Very annoying for a Necromancer.
We kill slow but we are pretty good at kiting mobs due to Cripple and Chill.

I’ve mostly solved that problem by making mobs chase me in circles instead, but there isn’t always enough space to safely do that.

I decided to just play Warrior to avoid frustration and level my other characters via crafting.

I just play ranger and ele and charge into the fray slinging arrows and spells…. Haven’t had many issues, kiting is for the weak!!

Mmmmm, I dunno.
I have banners that currently heal for 32.5k for their duration and I think that’s pretty darn good. I still have to craft 3 more exotic Cleric pieces yet… and upgrade my crappy Green lvl80 trinkets, too.
Even if it’s just me doing support in a dungeon no one’s dying, so I think the Healing stat is doing it’s job just fine XD.

Well with me… Churning Earth causes people to get the hell away from you, It gives me toughness, it gives me 100% increased Endurance regen, it hits HARDER then dragon tooth, it snares people so my allies can either get away or close gaps easier… And i think that may be it… oh wait, 8 stacks of bleed, that’s nice too!! And if you drop a dragon tooth over someone and then churning earth in sPvP you’d be very surprised how many enemies will say “kitten rezzing/finishing that guy!!” and barrel roll out of there!!

Dragon tooth can burn and the dust devil can blind. It is all for the ‘lasting’ conditions.

You know why I gave up the scepter? Because even if I was able to keep one guy on the distance the others were able to come and threat me from close-range.
In comparison to daggers, which could deal with it (but had always close range, which was deadly) and staff keeping everyone on the distance it wasnt enough.

So there are 3 options:
-Multi-target damage and melee range
-Not bigger single-target damage and lower multi-target damage and small distance
-Multi-target damage and long distance

The choice was obvious :< I just think that both scepter and daggers need more butt-saving options.

I use scepter focus, scepter gives me good med range damage an aoe while still allowing me to wreck people in Melee (god dat tooth kills!!) and then focus gives me a ton of survival abilities, so I’ve had no issues until I get to kitteny and try to fight 8 mobs at once…. Ends badly every…single…time….

Only for damage (which is kinda not huge amount anyway). It has nothing more lasting, like condition damage or control abilities.
So you can hit multiple enemies, but only once a while. That’s why it is important to do something with them in the time you focus on one particilar target.

Necro and Mesmer have minions and illusions for this job. Elementalist must depend on conditions.

Your 1 attack with fire and earth stack conditions, fire and waters 2s have pretty large aoe and both apply conditions, water 3 is an aoe the heals and does VERY minor damage, scepter 3 in fire is also an aoe, blast effect which I like using to give might to allies, or for a heal, earths 3 is a piercing blind…

I fail to see how scepter has no AoE or anything more lasting… Have you even picked up the weapon?

Do you mean “less damage” as in things kept hitting you for less as you faced higher-level enemies, or do you mean it was less of your total HP? Because remember that as you level, your base HP goes higher.

Less as in less damage, like undead were hitting me for 900, then i’d level and they’d hit me for like 800 or so, and even taking 50 less damage for every 100 toughness is pretty major, i know one of my friends stacks toughness and when i try to deal damage to him with any non conditions it just flat out doesn’t work, so it may look bad on paper, but it really shines in actual use.

Yeah… spirits weren’t nerfed… and i’ve been rocking support ranger without taking a single spirit, i will say that Quickening Zephyr is AMAZING in tPVP though.

Spirits were nerfed about 2 weeks before release. They had their health cut in half. If you see a Spirit specced Ranger in sPvP, kill his Spirits and enjoy your free kill.

Anyone who puts all their eggs in one basket is a free kill to begin with… especially since most spirit rangers wont even use their active abilities nor have natures vengeance..

And as for saying they haven’t been nerfed i was talking about further, i know they’re squishy that’s why i don’t have them follow me around when i use them.

Elementalist enhancement idea: Arcane Attunment (weapon)

in Elementalist

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I thought it would be better serving as a “weapon” (you put off your main weapon and use hands to summon arcane magic), because this way you would be able to switch to and from it without efford in any attunment and use the support it gives you to your natural elementalist skills.

For example blind nearby foes by dust+burst combo or heal allies who dont fit in the “geyser” by placing tornado in it to shot healing bolts in all directions.
It would cure main flaw of Daggers and Scepter, being lack of support and multi-target skills and main flaw of Staff being easy-avoidable AoE.

But Scepter has a ton of multi target….

Actually…. toughness and vitality scale BETTER at higher levels then lower levels… so you’ll have to do the testing with those ones at max end to get accurate results, and if you’re getting hit by hyenas for 900 damage i’m assuming that it’s in the charr starting zones… because i know my ranger pet hyena does significantly more then 900 damage, more around 1300 give or take 200…

I’m assuming that you mean that when you get to a higher level, your base HP is higher, which makes vitality’s 10 HP per point not make as big of a difference as it would in the lower levels and that that reduction in effectiveness makes toughness look better?

Or do you mean that, like, when I’m level 80, 200 toughness from the 20 trait points reduces damage by more than it did when I was level 40 with the same 200 toughness? That would seem totally backwards.

In any case, I’m a bit skeptical that toughness is going to increase in effectiveness as I approach the cap. Still, it’s possible that it’s totally okay at level 80. Even if it is, wouldn’t it be nice if the stats were valuable throughout the game instead of just at max level? Especially since this game is apparently about the journey and not the endgame?

The Hyenas in question were in the Fields of Ruin area, level 30-40. My guy was slightly over 40 at the time.

I used toughness on my gear since i had my first option for it and i can say that as i leveled i was taking less and less damage from enemies instead of more and more, so it seems like toughness works backwards (which is REALLY weird mind you) and it becomes more effective at higher levels, or at least i just noticed it working better at higher levels, hell maybe it’s just a coincidence or something?

To be honest i personally felt like every stat was useful throughout my leveling experience, due to how much i rez people even healing power was useful, however that’s ALL it seems to be good for which is where the problem lies… Granted if you build with vitality and toughness you’ll have like no issues being one of the last men standing to pick people up but that’s besides the point…

PS: That would explain the Hyena damage lol, was thinking it was lv 80 and was just like What in the world…

As much as i think this would be awesome… they’d have to do damage, not large amounts of damage granted, but some!! I would say to actually just tie this into the Elementalist Attunement system make it F5 or something and just have all 5 skills not count as a whirl or blast or what not, but create a random effect as if your using one of the fields. IE barrage has a 1/4 chance of causing burning, blind, additional damage (or what ever air fields do) or applying regen.

And for what i feel are obvious reasons i’d put a larger CD on it and also make it so you can’t stay in the attunement forever, maybe make it so you have like 15 charges like a conjure.

It reminds me of Archon in Rift except im not debuffing myself… hugs the arcane trait line oh how i love you!!

EDIT: Oh, i would like to see the conjures buffed though, our fiery great sword is fantastic and don’t think -that- needs a buff, but the hammer and axes totally do… i think bow and shield are ok where they’re at though (especially shield, it gives SO much survivability it’s amazing)

Just curious…. but do you deal ANY damage to the boss? Or do you only run around rezzing? If the second that may be why… because you’re not counted as actually participating in the event because you’re not effecting any of the enemies or npcs in the event (granted if you rez an npc you will get more credit towards the event then rezzing a player). All i would suggest is reflecting a few projectiles or something back into the enemy or just throwing out auto attacks inbetween rezzing people to ensure that the event realizes you’re still “there” and then just going along like usual.

I’m a ranger (switching over to ele because zomg so many skillz!) and when i’m playing i normally just try to throw as many buffs up on my allies as physically possible as well as picking people up, but i’ll without a doubt throw attacks at the mobs because hey, why not? not to mention using magnetic surge/whirling defense to keep low health allies safe (be inbetween them and enemies) gives you tons of credit due to all the “damage” you’re dealing by reflecting enemies attacks.

In short, make sure you’re dealing -some- damage, because otherwise the event will register you as gone, where as if you keep the events attention and rez people and that sort of people you’ll have no issues.

Actually from what i’ve checked toughness seemed to be SIGNIFICANTLY better against damage but did nothing against conditions (rightfully so), however should i go up against anything that didn’t really use conditions i just kinda shrugged off anything and everything they do…

Bah. Don’t know who to listen to. I just have to see for myself, I suppose. I just know that several people claim that Toughness is worthless, and that Vitality is simply all that matters.

Well in PVE conditions are very common (and atm condition builds are the “meta”) so it can create the illusion that toughness is bad when people stack nothing but toughness and an offensive stat or two.

What about a Guardian that stacks up tons of Toughness, and then also has Smite Condition, Purging Flames, and Contemplation of Purity for his utilities? :o

I wouldn’t suggest stacking that many condition removals since it kinda kittens your utility, but yeah you’d be pretty freaking hard to take down especially seeing as how you are not only in heavy armor but stacking toughness. What i personally do is have a lot of vitality and toughness (about 10% more vit then toughness), and i can shrug off conditions and normal damage fairly easily.

My testing wasn’t exactly extensive, but I almost didn’t notice a difference after my thief spec’d into toughness. The opening attack that Hyenas use did about 900 damage (straight damage, no condition damage) before putting 20 points into Shadow Arts (toughness). Afterwards, it did 800 damage. That’s such a small difference that it’s probably within margin of error (IE: normal damage variations).

I then went to a nearby group event and got hit by a normal attack for more than half my life. I could have at least had a good chance at surviving two hits if I’d dumped those 20 points into vitality.

So… I don’t know. Somebody is gonna have to do some more extensive testing. At best, it seems to either reduce damage by something like 3% per 100 toughness or like -1 damage per 2 toughness. Not counting any kind of level scaling.

Maybe defense doesn’t reduce straight damage or a percentage of damage like it does in other games, and instead does something a little less tangible like reduces enemy crit chances against you and/or increases the chance of a glancing blow against you.

Actually…. toughness and vitality scale BETTER at higher levels then lower levels… so you’ll have to do the testing with those ones at max end to get accurate results, and if you’re getting hit by hyenas for 900 damage i’m assuming that it’s in the charr starting zones… because i know my ranger pet hyena does significantly more then 900 damage, more around 1300 give or take 200…

I think dungeons are fine, they’re meant to punsih you for not figuring out the mechanics and blah blah blah blah blah, good players wont deal with that really and blah blah blah.

However in WvWvW you’re going to die… A LOT even if you are the best of the best you’re going to die, A LOT, i think they should make some sort of system where if ALL your armor is damage and is broken from WvW ALONE (IE once first piece of armor actually breaks) the cost to repair it will be halved.

IE: You go to WvW you have 100% fixed armor, it all ends up getting damaged and 1 piece breaks then your cost to repair is halved, where as if you go in with 50% armor and play until your first piece breaks your repair price will be the same.

The reason it’d be like that is to prevent people from wanting to go to WvW just to repair, but let people who spend their time IN WvW all the time to repair without destroying their wallet.

But once again, i think dungeons and those repairs are fine, because once again, they’re meant to discourage graveyard rushing and all that, infact i’d say the more your armor breaks in a dungeon the more and more it should cost you until X amount of time goes by to just eliminate that illusion that graveyard zerging is the intended strategy!

Anet kept a ‘healing’ class out for a reason (who knows what the reason is really, trying to be different I guess, but in the end I think it’s going to fail, but that’s another discussion) so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Healing Power is nearly worthless.

The game is DPS -> Get ‘Downed’(lmfao horrible system)/Die -> Rez/Run Back. That is how Anet designed the game, that is how they want it played. That type of gameplay is what they wrapped the stats around. There will never be a viable healing set-up. The game is about numbers and damage, not healing and ‘take down’ (knowing when to switch targets/focus) strategies. GW2 is the perfect zerg mentality game which will mainly appeal to people who just want to kill things and not have to worry about combat strategy.

1) that’s not how the game is designed, the game is designed where your allies are to pick you up, i’m sorry you have a bad group and can’t do more then that.

2) We know they don’t have dedicated healers we’re not asking for them

3) If they didn’t want anyone to have stronger healing then another person then they wouldn’t even having healing power as a stat to begin with.

Grandmaster Tier Traits- Weak?

Trap Potency
Empathic Bond
Bark Skin
Spirits Unbound
Evasive Purity(PvP)

Natural Instincts (the quickness while downed) has saved mykitten in PvP and PvE so many times it’s ridiculous…

The passive heal for pets in BM is also quite good due to it giving my pet like 300 health per second…

Evasive Purity, i imagine would be a life saver in PVE in orr where everything applies poison which rapes your healing abilities…

As said above, Beastmasters Bond or we that signet one seems great.

Moment of Clarity i have no idea what it does, it seems useless to me… The relentless assault, seems useless especially in PVP, i -guess- it’d be better to be in the major trait area or make it proc on crits or something who knows…

For the most part though i feel like our grandmaster traits are pretty awesome, we only have like 2 maybe 3 that are pretty garbage…

NOTE: Person i quoted that wasn’t directed at you i was just adding onto your post

Vampiric 6 piece

So, the vampiric 6 piece (as great as it would be should it work properly) just is awful atm, for what ever reason, when you drop to 10% health you will just lose your 1-5 skills and not gain any invulnerability at all and pretty much just be a sitting duck awaiting death…

It’d be awesome if this got fixed…

Yeah, i think the whole point of the anti-bot mechanisim is to also screw over people trying to farm the same event over and over again…

How about not farming the same event over and over again?

I thought that was kinda implied… you can just go push one of the chains in Orr and roll around in all the karma and gold it throws at you, it’s pretty crazy…

@Dedish um… if they’re actually one shotting you… your gear is either 1) abyssmally low lv, or 2) you are going LAWLZ I NEEDZ MOAR DMG GUYZZZ!1!1!!!!!11 and managed to find a way to build gear without a single point of vitality or toughness…

If me and 4 of my friends can run through the dungeons being melee 90% of the time i’m pretty sure you and 4 of your friends can manage to go into a dungeon and NOT be one shot by trash…

To say die less is no more then a troll statement. Maybe people would die less if dungeon mechanics weren’t one big cluster kitten. I’ve said it before and will say it again, dungeons in their current state are about as balanced as someone with cerebral palsy trying to ride a unicycle.

The op is right….. the game at the moment has the replay value of a Justin Bierber or Rebecca Black song…… none what so ever, which is the complete opposite of what a mmo is meant to be.

To say ‘die less’ is also one step up from the l2p/go play another game crew. Individuals who think the game is perfect smh.

better then the group of individuals who think a games broken because they personally can’t beat it easily…

Idk about you but i personally prefer the dungeons as they are now, it’s chaos, it’s awesome, it’s not some stupid choreographed dance like in other MMOs, just learn to deal with the chaos and control it instead of flipping tables over because it’s not another choreographed dance!

The fact i was getting 2 ectos from a rare/exotic and matts and the best gear craftable (which is supposed to be something special and blah blah blah that sort of thing) costing 10… That’s just me though, I personally wouldn’t care if they dropped 2 at a time because it’d mean i get my sparkly weapons and armor sooner then later, but hey whatcha gonna do?

Yeah, i think the whole point of the anti-bot mechanisim is to also screw over people trying to farm the same event over and over again… i just kinda roam around the map killing everything and jumping into any nearby DE as well as waypointing around like a madman and still manage to make a good 10 silver or so in an hour… so god knows what someone whose goal is to make money and not use 10 waypoints in an hour can make…

For what ever reason i can’t quote atm…

@Archer Ooooooooh ok, now that may be a problem i personally don’t give a ratskitten about loot, and as such i just simply salvaged and was happy i was getting more materials, i didn’t even preview the armor lol….

I didn’t know you got bad armor and all that stuff though, so -that- could be a fairly large problem… The only thing i can think of though is -what- type of skins would they put there? Clearly it wouldn’t be the ones you use tokens for because that’d defeat the purpose… maybe they could make like a universal exotic skin for explo modes that’ll drop after bosses?

@Valkaneer, i wouldn’t say i’m a fanboy, i do like the game… and i think dying less is a good suggestion lol, if you’re wasting large amounts of gold on repairs maybe you should stop dying?
