The only profession I feel brings nothing to the table in a group are Rangers. Most stand back, offer no support, let you soak up all the damage, and let their pets drag in mobs you’re not ready for yet. Most of their skills are single-target, so they suck at crowd control as well.
All that said, I wouldn’t exclude one. But I draw the line at one per party.
I’ve noticed they are still low after the patch as well. I salvaged a whole set of dungeon armor and two dungeon weapons and I didn’t get a single ecto. I usually get one about 75% of the time. Ectos aside, I also only got 1 run and no sigils from the same salvages, and I usually get those 90% of the time. I won’t bother ever doing that again.
ANet response to this topic: “We’ve pulled data and too many people use Valkyrie gear, and we feel this detracts from your experience. In an effort to push everyone towards the Berserker Warrior class, we are removing all Valkyrie-based items from the game.”
People stack on AC P3 because the AI is complete trash and will flat out refuse to use the shield skill, causing an instant wipe of the entire party. That encounter is so much easier if you don’t stack and Grast does his job, but since you can’t rely on the forced mechanic to work properly 100% of the time, there is absolutely no incentive to do it properly, yourself.
The bags mostly contain crafting materials, and you can generally get bags cheaper than their respective material tier. It’s a bit of a gamble, but if you buy enough at a time, you’ll usually wind up slightly better than if you had purchased the mats directly.
We’ve all adapted to the changes for the most part, but the troll is completely stupid, still. It’s not hard, but a the unblockable chaining interrupt auto-attack and constant fearing draw out that encounter three times longer than it should be to the point that it’s not even worth fighting it anymore. And that’s coming from a guy who dropped from instances when the group voted to skip Kholer/Troll.
I’m late to this topic, but I’m going to answer the OP, anyway.
They make money through microtransactions and the cost of the game, itself. Microtransactions are HUGE in MMOs, anymore. You look at all the MMOs out there that are making tons of money, and they are more free-to-play than GW even is. World of Tanks, League of Legends… they don’t even charge you for the game itself and they are raking in the dough. Those games sell in-game content, such as XP boosts, premium classes, unique skins, etc… and they make a fortune off them.
ANET not only makes a ton of money by forcing players to buy unique licenses for their games, but now they even make money on mictotransactions. While they don’t go as far as WoT or LoL in terms of what you can buy in the game, but they are still making a ton of money off it, especially on the Gem to Gold conversion.
I’m running an i5 2500k OC’s at 4.4GHz with 16 GB of Ram at 1866 MHz. I have a GTX560, and the game runs without issues at highest settings. The only time I get some slowdown is when I load Lion’s Arch the first time after opening the game.
I have the game installed on a 256 GB Vortex SSD, and I’m going to move it to my HDD as any performance you gain from faster drive access is nullified by the fact you’re gated by the server’s upload speed. My maps are done loading in twice the speed it takes to DL the instance info.

They have ever color of the rainbow in the laurel ascended gear, but the one thing I’m not seeing is valkyrie gear. Are there plan on adding it? I’m sitting on close to 100 laurel and nothing worthy to spend it on…
You seem to underestimate the female gender?
Are you really going to argue that human females aren’t physically inferior to human males? I’m not speaking in terms of opinions, here – it’s a scientific fact. Some species, the female is physically superior, but humans aren’t one of them.
That all aside, prostitutes were the dominant assassins for a long period of history. No easier way of killing a man than getting him naked and exhausted, then slitting his throat or slipping him some poison.
Its because a thief is really a assassin in GW2, they purposely designed it to be able to kill any of the other 7 classes in a 1v1 situation no problem…
Assassins aren’t brawlers. They killed people in their sleep, from a distance, or via proxy. Most documented assassinations prior to the industrial age were actually performed by woman.
So, no, assassins aren’t inherently more deadly than other professional killers.
Are warrior[s] … going to have their burst nerfed so they aren’t at the top?
LLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
Nerfing warriors… wipes tear classic! ANET would sooner sell their mothers into slavery than nerf a class that actually needs nerfing.
gw2lfg.com is your best bet. Post a LFG and wait. Spam map chat while you wait. Expect a good 10 mins of waiting for a full group on non-daily event days.
Yeah, and it’s even worse when someone like you is the instance host, leaves the party, and NO ONE gets the end rewards.
The instance system is just stupid.
DR exists everywhere in the game. If you play the same events over and over, you will experience DRs. From what I understand, DR is area specific, and in order to reset your DR in a specific area, you must leave it and participate in events in another area.
It’s a really stupid mechanic which wasn’t thought through.
I like how the main response to this is “HURP A DURP WE CIRCLE ZERKERS ARE TOO STUPID TO PLAY ANYTHING BUT WARRIOR SO YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID HURP A DURP !!”
It usually happens because a member of your team has positioned themselves in an invulnerable area. The game detects when a target is invulnerable and makes enemies invulnerable as a result. While it might be a little buggy, I’ve never seen it happen for no reason, so I usually just start yelling at party members until they man up and join the fight.
It’ll get revamped, there’s no question about that. Some sort of arbitrary mechanic will be introduced to do nothing but slow you down. The Devs hate the players, so if there’s something players enjoy, you can count on it being patched out.
I got glitched into/through walls so much during the part where you clear the room of those annoying things that knock you down…
That’s not the cause of the patch, nor is the cause of the mobs. It’s always been like that, and it happens when you’re standing on the hitbox of the graveling mound when it surfaces/disappears.
Very annoying bug, though.
AC is as easy as it ever has been – it just takes longer, now. I can still run P1 and P3 in less than 15mins, each, depending on the party, and less if we skip Kholer and the troll. I also still use it to level alts, so I’m not entirely sure where you’re coming from on this…
I think there’s one thing everyone can agree on, though: P2 is just plain stupid. Between the glitchy NPCs and the horrendous gimmick of a boss fight, I’ll probably never opt to play it again.
Plot twist: NO CRAFTING
Trying to find the quickest way to get to a Dungeon level so I can start leveling the rest of the way from there. Story quests give a decent amount of XP, but is inconsistent to the point where the quests will out-level you if you focus solely on them.
Dynamic events give such little XP that they aren’t worth the time you put into them.
WvW used to be an experience haven, but I tried that the other night, and I don’t know if they reduced the XP you get from capturing outposts and strongholds, but it took an hour just to get one level.
So, what to do?
I think we should just start publicly shaming them so they are too embarrassed to comport themselves in this way, anymore. Personally, I enjoy calling them circle-zerkers (seems fitting), and when I see a non-CoF LFG touting “zerg war only post equip”, I’ll open an incognito tab and create a post in their name, using the description box to insult them in increasingly creative ways.
Probably due to the fact that it costs more to do business with Europeans than it does with Americans and Brits.
I would suggest trying to see if your server has a High level Material Map posted somewhere i know my current server Fort Aspenwood has one which updates a day after each patch.
Where is this map located?
Harder then you think. Consider different languages, which vary in length, re-sizable windows…
This a minor problem. But I agree that it is a problem.
Not even close. It’s called Word Wrap, and all UI fields have an element to turn them on. It’s part of the properties and literally takes seconds to enable. They must have just thought truncating the names looked better than wrapping them.
They were lying. You can make small profits on crafting things, but it would require a ton of volume to net you 10g in an hour. The sad fact that because crafting is so accessible and easy to master, buying the item off the TP is usually just as cheap as crafting it.
The argument can be made that if you gather all the materials yourself rather than buying them on the TP you can make a fair bit of money, but gather takes forever and doesn’t accommodate for quick gains.
Jewelers with dungeon recipes can make a bunch of net gold in relatively short period of time, but they still have to grind dungeons for tokens, and with diminishing returns, I don’t think even they can net 10g an hour.
Who thinks path 2 is hard? It isn’t hard, it’s just terrible. The boss mechanics are a novelty – something that belongs in the Super Adventure Box, and certainly not something you insert into a dungeon redesign.
All that aside, though, that isn’t what makes path 2 truly terrible. It’s the fact that the NPC can glitch on you, permanently. Why even take the chance?
Okay, “laziness” was a bit harsh, I agree.
I don’t believe it is the Ooze mobs that is the issue, though. The general consensus is that Deltha gets stuck in the “in-combat” status which will prevent the event from triggering. Presumably, killing Deltha resets her in-combat status, which is probably why she usually works afterward.
Generally, when people skip those mobs, Detha usually ends up tangling with the Graveling mobs, not so much the Oozes. This is why people have begun killing the Gravelings in the area before the boss room, and that seems to prevent her from bugging.
After observing the way Grast behaves on the Colussus fight, could there be issues with queued actions on the NPCs? It seems like if an action is queued, the AI will focus on nothing else besides that action, regardless of what the conditions call for. If that’s the case, could queued actions have a timeout that, if not executed within, say, 10s, it is purged? As a fellow developer by trade, just figured I’d throw things out there…
The problem is happening because the devs are too lazy to fix a game-breaking bug that has existed since the dungeon was created. There is no way to fix Deltha aside from killing her, and even that doesn’t work 100% of the time anymore. Many people believe it is due to the mobs in front of the boss area, and that killing them before entering will prevent her from glitching.
You have to lead mobs to her, let her die.
And revive her. This is just how you remedy the bug for now.
Sadly, while this worked 100% of the time pre-patch, this only works about half the time post-patch. Too often, she perma-glitches, which is why I don’t even bother with P2 anymore.
I use a Naga Razr mouse, and everything is mapped on the mouse. It was really, really hard to get used to in the beginning, but now I’ve so fast with it I impress even myself sometimes.
The first day of the Laurel patch, the server was crashing over and over again. There were a few lucky people who had 4/5 of their dailies done, and during their few mins they could stay connected in the game, completed the 5th and got the laurel. After the server booted them, they’d log back in to find their daily reset back to 4/5, but they still had their laurel. They just kept logging in and completing the daily over and over until the new build was released.
Not sure if that’s what happened with you, but that’s how a lot of people got more than they should have.
The thing I liked about AC before the patch is that you had three paths which you could earn tokens and money from. The tokens could be turned into exotic gear which could be salvaged for ectos or thrown into the mystic toilet for exos you could sell. The runs were decently fast – with a good team you could do all three in about 45mins. I also didn’t mind when I got lower level and inexperienced party members as it was a lot easier to carry them through the fights. And because there were three different paths, there was a bit of variety.
Now, it’s not nearly as fast as it once was. I liked stopping to kill the Troll, but now, if the troll spawns, I literally always let out an annoyed “UGH!” because it’s such a crap mob. It’s not even difficult, but it can eat 5+ mins of your time just because all it does is cast interrupts every 2 seconds. Troll aside, there are WAY too many glitches now, too. Deltha seems to get stuck more than even, and you can’t count on Grast for anything.
While CoF Path 1 is quicker, it gets really old really fast, and with the wrong team, you can spend just as long on the final boss as you did on the rest of the dungeon. And AC doesn’t lock itself down every few minutes forcing you to do annoying event chains or guesting on servers just to start the stupid thing.

When you’re out in the open wold, or wherever, how can I see the stats of the other players running around. I can click on them and see what their down-rated level is and whichever buffs they’ve got on them, but I can’t see their achievement points and actual character level.
Is there a way to see this? If not, that seems like a pretty massive hole. It would be nice to see if the guy who just invited me to a party is of similar level and experience before accepting.
Actually, when you say no noobs, you’re saying that your time is more important to you and your teammates than the noob’s learning experience. I dunno about you guys, but dungeons have devolved into a “get as much gold/tokens as possible in a short period of time” gaming style. Noobs are counter-productive.
Having to stop DPS’ing to revive someone who isn’t experienced enough to get out of massive AoE circles gets old. Watching them run from enemies once they take aggro and wind up kiting the mob out of your combos gets old. Waiting for them to catch up to your group as you quickly wind your way through the dungeons gets old.
It’s got nothing to do with getting carried, and mostly to do with how much time you want to spend. Some days, when I’m feeling in a particularly generous mood, I’ll specifically join <80 groups to teach them, but most of the time, I just want fast cash.
I play the more popular dungeons, but I never have to wait more than 5mins to get a full group going through gw2lfg.com
Buff? What is this buff you speak of? I think I can speak on behalf of ANet when I say “Buff” is not in our vocabulary.
Now if you want a nerf, just let them know!
How do people tell they are partied with a bot?
I agree the utility infusions are nice, albeit I think those were a little over-priced as well (20 days). At least those have a substantive, measurable benefit. But going back to the guy who said “wait till you can infuse everything”: 12 × 4 = 48. That’s nothing to get excited over… And it doesn’t invalidate the fact that those 48 stats cost you almost 1,000% more than the rest of your gear, or roughly two whole months.
I’m certainly no elitist, but Rangers are possibly the worst class in the game, and therefore they are the last class I want to see in my dungeon group. I’d never kick one out unless they proved to be a real moron, but I never look forward to the experience a Ranger will bring, and here’s why:
1. Pets are worthless thanks to the dismal AI. All they do is break up nice AoE grouping and drag distant mobs into encounters you aren’t ready for.
2. Extremely low DPS. Since the pets are too stupid to do any damage, you’re left with the Ranger’s single-target, low damage attacks.
3. Knock backs. You’ve all been in that group where you’re in the middle of a combo and the Ranger knocks your target back 100m.
There are definitely some decent Ranger’s out there who could make me eat my words, but unfortunately, they are few and far between, and as a result, that is my opinion.
Because +5 for now leaves room for the power creep later on. That’s why.
Actually thinking about it, Thats probably going to be the next set of ascended gear.
Ascended infusions. Armor is likely going to take a while as its probably going to be a new model. 1 set of armor is 1light 1med 1heavy x5 races x2 genders. A lot more work then something without any model at all.+10 AR +20 Power +1crit dmg or something while being a nightmare to make.
This kind of all goes back to my point of the current infusions being WAY too expensive. I can understand an infusion with, say, +20 of a stat costing 5 laurels (or 5 days worth of game play), but what would a +20 cost if the +4 remained at 5? An entire month of game play?? Screw that.
Don’t forget that you can also get +5 stat infusions that ALSO add +5 AR.
And the only way you’ll even know they exist is by looking on the wiki!
Yeah, we covered that topic in the original post, but you make a good point about the fact that you’d never even know they were there. Either way, though, it’s about 25g and a bunch of skill points to make one, so they are entirely over-priced as well. AR is a must have for the high-level fractal runner, but outside of fractals, AR is completely worthless, so that price is for a whole +5…
+4 to a stat… really?? 5 laurels… REALLY?! Per stat, that makes infusions 925% more expensive than the accessories! Every time I try and understand the thought process behind the pricing of these, my mind reels at the utter stupidity of it…
Sure, I could go pay 25g and a bunch of skill points to get a fine infusion with some AR, but I couldn’t care less about Fractals, so we’re at the same dilemma of paying a ridiculous amount of currency for something with practically no measurable effect.
Either way you look at it, it’s a good week’s worth of grinding for the somewhat casual player… for +4 of a stat! Am I taking crazy pills, or do you guys agree that is just insane?
Such is the nature of PUGs. If you value your own gaming experience above that of the four other people you’ve partied with, then make your own group and make it clear from the beginning you want to take it slow. Most people are in it for the tokens, money, and possible drops and couldn’t care less about the “experience” after having beaten the path for the 100th time.
Maybe a dev can respond? I’m sure the answer isn’t a difficult one…
Rangers are the worst on the knockbacks. Bow rangers are so incredibly boring to play, most people just cycle through their skills as they come available, regardless of the skill’s actual use, and the bow knockback is ridiculous. I wont lie, after the second time it happens in the middle of a combo, I rage.
Is the amount of experience, gold, and karma the same for completing every dungeon, or do some dungeons award more than others?
I tried out a combo of two monk and water runes and two beryl orbs. Strangely enough, I seem to be surviving better than having 5 Soldier runes and a Soldier crest. Probably has a lot to do with the increased protection and regeneration duration, as I swap attunement like crazy.
I definitely like this setup more than the Soldier setup, but I still feel a little lacking in DPS. I spend another week running dungeons to see if I can’t dial back getting downed a little more, and if I can, I think I swap the Beryls for Rubies.
Where do you get Embellished orbs? I can’t find anything in the Wiki about them.
