Questions in regards to Jaunt and channeling

I think the stunbreak that evades you backwards also doesn’t break the channel of Mantras and other spells, I can’t remember though.

Jaunt however definitely allows channeling as you blink around, I used that a lot in the beta.

Pips for win, no pips for loss

It might lead to teams evening the score so that everyone is happy, but let’s be really honest in here. Would people really waste their time and even out the overall score just to let the one team win in the end… like giving up the fight?

I actually thought about it a bit since my previous post and when I think about it, I don’t know if point sharing would even be that popular. It would be a minor timesave in the end only for those who don’t even want to try, and directly harm the efficiency of it all for the ones that do.

It would take a massive coordinated guild’s efforts to really pull it off, and compared to pve that’s probably not the most efficient way to farm money once everyone’s reached byzantine and hit their limit on the season’s armor as a result. Since you can’t get ascended armor without touching the economy(crafter marks), that means at the end of it all the only real negative to the game is the gold reward at the end(trivially fixable).

Which is to say that coordinated guild would probably be done after a few days, the economy will be almost entirely unchanged, and pvpers eventually settle back into a routine of competitive fights where everyone’s putting in 100% to make their time as efficient as possible.

Not to mention, a lot of people who are playing PvP to play wouldn’t put up with that kitten and would keep capping regardless and probably ruin the efforts of the people there trying to get the points evened out.

Additionally, people who are on the winning end are going to be way less likely to sit around and wait for the losing team to catch up on points before winning because it would literally be a waste of their time and they could just go ahead and win and move onto their next game.

I really can’t see the whole people waiting for the scores to get even and then letting one team win be a thing, sure a handful of people will try and a guild may show up to try it but at the end of the day I don’t see it happening. Especially since the people who would be on board for it likely aren’t very good players and would just get stomped out by the people against it.

shards of glory converter

in PvP

Durzlla.6295

No. What I ask is that they let me deliver the shards of glory converter, and we get back the 50 pvp tickets. It is fair. The armor legendary for pvp is an idea thought in a few hours, they had not foreseen it but had not taken shards of glory to convert

You bought the converter and now you have it, no refunds, I guarantee you’ve been using it to grind your shards up into loot bags which means you’ve already gotten a fair amount of use from it, so just hold onto the thing and PvP until you get your armor and then start burning shards with your converter again.

It’s not even like the legendary armor requires that many tickets to begin with, your real limiting factor is going to be the ascended shards and/or the rare materials for gifts of might and magic

Focus: Godtier Weapon

in Mesmer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Godtier? So let’s see…. Focus has Temporal Curtain which grants swiftness and cripple to anyone who passes through it, pretty weak condition and boons. Then you can shatter it for to pull which is pretty strong if people don’t have Stability yeah it would be pretty effective to combo it with AoE bombs. (lol only bad zergs have no stability). Yeah Temporal Curtain is a pretty good skill.

Then we have Phantasmal Warden. We all know how kittenty illusions are in WvW and obviously Warden is one of the weakest Phantasms alive in PvP/WvW scenarios. In PvE it has it’s use because bosses can be controlled to be stationary and they’ll be able to apply their full skill. In PvP/WvW it doesn’t really do anything other than being Shatter fodder. It doesn’t do anything. People will just walk away from the poor guy in duels. In PvP/WvW it gets easily destroyed lol.

Comparing it to Shield, Shield has a double block that’s invaluable. It also summons 2 Phantasms when you time it right! And these Phantasms aren’t useless either as they provide Alacrity and Slow opponents hit. They do decent damage instantly too!

Then we also have Tides of Time. It’s a god-tier skill. Double stun, doesn’t have a target limit, provides 1.5 secs of Quickness to everyone that passes through it. Sure it has a long ass cooldown but it’s all worth it for it’s power. It also destroys Projectiles?! What?

Ya I do like shield. I end up using focus and shield cause both are so good.

Not everyone is aware but iwarden casts an axe that immobilizes now. Iwarden is probably best used on backliners and downed players. I generally do just pop it and pray though. Maybe I could focus (harhar bad joke) on utilizing iwarden more strategically for part 2. I’ve been experimenting with the whirling cleanse thing. It doesn’t seem too reliable at, will have to learn how to control.

I’ve been running Focus in PvP a lot myself, that axe has a 1200 range, and the projectile itself is borderline impossible to see, so unless they see you lifting up the focus to throw the axe they probably are gonna get hit by the axe and be rooted for 2s and are sitting ducks for you to set up.

Pair that with Sig of Midnight and you can guarantee a nice little immob chain.

Most of the time I’ve used it that immob is either immediately actively or passively cleansed, or it falls off too fast for iWarden or an additional weapon skill to stack some damage, so unless it’s followed up with quick burst (iWarden becomes shatter fodder only saved by Chronophantasma) it’s effect is negligible.

I get the devs reasoning for putting the immob on there and although I like the idea personally don’t find it that useful or efficient.

I suppose in the confusion of a team fight on point the immob could catch people off guard enough for your team to focus them down (used to have similar fun with Chaotic Interruption and focus pull – people didn’t expect the immob there and got caught out. Ah that was fun).

I normally Mantra of Distraction the interrupt and put it on a 15s Cd (power block) to make sure I can abuse it, I’ve also noticed a lot of classes use their heal as a condi cleanse so it can also be a nail in the coffin if they try that nonsense.

I will say though focus is not nearly as good as dueling as it is in team fights, cause the “random” immob seems to get a ton of people killed, and even if the immob missed the wardens and curtains reflect add a lot of confusion. Especially the curtain, almost no one seems to realize that thing reflects bullets (traited) and I’ve had so many people CC themselves on it leaving them vulnerable to the pull

Pips for win, no pips for loss

in PvP

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I disagree fully with making losing reward no pips, doing so would only make losing that much more bitter and toxic. You already get games of people not playing and yelling at everyone because you lost mid in the first team fight, and that suddenly means you can’t come back ever.

If you removed rewards from losing you’re effectively making it so every loss was a waste of time to people and very quickly it’ll devolve into the toxicity of other games that do this like LoL.

Now making it so the pips scale based on how close the game is? That’d be fantastic, if they made it where it was a complete blow out 50 to 500 only got you like 2 pips, but a super close game of 450+ to 500 resulted in the same pips (maybe like 1 or 2 less) as a win? I guarantee that’d get people to at least try the WHOLE game because it means their reward is tied to them not giving up.

Season 8 My Match Making - Response Please

in PvP

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

My experience this season has been overwhelmingly positive, so far it’s some of the best, and closest matches I’ve had consistently.

HOWEVER, occasionally I’ve been getting matches where my team just seems completely and utterly incompetent, they’ll lose 4v3s, 2v1s, 3v2s etc in our favor, be incapable of 1v1ing, or noticing objectives and it’s just awful.

I can’t even fathom how most of my games can be so close and so good and then getting random streaks (I haven’t had one more than 3 in a row, but then again I take a break after 3 like that) of just incompetence.

Ranked Spirit Watch

in PvP

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I like spirit watch. I would say that the orb mechanic is a bit too high risk for its reward and hence is almost always best to ignore. Either make the orb worth more points or allow the orb runner to go just a bit faster. Also since skills have been normalized for orb running, they should also normalize base stats with the orb since now high health classes are the best orb runners though that currently doesn’t matter since orb running is a bad idea.

Oh that would be cool, if picking up the orb just gives you set stats, would make it possible to run the orb on super glassy builds too and not needing to be a bunker to do so.

Chrono Slow traits are underwhelming.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I don’t see a problem with having 100% uptime on slow if you dedicate your entire elite spec line towards buffing your slow capabilities. That seems rather fair actually, you’re building a slow bot. Why shouldn’t it be capable of 100% uptime on slow?

This, I don’t see it being any stronger than a chill bot, in fact it very well may be weaker since chill hits movespeed AND CDs.

Chrono Slow traits are underwhelming.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Here are my ideas for updating the slow related traits in the chrono line

  • Delayed Reactions – Added effect, enemies that are slowed deal 7% less damage to you
  • Danger Time – Reduce the bonus crit chance to 20%, added effect deal 10% more damage to enemies that are slowed
  • Lost Time – Number of critical hits required to trigger reduced to 3. Now applies 1 sec of Quickness and alacrity to allies in a 360 unit radius around you when you slow an enemy, with an appropriate ICD on the quickness/alacrity application.

The change to delayed reactions isn’t necessary, since we can already trait interrupts to do some pretty serious kitten. But it would be nice to have since mesmer relies so heavily on active defenses

Danger time is a pretty huge buff, but if IA was also buffed slightly (say by giving you more damage while under the effects of alacrity or something) then it shouldn’t be so powerful so as to be the best in every situation.

Lost time changes just makes it useful. As it is now though it just sucks. Requiring 5 critical hits just to slow an enemy? 3 is more than enough.

Ooh I like those changes, maybe instead on the delayed reactions make it so slow also applies weakness on an ICD?

Sic'em: changing it right (and S&R)

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Keep in mind that when you enter Beastmode, you lose 30% of your physical damage, and a massive pool of health. So, Sic’em is just a brief 10% damage boost.

Pets are nowhere near 30% of your damage, unbuffed they do like 2k dps max.

Yeah but for your pet to be unbuffed you’re avoiding an awful lot of traits that are very good for you too like sharpened edges, predators onslaught, companions might, bountiful hunter, fortifying bond etc.

Revisiting: Glyph of Unity

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I mean, I think it’d be great if it applied reveal or if instead of it needing to be damage/healing on you it were damage/healing on anyone tethered applied the proc.

IE: tie yourself to a group of enemies and whenever you or a tethered enemy is damaged is pulses the damage out in every other enemy.

As long as the tether is way bigger, otherwise it’s garbage. Or, niche farming mode again.

I mean it’s already a 600 radius, and if you believe the wiki it doesn’t actually break until 900, the radius is perfectly fine, and the avatar state version is great for the AoE healing, the only part of it that’s sorta lackluster is the normal form version, and even then it’s pretty good in some niche situations.

I haven’t tried using it in over a year but I know it did break at less than 900 range. Actually, it could be a bug because if I tethered someone at melee range and they would use a leap skill, the tether would break and most leap skills are less than 900.

Compared to the other elites, it’s just not worth taking except to proc GotL, which is a real shame. When I first saw it I thought it was going to be awesome but reality put me in check.

I mean for only having a 30s CD I think it’s awesome, I use it regularly in pretty much every game mode, although sometimes I swap it out for the spirit since pulsing stab and healing is pretty nice to have.

Yeah, 1500 is too much for a SB, 1200 is good. Just make Poison Volley a single projectile that explodes at your target dealing the Poison in an AoE.

Or a ground targeted poison field to avoid pathing issues and projectile hate. Since we’re not going to get thrown traps again…

a ground target that still launches a projectile is still affected by projectile hate, so unless the AoE will be like muddy terrain where there’s no projectile (It wont), then it can still be destroyed, or reflected before it lands and turns into an AoE.

Shortbow is never going to have 1500 range, at most they might give it the 1200 range it once had.

Personally i think the shotgun skill on Axe is fitting, it’s supposed to be kinda medium range skirmishy, and having a shotgun skill incentives dancing in and out of melee range to use it.

However, I do think poison volley should be changed, i never though the spread made much sense on a shortbow, but making AoE poison fields makes less sense, and it doesn’t need to be rapid fire, since its auto is already an endless rapid fire.

Swap signet of Hunt and WIld active effects?

I think the bigger problem is that SotWs active, although looks very nice, is utter crap, if I wanted an AoE immob why wouldn’t I just slot muddy terrain, or entangle, or stone spirit, or use staff, or bring a drake Hound? If there’s one thing we are drowning in, it’s AoE immobs, we don’t need another one.

Personally I think SotH should keep its new active, you’re trading your chase potential for kill potential, which imo is a good trade off and is fitting for a diner of the hunt

Sig of the Wild needs its effect changed, not transferred… unless they wanted to make the new active our staff 2 or something… that would be nice, and then I could bathe in the animation more often.

Durzlla.6295

So i saw the quantify build for power druid and it says that dps is still lower than condi Druids even after the nerfs, is that true?

I thought power druid builds were viable.

Condi is more damage due to condis ticking while you’re in the avatar state and thus can’t deal any damage, where a power Druid would go into the avatar state and lose all damage but what their pet is dealing.

That being said, power is still viable, it just won’t bring as much damage, but if you’re a Druid your damage is gonna suck compared to anything else anyway so it’s really irrelevant you’re bringing less damage. Your goal is to heal and buff, the damage is just the bonus.

New pets?

Also, why do we have a ‘Swine’ family. Has there ever been a functional use for the piggies? If there is and I’ve missed it, I’d love to discover it. If not, maybe they could be removed/reworked?

Very easy to imagine an aggressive skill/use for a boar. A farmyard pig, less so.

EDIT: just thought about hyenas – just pep them up a bit to make them more useful in a burst damage scenario…

The pigs are actually probably my favorite pet family, they’ve got decent damage for being a tanky pet, and they have the knockdown to end all knockdowns (3s knock down that cleaves), and their F2 gives an insane amount of utility, I mean who doesn’t like an AoE fear, a 3s invuln, 2s stun, chaos storm lite, or every boon in the game?

The problem with the pigs are, 1) their F2 is very clunky since you have to run up and pick up the item, or call them back to you so the item is nearby, and even worse enemy players can pick up the item (they never do, but they have the ability to do so). And 2) their godly knockdown has a very large windup and it hasn’t “homed in” since beta weekend event 2 (the pig would literally chase after its target until the pig was interrupted or the channel ended), which makes it very hard for the pig to land it.

I think the clunky F2 skill kills it a bit for me… purely because other pets are a lot easier to use. I would love to have a big, bristly, violent toilet brush of a Boar as a pet charging into things and knocking them down. Make that the F2 skill perhaps and you immediately have a viable option IMO!

I think the AoE knockdown being on all the pigs is fitting, and as much as i absolutely love the thematic and idea of forage, it just doesn’t work well, it’s clunky, and it feels very bad to use.

If they completely reworked the pigs F2s into something else, I think that they would probably be used as pets because they’re not that bad otherwise. If they changed their charge to work how it used to i can 100% guarantee they’d be used again in PvP if nothing else.

They’re bad and serve no purpose.
They have no aoe aside from long cd one
They have no range.
They have no condition.
They have very low dps.
They are not as tanky as bear
Their f2 sucks.

They’re the definition of worthless and Anet need to rework them entirely, along with most dogs

IF their charge worked like it used to (it was sorta like bullsrush where it tracked you) you WOULD see them used because an AoE 3s Knock Down is a team fight win.

No one is saying that they’re good as they are, they definitely need a change.

Druid being simply “attached” to ranger wasn’t too bad at the beginning, but after the most recent balance change its become even more apparent how distant Druid is from core ranger seeing as how it barely got anything good from the patch.

Tbh, as much as I absolutely love Druid, they need to go through it and make it synergies more with base ranger. If they did that I think it’d be fine that the mechanic is just sorta “attached”, the problem is that it’s “attached” on AND doesn’t synergies

The could make Forage become the skill from the item it creates. Like Steal on thief but the F2 just beomes the item so you do not have to pick it up and Forage goes on CD in the background.

I personally think that would be the best way of going about it too, but I know it’s been suggested a lot and Anet has yet to do it so I doubt it’s something they like…

And how is the loss of all those attributes that exist on the pet, even for 1 second, elite?

Elite specs are not upgrades, they’re a variation of the base class, the part of soulbeast that’s “elite” is being able to fuse with your pet and use some of their abilities at your own whim, as well as gaining access to MH dagger and stances.

Eventually they will be. At some point a profession will have one elite spec that excells better in some role than what the base profession do.
And that’s perfectly fine. You’re still running two core specializations along with it.

I mean, elite specs are supposed to change your playstyle, so if the playstyle you’re looking for is better at a certain role than core ranger, than I guess you could call it an upgrade (IE druid and being support). But unless the elite spec is truly a must take in all situations, then it’s not an actual upgrade. Using Druid as an example again, if you’re trying to be a damage focused build, you’d never run Druid since it is just a straight up DPS loss to do. Sure it gives you the utility and the heals, but you’re going to pay for that either through personal survivability or damage.

You know what’d be cool? If the spirit active by default occurred on both yours (or your pets) location AND at the spirits location, would allow us to place the spirits way more intelligently without completely removing the access to their active

Spirit and Trap Traits

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

No thanks. I’d rather have Spirits altered in 3 ways:

  • Summoning Spirits is a ranged, ground-target.
  • Players cast the Spirit active as a ranged, ground-target which sacrifices the Spirit.
  • Nature’s Vengeance increases the passive range instead of the active.

Allows for better placement, the active skill to be in the hands of the player without placing the Spirit in harms way, and NV tweak so Spirits can have more battlefield coverage since mobile spirits returning is just not happening.

As for Traps, adding 1 non-damaging condition to offensive traps on-trigger baseline would help. Flame Trap blinds (3), Frost Trap slows (3s), Viper’s Nest weakens (4s), and Spike Trap immobilizes (2s).

Increase the base burning of Flame Trap from 2½s -> 3s; Spike Trap’s bleeds from 6¼s -> 8s; the poison field duration on Viper’s Nest from 2s -> 3s; and Trapper’s Expertise to add Resistance (2s) on Healing Spring.

This is all I want for spirits, and then I think they’d be perfect.

The real question is why can’t we have a healthy looking hyena?

I reckon they are cool as!

They can just swap the Hyena model now, since they made a better one.

I hope they just across the board swap the Hyena model tbh and only use the mange one in specific situations.

I’ve ran a spirit/glyph build myself in PvP, I just went full hog with the buffs though, even taking grace of the lands, glyph of empowerment and alignment and heal.

My pet choice was way different than yours though, and I ran BM over WS in favor of the AoE taunt.

Datamined soulbeast traits

in Ranger

I saw the traits in the wiki just now.

And so died the hope that shapeshifting might be one of the unrevealed ones.

That’s two for two in disappointing elite specs for ranger.

Considering how many different pets we already have and will get in the future, shapeshifting would have been too huge an undertaking to achieve visually. And why are some people so hung up on the whole shapeshifting thing anyway? I’m honestly curious here.

They want the game to sacrifice it’s identity so that they can play a ripoff WoW shrugs

Let’s not seriously pretend that our Druid wasn’t heavily inspired by WoW’s druid with it’s focus on healing and zapping moonbeams and lunar energy all over the place.

We even turn into a spirit wisp with our staff.

Are you sure it wasn’t DnD? Or literally any other Role-playing game even before the era of digital gaming that had Druids?

I’ve played DnD before, zapping moonbeams around wasn’t really what they did. Frankly, they didn’t do much of anything useful for a longtime compared to other casters.

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spellLists/druidSpells.htm

Druids in reality have a huge focus on lunar cycles and astral bodies, so I assumed that’s where they kinda got the moon laser things from.

And as someone who plays DnD Druids quite excessively I can safely say they focus way more on transforming into things, summoning stuff, and then spells to utilize plants or the elements.

Kinda upset our Druid doesn’t do any of the non astral stuff with staff/human form glyphs.

I mean it’s definitely possible but WoW is the 30 million active player elephant in the room and lunar themes play heavily into their druid via the connection to Night Elf lore the class has.

It’s likely not the only influence but it’s hard to say that there was no influence either. I’d even go so far as to say the WoW Death knight probably helped shape what Reaper became (at least while wielding a GS).

Oh I’m positive there was at least a little influence for both of those from wow, however, WoW Druid uses moon stuff significantly less than our Druid, they’ve got like, 4-5 spells tops that deal with the moon and sun and all of them are offensive.

All their heals are more plant based/growth based.

It’s funny that the two are inverted from what they should be.

Moonskin druids should be the ones healing with Sailormoon powers and GW2 druids should be the one’s healing with green plant energy.

Right? I really wish our “human” form glyphs, and then also staff, were way more earthy/plant themed than they are, I think the duality would be cool.
