Hi, I’ve recently returned to this game after a long break and I’m looking for a few people that want to run dungeons in either a duo or trio situation on a regular basis, all I ask for is similar minded chill players that want to improve at the game and that you have an idea of how your class is supposed to function in a group setting. I consider myself a pretty decent player, Elemenalist is my strongest class although I can switch to warrior if an encounter is too annoying.

I play on the EU SERVER and I’m online pretty much all the time whisper me if you are interested or leave a response below

Evapor.6849

Pretty sure we don’t need OP’s opinion at all, dungeons breed a toxic environment and you have a lot of wannabes that no nothing about the game yet they are running a meta copy pasta, have no idea how their class works or any mechanics and just flame everyone in the dungeon because somehow people think running a meta build means that nothing is your fault and your better than the other players in your party.

I run meta builds on all of my classes and use a sinister build on my engi I join just about every group, Sometimes if im in the mood i’ll carry noobies in all welcome groups and if they ask me for advice i’ll help them out. But the groups that form like ‘Zerk full run 5kap+’ immediately screams to me that everyone in that group is completely clueless and is bad at the game, the same thing happens when you join pugs that gearcheck you and then want to bug mossman, oneshot lupi or something it’s like those groups should just explicitly state that they are looking for someone to carry them instead of going through loops to end up flaming each other when they find out they are all terrible.

There are just a lot of bad players in this game that are making it to level 80 and can’t seem to handle the fact they know nothing.

Don’t know if I agree with ac p1 being easy or any of the low level dungeons for that matter, if you want to learn those are actually alot harder than the higher level ones now because of the power and crit changes for downscaling. I’d recommend HotW or arah p2 those have alot more mechanics and in learning them you will become a better player.

I never played much upon release but after seeing some of Robert Hrouda’s posts make me really sad, this game had so much potential and still does but for some reason there is a higher power at work preventing any good decisions from being made. I don’t think i’ll ever buy another b2p game, it just feels like a f2p game with a little more fluff and from what I’ve seen the b2p model can not keep up consistant meaningful content updates, its kinda sad.

Even though I agree that knowing how to path mobs is very useful there are certain cases where you can simply outrun the mobs, when im on my ele and I do arah p1 the starting part with the five (or four oozes) I can use consumables for stealth, fgs and ride the lightning and I get so far ahead of the oozes that they don’t even try to chase me anymore even though they initially started pathing to me. However the area that they gave up chasing me is where they remain they will not go back to their spawn point.

Another thing to add to the consumables section is that you can path mobs using ashlegion spykits and other stealth consumables and then quickly moving away or blinking.

Premade /= winning

Not every premade is some strategically thought out team composition. Not every group of people partied are even on voice chat. It’s just people that know each other and queue up together. They might be more inclined to res each other than some group of strangers but premades get beaten everyday by pugs. Not every premade gets beaten by pugs but everyday their are parties of people getting beat by 5 solo queuers.

In fact I am willing to bet that the over half of the groups queuing up together are not on voice chat or even all that good at pvp. They’re just queuing with guildies and friends because it’s more fun to get your kitten kicked with friends than 4 strangers.

Believe me I know this, but even the worst 5 man premade can beat and outrotate a bunch of solo queue pugs, even if the pugs are better players individually they simply cannot communicate in an efficient manner.

This will discourage farmers and people that are out to queue against pugs. Even if you are in a 2 man premade you can easily carry games. I don’t care about queue times, if im going to spend 5 mins queuing for a game then its one that I actually want to play. I just change to my other account when I encounter a premade, it still amazes me that even though solo players are already at a disadvantage you are apparently punishing them if they leave or go afk. If you don’t want this to happen you fix the matchmaking system.

Those people that expect everything to be 100% perfect and will call out every mistake they see, If you’re pugging no matter what you agreed to be put with a random group of people. People that call out you for not using the BiS asc gear or sigils for a weapon, using zerk or assassin. People that think AP matters, people that ping buffs/debuffs on bosses or ping the traits or skills of their other party members. People that try and force whatever choices of gear onto other people when the person didn’t ask for that advice.

It’s like people want dungeons to be completely dead, every new player I see gets kicked for having low AP and the people doing the kicking/governing the rules for these parties can’t adhere to their own rules or are not suitable/do not possess what I would consider to be the appropriate skill or knowledge to determine leading a group.

I only pug because I’ll never take this game seriously enough and I have very little motivation to farm this content to warrant joining a dedicated guild. The people complaining in pugs probably have real life issues and I just block those people. However if I set up my own pug and I specifically say I want to melee mossman or no oneshot lupi I expect all players in my group to adhere to that, I guess that is elitism and nulls alot of these complaints

GW2 stil has the best PvP of any MMO out there, unless you just really enjoy winning fights because you grinded longer than your opponent for gear or got really lucky with RNG drops, lol!

Nah, WoW has the best PvP for that. GW2 is just a viable alternative.

GW2 PVP is actually skill based …WoW PVP is grind/which class is more OP based…not comparable at all…not to mention the horrible class balance that has plagued WoW since its release…as much as people like to complain GW2 is much more balanced than WoW ever was

WoW PvP has a much higher skill cap, I’m sorry. It’s simply true.

World of warcraft is so hard because you have like 20 abilites most wow players are like superhumans and very smart individuals because they can do these super complex rotations, not too mention the combat system has so much depth to it the tab targetting is truly what makes mmos great.

Did I mention that because wow players press more buttons they are more mechanically skilled than starcraft pros, because you know apm doesnt matter that much. It’s all about the rotatoes.

Is there any logic to spvp in this game?

in PvP

Posted by: Evapor.6849

Evapor.6849

Its pretty much like you said. Until your mmr goes up it will be a basic point to point zerg whoever has the best start usually wins or whoever has more premade players on their team.

In high mmr games it seems to be the players have a much better understanding on when to take objectives when to kill the pve mobs etc but there is still alot of randomness in GW2 pvp; things like sigil procs can determine whether you win or lose a fight, whether or not your autoattack will do 500 or 5000 damage.

Although the combat is really fluent the dodging needs to be reworked on most builds you can just spam your dodge whenever you have enough vigor or when you know the enemy doesn’t have any cc’s left, this makes it very rng since alot of the skills dont have highly visible animations and alot of abilities are instant cast which is completely reaction based and you cannot counter play them, certain builds rely on this rng like sword dagger thief have almost 100% evade uptime and gain might whenever they dodge.

I’m tired and this post is probably a mess but to try and answer your question PVP is very frustrating in it’s current state. You are punished for queuing as a solo player and more often than not you will run into teams with 2-5 people who are obviously communicating with portals, stealth etc. Most builds are infuriating to play against as they have very little counter play and some simply cannot be beaten 1v1 provided the player is good enough.

Just hope you get a few sigil procs and you’ll win most of your fights anyway.

When I posted this I just got done losing several games in a row to full premades, the first loss was after a winstreak where I was playing really well and felt like I deserved the wins. There are an awful lot of PvP complaining threads lately, which is weird because the devs are going to release a new game mode as soon as they’re allowed.

If we didn’t know about stronghold, and have played a relatively finished map, I’d be complaining too, because the pace in the past has been beyond atrocious.

Ok, they are going to release stronghold. They are putting it in the same queue as conquest and that one team deathmatch map that a very small percentage of the community votes for. This alone tells me that the developer does not listen to their community, people post here daily asking for separate queues. For a game that is claiming to be an esport, why wouldn’t you give players the option to choose what gamemode they want to play?

They are releasing another gamemode into an already broken game. Which will cause more issues that will not get fixed or will take painfully long to fix, In the midst of that we won’t have a clue what is going on because they won’t tell us anything or even acknowledge our feedback.

There is your answer to your own problem RIGHT THERE … Be selective with people you want to play with.

When gold pavilion was out I was lucky enough to be in a guild that would go out of their way to organise a map to themselves, we would spend upwards of an hour getting our people in the map because anet in there infinite wisdom decided that players shouldn’t get to choose who they play with. Anyways when everyone from the guild was in the map we’d get gold times reward all day, the event wouldn’t fail, because why should it? it was a year’s old content at that point everyone knew what to do, and everyone was pulling their weight. This also allowed for competition as the guild I was in was competing for a world record with several others, vid if your interested; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSYaMrpL4l0

Now I doubt we’ll ever be able to set up our own instances of maps like silverwastes, until that day open world will always be a joke. I mean they didn’t even put in a basic communication system for things like triple trouble, so its no wonder that vast majority of players didn’t get a kill until certain guilds went out of their way to help pugs kill it. I just don’t see how your okay with the playerbase being utter terrible, if it weren’t for good players most content would be a dead wasteland, and anet would have to repeatedly nerf it until the average player can do it.

With the current systems ingame players aren’t encouraged to contribute, they require little knowledge about the event to get the full reward and there is nothing that sets players apart in terms of skill or motivation, there is no debate and this is an issue that needs to be addressed before HoT, but given this developers past actions, if the ‘challenging content’ turns out to be to difficult for the average player, most won’t do it; they’ll either disband the team responsible for creating the content, nerf the content into a brainless zergfest or pretend it doesn’t exist. It may very well be the challenging content isn’t instanced and instead im forced to play with people I have blocked, people I don’t like, people that don’t contribute and im expected to complete this content. With the playerbase Anet has created I don’t think this will be possible.

@winterchillz I care because it’s the only mmo i’ve like and I continue to enjoy it to this day despite its flaws, it has a combat system with so much potential, the gearing system in both pvp and pve is made so that players can compete at the highest levels if they choose to do so, unlike other mmos where things like gear actually matters in pvp and is usually locked behind a treadmill. I believe anet seen the flaws that plague most mmos and decided to create a game years ahead of its competitors.

Anet stated that they didn’t know what was possible with the combat system when they first created it nor did they have any idea how it would be used. Now they are about to release an expansion that is suppose to be challenging, i’m speculating now the vast majority will qq when they realize the content is too hard for them, just like they have done in the past with things like liadri, gold pavilion, lupi. This could mean one of two things; anet nerfes the content to make it more accessible completely ignoring the issue at hand, the challenging content dies within a few months and you end up with the current mess that is dungeons and fractals.

I can’t be bothered to read through this whole forum again but I don’t remember saying anything about people running or refusing to run zerk builds.

Why don’t they need to do anything?

The players that don’t dodge on vinewrath will go down or die, im not sure why you are debating this. It’s been a while since i’ve been to silverwastes but I remember a few attacks that the middle lane boss did, Id have to double dodge this massive aoe field, I’d have to stand in a cone in front of him when he phased and if there wasn’t any projectile blocks or reflects up I’d have to change my weaponset to avoid the attack.

The players that inevitably die because they didn’t dodge or are completely avoiding mechanics of the fight aren’t contributing and are still being rewarded for their ‘effort’. Which is a problem as it meant you had to rely on at least a few players to pull their weight and it meant these events were a complete luck roll whether or not you’d get a map that will succeed.

Do you honestly think anet intended for you to never use the dodge button if you didn’t want to?

It’s unreasonable now to expect someone to know the fundamentals of the game? Those mechanics I have listed are the core of the combat system. If I don’t dodge, I will go down or die. If I don’t blast might how am I going to get 25 stacks for the extra damage? If I don’t look at the vinewrath boss phasing I will get instagibbed since I wasn’t standing in the safespot.

If I don’t do any of these things above I will just be leeching the event, not contributing anything, but still hoping the other players can make it succeed because I will get my reward anyway. The entire point of this thread was to give these kinds of players a reason to contribute and not be a complete burden to everyone around them.

@Satenia I said the most popular games on twitch generally have communities that are good at the game, the average league of legends or CS:GO player is aware what makes a good player, has a general idea of how the ingame mechanics are to be utilised and how to effectively do well. They may not be the top players but they have a general idea of why things are done the way they are, they are aware of how to improve themselves and have information available if they choose to do so.

Now if we compare that to guild wars 2, we have a community where a good chunk of the players hitting level 80 and 100s of hours playtime don’t use the dodge button, don’t look for attack tells and couldn’t tell you what a combo field is and have no idea how their class functions.

Like I said there should be systems ingame that teach players the fundamentals of the game, show them how to dodge, show them what a combo field is, show them how to effectively use mechanics like stealth and at least give them an idea of how to play their class.

@Satenia The other person stated the casual player’s were bringing in more players than the hardcore scene of a game. I disagree with this because most gam’s I have played entire lifecycle revolve or did revolve around the hardcore audience, see many of the most popular games on the market at the moment, they are designed to keep people playing over and over to become better players and provide systems ingame for doing so.

On the second point like I said I’m not aware of any game that’s gotten popular or maintained its popularity in the last few years without relying on social media.

Hypothetically if the small ‘hardcore’ audience this game has suddenly dissapeared overnight, I would wake up in the morning log on to do my daily dungeons/fractals I would likely have to post my own LFG because no one else is doing dungeons, the paths I did do would take several hours due to lack of player ability, I would then go to silverwastes and farm for half an hour and then log off due to frustration of events failing or due to boredom. If I was to speculate this playerbase would be unprepared for the ‘Challenging content’ that awaits them in HoT because anet has simply hasn’t given them the proper ingame tools to better themselvers, like I said everyone has to do the very minimum to contribute for the maximum reward. What happens when the playerbase simply can’t do the content that is available in the game? do they go back to the content that was previously the most rewarding? no, hardcore players are the ones that stayed and went back to dungeons for another year. Casual players will likely quit the game if they feel the expansion did not meet their expectations.

We can debate what is more valuable all day, casual or hardcore players but when there is clear evidence out there, the top 5 games on twitch tv have a playerbase that is good at the game and host competitive events that cater to millions worldwide and challenge the players to better themselves. Anet is trying to make there way into the esport scene and plans on adding ‘challenging content’ when it is clear that the vast majority of the playerbase is not ready for this as they are not very good at the game.

I’d say casual players are more likely to watch someone else play the game, because usually the person they’re watching is doing things ingame that isn’t so accessible to everyone, whether it be through top end pve/pvp play or just some guy that is insanely rich throwing things into the mystic forge, I can’t do that on a regular basis so why not just watch someone else do it?

I don’t agree with a few things you said, I believe hardcore players are the ones selling the copies, they are the ones that are constantly playing running around completing events, filling the world, helping noobs where necessary, They are the ones keeping the game alive. Many of the hardcore players that stream sell alot of copies for example last night in Phantaram’s stream (Pro pvp player) I seen at least 5-20 people asking where they could buy this game asking all sorts of questions because they were interested in the game, now lets compare that to the ‘casual’ players, casual players come and go they generally don’t play for very long.

I doubt the dungeons/fractals board would still be active 2 years after the games release with only casual players populating the game, guilds have made speedrunning very popular and is one of the main attractions people see when they watch gameplay of gw2. I’m not sure how you think a casual player is more valuable, considering last month we had an event hosted by the hardcore guild [DnT] which brought in 1000+ viewers and I bet that sold lots of copies on it’s own. Casual player’s are usually one time buyers that float from many different games and are brought in by hardcore players through social media or word of mouth.

Secondly i’m not a developer if you couldn’t already tell, my threshold system is simply an idea or a solution to what we currently have. There are two stages in a dungeon currently: Complete and Incomplete there is no inbetween and because of such we look for ways to complete the dungeon fast as possible, if there was a system add mini challenges or goals for the group to aim for i.e. kill lupi in under 5min, block every mossman attack. These challenges would test the player individually and give them a bonus reward for it, as opposed to the current system we have were someone can die every fight, contribute nothing and get the same reward as the players that carried them through the dungeon, this was just an idea to help the playerbase improve at the game as a whole. I’m sure you’ve heard tales of the players 1000+ hours in that still don’t know what a combo field is, I don’t have a problem with casual players I just think this game’s community is hilariously bad at the game because anet refuses to help the players get better.

I have nothing against bad/casual players.

Yeah I feel the ingame cash shop conflicts with a lot of game play decisions, which is understandable but right now the rewards are so deceiving. I imagine alot of players would get upset if they could see a total loot screen after opening 100 champ bags, whereas in that time they spent opening the bags they could have made more gold using other methods.

It sucks because I like the buy 2 play concept but I get the feeling this game would have been alot better with a sub fee.

So today I seen something truly remarkable, I checked the arah lfg and there was a 3 man group that said “P2 @ lupi pay 15s”, now you probably think your eyes are kittening you, this did not mean they needed help at lupi, no. This means they wanted you to pay 15silver to join the path which wasnt even near complete, and then carry them through lupi.

Guild wars 2 is a very strange game, it has a playerbase that dumbfounds me and amazes me at the same time, it is the only the only game i’ve ever played where the vast majority of players are straight up terrible at the game. I think a major cause of this is the fact that there is no incentive to get better as a player, I think they need to add a better reward system to the pve side of the game or at least remove the timegates on certain dungeon paths, obviously the easier paths should stay the way they are.

I think encouraging players to contribute in groups would cause less toxicity and improve their overall gameplay, open world is a mess at the moment because its complete RNG wether youll get a group that wants to complete the event or have it completed for them, and the fact that the ‘real reward’ is only given upon completion of the event just breeds hate as spending 30+ minutes on an event that may fail and give no reward is a poor design decision and gives the player the illusion that the events failure was no one’s fault.

Reward thresholds would be great for individual classes, imagine upon completion of a dungeon path it showed a scoreboard that kept track of damage dealt, damage taken, damage evaded/blocked, aegis uptime/ total % of projectiles reflected and time spent on each boss. If they made it so these thresholds had to be met before you would get a certain piece of the reward and made the rewards DESIRABLE, I feel that would be enough on its own.

TLDR: The playerbase is terrible at the game, add meaningful reward systems that will make players want to get better at the game and perhaps add thresholds that need to be met before you can obtain the reward.

Please dont put me ingame with people I have on my ignore list, If I wanted to play with them or hear what they have to say, I wouldn’t have blocked them.

I know a feature like this would take years to implement because it is such a massive change and would rework the game completely, but I’d be very grateful.

P.S This should apply to the lfg tool too, I don’t want to join a group or have my group appear on someone’s lfg if I have them blocked. Forcing me to play with these people just creates a toxic environment on both sides.
