I find It ironic, and funny, as hell that the forums kitten and moan for the ranger to deal more of the damage, and once they start doing that the forums cry about it…. Make up your bloody minds!
That being said I’m not buying those notes they seem like total BS, too much is fishy about them.
I don’t think people are complaining about the dmg buffs, I think rangers are actually quite happy about that.
It’s the pet nerfs across all areas of the game being given because of one build being abused in PvP only. If you can’t see that then I feel verrry sorry for you.
Not one person is complaining about receiving LB buffs or 14% dmg buffs to CC abilities on shortbow, not even that many rangers are complaining about the range reduction on SB itself either. If anything this is some of the more positive reaction from rangers I’ve seen in a long time in this regard.
People, myself included, are upset about the way they’re handling trying to down one build being used in PvP, they don’t realize it hurts non-BM rangers even more because now not only did they not get the bonuses from going BM in the first place, non-BM builds received pet damage nerfs for no reason.
The only build in question and is the very reason why pets are getting nerfed is the mere fact that you can go 30 in BM , spec completely for survivability but still be able to achieve near GC numbers from the pet in terms of damage, coupled with the fact that you’re a point bunker holder which is a playstyle that forces you to eat that very damage from the pet no matter how much you dodge. Even rangers themselves were admitting this was very overpowered. The problem is their answer was to nerf pet damage across the board to ALL areas of the game (even in WvW where you don’t need to sit in one spot and eat pet damage to contest a point and fight at the same time) which hurts non-BM’s even more than it hurts BM’s. Are you that blind that you can’t see that?
Keep in mind those notes are full of errors and inconsistencies with what Anet said, not to mention Anet make changes as fast as my dog will evolve into a mammoth, they’re not gonna nerf BM dmg by 30% AND slap a 2k pet leash cap In the same patch, that’s overkill
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Oh yeah, did I mention that Death Shroud 5 in the patch notes is calledDark Binding where Anet has flat out said its called Tainted Shackles?

1) Burning on crit being available in the necromancer POWER tree instead of their condo/crit tree, and Axe Mastery, which increases all their axe damage by 20% AND reduces the CD on it by 20% to a kittening master trait, i mean wut.
This makes sense, since that traitline also gives cond. duration, which would make their burns have a high up-time…also, I think ArenaNet is forcing necros to stop speccing purely into toughness/cond. dmg. Rather, they will have to go for power/precision/cond.dmg, which will reduce their survivability but they already have the most vitality in the game and 2 health bars so necro will be in a good place…maybe even OP for the first few weeks.
Keep in mind I’m not saying that the BURNING is the problem, it’s the application, if anything it’ll be more like Keen Edge, or Target The Weak(is that it?) where if X condition is met (IE they have a condi, or the enemy is low health, or some other trait that a power tree can meet without too much issue) then it’s make sense, but critting? Just doesn’t make sense to have a grandmaster to do that.
Oh yeah, their DS 5 skill isn’t as was described.

Not everyone wants the spotlight, I would be one of said people who would perform a prank, watch it unfold and not step up for the fame
Edit: look at how the patch notes implement torment, 3 skills, no traits, 1 is off a BLOCK, one from a skill that will immob them, and a utility (only one that makes sense) not to mention the necro skill isn’t as they described, and torment does less damage than bleeding and stacks in intensity (according to the notes) so that either needs to scale AMAZINGLY with condi damage or it’ll be ignorable because there’d be no way to get it over 6 stacks on a mobile foe
Oh yeah, did I mention the patch notes call the Death Shroud 5 skill “Dark Binding” when it’s already been confirmed by Anet the skills name is Tainted Shackles?

(edited by Durzlla.6295)
Durzlla – see Engineer, burning on crit is in the power tree, Ranger, bleed on crit, crit tree .. there is no uniform thing.
that said, I’m not convinced they’re real but they could be a couple weeks old.
Those are both adept traits, not a grand master trait, and an on crit bleed in the CRIT TREE makes sense, an on crit burn in the grand master slot of a power tree does not.
And I’m almost positive they know the weakness is on tail swipe seeing as how it’s been their since beta….
Oh yeah, they add a new condition that’s weaker than bleeds unless a condition is met that stacks in INTENSITY but only 3 skills apply it? One of which is a block, that just makes no sense at all.

(edited by Durzlla.6295)
There’s too many things that make me think they’re NOT real to make me prep for them. The top 3 things are:
1) Burning on crit being available in the necromancer POWER tree instead of their condo/crit tree, and Axe Mastery, which increases all their axe damage by 20% AND reduces the CD on it by 20% to a kittening master trait, i mean wut.
2) Tail Swipe and Poison Field combos Weakness not even touched, there’s NO WAY Anet is going to allow an AoE 5s of Weakness and a single target 8s Weakness to stay there when they flat out said all weakness is going to have to come down.
3) Signet of Illusion now working as the community wants it to, despite the fact Anet themselves have flat out said they CAN NOT make it work that way due to tech limitations.
Don’t get your hopes up guys, it looks like someone with way too much time on their hands just made some trollsy notes, if it ends up being true i’m going to be kittening baffledawrfed at some of these things…
EDIT: Oh yeah, going BM would essentially be worthless in the next patch since just about every pet in the game is being nerfed by like 30%, i mean really? Anet isn’t going to smash our pets in the face -that- badly without giving us some pretty major DPS increases on our own skills.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
You just used an ADEPT trait and compared it to a GRAND MASTER trait…. I mean really? Grand Master traits fit the theme of the tree, adepts, not so much.
And anyone with 1000 hours of GW2 could make a bunch of false patch notes to send the community into a frenzy, i’m just saying it doesn’t seem legit.
Not to mention that they missed several weakness applications, which anet would NOT do, which further shows it may just be some troll that went down the wiki page for weakness and reduced weakness durations.

After looking through a lot of the changes on there (especially under mesmer), i don’t think these are accurate, it says that Signet of Illusion will apply when the illusion is created, which Anet has flat out said they can’t do due to server lag or something like that, so i wouldn’t count on these things to be happening, so don’t get too attached or angry with what they say!
That being said, i can only hope that a lot of the ranger ones ARE true because i did like those..

Mesmers never had Fear on Chaos Armour. The old Chaos Armour applied Regeneration or Protection on hit (casting the skill didn’t grant Protection) and inflicted the same conditions as it does now.
Are you sure it wasn’t on Chaos Armor too? And it always had swiftness attached to it as one of the boons (as it still does), and i knew the prot was random. shrugs may have been wrong with that, could’ve sworn it did in BE1

Don’t get rid of my clone on my scepter auto, i’d like to have more than one illusion every kittening 30 minutes and not everyone wants to go 20 in Dueling, because contrary to popular belief, shattering is good for condi builds as well….
And they could always make the clones apply torment, you know make em useful, and don’t even give me that “It’d be OP” bull kitten, they spawn in melee range of the target and could be taken out relatively easily.

This new condition actually fits very nicely into the mesmer theme. We are meant to restrict our opponent and punish them for doing mistakes. Confusion does this and Torment could complement it very well.
Fear also fits nicely into the mesmer theme as well, though sadly even a condition that affects purely the mind is missing from the mesmer arsenal, doesn’t make sense to me.
Confusion plus Torment = I can’t move or attack while you kill me. Woohoo! Not to mention if you are running with a guardian who throws up retal!
Am I the only person who thought ‘torment then fear’? XD
Actually, mesmers had access to Fear on their Chaos Armor and Chaos Storm, but it was “OP” on Chaos Armor and “Useless” on Chaos Storm because they’d run out of the storm, so it was flat out removed from the former, and replaced with daze on the later.

“Enemies under Torment will take damage periodically; as they move, they’ll take even more damage. In looking to expand the condition diversity of thieves and mesmers, we decided to include Torment skills for those two professions as well.”
I’ll definitely be switching my Mesmer back to a condi specc, as it was my favorite way to play my Mesmer. Maybe this next patch will make us a reliable source of applicable condition damage again. I’m excited for the possibilities of Torment!
I think i’m going to do a backflip in absolute joy at the addition of this condition, it’s like my favorite skill from Rift on my Dominator(Storm Shackles)!
If it goes onto my scepter i will be a very very happy mesmer!
If I’m not mistaken that rift move was absolutely broken and OP when it first launched XD

Unacceptable. One level 80 character could just change races to get all of the achievements racial stories give. I stillwonder how is it possible that people choose a race, play that same one for days and realize not to like it, only when too high level to be willing to restart.
I was actually at lv 30 when i was like “You know what would’ve been awesome? If i had been an asura instead!” only reason i didn’t reroll was cause of pick and sickle.
That being said i already said in that post “make it so they can’t gain achievements or rewards from new storyline.” IE if they want to get the other achievements they need to make a new character.

We have leaps, whirls, and projectiles and ethereal fields out the kitten not to mentio we have -one- blast on my favorite skill The Prestige, if only it still used the combo field you fasted it in, but didn’t go off until the explosion instead of giving the blast where you end up.

I think that the Elder Dragons can be turned into an interesting plot device to focus on if done right, the issue is that ArenaNet doesn’t give any of their main villains a lot of screen time, and didn’t really touch on the backgrounds of the Elder Dragons in the story thus far.
White mantle had a lot of screen time, so did Shiro and Abbadon, the Vizier had -some- but not as much as the other two.
Oh yeah, the dervish chick that worshiped Abadon had a ton of screen time until we entered realm of torment, she was in every mission (her talking at least) and a large sun of quests spoke about what her and her forces were doing.

So, I know you said you don’t want to add a race change option because it is sort of not your character anymore sort of thing IE: a human I always a human blah blah blah.
So, why not just make something to make it clear that it’s not the same character and you’re just essentially killing one off and transferring their progress to a different one?
IE: once you use the device (and confirm you wanna go through with it) you get Dhuumed or a little asura portals in an says, “Thanks for using the consortium assisted suicide device!” And blows you up with a canon.
shrugs just saying I’d love to see a race change feature and would probably spend way too much money on it lol.
It should definitely make it so your personal story resets (lets say you get no rewards though including achievements?), “personality” reset, name change, remodel, and cultural armor conversion.

Try not to get downed in the first place
Bad comment i know, but we mesmers are all about damage avoidance. That’s what we are good in and we should make use of it.
Yeah, avoidance, you know what should #2 downed skill do? Exactly! Avoid.
That’s my point. And that spot happens to be right next to target 80% of time.
No, it happens to be right next to your target a percentage of times equal to the “bad spot” target area divided by the maximum reachable area, times 100.
What? Why couldn’t they just make it something like staff #2 skill – Phase retreat?
Because back in the day there wasn’t a kittening arrow over your head while you had a downed clone up, however people dislike our downed 2 being useful and they slapped an arrow over our head.
Granted, i do like that our allies now can see which one is me instead of watching them rez my clone and leaving me to bleed out and die…

Necromancer and Ranger are currently enormously overpowered in underwater combat.

Culling also isn’t an issue anymore in WvW, which also reduces the effectiveness of the tactic, however it’s still strong and used regularly because the element of surprise is often enough.
True, but I still think culling plays a part. Like you said not as strong, but if our zerg gets portal bombed I usually see red aoe/start taking damage before I see enemies. Sometimes…
I’ve been told (i’m not someone who jumps through the portal i tend to anchor myself on a siege weapon xD), that you can cast some aoes as you launch through the portal and it’ll fire through it first.
My guildies were trying to teach a new ele how to do it with Glyph of Storms, i was just kinda glancing at chat, but that’s the gist of what i got from it, i can ask our WvW person for more confirmation.
Interesting. That would make sense as I know you can start a stomp, portal, then come back and finish it (thanks to osicat).
I wonder how that would work, because most aoes that I’m thinking of our ground targeting, so I wonder if that would switch or not. I guess it would work with some ele ones like D/D earth #4,5
It was a weird timing thing like they needed to finish the cast right as they hit the portal (F) and it’d transfer the skill over to the other portal too. I know our ele used a staff (we normally do keep defense/offense)

What -I- do is build my catapult/arrowcart and watch the bags of loot pile up at my feet, if that’s not an option i take my staff + chaos storm + illusionary bouncy trait of bouncing (idk the name obviously) and that tends to help as well.
Feedback also helps.

I’m sure i missed it in your video Osicat, but I’m a newer player and have heard the term portal bomb. The term was used when assaulting a towers gates and i had no clue how to preform it. I am no where close to a good Mesmer yet, hopefully with lots of practice one day, anyways can someone give a brief explanation of a “portal bomb”. Thank you all in advance for any help.
Mesmer drops portal entrance. Zerg stacks on it. Mesmer pops veil, decoy, mass invis, torch #4, etc. to stealth up to opposing zerg, blinks behind, in the middle, or to the side of the enemy zerg, and drops the exit portal. The friendly zerg then takes the portal and crushes the opposing zerg because of the culling and sneak attack.
Portal now only allows 20 people to go through, it used to allow infinite.
Culling also isn’t an issue anymore in WvW, which also reduces the effectiveness of the tactic, however it’s still strong and used regularly because the element of surprise is often enough.

rangers are also very strong underwater (as others have stated)
… i dont think eles get enough/any recognition for underwater combat; but imo they’re pretty good too (massive CC chain(air float, earth sink, water sink, air cage stun, whirlpool pull, fire cripple, water chill), aoes, blinds and water 2/3/5 do tons of damage)
The reason Eles are unsung heroes of underwater combat is people don’t know how to use it because it’s different than on land, underwater earth is tanky condi melee (like on land), air is mobile melee direct damage + CC, Water is Damage (unlike on land), and fire is support (unlike on land) so a lot of people think “I want AoE damage! i’m going to go into fire!” and then just don’t have anything to really hurt anyone with.

Or maybe thats the bug that everyone talks about? That bug happens more than half the time then…
Are you dazing the pet or the ranger? Because my main was a ranger since beta and daze/stun always 100% ended the pet revive, anything else just delays it but those 2 flat out stop it.

ya, one of the things that is starkly different between esports and real sports is …
a serious lack of eSportsmanship.
you cant tackle someone after the whistle blows, because they call unsportsmanlike conduct.
you shouldn’t be able to attack in game either.
The difference is if i tackled you after the whistle blows i could injure you, if i keep smashing your toons face in with my hammer after the match ends what happens? Nothing, your character may die if you don’t continue whatever fight we were having but other than that nothing.
@OP, no, it’s a stupid idea and ruins the whole finishing your fight thing which is what i normally do during the end of the match. If i want to say good bye or congrats or w/e i’ll simply just stand there and do so, who the hell cares if they kill me after the match is over? I mean, cmon THE MATCH IS OVER.

Other sources of reflection that don’t require focus (nor the focus “reflection” trait):
- Feedback (yeah I know, duh)
- Mirror (15s c/d heal with 2s reflect)
If you roll with Centaur then Mirror is almost mandatory given the cooldown. I thought I’d hate it but I love it. Just spam in a fight if you are not at 100% and taking range damage. It’s on such a short c/d you can use it a lot.
You forgot Mimic (blocks ALL attacks, and reflects ranged attacks after you get hit/reflect one projectile), and the trait that makes your diversion reflect skills.

Do you even play a mesmer? I don’t think you do… and as for the whole “You can’t specialize in pets” thing, have you -seen- a phantasm mesmer? They spawn their phantasms and let them do work as they just survive, that’s more of a pet specializiation than a ranger, the pet prof, can do…

Am I the only one that will throw down both portals in combat lol?
You can use portals to teleport back and forth in combat thus dodging attacks without actually needing to use endurance, in sPvP this helps with the confusion when you have clones running around especially if you stealth (make them think you used the portal).
In PvE it’s useful in a lot of bosses by dodging without really dodging, however in PvE it’s not as useful for melee as it is for ranged, which as a lot of people know, isn’t really the “meta” atm. That being said if you run dungeons for fun instead of speed runs then it’s still useful xD
I used to do this a long time ago when portal was ~30s. Funny how I used it more as a solo person than a group oriented Mesmer when it was on a low CD.
I remember popping portals near a good hidy hole while taking out some enemies, and when the enemy zerg walked over, I would pop it.
Sadly, I’m discouraged to use it now, with that high CD (untraited/traited even)
Yeah, same here, it’s kinda upsetting that now portal is pretty much just a taxi service, was more enjoyable when it was more of a combat move…

Portal’s great many uses:
- In WvW, to move Siege Golems around faster.
- In WvW, to have an escape route for Siege Golems to behind your zerg. This is ~crucial if you expect the enemy zerg to be nearby, they’ll probably jump into your golems, getting them out that very moment ruins their attack since they’re sitting ducks.
- In WvW, to move the group past walls or above and into things. Also into enemy groups, though this is too expected by now and frequently fails as a result.
- In WvW, to stomp players (see Osicat’s video, it’s awesome
).
- In PvE, to have a checkpoint in difficult jumping puzzles.
- In PvE, to skip tricky moments in dungeons.
- In PvE, to help players frustrated with reaching a vista.
- In PvE, for it’s way-too-long CD.
- In sPvP, to slot something else instead.
Well you clearly have no idea how sPvP works.

Problem with Your build are thieves and some other classes that get nearly constantly to the melee.
PS. I didn’t quote because wall of tekst would be too big :P
There’s quite a few ways to shake a thief as a ranger with bow/bow, but yeah it’s certainly trixy.

“can” is a good word here
Yes it -can- if I go LB + SB, put 30 points in BM 30 in NM, and 10 in WS survival and go “Lawlz I amz spiritz + bearz!” And wear berserker armor for my dmgz I’m going to be a horrible addition to the group, whereas if I actually make an intelligent bow build it can work, I mean c’mon, most the bow traits boost both bows, they synergies well together too.
I didn’t negate the fact that this combo -can- be good and viable – I only accented word “can”
I meant that if You have well built build and you are good player and know how to ply it it can be good – but possibility that You won’t have to counter enemy that will be very hard to kill with that is rather very low (for example – first mesmer with that funny skill that reflect all missiles to its owner will eat you up because on this setup You have -only- projectile atacks – i had once such situation that i fired volley from shortbow and mess casted that skill and all 5 arrow headed back to me…. that was poisonous).
about bow traits…
piercing arrows are rivalising with eagle eye….
andd only bow related trait eccept that stated upthere is honed bohw with makes cd’s on both bows better.
ok so maybe we don’t want that 1500 range on longbow and piercing arrows are better for our build – To run up bow boosting traits You need to spend at least 40 trait points – 20 in marksmanship and 20 in skirmishing and that left You 30 points for more defensive trait lines – ok why not, and here we have difficult decision – which. we can invest all in ws, all in beastmaster (don’t think so we are considering 30 points in nature magic?) so we have a choice to make our thougness bigger, our boost our pet and healing power – 30 trait points may be little amout to make good survivability based on traits…
and if we want use all potential of longbow and want both piercing arrows and eagle eye – so we need to spend 30 trait points in marksmanship (don’t forget about 20 in skirmishing) imo there are better option at grandmaster marksmanship trait but let’s be it – we want maksimize usability with bows.
so we have 20 trait points to invest.
but however we will spend that 20/30 trait points – as for me is a little “glas canony” build – and that’s one of reasons why I so strenghtly accented word “can”Regards and good luck with Your bows-only build
Oh I totally agree your innate defense is, lets just say kitten, for a -good- bow/bow build, but you also never need to be in melee and can have more CC and ways to get away than you know what to do with.
I normally pair my dual bow builds with 2 30 BM spiders, black widow and I think it’s jungle, the ones with the like 4s immob.

We’ll lose to a Ranger, but that’s about it.
No we won’t,
step 1) target ranger pet
Step 2) create illusion
Step 3) hit F3
Congratulations, the pet no longer is reszing his master!
That’s assuming you have Diversion off of cooldown. I run shatter, so I tend to use it before Mind Wrack for the vulnerability stacks. So, no, it’s still a matter of what if.
You could always go ahead and do this amazing thing called bring sig of dom or mantra of distraction, or you know, not use that skill while fighting a ranger, i mean cmon, does it -need- to be used?

Bad comment i know, but we mesmers are all about damage avoidance. That’s what we are good in and we should make use of it.
