I’ve been playing HoT since release and refrained from posting about my frustrations with it for this long, but now decided i’d make a post.

I really enjoyed Guild Wars 2 for it’s vistas, sprawling, open maps, and the exploration aspect of the game. But these new maps in HoT, while visually stunning, pale in comparison to the freedom to content the original maps provided.

I find myself running around for hours on empty maps, trying to find events to do or reach anything, but much of the time it ends in failure. Time limits on bosses and the like don’t make it easy.

If I’m lucky, I find a zerg train of players running the events. But that is simply boring and mind numbing after a while.. I have no issue with challenging content, which is what HoT provides. But my problem stems from just how INACCESSABLE the content is. You either cannot reach the content, cannot do it because of a mastery, or it’s simply impossible because it was designed for a group. What happened to the scaling we used to see on the original maps?

And then there are events such as the Ancient City breach event. Every time it runs there either isnt enough players around, or theres many but we just can’t beat it in time. It is frustrating for a lot of players to put so much effort into a world event but to get nothing in return. This is not challenge, it’s unrewarding just like the rest of it.

Wheres the lore? Wheres the content? I’m constantly asking myself this. I can’t find it.. where are the peaceful NPC villages of Hyleks and such? There isnt even anything here for someone interested in the lore. It’s just region after region filled with veteran mobs and clusters of mushrooms and pocket raptors. It just isn’t fun.. and I’ve lost all my motivation to try anymore.

I logged into one of my alts who’s last location was Timberline Falls. Immediately I felt a huge sense of freedom and for exploration.. the map was vast and I could go anywhere.. it was then I realized why I loved GW2 so much in the first place.

The key word for my dissappointment is inaccessability.. unlike Timberline Falls or other maps, I cannot go as far as the eye can see.. I cannot explore at my own will and out of my own curiosity. The map is as much used as a tool for navigation as it is to solve a puzzle on trying to work out how to get get on a ledge, and even then it’s so vague I’m just giving up trying now.

I really wanted to like Heart of Thorns.. and there’s still that possibility. I’m going to keep trying, and not give up. But so far it just isn’t appealing to me like I had hoped

everytime im at the Battle of Tarir event on Auric Basin with 4 commanders the game crashes halfway through and when i come back i end up on the overflow this happened twice today. I can never get the chest at the end

Skyhammer is one of the better maps and it’s because of it’s verticality and need for more situation awareness. players generally don’t like to think about the environment and instead want to just KILL KILL KILL and think of nothing else, whether that be in a zergball or something else. i vote for Skyhammer as much as possible because i find it refreshing honestly.

Survival Skills not removing conditions?

Using the “Wildnerness Knowledge” trait it mentions survival skills are supposed to remove up to 2 conditions. But ive noticed in many instances they’ve only removed immobolize but nothing else. is this a bug or could there be a hidden cooldown?

during the last beta weekend we had different music in the main menu and even that felt kind of exciting and refreshing. It would be cool to as well have a brand new character select screen when the expansion hits. I’m thinking darker colors, dark brown, black, lots of green and vines strewn about everywhere. What do you think?

but that is the problem. a lot of conditions hurt faster than i can build adrenaline + hit enemy with a burst skill. meanwhile rangers and other classes have easy “oh kitten” button. i just think a good compromise would be removing the impact enemy requirement, so that i could flee a fight and still clear conditions that are debilitating me.

speaking from personal experience in spvp matches, the requirement to actually hit an enemy with the burst skill for this trait to work is unreliable at best especially for a melee class who might not even be in burst range. Not only that but sometimes the burst skill not connecting at all (hammer burst bug)

other classes have ways to clear conditions without having to hit an enemy to do it so why cant us?

No hearts. The hearts are in the leveling maps. Cursed Shores, and the maps added since launch are without hearts. They do have waypoints, Mastery points and points of interest. I don’t remember seeing any vistas.

That’s good to hear Hearts are not bad, but sometimes i feel they weren’t much different to traditional mmo questing. Thank you.

I mean that is what the game was supposed to be designed around to begin with, hence why after you get to Orr there are no more hearts.

I could agree with this. The heart activities aren’t bad and can be interesting and fun sometimes, but having incomplete hearts placed on the map urges the completionist in me. So in a way, it effects free exploration in a negative way.

sometimes when theres a few of us, me or the others have to stand around waiting for others to catch up so we can move onto the next heart. It’s by no means a big problem but i think it would improve the flow of things for a party of players trying to get through content together.

in Wildstar if you and a party member accept a quest together you both contribute to it’s progress as you carry out it’s various tasks. I was thinking, it would be nice if in GW2 all members of a party could contribute to a hearts completion, making completing zones and doing hearts feel more like a team effort. I think this kind of small change fits in perfect with ArenaNets central philosophy.

yeah its funny when other classes try to facetank or rush my ranger and i hand their kitten to them (without longbow). really i dont see many rangers playing my build as it’s my own, so i tend to surprise the enemy

No thank you. I don’t want the Devs to dumb down the game just because people don’t know how to use their mouse, Target key or Tab button.

okay ill just have to keep left clicking that thief over and over again about 10 times during a fight but they only had to target me one time at the start. that is really fair and balanced isnt it?

well we had 2 necros at the keep on forest map, both minion necros. And to suffice to say they felt impossible to reach, let alone do any damage to. then theres ones which train zerg around the map with minions steamrolling everything :P

so we have 2 options, autotargeting or no autotargeting.

With no auto targeting, its a kittening chore to keep target on foes such as thieves, mesmers, rangers.. pretty much anything that can go invisible. because when they become revealed again, your tab or click target you did is invalidated and you need to “re-engage” them again. This is stupid and slows down your attacks a ton, and feels like im fighting the UI just as much as the foe im facing!

The lesser of two evils is having autotargeting switched on. With this, a simple press of my autoattack or a skill will re-engage a foe who just become revealed, making it much less of an issue.

Now we have minion necros, and ive been seeing them more and more lately. With autotargeting on, i cant even keep target on the necro because he has like, 5 kittening minions surrounding him that keep getting targeted. And I can’t switch autotargeting off, because then i have to deal with invisible enemies. PLEASE FIX THIS!

Anet you touted guild wars 2 as being an action combat mmo. Well it is, but it still relies on targeting and I cannot even begin to damage an enemy unless i have them targeted, which is making these “targeting avoiding builds” an actual effective strategy for players.

SIMPLE SOLUTION: If I kittening “click” target an enemy, keep that enemy targeted until I MYSELF CHOOSE MY NEXT TARGET! Is this so kitten hard to implement or are we just going to allow these crappy cheating exploiting players to abuse targeting the way it is by using builds or playstyles that are anti targeting?

2-3 minion necros is a successful strategy and it’s plain sad to see! >:( im getting mad about this.

While browsing youtube i came across this review video dubbed over footage of a spvp match on legacy of foefire map. i noticed the teams were 10 vs 10 and the map displayed on the minimap looks like a larger playing area (or its just displayed differently). From the gameplay it looks like a much more chaotic unpredictable mash of players fighting and looks kind of fun.

yes i said it. pvp seems to have become nothing more than condition build after condition build. i spend more time looking at my condition bar trying to fight off conditions with my cleanses than actually engaging in the fight. if i dont pay attention for half a second my health instantly drops at like 3k a tick and im dead, meanwhile they put conditions on you faster than your condition clearing skills can even recharge. this isnt fun anymore

Please, allow us to once again queue up on PVE maps. I want to play Guild Wars 2 again.

I feel like my characters are ghosts who are in limbo in the mists. Was this intended? It feels like this.

Please allow us to enjoy the colors, the sights, and the breadth of the the world while we queue up for PVP matches either alone or with friends. Please, and thank you for reading.

That IS the challenge, hitting the long casting times.

Warrior isn’t effective because you just can’t do it.

maybe you are right.

guardian/ranger i seem to have a much easier time. I’m a very defensive player by nature. I think part of my problem is, im not relentless enough or i dont pressure and push the enemy enough. I guess an effective warrior would approach things more aggressive than i do.

As guardian i tend to defend myself best i can, get a shot in here and there, and eventually, i might outlive my enemy and i can call it a victory. but with warrior, unless i push push push, im a sitting duck. maybe i just dont have it in me to do it well.

i probably play close to 3 dozen matches per day, maybe more. And i’m always rotating between Ele, Ranger, guardian, engineer, and warrior. but every day, without a shadow of a doubt, when i play warrior i just feel hopelessly underpowered, clumsy, uneffective, like im some kind of laughing joke. if im holding a point, i feel like im just waiting for anyone to come along and kill me without much effort.

hits not registering, or being way too slow to catch up. getting ganked by thiefs over and over. i feel largely open to damage with not many options when it comes to defence. i can put my shield up for 4 seconds, dodge, or do a 360 swipe with my hammer. thats about it.. im a fish in a barrel. burst skill on hammer doesn’t even hit 90% of the time, it’s been broken for as long as i can remember.

most of my moves are slow and cumbersome, and extremely predictable. thieves and mesmers can just play games with me, im completely useless against them most of the time, unless they just happen to be really bad at their class, or be too co…cky and get hit. but still, they taunt and play with me like im a toy.

i really want to like warrior, its the aesthetic i like and i like the idea of being a practical, active, more physical fighter with at least a semblance of honor. but i cant help but feel frustrated with it and tempted to just give up the class for good until something better comes along or it gets something new added to it..

what are the least predictable sPvP maps, in your opinion?

For me, they would be Skyhammer, Temple, Khylo.

Skyhammer is great because the uncertainty of falling through the map, or that someone taking control of the laser can really turn the tide of battle.

Khylo it’s the same thing. focusing too much on trebuchee can win or lose the match for you.

Temple is awesome because of tranquility at 8:30 which can disrupt the entire field of battle. Plus, some really awesome fights down there over who gets the big buff!

Some of the predictable ones for me would be, Legacy of Foefire, or Forest.

They both have their own equilizers too, like Lord or Svanir. But they don’t break up the monotomy too much. Though, it is satisfying when you get that lord and win a losing battle.

Forest can have some cool battles. but also i feel its all about moving around the map in a circular pattern. not much there to break up the flow for interesting results.

Courtyard would have to be the most predictable. Theres only really 3 outcomes, you win hard, or you lose hard. or its a pretty even fight. but nothing really unexpected really ever happens. still, a cool map.

will the old way of leveling ever return? it seems everyone ive talked to in-game preffered the old method of leveling, ie; unlocking weapon skills as you use them. Being able to start your personal story immediately. etc.

What is the purpose of these walls? are they just trying to make leveling feel longer and contrived or is it something else? starting up alts just isn’t as fun as before.

In my 2 years of playing sPvP ive never really followed any builds or meta or anything. I always just took my class, skills, and traits at face value and decide for myself what i like to use. Sometimes find good combinations, and little strategies. For the most part it works for me. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. I think I do reasonably well.

After all, I think that’s a pretty big “101” when it comes to good game design – the player should be able to work things out and get good at the game from simply playing and learning by exploring different things within the game itself. And a game like GW2, with a lot of diversity in skills and abilities, one should decide for themself what skills and traits suits their personal playstyle.

Just wanted to leave some positive feedback on the current setup of PVP dailies, being defender and capture and also the 2×2 profession winner. It’s been great so far and feels like theres a lot more diversity in each map than there was before. Not to mention more chances of there being a class I enjoy playing as, most days I’m playing more than a few matches to get my hero chests. Thanks!

I always feel a bit strange when I see forum posts like these. I do a fair bit of PvP and I don’t think I’ve ever run into players like this. Maybe that’s just variance, but I’m curious: do you who experience troubles play ranked? Unranked? Hotjoin? Which region do you play in?

I play unranked on Far Shiverpeaks server.

I am convinced now..

Again today, it seems i cannot play a simple match to do my daily without some jerk with a big mouth. I’m always silent. i just play, but have to deal with these comments. What happened to this community? It’s only getting worse every day..

“kill yourself”
“you are bad”
“haha easy”
etc

And you guys are surprised people are dropping out of matches, and leaving it at 4vs5? Like I want to hang around to deal with this…

How about.. stop abusing players and just play? Nope, its too hard for you isnt it. You just need to scratch that itch, to make you feel better about your miserable self.

Then the match ends, but that doesn’t stop you, you have to begin the whispers. Action needs to be taken to stop you, such as blocking. But where is the justice, there is none. Report a player, and nothing at all is done. But most of all, what did I do wrong to deserve this treatment from the competition? nothing, all I did was try to play the game.

I’m sorry, but i quit today. I’m not interested in my daily, it’s just not worth it having to deal with these players. It’s either back to PVE or I’ll wait for HoT to play PVE, but PVP is just very undesirable to me.

play how you like and how your comfortable and get good at it.

but yes it is very manic thanks to people playing as mesmers, thieves and the like where half their gameplay is going invisible, throwing illusion effects at other players, or doing random, passive damage with minimal tells. I wish the spammy classes would go but we’re stuck with them. Brawling is infinitely more enjoyable to me.
