PvP Druid needs balancing

I think there’s a simple solution to the druid problem.

Make pet stats scale with the player’s amulet. Simple as that. No more tanking and dpsing at the same time.

Except that would horribly inbalance the pets themselves unless we rework every single pet to have the exact same base stats AS WELL AS doing a full rework on almost every single pet attack in the game.

Otherwise you risk breaking the class in one way or the other far more than it has EVER been broken before.

If you want to start doing the match on everything feel free. I don’t expect anyone at anet to do it when they are already trying to rebalance pets with the CURRENT system (as evidenced by the last balance patch and probably the next one)

I hate to say it but blanket (all you have to do is this) statements just show that the people that make them dont actually understand how pets in this game work. Or that they didn’t bother fully thinking their suggestion through across the entire spiderweb of effects there decision will make.

If you’re playing as Druid you have a home in pretty much every group as support. If you’re going for damage I’d honestly drop Druid unless you absolutely need one since Druid just hampers DPS.

All in all though ranger/Druid is in a very good spot in all game modes last I checked

He’s talking about the Capricorn and Colliseum achievements, I think the most annoying part about them is that for some reason they made getting the Capricorn achievements compete directly with playing in ranked during the season…

Ranked maps (minus temple) are just extremely boring imo, the secondary objectives are extremely boring on the two that are actually played (forest and Foefire), and Khylo just feels dated, and the secondary objective feels both ignorable, and useless at more than helping mid fights.

I can not wait for the unranked maps to be added into ranked, they all (haven’t played the new one yet so I guess other than that one?) feel like they’re ranked ready at this time, and will hopefully liven up ranked and make it feel less dull.

I’m just worried rhat even with the new maps people will only ever vote for Foefire and Forest still

But would anyone give you a nod if you didn’t run Chrono? Only class I have ever seen be “accepted” without Elite is Condi Engi but would be nice to see others as well. Bu then if you didn’t bring Chrono to the table what do you bring?

Ranger is also brought without Druid so long as you don’t need healing, having Druid in your traits literally ruins your damage potential.

I didn’t say not to buff base Mesmer damage, I was saying not to buff chrono damage, saying “we need to buff chrono damage” implies you want to increase the damage you deal when you take the chrono trait line, which shouldn’t happen.

Buffing baseline Mesmer is the appropriate approach, chrono doesn’t need to bring more than it already does for Mesmer, but Mesmer certainly needs to be CAPABLE of filling damage roles instead of being forced into an alacrity not role like it currently is.

With beast mastery the Jaguars CD is like 19s

30 seconds cd according to wiki, that should translate to 24 seconds when traited, not 19, unless the wiki is wrong.

i never see my jaguar NOT crit while stalking, so I’d imagine it’s just the crit damage and how high it’s crit becomes pushes it over the edge.

Hm yeah, those six seconds with +25% crit DAMAGE seems to compensate quite well. But on the other hand, if a jaguar gains +25% crit CHANCE during stalk and crits more or less on every single attack during that time, a tiger should crit more or less on every single attack due to constantly having +20% crit chance. What’s the base chance to crit for cats?
Also, Furious Pounce deals a lot of damage, which should compensate quite a bit compared to the ferocity gain the jaguar gains during Stalk.

Anyone care to do some maths? I’m just wondering if pets actually benefits from fury?
Easiest way to test that I guess is in the testing arena with/without permanent fury buff applied to the pet.

Just checked in game, it literally says 19 3/4 for the CD, so the wiki is wrong. Also, i don’t think it just increases the jaguars crit chance by 20%, crit damage, it absolutely does, but crit chance no. Over the course of 10 minutes of attacking a golem it has not failed to crit a single time while in stealth.

Additionally, with the pet menu open when the jaguar stealths the ferocity stat increases, but the precision stat remains the same. I’m pretty certain that the jaguar crits 100% of the time while stealthed, where out of stealth with fury it does not, which means that it’s certainly not sitting at like 80% crit chance normally.

The test for the crits when it was stealthed was done with no boons.

Guard....why?

The main reason you would take guard over protect me or signet of stone is that guard applies to allies as well as yourself, and is also a way to stack might. Not to mention if you’re running a tankier pet like a spider, drake, pig, bear, moa, etc your pet won’t be in any REAL danger.

Additionally, guard is NOT a boon, so the only 2 ways they can get rid of that damage reduction is to either A) kill your pet, or you swap your pet, where protection can both be corrupted or removed.

I personally run both protect me and guard so I have the AoE damage reduction, and an AoE stun break + a personally damage reduction and taunt.

Jaguar – 1117
Tiger – 1110 DPS

How come Tiger doesn’t outdamage the other cats since it should have more or less permanent 20% higher chance to crit compared to the others (well, jaguar gains +25% critical chance and +25% critical damage when using stalk, but that only lasts for six seconds out of 24 seconds).

Test against the moving golem in the SFTA;

Tiger – 944 DPS

Fire Wyvern – 166 DPS (How pathetic is that, this test took 20 minutes to deal 200,000 damage)

Bristleback – 923 DPS (The real surprise here, it should be fairly similar due to being a long range pet, but its greatly increased, this show the DPS test in the 1st test needs to be run much longer to get a better average)

Smoke Scale – 582 DPS (AA very rarely connects)

Forest Spider – 582 DPS (Identical to Smokescale in damage and time, 344s)

Hawk – 800 DPS (Quite telling, not a big drop from a stationary foe, the 300 range AA makes a big difference here)

Red Moa – 470 DPS

Brown Bear – 270 DPS

Lashtail Devourer – 485 DPS (The 10% chance to poison on the AA could be made 100% and this pet would be quite improved for moving enemies)

I didn’t bother doing anymore because I ended up finding a link to a good amount of data that did this testing extensively at http://guildwarshub.com/ranger-pet-dps-comparison/

Keep in mind that chart uses the build that’ll give the absolute highest dps possible for a pet, you’re doing a test that’ll show the more common pet damage numbers.

Gonna just mention this again since it’s a common trend on DPS tests, the brown bear is going to do less damage than he would in a real fight, since they only use their bite attack (only other offensive move) when they have taken damage, so if they’re at full health they wont use their highest damage ability because it applies regen and the AI seems to think it needs health missing to use it.

Not that i don’t think it wont be dead last still, but it’ll probably beat the wyverns.

Also, you say you used the F2 on every pet but smokescale, fernhound, and boar, so that’d mean every ~20s or so you had your bear clearing condis instead of doing damage.

So, since no ones said it yet, can we please get a buff to Hyenas? I’m not asking for them to have the same power as a normal canine, but maybe have a bit more than half? At the moment, even with their friend out they don’t deal nearly enough damage to make it worthwhile.

We should either have more power brought back to them, or my personal favorite, remove the time limit on the hyena ally so we can once again have a legion of Hyenas at our beck and call given enough time…. i miss those days…

The number one thing i’d say is needed is a complete balance pass on all of our pets, every pet family should have a role/niche and they should be balanced around said niche. It’s obvious that’s the intent, but a lot of them are so horribly dated that they desperately need love, EX: Moas are clearly meant for support, but only have an F2 and a heal that really fill that role (sadly). And Pigs are meant to be tanky, but i mean that’s all they’ve got since their awesome stun doesn’t hit enough, and their bleed attack might as well just be their auto.

All I’ve gotta say is that if you are capable of losing 100 games in a row there’s something wrong with the match making, I don’t care how unbelievably bad at the game you are, you should not be capable of losing that many games in a row. the only scenario I could see that being possible is if someone whose true place in PvP was Amber Tier 1 was playing on their friends account in Legendary/Diamond, but in any real scenario it shouldn’t be happening.

I do not want to sound elitist, so I apologize in advance If I do.

I think the real problem with MM is not just the MMR or whatever, the problem is the pvp population who are skilled (mechanical,map awareness, rotations, pvp basics) only account for atleast ~20% of the people who que.

While the remaining 80% are either average, have no idea what they are doing, terrible mechanically, oblivious the other points except the point they are on, just started pvp, old pve players who jumped on the pvp train for the shinies, or a combination of all those.

So when the ~20% of the pvp population moves up in the higher divisions, the 80% are now on an FFA with random chances of getting the type of players that I mentioned.

My experience till ruby is very good, matched with ESL players or people who know about pvp, now when those players move up to diamond (either by winstreaks or luck or playing a lot of games) Everyone left in lower divisions will be a cesspool.

I had match that was 4v5 since the start in ruby and we still won.

TLDR: I think GW2 PvP population is comprised of majority of bad, average, plain out oblivious players, Hence you get MUCH MORE AWFUL games than decent ones.

EXACTLY MY POINT. You know why good players get stuck? because the probability of them getting teamed up with BADDIES is Higher because the bad population outnumber the good.

That is the point. My point is also accentuated when the good players (who were lucky, had the time to grind, etc) are in higher divisions.

So who are those in lower divisions with the casual skilled players?

I was out of town the whole week this season started due to work, got back to be paired with players that were so unbearably bad I can’t even bring myself to even want to play sPvP anymore this season.

I’ve literally watched my team try to rotate as the enemy showed up to points, leave rangers in downed states in 1v1s, leave a fight when I come to +1 it so we could win, etc.

Yea it is terrible, only way around this problem is that you have to play when the season starts, that way you will be on the same pace as the skilled players moving up to the divisions, avoiding that cesspool together. This ensures you get quality players on both sides.

This wasnt true for me in S2. Came in 15 days from the end. I loved my teammates, I seemed to get people who listened and stuck to the plan/good rotations almost every match.

The other teams seemed almost exclusively awful though, by comparison. At least until the later games which you can see by the scores.

I very much enjoyed Season 2 since it matches your team based on your MMR then threw you against another team in the division, so if you were a good player you played with similar skilled players and possibly against the kittenters until you left the kittenters in the dust and started having real matches.

Season 3 just pairs you by division, so it opens the flood gates of kittenters and makes you lose faith in humanity with every game.

EDIT: and just an FYI I’ve been progressing my win rate is like 57-65% but it’s easily one of the most miserable experiences I’ve had, I don’t choose to PvP to be the baby sitter of a bunch of idiots and carry my idiots to victory while kicking the other idiots away from me as I try to climb the ladder, it’s neither fun or exciting.

My favorite rune set as a Druid, is the runes of the flock for vicious attack birds that blind while I heal.

As for when I’m playing as a ranger I really like Ogre for the rock dog, kinda sad it’s no longer in sPvP, in there I’ll kitten around with grove a bit

I don’t think a lot of rangers realize that they can completely ignore Druid and be totally fine…. In fact if your goal is to kill things Druid is a DPS nerf in any and all situations where you’re 1) not condi, and 2) you can’t CC the target.

IE: unless you need the healing you don’t need Druid.

I would gladly lose perma regen for having the thing pulse resistance, if I wanted to have perma regen i would just take shouts anyway, water spirit needs something else to make it useful, and resistance when traited would certainly give it a niche in our heal skill selections.

I would like if the trait brought back our Healing Spring pulsing vigor. The trait that made it so healing gave vigor died with the trait rework, and you only ever took it on Healing Spring for the AoE vigor pulses, so they could always just put that on the trapper trait for our “support traps”

As cool as those ideas are, they’re not that useful. I wouldn’t mind something more on lines of stuff like that (hits a bunch of players and they’re under those effects for however long the spirits alive), but the effects would have to be a lot different than those for spirits to be viable.

Jeweler is pretty useless, however it’s nice for turning T5 gems into T6 gems, and is required for a few items (IE Mawdrey), but even then I wouldn’t waste much time on it, if anything just throw it on an alt to have it.

What about shortbow is hybrid? Looks full on condition to me.

The auto has reasonably high power coefficients, and the rest of the skills don’t apply any worthwhile condition pressure.

Poison Spread is a worthless skill outside PvP due to its marginal poison duration, and one skill is a cripple while the other makes pets apply bleeds which are weaker than yours because for some reason they won’t make pets scale off the ranger’s own stats.

Shortbow is eclipsed in condi pressure by mainhand axe and power damage by longbow.

It’s actually only weaker if you have over 1k condi damage, 1350k if you have the trait in WS. So if you use any low stat condi amulet in PvP (like rampagers) your pet will be doing more damage, and if you’re using merc amulet you’ll be doing about the same, but ya, let’s just keep ignoring that bit of info.

Any of the builds from before the S&R buff are still fine. Two CC gylphs and PM or whatever floats your boat. We still have massive CC and movement.

But its still the Staff/X right?

I have been experimenting with core ranger SB a lot and the damage is just… This is even with remorseless.

Ew, why are you running remorseless on SB? It’s a hybrid sustain damage weapon, there’s absolutely no big single hitting attack in its whole kit. Go with like BM/Skirmishing/WS with companions might, and sharpened edges, it’s much more effective, especially if you run a cat +something tankier to hide the injured cat behind

Ya, but all remorseless does is make your NEXT attack deal more damage and crit, but SB is all about hitting them with a ton of little attacks, if anything take Predators Onslaught to benefit from the 2s daze/stun on your 5 skill (4s with MoC), and the cripple from your 4, that’d up your damage A LOT more than just 150% crit on your next auto/single poison arrow from 2

Any of the builds from before the S&R buff are still fine. Two CC gylphs and PM or whatever floats your boat. We still have massive CC and movement.

But its still the Staff/X right?

I have been experimenting with core ranger SB a lot and the damage is just… This is even with remorseless.

Ew, why are you running remorseless on SB? It’s a hybrid sustain damage weapon, there’s absolutely no big single hitting attack in its whole kit. Go with like BM/Skirmishing/WS with companions might, and sharpened edges, it’s much more effective, especially if you run a cat +something tankier to hide the injured cat behind

Why change path of scar?

Path of scars is a lot better now, if I know I can hit my target I can just throw it right on top of them to guarantee the second hit will land too, if not I can always throw it a bit further and then position myself so that the second hit will land. It also isn’t useless near cliffs and walls now.

You do realize if you stack 25 might on yourself that the warrior and rev might stacking then goes to another player who wasn’t at 25 right? Which would increase the whole raids damage output. Also axe has, and always will be, one of our best condi damage weapons, there’s a reason Axe/Torch is used in every condi build we’ve ever had.

Healing Spring isn’t bad, it barely even changed, the only reason no one uses it now is that all the other heals became kittening amazing instead of just “ok”.

I sadly don’t think we’re getting compensated for this overall nerf, I mean sure, i do like that i wont have the risk of throwing myself off of a cliff anymore, and that’s great, but in every other scenario I liked sticking to my target like glue/ being able to throw myself away from a fight from the auto chain alone, and then come back.

I just hope we got some compensation for our lack of sticking power…

Necro scepter 3? 100% of all players in 100% of matches are playing necro, so I assume it’s a necro applying it to you.

I assumed it was a necro too, but i couldn’t think of a way they would apply it other than deathshroud, but they’re all reapers so they don’t have the same skill…

What's the Appeal of Alpine Borderlands?

So, I’m hardly a hardcore WvW player, and I was actually a pretty big fan of most of the desert borderland and HoT changes, but I’m very clearly in the minority of this.

So I was just wondering why you, actual WvWers, like the Alpine Borderlands so much more than the Desert Borderland.

Please keep your post simple (no walls if you can avoid it), just a simple, what’s good what’s bad sort of thing, I’m just trying to figure out why everyone hates the Desert Borderlands so much, I mean hell, maybe it could help anet redesign it too so that we could potentially have 2 borderlands!

I really hope that they can make some changes to Desert Borderlands, and maybe even make a 3rd like jungle borderlands or something and then have all 3 of them up at once.

But alas, that’s just wishful thinking…. at least there’ll be people to play with in WvW Borderlands again.

Can we expect to see Desert Borderland come back? Or like rotate in or anything? I really enjoy Desert Borderland and would love to see it rotate in and out if possible (after some changes are made ofc). If not, i’ll be upset, but at least i’ll be able to go into WvW and play in the borderlands instead of just having no one there…

Rangers and Short Bows

I was doing a daily fractal run, just getting my 3 in right, should be an easy day and easy run, and then all of a sudden some guy in our groups flips out that one of the rangers used a shortbow, I mean he just totally lost his mind over this and dropped group.

Can someone explain that to me?

(for the record we completed the fractals just fine)

It’s because the ranger wasn’t using the “optimal” physical damage weapon(s). From my experience shortbow is fine as long as you’re in a more condi or hybrid damage build, which that ranger may have very well been in and would’ve made the weapon totally fine. However, that guy doesn’t know that, and probably got really upset for absolutely no reason.

Just to chime in on the s/d vs gs discussion. After queuing on my core ranger and just LOVING greatsword, it is the one ranger weapon where I really feel I can outplay other players the most, I thought that if might be a superior option for me personally than s/d. I did some duels vs my teammates zeromis/supcutie, and although GS could often quickly win me the fight with good CC chains, when I swapped back to s/d It was clear how much more of an advantage I had.

@ Durzlla, I would argue that with all the torment you have seen I would say s/d is clearly the better option. If you avoid getting hit by the shatters altogether, you have no torment to worry about in the first place.

That being said, I run neither S/D or GS, which does hurt my defense (absolutely no argument there), but i just haven’t needed it, i have enough healing output, and dodges and damage mitigation as is that I’ve taken axe/axe for a more utility based weapon set, it works well with my group of players and their builds.

That being said, if I do run into the need of more defenses I’ll probably swap between GS and S/D until i find one i prefer more, i’d probably lean more towards GS because of the utility. S/D is a set i prefer to use when i simply can’t afford to be hit by bursts, where GS certainly gives me more overall coverage, which is what i’d look for since i mainly bunker.
