Thief is good in PvE, not the best, but you don’t really have to be the best in PvE since it’s so easy.
Thief will ALWAYS be viable in PvP/WvW because of its core theme of moving fast and hitting hard. No other class comes close to our combination of mobility and burst damage, it’s a role that only we are elite at.
Teef is just people being cute. “Kitten” comes from the censorship on the GW2 Forums. If you type something that is determined to be a swear/curse word, the website will censor that word by replacing it with “Kitten”. Go ahead, try it, you kittening kitten head kitten weed kitten.
Honestly I would love if we got double foci. It would be cool to see Thieves running around with two of these.
can teefs have dual foci? it would just be insane lol.
THIS is actually the best suggestion I’ve seen for new Thief weapons. Thieves can use magic so it’s not like a focus would be out of place.
Right now Thieves are sort of stuck at close range, since P/P is pretty terrible and Shortbow is more for utility. While I don’t think long range is for Thieves, a mid-range weapon set could really open up new playstyles. Like if the Foci were 300-600 range support weapons, that could sort of help Thieves in group situations, especially in WvW fights.
It would also be a unique playstyle, as opposed to a rifle Thief just being a Sniper-Warrior clone.
the skinniest twig in the world
On the contrary – warriors have an assault rifle. Yes, it’s still a rifle, but the use is much, much different. When was the last time you saw a sniper do rapid-fire?
The main purpose of the rifle on the Warrior is to take out enemies with Killshot – a 1500 range burst attack. A fully buffed zerker sniper warrior in WvW can 1 hit pretty much any class in the game. It’s also possible to 1 hit multiple enemies with 1 Killshot since rifle shots can be traited to pierce. Most people want Thieves to get a sniper rifle which would function similarly. I get that you like the Sniper-Assassin aesthetic, I do too, but we’re only getting 1 new weapon with this expansion, and I would rather it not be the same thing as what’s already available in-game.
I just don’t see how a rifle gives us anything new. Warriors already have a sniper rifle, if you wanna be a sniper just go play Warrior. You can hit 10k killshots in rapid succession from 1500 range, but if you get caught in close quarters you’re screwed. That sounds like what a lot of people are looking for, I just don’t see why Thieves need the exact same thing.
Nothing exciting about it. It’s just going to solidify Pistol/Pistol as the most useless weapon set in the game.
I wish I could, as I feel it’s definitely the most fun trait line for Thief, but Critical Strikes and Trickery are too useful to not go full into when running my D/P build.
He is wearing brown, engineer colored clothing so I wouldn’t get too hype about that. Regardless, I think Thief’s specialization will probably be a sniper-themed thing anyways.
The most feared mustache on Ehmry Bay.
Been a while since I’ve played this game, don’t see much talk of S/P on the forum. Is it still trash?
So what you’re saying is that if a group of skilled players fight against a larger group of equally skilled players, they have no chance of victory? Well….yeah, that’s how it works. Think about it like this: if a team of 5 of the best soccer players on Earth went up against a team of 10 of the best soccer players on Earth, the team of 5 would lose every single time. The only time a smaller team wins is when their skill level is higher, but you’re arguing that even if the big team was a good team they should still be able to lose? That doesn’t make sense at all.
Hey all,
So I’ve just come back from a long break from GW2 and I decided to start a new Thief. I like D/D so I’m trying to make that my go-to build. I figure that the only way to build a D/D Thief is to focus on damage right? So is full glass cannon still seen as the way to go, or is a more balanced build a better idea? I play a little bit of everything, PvP, WvW, PvE, and I know the builds vary based on the game type, but I’m just asking in general.
Grandpa McSwagger Swag
I challenge you to a swaggy grandpa duel.
Hell yes, I don’t care if it’s recycled content, Bazaar of the Four Winds was hands down the best thing that came out of the living story. I cannot wait to get back to it. Thank you ANet.
Gentlemen don’t need armor.
^ 9/10, she looks like she has a lot of personality. Kawaii as kitten.
This is me.
My town clothes are completely gone. They were supposed to be converted to tonics but I got nothing.
Yeah I just really want that Wintersday outfit, I missed out on it before but I would love to wear it in combat.
So with the new patch, town clothes will be converted to either costumes or tonics. I understand the general opinion of this change, but that’s not what the thread is about.
My specific town clothes are going to be turned into tonics so I’m definitely not going to bother using them, but I would still like to wear some goofy costumes into combat. I think it would be cool to put all the old costumes like the Fancy Wintersday Outfit and the Witch’s Outfit back on the gem store for like a week, in case anybody wanted to pick them up to change their combat look.
I’m not demanding this nor do I feel entitled to it, it’s just a suggestion.
A DPS Guard shouldn’t have a problem 1v1ing any class. If you’re better than your opponent you will win, regardless of their build.
If you’re a support/bunker Guard that’s a different story. You’ll need some assistance to fight off a build meant for 1v1.
R.I.P. Hipster Tom
I disagree almost completely. All of the things that we are stable at I don’t want to change. I have played the same Staff support spec since beta and I don’t ever want it to change because I have so much fun with it and I never get bored.
However, there are PLENTY of things that need to be changed on Guardian. We are far from perfect. Spirit weapons are still useless pieces of garbage, we still only have one condition, we still have no soft CC, etc etc.
TL;DR:
The stable aspects need to stay stable because they’re fine, but there are still weak aspects of the Guardian.
So has ANet just abandoned this topic? I would really like a response on refunds for all our outfits now. Very very shady if they never respond.
They did respond, they said please wait until after the patch and then refunds will be offered on anything that’s been turned into a tonic.
(snip)
To be fair, it is the weekend, and they’re probably either not at work or working frantic overtime to try to fix this mess so come Monday they can have something to show us. I don’t actually expect another answer until then; I do think they’ll at least have to provide a second answer of some sort, because enough discontent has been expressed by enough people with the first one. So…
While we continue to express our discontent to demonstrate to ANet that we do in fact care about this, let us also remember that it is the weekend and it’s reasonable to have to wait for a response until Monday. And that’s a reminder to myself as well, as I too have gotten a bit impatient…
Good point, I’ll wait until the weekend is over.
They did respond, they said please wait until after the patch and then refunds will be offered on anything that’s been turned into a tonic.
What I want to know is if there’s a time window for this. Because I don’t want to rush into refund requests if there’s a real chance they’ll restore the mix and match functionality in some way, and I will at least see what the changes really are before deciding I’d rather have the gems back than ever see that outfit again. However, if I give them 30-60 days to announce corrections or at least plans to correct, and it becomes apparent that the changes are permanent and unacceptable, I’ll be rather cheesed off if they say “You should have asked for this within 14 days after the patch, too bad, so sad.”
I know they’ll refund the items being turned into a tonic, I want a response on refunds for ALL town clothes. All town clothes, whether it’s individual head pieces, individual clothes, or full outfits are being changed and it makes no sense to only offer refunds on some individual pieces. I’m willing to forgive and forget all of this if they just give me a refund on the outfits that I am not going to use anymore.
So has ANet just abandoned this topic? I would really like a response on refunds for all our outfits now. Very very shady if they never respond.
So, as I understand it, only the top 5 servers of each league will get enough tickets to buy a Mistforged Weapon this season. This means that for Silver League, 4 servers will be stuck without them. My own server SoR doesn’t even have a chance at competing at present, though I still hope we’ll rally.
It’s very depressing that out the outset of Season 2, no matter how hard we fight or the effort an individual puts in, they simply have no hope of getting a Mistforged Weapon this season. Meanwhile, someone that transferred to a server will a sure shot at placing even 3rd or 4th and puts in the minimum work for the Meta gets a guaranteed 300+ tickets.
This just doesn’t seem like a fair way to distribute the rewards when servers within a league are so disparately balanced. I suggest all end of season chests contain enough tickets for 1 mistforged weapon with maybe a charge of tokens for lower placed servers. Servers that place in the top three simply can get an extra Mistforged, or have those extra tickets for the other rewards. That would be more balanced in my opinion.
You won’t get a Mistforged Hero’s Weapon but you will get a Hero’s Weapon, which can be upgraded into a Mistforged Hero’s Weapon in the mystic forge.
Honestly though, I would be willing to just give up on this whole debacle if ANet promised to refund EVERY SINGLE piece of town clothes. It’s ridiculous that they’re only providing refunds for some pieces of clothing when town clothes as a whole are being changed.
Well, at least I can get a refund and hope that ANet will create a costume set similar to what I have now in the future.
Really? You’d buy from them again?
I don’t care if they create an outfit exactly like the mix and match one I’m wearing now. If this change goes live, I will never buy anything from the gemstore again.
I would kinda have to buy from them again, seeing as how I can only get gems back, and not actual money back.
Well, at least I can get a refund and hope that ANet will create a costume set similar to what I have now in the future.
So it seems most people who are defending this change are saying that town clothes would clip too much with normal armor so they would have to be an all-or-nothing set. That’s reasonable to me and I get that, but what if they just make it so that you can’t mix-and-match town clothes with regular armor?
For example, if you’re wearing normal armor and you equip the khaki shorts over your character, then all other pieces of armor become invisible and your character is wearing nothing but the khaki shorts. THEN, you can continue to mix and match town clothes on. This way, there is no clipping between armor/town clothes, we still get to wear town clothes in combat, and we can still mix our outfits to our desire.
Also this has a bonus benefit, if you want to have a shirtless character you can just equip the shorts and nothing else.
Is there really no way that you guys can quickly change the town clothes to just be individual skins that mask over armor? I would rather just get a refund for the pieces I bought than have this endless tonic nonsense.
I’ve always wanted to use this set in combat. ):
I am definitely not a Social Justice Warrior either, but I agree 100% with OP. The only lore explanation for why Krytan population is so white would be if the Ascalonians forced their way in and killed all the Krytans, similar to how Europeans settled the Americas.
But that never happened, the Ascalonians were just refugees seeking a new home and the Krytans welcomed them in. Even if the Ascalonians reproduced like rabbits, they would still be a minority, and a mixed-race Ascalonian/Krytan would still have a darker complexion. It’s only been 250 years since the first game, which is hardly enough time for such a massive change in population.
The way I see it, the Krytan population should be similar to the United States population, just with Krytan people as the majority. In the U.S., 3 out of 4 people are of European descent, while the fourth person could be of Asian, African, Latino, or any other descent. The population of Kryta should be similar, in that 3 out of 4 people should be of Krytan descent (Dark eyes and hair, tan skin) and the fourth person could be of Ascalonian, Canthan, or Elonian descent.
Like I said, I’m not a social justice warrior, I don’t give a kitten about “equal representation” or “white-washing”. I am simply a huge fan of the Guild Wars Lore and I like to see it done justice. It makes no sense to have so many Ascalonian people in Kryta merely 2 and a half centuries after the fall of Ascalon.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Donut.6914
2/10. Fail.
It gets 1 point for that AWESOME map with the Zephyr Sanctum in it (of course it was temporary so I can’t even go back to visit it.)
It also gets 1 point for the AWESOME destruction of L.A. That was the first time an MMO that I’ve played has destroyed the main city like that, very cool.
It loses 8 points because the story sucked, most of the characters sucked, the content was mindless and buggy, and every 2 weeks they put out a new re-skinned item in the gem store to make a quick buck. With the exception of the Zephyr Sanctum release and L.A. getting destroyed, this “Living Story” season was a complete and utter failure.
Lol at people saying it should remain a mystery forever. That’s stupid, what’s the point of a mystery if you can’t eventually solve it?
With that said, please ANet DO NOT reveal the secret of the tower right now. The Living Story is not good enough to deliver a satisfying experience with the tower. The LS is getting better and better but I know for a fact that if they came out with an update in the next few months that allows access to the tower, it would be disappointing. Don’t let us into the tower until you’re ready to make a huge, expansive patch that will satisfy the 8 years of hype preceding it.
The making of the gear isn’t an issue. What else am i going to do in the game? I’ll probably just go Berserker and try to improve my play.
Just gonna throw this in there, Knight’s armor is not for less skilled players. Defense is not a crutch, it’s just a playstyle. It’s impossible to avoid every big hit, if it was possible then everyone would go full glass cannon. It doesn’t matter how skilled you are, if you’re out of dodges/blocks/damage mitigation and your opponent still has one big attack left, you’re screwed. The point of berserker gear is to take down your opponent before they can land that attack, and the point of knight’s gear is to be able to take that big attack head on. It’s a matter of preference, and you seem to prefer knight’s.
As for Ascended gear, I agree with everyone else that it’s just too much work right now, but if you really want it, that’s cool too.
But it’s not like WvW would get more of those people from one really nice season reward. The rewards would come every season, so they won’t be common. I’m not asking to get an ascended weapon every time I take a keep, I just want something worth the 7 weeks of monotonous farming.
Rewards always being bad doesn’t justify this reward being bad. That’s something that ANet should actively be working to fix, and this was a great chance for them to do that, which is why many expected something of value.
No, ArenaNet put those rewards there in order to get people to try WvW, and based on at least my server we have people trying it for the first time due to the Meta and are now planning to stay in WvW due to them liking it so much.
So clearly the whole idea worked out quite well.
Well your personal experience is vastly different from mine. My server is currently getting stomped because everyone was so disappointed with the rewards that no one is WvW this weekend.
I agree. Totally disappointed with how season 1 turned out. It had it’s shining moments, but overall WvW is in a bad state and something major needs to happen for me to keep playing and enjoying.
That wouldn’t have helped Donut. For Silver League, we already knew that the top 3 were going to be Fort Aspenwood, Yak’s Bend, and Stormbluff Isle. They had no competition other than each other for the top place, and nobody below them had a prayer to reach top 3. Handing out gold would have been a slap to the face of the other servers, telling us “you should have gotten more bandwagon people, since you knew you didn’t have a prayer of beating them, so it’s your fault.”
They still did that though (btw I’m from EBay too). We got really bad rewards, but Fort Aspenwood got…..less bad rewards? Their rewards were still crappy, but they got more than we did. They could just keep that part, and then give everyone something that actually has value, even if it just has value in WvW exclusively.
From what I heard, originally the prizes were better, but due to SERVER STACKING caused by the populace, they made the rewards across the board pretty much the same because they felt it wasn’t going to be fair for many servers, so they changed it to show the players “We won’t be letting any of you get anything good if you’re going to pull this kitten.” In other words, the players themselves made it so.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
That makes sense, but they could have just made the rewards good for all ranks, and great for the top ranks.
Example: Everyone gets access to one unique weapon skin, but the top servers get like 10g, while the bottom servers get maybe 2 or 3g. That’s not actually what I want, but just an idea for some balance in the rewards.
You guys are still missing my point. You’re blaming “casuals” and “achievement hunters” for spending time getting achievements in WvW. If you really care about the PvE playerbase filling up precious WvW slots, maybe you should put the blame on the people who created the achievements and encouraged PvE players to farm them.
Your problem here is NOT with any players, or with “entitled” players expecting to actually be rewarded for their work. Your problem is with ANet encouraging mostly-PvE players to do some WvW.
WvW is about WvW. if you want shineys, go in PvE.
This is exactly what my post is about. ANet put those shinies in WvW so that we would go for them. It was a major motivator for a lot of players, and it’s simply unfair to expect players to not go for the shinies.
I’m seeing that many people are justifying the underwhelming rewards with either:
1. The achievement wasn’t much work so don’t expect a reward.
or
2. You should play WvW because you like it, not for some dumb reward.
To the first point, that may be true for people who played on the bigger servers. You may have gotten your 15 achievements in the first week because your server dominated and you racked up lots of points. That’s okay with me, but not everyone had it that easy. It took me all 7 weeks of active play to get my 15.
To the second point, I agree completely, but ANet purposefully dangled that reward in front of the players so everyone would play WvW for the new season. Do you really expect players to not go for the achievements when ANet clearly wanted us to? My guild was split in half because many of the players bandwagoned to another server in hopes of getting the best reward. A lot of people were really convinced that their time would be rewarded (rightly so) and my guild basically died for nothing.
I’ll admit though, it’s personally nice to see bandwagon people getting some payback, but from an objective standpoint it’s just unacceptable.
Noice from Ehmry Bay. He lead our attacks for like 10 straight hours and knocked Stormbluff Isle down to third place. Most fun I’ve ever had in WvW.
The Alliance did start yesterday. I was there for that attack on Stonemist. We stayed out of Yak’s way because they were taking you down. We planned on rushing in behind them after they wiped the SBI zerg but they capped it too fast and we got locked out. Nice conspiracy theory though.
In that case it must have happened more than once. This was on either Monday or Tuesday. Anybody tracking the flow of the battles throughout the week saw an obvious pattern emerging.
And forget ‘conspiracy theories’. I believe the only reason that the two servers concerned ’fessed up to it was those two bunches of kittens from YB and EB had a picture taken of them standing together in front of the SBI spawn point and waving.
Give us a break!
There was no “fessing up”. Both Ehmry Bay and Yak’s Bend are totally okay with people knowing about the alliance and its result. Trust me, we don’t care about what you guys think. If we had formed the alliance earlier we wouldn’t have tried to hide it at all. We would have rubbed it in, the way we did yesterday and today. Why do you think EB/YB players didn’t start mass /wave /salute until yesterday? We were emoting for comedic effect and we would have been doing it all week if there really was an alliance all week.
