How do you get so many Gauntlet Chances?
Isn’t it one per boss kill in QG, or is there a place that rewards them I’ve not picked up on?
People translate 1 Ticket to 1 Chance by repeatedly killing Halmi?
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
You should have tried Liadri last year; then with awkward camera angle and hard to see AoE markers. That was intense!
This year was a breeze in comparison!
Last year took 70+ tickets, this year 15… mostly to remember the patterns of how everything goes. Shadowfall is predictable both which quadrant gets hit (phase 1) and then the hourglass (phase 2), her Visions of Mortality always spawn same places, and when she becomes vulnerable it’s just plain mechanics to burn her down. The Orb I agree is probably the only random bs factor in the fight, but if you see it spawning, get ready with some stability until you can get rid of it so it doesn’t catch you off guard.
The speed with which you level and replace your current stat gear when you’re levelling from lvl 1 to 80 means you’ll have to transmute skins on to your next, higher-level stat gear over and over just to keep the looks you’ve initially transmuted.
It would counter Anet’s wish to make money from the gemstore, but ideally you should be allowed to transmute skins for free up to level 80 (or perhaps level 70?) since you’re replacing your stat gear all the time too and the time you get to enjoy your new looks is rather short compared to when you’re at level 80.
When you’re 80, you equip your exotics and get your skins sorted, and you won’t be facing any gear upgrades any time soon. Maybe you get ascended armor lucky drop or craft it, but it’s still a lengthy process and at this point it should charge you transmutations.
Thanks, yea, I had a read on the wiki and it seems like it’s a general infusion recipe for all ascended backpieces. So that means farming more ectos
Equip hammer and shield for KBs on Chomper when meat spawns so you can knock him off course. Immobilize doesn’t work if I recall correctly, so no point in scepter.
Running sword+shield you can flashing blade over to him and then bounce him off perhaps?
I don’t remember atm how I got him last year, but it was something like this.
So, are you better off selling your stock of unid dyes now or hang on to them? Or use them in hopes of getting expensive rare ones?
Has anyone infused their Light of Dwayna yet?
With FotFW update that hit on Tuesday, LoD and Shadow of Grenth became possible to acquire as infused versions… just wondering what mats they require.
Omw to crafting Light of Dwayna myself, but kitten , it’s so expensive in terms of cloth materials… 600 linen scraps, 4500 silk scraps!! Wow!
Serves no purpose but to stain the game’s reputation which many of us really enjoy, and these updates are probably 2 of the best from last year.

However, the ifhgt is even worse than before. It still has the same mechanics and the same idiotic AoE circles on the floor which are just as difficult to see, the idiotic camera angle making it tough to actually see anything. But now we have to put up with the adds in phase one appearing in one place, yet they explode and kill you when they are nowhere near you. We also add to the list the bolts that Liadri throws out hitting you even though they are again nowhere near.
Time to debunk some false truths here…
- adds pop everywhere in map in timed fashion and at always the same places. if you died, most likely you got caught by one spawning where you stood
– idiotic camera angle is fixed, the dome is gone and replaced by a low fence that lets you zoom out and move around quite freely
– AoE circles on the ground use the new AoE target decals they introduced for Marionette event – never before been easier to spot Liadri’s Shadowfall spell
– Liadri’s bolts are slow-moving and you block/reflect or simply just take two steps to a side, then the other to sidestep slalom your way between them
Liadri was not a tough challenge this year, but the 8-orbs one requires more concentration and is still quite challenging simply due to prolonged duration of the duel and it being easier to make a personal mistake.
(not being serious now)
Seeing as Anet gets so much rage today over taking away stuff people like in the game, let’s see if Season 2 starts with Mordremoth taking a sweep and wiping out the Zephyrites’ airships which means we’ll never return to Labyrinthine Cliffs again… ;P
As for other farming rewards being gone; enjoy the Queen’s Gauntlet for what it is… challenging content.
Well… the QG Chance item you get as reward for boss kill has a rare chance of dropping recipe for Chaos of Lyssa… that’s probably going to make you some gold if it drops
Wow… people are moaning so much. Labyrinthine Cliffs and Queen’s Gauntlet are back with this update, rejoice!
As for Queensdale champ train being derailed – good riddance, and with another hotfix from Anet they could probably add a little better loot from the Pavilion and everyone will be happy again.
But, as OP asks… are we going to see the FotFW for 2 or 4 weeks?
One thing… why am I the Blazing Light for killing Liadri. Suriel was the Blazing Light. Shouldn’t I be The Concealing Dark too for snubbing out Suriel previously then following this logic?
The fight was definitely not complete randomness last year. Everything moved in a cycle, I know because I memorised it and killed her on my 70th or so attempt… (actually I lost count, but I think it was around 70 tries, at least it felt that long)
Towards end of this festival we’d be getting some clues, they said in interviews.
Evidence, Mike Zadorojny in Massively interview:
“Don’t worry; by the end of the festival, you’ll hear more about Season 2.”
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
So… this isn’t a “goodbye” thread even, this is a player who has quit a while back who now returns only to say he’s quitting again, or rather, not starting again…
Pfffftttt… countdown to thread lock.
They might as well make Liadri mini a rare one this time, due to QG improvements she’s not that difficult anymore.
lol so this is the “something very valuable” they were talking about
well, it’s valuable compared to the small hooves and broken lockpicks that were the only thing dropping in the Pavilion last night :P
i’ll hold on to mine, at least some day I can put 500 of them towards an ascended backpiece…
Here’s how Dulfy killed Liadri last year, should help you get her quite easily this time around.
Yep, dome has no roof now only a low fence, so camera is no issue at all. Plus new AoE markers on ground makes it very easy to see all her Shadowfall skills.
Liadri should be easy for many this time around; there goes the exclusivity of my mini… :/
That would be awesome
Yea, why would you!
Seriously, in before the thread gets locked…
Yes, it was very noticeable change in tone when Ellen Kiel spoke to Master of Peace. She even pointed at me before she spoke to the rest of “Destiny’s Child”
Nice to be acknowledged as leader seeing as my character is the one who’s always done the major part of the work.
Good move, Anet!
Kekai did this concept art of heavy armor and I just wanted to know if it’s in game – or alternatively this is a request to Anet to please, please, make it
It’s got too much cloth in it for it to be the Avenger (Human T2) armor, right? Actually, could even seem like light armor the way it looks… it’s got the Human T3 Heavy boots, but the shoulders look like a mantle and that winged helm is just too awesome.
http://www.kekaiart.com/uploads/5/4/7/6/5476798/5291218_orig.jpg
Awesome concept artwork anyway!
Sorry if its the wrong subforum, didn’t know quite where this would fit in.
A few thoughts;
- I like the new mechanics of the Boss Blitz and how they’re trying to make it more like the Marionette event. The full blob must split and some coordination will be helpful in order to not scale bosses out of hand and also kill order might impact what “buffs” the next area bosses get. Good move from the mindless zerg kills previous round.
- Lack of bag drops from mobs and no chest from bosses. No no no. I’ll just dub it the Ghost Pavilion already; once people get their achievements done no one will run here. At least the people fighting in the Queen’s Gauntlet won’t suffer any lag…
- Queen’s Gauntlet take-aways:
* Very nice addition of the Medic
* Sorry to see the camera angle “fixed” – all encounters are now much easier seeing as you don’t get that claustrophobic close-up that people both cursed and embraced.
A Liadri kill this time around is like a mouse fart compared to last year.
There will be so many who get Liadri this time since they nerfed her and the Queen’s Gauntlet in general.
Spent upwards of 70 tickets on Liadri alone last year, this time she was beaten after 15-20 tries; mostly down to me remembering what I did.
Gone is the challenging camera angle, and her Shadowfall is very easy to spot now that AoEs have those bright red markers on the ground.
Last time, after all those attempts and finally getting her I wrote a little ode to her; this time it was simply a tip of the hat… so long, my lady!
Or actually… time to get cracking on the 8-orb kill!
The Tide is turning on the pirates! Come plunder their loot with us
The war is already won, it’s a bit late turning up a week too late and think the tide is turning. If SFR were out in full force, you’d know it.
Clearly I’m not everyone.
I thought she was a great challenge, yes, I cursed over my own failed attempts, but I was so happy when I finally beat her.
^^ What A Massive Headache said.
Any boss/challenge takes real practice, and for a solo effort, Liadri was terrific in demand of skill (and perhaps a tiny bit of luck if you slipped up on skill). The camera angle was just another factor of difficulty, I never minded that on any of the QG bosses, it was just another challenge to overcome.
The problem is, you have selective reading. “The dwarves are a !!!near!!!-extinct race of short, stout humanoids made of stone.” this is an entirely accurate statement. Every single dwarf is made of stone now, even the women and even the stone summit; Ogden is stone as well.
Not to mention, it’d be pretty weird to play as a near extinct race. to see at least half a million players with a dwarf character, kind of wouldn’t make sense.
That last statement is also my top argument why Largos shouldn’t become a playable race either. A seclusive race that few have ever seen, up until they become playable and suddenly you have half a million Largos running all over Tyria.
Dwarves are dead, Largos are few (you’d expect) and shunning contact with land-dwellers. Both would require a ludicrous amount of retconning to make them playable.
My 2 pence are on either Tengu or Kodan or something new Anet come up with depending on where an expansion introducing a new playable race takes us.
Hahaha, THAT would be awesome
/20 stacks
Well Liadri is the Concealing Dark… this coming Gauntlet they put in Suriel the Blazing Light…
Umm.. they haven’t put her in, she’s a tier 1 or 2 boss in the Queen’s Gauntlet. Liadri was the end boss of tier 3. You beat Suriel quite early on, also a nice fight
And yes, signed on OP’s request for more bosses like Liadri. She was a menace and real challenge, but I got her in the end
The Zephyrites arrived in airships, airships were a major vessel of LS1 in terms of how LA got invaded and overrun and ultimately destroyed. Remember the absolute first teaser for GW2 from back in 2009?
Let’s have it, I want LA rebuilt in spirit of Labyrinthine Cliffs, with a fleet of docked airships forming the houses. Honestly, you’d also think the Captain’s Council would opt for such a way of rebuilding because LA has now been levelled with the ground 3(2?) times and having it made up of airships means the residents would have easier means of escape if someone were to launch a new invasion. They could just get onboard their ships and fly out in any directions (but the Dominion of Winds).
Oh, and here’s the trailer I’m using for imagining the next Lion’s Arch!
Matches don’t start without 10 people present in Solo que would be excellent.
Matches don’t start without 10 people present in Team Que would be awful.Fight the matches you can win, Dodge the ones you can’t, Top 100 NA all day.
No rewards for Matches Forfeited for either side.
Accounts should be flagged as deserter instantly if they are not logged in. 1 day ban.
Implement Better Rank decay; 20 slots on 2nd day not played. Deserters auto-eat the rank decay and won’t be able to stay on top of the leaderboards. Also this assumes leaderboards will actually be meaningful at some point in time.
This would really hurt me the most, as I have dc’d pregame 1000 times now.
Do you even begin to realise how many matches will be forfeited with this? Fight the matches you can win, dodge the others… someone decides they don’t like a match which actually starts up 5v5 and can sabotage it and everyone else forfeits… Maybe I just read your suggestion wrongly.
But I agree with your points on rank decay.
Why you double teaming with bb again? Any reason for it?
It’s all in your head, truth is we’re not, but logically what you’re seeing is SFR defending our lead while BB probably want to catch up and be placed 2nd (I’d assume).
If you really want to know, we were focusing BB the past days when they were 2nd.
As much as I’d love for it too, Festival of the Four Winds just isn’t going to announce Cantha. That’d have to be due to China launch, Anet also announce a Cantha expansion for 2015, but by the sound of things, FotFW will maybe announce the start of Living Story Season 2 – and our eyes will most likely be directed to Maguuma then.
After many hours spent mapping, many lucky guesses, many bad guesses, ups/downs, the good and the bad, the many many many wvw kills hoping for the next pre to drop.
Gratz on your achievement, really!
But this statement also shows what’s wrong with the game… you were playing hoping for the “next pre to drop” and I assume you’ve probably had 5-10 drop for you.
Others have had none or at most 1 pre drop and are basically still trying to craft their first legendary.
In this game (and Elder Scrolls) they are dead or “buried”. Move along.
If intentional in-game AFK could be detected and penalised with a Dishonorable (or kitten) debuff, that would probably counter a few situations where you would otherwise end up with 4v5.
How would you suggest expanding AFK detection
It involves getting in touch with the NSA.
Seriously though, if you have a match where one team is suddenly 4v5 due to one person being AFK, you’re pretty much screwed. Yes, you can manage an unlikely win, but any kind of AFK detection will require giving that 5th player a little window of time to be judged within, and then if he/she gets kicked you’ll need to rush another in, so at the very least 1 minute passes at best, but more probably 2-3 minutes… if the teams were balanced, the team with 4 have likely lost the game by then.
Or do you disagree?
(this is ofc in situations with a balanced 5v5 where loss of an AFKer puts one team at disadvantage. If you got a skewed 5v5 where 4v5 still manage to hold, that’s an exception)
That would be great, Sea pf Sorrows was a good book, not the best among the 3 GW books, but good nonetheless.
Did we read the same 3 books? Sea of Sorrows was the only of those 3 books that raised the bar and was a decent read. OK, Ghost of Ascalon is decent too, but Edge of Destiny… oh man, it was nearly Living Story in book form :P
On a serious note, if Ree was not involved with story writing for Season 1, then having her onboard for Season 2 is both a necessity and great news if Anet are serious about having Living Story succeed.
You got them during Dragon Bash last year, predictions are that festival will be returning in a few weeks, so just hold on to your fortune scraps and maybe you’ll get those last ones you need then. Good things come to those who wait… (I hope!)
Work. Work. Work. Work. Work. China. Work. Work. Work.
No time to discuss, but I still read near every thread.
I really appreciate the work you guys are doing but, if you guys read almost every thread, is it so time consuming to write a couple of words in one thread or two that you wont even bother doing it?
We certainly could be better about mentioning we’ve read a thread. Some people have suggested a red ‘seen by dev’ mark on threads which would awesome. If I were to post something every time I skim through a thread, it would mostly likely just be copy-paste “I’m reading this thread” or “I’m following this thread” which may cause more anger (due to lack of thoughtful response) than appreciation. Community team members are really helpful when relaying information back and forth between devs and players. ( Like Allie :’( )
There’s a +1 button for everyone liking a post.
How about you guys implement a dev-only button to mark as a sort of “follow/favourite”. Both to help you keep a list of valuable input in posts from members of the community, but it can also be displayed back to us on the forum in form of a list of dev names that are following or have acknowledged the topic of a particular thread.
2148 replies can’t be wrong.
Give us Cantha!
But yes, Shockwave, would be awesome to see Echovald Forest again, or even the Jade Sea… think, could it return to liquid form, or would it still be frozen still… maybe return to its normal form as a monumental transformation that occurs in the PS-part of a return to Cantha…
Join a Solo / Team Queue game, grouped up with three Light professions against a sensible composition. Announce Home bunker, 3 other team members run with you and stand on Home to get the “capture credit” for their personal score. After that, they spend the rest of the match collectively chasing a Thief in circles around the map.
Your Ranger eventually breaks off by himself to play with their Bunker Guardian on Mid for 5-6 minutes, which concludes any offensive action against actual capture points ever undertaken by your team, and then the game ends 500-90 with plentiful “GG EZ EZ” proclamations from the winning team.
Haha, good to see I’m not alone getting caught in terrible matches! xD Thanks for giving me a laugh to start my day!
Yep, my favourite map too.
It’s not just normal cap’n’win but you need to pay attention to buffs to score extra points either from kills, caps and ofc the insta-tri-cap of tranquility means you have to pay attention.
Great map, right up there along with Legacy of the Foefire for it’s “rush” technique to turn a game if you’re trailing but still can turn it if you come back and kill the lord.
You should be happy there’s a China client which gathers more interest for GW2 worldwide and subsequently more money back into Anet’s pockets. I would guess, at least
Wishlist for season 2:
This should be snuck in as a ninja update in an upcoming patch, if I were Anet I would be embarassed to acknowledge fixing this design slight…
mega server is only ok if you pretend all other players are NPC’c- very vocal NPC’s
people don’t even res any more
they will run over your corpse because why not? it is not like they are ever going to see you againseriously, give us our communities back- we made them- it took two years.
you took it away in one patch.
That’s just not true, it’s generalisation over a few incidents. I’ve been ressed at several boss attempts (those elite shades at Behe can hit hard when you run around doing portals compared to the main zerg just remaining behind to bash at Behe). Anyhow, people ress, and those who don’t aren’t a result of megaserver being introduced, they’re just egoistic kittens (pardon the expression).
I agree, mega servers need work to ensure communities better can join up (whether we’re talking guild, group of guilds or players from same world), but despite this page reaching 40 pages, I’ve seen a lot of positive comments in-game.
I seriously hope the megaservers are introduced so as to overcome Anet’s previous concern that adding new zones would spread the player base too thinly, while now you group people up and don’t have that problem and this caters for adding more zones / expansions to the game. And give the megaservers a chance to be further honed and tweaked in upcoming weeks/patches, they’ve only been around 3 weeks and people complaining over Triple Trouble not being possible to do anymore must be doing something wrong. TxS still do it on a regular basis.
