Fine. If it’s so doable, then help me bloody do it. Because I’m tired of this boss. He’s a bucket of country fried kitten.
Really, who designed this? This has to be one of the worst boss designs I’ve ever seen. “Let’s make a boss that endlessly spawns ranged, high damage adds. And then let’s make them come from all directions so that wall of reflection is useless. Yeah! Now we’ll add in some poison cones that every silver spider mob has which goes through reflects and can instagib lighter armored characters. And let’s count the boss as a structure so it can’t be crit! Hell yes!”
There’s a Kodan named Polymorph Tuna?
Well there might be if kodan become a playable race !
I’ve never seen a better argument for having Kodans playable.
Fixed it for you.
The focus has potential – it brings a lot of defensive skills and utilities. The nerf to Ride the Lightning has greatly reduced the effectiveness of the off-hand dagger as a mobility weapon, allowing the focus some room to catch up. The off-hand still feels as if it is in beta, however. While some of the skills feel strong and satisfying, the weapon suffers from the following problems:
Punishingly high cooldowns on skills that don’t really warrant them (Fire Shield, Gale, Freezing Gust).
Possibly the worst Fire Attunement skill selection available. Fire Shield is on a ridiculous cooldown for a self-only fire aura and Flame Wall is just not a very good skill in general – it’s okay for creating a fire field, and nothing more.
Offers the weakest aura of any Elementalist weapon.
An Elementalist wielding this off-hand over dagger has little, if any, burst damage.
Suggestions for Improvement
Through The Fire and The Flames (Fire Slot 5)
Place a fire wall at the target location that deals a large amount of initial damage + burning when a foe crosses it. Allies who cross the Fire Wall will gain a Fire Shield.
Combo field – Fire
Cooldown – 50 seconds
By combining Fire Wall and Fire Shield, a new skill is created that actually earns its long cooldown by providing a Fire Shield that can be shared without traits, a fire combo field, and a potential source of area denial and burst damage.
This also frees up room for………
Stop, Drop, and Roll (Fire Slot 4)
Places a debuff on the target foe that deals significant damage over time to them while applying brief Torment with each pulse. The foe can remove the debuff early by dodge rolling.
Cooldown – 20 seconds
With this new skill, the Elementalist gains a tool that equates to either a powerful free damage tool (PvE) or a skill that forces the target to choose between taking significant damage or blowing a dodge at an inopportune time. This can also help you finish fights against low endurance foes by discouraging fleeing or punishing it if they make that decision.
Freezing Gust
Pick 2:
Reduced cooldown to 20 seconds
Significantly increased damage.
Small area of effect.
Gale
Now pushes the target back and then knocks them down for 2 seconds (900 range).
Addition of a small cone push (but no knockdown) directly in front of the Elementalist (think Fire Grab).
With this change, Gale will synergize with the new Fire 5 skill and help the Ele (especially an S/F ele) keep foes away.

Vengance**** Plz.
Hilarious, considering the Vengance in the item’s name is a misspelling.
What if Series 2 legendaries were upgraded versions of unique Mystic Forge skins? The skin in question would constitute the precursor in the building process. Examples include:
Sword – Obsidian Flame
Precursor = Jormag’s Breath
Appearance and effects:
More visually impressive version of the ever-popular Black Dragon Sword from Guild Wars 1.
Black fire trails and slashing effects.
Grows larger with each kill, then dwindles back to normal size over time.
Focus – The Shifter
Precursor = Anomaly
Appearance and effects:
Like the Anomaly, it’s a orb that surrounds the user’s hand when wielded. It adapts its appearance based on the wielder:
Mesmer – A more visually impressive Anomaly. Gives aura effects to illusions. Pink energy from footsteps.
Necromancer – Green and black haze that swirls around the wielder’s hand. New particle effects. Leaves a hazy, green and black trail.
Elementalist – Changes based on attunement (swirling fire, water, lightning, or rocks). New particle effects on some focus skills. Leaves a trail based on attunement.
Axe – Hades
Precursor = Titan’s Vengeance
Appearance and effects:
As compared to Titan’s Vengeance, it’s larger, more intimidating, and double-bladed.
Banishes foes to the Underworld (engulfs them in flame while they scream) on killing blows.
Firey footsteps.
Explosive landings when falling damage is taken.

honestly you do arah with a pug group takes 1-3 hours and get 3g at the end? yeah i totally like that reward..I’ve already done it but wtf seriously not everyone can do the hard dungeons…Theres a reason why people did COF1 it gave good rewards and good money.
And you know how much that dungeon used to reward? 26 silver.
Did you mean Unsuspicious Rabbit?
(What’s up with this one?)

It’s in reference to this (the rabbit the OP is referring to).
I’m not sure if you’re serious or a troll but I’m going to side with the latter. 7/10 attempt. I got moderately upset.
On what grounds? I’ve said nothing that would provide evidence of trolling. I simply have a viewpoint that (I’m guessing) you disagree with.
And why shouldn’t I enjoy the rework to rewards? They encourage players to enjoy all content, rather than spam one easy, boring, and over-rewarding path of one dungeon.
The dungeon rewards rework just rewards my playstyle (that of trying to enjoy all dungeons and all parts of the game) so much more than the old one did. Instead of having to farm CoF1 or some other profitable path to make a sufficient profit, I can run any combination of paths that I want and feel rewarded for it. 1g 26s is a pretty impressive sum for simply doing one dungeon path one time, and there is plenty of time before each daily reset for any player (casual or hardcore) to run whichever path(s) they wish and then play any other content that strikes their fancy.
It’s just such a simple system that seems to work almost perfectly with the developer’s original concept for the game – “play it your way.”
This is lumping all land-based spears and greataxe skins into the polearms section. Orb is basically a floating, 2-handed focus that is either magical (to fit Ele, Guardian, Mesmer, and Necro) or technological (to fit Engineer) in nature.
Warrior – Torch, Polearm, Claws/Fists, Crossbow
Guardian – Axe, Warhorn, Longbow, Polearm, Orb, Crossbow
Ranger – Whip, Pistols, Rifle, (Martial) Staff, Claws/Fists, Polearm, Crossbow
Thief – Whip, Rifle, (Martial) Staff, Claws/Fists, Off-hand Sword, Crossbow
Engineer – Hammer, Mace, Torch, Longbow, Orb, Crossbow
Mesmer – Main-hand Pistol, Warhorn, Polearm, Whip, Daggers, Rifle, Orb
Necromancer – Pistols, Off-hand Axe, Rifle, Whip, Polearm, Claws/Fists, Orb, Crossbow
Elementalist – Swords, Torch, Pistols, Longbow and/or Shorbow, Polearm, Orb
Didnt play GW1 so not sure if the anniversary present is on par with those.
Mini will just go in bank never to be seen again, exp scroll i dont need as im lvl 80, booster maybe ok depending on what it boosts. They are on par with GW1 We just got minis or tunics in GW1. This is actually better as we get a booster and a Scroll of Experience.
You must be joking… In gw1 you had multiple minis, always at least 2 per year going way over 100k AND they were all sellable. Here you will be stuck with an acc bound mini (yet another one… as if we don’t have enough of these), a scroll LOL and a booster~~~~a booooooster haha
I dunno, what’s the joke? “Jungle Troll again?” “WTS Jungle Troll, will pay 500g for you to take it.” “WTS minis, need bank space back…”
Seriously, GW1 minis were useless unless they were the ones people wanted. And then most often it was undedicated only . . . also the ones most often going for 100K+ were bundled in collector’s editions, given as specific prizes, or were the goshdarn Mini Polar Bear.
There’s quite a lot of truth in this. The Guild Wars 1 mini system was really bad – all they did was clog up your bank and the dedicated/undedicated system only further convoluted things.
All GW2 minis really need is to require specific commands to send them to collectibles, rather than being lumped in the whole thing. An invis bag fixes it, but it’s still a nuisance.
No longer shall the Cursed Shore suffer the weight of the 10-commander zergs! No longer shall skills be lagged. No longer shall fire elementals spawn!
Destroy the cauldrons! RALLY! SLAY ANDARZBAD! The Tarnished Coast has freed itself from the Tyranny of the Farm! There is hope for you! Just fight!
lol why?there is nothing worth in CS.
You have a very skewed definition of wrong, in that case.
what exploits ? really enlighten me on what exploits were used in the old areas. When plinx was farmed there was no exploit happening at all, it was pure farming.
Plinx farming was fine in that respect, it wasn’t exploiting anything. But take a look at two much more recent updates to Orr. The Union Waypoint event at the Lyssa Temple and the champ giant event on the steps leading up to Arah. Both of these were exploited by intentionally not completing the event in order to keep waves of enemies spawning infinitely. The Arah giant event is actually one of the next steps in the event chain that is currently being exploited.
Good thing Anet had the sense to nerf those exploits as well. The sooner we can get rid of toxic forms of farming, the sooner more healthy farming methods can take over and be improved.
I wish Anet would ban the exploiters, instead of nerfing the whole event for everybody. Just the new account sales would pay for the people that review and ban the exploiters
How many of the exploiters do you think would honestly buy a new account? For many, it would probably be a final straw.
No, nerfing the event or reworking the reward handout in some way is actually the reasonable and safe solution here.
You know, with the anchorage event specifically, I don’t think it would take more than two people to destroy the cauldrons, being that the mobs are all focused on the rest of the zerg. I could be wrong. I’ve never bothered to try it. The zerg will be occupied with killing the champs though, you can bet on that. Take out the cauldrons, complete the event, take screenshots of their comments and report for harassment when they get out of hand.
The problem is that the end champ scales up based on the number of players there – and there will be a LOT of players there. It would take a significant number of players to “grief” the zerg.
And griefing the zerg for the sake of griefing the zerg is not good behavior either. For a more simple moral example, look at the Queensdale champ farm. There are three basic types of players:
1) The zerg farming champions. These include non-toxic players who are just looking for rewards and won’t harass “ninjas” and toxic players who will give any “ninjas” hell for stealing one or more champions.
2) The players who “ninja” champions just to play the game because they had the people there and wanted to kill a champion. No harm was meant to the zerg, but the zerg will probably insult them anyway.
3) The players who go out of their way to “ninja” champions just to inconvenience the zerg. They’re every bit as toxic as the zerg that will no doubt harass them for it.
It’s a tricky situation. I can’t ever approve of deliberately trolling another group of players just because they’re participating in an activity that you find distasteful, but at the same time, if you just wanted to complete the event just to complete the event, you don’t deserve to be flamed for it.

Isn’t it in the ANET/NCsoft ToS that anyone caught or reported for exploiting and confirmed by a dev grounds for an immediate ban whether it be temp. or perm.? If so, then, why has absolutely no-one been banned for this act of total disregard for legitimate players AND ANETs rules been totally ignored? IMHO ANET should just throw all the rules in the trash and allow everyone to do ANYTHING they want to any degree they want, it’s only fair. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
Because its not an exploit, granted, the rewards are a bit rediculous and nerf-worthy at the moment. Events were designed to scale to the amount of players involved in them. Events were designed to be failable. Events were designed to re-trigger after a certain amount of time after failing. Using intended ingame mechanics to your advantage isn’t exploiting (stop using this word to describe anything that might, has, or should get nerfed).
OK, fair enough, replace exploit with not as intended. Same difference.
Eh, they are not as bad as toxic players like you that report everything for no reason. Exploits are when you get insane unfair advantages aka karma weapon for 300 karma or snowflakes giving craploads of ecto. Champion provide 1 chest that is RNG with 4s in it.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but, the only thing I have reported are a handful of gold sellers and botters, I have never made zerg farming reports only observations, I myself am a solo open world farmer(never staying in one region for more than 2 hours max). Next.
Well the way you answered in your first post you actually seemed like you wanted arenaet to ban people for failing those events. Personally I’ve never been there, but even then it wouldn’t be fair because you cannot judge who does what. Some there might be following a commander or just someone unflagged, so how do you ban and for what reason? It’s not exactly ’’fair’’ to ban a guy for following a zerg and farming champions UNLESS farming itself becomes bannable, but then again that would be stupid.
I do want this, examples must be set and have you not heard the saying “ignorance of the law(or in this case, the ToS) is not an excuse”. Next.
Then you are either ignorant or just naive if you think it’s easy. You are basically saying ‘’ban players even if they are innocent.’’ I asked once again, who do you blame for letting the events fail? the leader or the sheep? the leader might not be trying because he might be scared others will curse/insult him, while the sheep won’t do it for the same reason.
I blame both, as I said before, have you not heard the saying “ignorance of the law(or in this case, the ToS) is not an excuse”. People should read and be expected to adhere to the rules no matter how trivial they may seem to you. Next.
Ignorance is always an excuse, it doesnt mean it will always keep you from consequences.
This is ANet’s issue to solve, not the players. It’s ANet’s fault they missed this. Punishing people with a reward centric playstyle with bans for this is not acceptable. I bet there are people farming the area who have no idea it’s blocking anything, I didn’t even know about this farm until yesterday and didn’t know it was part of the arah chain until today.
You can’t punish people who are ignorant to this and also punish people who play the game for efficient rewards. Both set bad precedents.
Even if it didn’t set bad precedents, a mass ban would probably be a bad move on Anet’s part from a business and PR standpoint. It would only hurt the reputation with both the in-game community and onlookers. Bad PR just isn’t worth making a statement to your playerbase that won’t stick and won’t solve anything – 5 minutes later, they’ll find something else to exploit and nothing good will come of it all.
I find Thieves the least fun typically, as the initiative system encourages spamming your best moves over saving them for the proper situation. It just feels mindless.
Elementalist is probably the most fun, with Engineer and Necromancer as a close second and third.
At any rate, the discussion has been derailed. It’s up to Anet to decide whether the farming itself is exploitative enough to warrant a temporary ban for those involved (I’m personally leaning towards it not being ban-worthy), but the important factor is the event itself (and others like it) that reward failure and create toxic behavior.
While I do consider the situation to be an exploit, it doesn’t share the same characteristics as the exploits that were deemed ban-worthy in the past. Whereas the karma exploit and the snowflake exploit created something of value from almost nothing, there is actual play and effort involved in the process of exploiting this particular champ farm – it’s just effort in an entirely and deliberately wrong direction.
my mesmer in mixed armors
I like it. You had a clear theme you wanted to go with, and mixed a bunch of wildly different armor pieces to create something coherent and beautiful. Kind of like a feathery dancer’s attire.

Actually, that silver reward is random can go up to about 7s+ and they can be farmed at an extreme rate by deliberately failing this event. Hell, with a group that barely did any dps (in other words, missed the majority of champ kills), I made about 6g from the 3 runs I participated in with guildies. That’s roughly 2g per 10-15 minutes of actual playtime with a poor farming group. An optimal one could likely make 2-3 times that amount, and that’s NOT counting the potential to get lucky with the RNG chests and net an Entropy, Genesis, or other unique exotic.
And yes, there is a valid reason to report this situation (but not the players taking advantage of it, with the exception of flamers/verbal harassers). He’s not the toxic player – the ones throwing out insults, death threats, and reports at players who are trying to correctly do an event are the toxic players. Though you clearly haven’t the slightest bloody clue what does and doesn’t constitute bad player behavior.
There’s no reason to blame people for getting rewards as quickly as possible. If they found content compelling enough and rewards adequate enough then they’d do it.
There is no reason to harras people who like to complete events as intended .
No, there’s not. This is ANet’s issue to manage though. They missed seeing that this event would cause two conflicting playstyles to collide, rewards driven vs content driven. There’s nothing wrong with how people enjoy the game.
It’s their issue, but not their fault. In a game with hundreds, if not thousands of events, predicting this outcome in any one of them is too much to expect. Now, the fixing of said problem should have been more prompt than it has been. It’s been going on for days now, if I’m not mistaken.
Then again, Anet rarely seems to be fast on the uptake of anything that doesn’t involve nerfing Elementalists or nerfing legitimate farm locations.
Quite a simple solution, really. Once the event is failed, the champion vanishes. There goes your farm.
That wouldn’t hurt anything. It would cost them like 1-2 champs per run.
The reason why you see this happening is pretty simple: Arenanet nerfs to the ground every farming area in the game that is seen as profitable so the farmers are rushing to get as many rewards as possible before the nerfhammer hits. It’s not the farmers fault really, but rather the extreme nerf on the farming areas from anet that led to this behaviour. Before you had cof p1 to run, areas to farm and so on. Now, it’s all about the places where champs spawn the most to get as many chests as possible. When this gets nerfed, the zerg will move to the next most profitable thing and repeat the process.
Let’s be realistic – even if more legitimate farming locations had NOT been nerfed and this exploit came to be, the exploit would still become the dominant way of earning gold.
Do you honestly believe that people would choose pre-nerf Pen/Shelt over the ludicrous profits generated by this?
The first is my main, a male Elementalist named Prometheus Rook. I wanted his outfit to be a noble, sophisticated uniform with no robe or dress parts. To achieve this, I combined Phoenix Shoulders, Chest, and Boots with Aetherblade Leggings and CoF gloves.
His wife, Pandorra Rook, is a tribal beauty of a Mesmer. Her look combines a variety of cheap parts: Feathered Helm, Dry Bones Chest, Embroidered Gloves, Vigil leggings, and CM boots.
It’s ironic that most of the nerfed farming spots (such as Pen/Shelt) were nerfed into oblivion for rewarding based on intended mechanics (completion), while this Shank Anchorage farm has been going on without the immediate hotfix that it needs and deserves. It is, in my opinion, the single most toxic example of farming that has occurred in Guild Wars 2 to date.
1. Shank Anchorage Champ Farm rewards failure.
Massive zergs of players intentionally fail the mission over and over again to earn a profit.
2. It brings out the absolute worst in the community.
Anyone who attempts to do the event as intended (by, you know, actually DOING the event) will be harassed for hurting the profit of the zerg. Somehow, I sincerely doubt that this was in Anet’s (or anyone else’s) vision for the game.
3. It is exploitation of one of the most important dynamic events in the game.
Arah is permanently locked because of exploitation of the Shank Anchorage event. The farmers’ response to this? They will tell you to guest to another server, as if that excused their actions.
4. It is unhealthy for the economy.
The potential for profits is obscene. With a full dps group, the resulting profit can (and probably will) make pre-nerf CoF1 look like a joke. Unfortunately, just like CoF1, a large percentage of profits gained from this farm involves the introduction of new gold into the economy, rather than profits earned by trading. If the farm continues to exist in its current state, there will be lasting damage to the ingame economy.
5. Even the game itself dislikes it.
It literally breaks the game in that spot. It highlights all of the worst aspects of the current game engine and mechanics by culling out mobs and spells (getting instagibbed by an invisible AoE from an invisible Champion is always fun) and requiring full teams of berserker-only high dps characters just to get any significant amount of loot at all.
Basically, this event needs a hotfix.
It’s okay to nerf the rewards of this event into oblivion (temporarily) to solve the issue as quickly as possible, but DON’T leave it like this and DON’T leave it nerfed. After nerfing it, take the time to think out a more healthy rewards rework for this event chain and any other problematic event chains.
The easy solution would probably be to back-end the rewards more, placing more champions at the final Arah event, Defeat the Risen High Wizard and Secure the Promenade of the Gods. With no failure state, the potential for outright exploitation is considerably lower, making this event an ideal place to shift the income. People will be able to freely complete the dynamic events and open Arah WITHOUT being flamed by a veritable mob of toxic players.

Anyone got a build that works for Queen’s Gauntlet? Anything glassy seems to be really bad here – and the damage of the Ele is rather lacking, especially against Subject 7 if going for the achievement, so I can’t see tank builds really working either.
Most – Ele and Engineer. Tons of skills. Weaving together combinations of them is an art and feels awesome.
Least – Thief. SPAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
New Guild
Well, technically, we’ve been around for a while, securing some guild benefits and such, but recruiting is just starting.
Blackgate server
All-purposes
Recruiting members from all branches of the game (PvE, PvP, and WvW). We hope to enjoy the game for all that it’s worth.
Ascendants come from all backgrounds
Respect others in the guild and in the community regardless of their race, gender, religion (or lack thereof), and sexual orientation.
Currently a Guild Wars 2 only guild, but may (and probably will) expand to other games.
Does not require 100% rep.
We understand that the game’s systems encourage multi-guilding as an aspect of player freedom. As such, enjoy that right, but a certain level of representation and activity is expected. If other members notice that you’ve been gone for a long time or not-representing for weeks on end – then you clearly don’t wish to be a part of us.
If you’ve got real life circumstances (such as heavy work, college work, etc.), then we understand and any lack of activity may be overlooked.
We have a website.
http://ascendedones.guildlaunch.com/index.php?gid=333695
You’ll find a detailed list of rules and a detailed description of guild philosophies. Contains discussion forums for the game, the guild, and off-topic (gaming off-topic, non-gaming off-topic, and creative works).
Officers will eventually manage all branches of the game individually
We currently just have a leader (myself), but co-leaders, leaders for each branch (PvE, PvP, and WvW), and recruitment officers will eventually be selected to provide stable leadership for all activities.
We will have a facebook and voice chat.
The selected voice program will be based on member feedback, but choose one that is cost-free.

^Does the word “most” mean anything to you? Because yes, most of the negative threads are in regards to irrelevant issues. I didn’t say all of the bloody negative threads were irrelevant, just most.
There are definite, severe issues that detract from the game, such as those listed above. I’m not denying that. What I effectively stated is that a vast majority of the game’s detractors are an imbecilic crowd that claims that the sky is falling every time a new RNG skin is added to the gem store.

Got 2 new pics, my Warrior and my Thief has gone through a makeover
Warrior is using T3 Charr Helmet, CoE Chest and Shoulders, Priory Gloves, and HoM Legs and Boots. Dyes are Sage and Graphite, with Burnished Steel in areas that needed to be lighter to match properly
Thief has been changed to look like who she’s named after, with the rest of my Fire Emblem character copies. Using the Karma Duelist chest piece, Rawhide Gloves, Vigil Leggings, and Outlaw boots. Using Black, Antique Gold, Apricot, Grey, and Pottery dye
I love the Mia clone. Great FE character and pretty spot-on copy. The hair color seems a bit off though. Maybe something a little bit more blue as opposed to light purple would get it closer.
Skritt won’t even work as a playable race – their intelligence relies on being surrounded by other Skritt. In fact, the primary way young Skritt die is being separated from their peers and making dumb, suicidal moves as a result of their decreased intellect. This mechanic, unless retconned, ignored, or compensated for by making players control a small group of Skritt rather than a single one, ensures that the Skritt are doomed to remain a minor race.
Modern WoW has much less clunkly dungeon mechanics.
The Secret World has a much better story and occasionally atmosphere.
I do really love the story and characters of The Secret World. Arenanet (who can’t seem to figure out which characters the community actually LIKES in both Guild Wars games) could really learn a lesson from them in regards to that.
It’s a shame that TSW’s “no levels” system is a blatant lie (gear IS your level) and the gameplay and mob design are just really, really bad in general. The first couple areas are fun (and the college in the second area is REALLY fun and has Hayden Montag, the best character ever) and then you run into the Ak’ab and everything just goes downhill from there and when you think it can’t get any worse, you run into the desert and just want to kill yourself with how ugly and obnoxiously unfriendly it is towards solo players.
Here is my super-mainstream-abyss-celestial-greatsword-wielding mesmer complete with a matching weapon.
Oh, and the main reason I’m posting is because Piper’s screeny is in the same place XD
Abyss/Celestial/Black/White/Midnight Ice don’t make something mainstream, unless you’re using them to fit in. And from I see in your unique, mix-matched armor set (that looks really good), you’re not conforming to anything, but simply satisfying your personal tastes.
The only way to avoid conformity is to do something because you want to, not because other people are doing it or not doing it.
The best way to change conditions is to make them all stack based on duration, with each player getting their own unique stack.
Bleeding now does more damage the longer it lasts. Each person’s stack of bleeding does its damage on its own individual timer.
Burning remains as is, but each person gets their own stack.
Poison remains as is, but each person gets their own stack.
Confusion doesn’t really need to be changed, but could be reworked into a duration condition with reworked numbers.
Torment is fine as is, but could also be reworked into a duration condition with reworked numbers.
^Indeed. Mob tagging vs. mob sharing (mob sharing being my term for Guild Wars 2’s system) is, by itself, enough to rate Guild Wars 2 above almost every other game in the genre. I quit several MMOs just because of how poorly they handled mob tagging, and it is also the main reason I have decided not to play WildStar (unless it is f2p or b2p, and even that is a maybe).
Inb4 it becomes p2w.
Also, don’t forget the unique looting is something that I absolutely love about GW2. No longer do I have to worry about someone else picking up my loot. (I guess this fits in with Mob Sharing, though.)
Exactly. For someone like myself who has played WoW I would have a hard time getting back into it given the mob tagging and shared nodes/loot. I’d still be able to since I’ve played it before. Now for someone that has never played WoW and GW2 is their first game I think it would be really difficult for them to get into WoW if not impossible because of these quirks. That isn’t to mention constantly getting the message you have no target selected, target out of range, or target not in line of sight when you’re trying to attack something.
God, I hated that. It’s the reason I lost interest in Rift during its beta. Now that I’ve experienced better, I refuse to play any piece of crap game that uses that system – especially Runes of Magic, which had (and has?) embarassingly gamebreaking and frequent bugs with its aiming system. “No, I’m not too freaking far from the target, I’m literally right next to it.”

You asked for it. Dungeons, armor, reward vs. time, boss battles, raids, no gambling, expansions (which GW2 will most likely never have), you actually have to travel across a map to look at the beauty of the world instead of waypointing everywhere (traveling should’ve been a crucial aspect of GW2, instead they implemented the wp system. Worst decision ever.), Auction House balancing, detailed quests, LFG system, Raid system, and just better progression in general.
Keep in mind, you asked for that. I could go on, and on, but I think I’ll stick with that list of stuff.
WoW armor looks godawful – like the artwork of a failing art student in highschool. Even the worst Guild Wars 2 armor designs are better than a majority of WoW armors.
Raids are a subjective matter. Many people like raiding. Many people DON’T like raiding. It all depends on whether you prefer being an integral part of a 5 man team or an unimportant cog in a 40 man army who uses the same mindless rotation over and over and over again in an equally mindless journey for a chance at a drop that you will use to repeat the process in the next raid.
The presence or lack of gambling is irrelevant when the reward does not help you in any way, shape, or form. They’re cosmetics. So what if little Timmy didn’t get his Fused Greatsword because he didn’t win a lottery for it. His transmuted Jotun Greatsword is just as nice and has the exact same stats.
And the travel vs. waypoint system is a subjective point also. Frankly, I think your point on this aspect is utterly idiotic. I could waste time walking (or flying) from point A to point B, not because I want to, but because I HAVE to in WoW. I can save valuable time and waypoint from point A to point B in Guild Wars 2 to visit a location I WANT to see. If I want to, I can also CHOOSE to walk from point A to point B to take in the sights of Guild Wars 2’s environment, which, by the way, are infinitely more beautiful than any landscape in WoW.
WoW has detailed quests that next to no one reads. Most of the context laid out by these quests makes no sense within the events that are actually happening. “OH, THESE CENTAURS ARE ATTACKING ME!” No, they aren’t. They are standing in a field with their fingers buried halfway into their nasal cavities. Guild Wars 2 does not TELL you context, but rather SHOWS you context. Those centaurs are actually attacking. It’s the same thing, but with better storytelling. Any critic or successful author will tell you that “showing” context or characterization is better writing than “telling” your reader about it.
An LFG system is in the works for Guild Wars 2. When it is released, this point will no longer stand.
“Better progression” is subjective. There is a vertical progression crowd and a horizontal progression crowd. If you are a vertical supporter, this game was not designed for you and hopefully never will be. There are a million other MMOs out there that match your preference. Would you like me to show you to the door?
And as for expansions – expansions are nothing but sold additional content. So far, Guild Wars 2 has given players at least one expansion’s worth of content for free already, with no signs of stopping any time in the forseeable future. World of Warcraft SELLS you its expansions on top of charging you a subscription fee that is supposed to pay for content releases – in other words, they are charging you twice for the same product. If Guild Wars 2 releases an expansion, I’ll pay for it and enjoy it. If it doesn’t release one, then I’m not going to complain, because I’ve already received my expansion over time… and for free.
Try again.
WOW, aion, tera, GW1 soon to come wildstar
*EDIT** oh and Neverwinter as well thats pretty fun. thats like a GW2 done right with the trinity system
Pfft…. HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -runs out of breathe- BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Wait, you’re serious?
yes it sold more than GW2
I can understand WoW posts. But Neverwinter? Neverwinter was terrible. TERA offers nothing but combat, and Aion went down in history as a failure. WildStar isn’t even bloody out yet, and hasn’t released any information that would indicate it as being anything different or interesting.
Plus, sales mean nothing. Less than nothing, actually. Twilight has outsold nearly every novel out there – are you implying that Twilight is an amazing novel? Madden NFL and Call of Duty still top sales lists. Are you implying that they are among the best games on the market? Popularity =/= Quality.
Yet I randomly picked 10 friends and showed them both Guild Wars 2 and Aion. Guess which game all 10 picked to play? Hint: It wasn’t Guild Wars 2. Seven of those friends still play Aion, the other 3 play WoW. They didn’t even show a slight interest in trying out Guild Wars 2.
If sales mean nothing, then why is WoW still on the top? Oh, right. It sold a ton of games. People say it sucks all the time, yet sales say that WoW is fantastic, which it is.
Neverwinter wasn’t that bad. I’d still play it over GW2 any day if I wasn’t playing WoW. You’re opinion on Tera is spot on though. I found nothing interesting in that game but the combat.
The answer is that WoW is the best – traditional – MMORPG out there. Sales “say” that WoW is the best of the generic MMORPGs (Everquest 1 and 2 being the grandfather and great-grandfather). And that says nothing. Most MMORPGs are utter garbage and have been utter garbage for the last decade.
Neverwinter was bad because of poor, mostly-stationary combat, a bad cash shop, boring, linear map design, and having to deal with Perfect World Entertainment – one of the worst MMO publishers on the market in terms of customer service… and everything else. Basically, yes, it was that bad.
Aion’s aged well, especially with its movement into free to play, but it just isn’t great. It’s not special. It’s not interesting. It has its market – a market very similar to that of Rift (as in the market WoW would probably have if it went f2p), and it appeals to that. Your friends just happened to fall under that group – or maybe they just enjoyed the game thematically and wanted a gear-grinder.
And re-iterating on TERA. All Tera offers is combat, and it’s not even objectively better than Guild Wars 2 combat. Excessive self-rooting results in a combat system that may be better or worse than that of Guild Wars 2, based on one’s subjective opinion.
And as for comparing the sales figures of WoW to those of Guild Wars 2 – you’re comparing sales figures between a game as old as Guild Wars 1 (in other words, a game that is nearly a decade old) and has had ample time to both polish itself and dominate its market with the sales figures of a game that is less than a year old and hasn’t even released in China yet, much less the entire world. If you compare first-year sales figures, they are roughly equivalent.
Now what do the sales figures of Guild Wars 2 actually say – that it has already sold over 3 million copies (and this is an outdated number, mind you), and thus has outsold nearly every other MMORPG out there (and this is without a complete worldwide release) with the major exception being World of Warcraft, which has had years to secure its position and is steadily declining.
My Charr Ranger…. Has T3 chest mixed with a Little bit of Everything… The main reason why I chose this are two. No skirt/robe – charr have cool looking legs!! And this one have no clipping issues…. That leaves me with very few options for really good looking armour…
That looks amazing.
Have you stopped to consider that there are people who have already bought this armor because they enjoy how it looks? I did. I’d be extremely kitten ed off if the product I purchased was changed for the worse because of a few forum posts.
Why don’t you just request a new armor set rather than trying to change an existing one.
The OP’s post says nothing about changing the armor now, it just says that it is boring and a crime against male characters, which it is.
I’m extremely disappointed at it, and I don’t even have any male characters. It’s THAT bad.
No, it isn’t. The chest and shoulders are top-notch – definitely viable when mixed with other parts. The leggings, glove, and mask are the only parts that are seriously lacking (though I suppose that is half the set).

Sounds like a bard – and traditionally, bards are an adventuring lightly armored profession, haha.
Who cares what tradition is? The concept behind Guild Wars 2 is to contribute something new and unique to the genre. Professions are what their creators decide they are, afterall.
Backstory
About 250 years ago, Paragons were a staple of Elona’s military, often put into leadership positions for their naturally inspiring presence and motivational songs and shouts. Brought to Tyria by the Order of Whispers, traders, tourists, and immigrants, the organization has had to gradually rethink their philosophies from those of god-serving Paragons (which only appeal to humans) to a new train of thought that will motivate all races. They are now Skaalds who, rather than draw on divine power to influence others, motivate their brothers-and-sisters-in-arms with songs of valor and tales of glory. They are a proud, adventurous group that seeks to tell the tales of themselves and others and have gained quite a following among the Norn.
Profession Mechanic – Anthems
Skaalds cannot weapon swap, but their weapon set of choice has lower cooldowns than those of other (non-Thief) classes to make up for only having 5 weapon skills.
Additionally, Skaald weapon skills generate Notes upon usage. Notes do nothing until 3 notes are chained together, forming an Anthem. Anthems grant allies all 3 boons associated with the notes used to form them, while also producing a passive effect.
For example, Anthem of Courage is formed from a Mighty Note, Furious Note, and Retaliatory Note – granting Might, Fury, and Retaliation to yourself and nearby allies upon completion, as well as a special bonus – in Anthem of Courage’s case, it buffs the Power of all allies affected by x for the duration).
The order of notes does matter, however. More specifically, the first note chosen dictates the passive benefit of the song. Courage is started with the Might note, for example, whereas Ferocity (which grants extra crit chance) is started with Furious Note, and Vengeance is started with the Retaliatory Note.
The same note can be applied 3 times to grant that boon to allies for a long duration through a simple Anthem. Anthem of Might, for example, is exactly as the name implies. It grants 4 stacks of might (3 for the notes, 1 for the passive).

Initial Weapon Selection
(Each Two-handed weapon has 3 notes, which are of the same type. Main-hands contribute one note. Off-hands have 2 notes which are of different types. Types are offensive (Might, Fury, Retaliation), defensive (Protection, Regeneration, Aegis), and utility (Swiftness, Vigor, Stability). Thus, your choice of weapon set dictates which songs you can play. Greatsword has the offensive anthems set (Courage, Fury, and Vengeance), while Hammer has the defensive anthems, Longbow has the utility anthems, and main-hand/off-hand sets have more quirky, mixed-type anthems.)

Chords –
These produce two related notes at once while buffing allies with a contrasting boon that is completely unrelated to the notes produced.
- Example – Chord of Courage produces notes of Might and Fury while granting Protection to allies.
Shouts –
Skaald Shouts debuff foes, rounding out their support and offensive capabilities.
Tales –
Speeches (think Mantras from Mesmers) that produce effects (either beneficial for allies or harmful for foes) over the duration. These are not boons or conditions, but rather unique effects. They are not channeled and do not interrupt your actions. Instead, they occur as passive auras. Fittingly, they can be stopped by Silence. Only one Tale can be told at any given time.
Example – (Elite) Epic Tale – Nearby allies are motivated to gain +x to all stats for the duration of this Tale. You delight in telling it, recovering hp each second.
Instruments -
Give you an alternate weapon for the duration. These instruments have their own abilities and notes. Use them to add additional Anthem options to your weapon set of choice.
Example – Harp – Produces soothing notes (Regeneration, Vigor, and Stability) while boring foes to death through Cripple, Weakness, and Torment.
Logan is the suspect.
