Meh then you’re totally pidgeon holed to be a master of beasts where as currently there’s quite a but of options, I would like them to bring back our Utility Skill “Comfort Animal” which had a 30s CD and would Rez the pet, or if the pet was alive heal it to full and cleanse it of condis, that alone would make em more useful in areas, I know I heard someone say that “Protect Me!” Should chain into “Get Up!” Which ends the shout early, increases the CD but gives your pet full health.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Yes, but that’s just CD and some damage boost, what you’re suggesting is a damage boost, range boost, and all your attacks are now a narrow limitless target cone, do you not see how that is significantly stronger than that warrior trait?
Personally i’d like to see them all combined into one trait called"Bow Mastery" and slapped into the Grand Master spot of Marksmanship, and drop Remorseless down to a Master trait, maybe merge it with something else, but i can see a ton of people disliking that.
Oh! No! Don’t combine all three. That would be too broken. Combining just range extension and cooldown per weapon would not be too broken. Some would complain that it doesn’t affect both weapons anymore but it would also make us choose to specialize in one bow over the other, which isn’t a bad thing.
Maybe make Eagle Eye boost the damage of both bows and then say Increase Longbow Range, and maybe increase condi durations on the SB skills or increase precision while using SB or something along those lines so both bows actually do get buffed. Or maybe just merge Quick Draw and Piercing Arrows to make it easier shrugs (i’m more concerned about merging piercing arrows just because of how freaking strong that trait is for our prof)
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
@Shiren, Keep in mind i’m a PvPer (tPvP), so the range is a non issue to me for the most part, The reason the Shorbow is more Skirmishy (yes i was using the word correctly) is because Companions Might was buffed, which my PvP build had relied on which made the fights end a lot faster. And lets face it, Companions Might + SB is probably the best combo you could have because no other weapons really throw that many attacks as fast as the SB (maybe warhorn).
And i know that warriors have that, Mesmers have the same sort of thing, as do a few of the Necro ones. Am i saying “Don’t do it it’ll make us OP!” kitten no, i’m just saying i’m cautious about merging those because of how much stronger that is than just X change to weapon + CD reduction, they’d probably have to merge Quick Draw with Piercing Arrows, which i imagine would be harder for them to do since it’s across trees. Then again, i’m no programer idk how this stuff works.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I can understand not increasing longbow range, but why not merge Eagle Eye with Quick Draw and/or Piercing Arrows and have it bring shortbow back to 1,200? Build compression and both bows are different from each other at all times. The short bow isn’t a very fun weapon right now.
Because that’d make it an EXTREMELY powerful trait, not to mention that they’d need to make another trait to fill the void.
Not that powerful. Look at Burning Arrows for warriors. Range extension, recharge reduction, and increased damage against burning foes in one trait. We should not need more traits to do the same work as the warrior.
EDIT: Apparently I misread and it doesn’t have the range extension. Still. I don’t think it would be to broken.

I think a better option would be to implement a Grandmaster trait (lets just say Remorseless for the hell of it) where when your pet dies you gain X% of your pets damage added onto your attacks, this would make it so if your pet dies you’re not totally boned, but you still wont be rewarded for just killing your pet off, maybe even slap a time limit on it.
However, the pet should NOT deal a miniscule amount of damage, because that will limit our builds big time, and if pets only do 10% by default they’d need to make traits play a much bigger role in both pet damage and player damage which is likely not going to happen.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Can someone please post a link to SoTG?
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I’m of the opinion that arrows should pierce by default and longbow should be default 1500 range. Because right now you need 3 separate traits to effectively use bows, shutting the player out of traiting for signets or traiting for pets. This is a lot of the reason that Malicious Training—a fantastic adept trait by the way—fits into few builds (why go malicious training when you have to give up steady focus, signet mastery, or keen edge? Can you really justify Expertise training in the already tight Wilderness Survival line? etc). Just a thought…because I find that there’s a lot of neat builds in theory, that would only work if you have 80 points to utilize. Ever get that feeling? That it’s always 10 points away?
10points? how about 5? every “brilliant” idea I get when playing around with builds is 5points short of reaching a crucial trait for whatever idea I had, it’s totally infuriating at times.
Oh god, i feel your pain… I got this idea at work yesterday and was like “That build would be amazing!!” got home and found out i didn’t have enough trait points for it…. soooo close…

Rangers don’t do anything another prof can’t, end of story, they can do things better than some profs granted, like ranged DPS, hybrid builds (condi AND direct damage) etc, but nothing the ranger can do is UNIQUE to the ranger, which bums me out because I really wish we had -something-.
That’s not true. There is one thing we do that is unique. We lose a lot of DPS from something entirely out of our control. /sarcasm
That being said, I’m sticking with ranger for my main regardless.
I’m playing my ele a lot more but now that spirits are stronger my ranger is making me second guess the whole playing on my ele thing lol, that and I’m a lot better at playing ranger than I am playing ele xD
Practice with the staff! You can’t lose to ol’ Chopps. Everyone knows I’m a noob who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. hehe

I also want the LB to actually become viable. I want reason to wield Kudzu, the only bow legendary worth wielding!

You gotta be kittening kittenting me…. Why would warriors health pool need to go up? They already have the highest health and armor in the game!
Not in spvp, this would only be in wvw and pve afaik.
No. That is for sPvP/WvW. They are already tanky as kitten in PvE.
They’re already tanky as kitten in those areas too, just because the warrior is too kittening stupid to realize zerker gear doesn’t give you survivability doesn’t mean they need a buff!
Well that reminds me of an interesting thing Jon said during the talk. Sometimes they make a change and the community doesn’t react to it or choose to utilize it. Maybe they’re reacting to the way people want to play warrior. During the talk, one high level player reportedly said he goes full glass in warrior because his hope is that he can kill one or two people before he dies. He basically just rez rushes and that’s their gameplay and it works. Jon didn’t like that and was just throwing out ideas to give the warrior more sustain. Obviously, you start with armor/health so maybe that’s why he threw that out there. It’s the most obvious “thing”, but he didn’t seem to really have an answer.
Ooooh maybe warrior damage (inherent) is going to get obliterated by the nerf hammer and they’re going to make them inherently tanky like in GW1 instead, that would be a fair trade off….
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking when I wrote what I wrote. I can imagine how Bat would be nervous though. He did well enough. It’s not like it’s the end of the world or that the questions he asks really matter at the end of the day
They matter to oft ignored diehard ranger players. They matter a lot. We’re already losing our fellow rangers at a pretty good pace.
Well, I can’t disagree with you there. I hardly see any rangers in wvw anymore. It’s not a bad thing to expand your horizons to new professions—if you have time. I think Durz is becoming one heck of an all around player but he must not be that good because I still beat his ele 1v1 (ahaha durz better practice with that staff!!!!). Granted, I have 2000 hours on ranger, I better be able to beat someone with a couple hundred or less on ele. :P
Just like him, you all should play multiple professions to expand your horizons. Me, I’m moving on from the game too but not because of nerfs. I got a life to lead. I’ll still be rocking ranger in the Mists, though.

This is a good question, Vhampire. I’d assume that ANET let’s you see the numbers before they’re discounted by toughness (so you get to see Big Numbas Yo), but I can’t say for sure without testing. Hopefully someone knowledgeable decides to comment.
Nope, it shows the damage actually dealt, necros have the most HP in the game since deathsroud is a second health bar AND it scales off of your vitality (so says my necro friend), so if he were running a Hybrid build and thus using Carrion armor he’d be a tough one to bring down…

I sense an incoming “support” bunker staff vid. Well, I guess it’s still a staff build.
Also I want to mention that giving us higher HP is a great idea IMO. Same as mesmers, engies and rangers should do. While they’re at it they may as well give mesmers our current HP, they have more than enough survivability and damage for it :P
My build is more support oriented but it can still 1v1 fairly well, I don’t like going too offensive on any of my ele builds, it’s just too glassy

I agree, just throw a small gem prize at the end for the winning team so they can kill 2 birds with one stone 1) a reason to motivate people, 2) a way for us to be able to get gem store items(or gold) through in game means

Dodgerrule’s right, but some of you are being too tunnel-visioned to try new ways of using your class and so don’t see it.
The class brings excellent support with spirit buffs, pets revives, spotter, area heals, area condition removal, and other elements.
It does solid damage if traited and geared well.
There are plenty of conditions for good control.
It alternates well for the situation – very good for being in melee, ranged, or with a split between self and pet: both.
Ranger played with ‘just auto-attacking stuffz’ can solo just fine, and sucks in group content… but it might be time to learn to do more than auto-attack.
Look man, I’m pretty die kitten the whole “rangers are fine all you forum posters are idiots!” (No offense) team, but dodgerule is clearly new and doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
You know who else can have an NPC tank as you Rez? ANYBODY but a warrior, eles have earth elementals (bears on roids), mes has phantasmal defender, necros have a horde of minions, etc etc.

shrugs I’ll let someone else do the DD escape I play staff, but I’ll get some PvP footage once I can get my group together for PvP (tried to get them rallied for tonight but 2 are MIA ATM, hopefully I’ll have it by Thursday)
EDIT: I’ve been using Afterburner for years and never knew it was able to record…. wow i haven’t been using that to it’s full potential…
So I tried some pvp with staff as an ele and after 8 matches I died 20 times and killed 0.
My mesmer with staff 1st match I ever played most I’ve ever done with mesmer was reach lvl 6 and in my 1st match I got 15 kills and 2 deaths. Pretty sad for somebody who mains elementalist.
Well were you using the starter mesmer build? If so Congrats! you can kill people with a phantasm build! In short that means you can spawn illusions and not die before your illusions kill them yaaaaaaay go you, you showed the lowest skill floor build in the game that our high skill floor staff is worthless!! Oh wait…
Just because you can go in with one profs weapon and do decently doesn’t mean you can go in with ANY weapon on ANY prof and do decently, some weapons (such as ele staff) has a higher skill floor than others. Next you’re going to say that “Well i can do well with a Warrior GS but i don’t get anything done with a ranger GS!”

it’s 2 blinds not 1 blind, and i spend most of my time out in the field, i tend to not defend any keeps or that such, i normally run around with a small group (2-3) and flip camps, earlier today though i ran around in a group of 5 and Ninjaed a few towers though and didn’t have much issue, but again i wasn’t in any large scale.
And i’m not saying you’re BAD, i’m just saying you may not have total understanding of how to use your spirits. As an example, i may be a good ranger, but it doesn’t mean i could pick up a bunch of traps (which i tend to not use) and be good with them, i’ll be -ok- but i doubt i’d be as good as a ranger who uses traps ALL THE TIME.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
after trying the build in this thread, pets still died instantly on the sparring partners (died to: guardian spin-2-win, engi bombs, warrior’s hammer shock, necro’s well-of-something-emo). Instantly, with no chance of moving to safety. In this fights where they did live, they were all too low health to move on the the next fight except of course when fighting the Ranger (lack of aoe if you interrupt the barrage).
In actual hotjoins, they died right away against an engineers and warriors and took some time to die against the others. most fights and all matches were still won, but this is more a testement to how well someone can play without any utility slots (and possibly the strength of rezzing myself with the spirit elite).
spirits still suck, not viable, especially in wvw aoe-heavy situations.
I was using spirits in WvW and sPvP earlier today and only had issues keeping my spirits up vs Grenade engies, in WvW it was a non issue, there’s enough bodies there to eat up most AoE damage and if my spirits die instead, it means a player wasn’t taking damage for a 4-kittens.
I’d highly recommend using the Blind and lightning strike since they can proc protection (and usually do) from the stone spirit, giving them more uptime, not to mention you can heal your spirits with healing spring.
I’d suggest you get better at using your spirits before saying they’re worthless, because that kittening storm spirit has been critting people for 5k in my build that has a grand total of 0 power.

Yup it was you lol, very similar to mine, main difference between them is that i took a wolf instead of a drakehound and had 20 in BM instead of marks.
I’ve been thinking about going back to the wolf for my second pet. I tweaked this from my original spirit build, where I focused on keeping as much distance as possible from my targets to get the most out of my LB’s damage. I was using the drakehound’s immobilize to help with that and the wolf’s fear once they were up close. It’s still useful in making sure my storm spirit stays in range when I activate it.
Ah true, i know i tried using a fern hound a bit for the Regen (it heals spirits) but it wasn’t too good in PvP where people will actually try to kill the spirits, in PvE however that’s a pretty good combo because they mobs normally don’t target the spirits they just try to AoE them
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
So, was PvPing earlier today and i gotta say, there is no way in hell the spirits health is only 8k…
Nature 15pt-minor transfers buffs to the pet. With the spec he posted, that means he is transfering
- swiftness (from one of the spirits to himself and back to all of them),
- protection (again, from spirits to him back to all, +from dodge rolls),
- regeneration and vigor (from Nature 5pt-minor and healing spring)
Plus they are getting healed even more if he pops his elite.
I’m not saying they dont have more than 8k health, but im saying full protection uptime+full regen uptime+ elite heals are going to make it seem like a lot more.
spirits =/= pets, trust me, i’ve done TONS of testing on that lol

I can say that 1-2 conjures in a build is pretty strong, but using all conjures is, well… too many skills lol, it gets a bit overwhelming, i mean i guess you -could- make it work… but… yeah…. don’t see that happening.
I gotta say the only weapon which has real lacking skills would probably be the earth shield, it’s like they couldn’t decide what they wanted it to do, i think they should be more defensive oriented, give more boons to the user, like vigor and/or protection, the 5 is fine though.

Pet corpses ARE exploitable in GW1 bro,
I don’t know how long it’s been since you last played GW1, but pet corpses aren’t exploitable anymore. That trick was patched out some years ago when barrage/pet groups were still popular.
I have played fairly recently and Olias seems to love turning Wilson into a bone fiend everytime he hits the floor…
When one of my pets dies, the corpse is already exploited, and no one can do anything with it. But after all the buffs to GW1 pets, I rarely see them die.
Mine normally would die when like 6 mobs would be like “Lets all pop everything on that one Wolf! That’ll show him!!” And being a Dire pet he’s kinda in for it despite what i buff him with unless my healer decides to heal him, but they don’t… like ever..

So, was PvPing earlier today and i gotta say, there is no way in hell the spirits health is only 8k, Enemy spirit ranger was not only dealing ~3k off of his storm spirit and 2.4k off of his sun spirit actives but those kitteners were taking hits like champions, and i was dealing no less than 1k per hit, they had to have at least 10-13k health (he obviously had the traits to boost them).
I know he said he was wearing Carrion Gear, so either spirits got a stealth buff to health, those above numbers are false, or they scale off of our vitality. I think i may bust out my spirit build once more…

Rangers would be a lot more fun if anet had given us a decent pet system to work with. Right now, pets are just a portable DoT that can be easily killed, or mitigated simply by moving.
I’ve played several pay to win Korean/Chinese MMOs that had much more involved pet systems, which made me gravitate towards the pet classes.
I know not everyone wants to be saddled with a pet, but would you mind so much if you could use that pet to buff your own stats? Or if you had complete control over all their skills and movements? Or if certain pets granted you special boons unique to that pet family?
This would not only make the pet good but make the ranger a fun class to play.
I rarely ever used a pet in gw1 and even less so after they made them leave un-exploitable corpses (should have been pvp only but w/e). I picked ranegr again because I figured they had discovered how to make pets work this time around since they built it from the ground up as an integrated part and not just a specific build. Too bad they blundered that royally.
I actually kind of miss the GW1 unstoppable meat shield juggernauts that were pets.
Pet corpses ARE exploitable in GW1 bro, and GW1 pets were freaking amazing, especially if you took all pet skills, your pet just became a god amongst mere mortals as you shouted commands and twirled your baton in the back/midline xD

In my defense I’m always afraid to post my builds, good builds mean people copy it, which means less diversity, which means more people know how to counter/fight my build. Etc.
That being said I’m growing tired of my ranger too, but not for the same reasons, I’m sick of not having any unique utilities minus Muddy Terrain, if that even is unique… I mean for kittens sakes, everything we do is done by someone else, Shouts = warrior + guardian, sigs = everyone but engi traps = thief, spirits = may as well be banners, Wilderness = generic skill type that every prof has

I don’t pretend that some of the ideas could be overkill (or they could be quite balanced) that is what ANET needs to work out with their data and analytics, but in the meantime, simple to implement ideas that MIGHT work are the best chance of getting something accomplished.
Very true, I think we need something to make our utilities Unique because ATM we don’t have any unique utilities, or pretty much anything apart from our pet and the whole “rangers are sustain only, no burst” thing in how we deal damage ( that doesn’t phase me because I build for sustain anyway)
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I agree on the utilities, the #1 thing that keeps me from playing my ranger more is the total lack of unique things, I mean sure, traps and preps COULD HAVE been ours but they wanted to give thieves traps too (not against that) and then give them the prep skills we had (wtf Anet), spirits are, for all intents and purposes, banners, I’d love for my spirit to essentially be a “field” IE: Storm Spirit creates a lightning storm around it causing damage to enemies and giving swiftness to allies, Sun Spirit fills an area with intense light and heat causing burn and blind every second to enemies and might to allies etc.
I’m gonna keep playing my ele until my ranger gets some more interesting skills, or at the very least our auto attacks become awesome, I would do horrible and unspeakable things for LB1 to become Crip Shot….
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Rangers -could- catch an ele if they Hornet sting + Monarchs leap + LR + swoop onto you, but if you’re an event halfway decent ele and chill them they can’t keep up because they’d be like only Melee skills.
I guess… but there are more people running Norn racials in WvW then there are rangers who are both running double melee swaps AND good enough to do ML+LR on the chase with a gain. chasing someone doing this requires 2 near perfect 180 camera swaps, fleeing using this only requires one, and the turn-around-button isnt going to be fast enough to do it without a loss so this is going to basically be a skill-shot with the mouse.
This would also take take 10 seconds for the second swoop (weapon swap back to GS), which is going to require being able to keep the ele in combat somehow or the ele will port. so… now we have to add in dagger or warhorn offhand with offhand training? I dont think i’d be running from this guy because i’d be laughing too hard.
Lol I’d personally be using the axe for the pull and reflect, but yeah that build literally has no place in WvW, although I would be highly impressed if someone actually caught me using it

On the bright side they really can’t butcher the class anymore than they have.
lets look at the ranger class as it stands, It’s unwanted by anyone in Pve for anything, only one build was viable in PvP, and the class is pretty useless in WvW, I know of guilds that won’t allow Members to join with a ranger because they bring absolutely nothing to the guild.
My question to the Dev’s : "When you were children were you touched in bad places by men in the woods or were they carrying bows? is that where the hate is coming from ?
Do you even PvP? Trapper, BM bunker, condi ranger, all viable, we now have a few more builds added, and keep in mind this is for the “meta” which isn’t changing atm because people are too lazy or stupid to change it up atm.

You just listed every class as if they’re stuck to one weapon and can’t swap to another weapon set that affords them the mobility they need to come after you.
No, I listed situations that were the absolute worst case and expanded on the reality of the situation. Not making note of the liklihood that someone uses a weapon is part of what makes your complaints so absurd.
It would be like rangers making threads about how bows arent viable because elementalists can chain swirling winds over a zerg. Focus simply isnt popular enough for that to be a serious concern.
- Guardians rarely use 1h sword or Judge’s Intervention because double 2h shout specs are the dominant meta. RTL+Flash outdistances JI+sword2 anyway. Complaining about Guardians being able to catch ele’s is rediculous.
- Mesmers gap closer combo was blink+sword3+sword3 again. That is less distance than RTL+flash and only usable with a target in range of sword 3. If they add a backwards facing Staff 2 beforehand, it is still less distance. Complaining about mesmers being able to catch ele’s is rediculous.
- Engineers cannot catch ele’s. They can come close to RTL with slick shoes (superspeed) + magnet. Have you ever, ever had an engineer catch you with slick shoes? No. No one uses that skill. Complaining about engineers catching ele’s is rediculous.
- Rangers have swoop on a 9-12 sec CD. Swoop is 1100 range. Greatsword is used with non-bunker power builds, usually paired with a longbow or shortbow. With shortbows range nerf, RTL+Flash will outrange half of the GS/bow rangers. Do elementalists have trouble fighting rangers who run GS/longbow power builds? No, not sense quickness was nerfed. Nor do many rangers run GS with how great 1hSword is, so most of them are slow. Complaining about rangers being able to catch ele’s is rediculous.
- Warriors often have GS for the mobility/evade. They are also the worst pvp class in the game. They are a threat only in a bad situation or 1vX, in which case using an elite to escape is a reasonable tradeoff for the game to ask of a player. Complaining about warrior’s being able to catch you is only fair if they could actually kill you when they got to you, otherwise, its rediculous.
- Thieves with shortbows are fairly common, though not as popular as D/D+D/P. RTL+Blink is faster than any non shortbow thief, especially after they have blown steal. Use the elite if they have a shortbow.
Thats a total of exactly 1 other class that could regularly catch you AND cause a problem if you dont blow an elite. Other classes wish they could say that.
Rangers -could- catch an ele if they Hornet sting + Monarchs leap + LR + swoop onto you, but if you’re an event halfway decent ele and chill them they can’t keep up because they’d be like only Melee skills.

Does no one in this thread know how to use a staff? This is just sad….

Rangers died on June 25th 2013.
I hear this sentence every update…
Considering how many ppl said they are leaving ranger/game since I’m watching it, I expect to be the last ranger soon
Would be fun.
Then you can be called The Lone Ranger xD, I was hoping I’d be the last one, but I’ve already fell in love with my staff ele… More because of staff ele being more of my thing than ranger being bad btw, ranger is still my OP tPvP prof

@Talmor why piercing arrows?
Bags. Need dem bags. And badges too! Spiders and axe are good for this too.
But you’re running 2 swords….

I’m honestly more annoyed that the f1 skill doesn’t always work with inanimate or boss objects.
I run with a lynx and a devourer. My slow hitting devourer is super okay with hitting anything… inanimate objects like doors, gates, supply crates, etc. to animate massive objects like Tequatl and the Jungle Wurm. My kitty? HA! You tell her to hit a door and she looks at you like you’re joking. I suppose this could just be a cat thing, but… really? Why won’t the f1 skill work sometimes with some pets? (and this has been tested by standing still, so the range was the same for both pets)
Aquatic pets, also, don’t attack inanimate objects under water. Amphibious will, but aquatics, pfft. Never.
I’ve noticed this too, not to mention that aquatic pets will also refuse to attack anything near the surface

Due to the total disappointment of these other builds and a bit of pitty I’m probably going to post a link to my build later, it’s a 10/20/10/0/30 build, and it’s a death machine!
