Sylvari, as well as any race that isn’t Human, has a lot of armors that look as if they were designed for humans and then stretched over the non-human race. Sylvari have this in the shoulder/waist area, Norn have it in the legs/feet area, and Asura/Charr have it all around. You’re better off going with a cultural armor, as its the only armor that properly fits and a change to existing armors is unlikely.
There’s no special lore about it, it’s just a funny play on Trogdor. I would assume that’s why everything looks all dragon-y and fiery as well. As a fan of Homestar Runner, I’ve loved this reference ever since I saw the skills in GW1.
I actually think D/D aura sharing is the best build for dungeons. I always keep Frost Bow on my utility bar in case I have to jump out of melee range and catch my breath.
More people should use a black primary with white secondary.
I think it was in the game at one point but taken out. I’m pretty sure the actual snake NPCs were taken out of the game because they had super messed up models that would glitch through the terrain constantly. The mini’s probably had the same problem. None of this is confirmed though, it’s just my two cents.
A hammer warrior can do it way better.
I sense disrespect of the mighty Steve Blum in this thread. Terminate this thread at once.
I’ve been thinking about how to improve the Axe. As it stands, Dagger is the primary direct damage dealer, Scepter is the primary condition damage dealer, and staff is a hybrid of direct and condition damage. This leaves one niche for the Axe: the ultimate AoE damage dealer. Maybe switch the Unholy Feast animation to the auto-attack for a constant 360 degree AoE vuln. Some would call that OP but with the abysmal damage the Axe generates now, it needs huge AoE to keep it useful. The Ghastly Claws animation could also be changed so the Necro levitates his axe around him hitting all enemies around him. Lastly, Unholy Feast could get the Whirling Axe animation and apply 1 second of retaliation for each hit (8-10 hits). Any feedback on this would be nice.
I would also have to agree with the Charr, but this scenario has been debated to death. Most people think Charr or Asura would win because of their technology. I’m not sure why Sylvari wasn’t included though, they can create an infinite amount of full-grown soldiers, not even the Charr can do that.
I enjoyed it, nice kills.
We only get boons from conditions, so you can have a solid boon build but if you’re not fighting a condition build you lose all your boons.
Another excuse to show off my Necro!
I’m pretty sure that Fractal of the Mist “episode” with the Raving Asura tells a story about a different future for you hamsters.
Not necessarily different, just a possible future. Something like that Fractal could very well happen, but it probably won’t. Everything is there for it to be a possibility.
I actually have to agree with the Sylvari being a very real threat. Charr are my favorite race, but the Sylvari could easily outnumber any other species over the next few years. Not to mention the Sylvari can create turrets instantly out of the ground, something the Asura and Charr have to build with valuable resources.
Hmm, I guess I’m wrong then. They should really change the /deaths count then, it clearly says died, very misleading.
No I’m pretty sure your character is for sure dead, not unconscious. If you type /deaths in-game, it will tell you how many times your character has DIED, not how many times they’ve been defeated. I think the whole revive/respawn at a waypoint thing is just a gameplay mechanic that we’re supposed to overlook, though I could be wrong. But the game itself says we are dead, not unconscious.
“good job with armor diversity”
“there is nothing excessively skimpy”
??? If it’s lacking something that many people want, self inclusive, then they didn’t do a “good job with armor diversity”
Most people don’t like excessively skimpy armor, ANet is simply catering to the majority. If you want borderline nudity, go play TERA. ANet did a great job with showing skin/cleavage/curves and still kept it classy.
Scarier? Nah probably not. Uglier? Absolutely.
My very strange Charr Necro. The face only a mother could love.
Unlimited in the sense of Mana, yes, but it is very limited in the sense of how it can be used. No individual can do everything through magic because of the bloodstones. Pretty much magic was first unleashed, everyone was waaaaay OP and everyone was dying because of it so they toned things down a little bit.
Yeah I just meant like an Elementalist can keep casting fireballs till he’s blue in the face. There’s no recharge period because there is an infinite amount of mana to draw power from.
Not enough stripper heavy armor ingame for my taste. The Ele’s and Mes’ armor is what we need fashion wise for heavy armor, it is “Fantasy” after all, grin. Guess my definition of cute is pretty broad….
I have to disagree, I feel like ANet did a pretty good job with armor diversity in the Heavy and Light categories. There is nothing excessively skimpy like there is in TERA, but there’s still some sets that come close to being a battle bikini. Medium armor on the other hand…
That’s old concept art from a concept artist who has done quite a few of the armor designs – especially dungeon armors, including heavy CoF armor, T3 human (dubbed “Crescent Moon” armor), and Whispers heavy.
Artist’s wiki category: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Art_by_Hyojin_Ahn
Original concept art: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Norn_svanir_female_concept_art.jpgInstead of being proto Sons of Svanir, I’d say that was one of the armor designs for Honor of the Waves.
It says Svanir on that picture, so I’m guessing it was some kind of concept of a female Dragon Shaman or something like that.
Mage type classes can move mountains and cause huge amounts of destruction. A Warrior or Ranger are like those dynasty warriors heroes that can wipe out a thousand or so mooks in 15 minutes.
A mage can prepare for a battle and do massive amounts of damage to the army with flung spells, but I imagine lorewise a mage would get tired and need to rest sooner than the more physical guys. A warrior just picks up his sword and wanders around the battle field and calls it tuesday, and could do it practically all day.
Army vs Army I would imagine the physical guys would be more like a big sustain dps, mages would be more burst. A mage would do more over a short period of time, a warrior would do more over a longer period.
1v1 It probably depends on how long the mage has to prepare.
It depends on the universe, magic is an unlimited source in Tyria. (as of right now) :O
Oh my god this thread is so full of adorableness. This thread is too adorable, actually, time to crash the party.

It has to be Elementalists or Guardians out of the 8 professions we have. An Elementalist can freeze someone solid with no water around them, how can you even fight that? And Guardians can block everything, that’s why they take 2nd place. But out of all the professions that were ever thought of, Chronomancer would take it. If you’re about to kill them, they can just reverse time until they beat you. That’s even stronger than controlling the elements.
Here’s Plixxa! I’m having so much fun with the guardian profession.
Tier 3 cultural armor except the legs, which are tier 2 and look a little more feminine IMHO. Hammer is corrupted transmuted to Vigil. Dyes are abyss, celestial and frost breeze.
Wow, I’m not a fan of Asura, but kitten Very well done, she’s unbelievably adorable and super cool at the same time. I want one, can I have her?
Its a Forum based extension of Tarnished Coast’s Role Play environment.
Ah okay thanks for the clarification. I get it now, still not my thing though, I hate lawsuit cases.
I don’t get what’s so great about this. I guess this just isn’t my thing.
It has a cooldown and it is not triggering with every fall. This is a problem. I wouldn’t mind if it was a 10 point trait but it’s a 20 point trait.
I would honestly prefer for it to be a 10 point trait.
If it has a cooldown I didn’t notice it. I jumped down a bunch of ledges in Rata Sum in quick succession and activated like 6 static fields in a row.
As much as I dislike Asura, Zojja would win. She is an Elementalist. In lore, Elementalists would wreck almost every opponent, of course not in-game because of balance and game mechanics. The only other magic user in Destiny’s Edge is Logan, and he still wouldn’t stand a chance against an Elementalist. An Elementalist vs a non-magic user is like a super hero vs a normal person.
Magic powers or not – A sword in the gut is still a sword in the gut.
But to get the sword in the gut, you would have to close the distance. And by that time a elementalist would have… Well you know.
Thieves say other-wise
No one in Destiny’s Edge would realistically be able to take on Zojja, or any skilled Elementalist. They can reflect bullets and arrows, so ranged attacks wouldn’t work either. You would have to sneak up on them while they were sleeping and if you wake them up you’re dead.
Sneaking up on them is one way.
Ranged attacks are still viable if an Ele dont see it coming.
If we count The Flame legion as a mostly Elementalist heavy hoard, your statements dont have much weight, not to discredit you. Everything is situational.
Flame Legion shamans seem to only use fire magic, which is only good at blowing stuff up. The real invincibility comes from being able to freeze someone in a block of ice at the drop of hat, even with no water around. I like to compare Elementalists to Jedi, and everyone else to Troopers. So yes, they can be killed from a sneak attack, but they would win every head-on fight. To me, that’s why Zojja is the most powerful, even though I dislike Asura and Elementalists I have to admit that.

If you’re getting kited as a D/D Ele that really is a L2P issue. You have 3 gap closers on short cooldowns, not to mention immobolizes, stuns, a knockdown, and a launch. You should be eating shortbow rangers for breakfast.

Lol the Engineers in GW2 are not smarter than any other profession. Sure they have more imagination, but 90% of the Engineer’s tools don’t work properly. Turrets blow themselves up to do damage, half of the rifle skill bar involves blowing up your rifle, the elixirs are random and unpredictable, the rocket boots just throw you backwards, etc etc. Even though the description for the Engie pins the word “genius” on them, Engies in game are far from genius. They seem to me like average people with a crazy imagination and a knack for scrappy fighting/chaos. Those dialog options make perfect sense to me.
Engineers are still geniuses in that they have the intelligence to build those things.
Their curiosity just overrides their sense of safety. It’s more like book-smarts over common sense.
You’re not a genius for building something cool, you’re a genius for building something cool that actually works.
I actually really enjoy the conversation where the 2 Sylvari ask the Charr about war and he has some horribly brutal response. Even if I hear it a bunch of times I still enjoy it. I agree though hearing certain conversations in LA a bunch of times in a row gets annoying. However, I do enjoy the background noise in LA, Divinity’s Reach, and The Grove. I just consider the constant laughing and moaning to be some rather….“active”….citizens.
I just wanted to “pop” in and say that I understand how important this is to you all, and I agree that the slingshot sounds really cool when it’s fired. Unfortunately, the root of the issue is not just a mere oversight but rather a technical issue that has to do with the differences between these two weapon types. When we discovered the issue we made the determination that it was better to have the pop gun without the pop sound than not have it all.
In this case, I’m sure we want to solve this problem for other cases in the future so I would say chances are very good that this will be fixed. I just can’t say exactly when it will be fixed though. It probably won’t happen before the holiday is over.
Very cool of you to respond. I trust your judgement so I guess we’ll just have to be patient.
Ventari <3
He was my favorite character in GW1 (aside from the legendary Palawa Joko.)
I wish he had a swimming animation though. ):
Just popping in to say there is a Tengu taking part in the Wintersday snowball fights. That makes me so happy.
I squealed with glee when I saw that and took multiple pictures of it, speaking of which, I should update the gallery.
Tengu: Face me!
Me: Okay!
-engage in epic snowball fight-
At first I was OK with this, I was not expecting the Pop Gun to pop, but then I saw that the Toy Soldiers have Pop Guns that pop! Why can’t we just use those popping sounds/animations? ):
I was expecting Sylvari to talk like uneducated medieval Irishmen, not posh romanticized British chaps. I don’t really understand why they got the generic elf voice, I thought Ree Soesbee was trying to emphasize that Sylvari are NOT elves. Other than the voices and animations I like everything about the Sylvari. It’s really lame being the only race with all but 2 of our animations ripped from Humans.

The Scout loadout would be hideously OP if it were put in the actual game instead of being kept to Wintersday. The #3 skill is a low CD insta-gib that requires no skill to pull off. The #6 skill + #3 skill has earned me so many easy 1 shots I feel like a HB Warrior again.
The damage could be reduced on things if needed.
I was on the phone with a friend when I first tried out these skills and all I said was “I wish they would just swap the longbow for this…”
Well if you tone down the damage, the set is just combination of other skills. The #1 and #2 skills are from the Ranger shortbow. The #3 skill is the Ranger Longbow rapid fire skill (or the Warrior Rifle rapid fire skill, take your pick.) The #4 skill is a chargeable version of Kill Shot, and #5 is any Thief skill that stealths and blinds, which would make no sense being on a Ranger weapon set. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort to put this set in the game and try to balance it when there are way more important issues to be dealt with.
- applies no conditions giving it more damage
- has a cripple instead of giving the ranger swiftness
- is spread out over a cone so that the closer you are the more damage it does
- adds player held charging to the shot so you can wait longer for more burst or shoot fast for faster burst
- is a short duration radius 240 cloak with swiftness, this skill is just awesome.
You’re just nitpicking there my friend, those skills are still almost identical. And Rangers aren’t sneaky, stealth should stay with the Mesmers and Thieves. This weapon set would make Warrior Rifle completely useless, you have to take into account all the effects this would have.

Yeah now that I think about it an instantly available group launch would be OP. I prefer something like “Rocket Boots” that just blows you up backwards and damages those around you. Good feedback everyone, nice to see people taking matters into their own hands instead of complaining.
Let me give a little introduction.
Many people have been complaining about the Engineer’s downed state. ANet has shown that they are willing to update underpowered downed states as long as the changes are within reason. If you need proof just look at the Elementalists. They had by far the worst downed state in game, and now they have arguably the best. What I would suggest right off the bat is changing the explosion on skill #3 to skill #2 and making it instantly available. This would make us on par with the Guardians because they get a similar skill. There are 2 other changes I would like, but I wouldn’t care if they were implemented as long as the main change was implemented. The 2 optional changes are:
1) Change “throw junk” to “throw grenade” this would give us some nice direct damage and AoE. Again, I don’t really care if this actually happens.
2)Make the scorpion wire pull US somewhere else. Or just scrap it, once again, it really doesn’t matter, just offering other options.
TL;DR Swap the #3 and #2 skills with each other, it would fix the main flaws of the downed state.
P.S. If this ever happens, Warriors will be the only profession left with a bad #2 skill, so give this some kind of AoE knockdown too. Otherwise it would be unfair.

No matter how hard I try I cannot see the logic in not having a 1200 range weapon. Every single class except for us has a 1200 range weapon. That makes no sense to me and I can’t see how that can be justified.
I agree. We’re the only profession without a 1200 auto-attack. I really don’t understand that all. But I disagree with giving us a Sniper Rifle, that would completely negate the Rifle Warrior’s niche. Buffing our Pistol/Short Bow range to 1200 would be much simpler and easier. Engineer’s have a 1000 Pistol range and Rangers get a 1200 Short Bow range so it wouldn’t be very unbalanced or game-breaking. Get on that ANet. :P
