While I like the initiative you actively take and how you roll with this ‘role’, I fear that you are taking advantage of situations where players, even if they want to, cannot actually DO anything to stop you, because the players…literally can’t really do anything once you’ve already done something. If they were able to, I’m sure in PVP they would just kill you. Then it would be totally acceptable.

I’m afraid that with things as they are though, this is kind of rude and you’re negatively impacting enjoyment of the game in a way that players can’t legitimately combat.

Can We Have Non-Stealth Condition Removal?

in Thief

Ezekiel.1985

I see where you’re coming from, but wanted to throw out there that with some builds (mine being one of them, and no I’m not posting it, sorry), the idea can become, basically, to out-heal the incoming damage via doing damage. Unfortunately, however, there’s squat I can do about confusion, making it the single most infuriating condition.

I also wanted to point out that our stealth heal cures a few things inherently – IE, you don’t have to be IN stealth for it to work, it does it right away. Not sure if this undermines your point or not.

Basically we lose almost all our utilities underwater, but our weapon skills are pretty uber. I do feel that since they nerfed some of them though, they should unlock a few things.

But yeah. Point stands – without them, we’re still very powerful underwater.

Once you get past the first/second/ maybe third, when you were born isn’t particularly noteworthy.

Like debuffs/conditions, chat suppression stacks duration. If you speak again, especially if you were saying something that is the same or similar to what caused you to be suppressed, it adds more time onto your suppression.

Edited to note I, too, think that the way it’s done is incredibly stupid.

Nolan North—the quintessential voice of Deadpool—plays the Human male, and I didn’t know that until I decided to look up the voice credits one day. He also plays the voice of Nathan Drake in Uncharted, David in The Last of Us, and a whole bunch of other really awesome voices that should have made it easy for me to identify him.

Desmond in the first Assassin’s Creed was the first place I heard him, but yeah. He’s one of the ones that seems to usually do well despite the director. Troy Baker (Logan Thackeray) does well, too, imo, whether you like the character or not the acting is still pretty solid.

The voice acting in this game is good in some place, but sadly for a lot of the actors…their voice director appeared to be sub-par, because while they’ve shown great talent in other games, in this one, sometimes they’re a bit lackluster. Sadly, human female, I feel, is one of the worst examples.

Which is sad, because she does great in other work. She does a number of voices on South Park, SWTOR, Empress in Dishonored, the antagonist in inFAMOUS 2: Festival of Blood, voices the female Dragonborn in Skyrim (while there’s not a lot there, she did well on it)… she has some good credits. This, sadly, was just not one of them (imo) and wasn’t really her fault either (again, imo). cause she’s not the only one that this shows for.

I have to disagree with them always being aimed at human players. The “steampunk” ones, while I think they look better on humans, are technically aimed at charr, as that’s their thing within the GW universe.

There have also been norn sets and asura-ish sets.

Anyway, with that said, yeah, could use some more sylvari-themed sets.

Healing Venoms...?

in Thief

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

Leeching venoms provides a very decent heal, yeah.

Don’t waste your time on skelk venom (the healing skill #6 venom) though.

1. It’s underwhelming compared to leeching venoms, especially with its cooldown.
2. It forces you to give up whatever other heal (be it stealth heal or signet of malice)
3. With these things in mind, YOUR VENOM CAN MISS AND YOU DON’T GET IT BACK.

Point 3 absolutely makes it ridiculous and useless for me. I would be MAYBE, MAYBE willing to give up malice for it if venoms didn’t ****ing get used on miss/block/evade/whatever. But they can and do.

Is a backstab build viable in dungeons?

in Thief

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

Despite what the above, dagger/dagger with a backstab focus is your highest source of damage, especially for the fights that actually might provide challenge, bosses. You’ll want to heartseeker more though as they get low on health. Only a few “boss fights” (see: COF path 2 assassins) would you want to ditch the dagger.

However, seriously, keep a sword or shortbow handy for AE fights. Sword actually -does not- outdamage shortbow for AE fights if you know how to work cluster bomb, but they are both good for AE damage regardless. So it pretty much comes down to preference.

I’m fairly certain force stacks with itself with two items. At least it appears to when I look at my character window and when swapping from no force sigil items to two force sigil items, I gain the value of the two combined.

As for whether or not they stack on 2handers – I don’t know. Don’t be surprised if they don’t, though. I really have a feeling they won’t.

SB definitely needs a nerf.

in Thief

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

Of all the things people complain about with regard to thieves, and all the things thieves hate, themselves, shortbow is definitely the one thing that is the most overpowered (devs even called it overpowered) things we can possibly have.

I fought a thief with a shortbow once and he onerounded me with the shortbow stealth attack. While we’re at it let’s make it so you can’t cluster the cluster bomb, nerf the evade duration on #3, and put a cooldown and cut the range in half on #5

….

But seriously, of all the things to change about thief, anything involving a shortbow nerf is just unbelievably asinine. Mind you, I play a thief and I think thieves are fine as they are, but I look at the ups and downs of the thief class, and some of the things that make people angry about it and I’m like

…shortbow? REALLY? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAALLY?

wow.

What classes to watch out for in WvW

in Thief

Ezekiel.1985

Guardians are hard for me to deal with if they’re defensively specced, but are easy to disengage. Depends on my mood what I do here. If I’m bored or in a don’t-really-care mood, I’ll engage them, figure out if they’re pretty defensively specced, and if so and I have trouble downing them, will generally disengage. If they’re DPS specced they tend to go down with relative ease.

Warrior unkillable build I will avoid if it’s obvious. Generally I can kinda tell if a warrior is running an unkillable build by just watching what they’re doing.

Engineers if I don’t have the drop on them, and they appear to be DPS specced, because they can pretty much shred anything by dropping bombs once they get jumped, so surprise and removing their ability to react is key here.

That’s about it. Other stuff I don’t really fear, including other thieves. Other thieves are generally easy because most thieves play as one trick ponies and that one trick is very easy to either counter and kill with, or simply disengage, especially as a thief.

A lot of the voice actors are actually very talented in other settings, so I chalked a lot of the less-than-stellar performances up to less-than-stellar voice directing. Some of them still managed to make it work though – notably, Troy Baker as Logan, I feel that was actually well done. Even if you think the character is annoying, the acting is pretty good.

Arenanet has said a lot of things in the past.
Nothing will change. They’ll probably do something stupid like increase mob hp because zerkers burn through it too fast. That or remove everyone’s easy access vigor and call it a day.

Whatever happens, the new meta will be whatever gives the highest dps.

Negative, not if you make encounters around heavy AoE and condi pressure where survival rather than DPS wins the encounter.

Or just do something more simple like making other stats scale to the point where they seem to make a more noticeable difference.

This’d probably have to be PVE specific though, because they’re fine in PVP.

You’re forgetting the people part of plant people.

As we can see in the game, they breathe much the same as humans do, by watching them. They have lungs, they expand/contract, etc. Not to mention, wearing clothes at all, were they to “breathe through their skin”, would be utterly crippling in the way of gaining the energy they need in order to actually move around and animate.

They breathe the same as humans do. Born without a nose? Mouth breathers, then.

WvW Zerg - Mace/Shield Possible?

Faithful strike (as well as the rest of the chain) is not one target. It hits multiple targets.

Guardian Duo

in Guardian

Ezekiel.1985

Something high damage would be ideal imo. This would mainly mean thief, warrior, and elementalist.

Necro isn’t high damage but would make a good duo in that you’d have decent AE capabilities as well as survivability. You’d be able to take on a lot of stuff at once. by that same token, elementalist’d be very powerful to, only that it’s pretty much the least survivable (in a very general sense) of all the classes.

I know someone will chime in with the ‘ohmuhgud not if u play rite’, yeah, I get that. I have an elementalist. I survive well, and they can kick butt. The same can be said of any class. That’s why I say in a very general sense, all things being relatively equal.

WvW Zerg - Mace/Shield Possible?

in Guardian

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

I mostly roam, but I’ll throw in my thoughts for what little they may be worth.

The mace is a very stationary weapon – zerg combat is anything but stationary. Faithful Strike is one-target and has a 1 sec activation by which time god knows where your target is, or your allies for that matter. Short range, small radius. Staff is a great support weapon, but none of your weapons or skills include a gap closer. Frankly I’d use Hammer, or if you like the Shield, maybe Sword/Shield.

I just don’t see “support” oozing out of this one so much as survival. As much as I would love to see a build like this be more useful, in zergs your support is more useful, I think, when delivered in the form of pre-emptive boons and condi cleanse, which you can distribute through shouts and virtues. IMO forgoing Valor entirely and going 30 into Virtues & replacing ToC with Ren. Focus (which you can spam twice as often as ToC) will enable you to support your brethren better. Nothing that you give up in Valor is going to decrease your support capability. Virtues will considerably enhance it.

But this is the opinion of one lowly rank-and-file Guardian. You appear to be a commander so your needs may vary quite a bit.

Faithful strike (as well as the rest of the chain) is not one target. It hits multiple targets.

With that said, mace/shield is viable to help your people (as well as yourself, if you have altruistic healing particularly) survive, and the projectile block can be very useful as well.

I wouldn’t call it ideal. Definitely better than sword/shield for “real” (mass) WvW without a doubt, imo, though.

Sylvari relationships with other races

in Sylvari

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

Sylvari have the external appearance of sexual organs without the function of them. They cannot have children because the internal workings do not work. Even if they could have children they are plants and Norn are mammals, plants do not reproduce in a way that mammalian reproduction could identify. The physiology is just too different. In our world for two different species to produce viable offspring then they need to be very closely related such as a horse and a donkey to create a mule.

Pretty much this. When it comes down to it, I’m pretty sure they can “do the do”, just that no children can come of it. on a related note, it might depend on the sylvari. For some reason a lot of RPers have taken to calling sylvari skin “bark”, which doesn’t make sense to me. Bark, in some cases, can be quite pliable, but most definitely cannot bend and shape in such a way that would be conducive AT ALL to moving limbs.

As such, I’ve always looked at sylvari skin as more fleshy – like somewhere between your average “flesh” of the other playable races, and maybe like vines.

Human Female Player Voice

in Audio

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

The thing is, the voice actress actually can be very good. In my opinion, though, she sounds far too much like Sharon Marsh in GW2. Yes, it’s the same voice actress that does Sharon Marsh (among others), but it’s hard to take that particular tone and inflection seriously in GW2.

She has done other voices where it’s quite easy to take her seriously, and she has a completely different tone and inflection than the one she does for South Park. As an example, she also voices the female Dragonborn, as well as other additional voices, all of which I take quite seriously, in Skyrim. She also sings (and surprisingly well) in Skyrim – one of the bard voices is her.

Many of the voice actors in GW2 are actually very talented ones. I think the director for them, however, left a bit to be desired, because it’s odd how it’s just not as good in some cases as in other work. We have some big names here, too. Nolan North, Troy Baker, Tara Strong, ETC. Granted, some of them do well, imo, despite the voice direction (Troy Baker and Tara Strong being good examples, imo, of doing well despite it all).

I seriously can't find the music folder

in Audio

Posted by: Ezekiel.1985

Ezekiel.1985

The music folder does not exist by default. You have to create it. For Windows seven it is in your documents folder/Guild Wars 2.
Here are some things to note:
Crafting doesn’t seem to work, presently.

City playlists depend on the city. Divinity’s Reach, for example, plays your City list almost everywhere. Lion’s Arch, being more outdoors-y, plays it almost nowhere, mostly playing Ambient (except for during holidays! it plays holiday music by default when appropriate). Hoelbrak plays it in high-traffic (ie, trading post, bank) areas, but Ambient in others. Etc etc.

“Special” characters in the file names for your MP3s can throw things off. Spaces seem okay, as do dashes, but others do not.

Custom playlists cannot play compressed music files, even if they are of the appropriate type. In Windows XP and Windows 7, files that are compressed are denoted by having blue text file names instead of the usual black text.

I was thinking maybe we could consolidate WVW levels too. Now, obviously people might want to have different specs on different characters, but my thought is that everybody has the same “number” in their pool for their characters, but can spend their stuff differently. IE, you get to level 15 on your elementalist or something, and spend their WVW points. Then you log to your guardian and have 15 unassigned points. Something like that.
