact sample of Queensdale in Tyria. One should, imo, safely assume there to be many more small towns and fortresses than we see, longer roads and vaster forests.
And then you find out that you’ll need those HP for the next Elite Spec … I don’t think there are 350 spare HP out there, either, not once you fully unlock the Elite. I could be wrong, but that does seem a large number.
I do like the idea of profession-specific outfits earned through in-game action. I’m just not sure I’d want my HP to go to it.
This is a solid point from Cedo, and one I normally make as well. Targeted pet exploration may have its place, however. At least for those that merely require you getting to where the pet sits and waits to be charmed.
I’ll be equally happy to help you figure out core Tyria, but I know almost nothing about good ways to play Ranger/Druid as it never clicked for me and I only have one of them, with not much time sunk into figuring out the tips and tricks. Someone else would need to help you there.
Sounds like you’re on when I’m on (and even more than I am, goodness, I am also retired but I tend to sleep in >.> ).
There are tons of pets you can get in the core lands, actually. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_pet_locations will tell you where to find them — just need a green-named Juvenile X, walk up to it and press F.
In the HoT maps, you can just get to the juvenile bristleback in eastern Auric Basin, and to the tiger in Dragon’s Stand (just don’t tangle with mordrem on the way if you’re going in a non-meta map). The smokescale needs a certain amount of lane progression, I forget if it’s Nuhoch or Ogre. One of the wyverns can just be nabbed whenever, I think, the other needs you to get to the second set of events in DS, mid lane.
I may have some time tomorrow to lead you around to the spots (at least the ones that don’t need me to spend 2 hours in a meta chain), but Monday will be more free for me. Please add me to your Friends. In game, open your social panel and type Donari.5237 into the search list. Then you can hail me when you see me on line.
If you’re able to do voice chat that may be helpful as well. I like Discord best though I don’t own a channel yet. It’s not crucial, though.
I always take my Daredevil through story first. That gets the pure suck out of the way (and he’s been my RP main for years, so if there’s anything in the LS that will affect his personal story, I want to know. Not that he’s ICly the commander or anything, but things like Caudecus affect him as a noble of DR as they change the political climate, and you bet the fall of LA is central canon in his story, etc).
For LS2 I then also ran a Guardian and Mesmer through so for repeat runs for achieves I’d have several profession options. Now I’m more likely to get at least a Reaper through after the Daredevil so she can help friends out, get achieves more easily, and just generally survive.
And I took a metric ton of alts through the HoT story so as to complete the ley armor collection. Yet two achieves in Hearts and Minds still elude me ><
Anyway, running it on alts means spotting more details, seeing race/profession/order differences if any, diversifying options for achieves, and gathering more per-character rewards.
One thing you can do for getting to the top of the JP (not in the story instance, though) is to do the Rifts stuff in northeast Fields of Ruin. Setting XI on the rift stabilizer will send you to the pole above the diving pool. Turn around and glide down to the plateau to get credit for the JP as well as a chest to open.
However, DT is highly self contained. I don’t think anything in it is needed to do anything else in the game except for progressing the story. You get to Verdant Brink (first HoT map) by either going to a guild hall that is Lost Precipice and walking out the door, or by doing the HoT intro story once, which is in SW and takes no platforming at all. Well maybe a little bit once in VB’s part of the story, but nothing tricky. Just some steps to climb and narrow bridges to fight on.
If you’re on NA I can bring a mesmer along to help in and out of story. Just give me an idea of the times you’re available (I’m mostly available mid/late afternoon to late evening Eastern, depending on the day, but if I don’t know to look for you I might not be in game at all due to gym, RP, books to read ….
).
Add a search feature to the Trading Post: Locked.
This would be awesome but most likely can’t be done because then each time you load the TP you have to compare every single item for sale against your account items. Might slow it down to unusable load times or even prevent loading at all.
Right now thanks to the Preview function you can find out your locked skins/minis/dyes pretty fast and then search individually for those items.
In your concept for this, would that then prevent the alt that uses it from getting Gifts of Exploration? If not, be ready for a lot of resistance from others.
You don’t have to purchase Gem ‘packages’. You can buy only 1 Gem at a time, if you so desire. Keep an eye on the exchange; it fluctuates quite a bit over a week or two or more.
Do this by selecting Custom Exchange at the bottom right of the gem/gold exchange tab. Then you can type in a precise amount of either to purchase and see the cost before committing to buying.
The pirate outfit from the personal story for Order of Whispers (where you rescue Genna). Exactly like it, no modifications (tho I don’t know what any version other than female Norn looks like).
Individual articles of street clothing- shirts especially, and nice fitting pants.
So many plusses!
Here, human female in it. For her, it wouldn’t even need dye channels … this is what my street rat rage-filled Warrior should be wearing. (Though it’d be nice to be able to mix in regular armor helms seeing as how she lost an eye in the LA invasion).
There are many NPC outfits I drool for, but this one most of all.
My two asura are a mesmer/chronomancer and a necro/reaper. The mesmer wears vivid colors and it’s great watching her two clones run in at enemies. Animations are fun, I think, but as I fight with my camera zoomed so far out a tall human man is about 2" high on the screen lest I get severe motion sickness, I’m not really seeing those. The necromancer doesn’t gel as well though his cry of “I’ve made LIFE! .. of a sort …” when raising a minion is fun. Likely that’s because even though I can’t see animation details at my combat scale, the mesmer has a lot more motion going on.
Both of them have a scientific approach to what they do. The mesmer specializes in manipulation of solid light fields, and the necromancer considers flesh a readily renewable resource though it degrades too quickly and he constantly seeks cybernetic augmentation for his minions to extend their shelf life. (Also, he’s not nearly as good at anything as he pretends to be, not even good at the pretending part, so rough and ready flesh manipulation gets him much further than attempting to work with delicate circuitry).
Lore wise, as DeanBB says, you can make any profession work. So pick a profession you enjoy playing long term, then reverse-engineer that to get an origin story to explain the career choice.
Oh dear. Were you in the guild hall at the time? I turned the first one in at the guild guy that takes trophies near the port-in wp, as the tooltip said to do so. After I placed that one, then I found one in my bag that said it was consumable, so I consumed it while still in the hall.
I do happen to have all guild decoration permissions as I’m the main active officer, for whatever bearing that has.
ANet devs, if you’re checking this thread, I hope you can help Zangster. No kegs after a year of logging in monthly is rather worse than getting a bonus keg.
At least you got something. I consumed both of mine, and got nothing in return at all.
Did you check your guild hall Storage? That’s where decorations go when used. You can type “Keg” into the search field in the Storage tab of your guild panel to zero in on it.
I just completed the 12 months of monastery brews and got the Master Brewer’s Kit. It included an item to turn in to the guild trophy decorations guy for a keg decoration. I did so, and a keg was deposited into Storage.
I set up the keg (in our tavern, of course, not next to cliff edges as I’m not cruel), then noticed I still had a consumable keg in my backpack. So I consumed it and it added a second keg to the storage chest.
I’m not complaining and I hope it’s intended, but as that isn’t the behavior of other tokens such as we get off world bosses I thought I’d mention it as unusual enough it might not have been meant to do it that way.
Oh, I haven’t spent a dime on it. Either it’s a bug and they’ll fix it in time to get more money from people, or it’s a marketing choice they made. Were this a skin I was drooling for, I might very well see if I could get Support involved to find a way to provide it at a fair price. However, it’s more a “cool, works for Sylvari, I might use it some time despite my general preference for letting my armor show” sort of thing.
But if it were prorated down to remove the cost of the other three items, yes, I would spend some dollars on gems to get it because I only skip collecting skins that I find completely ugly and useless to me (hi, Lawless, boxing gloves, and the like).
I just wanted to bring it to ANet’s attention in case this was an oversight on their part as this is probably one of those times when they’d make more money on the backpack by not shoving it in with account-wide items most ’vari fans will already have.
Unlike other bundles in the Gem Store where the price is lowered to only cover new items for the account, Knight of the Grove remains the same price even if you already have the glider, mail carrier, and outfit unlocked even though those are account wide unlocks that cannot be applied a second time.
Thus there is a severe overcharge if one wants the new backpack, enough to either dissuade buying altogether or to cause Support to have to deal with a lot of refund requests if/when the backpack becomes available to independently purchase.
can we get an acheiment made for dyes? id like to be able to track how many more i have left to get in-game
You can! Open your Hero Panel, go to Dyes. Use the little cog (or toggle or whatever it is) at the top of the dye selections to have it show locked dyes. Sort by set. Scroll to the bottom. All your locked dyes will be there, grouped by source set. You can even right click on a locked dye to bring it up on the TP for quick buying.
I think it would actually subtract, because you can only equip/use the specialization-specific gear while in that elite. So swapping out your traits would mean what, stripping off six pieces of armor? You can’t swap just a few in a set, either, since the internal rigging of the three weights conflict with each other.
I do not think the price on this particular bundle depends on owning part. It lists on the store for 1200 gems for me even though I already have the outfit, glider, and mail carrier.
The bundle of items that includes a cloth rack and shared slot, on the other hand, does pro-rate those items out of the cost.
Actually it is also in the Knight of the Grove bundle on sale now. I shan’t be getting it since I already have the glider, outfit, and mail carrier and yet the bundle doesn’t discount by the value of those.
Feedback to ANet Marketing You could get more cash-bought gems from me if you sold that pack separately. I would imagine I’m not the only one interested in Sylvari style items who’s already got the rest of the bundle and thus won’t buy this.
I did consider making a new thread but this one seems to fit the bill.
What a nice thing to see after holiday travel! Many kudos for your creativity and kindness. I don’t much need anything myself but one thing I love is seeing others open gifts so I hope your recipients will chime in here to share their glee.
Are you able to do combination key presses on the virtual keyboard? I don’t mean to macro things, I mean like setting a target with ctrl-T. I do my best to avoid combos in my play, though of course I’m moving (with mouse) and shooting (with keys) at the same time. Still, sometimes there’s just not enough keyboard left to put every function on a single key press.
Also having to choose between moving and attacking is a real impediment in this game. I know you aren’t trying to demonstrate top tier hardcore play, and of course the game itself frowns on macros, but is there a way you, or others following your lead using the virtual keyboard, would be able to combine motion and combat? Obviously this won’t be a real option for really severely disabled gamers who truly are limited to one tiny motion/keypress at a time. I’m just trying to understand the options.
Thanks very much for posting this, by the way. It could really help someone in need.
I hadn’t noticed as it was a long chaotic day on release with me running from one shiny to the next. I’ll look when I go back in.
My side-question is, is “BF” the right acronym here? I really thought this was going to ask about the Bloodstone Fen rock targeting changes.
question if u have the model an it is account bound what can u do with it? just delete the one u have to give or show? or wait for it from dry top vendor?
Don’t delete the one you have. Buy the 10 geode one from the vendor. I didn’t realize there was a time window on it as I guess I got there at the right time/vendor status when I was collecting the gifts for Aurene. The one you have from the zephyr events is invisible to her; the one you buy from Dry Top is consumed by giving it to her, but on the other hand it’s a lovely model once on the pedestal.
New mastery feedback:
Perhaps it will just take some learning on using it but so far, unlike the Bloodstone Fen gliding combat, it feels like more trouble than it’s worth. This is because you can only use it if you find a source for a torch, and then the torch you are carrying burns out as you use it. Realistic, yes, fun, not as much. Combat gliding automatically happens when you glide, thermal tube use automatically happens when you get to a tube, but the Kodan Fire requires extra steps to use and then replaces your combat bar with skills that a) don’t seem to do much to the mobs and b) vanish after one or two uses.
It might help if one could light a flaming torch using, I don’t know, flint and steel, wherever one happens to be. Though I’m not sure how to manage that in the UI or confine it to particular areas if necessary. Maybe have scattered sticks all over the map, a’la speed and adrenal mushrooms, that one can run into to gain a torch when desired, and have them far more abundant than the limited brazier locations.
I’m curious about the drop rate of it. I got a key from fully exploring the new map, used the key, and bam, there was a Scenic portal thing. I don’t usually have that kind of luck with BL chests (heck, I got maybe 2 or 3 keys out of 19 alts fully exploring Bloodstone Fen), so it does subjectively feel as if it must be super easy to get at least during this release window.
You missed the part where Taimi clarified that she wasn’t thinking about actually getting the dragons to fight one another, and instead thinking about using their magics against one another, right?
I don’t see how is that possible without letting them meet each other.
She did say something about involving Spencer (the chak organ). That could mean in some way siphoning off Jormag’s energy to toss cold ice on Primordus’ areas of control, and vice versa.
While it was annoying to have to repeatedly run back from the central waypoint each time I failed on the Abomination, I do agree that it doesn’t take too terribly long to get anywhere from it.
I do see a problem in that both wps can be contested at the same time (contested at all is bad, in fact, when there are only two options in the first place). I discovered this when I wanted to depart the svanir village and had to wade through mobs due to neither wp being available.
Ok, thanks! I used “apparently” with full intent there, I promise. I’m glad to find out why the dev statement came out as it did
I have been wondering, though this may be giving the story too much credit for depth, if maybe Mordremoth was able to tweak the minds of those who went up against him. Certainly all the fracturing and out-of-character’ing we’re seeing seems to have started after confronting Mordy in the mindscape. It could be his posthumous revenge. Taimi wasn’t in on that fight and she seems the most solidly herself.
Given the possibility this is what’s going on, I’m willing to cut Braham some slack even beyond the fact that nornish culture is about bravely charging into doom. A good mind-hack will be subtle enough not to shout “possession!” at others.
