I generally do. I’m just wondering what’s up with the inconsistency. I have no intention of exploiting it, I’m just curious what gives and why some people are still able to do this.
I’m just curious because there are multiple dungeons and multiple bosses (most recently, today with the Howling King) where a group will basically pull a boss to somewhere where the boss can’t hit them, and they will just range said boss from that location.
Multiple times it’s happened to me where the person who suggests we do this said “they just did it yesterday” and always said “omg, they changed it TODAY! That sucks!”
I have been hearing the same thing for months every time I tell people that if the boss can’t hit you or reach you, it will go invulnerable. Every time they insist that they “just did this yesterday”. I’m wondering because this very same thing with totally different people was tried with the Howling King with a group I was in about two months ago, and the exact same thing happened where it went invulnerable, as I said it would.
But obviously this person somehow was met with success and managed to do it yesterday, yet today when I pointed out it wouldn’t work and it would go invulnerable, it went invulnerable.
Har har, I know somebody will say “well don’t say anything about it and it won’t happen!”
But really, why is it that some groups have the NPCs go invulnerable while doing this and some do not? I don’t get it.
I don’t want to exploit and am aware this strategy is exploiting, and tend to not want to be a part of groups that exploit, but I’m just wondering why some people apparently get away with it and some do not.
Screenshot says it all – there is a shading problem around the chest on human females. Moved to several locations in Harathi, this problem persisted. Myself and the other player both saw it, so it’s not on our side.

This didn’t help, unfortunately, and neither did re-downloading. the game. I get the same error in the same way.
I also notice I forgot to mention – prior to the more recent increased frequency, this also used to cause a bluescreen/immediate reboot. Never caught the error code because it’s always gone so quickly.
That’s not something I’ve tried yet, actually. 12% left on my GW2 download – if it still has issues, gonna try moving my page file to my secondary drive and see how that works. I can’t think of any reason I’d want it on my nigh-full primary drive anyway.
Also maybe relevant, I run GW2 from my secondary drive – the one that had 30gigs, and now has closer to 60 (what with re-downloading the game). My primary drive only has about 2 gigs of space – currently working to free up more. But this has never caused issue before – it’s had only a tiny amount of space for a long time. Probably at least 4 months.

Having a lot of issues getting into gw2…I have bits and pieces of problems others have had in the past, but nothing seems to work, so I’m re-downloading the game, basically. All I want to do is play the freaking game, why does it have to be so much trouble?
Once in awhile I will get that blue and yellow graphical glitch on something. Just more info for diagnosis. If and when this happens, it’s always immediately apparent at character select. However…The biggest problem I have with GW2 is also on login – it either crashes or bluescreens my computer right after clicking play and the client tries to load for 5-10 seconds. For the past few days, 90% of the time it just crashes. If I try to patch after that point, the patcher stops at Downloading 0KB and will not budge from it. Not even to log in. I have to reboot my computer to get it past “Downloading 0KB”.
One post I found said that they started having all these problems after downloading a number of games on Steam (which I have done off and on due to a friend getting me a few gifts) , until their HD shrank down to 30 gigs. Same here, and the problem got worse around that same time frame. Since downloading Chivalry last week, which put me down to 29.5gigs, I’ve been crashing 4/5 times. However, after deleting Tera and Aion, then having around 80 gigs of space, I’m still having the same issue.
I tried updating my video card (nVidia’s 9800 GTX) driver, but for some reason it just continuously failed. So I tried a slightly older version. Failed. So I tried the oldest video card driver installer I could find in my folders – still failed. So I went and dug up the freaking basic driver CD installer that came with it. That worked. Tried updating drivers again – failed. again. So I had to run the CD, again.
I also tried restoring my computer to last week, prior to downloading Chivalry, prior to updating any drivers. That, too, failed. “Your system cannot be restored to this date and changes were reverted”, or something to that effect. Yes, I picked one of the ones it told me to pick.
Since running the CD for my oldest driver, my screen also flashes black initially after my desktop appears when booting my computer.
As an additional note – for the past few weeks whenever I want to get on GW2, it seems like it ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE THE FIRST THING I DO PERIOD OR IT WILL CRASH. However, if it’s the first thing, I can use my computer just fine as normal. But if I say, load up Google Chrome and surf for a minute at all…GW2 was guaranteed to crash. However, if I loaded GW2 first before absolutely anything else, it would ‘usually’ load (not always), and with the game still open, I could browse/do whatever with absolutely no issue at all.
I just want to play the game; anyone have any insight?
The greatsword is more about adaptability than dps. My ranger uses (I use three weapon sets), longbow, sword/axe, and greatsword…And of the three, greatsword does the least DPS, except maybe against a crowd of 3-4 mobs. However, they each have their tradeoffs.
Sword/axe keeps me glued to my target. Very, very hard for them to escape. By that same token, it’s hard for me to break away due to the kick pretty much overriding other commands. For melee DPS, it does more than GS, but has extra dodges and jumparounds, and with #5 it even has the ability for a huge vulnerability debuff while deflecting all projectiles.
Longbow does the most DPS, and has range, as well as other goodies…we’re all familiar with it, I’m sure. Don’t have to explain, it’s kind of iconic to the class.
Greatsword? Adaptability. Decent damage, but its #1 skill (the one that REPEATS RAPIDLY), has an evade etched RIGHT IN with its third strike. That’s honestly pretty uber. Has a decent bleed skill, a leap, a counter (or snare, if you throw it before blocking) that knocks down, and a daze. With all of these combined you have some really powerful adabability in the weapon.
Anyway, your question seems to be if greatsword as a main weapon is viable and it’s plain and simple to say that yes, it’s very, very viable. Only that it’s not the highest dps melee weapon, but it’s cool that you’re meeting such success.

My understanding is that while guesting to “full” servers, guests will still be put on overflow, but I have a question.
On my own server, which is full pretty much all hours of the day, there is only one zone that ever has an overflow: Lion’s Arch. I will be transferring to a server of similar population and guesting to my old server, however, what’s the deal with overflow?
My old server is “full”, am I going to be put in overflow zones, or what’s the deal with that? Seems nonsensical due to there only ever actually being one zone that overflows. So what gives? Cause if I’m always going to be in overflow when guesting to my old server, I will probably not want to transfer at all.
I don’t understand if it’s just me or this is deliberate, it seems like 70% of my attacks during this event are being evaded or missing. What gives? Is it just me?

The Dungeons are Not Difficult - They are Mechanically Flawed - Here's Why...

GW2 does not cater to the mere tank/healer/DPS triat (or quinti-ad? five man groups).
I will concede that dungeons are really unforgivingly hard, but to b-r-u-s-h (I don’t know why that word is filtered) it off as NEEDING specific classes, as NEEDING a tank, healer, and DPSers…That’s simply not the case. I do think that the difficulty could stand to be toned down, but I don’t think it’s outrageous as it stands, either. However, it’s not right to simply have these difficulties and then go on about things that are simply not true.
Bosses are not outright immune to effects unless it’s in their description. Snares retain more power than other effects, but others, they do have shortened durations, and yes bosses are very, very hard to control. That’s the point. They do not throw them off randomly, they have shortened durations. And when they’re gone – there is a tell. They disappear from the debuff window right below the NPC’s name.
But you’re overstating it. Yes, its difficulty is extreme, particularly compared to other MMOs, but it’s not because of crowd control, and most DEFINITELY not because of the need for a tank and healer. No class can just sit and tank any boss mob indefinitely. They will die 90% of the time with that strategy. You are not meant to tank champions. You can tank trash and you can tank veterans A-OK if you’re defensive enough for it, but that’s not the idea for champions and up.
Also, there are tells. Every boss has tells. They have charge up-effects, or leading-up effects. To say that there are no tells, tells me that you are not seeing the tells. This is a player fault, not an inherent flaw in the game. There are always tells. Don’t get me wrong – I get hit a lot, I die a lot. It happens. But it’s just about always a fault of my own for not reacting quickly enough, or not yet knowing the boss’ pattern. There is quite an assortment of tells – be it a “charge” particle (introduced very early), a red circle on the ground, a consistent animation used for a certain attack (many fights like this, particularly starting at 35+), or just a pattern that is followed.
As an example, in Ascalonian Catacombs (explore mode, if I recall correctly) has a boss that pulls you to him, roots you, and then proceeds to slash you a million times and almost invariably kills you.
Because he roots you? You cannot dodge the slashes. So what do you have to do?
You have to look for his “pull” animation, and dodge immediately when you see it. You dodge his pull, you don’t get KOd.
As to your spec being nullified – this is why you have to be flexible. Do you think that other players approach every boss with the exact same weapon set, and the exact same utility set, and NEVER CHANGE THEM EVER? Of course not.
As a thief, running around in the world, I usually run solo with poison, dumbfire thief trap, and a power buff. When with others? I switch poison to scorpion wire to pull the mobs off of them (usually grouped with squishy people). In dungeons? Scorpion wire, thief, power for trash. For boss fights? I change every utility skill to make the boss fight go as smoothly for myself and others that I possibly can. Do I get it wrong on bosses I don’t yet know somtimes? yes.
But do I stick with a set I KNOW doesn’t work against a boss? Absolutely not. That’s not how you defeat a boss. You defeat a boss by seeing what it does, adapting to it, and overcoming it.
The first dungeon I ever did was Ascalonian Catacombs story mode, and I completed it with only one wipe, with a group of 3 thieves and 2 mesmers. You absolutely do not need the holy trinity.
Again, to reiterate, I don’t think it’d be a terrible thing to scale back the difficulty, a bit, but let’s do it in the right ways for the right reasons, not the wrong way for the wrong reasons and misinformation.
Also, for the record, I do think that they need to scaleback stability on bosses (at least sub-bosses, maybe not final bosses) in dungeons.
