As a former community manager for Kabam games, I’ll tell you right now that this guy only knows half of what is actually going on. Directors and producers don’t tell community managers anything because like this guy, he posts only part of the information online and causes a ****-storm. So, take what he says a grain of salt. All we know, now, is that we will be able to switch MF gear to another kind of gear. We don’t know anything beyond that.
- Celestial will stay as it is minus the MF bonus on it.
- MF food will work as it is working now.
- Utility Infusion will still work.
Seriously?? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard. Gated content that takes 2 months to create and you’re just going to nerf its effectiveness? No, that is not acceptable. Increase the stats or add Boon duration.
Okay, then what about Celestial gear? I sure as hell don’t want to change all the work I put into my Celestial gear into some cheap, generic 3-stat armor. Are you going to improve the Celestial stats, or replace MF with a different stat?
Your solution to Champion Loot is diminishing returns? And people agree with this absurd mentality? What the hell was the problem that we needed such a stupid “solution”?
I don’t want to live on this planet anymore…
I don’t understand all these similar complaints. The +Karma and +Gold infusions still work as intended. Just because they don’t work as you want them, doesn’t mean you have a valid claim for a refund.
As for the +MF, that is something I’m sure Anet will address, since the whole system of Magic Find is changing.
You don’t understand them because you must be daft. “All these other people have similar complaints and I don’t get it! They must be wrong!” Take a step back and let that sink in.
As I mentioned earlier, this is the kind of complacency that ruins products. They progressively get worse, and because there’s a group of boisterous and wilfully ignorant users, it becomes self perpetuating.
Again, the fact remains that people bought these things because how they worked at the time, and if they knew they would be <10% of their originally effectiveness, they would not have bought them. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?
I don’t normally confuse my fingers and my sausages, I like to keep those seperate, but the new mechanical mobs drop like 70c each… That is a ton of money. Besides, no matter how much they nerf utility infusions they are still going to be better than 5 points towards 1 stat. These are relatively new changes, and why should they base the whole game around 3 infusions they made early on?… they shouldn’t…
I think the utility infusions are similar to magic find and they are taking valuable stats that could help your group as a whole, and replacing them with stats that promote selfish play.
Here is a straw, suck it up!!!!!!!!! :o
20% of 70c is 14c. You’d have to kill 60 of them to even make up for ONE run of AC. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that these clockwork mobs are TEMPORARY CONTENT, either.
It’s this kind of narrow-minded thinking that put us into this situation. Someone pinches out a terd of an idea, and instead of going through all the failure modes, they just congratulate themselves and move on. And I never said anything about the “entire game” – this topic is clearly about Utility Infusions.
And don’t even get me started on the absurd wave of Guild Wars socialism of “selfish gameplay”… Removing stats from a game because they MIGHT impact one meta aspect of the game is one of the most mentally-handicapped things I’ve ever heard of and had the displeasure of witnessing. “I don’t want to play with MF users, so no one should have MF.” The real selfish people in this game are the ones with the “My way or no way” mentality. Hypocrisy at (censor break) its finest. What a joke.

Okay, with all the recent and upcoming changes, is there even a point to Utility Infusions anymore?
With each new patch and announcement, another Utility infusion bites the dust. The first announcement was that gear-related MF is going away, making the 20 laurels you spent on that infusion a complete waste (once it rolls out at least). The next was the changes to Boss drops in dungeons, rendering the Gilded infusion next to worthless. Another 20 laurels flushed down the toilet. Now they plan on getting rid of the bonus on Karma consumables, making that infusion next to useless as well. At least that one you only wasted 10 laurels. What’s that leave us with – Experience infusion? Ugh…
Now before some of you clinical contrarians start mashing those fat sausages you call fingers against your keyboard in order to desperately defend your brand loyalty by pointing out some of the infusions still have some effect, just stop there. The irrefutable fact is that 90% of their usefulness has been taken away, and that. Is. Not. Acceptable. You don’t go and make people spend ridiculous amounts of gated currency on items which lose their effectiveness over a dismally short period of time. If the infusions said “They’ll work like this for three months, then hardly work at all afterward”, people would have ignored the Utility items and just stuck with the Offensive/Defensive versions, instead.
ANet needs to stop undermining their own content. And people need to stop being so complacent about these ridiculously unneeded, arbitrary, and horrible changes. We spent MONTHS obtaining our Utility Amulets and decking them out with what was once useful infusions just to have Anet rip the rug from right beneath us and shrug it off without even an apology. And what do we get for it? Nothing.
Make it female and call her “Annette Nerfbatter”.
1. Gated content
2. Diminishing Returns
3. Over-filled loot tables
4. RNG Boxes
5. Contradictory mechanics
6. “Play your way” facade
7. Shallow skills/trait system
8. Class favoritism
9. Failure of a DoT system
10. Constant nerfs.
If you do the math, full Celestial in the hands of a good player is better than a lot of the mix and match. The 2400 attack and armor doesn’t look that inspiring on the surface, but if you’re worth your weight as an Ele, you’ll be in perma-Fury and perma-Might(25), and that significantly boosts your DPS.
You should be sitting around 70%-75% Crit Chance and 90%-100% Crit Damage, depending on what Upgrade Components you decided on throughout your gear. That allows you those beautiful 10k+ hits AND you get the benefit of good HP, Condition damage, and Healing.
Seriously – people are complaining about the #1 most useful EA skill?
Fire roll: Trash.
Air roll: Trash.
Earth Roll: Good only for Area Might.
Water roll: Literally life saving.
The water roll is so good, they nerfed it in PvP, so that should tell you something right there. I swear, I have to shake my head at more and more topics these days…
It amazes me the extent people are willing to go to play dumb in order to argue an unpopular opinion. I’m assuming they’re playing dumb, at least. I mean, people can’t be that ignorant to the popular opinion; they’re just ignoring it make bad points, right?
I dunno, I guess I don’t spend enough time online to have to resort to trying to win debates with using strawman arguments in attempts to fuel my narcissism, so I just don’t get it…
I fail to see how not supporting a refund for an item that is reduced in effectiveness is narrow minded. Did I ask for a refund on all my rabid gear when they nerfed mesmer confusion into the ground? I paid for it, it is still effective, just not nearly as effective as before. Did not cost me laurels, but the point is the same. They have no incentive to give you anything.
Gold, historically, has not been gated, whereas Laurels are. There is a finite number of laurels anyone could have earned from their release to today, and significantly reducing or removing their effect is a major setback. Between an amulet and an infusion, you’ve wasted over a month of gated currency, whereas 20g for a rabid set can be casually earned in a day or two.
You represent a very small minority of people who farm dungeons for gold in a game where gold has nearly no value or meaning whatsoever. Congratulations on convincing ANET to refund your laurels if you can though.
LOL, if that were true, then what’s with all the “COF FARMERS ARE RUINING THE LEGENDARY MARKETS BOO FREAKIN HOO” whiners that caused the change in the first place. Do you really believe that, or are you just arguing to hear yourself argue at this point?
For the record, I hate gating, but this has nothing to do with gating. This has to do with a stupid idea (gold and magic find), and it now leaving the game in essence. At least I won’t have to argue with people about if it is right or wrong to sandbag your team with full magic find gear on anymore.
It has EVERYTHING to do with gating. Laurels are gated, and now coin drops from champs and dungeons are gated. You get one drop per day PER ACCOUNT, how is that not gated?
After wasting 20g on Celestial in efforts to better match my radiant skins, you’re better off with white. You can preview the dye by right-clicking it in the TP, but what you see in the preview window isn’t even close to what you’ll see in-game. People like to defend it with excuses of ambient lighting, but it’s so far off-base even in the most well lit areas, it’s not even worth considering at this point. Save yourself the coin and just go with white.
Honestly I can’t imagine you folks that got this infusion could have thought the COF fun-money train was going to last forever? It hung around far longer than I expected by a good margin.
Yeah it is kind of annoying if you spent the money on the infusion, only to now find it less effective in the dungeon, but most dungeon mobs can and do drop silver. Since you apparently only play for the purposes of farming, none of the other infusions will appeal to you even after the changes anyways, so stick it out.
It is a good thing they are moving away from chain farming one dungeon path. It is a great thing they are moving away from magic find on gear. This is such a minor gripe about an overwhelmingly positive change.
CoF had nothing to do with my purchase of it. In fact, CoF is one of the least beneficial dungeons for it. Dungeons like AC or SE with two mini-bosses were FAR more valuable, netting you 25% more guaranteed coin drops than CoF (with Omnoms). Granted, you can’t run them as fast, but they are far more interesting and required less runs than CoF to get the same amount of coin, so it was the obvious choice for more sophisticated players.
But as long as there are narrow minded, complacent consumers with blinders strapped to their face willing to defend half-baked, terrible ideas, we’re going to keep getting them. Pat yourself on the back for turning “Guild Wars” into “Gated Snores”.
People purchased the item specifically for dungeons. If dungeon mini bosses didn’t drop 10s and main bosses didn’t drop 20s, no one would have ever bought it. It would have been viewed as the waste of 20 laurels that it is turning into.
What makes matters worse is now that the two utility infusions will be completely worthless, the Utility amulet is complete waste. So, you wasted 40-50 days of gated farming on items that will no longer work as originally intended.
No one asked for these half-baked, terrible changes. CoF farming and MF leeches are problems for some people, sure, but these “solutions” negatively impact more people than not. So, yeah, they need to compensate players.
Umm… for those who are suggesting it, condition stacks already are prioritized by who does the most damage. I have a full condition duration/condition damage/toughness earth elementalist build and my bleed stacks override anybodys I come across. It’s been that way since launch.
Conditions are based on a rolling 25 stack. The first one applied is the first one dropped once it meets its cap. If you stacked 25 bleed, and someone comes through and stacks 10 poison, your first 10 stacks of bleed are gone. It’s been like THAT since the beginning of the game, and the whole point of this topic.
As I am also a software engineer hear out this possibility. To prevent user lag, all conditions are managed on the server but reporting continuously to the client every detail regarding the conditions of the object the user has targeted. Therefore for each condition stack on the targeted mob you are sending back to the client a full detailed object for every single server tick.
While this seems like a wonderfully accurate system it requires sending multiple extra objects of data to to the user every millisecond which if left uncapped could add up to ridiculous amounts.
Imagine if you got to 500 bleed stacks on a boss, depending on the size of the condition objects they use and how they are serialized we could be talking a ton of bandwidth use purely for those conditions.
Now if this is expanded to sending complete details for every entity in the viewable area that could get astronomical.
As I said, they packets are already being sent and received, even if most of them aren’t doing anything. There would be nothing changing in terms of bandwidth if we just raised the effective cap on CD, save some relatively small amounts of extra metadata. The only change is on how many calculations the server has to perform, and that shouldn’t be the user’s burden.
Okay, as a software engineer, I’ll give you my two cents on this. You can take this for what you will, but it is definitely more than ignorant conjecture since this is what I’ve been doing as a career for the last 15 years of my life.
The bandwidth has NOTHING to do with this. The conditions are still being sent to and processed by the server, and the server is sending the output back to the clients. Literally nothing is lost in packet exchange as you can see based on the fact that all the player-applied conditions show on enemies, even if they don’t all apply.
The issue is supposedly the CPUs aren’t strong enough to continuously calculate all the incoming conditions. To this, I call BULL****! My development SQL server, which is over 7 years old and about 10 times slower than my production server, has no problem calculating millions of transactions per second. And if it started slowing down, I’d just add another rack to it. Racks are cheap as dirt, and they could easily triple their performance for the cost of just one of these temp-content dev’s annual salary.
The issue is that they just don’t care enough to do so. They don’t care that their stinginess is undermining one of the most core components of their game and literally makes certain builds/professions completely useless. They care about the bottom dollar. It’s as simple as that.
“Your experience is worth less to us than the cost of better CPUs. Deal with it, aholes.” -Classic ANet
Don’t get your hopes up for a refund on “+% gold” items. Even though they are changing the dungeon reward system, the “bonus” gold boosts still apply to drops throughout the game. The items are advertised as “+% gold from monsters” not “+% gold from dungeons”. They will still work as advertised.
Consumer complacency at it’s finest. As long as there are brain dead users (not talking about you) out there willing to defend kitten “solutions” like one-time payouts, we can guarantee they will remain the status quo.
People got their Gilded Infusions and crafted/bought their Omnom Bars PURELY for dungeons. Trash mobs scattered throughout the game drop so little coin, the attribute is next to worthless. The only real value came from the dungeon mini-bosses (10s) and main-bosses (20s).
Hell, they could still implement their one-time payouts and just have it drop from the boss instead of being packaged in a chest and the attribute would retain its value, but it was far easier to copy and paste existing World Boss reward code than it would have been to code something specifically for dungeons. As a software engineer, this type of laziness is inexcusable. You don’t adversely impact your users and undermine a highly used component of the game just because you don’t feel like doing more work. How that idea even got past the FMEA model is beyond me.
First, we still don’t if the gold/hour on dungeons will significantly drop.
Actually, that’s exactly what we know. Considering there’s a finite amount of gold you can earn per day, now, should make that quite plain. Hell, that’s pretty much the ONLY thing we know. smh
That sounds absolutely terrible. If you want to get from point A to point be so fast, just use a WP. Otherwise, 33% is just fine.
They need to change it to Boon Duration. That’s the only thing that makes any sense. There are no weapons or armor with Boon duration I can think of, and it would be a fantastic addition to boon-dependant professions and builds.
Vapor Form weak in WvW? You’re joking right?
Extremely weak. Unless you’re running a zerg or outside a door, going into Vapor Form is literally just delaying the inevitable. So you can dodge a finisher and scoot 20’ away? How inconvenient for the person who is just going to follow you and use his finisher again. ::smh::
The elementalists downed state is terrible. Vapor Form is next to useless in WvW/PvP, and Grasping Earth is an absolutely terrible channeled skill that takes so long to cool down and cast it might as well just be an empty slot for all the good it does anyone.
A hard core RPGer doesn’t know what a mule is? Joke topic, move along.
As long as there are spoiled, entitled, pretentious dumbkittens in this game, ANET is always going to pander to them. Right now, people care about what armor stats you bring to the party, but once that is solved for with the exclusion of MF, people are going to start complaining about what consumables you’re using. That said, you can bet that GF is going to get a nerf because too many people are going to complain about the guy who uses Omnom bars in their party.
Sorrow’s Furnace (US) player looking for an active guild to join.
I’m big into Dungeons, and I’m always down for Dragons and Temples. I’ve done a fair bit of WvW, and consider myself to be a pretty good player. I’m a mature, English-speaking gamer, and want to avoid children and foreign languages.
Hoping to find a guild that has a lot of people on throughout the day who want to actually do things.
(edited by Dresden.1736)
Just turn each MF slot in Boon Duration and I’ll be perfectly satisfied.
I seriously hope this is a joke topic.
I rarely use my MF set, but I did buy it, and now that it’s being rendered useless, I want a refund for it. I will not be okay if the item just retains the stat, but makes it inactive. I also want a refund for my Gilded infusion since they are removing that thing’s effectiveness as well.
One lingering question for me… since the Celestial gear is gated in the same way they are describing the new ascended stuff, will the Celestial gear be changed to Ascended stats? Seems like a bit of a slap in the face to require the same amount of effort (more if you consider the recipe drops are from RNG boxes) to make these as the new Ascended craftables, just to have them remain exotic and obsolete.
I know none of you know the answer, but opinions are welcome, of course. And if by some miraculous event the devs see this, please kindly provide us with a response.
There are plenty of “sandbox” games out there that you can truly play your way. MMORPG’s are and always will be full of strong restrictions and rules for the sake of the majority’s enjoyment. They are trying to minimize the path of least resistance that has been tunnel visioning one dungeon and spread people out to enjoy more content.
This is a good thing, unless you enjoy spending dozens of hours speed farming the same dungeon over and over.
I certainly don’t.
We are all in this for the extrinsic motivation. That’s essentially what the entirety of gaming, and especially MMOs are built upon. I agree the rewards in this game are greatly overjustified, but that’s the cost of “playing your way”. Now, the overjustification effect has no redeeming factors. It’s grind their way or stop playing.
That said, MF affects more than just the solo player, so it’s a different beast. You are giving up group friendly stats for self-only stats, which means the team pays the price for your own rewards. That can’t be lumped together with the farming in terms of “play your way”
You said yourself, if people want to play solo, they should be able to. Just because there are a handful of bad players who can’t hold their weight with MF gear in dungeons, all players everywhere should be punished? Grouping is entirely within your own control, as you can clearly see with circle-zerking CoF scrubs. If you’re so serous about someone’s gear in a dungeon, make them ping it. And if they are constantly weighing you down, boot them. Your minor inconveniences should not constitute a major inconvenience to everyone.
This game is just an ever evolving contradiction. They’ve always advertised this game as a game where you choose your pace and playstyle, but with each new announcement, it becomes more and more of a game they want you to play their way.
It amazes me how much effort they’ve put into preventing people from letting them farm. An over-aggressive diminishing returns system is one thing, but now they are even going so far as to drastically reduce any bonuses you have toward farming. Not only that, but new gear will now be gated not only by your reduced effectiveness at farming but also by the arbitrary time limits they’ve put on making new materials.
Is anyone else reminded of Bloomberg and his incessant nannying of the NY populace? Because some people are getting fat off fast food and soda, he changes laws to ban trans fats and large soft drinks at the cost of the enjoyment of responsible adults. Because some people think MF and CoF are ruining their enjoyment of the game, the coddlers decided to make them so bad, people no longer use them. What a joke.
I’m not sure which achivement box they came from, but I’ve got a slew of “PVP Forge” weapons and armor. They have no stat bonuses, so they seem next to useless.
Is there some sort of purpose to these? I don’t PvP, so I’m not sure if there is some sort of significance I’m missing, here, or what…
doesn’t read any of the other comments
I’ll tell you one impact it’ll have: It’ll give me a reason to get interested in the game again. I never bought into the “farmless facade” this game pretends to promise. At least when I’m leveling up, I’m being rewarded. Better stats, more equipment, more traits… Those are tangible, consistent rewards that keep people interested. Farming for skins is one of the quickest way to alienate the non-fanboys.
Seriously, why reward people who put the time and effort into a goal they are attempting to achieve? It’s so stupid! ANET should just limit the amount of gold and items a player can get in a day. That way, people who don’t invest as much of their time in the game can keep up with those who invest much of theirs. That’s only fair, right? After all, everyone should be equally entitled to the best items in the game.
Let’s make GW2 the first Communist MMORPG in the world!
If your party does it right, she doesn’t cast her AoE, which is the only threatening thing about her.
It’s not so much about making her easier – she’s so easy I can solo her on my Ele. The stacking is so it goes faster. If everyone stacks like they are supposed to from the beginning of the encounter, you’ll be done in no more than 1 min. Parties who fight the hatchings in batches, then the Queen usually take 5+ mins on it. For speed runs, it is essential.
(edited by Dresden.1736)
You joined an trashy elitist noob group without pure circle-zerking gear. Consider yourself lucky you aren’t lumped in with those scrubs.
I get that your armor and weapons have to be of the Berserker class (Power, Precision, Crit %), but what about traits, runes, sigils, trinkets, and jewels?
As much as I despise the elitism of this class, I finally got a precursor and realized I’m dismally far from turning it into a legendary. I’m going to be forced to farm CoF P1 for gold and skill points, and any group that isn’t a zerker farm group usually falls apart after the first run.
So, can anyone shed some light as to what is required to participate with these guys?
Thanks for the links, guys. This is helpful. Now, the waiting game……
Finally got a precursor, and I need to get some items from the karma merchant there. My server’s temple has been locked for weeks, and no one can be bothered to complete the chain with me. If someone’s is unlocked, I can just guest in and save the trouble.
Any of you have it unlocked? Thanks in advance!
Another great sword user? I think it’s a good weapon. Admittedly a lot of people do use it but that’s probably because they have high damage and can get really nice skins for them. What would you recommend?
Thanks for the tips, I’ll wait ’till 80 and invest in crafting
Don’t invest in crafting. It’s a complete and utter waste. You only save a couple of silver by crafting a weapon over buying it straight off the TP, and you’ll spend 15-20g just getting to a high enough crafting level to make something. Since most people don’t change their Lv80 exotic weapons all that often, you will never, ever meet your return on your investment.
Go run all three paths of the AC Explorable dungeon and you’ll be at Lv80. Then just go buy your weapon off the TP.
No one at Lv60 should ever be swapping to an alt. You were very right in booting his dumb kitten .
If the person played on an 80 throughout the dungeon and contributed more than their fair share, then I’m 100% okay with them swapping as long as they do it right. I prefer to level my alts through swapping as opposed to dumping 150g into crafting, and I’m happy to oblige other people who want to as long as they aren’t baggage.
Ah, another prime example of what is wrong with the world, today: complacency. People are willing to blindlessly defend the status quo simply because that’s the way it is, regardless of how things should be. With every breath of their pointless and tireless defense of the norm, the world gets that much worse. If only you could focus that determination back at the source where it belongs instead of at the people who have genuine suggestions and concerns.
I have hope that one day, you idiots will wake up and open your eyes to see how ridiculous your brand loyalty and contrary natures are. At least I know I’ll be long dead before your generation turns the world into a dystopia.
Yeah, that is pretty stupid that they don’t have a class filter on there. I usually resort to going to http://www.gw2db.com to see what’s out there in terms of the stat combo I want, then going to the TP and searching directly for the item. It’s an extra step, but still saves time over combing through 3x more items than you care to see.
Whoa, crazy, same post at the same time. twighlight zone theme
It’s not scheduled maintenance, and we didn’t even get a courtesy announcement on the announcement board. It’s been down for hours. When is it coming back up?
