@Jc hey your pet idea is essentially what my pet idea is xD.
I miss my SWG pet…. Oh how I miss you energy drain and healing removal….

Did anyone read my post? The leash range IE how far your pet can go away from you, was nerfed, how far we can send our pet via targeting them and hitting F1 has been INCREASED overall it’s a nerf, but now we can send our pet further by hitting F1 instead of them just sitting at our side going “Lawlz no”.
Keep in mind if you’re using GUARD (I’m looking at you WvW players) you can’t send your pet as far because pre patch it used to be you could send your pet X distance, now it’s you can send your pet X distance FROM YOU. IE: pre patch you could use guard to send your pet out further than you could if it were standing at your side, now you can not.

It makes it so that the huge 1200 radius ( I think that’s what it is) bubble of condi drawing is ALSO from around you, however you pull condis first and then your pet pulls them, so as long as you are within 1200 ( or w/e the radius is) of your pet your pet will end up with all the condis.
It makes that signet into what may be THE best condi removal in the game.
I’m fairly certain the radius is only 600. I wouldn’t necessarily call it the best condition removal in the game, but it has its merits I suppose.
Ok, yup you’re right 1200 diameter, and it removes ALL conditions from up to 10 allies (5 around your pet and 5 around you) is there another condi removal that can purge that many conditions?

My damage build on my ranger is 10/20/10/0/30, I fail to see how 0/20/20/0/30 would be a bad build, can you enlighten me oh wise one why this build is bad?

I don’t think thats fair, if the split were 80%/20% untraited, and they didn’t die in pve every 10s then maybe. Traited it should become 80%/40%
Shoulda specified traited xD, my bad.

1sec is put of combat ( doesn’t matter how injured), 20s in combat, 60s dead.
And the distance we can send our pet out used to be just over 1500 now it’s 2k, however pre patch our pet had no cap on how far he could run away from us once we sent him after the target IE, if they ran into range and we hit F1, the pet would follow them until it died, they died, we died, or we swapped it/called it back, now once the pet hits 2k range (the furthest we can send him out) it’ll wait there briefly and if the enemy is running away from us it’ll comeback
not entirely true. i tested this once, and the pet only followed till it was outside rendering distance/end of minimap, which at that time, was about 12000 range.
Still though, that’s kittening far.

Hey guys, you probably all know I love being a BM, but me and my guildies were discussing this topic a few nights ago and I thought I’d share.
The main thing that holds the ranger back in PvE is our pet, as much as I love it dealing so much damage, we get bonned because it just flat out doesn’t scale off of us. So why not just make them scale? Well for starters that’d make ranger pets lose a lot of their uniqueness IE tank cats and DPS bears (as much as I’d love that) and itd remove some customization from the rangers. iE you couldn’t be a tanky ranger with a DPS pet.
However that’s not our only problem, the real kicker is that ATM every other prof deals 100% damage, where a ranger does ~60% and their pet does ~40%, this would be fine and all, if our pets didn’t get shafted all the time. NO OTHER PROFESSION gets a utility and damage loss for not utilizing their mechanic properly. Sure they all take a hit, but it’s not nearly as drastic.
What I propose is that they make it so rangers deal ~90% damage, and they make it so a ranger deals anywhere from 110%-120% damage while their pet is up, this way the rangers pet becomes a scary thing the enemy wants to bring down. Not only that but the ranger also isn’t totally shafted if the pet does and can still fend for themselves.
What are your guys thoughts?
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
yeah Durzlla the 1sec outta combat makes sense. So what i imagine that changed is before i was technically out of combat, only sending in my pet to fight so the 1Sec change applied. Now when it goes in it considers you in combat also i’m guessing.
Yeah once your pet got to a certain distance pre patch you would go outta combat, so that’s probably what you’re noticing

The leash distance is 2k, that means its 500 further than your traited longbow, In other words its been buffed, you can actually send your pet FURTHER than before by using F1, on the downside your pet will no longer chase your target to the ends of the earth.
And the pets always had their full swap out time if you were in combat when you swapped, so nothing changed there…
As a matter of fact the ranger -is- really powerful, especially now that Companions Might has been buffed, using that your pet can deal more damage than it could before.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
No worries Synful, and the meta does it’s job for “max” DPS for lowest effort, that I agree with. (Max is in quotes because it -could- be higher, but it’s probably not by too much to really matter).
And Rampagers gear is amazing, especially if you pair it with a condi pet (I use lash tail devourer and a lynx) + sun spirit + companions might, the damage that can deal in PvP is ridiculously high, I’d assume it’d carry over quite well into PvE.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Btw, I’m not saying I’m some visionary, I’m just saying that the current meta is stupid and lacking in a ton of areas and it wouldn’t be all that difficult to find a more optimal method, especially if I had my friend make spread sheets for this thing, crazy math majors -_-’.
And if I’ve learned anything from PvPing it’s that teams where every build synergies together are significantly better than a bunch of builds that don’t synergies, which in all fairness the meta provides no synergy between the warriors so there’s tons of room, now finding out which is most optimal is the trick, but as other have said its not worth it to shave off a few seconds.

Upon testing if you have 5 rangers using 5 sun spirits and “forcing” the stack, you can not trigger the effect from multiple sun spirits, so spirit rangers, much like banner warriors, don’t play nicely with each other, however I didn’t do any testing with frost spirit because that’s not a very easy spirit to track whether or not it proced….
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Other cool thing about spirits: storm spirit can proc sun spirit! I wish I could test the frost spirt thing…no ICD…hmmm
All the spirits can proc all the other spirits because all their actives do damage even if the floaters say otherwise. Only way I found out about this was my sun spirit used his active and gained prot and swiftness and burned the enemy xD.
That and while PvPing I died to a spirit ranger (on my ele) and it said I took ~3k from Solar Flare.
I’ve also hit people with burning from sun spirit on all the other spirit actives, which is making spirits look a lot stronger to me.
Solar flare inflicts blindness only, no damage. The only spirit that has an active damage skill is the storm spirit, which is around 3k. Unfortunately, the passive for this spirit is also the most useless one :/
Uh, tell that to the death recap screen, just because the tooltip and damage floaters say nothing doesn’t mean it’s not there, a prime example of this is iZerker.
Not to mention you need damage to proc the effects, which I’ve seen all my spirits do time and time again.
PS: my storm spirit hits ~5k on a regular basis

The so-called dungeon “meta” right now seems to be based around taking a subpar composition (4 warriors 1 mesmer usually) that isn’t even capable of maxing out all the relevant buffs, and coming up with convoluted and inefficient ways to circumvent this deficiency, like trying to burst a boss down in a single Time Warp because you can’t maintain might or vulnerability for any longer than that. That works on some bosses but I see a lot of so-called “speed run” groups that are heavily kitten because they have almost no might or vulnerability and sometimes don’t even have fury.
I don’t see what you mean. If the Meta is subpar (as you have just said), then why can they clear CoF1 faster than any other composition, assuming equal gear and skill in the class(es) they play?
Maybe it’s because they (warriors) can throw out more damage than other classes. I mean, why else would they be in the meta, if not for that fact?
It’s because most people who could shatter the meta (like me) don’t even give a rats kitten about the PvE “meta” to begin with, oh boy, if I skip every kittening encounter in an instance I can get those worthless pixels faster, wooooooo. Or, I can do what Anet wanted, and clear it for FUN, which completely goes against the meta.

2) Warrior buffs don’t stack.
Warrior banners don’t stack. But warrior shouts do. Get 4 warriors, have each one bring a different banner, then have them each also bring “for great justice” and “on my mark”. See how that scenario compares to bringing one warrior and 3 rangers. Permanent fury, near 25 stacks of might, and 25 stacks of vulnerability.
A group of rangers cannot maintain permanent fury or stack might on allies. A group of rangers can maintain a decent level of vulnerability on a target through hunter’s shot and whirling defense, though whirling defense deals sub-par damage by itself, roots the ranger, and has a longer channel than hundred blades.
A single ranger can maintain perma fury by using warhorn and a red Moa, which means 2 rangers could maintain perma fury and swiftness, so idk what you’re talking about, that also allows the warrior to free up a utility slot and leaves the rangers totally free to choose what ever utilities they want, not to mention multiple rangers, with multiple healing springs could maintain perma vigor and condi cleanse and healing allowing for more DPS faceroll.
Btw why do people assume GS is our DPS weapon? Everyone knows our DPS weapon is Sword + Torch (or hell maybe even axe now) for max dmgz sure as hell not S/D, and then if you’re in zerker gear you’d wanna take companions might giving your pet super might stacks.
Rangers still cannot stack might on allies as effectively as a warrior. The sword may outdamage our greatsword, but have you ever tried to dodge while auto attacking? I know I know, “disable the auto attack and spam 1 manually.” It doesn’t do much to mitigate the problem if the attack you need to dodge happens to come down in the middle of the kick or the leap.
And yes, I overlooked the warhorn because it’s such a forgettable weapon.
5 rangers + 5 Melandru Stalkers = 25 might for everyone, and I literally mean EVERYONE…
And complaining about dodging with a sword is like complaining about having to manage your pet, it’s a Learn to Play problem, not a game play problem, I’m actually MORE survivable with that sword than I am at range due to all those evades so don’t even give me that BS. And warhorn is only forgettable because most people just wanna see big numbers, which the warhorn as a weapon doesn’t do, unless you’re a power build and use Hunters Call, then you’ll see a really big number at the end.

1) Even if the warrior is hitting 3-4k auto-attack swings, he isn’t hitting as many. Greatsword swings are slow (3 per 2.5s) while axe attacks are extremely backloaded. Moreover, he doesn’t have a pet. An exclusively axe or GS warrior deals comparable (in fact, slightly less) damage than a sword ranger, while a warrior using the weapon swap rotation deals very slightly more (about 5-10% more tops). That’s assuming you can Whirlwind against a wall and get the HB channel uninterrupted 100% of the time. Just HB by itself makes almost no difference at all, it’s only about 2-3% extra damage overall at best, if even that.
I’m sorry but this is just plain false. A equivalently specced melee warrior will far out-DPS a melee ranger, pet included, in a straight on fight where all hits land. And if you’re trying to make the point that not all warrior hits will land? Guess what. Neither will ours and definitely neither will our pet’s.
Please do us all a favour and go test out a warrior before you try to tell us that we do more damage than one again. Thanks.
In a straight DPS race, yes, it is virtually identical. Please use the total number over time accounting for skill recharges, not the biggest number you see at any given time. DPS stands for “damage per second”, not “biggest number I can make appear on my screen”.
I understand that ranger players in this game have some sort of martyr complex where they want to convince themselves that it is the class, rather than themselves, that is weak, but the game is actually quite well balanced, rangers included.
Honestly, who do you think is more likely to have examined the game’s class balance in-depth, the game’s own developers or a bunch of casual players who can’t even do math?
Gotta side with this, ranger attacks are all a lot faster than warrior ones, we also have a pet dealing damage…. and we tend to have shorter CDs

I think there needs to be passive abilities that works as follows
Skirmishers Prowl: (passive) for Every 5 seconds the ranger is moving without stopping they apply a +5% damage buff (stackable 3 times) on their target once 3 stacks are accumulated each shot has a 25% chance to apply a 1/4 sec cripple to target.
Marksmans Grit (Passive) every 3 seconds the ranger stands still (in combat) they recieve a 5% crit chance and 5% crit damage buff (stackable 5 times) Once stacks are accumulated Ranger has a 25% chance to knock down targets for 1 second.
I think a mechanic like this would give the rangers something of their own and add some much needed CC/buffs to the Bow skills.
In all fairness I think those proposals are way over the top on paper already. I feel that rangers are in a good place when 1vX is considered. If something I’d like to see some utilities added to the zerg side of things and the pet AI fixed but all in all I’m quite content with my ranger when www is considered.
That being said I liked your ‘beyond the box’ way of thinking and I’m all for some unique flavor. And no, pets acting like cretins won’t do for that
Actually, the marksmanship one would be ok so long as ANY movement clears ALL stacks, because it’s 15seconds of NO MOVEMENT, how often do you get to plant your feet? Not very, even at 1.5k range, I feel that’d be a nice grandmaster trait. Only change I’d make is make it so at 5 stacks you stun them 1s and apply 25vuln and some bleeding, but clearing all stacks, I mean c’mon they let you stand still for 15 seconds!
The skirmisher one is way too easy to do, I don’t think it should implemented at all.

All spirits stack, however i’m not sure if their ICDs stack, IE is the ICD per player/effect? Or is it per spirit per player/effect?
Since the frost spirit has NO ICD, they should stack with no issue.
EDIT: Just to clarify i’ve done a rough test on this, and 2 stone spirits will give their “Stone Spirit” buff twice on a target, however if you’re in a large group of players they’ll try to put it on multiple people and avoid stacking it so idk if the effects actually can trigger multiple times or not, but in a group of 5, they should be forced into doubling up.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Sides or being behind them will apply the bleed, keep in mind the SB is designed for being pretty close to the enemy and being just out of their melee range for full effect.

The sad thing about guild wars is that pets in Everquest 15 years ago had better AI. It’s a sad state of affairs. All they had to do was separate their failed e-sport from wvw/pve and rangers wouldn’t get nerfed the amount we do.
It’s not failed yet bro, LoL didn’t launch as an Esport, yet it’s an extremely popular one now.
That being said, they need to do what they did with mesmer clones/phantasms, split how tanky pets are in each game mode, in PvP they’re fine, rangers are actually really strong there, in PvE they’re -OK- in a lot of it, but there’s other areas in PvE where the pets useless cough cough AR first boss cough cough And then in WvW…. yeah… they just explode.

That is archer not ranger. Ripping a class from other game and saying it should be like this…well i will try to remain civil so i wont comment on it.
Well tbh ours is Beastmaster not Ranger either.
Every ranger stereotype is inspired by ad&d ranger class. And they have animal companions, and are closley connected to nature. Not all of them, there are exeptions but stereotypes are. Also, they use both ranged and melee weapons.
Beastmaster is that pumped up guy that has mark of beast on his palm, its an old movie.
I’m just adding to your post, Beast Masters also ONLY use their pets, they normally don’t do anything themselves and just sit in the back and go “GET EM PIKACHU!!” where a ranger uses nature magic and martial techniques to fight with their pet in unison instead of as its master.

U mad bro?
Bears are big, fuzzy, and can bite your head off. That’s three good reasons to have one as a pet.
I don’t care that their stats don’t reflect it. I mean, they’re friggin’ bears! Just think for a minute, you’re walking back home in an empty street. All of a sudden, some dude decides to jump out of an alley and mug you. What would you rather have at your side?
- a stupid flamingo?
- mama’s dog that you were taking out for his wee wee?
- a FRIGGING BEAR!Pop signet of the wild, and there you go: proper-sized bear mauling the face of whoever stole his pot of honey. Or yours.
Plus, because of the ‘attitude’, the bear is epic. meta-wise. It’s the ranger x1000. Playing a ranger, you’re already a noob magnet, as every idiot and his dog will become blind to anything else after seeing you, going for the ‘easy kill’. As a ranger with a bear, you’re just entering another dimension of underestimation. Every. Single. Idiot. will come running all the way for you. They will even tell their friends. It’s so easy i feel like i’m haxing.
When i was young, my foes deleted their characters for having been pwned by a ranger.
Now, they delete the game and reformat their hard drive, cring all the way because they’ve been pwned by a ranger with a bear.
The Ranger class, can we fix it? YES WE BEAR!
This may be the greatest thing I’ve ever read…..
Btw Spirit ranger + Bear + longbow = most OP Zerg buster in the game, the amount of people that will try to chase you into your kittenING KEEP is ridiculous and hilarious xD, c’mon bro! Why can’t you hurt me while blinded weakened and immobed?

Idk about you but i love my Axe/ Axe in PvE, i normally pull the entire mob to me, hit them all with split blade, and then rack up the vuln for my team with WD for complete devastation of the mobs.
I normally explain what i do to my team first so they don’t fire off all their stuff until AFTER i start using WD though, and since my friend almost always runs with a Guardian there’s tons of synergy, he pulls them all in so they don’t have a choice to get pulled to me, and then they all die.
That’s what I do too.
Path of Scars to pull all mobs to me, Splitblade for 5 stacks of Bleeding on everyone, then Whirling Defense to stack Vulnerability. Add some traps in there beforehand, plus I use a Drake that has Tail Sweep for a Blast Finisher, and it all adds up to a very nice bit of burst damage.
I’m a spirit ranger so once they’re near me I pop all 3 spirit actives for an immob, burst of damage(normally wait till after vuln is up, have hit for 6k in my magi gear) and a double blind, really nice for keeping them from escape.
@Bri, he normally backs up a little bit as my axe goes towards them, the Melee ones will close in to chase and thus get hit, and any ranged tend to either 1) stand behind the Melee and this get hit too, or 2) can’t be pulled anyway(TA in looking at you!!)
PS: keep in mind in not a dungeon master so idk if this works in ALL dungeons, just the ones I’ve done.

Am I the only Ranger who picks pets based on their aesthetic appeal to me? O.o
Nah. I do as well. I just need to not use half of them in dungeons and have to relegate them to RP only. And it is sad. T.T
I do too, but it’s a fernhound and he’s really good in PvE and it fits my supporty build nicely so he sees a lot of time out, the other pet I tend to change as needed but is usually slotted as Beary Bearington(yes that’s his name in RP too) because of how useful that fat kitten has been, which is funny because I only started using him as a joke.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
What game mode? sPvP? WvW? PvE? In PvE they’re beastly, I’ve had my beat just tank Mai in AR for 50% of the dungeon and he didn’t give a single kitten, also helped the group by snaring her (polar bear) and removing condis (brown bear). In WvW they’re the only pet that can go into the Zerg battles and stay up most of the time, AND for the same reasons they’re good in sPvP, which is being a meat shield vs ranged, and through “Protect Me!” As well as the essentially 100% uptime and support they provide. I mean c’mon, AoE chill and weakness are REALLY good against zergs and that AoE condi removal can be very good in a lot of situations.
Now that being said, most rangers (I said MOST not all) I’ve seen with a bear tend to be horrible players who have no idea how to micro, but if I see that’s the case I tend to give em some pointers.

That’d make them even more pidgeonholed, it’d make it so if i want to be a BM i need to not only go into the BM tree but i’m literally FORCED to take that trait in order to be viable. Not to mention it’d be the only trait in the game that nerfs the character…
Imo i think they should just balance it out that the ranger isn’t SUPPOSED to have the pet up 100%, so the pet could be squishy and deal a lot of damage (or be a bear or another tank pet and essentially just not deal much damage but always be present), so if you had a Cat you’d deal ~ 120% damage, but if you had a dead pet you’d deal 90-100% dmg.

1) F2 interrupts all other pet actions and launches immediately and can only be interrupted (by the ranger) by using F3 or F4, NOT by hitting F2 again!!
2) Trap traits to be swapped with the signet traits in marksman.
3) The master traits in BM applying to ALL PETS not specific families
1 and 3 I would go with aswell, don’t really care about 2 since it doesn’t affect me but it makes more sense though, or even more in the wilderness survival tree and moving sword cd, offhand cd and barkskin to skirmishing wich all really fit better in there aswell.
Reason I think they’d work better for marksman is that snipers tend to lay traps to their vantage point, aaaaaand it gives condi duration which benefits all the trap effects instead of just a few of them.

Guard attacks as a stealth for all pets. People complain you it’s to easy to avoid, cant avoid what you cant see. The potential for guard is emense its only litmited by your imagination.
Guard was better in the begining. Who’s to say that with all the neft to pets such as damage and leashing that it wont be reinstated to it’s former glory so that ranger wont lose damge when attacking inside or evenout side a keep.
Lol that’s how I used drakes before they got buffed!

The gem store itself has a timer on that item. I believe it says 6 days remaining right now.
They leave when Dragon Bash ends.
kitten …. If you buy em though you can save it for later right? Was thinking of getting them for a guild event

Hey I’m just wondering if the Fire Work Consumable (the one that can give magic find) is going to be around to stay like the bonfires were. Or are these going to be leaving the gem store with the end of Dragon Bash?
Thanks!

How do you not like Sick’Em O.o? I -would- like to see my pet gain some boons from it, but then again, I use 30 in NM so I want that 5% damage boost xD.
Maybe ontop of what Sick’Em currently does the pet could gain fury and 10might? This would make it so if you decide to essentially waste the shout by having your pet do something else (like all the shouts) there’s still some compensation.

Lol Darda, he obviously is in shape but everyone’s biceps stick out when they cross their arms. His posture in general looked terribly uncomfortable so I wonder what chair he has. At least that’s what I wanted to know. Give the man a new chair if you ask me.
Lol I thought he was sitting on something jagged, he just didn’t look comfortable that entire time xD, we should send him a beam bag curtesy of the ranger community!

I’m not saying it will pidgeon hole people INTO BM, but all BM rangers would be pidgeon hold in their build set up, like pretty much all the other pet using build

Maybe their higherups (marketing department?) has something shoved up them, that forces the balance team to listen to stupid “trends” rather than actual good balance.
If it’s true, they will only loose from this in long term. No one wants to play unbalanced game that favors some classes over others. You just switch to “prefered” class or stop giving a kitten about game.
It’s not, Anet likes to focus on one or two profs at a time, this patch was warrior and necro, rangers day is coming to shine, just be patient
