“Which Lo Pan? Little ol’ basket case on wheels, or the ten-foot-tall roadblock?!”
-Kurt Russell, Big Trouble in Little China
5 man NERF plus 1 (I know she was an Ele. Sorry I can’t remember your name!) vs. RUN in Kaineng BL…
That was a hell of a good time, RUN! Great fights, y’all!
Keeping tabs on where RUN was going to show up next was what we were trying to do.
All in all, that was some serious fun, RUN and co.! That Hammer Warrior was insanely good
/bow
To the Kaineng Engineer who we killed in Vale Supply Camp, I did a /cry because I hate killing other Engineers.
We were working on point defense, getting a few strategies down, and using the TS to the best of our ability.
TC and FA… get over it. Move on. Diashame is right. All the chest thumping is absolutely unnecessary. Actions speak louder than words, folks. Leave the ‘Forum Warrior antics to 12 year olds. Don’t respond. Move on.
Kaineng and Sea of Sorrows players…
I’ve been learning alot on playstyles. Kaineng is solid, and moves really well. Sea of Marks… Just Kidding! Sea of Sorrows I understand you lost some major guilds, but kitten #8230; you guys are seriously good at what you do.
The few times I’ve been on I’ve seen nothing but outstanding gameplay from all three Servers. Everyone is gettin’ loot…and…wait for it….ACTUALLY HAVING A GOOD TIME
And finally, because I haven’t posted this in awhile, and because it makes me laugh…
Ladies, ladies…
Yer all purdee!
Internet is back! See you all tonight!
We’re just a bunch of crazy Engineers that love to have fun. We don’t roll with any of the “I have leet skillz lulz pwnd u” types. We could care less.
That night was hilarious, as are all our outings
Our TS is rife with much laughter, and general chit-chat.

Talk about a total bummer!
Yesterday…work from 7 AM til around 11:45ish PM…drinking coffee ALL. DAY.
Come home wired, ready to toss mines, Thumper Turrets, Net Turrets, BBQ some people with the NERF Special Sauce and a side of Grits…
30 minutes in…Internet Crashes…
Ah well. The times I’ve been on, it’s been great. Solid gameplay and sportsmanship from Kaineng and Sea of Sorrows. Also, nice to see folks in these forums ACTUALLY HAVING FUN!
Marks on the ground…SoS…Okay… jots down some notes and smiles… Well played, ladies and gents…well played…
I run a Turret/Bomb Build in WvW, with 30/0/30/0/10…
Some see the turrets as underpowered and weak. It’s true, they are. They melt easily but can do wonderful things. Turn that weakness into a Strength! On of our guildies in NERF brought this to our attention…
Using Supply Crate and having the Accelerant Packed Turrets Trait can ruin a zerg’s day, due to knockback and knockdown, as well as the two second stun from the Dropped Crate. Thief went all Shadow Refuge on you? Drop the Crate in that big ol’ target, then lay waste to that Regen Zone! Also, for some fun, swap to Throw Mine…AoE Boon Stripping! With other Engineers, it’s like playing Pinball. Also traited to help the team are Elixir Infused Bombs(why solo when you can run with a group and have fun with others?
)
Just a few things I do. Also, we may not be the biggest damage dealers, but we do have other tricks…
YB has always had class, even when I called TC my home.
DB has some solid tactics, and are a fun bunch to fight
Good to see you guys again
.
Best of luck to all!
I can attest to the power of Turrets, even in a 1v1 in WvW…
This is what happened…
this was playing when the “Turret Incident” occured. The track on my playlist fit PERFECT
Saw a Thief at Briar come at me, so I ran across the bridge to Ruins. Right before I got past the end of the bridge, I dropped a Healing Turret. Kept running. Looking back, the Thief was right on top of it. BOOM! Detonate! He was knocked back, but got up and continued to chase. Top of the stairs in Ruins, I made a Right, and Dropped Rocket Turret, overcharged it. Kept running. Sure enough, he ran into a flaming rocket that knocked him down and did 2k burning damage, but he still kept coming. I see his head pop up at the top of the stairs…BOOM! Detonate. Another Knockback. I drop a Net Turret behind one of the pillars, and stand out in the open. He comes in close, and get’s hit with a Net. I wait, he starts moving…Supply Crate! Swap to grenades and just tossed Poison Grenade, Freeze Grenade, Grenade Barrage. He tried to run, but I overcharged the Net Turret. Stunned and Immobilized. And…Detonate AGAIN. I was only denied my FINISH HIM! because his buddies showed up…
I don’t run WvW unless I have turrets. The Heal Turret is so good now. It’s also awesome as a a Water Field! Deploy the turret, then a “One One Thou”(verbatim. Say this then, detonate), detonate, BOOM! AREA HEAL.
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
I like your ideas for Projectile and Leap Finishers, BUT I’d rather see an AoE Burn from a Blast Finisher. This would be a fun field for sure!
This would be cool. The oil slick would need to be on the ground longer. Instead of Super Speed, get an “Ignite Oil” option
Saw a guy run at me with a gear, ready to chunk it(yeah I knew the drill, hehe).
Dropped a Supply Crate on him, deployed Net Turret and a Rocket Turret…
Bombs, Turret Detonation.
Gear tosser down.
I could care less about that Consumable.
This is one of the dumbest threads I’ve ever read. If you actually expect the devs to change one of their races you are delusional.
Someone told me about this thread, and I thought ‘Must be a joke, right?’…
The above quoted read my mind.
This topic of a whole race being OP is simply RIDICULOUS.
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
At NERF, the All Engineer Guild who calls Fort Aspenwood home, we run ’Builds of The Week"…
We ran with this Turret based build, complete with Bomb Kit, in WvW.

Primary Weapon Choice doesn’t matter. P/S, P/P, or Rifle. All works nicely.
I use Accelerant Packed Turrets for the added CC of Knockdown and Knockback.
Gear is centered around P/V/T, with Sapphire and Emerald Exotic Jewelry.
Never enough Turrets. Good time last night!

I have used this in WvW, and have had a good amount of success. Turret placement combined with terrain equals SURPRISE SUCKA!!
Drop the turrets if you got someone chasing you. Wait for them to get close then detonate. Keep getting distance, so you can buy some time to find the higher ground. Toss a freeze grenade to slow em down. Hide a net turret out of his LOS. They will never see it coming. Poison grenade, grenade barrage, supply crate. Jump shot, Blunderbuss, Net Shot, Shrapnel Grenade. Detonate Turret. Save Heal Turret. This build is all about CONTROL. Yours. You are dictating the terms of engagement. Not the enemy.
With a small(5 to 10 people) havoc squad, I have used this to great effect. Solo as well. I use P/V/T with Superior Runes of the Dolyak, half Sapphire Cleric’s, half Emerald Knight’s exotics for jewelry.
Because people like the complain.
MMO forums are a vile place.
This. Always this. This statement is the only true thing in MMO Forums. The rest is irrelevant :)
For the The Tools, go for Power Wrench. Nothing like a Static Shield, Static Shot, then Prybar. Watch the ROFLCOPTER Warrior kill himself. It is a riot.
To that Maguuma Thief who followed me into Ruins on DB Borderlands…
Good fight, my friend
An interesting and awesome track that seems to pop up on my playlist every time FA defends a keep or tower:
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
And now, for some late game music:
Just make one in the Mystic Forge. It’s not that hard. Just keep throwing lv 80 Rares of the weapon type you want, and a Precursor will pop out eventually.
A friend of mine dropped 200 Rares in the Mystic Forge…
Guess what?
Nada. Zip. Zilch.
And I laughed my butt off at him.
As for me, I could care less. I’m in no rush to get the Precursor. The Legendary does the same Damage as my Exotic Legionnaire Rifle. The Difference? The Rifle only cost me 3 Gold. The Hunter? Last I checked it was over 400 Gold.
We need to have one, epic, climactic battle…
in the middle lake of any of our respective BLs.
Underwater combat is so much!
Nice to read a fun, hilarious, good natured WvW Forum Thread without all the usual crap that goes with it.
And now, for your listening pleasure…
“Everybody Lies”, by Michael McCann, Deus Ex: Human Revolution OST
Good fights all around!
Stealth nerfed from a tree to a bush. I am laughing so hard right now….
took me a couple of minutes to type this post. HILARIOUS!
I put this track on before I get into WvW. Every Time
Good fights in EB at SMC last night, BG and TC!
Layvue of ECHO did an incredible job rallying FA for continuous pushes. Excellent work, my friend!
There’s alot of good things for the Engineer class. We’re like a Jack-in-The-Box to someone who hates surprises.
After much tinkering, I have found that…
In WvW, I have noticed that other classes are starting to run away from us.
Why?
Because they don’t know what we are going to do next
I use a combo of both grenades and Mortar in WvW. Run up on a keep, drop Mortar, and wait for a bunch to gather in one of the battelments. Announce to my team “goin’ to make it rain, folks!”… Concussion Barrage. Enemies are on the ground and ready to get eaten.
I will often get off my Mortar, swap to grenades, then start strafing the walls, attempting to herd the enemy to that battlement for a rinse repeat.
Regarding numbers and whatnot…
Don’t give up, Ryuherz
Watch this. Watch how this small group WRECKS the Larger Ones.
Watch the map. They stay in a tight formation, are constantly moving, and are constantly BUFFED.
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
I took on a Thief. As an Engineer, we have certain things we can do.
Thief went Captain Shadow Refuge on me in a corner when his health went low…
To quote Ripley from ALIENS…
“I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”
Dropped a Supply Crate into the Shadow Refuge(2 second Stun). Jump Shot in Refuge. Grenade Barrage. Swap to Grenade Kit. Another Grenade Barrage. Superior Sigil of Geomancy Procs (7 second Bleed) when I swapped. Shrapnel Grenade.
Cleveland Voice
Annnnnd….Boom There goes the Dynamite.
Didn’t even have to use Elixir S for TINY DUNK.
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
I love 100nades. It’s not OP.
Remember that the other classes have Dodges, Stun Breaks, Shouts, Stealth, Blinds, Bleeds, Confusions as well. Engineers have..Gadgets. So when someone says such and such is OP, I have to shake my head.
That other opponent is not going to stand still and let you Grenade Hug ’em. They are going to try and get away!
Lord Aargadon is correct in that So many things can screw this up in WvW, or PvP.
*Net Shot Could Miss.
*You could get OBSTRUCTED when you try and Jump Shot.
*Grenades may miss if you are not on top of your opponent.
*You may have conditions, which may put you in a Hold, a Blind, or a Cripple.
*Terrain is a big issue.
*You are trying to keep from dying…just like that Thief who likes to poke you from the shadows.
I don’t have crazy Crit Chance, but when it hits, the Crit Damage is vicious. It’s a build that can give a Bursting with Four Flavors D/D Ele, a WTFROFLCOPTER Warrior, or a Captain Shadow Refuge Thief a run for their money.
Not to mention that it is finally nice to not have an opponent run away when their health is low…BECAUSE THEY CAN’T. They’re already down for the count
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
And now, for your weekly musical INTERMISSION…
In the Maguuma Borderlands, in Arah’s(equivalent? NW Supply Camp), where I fought a Ranger and a Guardian about an hour ago…
Good fight, fellas
Anyone running this in WvW? If so, how are you gearing? (Stats on gear, jewelry, gems—runes and sigils used?).
I normally play TankCAT, or FlameCAT. However, a fellow Engineer told me about the 100nades…
I have had good success with this build in WvW, and was literally amazed when I burst down a D/D Ele so fast. Cornered a Thief, ran the rotation, and it was like butter hitting a hot skillet(was especially gratifying after he dropped Shadow Refuge right when I was doing the Grenade Barrage+Swap Grenade Kit PBAoE). Didn’t even have to FINISH HIM!(though I still popped Elixir S for TINY DUNK)
I use the following for my build:
Superior Runes of the Dolyak(went broke getting them for the TankCAT build), with a mixture of Orrian Karma gear consisting of:
Precision/Toughness/Crit Damage/Power
For my Rifle, I went with a Superior Sigil of Geomancy. Adds extra Bleed for 7 seconds, which I like(and the effect looks awesome combined with the WTF Grenade Barrage).
Jewelry is a combo of Emerald Orichalcum/Ruby Orichalcum Berserker’s with Crests of the Soldier, Rabid, and Ruby Orbs.
I have long tried to find a build that provides good survivability with above average damage for WvW. TankCAT was fun(and still is), FlameCAT is nuts (BURN BABY BURN!),but with the Runes I have, I call it the NadeCAT, and it is GLORIOUS.
People vented their frustration by making jokes instead of writing hate mail. I fail to see the problem with that.
This. We joke around now because it’s become ‘common’, and ‘normal’ to expect the class to get dirt kicked on it.
Just the other day I was explaining to someone about the Engineer. “Wow. You guys have all that? I think those grenades are OP.”
I laughed. SO. HARD. Why? Because he plays a Thief EXCLUSIVELY.
More than anything I have learned to take things in stride with the Engineer. It’s easy to be pessimistic. But it’s fun to joke around and have a few laughs
I would say that the engineer is “ehhhh” in WvW right now. There’s a lot of fun to be had, but any time spent with other classes will illustrate that the engineer is noticeably weaker. While a few tweaks and bug fixes would go a long way to helping the class, many believe that there are some serious underlying issues that will need to be solved before the engineer begins to resemble something that’s considered good.
While I have fun blasting away with my Rifle, running into mobs and dropping a crapton of Bombs, I have to agree there are some serious underlying issues with Engineer.
I took a break from my Engineer in WvW, and played my Thief(who just got to 80). He has some level 74-76 exotics with Rare weapons and Jewelry around lvl 65.
Racked up 34 badges in about 2 hours.
And no. I don’t run with Shadow Refuge. D/P and D/D. Signet of Shadows, Signet of Infiltration, and Roll for Initiative with Thieves Guild as the Elite Skill.
Why?
Thief is EASY MODE compared to the skill level required to play an Engineer.
Mind you, I’m not griping, or whining. This is a comparison only.
I love my Engineer. I love messing with a small group of people. I love the fact that I have sparked so much fury that at one point no less than 10 enemies chased my from Gods to Arah’s…NO LIE. I love it when a Thief tries to do a sneak attack and winds up with a Prybar to the face. I love it when a D/D Ele begins their ‘Churn’, only to have me drop a concussion bomb and a Big Ol’ Bomb right on them before dodging away.
I love it when Warriors do their WTFROFLCOPTER Hundred Blades thingamabob only to hit a Static Shield and a Static Shot that Confuses and stuns them. I love drinking Elixir X and turning into a Tornado, knocking people down, or outright knocking them off a cliff.
Just my two cents.
Great build! Trying it out now. Good stuff
In regards to Kit Refinement and Tool Kit, however, I noticed that I am not dropping an ‘extra’ Box of Nails. Anyone else having issues like this?
I recently started tinkering with Bombs. Gotta say you can have ALOT of fun with it messing with people in WvW or sPvP.
Using BoB, then Glue Bomb, then Concussion Bomb…
Last night I decided to use Bomb Kit and Thumper turret on the Bridge between Hills and Lowlands. Tossed Elixir S and Stealthed, ran forward, dropped BoB and Thumper Turret in the middle of the enemy group, then overcharged the Turret…BoB and Turret launches enemies off the bridge and down to the waters below. Hilarious!
Granted I got lucky…and was like “WTF IT WORKED! LOL!”
I use Superior Sigil of Purity, which gives a 60% chance on Crit to Remove a Condition regarding my Pistol/Shield Combo. My Crit chance is low, but I have noticed that, more often than not, I will see three conditions removed fast when I’m using my Pistol, or my FLAME JET. Not sure if this is a bug or working as intended, but I really don’t worry about it anymore since giving this Sigil a shot.
I transferred from TC to FA two weeks ago due to the All Engineer Guild, NERF, being based in FA.
I was there when they were in third place, and saw how hard they fought.
Trust me when I say that FA does MORE with LESS.
I can tell you that I have had an absolute blast playing with these people.
Speaking with them on TS3, I found them to be knowledgeable, and their WvW Commanders are more than capable. I would describe FA’s WvW as “Relaxed Confidence”.
Overall some great people!
I saw D/P in the thread and had to read it, as I don’t see many with this.
I have been loving D/P and D/D build, with emphasis on Bleed Damage.

(copy and paste into new tab. Y’all know the drill
)
I’m not very coordinated so I tend to use Condition Damage to keep the damage running. So basically for me, burst damage is out of the question because of my lack of skills. Traits for initiative and Vigor to keep me moving.
I usually start off with D/D, CnD, Backstab, Death Blossom, then swap, so my Sigils of Geomancy can keep the bleeds going for another 7 seconds, while I pop Black Powder and Heartseeker. I like using Roll for Initiative followed by Shadow Shot to get in close for the Auto-attack. They try to run, I swap back to D/D, thereby activating my Sigil of Hydromancy to slow them for 3 seconds(I’m slow, so this helps out alot
)
Keeping them blind with Shadow Shot, Signet of Shadows, and Head Shot for the Interrupts also helps me. Using Signet of Infiltration also is nice, in case you are on your back you get back up and in the opponent’s face
Primarily I play an Engineer, so I’m trying new things out. I just dinged 80, so I’m constantly on the look out for ideas.
Thanks for the thread!
Same here! I’m hoping to get some advice for a Healing/Toughness/Vitality(I know this probably doesn’t exist for gear stats) focused support Guardian, and could use any help I can get!
:)
Regarding the Jumping Puzzles…
I rarely do them because I don’t have a heck of a lot of coordination. I know there is one in EB, I just haven’t felt the need to pop in there and do it. Too busy goofing off with my fellow freaks in FA
Regarding servers and the “forum warriors”…
EVERY SERVER’S got kittenty players who make the rest of us look bad. EVERY. SERVER. Whether it be exploits, hacking, poor sportsmanship, or whatever.
So…
Be Cool. Chill out. Smile. And most importantly….
LET. IT. SLIDE.
You’ll feel better. Trust me
Edit: This song has been on my WvW Playlist, and since transferring from TC to FA, reminds me of FA players and their tenacity
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
Excellent Video.
It’s always exciting for me when I see what other people are doing with the wide array of powers at our disposal.
Which leads me to believe it’s not the class that’s versatile, it’s the PLAYER
I guess I shouldn’t have posed this as a question, hehe…
I get where everyone is coming from.
More than anything, I’m not as well versed, nor as coordinated as some Engineers. Thus this thread.
More than anything I was wanting some thoughts and experiences on these Combo Finishers, because, as all of us Engineers know, our class has some issues that need to be addressed.
Thanks for the responses, everyone
Just to get this thread started, and to read some ideas out there…
What is the Strength of the Engineer? Regarding all the problems, nerfs, and bugs we endure and work with, what do you see as the core strength?
For me, as the title suggests, it is Combo Finishers.
Looking at the kits and elixirs, I am wanting to see if anyone else has thought of Combo Finishers and working them into their builds.
In WvW the other night, I found myself doing AREA RETALIATION and AREA MIGHT alot with the combo of Super Elixir and Napalm with Magnetic Inversion. As such, I did some more research, and came across a Combo Finisher list and started to tinker around with my build, and perhaps to see if I could Strengthen those Finishers with an attempt at a ‘Combo Finisher Build’.
http://mastodonte.fr/outils/tool-combo#fr
That being said, this is an attempt at using other kits to set these up for our teammates(I rarely run solo because I’m an average player, but have a few decent moments) when in WvW.
What are your thoughts on this?
(Edit: If this topic has already been discussed, then ignore it. Forum Moderator can delete it if necessary

Personally speaking, I am glad I made the jump a week and a half ago from TC to FA. Had nothing to do with bandwagoning, just saw Charr Penguin starting NERF, and thought ‘do it!’ and moved.
If NERF was in Crystal Desert, Isle of Janthir, or any other server, I would have moved there.
Lo and behold, the WvW population was low, but what the FA commanders do is nothing short of amazing to me. “Doing MORE with LESS”, has, for me, been the hallmark of Fort Aspenwood, even when I was in Tarnished Coast(with Yak’s Bend a close second). Now that I was seeing what little the FA Commanders had to work with, I could see that only made them better, more cohesive.
Now I call Fort Aspenwood my home. I’ve learned ALOT about WvW and team tactics (I was never really focused, just a wandering maniac swinging a Wrench and burnin’ people with a Flamethrower…wait. I still do that
) from guilds such as RET, BT, and GODS. Learned the value of LISTENING, ASKING QUESTIONS, and paying attention to my teammates’ actions rather than my own.
And for those guilds from IoJ we are glad to have you. I have seen nothing but coordination and cooperation on the BLs.
After TS3 with some of the people in FA, I gotta say the general attitude is one of relaxed confidence. In TS3, not once have I heard anything less than “Good job everyone. Okay, let’s get to work fortifying [Insert Keep Name Here].”
At any rate, good fights all around, Dragonbrand and Crystal Desert!
Edit: Gotta give a Shoutout to KH, Kwisatz Haderach, on Crystal Desert. I’m a fan of DUNE, and when I saw that Guild Name y’all immediately went into my cool book…and you are fun to fight!
(edited by Ejiofor.4801)
I find that having a huge FLAME JET spewing forward will make most opponents in WvW back up. This weapon is INTIMIDATING. Drop Napalm, swap to P/S, pop Magnetic Shield, and you have AREA MIGHT for 4 stacks, plus a Knockback. Swap back to FT and continue with the Flame Jet. Drop Napalm, swap to Tool Kit, and pull them to you through the fire line, lighting them on FIRE. Air Blast for those idiots that get too close(can knockback MULTIPLE OPPONENTS)
I have noticed that at times, when enemies are spread apart, I wind up hitting them and THEN SOME. Add to that Precise Sights(50% Vulnerability on Crit), and the steady stream of Fire will give out some good damage(odd that my low crit, 41%, procs quite a few time while spewing Flame Jet). This will also make you a target for your enemy to focus on(I have received numerous CTRL+T reticles at my feet).
Good luck for this week, everyone! Welcome, IoJ guilds to FA!
