It could be just a new dungeon reward for tokens for playing the Ascalonian Catacombs ..
Great idea. Easy and neat. Maybe they can make an “adversary/boss” pet for every dungeon.
I think there would be less than a manhour effort for them to implement what you suggest.
Maybe problem is that the gw2 ranger is somehow out of the typical mmo ranger/hunter/archer archetype and the other classes not too much.
The dps classes I have seen so far were mostly close to this model:
A melee dps with high armor.
A melee glasscannon with stealth and spike close-to-oneshot/cond/cc ability.
A ranged glasscannon aoe/nuker.
A ranged glasscannon kiter and evader (pets, traps) – here go the ranger expectations and as far as I have seen, fails.
Duh i another example was when in wvw the other day the commander was making a profession check
- 1st he called all guardinas
- 2nd he called all warriors
- 3rd he called all elementalists
- 4th he called all necros
- 5th – mesmers – thieves
& after that he asked did i forget anyone – probably no….
For pug dung runs, the table looks very silimar. Everyone interested go check lfm messages on dungeon finder. It is almost exclusively:
3 zerker wars, 1 guard, 1 ele/mesmer.
It’s doable, but…
I believe it is doable even with the 5 lb builds BUT it would take ages and tons of effort. And concerning tank builds, I believe you can’t really tank in this game, since you have no aggro building skills. Correct me if Im wrong.
Again, can you please illustrate on some build links. This is not flaming, Im really interested and want to learn new things. Lets talk more specific.
Rangers are the best class in the game when using both condition and direct damage together. SNIP
Interesting claim. Can you please post some builds.
Actually, that end of the year report ANET did showed that rangers are the second most populous class in the game.
Yeah… because every newbie rolls a ranger first. And I have no problem to admit that I did, either.
Top tier in PvE dungeons
Are you kidding. Rangers are frequently kicked from dung pugs without a notice. Ppl even do not bother to ask about your stuff just kick you for being a ranger. Some lfm messages explicitly mention “no rangers”.
Like the op, I enjoy to play my ranger but im mostly on my war or guard… just because these are universaly effective AND accepted.
I even tried to do an experimental ranger only run in CoE. We hopelessly wiped (and gave up) on first subject Alpha in P3 we tried as first, and the trash at the beginning took ages to do. Note that I did a gear check and the ppl were wearing exotics with ascended, save for one fresh 80 who was partly in rares, and all knew the dungeon from runs on wars and guards.
But a war only run is not considered a problem…
Maybe a rare boss drop, or a part of some new achievement reward for frequenting Ascalonian catacombs.
Or some rune with possible graveling ally spawn, like the golemancer rune from CoE… I just love that crazy murdering bot appearing in the least desirable moments.
Crafting, as it is, is boring.
Turn the crafting process into a puzzle like logical minigame. Better results shall provide better than normal stuff, and viceversa. Also, let crafters sign/name their pieces.
Alright guys we all experienced heavy grinds and ofc worse than these. But this is not the point.
The point is that GW2 obviously aims to remove the grind.
We have rich veins guarded by vets and jumping puzzles. And I like it. You want the real treasure in the game, show some effort. It is somehow challenging and not that boring like farming mobs ad vomitum and hoping for the next medium ritualist bag drop.
So if we can have rich metal veins with veterans sitting on top of them at the end of a jumping puzzle, lets have some weaver veterans, elites or champs dropping something more interesting than the green stuff you salvage for mithril or elder logs, without even looking what it was…
1. refine until you get to 425.
2. discover exotics from anything you are not going to need later (cleric, valkyrie, knight, carrion) till you get to level 450. Whatever you create salvage with BLSK to get Dark matter orbs and ectos.
3. refine ectoplasms and obsidian as long as you are able to wait… this gives very little experience. OTOH you are going to need a lot of the obsidian / ecto stuff later, so if you are not lazy…
4. finally return to discovering (and salvaging) exotics.
Remember – you can get experience even from discovering lowbie stuff. When you are out of stuff and money, you can do the rest of the last level discovering even masterwork lvl 400 stuff, and the mats are very cheap and you will likely have a lots of these.
Hey Anet, mind regulating this obscene price gouging?
The only way how to regulate the prices is to balance demand and offer. It is too time consuming and boring to get the stuff, this is the real problem.
i farm About 100 linen scrap an Hour to sale to you people.. thanks for the free gold :P lol
You are welcome. But also note that a single AC explo run gives you 1.5g plus tokens you can use to buy exotic armor and weaponry.
What about some kind of a “frame” which would serve as a skin, with type, level, and armor class (or how it is called in gw2) and improvements in form of some “plugins” which would give it stats. So you can pick up any armor frame you want, and make it, say, berserker, by adding to its stat slots stat improvement pieces for power, precision and critical damage.
The problem with dungeons is so called rote learning. You just need to know the layout and the most effective way how to do it easy and fast. Problem is, it gets boring.
I’m not saying there is not enough content, there is a ton of things to do. But new stuff is never bad.
So what about to add a new type of dungeon, which will be randomly generated on start, including bosses and their abilities. The set of all possible abilities would be fixed though, so once you will see a known animation and ground mark you will know that something is about to happen and you countered it before doing something (like rolling away or so).
An easier variant might be a random set of known bosses with fixed abilities and strategies.
Crafting materials are very expensive and people spend a lot of time farming it, which is boring and even frustrating.
Can we win crafting mats in some interesting (and challenging) ways?
I mean, nodes are OK and mob drops are OK, as long as you are levelling and exploring. But once you hit 80 things will get different. It’s good that people have reason to revisit low level areas but running around from node to node, or even farming mobs, is not really fun.
I’m thinking about some new level 80 content, like (solo) dungeon mining areas guarded with powerfull mobs, or quest lines ending with some craft related rewards.
Any ideas?
Make exotic armor from temples salvageable, people do mistakes, and the dungeon armor can be savaged after all…
Yes, this is a dirty trick and they really should do something about it – like marking the piece as unsalvageable.
Well if it feels so much difficult, maybe you should consider returning to WoW… and what precisely is too difficult? I mean difficult, not expensive.
Do not. Level via gathering mats and farming and salvaging stuff. You will end filthy rich.
I use almost exclusively BLSK to get DM, and I don’t remeber not to get at least one DM per exotic salvaged. BUT I don’t do it per batches. I salvaged mostly pieces I did myself when training gm crafts, and drops. I believe ANet has some kind of unpleasant mechanism which nerfs droprate if you do things too often.
Oh, and one more think: always keep a full set of gathering tools and salvage kits with backups on your char and do not be lazy to harvest everything you will see. Salvage anything you find and do not need or want instead of selling it.
Well.
The first and very wrong idea behind crafting is “I will make my own stuff” (thats why I always start crafting in any mmo and I always discover I was yet again wrong).
The only good reason you need to craft is
1. you like crafting
2. you want ascended stuff
You can get everything but ascended stuff much easier than to craft it.
Armor and weapons – grind dungeons, namely CoE, which gives exotic berserker armor and weapons AND 1 gold per run.
Trinkets – do achievements for laurels and buy ascended trinkets from laurel vendors. These will do the largest difference anyway. Just compare stats of exotic vs. ascended armor and exotic vs. ascended trinket! Do not waste your laurels on ANYTHING except trinkets until you have full trinket set on ALL your lvl 80 alts.
That said, I have grandmaster in weaponsmith, armorsmith and hunstman, leatherworker at some 460 atm, and at least 400 in everything else. And yes I wasted a lot of resources and the valuable laurels on crafting because I like it for some reason. If you, too, like crafting, and that ele is your first alt and you are considering what will be your first craft selected, then think about your alts. Ele is not bad at all but I guess you might end up with at least one war and guard (useful both in dungeons and WvW), which means you will need ascended stuff from armorsmith and weaponsmith (and ele needs the daggers).
Cooking is a very good choice but pretty expensive. However making stuff which would give you bonuses to experience, gold and magic find as you level might help. Jeweller is another universal crafting discipline, but it is somehow obsoleted by the ascended trinkets you can get for laurels.
So, unless you are craftin obsessed do not rush it. Just gather and keep every craftin mat you can get and wait. Do dailies and mothlies for laurels. Do dungeon stories as you level, nobody will kick you from story (at least I hope, people can act… strange sometimes). Once you hit level 80, get some at least yellow stuff and start doing dungeon explorables (you can train champs in Frostgorge if you lack the cash for rare equip, which is likely). Remember that completing you char story gives you rare (yellow) headpiece and a token which buys you a rare weapon from quartermater at Trinity fort.
About in time you will get some exotic pieces from dungeon, you will get enough money to start levelling crafting. If you want to do ascended which you likely want, save karma for obsidian. You can buy obsidian only at Balthasar temple (cathedral of Glorious victory) which is seldom open since the quest is pretty tiresome and can fail at the very end. But you can look at http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html and guest at a server where it is open and then I recommend to spend all your karma for obsidian.
Good luck, you will need it. Oh. NEVER sell linen if you want to do ascended armor.
You can be the finest Zommoros blessed cotton weaver around, but you can’t trick the market – or at least not for long. AND you need the cotton for damasc, too.
It’s no longer
“Luke I’m your father!”
“Cool, daddy, gimme creds!”
but
“Cool, daddy, gimme a bolt of linen.”
Seriously, ANet, I hate farming, you hate farming, you made farming hard for us. OK. But please, give us some challenging yet fun way how to get the materials we need.
Or made the loot level corresponding to the area level, not player level. So I can farm and salvage stuff in low level areas.
Or make lvl 80 mobs, bosses, mat bags, whatever, drop the most expensive mats per actual trade price.
And, FYI, linen is not made of Flame legion bodies, but from this plant (a HINT – can be for sure harvested by a sickle):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flax
I do not like whinning, but I just wiped 4 times at this even, the NPC party was always oneshotted by massive aoe after leaving rally waipoint. After checking gw2status I found that the temple is closed everywhere.
Looks like nobody is able to do it.
What are your experiences and opinions? How to get the NPC team past the aoe?
Hello all, namely devs,
we crafters just need the 400ish crafting mats. Getting to it is boring. Please try to think about some way how to improve it.
1. keep the nodes on the same locations. Still boring to harvest the stuff, but at least less annoying and time consuming. I want to do something else than “reexplore” Cursed Shore running through all the boring mobs who try to gnaw at my heels
2. mark the nodes somehow on map so they look differently than mithril and cypres saplings
3. consider making some tough high level mining area guarded by vets or even champs where we can harvest the top stuff (only)
Thanks!
