Burst mine engie has been an effective build for a while and is very effective when used correctly. However you wont see many of them around.
Here is a video of it in action:

P/D power is certainly viable. Iv enjoyed playing a build that uses Berserker, assassins, valk, and soldiers as a good balance. The build focuses on might stacking to attain its damage, So I use battle and rune of strength on one weapon set, with battle and intelligence on the other for a quick burst. The might stacking actually allows the conditions put on by the P/D weapon set to help slightly with your damage. I can stack up to 20 might stacks with this build. That combined with a full trickery tree, you can run full power gear (as I do) and at times have up to 1K condi damage. However, thats only a spike, usually I can sustain 10-14 stacks during a fight.
The only downside, is that everyone assumes your dire condition cheese.

Every person who says they do not use SA please whisper me in game so I can duel you with my Dhuumfire/Terror Necro and burst you in less than 2 seconds.
SA is required in WvW with the ridiculous Perplexity and 2000% condition duration if you don’t want to run from everyone and actually fight outnumbered situations.

Nice and simple, this is a request to the gw2 forum mods to please remove my current thread found here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/guilds/Homefront-Defenders-HD-JQ-WvW/first#post2037788
This forum post is outdated, and gives the wrong idea about our guild at this moment. However, it is the first result on google when we are searched.
I am unable to delete, edit or comment on that thread, or any others in that forum. So Could someone tell me how I can remove this post? If not could an anet forum moderator please delete it?
Thank you.

Im solo quite often, and believe me its fairly rare to see other solo roamers out there.(however there are a few of us still around)
Usually I spend 70% of my solo time hanging around at north camp in black gates borderlands.

Hello all, simple question really, Iv already Googled this question and thus I am already aware of many methods out there. However many of these methods are a bit out dated.
So just would like some suggestions of the current most effective/profitable ways of trading skill points and karma for gold.
Thankyou.

hello all ill cut to the chase.
When I play gw2 I play WvW, and all I do is roam. Its all I enjoy doing and its all I want to do. However, this particular activity yeilds essentially no loot and no gold, (unless luck favours you, which is hasn’t in my case XD) and recently I decided that after almost 2 years of roaming, that I would like a legendary(being quip). Unfortunately I detest pve, and If I ever want to be able to roam WvW with my confetti spraying pistol, im going to have to do some serious pve.
So, I was hoping that some of you guys who spend their time doing pve could give me some advice for the current most efficient and reliable way of acquiring gold. I already know of many ways of doing this (dungeons, frostforge etc) But I thought id take the time to check with more experienced pve’ers in the case that I may have missed something.
Thankyou for your time
PS: any additional advice on crafting said legendary would be much appreciated
my main obstacles are: t6 matts, icy runestones and ectos.

Just having a look at the hobo sacks thread on the engineer forum page leads me to believe that Anet will never fix this broken trait.
If hobo sacks are still in the game despite public complaint(18 pages of public complaint) then my hopes for LR being fixed/removed are very low.
heh, that speaks for a majority of the game then.

Trait should not punish player for playing aggressively.
I would disagree as this trait is intended as a defensive ability to avoid dying. Effectively your logic taken from the opposite perspective would be that CnD shouldn’t use initiative/refunds initiative spent if it doesn’t hit a target, because then it punishes you for playing defensively/far away.
So yes, I think it’s working as intended and shouldn’t be changed.
When I go on the defensive I try to find stealth asap. When Im at 30% or so, unless iv got a utility ready, I cant find stealth without running the risk of LR proc and thus my immediate death, due to most of my build running off hand dagger.
So no even whilst going defensive this trait still can kill you.

Hey! I’ve been looking for a guild that focuses in roaming WvW and/or PvP for a while now
I’d love to join your guild, but I don’t have the funds for a transfer at the moment. Would I still be able to join the guild as of now and run PvP with guild members if they ever feel like it? I hope I can get a transfer soon, however. I’d love to play with skilled players that coordinate with others.
No worries, Ill try to whisper you in game.
If however I cant contact you:
-What timezone are you in?
-Character level and anything else you would like to add.
We’re usually happy to take anyone with an interest in roaming, as we’re usually pretty laid back, but if your looking for people to pvp with you might want to be in an OCX timezone, because if you live in the US or Canada etc, it might be difficult to play with you due to timezones.
Hopefully ill be able to contact you in-game, if not just reply below.
Cheers.

If LR only put sleath, i will gree with you.
In fact LR give sleath AND blind all ennemies in radius.
So at 5 k health you will not be instant down…. or if you down under 5 k hp without burst the prob is here. With blind you can safely escape with last refuge. So yes you must put this trigger in your gameplay.
for your experience :
1500 hours in roaming in WvW, haven’t rly sense fore me. One of the reason its in wvw you are in open world with not balance stuff.
In my experience i have killed many people with my thief in wvw (1v1,1v2, etc ..) et die vs bus. It isn’t a “good” experience for pvp.
Other reason is area of effetc is limited to 5 target, this is just game break for some skill (LR is one)In SPVP, the number of target is often under 5. So LR is advantage.
I m not saying i never die cause of this trait. I m saying : its not a bad trait, just not easy to play with
I think you might need to read my post again carefully, that or I need to re-word it.
Take note of my only counters to LR, and explain to me if there is a third alternative, besides running away.
Jade Quarry’s dedicated Roaming/Havoc Squad Guild
I was just playing with my clan in WvW and we had 13 people storming Ags, inside the enemy tower there were only about 4 players (3 thiefs and a warrior). Firstly the warrior smashed us with his hammer and then knocked us back, the thieves then managed to kill off around 7 of our people within the next 5 – 7 seconds.
We ended up having to retreat as they kept spamming invis and blinds, I mean my spells as an elemntalist are even effected by blinds, how the hell does this make sense? How can magic miss even if you are blinded…
We lost a 4 v 13 for gods sake.
yet still people say this classs needs a buff, yeah right is what i say .
4 v 13? Because of 3 thieves? As much as I would like to write a constructive argument, your posted iv quoted really says everything.
Jade Quarry’s dedicated Roaming/Havoc Squad Guild
snip
Ty, I know how to build and play my thief. LR is broken. Choke on it. Oh and fix your post cause half of it makes no sense. You have some trouble with LR -> learn to play with.
I can’t believe you have done your self a SA build… All good thief who have build SA haven’t trouble with this trait.
Does 1500 hours roaming as a thief in WvW count as good? Being “good” is a very subjective term, but after that many hours of not having a life here’s my conclusion. LR is an abomination for an SA thief. The only common occasions last refuge saves thieves is:
1. The thief is running away players are in pursuit and last refuge goes off.
2. Player is new to thief, has wasted all initiative HS spamming after which last refuge goes off, and said thief has no initiative left to break LR with.
3. Luck.
As for the rest of us, we’re careful with our initiative and rarely miss our cloak and daggers. However, we’re punished by our ability to find stealth by this trait.
The most common thing I hear from players defending LR is that you should “anticipate it”. So in other words, when our HP falls to…. lets say 30%? Thieves should stop attempting to stealth themselves and allow LR to do it for them. This method is inviting death.
Now im gonna go out on a limb here, and say most sustained SA thieves sit at around 16k hp default, give or take 2k either way. I know HP varies alot more then im making it out to be, but for the sake of this point lets say 16k. Last refuge will pop when said thief reaches 4k. alright, so….. we’re expected to stop attempting to stealth ourselves once we hit say….. 5k? … and hope that the next attack doesn’t hit for 5k or so?
Because you know, its not like a thief is a squishy class, im sure its exceedingly rare to be hit for anything over 1k right? Its not like we should try to avoid dmg at this point. Instead we should face tank the next attack to ensure LR goes off at a good time. How could that backfire?
So basically we have 2 options. Attempt a stealth whether it be Cnd or a hs + bp with the risk of LR going off mid cast and adding revealed and killing us. Or, we do nothing at all, and hope that the next attack delivered by our opponent doesn’t crit thus killing us?
Please explain to me how I should L2p to counter this trait. If any other thieves who have played SA have any experience dealing with LR please share it
TL;)DR
LR is terrible, a thieves hp is too low at 25% to allow any form of dmg to hit them thus allowing LR to go off in an ideal moment.

Jade Quarry’s dedicated Roaming/Havoc Squad Guild
Just curious any experience against a s/p + sc/t PU mesmer?
Yes, a great deal as I have experimented with that build myself. Similar fight to the one in the video, however you need to eliminate the duellists ASAP. The bleeds they stack if the mesmer is able to summon more than 1 is overwhelming.
Or just run p/d condition and cheese all over the mesmer until they’re dead. A good old fashion cheese vs cheese (bring crackers) :P
Both tactics work just fine.
Yeah P/D or even D/D won’t work if the mesmer uses it’s clones as a shield and destroying the phantasmal duellist is only one direct point of condition application. Mostly you have to worry about the random degen that accumulates constantly as u fight the mesmer (even if you have condi removal). Generally s/p + sc/t is better combination than staff + s/t or sc/t. With all this in mind, they still will remain roamers and nothing more.
I think I have to disagree with you there in terms of p/d. A condition condi p/d thief is a very good counter to PU mesmers, the ability to strip boons on steal essentially nullifies their PU. Add the perma stealth you gain from the illusions with Cnd, and you essentially get a combination that can quite easily deal with condi PU mesmers. The constant access to stealth allows you to maneuver yourself around the fight, thus you avoid hitting the illusions with sneak attack.
Im not saying that you can never lose as a p/d condi thief vs a PU mesmer, but if played correctly, you can win quite easily. But again it depends on the mesmer.
Thats my experience anyway.
Side Note: A power thief however will always fight an uphill battle against a well played PU mes. The perma protection is a nightmare.
Disagree with you too, considering how I never typed what kind of PU spec I would actually utilize. You maybe think it’s the general PU spec, but if you use the right heal utility, normal utility and trait you have an advantage over said p/d thief. Plus the mesmer will hide inside the clones thus using them as a shield if the thief tries to sneak attack. If they blow up the clones, they will take some condi but nothing major. Either way, it can end up as a truce between both the thief and mesmer. It also, does not matter if the thief stripes the boons from the mesmer at all. They are just mostly there to deal with physical damage or constant CC threat.
I won’t type how the mesmer will try to turn the fight into it’s favour and beat the p/d. Why give away tips that anyone can find out for themselves.
;P
You raise good points, but this sort of debate could go on forever, and it really comes down to the player playing the class. A traited healing mantra which I believe you are referring too, (I think) is capable of curing condi’s and thus may give the mesmer a bit more of a chance.
But usually for me when I play the cheese full condition dire p/d, I rarely lose to PU mesmers. And on the extreme rare occasions that I do, its usually due to an error on my part combined with a well played mesmer. Iv always attributed that to the p/d condi dire spec being unbalanced and a good counter to PU mesmers. But then again iv clocked 1500hrs on thief and 900 hrs on a PU mesmer. So I know all the tricks of both classes, which I suppose does give me an edge? If it helps, I could upload a video on how to kill mesmers using the condi p/d cheese? (let me know, I need something to do to take up my time atm haha)
I just assumed that people really aren’t interested in seeing an unbalanced spec destroying people. Thus why my future video’s would consist of me playing power based specs.
At the moment iv settled on a power/sustained dps d/p p/d set which im really enjoying.
Anyway, each to their own, thats just my take on it :P

Hey frosty, unfortunately my guild isn’t on (EU) Desolation, we’re located on Jade Quarry NA.
So keeping that in mind, you might want to join our guild Homefront Defenders [HD]. We’re a roaming/Havoc squad guild thats primarily active during OCX due to the majority of our members living in Australia and Singapore. However we also have members living around the world, some in Canada and the USA. Many of our members partake in PvP from time to time.
Its late here so If your interested here is a recruitment post:

Hey guys,
I’ve been an active player in a large guild on SBI/SoR/TC since beta as an event planner and runner, active forum member, forum/Steam/TS/Mumble moderator, and even Guild Leader, but right now I just want to be part of a guild that meets(ish) the following:
Oceanic presence and Missions (9am-2pm server time) – I’m an Aussie, so I’d obviously prefer that the guild roster is active when I am. TC would be my first pick, as I play at least 50% WvW and would prefer not to fork out transfer fees, but I’ve struggled to find an active PvX guild on TC that runs Guild Missions during Oceanic primetime.
Not JQ or BG – Much respect to JQ as opponents over the last year and a half, but my hatred for your red nameplates runs a bit too deep to run alongside you. I’d feel a bit like a traitor, sorry! I won’t comment too much on my thoughts regarding BG in WvW.
PvX – I generally play mostly WvW, but I enjoy every area of the game. It’s not overly important that the guild I join plays WvW, as I can easily continue joining others on TC. As long as they aren’t anti-WvW. I would prefer to have a guild I can play with 100% though. Bonus points if they havoc.
Active comms/chat – I enjoy meeting and getting to know my fellow guildies. Voice comms are obviously important in WvW. I enjoy Guild Chat BS as well. I like to play GW2 as an MMO, not in silence by myself, or with a dead guild chat. I already have all voice comms installed.
If you can tell me a guild that meets(ish) these requirements, I will love you forever.
Cheers,
Vbac
(Linghy.2031)
Unfortunately we meet every one of those requirements haha. But yea we’re on JQ. 80% of our member are oceanic most of them being Aussies as well. So timezone wouldn’t be a problem. In terms of WvW we’re a full roaming guild. We don’t Zerg or blob. We operate in groups of 2-5, however all of our members are seasoned solo roamers.
Essentially we are a guild that spends the vast majority of its time in havoc squads around WvW.
Oh and we own our own TS that our members use whenever they play.
I know that being on JQ was a deal breaker, but I figured that It couldn’t hurt to give you this option as perhaps a “worse case” scenario. Anyway, the option is there if you want it, but otherwise good luck finding the guild your looking for
If perhaps however unlikely, I may have tempted you to turn to the dark side, here is a more official post:

Homefront Defenders – [HD] is now openly recruiting!
[HD] Is a dedicated roaming guild born on JQ in February of 2013.
We have recently started a youtube channel which can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHM5ShZS7SZW1ciDWivZRdQ
We are seeking existing roamers, or WvW zergers wishing to get into squad roaming.
We are primarily an OCX/SEA guild, and usually roam every night during OCX prime until early EU. However, we have newer members across almost all time zones.
Our focus is mainly on structured, squad size (2-5 player) roaming. We designate a clear objective for a given period of time and work to achieve that.
These objectives can range from blockades on enemy towers by starving supply, intercepting enemy reinforcements to turn the tide in zergfights, keeping way points contested for hours at a time, assassinating/CCing enemy commanders, scouting, hunting enemy roamers or simply camping the Obsidian Sanctum.
In this format, the skills of each team member is pivotal to our success as a unit – unlike zerging, every move you as an individual make can either win, or lose, the team a fight.
What we can offer you:
- No strict repping rules: We ask that you rep whilst you roam, other than that rep whatever you please.
- An outlet to refine your PvP skills: Many people zerg in WvW, but how good are you really at GW2 PvP? Many of our members came to us with no roaming experience, and they have grown into excellent players as a result of playing with friendly, like minded players.
- Builds: We have our own theory crafters, as well as a large list of roaming builds that are under constant maintenance and refinement. We can help you tailor an effective build for any play style you enjoy.
- A private TeamSpeak 3 server available to all guild members for any game they are playing, not just GW2.
Requirements:
- Respect. As we are a structured roaming guild, immaturity of any type is not tolerated. This applies to all players, friend or foe.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to learn team dynamics.
- At least one level 80 character.
- Be willing to create a roaming build if not already in possession of one.
- Speak fluent English.
Questions?
If you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to send an in-game mail to one of our guild leaders or officers:
Techlord Veypor – Leader
Doug The Unseen – Leader

Hey there, perhaps our guild Home front defenders [HD] is for you? We’re happy to take anyone with an interest in roaming. We are currently based on Jade Quarry and all we do is roam. However, as you can imagine, it can be difficult to recruit people who enjoy roaming, so currently our guild is reasonably small.
We usually enjoy roaming in groups of 2-5, however each of us are experienced solo roamers, with some of our members clocking over 1500 hours of roaming.
We don’t tell you what build to run or how to play, (unless people seek advice) we just enjoy logging on and having some fun.

Are you the type of player that has grown tired of mashing auto attack in a blob of 80 people? Enjoy small scale fights to be found around the map, yet have no one to work with?

However, would still be happy to put up with the very minor issues this would cause in the open world, just to duel people on the fly.

In a word, no. You need to play thief to understand how difficult it is to land a back stab whilst even crippled. Movement reduced by 50%? No one would run a melee thief, it would be impracticable and pain full.
Thieves are already getting hit hard with the upcoming crit dmg nerf. This would make the class almost unplayable.
