Seafarer’s Rest | Northerner @ Dragon Season
Don’t you guys see?
Eir will try to make up with Braham to ease the tension between mother and son, and will do so by giving him Magdaer since Logan has made up with Rytlock. Magdear, being a Flaming Dragon Sword, forged from Orr before the Exodus of the Gods, will have the power to break the tooth. Thus, Braham will be hailed as the norn hero – son of the legendary Bjorne the Sun-Chaser and Eir Stegalkin of Destiny’s Edge, and ally to the Dragonslayer (the player). He will lead the Wolfborn who’ve been secretly trained by Knut (per NPC dialogue) as a special unit within the Pact and will be there with his allies and Destiny’s Edge to slay the dragon of ice and snow.

Perfect, you just forgot the part where Trahearne shows up at the end and stabs Jormag with Caladbolg and gets all the glory.
Is it possible that the conclusion that the Shadow of the Dragon is a representation of Zhaitan simply be a flawed conclusion from NPC PoV?
Completely so, but unlikely that the Pale Tree would make such a blunder, or the PC wouldn’t mention s/he felt his/her Wyld Hunt wasn’t complete to Caithe at the end of the PS.
Yes, makes sense with 2nd argument concerning PC feeling its Wyld Hunt is done, but as for the Pale Tree making a blunder of such proportions, that could be seen as a result of being “blinded” by Mordremoth’s corruption – that the true nature of the Shadow of the Dragon wasn’t revealed. It was faked to take the guise of Zhaitan although Mordremoth was behind it?
But yes, I agree it seems most likely to be Zhaitan and not going to change as result of further story development due to both of these arguments.
We simply do not know what Mordremoth’s minions look like – despite your constant belief that we do.
And it isn’t like they don’t make new models for the Living World content, right? :p
I seriously hope they will continue to do this, we need more variation in the mob bestiary
Gotta love Consuela xD
Braham’s a good and likely tip if it’s not going to be us. Or maybe the Hoelbrak cleaning lady chips it with her broom in the wee after hours when everyone else has gone away and she’s shutting down shop for the evening.
I think the cashshop content doesn’t require a huge number of resources from Anet, so that’s just bull and ignorance believing their developers are all focusing on cashshop content over playable content. They can churn out small additions to cashshop with little effort and it’s a “quick win” to keep it updated all the time, whereas new playable content requires a lot more development.
I bet part of LS2 development also comes with mechanism to replay stuff or make it more permanent for later experience. They’ve had so much negative criticism about the temporality of LS1 and how it was nice for 2 weeks but then content – good as bad – was gone and not possible to play again. Imagine if we still had everything from LS1 in-game to play at our leisure, I wouldn’t be sad about last year then. Now, what’s left of e.g. the Aetherblade’s Retreat are two fractals, one nice encounter and the other bloody one with Mai Trin that I just always seem to get. In truth, I’ve not seen the Jade Maw boss fractal since that update; it’s always been either Mai Trin or Molten Champions… anyhow, enough about that.
I doubt we’ll see a patch this month, with China release and development of LS2, Anet seem set on letting PvP reward tracks and WvW tournament run its course until end of May, so my guess is Dragon Bash in June to set things off. Luckily, May has a lot of national holidays and RL stuff going on, because PvE-wise this game is on the back burner right now…
Tiny question on upcoming LS season and predictions here. With Mordremoth and obviously some sort of elder dragon corruption tied in with the story in Maguuma Jungle now, I was a bit curious when I came across some concept art done by Kekai Kotaki.
There’s a series of artworks dubbed ‘Evil Sylvari’ and maybe they’re just what became Nightmare Court because at that point of drawing the artists maybe just imagined Nightmare Court as evil version of the Sylvari. However, they don’t look so much like any of the incarnations we’ve seen of the Nightmare Court so far – maybe with the exception of some of the Toxic Alliance.
Here’s the concept art:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Evil_sylvari_concept_art_2.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Evil_sylvari_concept_art_3.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Evil_sylvari_concept_art_4.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Evil_sylvari_concept_art_5.jpg
Plus an evil forest plant mob:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Evil_plant_enemy_concept_art_2.jpg
These evil Sylvari distinguish themselves quite a lot from the Nightmare Court sylvari who are less “viny” and less thwarted/transformed, which could seem a bit like the corruption of an elder forest/jungle dragon like Mordremoth’s work.
Could we be seeing a new sylvari enemy and derivates of them like those husks/beasts in the upcoming season of Living World. That would be really interesting, I think.
Many players will find this topic uneccesary, irrelevant, or a threat to your income because you make a ton selling precursors you are lucky enough to forge but I don’t care. I have been playing GW2 since early access (I was in beta too, but that doesn’t count) and I have forged 1000s of weapons, done countless dungeons, WvW, and events without a single precursor drop.
I feel like my account has a hex on it, some quirk in the coding that prevents nice things from being added to my loot table and I’m tired of it. It’s time to end the nonsensical RNG where legendary precursors are concerned.
I quote this so I don’t have to write exactly the same. Anet, please sort out this kitten RNG system for those who don’t have Fortuna smiling on them. Actually, given all that god kitten ed effort put in, Fortuna should and would have smiled on us ages ago. Anet RNG mechanism doesn’t though and might actually be dubbed the Devil.
I played GW1 and loved it, I play GW2 and love it.
But I really wish I had this build template management system, both to easily link and share builds but also to make it easier for myself to swap different styles in the various game modes.
I’m starving for new information on what’s coming up in Guild Wars 2 for us in NA/EU. Yes, I can understand Anet might be ducking into the trenches and going silent on the home stretch before China release, but we’ve had the feature patch drop in NA/EU back in mid-april and since then there’s only the continuation of WvW Spring Tournament and ToL tournament for those team arena teams.
I know they’ve said to take a break from their fortnightly schedule of releases, but that Tuesday was anyway a couple of days ago. What are we to do in the coming weeks? Months?
When are we likely to hear an official statement on that Korean NCSoft report about an expansion in the works for 2015?
When do we get more details and blog posts about upcoming PvE content for 2014?
I assume Anet are working hard to bring us new stuff, but them being silent about it is such an abrupt change from what we’ve been used to throughout the entire LS1 frequency of updates and it’s creating the illusion of nothing is happening. While I’m not afraid ESO, WS or such will draw many players away, those games have the novelty effect going for them, and without even news of such stuff coming to GW2, that’s my main cause of concern for this game.
I’m not going anywhere, GW2 is just too great, but I am concerned when the updates are mostly on stuff that’s just running anyway.
And I do hope some content update hits the servers before end of WvW Spring Tournament… to go the whole month of May without any more updates (and please, don’t let that be SAB) would really try my patience… well, at least if there isn’t an announcement of greater things to come in June.
Guild Wars 2: The Canthan Resurgence
- New personal story to lead characters into Cantha again, and the surfacing of DSD. Actually, seeing Shiro return so many times before, he’s a beloved arch enemy, so why not have his legacy appear in some form…
- FP1’s system of trait unlocks developed further to open up for skill/trait unlocks to a wide array of such for all classes across the new region
- Wardens of Arborstone become a playable race. Humanoid and previously hell-bent on protecting the forest while under Shiro’s influence, these are now more civilised now that 250 years passed and Shiro’s shadow has restored their senses.
- Opens the continent of Cantha – Kaineng and surrounding lands with an unstable Luxon-Kurzick alliance that needs hero to keep from breaking
- Challenge missions added for solo and groups to do time trials on a weekly, ranked ladder. Winner each week granted some substantial reward plus some in-game recognition on a hall of fame plaque or such…
Yes, please give us this vendor asap.
/10 stacks
I’m more happy with a bunker guardian who held on to close and scores 10 pts rather than the other one who did and scored more but left close unguarded to free cap…
That’s the good thing about rank points now being evenly awarded to entire team.
I can’t say I’m feeling very kindly towards Tengu after the LA evacuation, or at least the Tengu near the wall. Jerks.
And I don’t blame the Tengu for their resentment of humans, they fled behind those walls because humans (albeit in Cantha) threatened their (and other non-humans) existence. So when anyone got close to the wall under the battle of Lion’s Arch, they were met with arrows, us the “good ones” as well as the Alliance forces of Scarlet Briar. They simply want to remain undisturbed – at least until Anet make a story that let us do more than meet their few trading emissaries.

Hi,
I just received this e-mail today about an impending 72 hour ban due to currency transactions or abnormal login – neither of which I can understand. It is true I recently made a tiny gold donation (as do all other TxS members) to my guild commander to purchase required foods etc for our guild raids of the Three-Headed Wurm and Tequatl, but that exchange can hardly be called abnormal.
In any event, I did not click any links in this e-mail – because I find it suspicious and also the wording of the e-mail subject doesn’t sound like something Arena.Net would write… “Guild Wars Account Be Shut Down Inform” … surely their grasp of English language is better
Anyhow – I just logged in and cannot see anything unusual about my account – so I just wanted to post this topic to alert others to perhaps receiving the same scamming e-mail and that they should avoid clicking any links in those e-mails and rather login directly to the game/forum.
Hope it helps others
The 2 Lionguards inside the bank house at the trading forum actually kick you away if you walk to close… how’s that for a welcome for the Saviour of Lion’s Arch…
Enough with the quaggans already, they’re a bad stain on Tyria and all too cutesy in #gw2 for a proper dark setting to unfold… Just too much…
1. Warrior
2. Thief
3. Ranger
1 and 2 should be nerfed to the ground and never be allowed to become so OP (w.g. easily made OP by anyone), while Rangers desperately need some TLC to get on par with the rest. That should put most classes back towards the center/middle…?
Precursors are really rare, but kitten ed be that RNG when I have a guildie who has had 9 precursors drop and others see kitten with over 3k hours played. Hell yeah, I want craftable precursors to end this RNG nonsense that is somehow coded so badly it’s horribly skewed…
On the other hand you could’ve purchased 3409 venoms right now, had you spent every single hour working at $10.00USD( All before taxes)
And here I was believing that by playing the game – after purchasing it – I should have a good chance at acquiring the precursor, and not have to give in to purchase it from other lucky sod who either invested in the TP or had a lucky RNG roll.
I’m not the one with 3k hours btw; look above or below me in this and many other threads for those people, but still that monetary example doesn’t work out anyhow. I work full-time and have my fixed salary, I don’t need or want to spend 30000 USD on the TP for a game item. It’s a game; I should get it by gaming!
Actually, I don’t necessarily miss the Wings of the Sunless, but I’d kill for crystalline Wings of the Branded or something like that. Purplish, crystalline wings to go well on a mesmer
Or forget about all the purple and let me change the purple hue on my mesmer to another colour! (ed. although that’s an entirely different topic!)
Plus they drop their fair amount of trash/junk loot trophies that could be put to good use. You got 50 needles/fins/broken picks/etc., you get a Gift of the New Traveler.
Maybe a future Wintersday could introduce a new character traveling with another dolyak to take up the reigns… Sort of like a wintersday “advent calendar” to follow that person around… Don’t need the same ol’ Tixx for the nth time anyway, would much rather have a nice story.
Just forget the elements even, make more stuff lime heavy Phalanx armor and the likes, only acquirable in-game for once.
I want Ebon vanguard armor from gw1, kurzick/luxon types, etc. More armor/weapon merchants like the dungeon ones.
And yeah, I lovey cobalt and jormag’s breath so please more ice than fire, but maybe other “elements” too; smoke, lightning, natural stuff.

It was reward for Boss Week achievement category; I know so well because I missed getting mine because I miscalculated when the final Boss Week daily would be, and there wasn’t one on the patch day for next update.
So far completed all other achievement categories, bubble burst.. oh well, playing more relaxed now.
Take your lvl 80 to any of the zones up to lvl 40-50; run up to a probe and get the cores. If it’s guarded, kill the mobs first. An 80 shouldn’t have problems with the defenders when down-scaled.
Oh man, I hope you screenshotted it and reported him for scamming.
Sadly people always find a way to amaze me how lowly they can act :/
Don’t we have a sprocket generator node in the home instance now, so is the 20% chance to mine sprockets from ore node really the only source? Can’t say I’m overly fussed over this item…
Depending on your timezone, the jungle wurm spawns on the hour and the marionette on the next hour.
For GMT, it’s on even hour for Marionette and odd hours for Jungle Wurm. If you’re there half an hour before the event you’ll see things starting to warm up, people streaming in, etc.
Oh, but I agree with your thoughts, the story content is a bit thin and requires you to learn the spawning pattern initially and “wait around” so you can progress the story. It’s obvious how, just not doable at your own whim.
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
Never managed to get in on my home server for either Marionette or Jungle Wurm so far, beaten Marionette several times in overflow
Because the player base is a diverse lot, ANY amount of tension will frustrate SOME amount, causing them to be turned off. So fundamentally we have to ask ourselves if we want to ever ask the player to stretch, or keep them all in a happy abnegated state of chillaxing. Does the benefit to those who want some tension from time to time outweigh the frustration of those who don’t?
The other question that I hope is answered in the positive is this: Can the average player skill be raised by challenging content like this? We know that X% of players don’t know about traits. We know Y% never swap out their 7-0 skills to accommodate specific challenges. And there are probably dozens of other systems that go unused by some portion of the player-base. If even 10% of that group hits a challenge like the Marionette and the subsequent tension causes them to look into these systems and they learn a new depth to the game they otherwise never would have, I think that’s a win for everybody. The average skill level rises, and in turn, we devs can make more interesting events that utilize the depth of the systems we have.
Having said all that, if after a week the Marionette is still only being beaten 1 out of 10 times, then I would say we may have tuned it a bit too difficult. On the other hand, we don’t know how long it takes for the aggregate skill level of the player-base to grow. I don’t know how long it takes for information about traits and builds to disseminate to those who had previously never looked into them. As with all our content, we are closely watching and noting these things so that every future project can learn from it.
P.S. Because several people brought up the idea of buffing the other platforms when one succeeds, I thought I ought to let you all know that this has always been the case. When one platform’s power regulator is destroyed the players on the platforms adjacent get Electrify Aura which gives 60 seconds of protection, swiftness, regeneration, fury, might, vigor and retaliation.
A resounding yes! Please keep making content that makes the player have/want to stretch in order to overcome new challenges. This is fun!
I’d say the Marionette is pretty close to perfect in difficulty, first week only a few did it and now that more and more people know how to do it, you get more and more successful events in pugs in overflows – provided of course people bother to coordinate in map chat, etc. If people don’t bother, it’s not the event’s fault.
Just out of curiosity, do you guys (Anet) have figures of s of how many out of the player base actually defeated Liadri back during Queen’s Gauntlet, and could you also keep us updated and let us know after this LS update is done, how large a percentage of the player base defeated the marionette?
You say you tune events on the basis of this, but it’d be interesting to those of us who managed, just how difficult it was to overcome. I’d feel pretty good about myself if only 10 took out a boss, compared to a world boss that 99% (and their grand mothers) can do.
Like I posted in a similar thread, been having fun trying to coordinate some of the overflows I’ve done this in and either we’ve succeeded or come very close.
Mostly we’ve failed due to:
- lack of skill to take down a warden and you cannot fault that
- lack of knowledge to take down a warden → BAD at this point in a 2-week event and we’re halfway thru. You should know by now + I always type out every warden’s strat up front and it’s quite straight-forward really
- lack of interest of taking part → being countered with “i’m here just to have fun not work” or players without map chat enabled at world boss events… here I am busting my kitten off trying to coordinate it through map chat which is all you got since voice comms on a open world pug is not possible, and people either
Bottom-line though, it’s a massive pug event, bound to fail and as long as people put in a real effort and the failure comes from bad luck, it’s fun. Ignorance though gets me a bit more heated!
And most importantly, when you don’t have a full overflow, people not getting that lanes 4 and 5 only need 15ish people to defend their lane and then getting support/reinforcements from lanes 1 and 2.
That’s why you get the 25-25-25-15-15 distribution and a more difficult event to coordinate because you get a rotation scheme to manage as well to constantly “right-shift” your people.
25-25-25-15-15
15-25-25-25-15
15-15-25-25-25
25-15-15-25-25
25-25-15-15-25
If you’ve still not done it by then, you’ve failed the event xD
In my opinion; lanes 1,3 and 5 have the easiest Wardens, so you should aim to have 25 people and 5 people at each pad for Warden II and IV.
It’s ALWAYS these two wardens I see getting passed down.
II – the targeted person doesn’t understand that he must kite the warden back on its own bombs to stun it
IV – shriek and darkness AoE gets people down and if you’re too few, you’re soon fighting with 2-3 downed teammates
I,III and V are tank’n’spank with variations (well, II and IV as well but they have elements that people seem to fail regularly to observe!)
Are you sure those 4 arrows pointing in towards the 4 X’s on the map aren’t just her battle plans? Those are the 4 ways she’ll bring in her armies (by airships?!) to attack LA and the 3 faction HQs simultaneously?
Maybe it’s over-complicating things considering that diagram as more than just a battle plan? What’s the target, and where will she attack from…
THEN – when she has cut off LA as a hub and the faction HQs from intervening, she’ll bring out her gigantic drill and get to next part of her plan?
I think you are definitely on the ball that Scarlet will attack Lion’s Arch and the 3 headquartes of the Vigil, Order of Whispers and Durmand Priory.
This video (the one linked above) shows those 4 red marks directly on top of those locations.
With them momentarily incapacitated, she will do something with that huge drill – whether she’s going for Primordius or Mordremoth.
It’s odd that she won’t do anything to Fort Trinity though, unless that has something to do with timing of PS and LS.
We will be going to the Deldrimor Fronts to stop Scarlet from using her giant drill (the thing above the Marionette) to create a way for Primordius to get the surface
Uh uh, not me, I want that sucker to come out, I’m dying to see another elder dragon surface!
There’s no point staying in the lane when your lane is up for entering through the portals; you should’ve gone in and got your achievement killing a champ in order to sever a chain.
LinkR – you only get awards from fighting champions if all 5 portal groups manage to kill their champions, then you should have Energy Probe Defender advanced one step. This achievement requires you to fight (and win!) champions in each of the 5 lanes for the complete achievement.
In general you can do 2 each Marionette event, ie. portals at lane 1 & 4, 2 & 5, 3 & 1.
Maybe this thread should have its title updated… TTS didn’t kill it… yet.
Hey, thanks everyone! We spent a lot of time tweaking the balance on this, and I’m glad that so many people appreciate our efforts. We REALLY like hearing that people are making memories and cheering each other on. Those are the kinds of experiences we make MMOs for.
I’m not surprised that the Wurm is not liked by as many people. We were making that specifically for the hard core groups that are all about the organization and figuring out the strategy and tactics. It’s really cool watching the community grapple with this puzzle and innovate as they get closer and closer to finding a winning strategy.
It’s extremely sad to consider that the Marionette will in fact go away and is just temporary…
Hopefully you guys add some world bosses of its calibre later rather than always as demanding as Tequatl/Jungle Wurm; actually ones that a well-coordinated pug group can overcome.
Rarely got lag issues elsewhere nor do I suffer dc’s, so this is kind of the first. And from here in Norway, I can assure you we do have fast internet connections compared to many other places in the world (well- not everyone, but my service definitely is
)
Can’t resist posting the great solution to this as it appeared on Reddit. That’s no cipher you’re looking at
Probably avoidable if you ensure each lane has at least 25 non-buffed players entering the energy fields, which means you’ll have 5 per portal. Have less players in a lane and you risk having too few on one champion.
This has been happening so frequently for me lately, but after Phase 2 completes and regardless whether our lane’s been successful or failed, I often get a DC instead of the loading screen of Lornar’s Pass taking me back into my lane…
Not sure if it’s the overflow struggling, but it seems to be happening frequently for me
With full overflows it’s a hassle/rush trying to log back in and getting back into my overflow with “join in overflow” on my party members…
I’ve dodged all the text here so I’m sorry if another reply here states the same, but pls modify your thread title as well!!!
Last thing I wanted to read was “Two new zones and a Dragon…” followed by “spoilers”.
Newsflash – you’ve already bloody spoiled it…
I do want to add this though:
seriously what did you expect. Everyone to sit around in zone one for a year.
I don’t consider this such a strong argument.
There’s so many games out there, ages older than GW2 that at least have some people in the starter zones (after the first boss thingy).
No reason to not encourage your friends to get the game, GW2 is still amazing when you’re playing through the first times. And with 6 or 7 characters to my name and a few deleted alts, I have yet to experience what you say yourself, I’ve always found all zones I’ve been playing in to at least have a few players in near vicinity.
Remember GW2 has been out for a year and a half, most people are high-level by now except for new signups, and there hasn’t been any server merges so given that the game has lost some of its population from the peak, there will be fewer people in the less “central” zones at times. If that happens; just try guesting to another high pop server, i.e. for EU go to SFR and US go to Blackgate/TC/SoS, I guess?
Good luck and enjoy your time back in the game!
Well, nothing stopping him, but splitting himself up into aspects seemed like a way to hide from the threat of the Abaddon and the Titans. We already know he’s in hiding and he’s doing a good job of it, so why should he need to go to the trouble of splitting himself into aspects and hide even more… it already seemed like a dangerous hassle putting himself back together the last time he did.
But don’t get me wrong, I agree Lazarus will probably – or definitely should – return in GW2!
Tengu seem the most likely choice of next playable race; but how about – in connection with an eventual return to Cantha – Anet went a little outside the comfort zone and revived the Wardens (GW1 wiki).
Who says we’ll see only 1 race unlocked in expansion? Maybe we might get multiple & multiple classes. I think only 1 race and class for 1 expansion would be pretty much a letdown anyways.
True; I wasn’t saying it’s one or the other, just suggesting the Wardens as an alternative to the usual suspects we see whenever talking about playable races. The devs (going with Colin’s statements previously) have been thinking about adding new playable races, but not many at a time according to an interview. Thus, I’m thinking Tengu likely to show up a lot sooner than we get a Cantha expansion. And for a Cantha expansion, possibly the Wardens…
Just imagine; Wardens as new playable race and of course they bring with them Ritualists (ok, I’ll dream on outside the forum…)
That thing with the aspects was all done with back in GW1, and we killed Justiciar Naveed in Tarnished Coast back then, to bring Lazarus out. The only thing we know now is that Lazarus fled to go into recovery, but not before vowing vengeance against “countless generations”.
So, he’s presumeably hiding in recovery, but the aspects is not a case now. He’s “whole”, just not strong. But of course, that was 250 years ago, so he could return at some point. As many of us do hope!
No (no sources)
Yes (player base majority – I suspect – is demanding one and Anet cannot afford to lose all those players to new MMO “hits” coming out this year)
Since we´ve been getting all Living Story updates around morning time, my question is: will A Verry Merry Wintersday end at midnight today(in one hour) or will it stay until the new Living Story patch releases like it has always been? I´m asking since A Verry Merry Wintersday isn´t a Living Story update and because I haven´t had time to finish the meta.
It’s been live for a month and way too long already in my opinion; I’m guessing today won’t have Wintersday in its daily categories like all previous updates. Patch usually hits during evenings in Europe, roughly anytime between 5-8pm GMT.
I would definitely hurry if you’ve not yet finished the Wintersday achievements yet.
