Ok im gonna spectate this game… holy crap i cannot join cause its full, holy crap if i cannot join i cannot spectate.
Seriously gw1 observer ( introduced in 2006 ) is far better then this.
Get this criticism to improve your work.
They wouldn’t add spectator mode in a big tournament because people can tell there buddies what the other team is doing. As far as I know they are adding it for hotjoins, they are thinking about it for tournament games.
But yes 1 big tournament a day would be nice.
They can put a delay on it u know. I cant imagine a tournament without spectator mode.
Yes just 15 mins delay its fine.
It should be composed with unlimited team in my opinion
I think you should introduce a daily tournament on evening with special reward ( maybe more ladder points if you win there ) and also gems something like that.
Type here yours agreement guys
I dont call it elorating cause i dont know if the system use elo, ( seems not ).

This thread should be deleted just because symbolic choosen divinity ruins.
you don’t really need runes.
Yeah let’s everybody play without runes
This thread should be deleted just because symbolic choosen divinity ruins.
Since the release of the game, as you guys know, the meta is still the same and there are just 1 or 2 viable builds for every profession.
The game is getting boored of course, you can’t play differently from these " viable build " or you get stomped.
So, i suggest to buff all builds like the last patch buffing eng turrets ( which is sadly not enough buffed for be viable ) in order to have 5/6 viable builds per profession which means for example 5 × 5= 20 viable builds you can choose for a tourny team.
Instead of nerf classes just buff more traits/skills to increase the number of viable choosing builds.
I suggest Anet to follow my advice cause the game is getting boored, and i can’t see any other better suggestion like this.
I can’t see it. Still forest up. wtf is wrong with u sharp?
Why no map changed yet?
Why no random map yet?
If you are not be able to make a random map generator, why ur job is developing videogames? change it, NOW !
Gw1 had thousand and thousand people playing in every time of the day. Omg if i would be the director/chief of AN i would just fired everyone is working on pvp. You F A I L E D
Cause the pvp they have, missed so so so many things compared to gw1 so they are not able to understand.
Everyone agree with you ( except nubs players coming from wow )
Show points ! Nobody cares about position without points.
I dont have never seen any championsip ( F1, FOOTBAL, SOCCER, RUGBY,BASKETBALL) whithout points omg
Ok got it. Try to get an ETA if #2 is not coming in march.
I support this thread. That’s so imba not having random 1on1 map.
If devs would listen to players, their game would just have been the best mmo of the recent years
Hey, firstly I would like to start with saying, that I understand everyone has a lot of questions that they would like to see asked in SOTG, but sadly there is a time restriction which means there is only a certain amount of questions we can get through; so what I am going to purpose to you in this thread, is to put in three questions that you would like to see asked in SOTG, what I am going to do just before the live cast is tally up what topics have the most interest. I promise then that those questions will be asked.
I am going to start with the questions that I would like to ask.
1. Contents of the march patch.
2. Balancing the game for casuals.
3. Solo Que.Please refrain from writing large walls of text, if you have any additional comments you can leave them after the 3 initial questions, but please make sure that you keep that to a minimum as to make it easier on me when I have to tally those up.
Thank you.
Xeph i think you come from wow ( or any same other mmo without pvp ), so to be honest you might don’t know exactly what is a pvp mmorpg..
I come from gw1 and if i were you, i would ask these 3 questions:
1)Ladder rankings
Ladder ranking should be automated refreshed ( not written like qp leaderboards ) and ratings should be visible.
2)Custom arena
Custom arena are a must to make gw2 e-sport which means tournament hosted by sponsors with money prize.
3)New mode game
If the 1on1 rated tournaments are the competitive pvp part with points, the pvp community need aswell a new mode like HA in guild wars 1 wich allows players to get fun/competive in different way than win/lose points in a ladder.
So my advice i feel to tell you xeph is to be inspired by gw1 for your question in SOTG.
( ofc balance is important, but balance without these 3 points worth less than zero )
uppppppppppoppp
Messaging for devs. ( maybe sharp and others who comes from wow and not from gw1, maybe you shoud ask izzy)
Adding a new mode like HA in gw1 its one of the best idea for the future for your game.
People play games if they have reasons to play it. ( no reason atm )
One of these reasons are adding something like HA, adding fame per every round win, and a special prize for the winners of ha. Izzy knows very well that in 2005 2006 when u won an ha, a message like " guild/the team of xxxx" have won a battle in the ha" appeared for every ha win.. Thats was almost amazing, no mmorpg have this, no mmorpg have the pontentiality of gw2.
Please Do it Sharp&co
If the article is true, this software house should go bankrupcty for be punishment! Liars!
I agree. HoH needs to make a return. At some point they are going to have to realized that they failed hard on the sPvP and that it will NEVER be eSport. So they should stop using that term.

Ghostly Hero can be killed thus preventing enemies from turning their relic. He automatically resurrects every 2 minutes. Body Blocking is a part of Guild Wars 1. You are not allowed to move through an enemy.Round 5: Deathmatch

When time runs out, the team who’s Ghostly Hero owns the Altar wins the Match. If no Ghostly Hero owns the Alter when time exprires the team who’s ghost held the alter wins.Yes you could use your PvE Character in HoH. Yes you could use PvP Only Characters in HoH. No they did not have advantage over one another. Only their looks. When you won the Hall of Heroes an announcment was made Game Wide stating “Such and Such Guild has won the Hall of Heroes”. Yes you do get PvE Rewards for winning the Hall of Heroes.
Also think about how many people were playing this PvP mode. It was insane and there were thousands of people playing it at any give time. In Guild Wars 2 a few months after release they can’t even get together 8 teams consisting of 5 players each. They failed hard on PvP in Guild Wars 2. Guess that’s what happens when you make a PvE Focused game.
You just missed that in 2005 and 2006 ( when best players of the world was been playing gw1) there were more than 2 teams for each level. On first map there were 6 teams 1v1 1v1 1v1, and then a final battle 1v1v1. Mos of the times there were like this for every level.
Im an old 2005 gw1 player
Up waiting someone
Is the rating (stealth) already up?
(edited by Dsquaredcri.9421)
I dont like solo que cause no organization is not fun and not competitive.
Solo que like random arena in guild wars 1 is fine, but don’t use it for paid.
Ask the most important question of paid tournament. Why still mm allows 2 teams fight each other multiple time in a row?
The mm is cool but what about play 2 3 4 5 6 7 times in a row against the same team?
Im getting frustrated…
I don’t think 1 map per week is a good idea. Get random 4 maps tomorrow.. 1 map per week will fail for booring and lot’s of people will quit the game for sure.
GW1 mm with 1-12-2+3-3 etc was perfect.
This gw1 mm seems bad, you face always similar skilled people and if no similar people are queing you are forced to wait 5/10/20 mins to get similar skilled players coming to play.
At the moment this kind of mm is not so good, improve it.
After 4 feb the 1 team vs 1 team will still be playable?
I would really enjoy a 1 team vs 1 team with random 4 map, and maybe with Class selection locked when u press Submit.
What do you think?
Lol paid it’s a gemsgiving mode. Thats what different to free!
Paid game should be rewarded by gems but this new one isn’t rewarding gems.
The only reward you get is 1 qp.
I thought that paid is a sinonymous of gems reward oterwhise what is the “Paid” word meaning?
Do something about it please.
Thank you
I hope devs understand we are not really mad at them but that we are just sad that the game is not using it’s full potential. I for one, love this game and I spend a lot of time playing it. The game is already good, but now It’s time to make it perfect!!!!
I think the most important SPvP feature is a leaderbord with a guild rank based on guild vs guild battles. Way more important then a personal rank, because this game is based on teamplay. This is one of the things that made Guildwars 1 so succesfull, so why not do it again?
I am asking this too… why no guild ladder?
I have never been talking about REAL 1Player vs 1Player . Please understand that when i wrote 1v1 i meant to say 1 team vs 1 team but im too lazy to spell it out. I also pointed this out in the FIRST 5 LINES of my first post!
I can simply see no reason why Anet would force games to only start with 8 teams (4v4) instead of 2 Teams (1 team vs 1 team) It makes no sense and is a massive hinderance for any matchmaking system.
I would however enjoy 2v2 3v3 arena like wow.
1 team vs 1 team is just one of the best modes ever..
and 2 players vs 2 players or 3, you sayd right, it’s WOW. So go for it
Sorry, i don’t like your suggestion.
Anet is doing it right.
You are aware that matchmaking is simply impossible with the system that is currently in place and that Anet said specifically that rewards for 1v1 team tpvp are going to be smaller than the ones for 4v4 team tpvp. And not only that – in the coming “event” there will only be 1! Map being played which is Temple of the silent storm!
Hardly anyone plays paid now (with regard to playerbase) and its not going to get any better if matchmaking will even increase waiting times / will have no effect at all because there arent enough teams signing up in the 1st place for 4v4 team
I think the matchmaking they are gonna introduce soon is a must and well worked on.
I don t wanna always wait 45 mins for a tourney. So matchmaking is a must.
And the 1v1 2v2 3v3 you asked, ok, go play 1v1 with an ele bunker, can u kitten use your brain to understand that it’s just a brainless mode for a competitive mmorpg????
Moorpg like this are not made for solo play, but for team play!
You do not understand a s***
Sorry, i don’t like your suggestion.
Anet is doing it right.
@shakuras: 1on1 is on Temple of the silent storm.
Very closely february ?
Me and 90% of pvp players would quit the game if 1v1 2v2 feature is incoming.
I dont think 1v1 2v2 is an appropriate mode for a mmorpg..at least for a successful mmorpg.. We wouldn’t have fun with that.. It’s no sense!
There is no combo build combo class build work, strategy work.. stop asking those ridiculous questions..
like gw1 RA i assume
I hope not.. we just wanna play 1 single match. There is no sense to play it like RA on gw1 where u continue to play til u lose.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. We’re looking forward to the 1 team vs 1 team test coming up and seeing your feedback.
We plan to do other tests down the road, depending on how it goes. So that’ll be a great place for us to try some new ideas! And as I said, once we feel we have a strong core of “normal” conquest maps, I think it’s totally fine for us to branch off and try some other things that may not make it into tournament play.
A question about 1 team vs 1 team ( which we will really love ! )
Reading your stream on twitch here on reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/16rsh9/jan_17_dev_livestream_summary/ you said:
Working on a new 1 team vs 1 team version of our tournament system , will be paid tournament (but reduced the cost and reduced rewards). Winners stay in, losers kicked out to the lobby. (Current tournament system require 8 teams for a single tournament with 3 rounds so it is hard to get tournaments started at the moment)
What do you mean with " winners stay in, losers kicked out to the lobby" ?
I guess when the match is over, both team go back to lobby and both can press “play” for another new 1 team vs 1 team match..
After Colin Joahnson blog spot, i think its time to see an ETA for the incoming features.
Which one is planned for february? Which one for march? Which one are planned after march?
Its possible to share the ETA with us?
Oh darn, I’m such a tool.. there is a blogpost up … and OP actually properly linked it.
But yeah, I agree with you Defektive:
The Specator mode was announced even before launch and was to be expected, coming from it being a pretty big part of the first game’s competative scene
Ladders have also been announced before launch, and were in the first game as well as we can find a ladder written in rock in the sPvP lobby place
But as for the matchmaking – the feature really is to be expected to accompany ladder system and thus not really a novelty aswell…The blogpost doesn’t really fill me with hope for the competative scene though – the current payed tournament system hasn’t been mentioned and to be totally frank, only a change to an elo system and “team registry” – simmilar to other competative games – would really work in my opinion.
The last part is simply perfect!
Stop ask for 1v1 duels or 2v2. Go WOW if u wanna play this mode!
Anyway, we are still waiting other news from Mr. Jonathan Sharp
^Next week we’ll have more news.
How do you know?
So Jonathan, the week is almost over, do you have news?
You totally wrong. There is hot join for solo random q.
How could be a tournament competitive with random solo q?
The only solo q in gw1 was Random arena, this cotain the word “random” wich is also synonimous of hot join.
Play soccer with 11 random people, yea yours idea is pretty fun guys.
I repeat go———>FPSThanks for giving a perfect example of GW1 having a solo queue and GW2 lacking it. You basically proved your own point as false. You are telling people to go to FPS because PvP MMO’s dont need a solo queue, yet you give examples of one of the only successful PvP MMO’s and it HAD solo queue.
And it’s in no way a synonym for hotjoin. Heres a list of reasons why:
1) Hotjoin you CAN join with a team, you just have to switch team with the little plus above the enemy team, so they are “not” only solo queue players. GW1 Random arena had ALL solo queue players, which is why it worked.
2) GW1 Random arenas always had equal numbers of players on each team. There is no form of balance between teams in hotjoin, autobalance “tried” to balance but typically needs to trigger 2-3 times per match. This not only means most of each game is unbalanced, but the person unlucky enough to get autobalanced isn’t on the winning team anymore. This results in people playing hotjoin only to farm, and not to win, therefore teaching very little about how the game works.
3) In GW1 random arenas you had to build completely different just because it was 100% solo queue. You had to build well rounded to make sure you could work with any team you faced. This means typically very different specs than you would use in competitive matches.
4) Random arenas were a completely different game mode that was based around fighting and trying to kill without dying. It don’t mean a thing if you die in hotjoin. This discourages a competitive atmosphere.
Hotjoin is in no way a solo queue, furthermore in no way comparable to random arenas. Random arenas worked far better for PvP and team gameplay (even though you queued solo it was a mode that rewarded you for working with your team). Hotjoin encourages only farming and solo kills rather than rewarding teamwork and winning.
It’s quite funny that you are telling people to play FPS but saying hotjoin is a solo queue, when hotjoin is directly reminiscent of a typical non-competitive FPS game from the ground up, from rewards based upon kills to the autobalance. Name one other MMO that used autobalance? Name one COMPETITIVE game that used autobalance? Now if you liked, half the people on this forum can name 10+ FPS games that use autobalance.
A better suggestion would be for Hotjoin players to go to a FPS game. Because that’s the only common comparison for hotjoin, except FPS games won’t be forced in to conquest mode if you don’t want to…
You asked for a solo que and i replyed you why the game dont need this ( at least not right now)
GW1 has a solo q as random arena but the true pvp who made that game so succesfull is GVG ( and fun with ha ) they both are TEAM PLAYED. That’s why im right and you not
For those who ask an ETA, I think JS saying january won’t have any big update so prob february and march is our ETA.
I suppose this with optimism otherwise we are going out of time
He won’t ever say a date, because if he gave you an ETA and then missed it, you would never shut up about it. “Soon” is about as good as it gets.
It’s good they have priorities, if you work on everything at the same time what happens is nothing gets done.
I do agree though that sPvP is at best a beta of a game that might be finished one day. Adding a decent matchmaking and ladder system is a good start to finishing it, but they need to do a heck of a lot more than that.
At this point all of the interest from e-sport is gone, and you will never get that back. IMO they should just can sPvP altogether and focus on the far more entertaining and successful PvE and WvW game modes.
I dont think so.
If JS will implement custom arena, you have everything you need to have an esport tournament with money/prizes via unofficial sites/sponsor.
I’ll just come right out and say this, you guys know that GW2 PvP will never amount to anything big anymore right? The competitive interest of this game has been lost long ago when most organizations and sponsors took a look at how stale the current state of the game is – the addition of these features will only bring back/in a minimal amount of players (and mostly from the PvE GW2 community, not from new players).
Basically, esport features aren’t really needed anymore in a game that will never become an esport. Just being realistic, those of you in denial of this now will get a rude awakening later down the road. And as far as I know, ANet still has not admit that they shipped sPvP/tPvP as an unfinished product – and still until now it does not even have these basic features everyone expected to be available at launch.
So in a few words, you say this: People who wants play a competitive game should switch to another game.
beautiful perspective
