Great Video! I’ve been running something similar (I LOVE Withdraw! Awesomely sweet CD, and an Evade. Can’t beat that!), except I’ve dumped a lot of points in Trickery (Thrill of the Crime and Bountiful Theft). I love applying Poison on Steal, Swapping from Shortbow to P/D, triggering the Sigil of Geomancy, CnD, Skale Venom, then the Stealth Unload with Skill 1. Too hot? Shadow Strike Away and drop Caltrops. Still too hot? Withdraw and bring out your Thieves Guild.

I tried the D/D and D/P combo, and to be honest I’m not very good with Stealth Mechanics. Thus, I opted for Conditions, and more of a group Support Role.

Good to see other folks using the P/D setup. It’s really fun!

I’ve recently started to play my Thief again, as I’ve been focused on leveling my Guardian…

I decided to go the “Evade, distance, and Poison” Route. I am having a lot of fun using Pistol/Dagger Combo, and primarily use Choking Gas, Caltrops, and Disabling Shot back to back. Using Shadow Strike is another “I’m gonna hit you and just go…there” type of deal.

This is my build. I’m only level 47 at the moment, but so far I’ve had some good success with this build in WvW(the few times I’ve been roaming ). This is the route I will be taking

Solid Build for me

A few months ago I started a P/D and SB Thief, with Skale Venom, Caltrops, a Spike Trap, with Thieves Guild. I use the Heal Evade.

As I suck at anything remotely related to Stealth, I focused on a strength. Distance and Condition Damage.

Overall I’m really enjoying this build. Though only lvl 42, I was able to win a 1v1 in WvW against a full on lvl 80 Ranger. I got lucky. Those Torments saved my butt lol.

The short cooldown on the heal evade skill also saved me more times than I could count. Applying Poison with Steal, and getting the Might helped as well.

And for the record I main an Rifle SD/ Turrets/Tool Kit Engineer. I always enjoy fighting Thieves. For me, they are my real challenge

Using the Overcharge on the Heal Turret, with the other two turrets in your Utilities, you can blast THREE WATER FIELDS, if you time it right.

Also, you can easily swap out the Runes of the Traveler for the cheaper Superior Runes of the Engineer. That last Rune, I would put either an Undead Rune in (Condition Damage), or something with Toughness.

As a co-leader and co-founder of [NERF], I have something to say….

Of late some of you from TC and MAG have sent really rude, childish, and derisive messages to some members of [NERF]. I will not call out those individuals. Not here(they have already been messaged).

These infantile, obscenity laced comments and berating outbursts are absolutely uncalled for, and undeserved.

Those of you, both in TC and MAG, who have done the above, are poor examples of your server, examples which people will judge the majority of your server. Same can be said for some FA players/guilds. (NOTICE I SAID “SOME”, and not “EVERYBODY”).

We are a guild of people who are genuinely friendly, and play to have fun. We are “Casual”, not “HARD EFFIN CORE”. We don’t play to be “leet”, or to “pwnz u lulz”. Sorry if our idea of “fun” doesn’t revolve around this concept. Our idea of WvW fun is getting on TS, occasionally griping, mostly laughing, jumping into random fights, and doing what we can to help our server, but mostly our players, score points.

We may not be an elite guild, but we are respected for our Good Nature and Cheerful Attitudes.

For those who have messaged us, individually (you know who you are), your requests for gvg, or anything else, will be ignored. Please do not contact any member of [NERF].

All in all, though, good fights all around.

My only problem with the Engineer is the massive amounts of diversity to play with.

Engineers are just too kitten fun!

Seriously though, no gripes. I’ve been able to hold my own in sPvP (Rifle/Turret/Tool Kit Build; I LOVE CCs. LOVE. THEM LOL). I am decent at open field in WvW(I tend to do stupid things, like charge into a group of ten KNOWING I’LL GET SMASHED).

As for Elixir X? Heck, it’s AWESOME. As my fellow [NERF] member, Chaba said, it’s great for breaking up the ‘Blob’(especially with Tornado). It’s an awesome elite skill

If you want smaller battles, just GvG, or sPvP. Behind the Windmill there are Duels (do these still happen?). Duels are a GREAT way to test out new builds, and you find that these people have the most fun. Some are kittens, for sure, but most are pretty chill, whichever server you are on.

Solo Roaming is fun, but you gotta keep those binoculars out. A small group can sneak up on you if you are not careful

As for the whiners….

If you ‘party’ an enemy player, or message them, with derisive, rude, and childish rantings, MAYBE YOU SHOULD STOP PLAYING THIS GAME. If you are CONSTANTLY ticked off because you are not ‘winning’, then STOP PLAYING THIS GAME. We all get frustrated from time to time. It happens. LET IT SLIDE. MOVE ON. If you still have problems, TAKE UP KNITTING. I hear it works wonders for stress.

Remember; no matter how good you are, there is ALWAYS SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO IS BETTER THAN YOU.

Fellow Engineers, don’t give up!

I love this class. It’s DIFFERENT. It’s not your standard Sword and Sorcery Profession that we see all across this game.

We ARE effective. Though we may have some mechanics issues with the class that could use some improvement, I’ve seen some Engineers really hold their own.

As for builds, get creative! Try everything! I have really good success with a Rifle/Accelerant Packed Turrets/Tool Kit/Supply Crate build in both sPvP and WvW. There are others out there who play this class and make us all look “OP”, hahaha. I’ve personally had several /whispers from folks saying some nasty things because I won the match, or praise, asking about the Engineer. I’m sure many of you have had the same experience.

We are a mixed bag, capable of such great utility. But again, there is some room for improvement

Yesterday morning ran with [RET] and co., defending Garrison in our BL against TC. Real proud of the FA that were there. It took TC three tries. The third could easily be summed up as this….

Saw some outstanding movement in SMC and EB BL by [EK], last night, [Hawk] as well.

Pure magic, if you ask me.

ps. just thought I’d put this out here for those that don’t remember. Once upon a time FA was a crappy server. Then when they announced the closure of free transfers, they got a huge influx of fairweathers and bandwagoners. To this day, that’s all they are. They wouldn’t know what loyalty was if it kicked them in the kitten. SoS and CD are the losers of Transfer Wars, and FA was a big fat grubby winner. So remember that, boys and girls, while you are fighting out there.

Well…I am a transfer to FA from TC. I transferred awhile back, because of two reasons:

1) There was an all Engineer Guild forming in FA called NERF, and I wanted to be a part of it, and
2) Was getting tired of RP.

Needless to say, in the first two weeks of transferring to FA, I learned so much about WvW, group tactics, movement, and gosh darnit, just the simplicity of HAVING FUN.

I remember, in my days on TC, when I first hopped into WvW, I got facerolled by an FA. Said FA player then did a /bow, and took off. I found, even when I was gettin’ whooped on (I’m average now. Better than before! LOL) by FA, that they were VERY GOOD at what they do. They are also not a bunch of tools, or have the “I pwnd u lulz” attitude. They are a bunch of weirdos, who like to have fun, and do strange voices on TS. It’s true. Some of them freak me out. But that’s a good thing

Needless to say, I couldn’t think of a finer group of freaks I’d rather play with

Great for small groups, definitely. In zergs, I don’t think they are nearly as effective, as you say.

This has been our dilemma, as Engineers, since day one. At all times, people who play Engineers try to find what fits best in WvW as far as builds are concerned.

A small group of Engineers, ranging from around 8-10, can be EXTREMELY DEADLY to a force that sports 20 to 25, even up to 40!(I know it sounds weird, but awhile back my 8 of my fellow Engineers of NERF took on about 36, and won, to our surprise!. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any video of it ). Use of timed Supply Crate Drops, staggered combo fields, and constantly using turrets as ‘pivot points’ or ‘waypoints’, so to speak, among other things )…

Like some, the Turrets drew me to this wonderful, sleeper class. I was immediately drawn to the Thumper Turret, but, like many, saw how little it was utilized.

Well, with the new patch, I have a build that has been alot of fun

This build provides for the “WHOA. WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING?!” type of player, who likes to keep control of the field for not only himself, but for his allies.

This is a build used primarily for WvW.

I have the Runes of Melandru because I noticed that Conditions are the worst. All gear is Power/Vitality/Toughness. Amulets, Rings, and Accessories are P/V/T, with a mix of Chrysocola Exquisite Jewels/Crests of the Soldier. Backpiece is Koss on Koss Ascended with Toughness Infusion, Ring is Lost Seal of Usoku with Agony Infusion(I know. Doesn’t affect anything outside of Fractals )

With the Thumper Turret dealing out Cripple, the Toolbelt Net, Net Shot(from Rifle), and the Net Turret, you get 15 stacks of Vulnerabilty right there. This build also involves using your turrets as Pivot Points for you and your squad. Drop Box of Nails and use Magnet when Possible, and you CONTROL the FIELD for you and your pals

Anyway, lemme know what you think. I find this to be fun, as I ran it pre-patch(used Utility Goggles instead of Thumper Turret, with Pistol/Pistol for Glue Shot.)

*Warrior comes across a lone Engineer, who’s tinkering with a mechanism, looks like a Thumper Turret, focused on the task at hand. The Engineer hums a ribald tune.

The Warrior snarls and roars, issues the challenge, and plants his greatsword into the ground with a loud, metallic thunk.

The Engineer looks up, smiles, and pulls out…

I will always start off with Toolbelt Net, then Net Shot, followed by Analyze, then Net Turret. 25 Stacks of Vulnerability, plus they can’t move. I’ll usually drop my Supply Crate if or after the opponent dodges. I’ll close in with Hip Shot, then swap to Tool Kit and start bashing away with Auto Attack, to keep the cripple up. Throw Wrench helps too. If they decided to get antsy and attack, a quick Prybar will keep ‘em in line. Running away? Jump Shot Ahead of them, quick about face, then OverCharge Shot them back to your Turrets. Basically I use my turrets as ’pivot Points’, in that I circle around them, and will attempt to keep them in range. If it gets too hot, Detonate your turrets for the Knockback associated with Accelerant Packed Turrets. Your Turrets from the Supply Crate will do the same thing. Use the low survivability of your turrets to your advantage if you don’t take Metal Plating.

I will also use Dual Pistols, to keep the conditions rolling. Both are fitted with Exotic Chrysocola Orbs. I use two Ruinmakers.

In WvW, I use Heal Turret and Net Turret, with Thumper Turret every once in awhile for the Shockwave Blast Finisher. Accelerant Packed Turrets as well.

Fixing Turrets…

Rifle Turret… make the Overcharge ability the Basic, then make the Overcharge a 3 Second Heavy Burst Mingun-style AoE Bullet Spray

Rocket Turret… Overcharge is the basic ability, and make the Overcharge a “Rocket Swarm”(there are three launch tubes. Why not make it an AoE? )

Net Turret… Overcharge should Net Multiple Opponents.

Thumper Turret…Basic should be the upcoming Cripple, as they say. Overcharged ability needs to fire off more often.

Heal Turret…Just make the Overcharge Condition Cleansing go off immediately. Lower CD as well.

Someone once mentioned that people need to be afraid when they walk up on Turrets. This will do wonders for “Area Denial”, or “Battlefield CC”.

Wish list, I know. But one can hope for the future!

Having the same issue here. I’ve been purchasing gems, like clockwork, every two weeks. Recently made a large purchase, and today, I am unable to purchase gems(I don’t have time to try and ‘play’ the BLT. I work alot, so I’d rather just purchase gems to trade for gold with GW2).

I have an Ascended Koss on Koss Backpiece, and a Lost Seal of Usoku(because, as we all know, P/V/T in WvW is king!). Jewelry consists of a mix of Knights and Chrysocola with Soldier’s Crests.

With my Net Turret, That’s 5 stacks of Vulnerabilty right there. Add Analyze and you got 15. Net(from Toolbelt), plus Net Shot from Rifle with Analyze then Net Turret…25 Stacks of Vulnerability. Add the Accelerant Packed Turrets trait, and play pinball with your enemies! It’s really funny

Also I use the Heal Turret almost exclusively now. I’ve been able to get the timing down to create a Water Finisher for AREA HEAL when it’s needed. I know that Med Kit is preferred by some, but I like ‘mining’ my area with turrets. Get too close, and the Knockback is nice, if only for a moment.

I use Magnet to keep people in range of my point defense build. I want them to stick around, instead of runnning away.

In WvW, when our keep/tower is being attacked, I will swap to from Tool Kit to Flamethrower.

Flame Jet through the Doors keeps the pressure on those manning Rams. Using Air Blast knocks ’em off.

Flame Blast plus Detonate? In the middle of a large group? The Sweet Spot, as someone mentioned above? Magic!

Napalm is a good Fire Field for Might Stacking, and if you are running Pistol/Shield, you can use Magnetic Inversion to give yourself four stacks of Might.

Also, Smoke Vent is effective when you wanna pull a finishing move on a downed player

I love it…

The moment 100nades gained popularity, the other classes started to cry and whine because they simply do not, or will not, understand the Engineer class, and what we have to deal with. Within several weeks, nerfed AGAIN.

I’ve played other classes, and unlike the Engineer, you don’t have to do “keyboard gymnastics”(what Chaba said earlier). Extremely impressive utilities.

The more I think about the interview, the more convinced I am that they have no idea what to do with the Engineer. It’s like they invented a class as a ‘filler’…

We’ll just wait and see. Like some, I’m trying to be optimistic, and keep in good spirits.

We who play this class are a bit pessimistic at the stuff surrounding the Engineer. It’s a shame that this class that everyone here loves is just getting the crap beat out of it by the ANet devs.

New job is keeping me busy, with only a couple hours in the late evening to play with the fine folks of NERF.

To the TC Warrior(sorry can’t recall guild name ) who 1v1’d me and lost…Close but awesome fight! A Wrench and a Prybar with ‘splodin’ Turrets will do that to ya!

At any rate, the little time I’ve had to play it’s been fun.

As for all Forum Warriors, Chest Thumpers, and Trollers on all Servers, including FA…

Remember that everyone is trying to win. Everyone is trying not to die, or wipe. Everyone gets frustrated at some point.

Here’s hoping at some point they’ll ‘fix’ Rocket Boots. We all want to use them, it’s just that stupid self CC/Knockback/AwManWTF effect that bothers us. I love Rocket Kick, and several of the Gadgets that are in Tool Belt Skills. Just wish they weren’t tied to our Utilities…

I have been having alot of success with Turrets in WvW. I traited for a Turret Build, using 20/00/30/00/20. Here’s what I went with

I find this mainly as a point defense build. For Gear stats and Weapon Sigils, I went with Crests of the Soldier, for Power, Vitality, and Toughness, as I do alot of WvW.

I like the Thumper Turret and Rocket Turret. Thumper for the Shockwave Blast Finisher when a fire field is dropped in the group. I usually swap out Rocket for Net to get that extra CC on the field. Sometimes, I will swap to Tool Kit so I can grab those goons with Magnet and pull them to me in the middle of some turrets. Couple of hits with Prybar and Auto Attack, Static Shot, then Detonate Turrets(I find that Shrapnel works more often than not. Weird, huh? XD), playing pinball.

Alternatively, you could easily use Throw Mine. Traited, I find the Knockback and Boon Strip helpful(Not as awesome as Null Field, but still useful )
