Ah, I think I got that by going in with a friend. We took turns being the close-in dps while the other sniped enough to tag the boss while concentrating on evading and dodging everything it threw.

I don’t know if a bug is getting you or if you’re not realizing that one of the orange circles on the ground clipped you. Or maybe you’re kiting too far out of the fight platform, that has caused glitches in that fight.

Mostly I suggest you enlist help. Anyone should be able to join you, and they can bring an alt suited to face smashing the Facet so you’re free to dance the edges.

I can’t find that achievement name in the wiki. Which story chapter or other game location is it in? I can’t quite tell from your post what the achievement requirement is so i can’t remember what achieve it might apply to.

The newest patch has changed the fight. More time to hit special action, no Jade Bow, etc. This may cure a lot of the ills. It won’t fix the enclosed combat space, but should at least remove some of the split second timing needed.

I’ve only previewed them, and on a Reaper (in a gold petal dress) at that. Even if I’d screenshotted the preview it wouldn’t help you.

I have a tendency to get skins I like and hold onto them for a very long time until they suit an alt. The only reason I haven’t done so with the hammer is that my maxed bank is chock full of things I don’t want to ditch … I really hope one day ANet lets us convert unlocked skins into transmute charges, I’d get sooo much bank space. Same with a tonics panel a’la the finishers one.

But I’d suggest you preview them on a number of alts, maybe while at a bank wardrobe so you can play around with various armor looks to see what looks cool shape-wise with the Devoted skins, then decide if you have an alt that would wear that.

I agree. My only issue is with their tremendous size. I’d have preferred shrinking them down and maybe surrounding them with climbing roses or something to make it clear the flowers were there.

The hammer shall be mine, however. The proportions work well on it and the textures are fantastic on it as on all of the set.

I ate a lot of floor polish last night in there on my Daredevil even though I figured out the mechanics as soon as the initial NPC dialogue was done in the first minute. My friend had the same problem on her Druid, to the point she gave up. Today we went in together, on her Druid and my Reaper, and we wrecked Caudecus to little tiny bits, and his little mobs, too. I think she got briefly downed once, I never did.

Profession/build really does make a difference imo. I’m pretty sure if I’d tried to help her complete the story with my Daredevil we’d have been losing armor just like before.

If you mean in the final LS instance, the pattern is to figure out the riddle and go to the item that matches it. Two moves and you’re into the final chamber. I had to think a bit on the first one (helped that it was essentially multiple choice, all the objects showed up with helpful yellow labels so I looked for one that fit the inside-outside thing) and on the second one had to remind myself who had asked the question and pick -his- most likely answer.

What I didn’t like was how moustache-twirling Caudecus was. It seemed every step of the episode had to rub it in that he was the villain, as if we didn’t already know. I think it would have been a lot more interesting if he was just a rival politician with legitimate concerns, but the wrong way to carry them out. At this point, I’m wondering how he ever got the title “Caudecus the Wise.” It doesn’t even seem like the kind of thing he’d call himself.

Maybe he was wiser and better balanced before he started sniffing bloodstone?

And sorry, double post, here is a quick bit of feedback on something that actually did impact my enjoyment: At the end, going through the chambers, I followed Canach up to find the way in. That dumped me right by the desk, and examining that triggered the dialogues to finish up. All the other green star items I could have examined disappeared. Given the amusement of that mesmer and her, ah, partner, I imagine there may have been other fun tidbits in there.

I was very disappointed to lose the chance to see what the other items would have told me about the boss.

You can’t equip anything when you’re in combat

This is true. So in my many deaths, sometimes I waited for Anise to rez me, sometimes I rezzed at the checkpoint upstairs by the portal which took me out of combat, did some equipment fixing, then ported back in. It sucked when Caudecus had his bar broken and I was dead and had to leave and come back in to find him blue barred again

There’s also an achieve and/or mastery point for the first time you get to the room, at least judging by the achieves listed in the hero panel.

I tried a lot today but was stymied by the room of pillars and planks. I could see where I needed to get to but couldn’t quite spot the route that would let me reach it instead of bumping my chin on a landing spot and ending up with the ghosts below.

I still love the heck out of that crazy survivalist’s digs I’ll go back in with friends at some point.

I’ve had a lot of fun with the story and the new map. It’s really large and full of nooks and crannies, I have not finished it yet (I mean in exploration — achieves and viewing all the npc banter will take much longer). Part of that is due to my wanting to get the story under my belt to be spoiler proof. Anyway, the map detail is tremendous, back to the level of some of the original maps.

Story: some real zingers in there, tons of meat to chew on for RP spinoff tales (especially what the Queen told the Ministry). I’m a bit sad DR itself remains pristine, and maaaay allow as how there’s some internal city damage going on as well. Wish there were PR-duped civilians rioting in the streets, for instance.

Final fight: Room is too small for all that’s going on. I figured out the mechanics right away, but still lost all my armor at least twice despite having many blocks, dodges, and stealths (on squishy daredevil) before I focused down the jades and returned to pitching crystals at the boss. I got him down anything from 0% to 5% per death of mine. At least Anise was kind enough to rez me over and over, between stuns — it was easier to wait for the rez and keep track of the room’s action than to checkpoint and port back in to the mess.

Sorry, way over 50.

I thought the repped guild showed the posting person’s name in bright gold, and non-repped in dull gold, with the guild number at the start of each line? I don’t see any “grey” text, and I’m the vocal proponent of brightening up the horrid grey emote text so I am on record as sensitive to it.

I haven’t had any trouble telling which of my guilds is chatting, though admittedly of my set of guilds only two have regular chatter going.

That said, I fully support client customization of chat colors. We all have different hues that stand out to us or please us, and some are color blind, so this would be a major QoL for almost every player. (Plus it might let me finally get a better emotes color )

Fixing forum bug.

I’m sorry to post an off-topic reply, but I see this kind of post as the first post on page 2 of many threads and the curiosity is driving me nuts.

What’s the forum bug that everyone seems to reference with these posts that start a new page?

If you ever post the last comment on a page, when it reloads to show you your comment instead you get a weird double row of page numbers at the top and no visible posts. So you can post something else, randomly, just to shake the pages loose. It’s a tradition here!

Sadly I’ve received two tiny infractions for forum bug posts as nonconstructive derails. First appeal worked a while back (thus I mention it as I was Not Guilty), second very recent one is pending (I expect it also to prevail). Must have been a new mod who didn’t know about this issue. Yes, I just discussed moderation, but only to point out that the forum bug posts have merit, so others may be informed

Look at all this posting time we have thanks to the patch delay. Whee!

Question about future expansions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

ANet has directly said it will work that way. Previous game versions will be rolled into new expansions as a free addition for new purchasers. Which sparks a lot of “but I paid for this game once years ago so I shouldn’t ever have to pay for it again, I need a reduced cost version, I don’t want to pay for the core game again.” Even so, the expansion cost is the price with or without the core game included, and including the core game avoids price pointing new players out of the game.

Anyway, while they have only said it is their “plan” to follow that purchase model, it’s not only logical for them to stick to it, they likely couldn’t handle the flame blast they’d receive if they don’t follow through. If you’re willing to wait however many months or years it takes to get the next expansion before you get access to the HoT maps, and willing to deal with how people will flock to the new lands and leave HoT perhaps a bit harder to play, and willing to give up all those months (or years) of what the game offers to paid players, well, yes. You should indeed get Vanilla and HoT included in your expansion bundle.

Oh, it was plenty hectic at the start. I had to learn the rhythms and get ley gliding and settle on my Reaper as my HoT map alt before it got to the point of giving me a break like it does now. And when I say I manage inventory, I mean occasionally I have 30 free seconds to do a bit of that. If there’s any action on an island in my group, I go help. I also run to aid people knocked down by wyvern fire.

But after the long time zerging around the blighting tree pit, my hands can be pretty sore, my neck aching despite my ergonomic set up. And that in turn is after the long push to escort the Pact. Often I’m a north lane commander, so I have to pay extra attention and type information during all the action.

I really appreciate a breather that still offers plenty of things to do to help the map succeed.

If you have a lot of alts, shared inventory slots are fantastic. Not everything can go in them, but anything that can go in can then be used by any alt without having to swap via the bank.

More storage space in general is grand, both bank slots (account wide) and bag slots (per character).

Only you can decide if an outfit is worth the price. The plusses are that it gives you free infinite use, custom dyed per character, and covers up the random gear you get while leveling without burning transmutation charges. If you are deleting an alt (eg one made for a weekly key run), having an outfit on means the crowd at the bank doesn’t see you stripping down to your skivvies.

The minus is that the only part you can toggle off (except on Chef’s, which also allows shoulder and gloves) is the helmet, and you can’t swap helms to mix and match so outfits do reduce creative garment looks. Also the dyes are in a dictated set of 4 channels and if you have multiple outfits, it’s the same dye set on each until you change it.

Outfits give you no game mechanic advantage and certainly no profit unless people decide to pay you gold to pose in them for some reason (I have not heard of this happening, it’s just the only way I can imagine profiting on them). They just look cool.

Me, by the time I get to the islands, I appreciate a few quiet moments to clear inventory, chat with guildies, etc. Not that I afk a lot, I do bounce around my preferred trio of islands, help explain things in Map if new folks have questions, join the bombing run(s), and such like. But the decompression time between the constant motion of the blighting towers and the mad rush to mushrooms and noxious pods is valuable to me.

Also, I don’t feel bored. Even now that I know what’s going on and how to track where I need to be, to me the fight still feels big and epic. Not immersively dangerous, no, but still fun to participate in.

I’d like to continue with the tiger training, though overall I feel no need to complete the legendary. My goal has been to get the cubs. The training, though, is fairly mats intensive. So will making a tiger gym actually put a gym in place in the den? Will advancing the collection make it easier to put cubs on more alts and/or let me invite friends to my den? Or do I now have the last permanent thing before the shortbow itself?

The wiki is hard to navigate for C&C compared to the HOPE entries, so I hope one of you knows for sure the answers to the above. My thanks.

Am I doing this right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

If you’re having fun (without hurting the fun of others), you’re doing it right.

I think the first dungeon Story instance is level 30. Might be 35. Each dungeon has a Story path (which tells an ongoing tale of Destiny’s Edge as they go up in level) and several Explorable paths. The Explorables are the story of what happens in that dungeon right after the Story path is done, and any character you have that has done a Story can open the Explorable section of that dungeon. Or a member of your party can open it so you can join without having done Story. They stair-step up in level, so each 5 levels you get access to the next Story/Explorable of that Story in turn. The lowest level dungeon is Ascalon Catacombs in northern Plains of Ashford (Charr starter zone).

The Story paths are generally on the easier side, though you’ll still want a group. Just make sure when you advertise in LFG, if you are pugging, that you will be watching cinematics and not speed running. That way you can experience each path fully.

As to roles, the dungeons were designed to be doable by any mix of professions. Everyone brings something useful to the run; heals are mostly each player’s individual responsibility. Some dungeons do need the party spread out, eg one where four people stand in fire cages fighting off mobs while the fifth opens the next gate. Tanking isn’t a thing until you get into raids, just dps/support (buffs)/cc.

Those are good ideas. I recently needed that meta chain completed for a legendary collection and remembered all over again why when I do VB that is my least chosen chain to work on. The salvage collection has been a problem from the beginning of HoT, mentioned frequently on these forums, and I think ANet folks have even mentioned awareness of the issue.

Just moving the guy likely isn’t enough of a fix, though, as the spawn of the salvage is super slow. Sure you can kill the frogs if they pick up salvage before you can get ahead of them to scoop it up, but they are massively hard to kill even for several players working together given their toughness, high HP, and frequent stun ability.

This event needs some serious tuning.

I have level 80 characters but it seems I always miss in doing “Torn from the Sky”. Can you solo this? Or do you really need a group?

Thanks in advance!

Even if you die a lot you will eventually complete the instance (as long as you can kill the things you need to kill). Don’t stand in orange or red circles on the ground, focus on the big boss even when there are little mobs around, and follow the green stars to know where to go next.

If all else fails, you can invite someone else along to help you. I’m willing, if you’re on the NA server.

Once you complete Torn From the Sky, you will have masteries unlocked. Make sure you a) select gliding to train, b) do stuff in the HoT maps to get the xp needed, and c) when your xp bar fills up go into the mastery panel and click on the right side of the first gliding line to spend your mastery point on gliding.

I mean, you could train something other than gliding first, but it would be unwise

I am sorry I don’t have a wall of text in me right now to give on the races, especially as what will feel easy and natural to you is highly subjective. I’ll just suggest avoiding Norn and Charr at first, since they feel slower and more awkward for running and doing JPs.

For profession, warrior and guardian offer the simplest initial play, and necromancer is one of the sturdier ones. Engie, Ele, and Mesmer may be more complex than you want to deal with before you get gameplay into muscle memory.

Core Tyria Mastery Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I assume this has been asked multiple times before? sounds like a prety good qol system.

Build (and gear) templates with on the fly swapping have been requested for years. People had high hopes they would come with HoT only to have the devs say “we know this is a really good idea but it’s not part of the expansion.”

The devs know we want it, they acknowledge it’s a good idea, so we can only hope they are finding a way to implement it and will give it to us some day.

I agree that it should be a base game change, though as someone that stays current with all the content as it is released it would not personally affect me to have it only with paid content. It’s just too fundamental a game system to withhold from a sizable hunk of players. More players = more life in the game, more possible friends, more future customers who love playing but want to go up to the cool things like gliding. Too many pay walls can drive those players away.
