Logic, really.
Oh, really? I have been wasting my time on MMOs for ages and no MMO dev ever bothered himself with trying to make things logical. You can get invisible after shooting an arrow from a longbow. Logic.
Leather should be a semi-guaranteed drop from animal mobs.
Cloth is somehow more difficult, but there can be plant type nodes like hemp, cotton bush, mulberry tree, etc., and wool you can have after shaving a sheep with a harvesting sickle.
Seriously – I absolutely agree there should be some granted way how to get cloth and leather, similar to wood or ore, and the game details are not such a big deal. Linen and silk really does not grow from dead bodies of Flame legion.
personal experience, yes they kick and sell, im one person with my friend who was kicked
But don’t you have to get a party vote to kick anyone?
Q: why would you buy any path in AC? The only reason why to do AC is the money.
If you’re doing something you do not find fun in order to get some pixel cosmetic skin, you are foolish
I think obsessed. However I love his determination. And remeber the most important thing in a MMO game is looks. Seriously.
Everybody “stacked”… till the real firearms appeared on battlefields. “Stacking” is a proven melee tactics. Military commanders even tried to keep it some hundreds years after it was obvious how obsolete it was. The first loose formations appeared with militia during American war of independence. kitten , even fighter aircraft were still flying in tight formations during the first months of WW2!
ANet likes melee and therefore every player who wants to go ranged and cowardly shoot from safety is properly punished by game devs. It reminds me the early samurai movies where the cowardly gunslinger was always killed by a virtuous traditional swordsman.
What we see here is somehow wrong implementation of a great idea, which is to remove the trinity. In trinity games, players have different roles and thus they need different equipment.
ANet decided to remove the boring trinity, but for some reason they wanted to enforce the trinity equipment concept. Maybe because the players are used to that. This confuses many players who come from trinity games, but also it forces devs into some vain attempts to keep the various types of gear and combat styles “viable”.
But it never worked like that. We do not use swords for some reason in real life. Finding the most efficient way how to do things is just in human nature. Now it is zerker stuff, stacking and melee.
After ANet nerfs zerker stuff, people who will not leave the game will find some other best working gear and tactics and all will do it again, and these who will not accept it will be rejected by pugs again. This will happen because such is a human nature.
At level 470, once you have all the basic ascended mats you need, get black lion salvage kit, if possible, and craft the cheapest exotics you can and salvage them for globs of dark matter. You will need these later to craft ascended inscriptions or insignia, and the more you have the better.
No no no! We need less, not more AH guardians. How does AH “helps the group a lot”?
Well, look at the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Altruistic_Healing
“Applying area-of-effect boons will trigger healing for each ally affected (including yourself) and skills that apply boons repeatedly over time, such as symbols, will trigger healing with each pulse. "
If you take also Writ of Persistence and Pure of Voice, and spam hammer#1 and shouts (works best if the group is stacked which is pretty often) you generate a group wide healing effect, not speaking about conditions converted to boons, and protection from Symbol of protection, which, traited with Writ of Persistence, is practically permanent. From my experience it is not that bad, but please feel free to post a better build.
(edited by Fext.3614)
But why would you want to solo a champ?
I agree. Rangers should be good with bows.
I use 15/20/0/20/15. Less zerky with more sustainability.
I hope I will never meet you in a pug dungeon group, mate. One can’t never love these “tanky” build enough.
Look the idea behind the “tank” concept is that you are the party memeber who takes damage for other, glasscannon dpsers. To do that, you need aggro building skills and these are missing in this game.
So a so called tanky build means only one thing – you do less damage, take less aggro, do not die as often as others -> you do the group at other players expenses…
But do not take me wrong: a player with a defensive style in mind is welcome and can help the group a lot – if s/he plays a guard. A good guard, preferably build around altruistic healing, is a godsend and helps the group a lot. Therefore, even if it’s your right to play whatever you like, you might consider trying a guard.
That said: for PVE, I am running a full zerker set on my guard.
(edited by Fext.3614)
Team up with a good guard. If you are suffering from conditions, the guard you play with don’t know guard trade. If your guard is good, you will have all conditions turned into boons and this will happen very often, also you will have a protection on you almost all the time.
Also have “Shake it off” ready for tight spots, to fill up where your guard shouts are on CD or you are knocked/rooted/paralysed during transit.
(edited by Fext.3614)
No, unless you want to go high level fractals and need agony resistance. However, ascended trinkets are very worth it…
This is all nice, but you just can’t show your spotter or frost spirit, because they will kick you as soon as they see the ranger icon.
Also, you can indeed try to start your own group – but from my experience people were not joining, until I relogged to war.
People are idiots, get over it.
Haters gonna hate.
As long as you are kicked from most groups without notice, it is hard to get over it. I don’t mind being hated. But, compared to other classes, some parts of the game are out of limits for you, as long as you play a ranger.
Yeah you can keep trying and trying and hope for a group which would not reject a ranger. A lot of fun indeed. Or you can go and roll a war. And this means that rangers needs fixing.
The elitist just do what they usualy do, only in GW2 they use some absolutely stupid critetia since they don’t have their dps parsers…
Well the direction is obvious – low magic ranged dps with evades and pets. What else? The melee dps with high armor is already taken (war) and the low armor melee dps with stealth is also taken (thief).
And the short and cheap way out of the mess would be:
1. overpower rangers bow damage to such a level that every moron notices how overpowered it is at the first glance
2. do not let stowed pets autoappear in combat
Concerning bows – well, lets face it, wars in PVE are in most cases not much more than greatsword #2 spammers. Yeah you can switch to something else from time to time, but going gsw#2 as often as possible is the best and expected way how to go. As long as this works and they kill things fast, nobody cares about wars, their balance, their direction, whatever.
I can never forgive rangers for longbow #4. There is never a right time to use that skill.
Oh really? Like if the mob is standing back to a wall and you need to interrupt something? Or, say, guards or wars hammer #4 or eles #3 on lightning hammer happen to be on cd? Come on, almost everybody has a pushback attack. But looks like only rangers are to blame.
Without a dps parser, people will keep hating rangers, because there is no real way how to prove you are not so useless as they say. I wonder how much overpowered should ranger become to make pug accept this class again and how long would it take.
A ranger without a bow… maybe thief? Warrior? Or if you want pets, necro? Why would you need a ranger if you do not want to use bows?
Yeah, I only have 30 useless stacks of dragonite ores while I have 100 useless stacks of bloodstone dust!
Yeah, bloodstone dust is useless. Just throw it away once you have enough bs bricks (starting with zero if you don’t craft). Simple as that. Well and IIRC there are some new ascended back item recipes using bloodstone dust.
Getting dragonite is really not a problem. Just get used to watch major temples. Once you see a temple contested, go there and join the event chain, or start it if not running already.
most involve wanting ‘experienced’ players to join only
By “experienced” they really do mean “knows what to do”. Your opinions are (or, what did I do to start dungeons):
1. read/watch a guide for the particular dungeon you want to do so you know the tactics
2. form your own group claiming you are a new in the dungeon, you form a beginner party and want to learn, and asking for tutors
3. wait for a party which does not ask for experienced players and claim honestly at the beginning, that you are new and will need some instructions at difficult points
4. join a guild, guildies will help you and teach you where pug would reject you
Just be prepared to run into some morons and elitist jerks who will kick you from the party without a notice, but you will be surprised how many decent and helpfull people you will meet. Just be honest and don’t lie.
not even in tanky gear.
Tanky gear… how do you want to tank without aggro building skills?
Necros are hated. For dungeons, you are really limited to wars, guards and eles, mesmers are accepted in some dungeons where they can help the party with some specific tasks. But if you want to be always welcome everywhere, you want a full zerker war.
1. They do tests.
What kind of tests? I have a war, guard and a ranger at 80, mixed asc and exo zerger gear (yeah at the guard, too). What test shall I perform to see how exactly my ranger suck at, well, everything?
But she’s never failed a mission!
And that hurts. A lot.
There are a few bigger problems in dungeons about which ANet doesn’t care. So why should they do anything in this case?
Cuz I, like, asked nice?
Well I don’t know, I already met few warriors in dungeons, proudly claiming to be a “tanking build”… good luck at tanking without aggro building skills, guys…
The best defense is always a good offense, and a good offense means a raw straight damage. If you kill it fast, I will not have enough time to strike back.
And concerning trinity, I like this game because it lacks the bloody boring trinity. The MMO world is choking in trinity games everywhere. If ANet goes trinity with GW2, they will lose their advantage.
OTOH they would make the ex-WoW people less confused and more happy… just another WoW clone without the monthly fees. :/
I really don’t like her.
Starting with her AI and ending with her boot camp manners and her looks. Nothing good at this NPC, save for the line “The second ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.” after meeting s. Alpha, where the most ugliest thing she ever saw was probably herself in the morning when she was shaving herself (likely with a blowtorch since she is such a tough kitten).
Can you make her somehow acceptable or even useful? Well I know she is a NPC but yet…
So rangers suck. Anybody knows it and no respectable player would wear a ranger. And if you happen to log your ranger, there is hardly a group where you are not told by one or more morons that you suck just because you are a ranger.
I’m just wondering
1. where this really started and how can you really tell that a class or a player has a low damage without dps parser?
People say that a thief or a war with a bow does more damage than a ranger. How can anyone prove this claim?
2. if rangers are improved, and would perform as a welcome (ranged) dpsers, how long it takes before the antiranger prejudice dies?
I am running 30(1,7,12)/20(2,10)/0/20(6,9)/0, longbow and greatsword (which has way more utility than 1h sword and does not bind, which I prefer in PVE). I’m not very happy with pet AI and performance in general, so I do not use pet traits, but this build gives you a lot of freedom to retrait depending on situation, for example go 1 and 5 in skirmishing if you trust your pet or you expect a longer boss fight where your pet lives long enough.
Full zerker gear, weapons, and trinkets.
However remember that being a ranger will still make you not welcome in most groups…
Ascended armor has almost no stat advantage over exotics. The real advantage is that ascended stuff can be infused with agony resistance, which is needed for fractals. And if you do fractals, you will likely have more ascended drops later on.
Ascended trinkets are what makes the real stat difference. Check the stats on Wiki / Dulfy. Ascended trinkets can be bought from laurel vendors.
So you don’t really need to craft it yourself.
This could be called a “community brainstorm” if you will.
Then start with a definition, what a ranger shall be. PvE, WvW, PvP.
Rangers need to do more ranged damage since a vanilla ranger is supposed to be a non mage ranged dps class.
PVE wise, thieves, wars and rangers should be able to do about the same amount of damage, where thieves have stealth, wars armor, and rangers range.
Simple as that.
IDK about thieves but I play war alt and where wars do a sh*tload of damage with their greatswords and axe/mace, rangers are left far behind with bows. Therefore they are not viable RANGED dps class. And I’m not talking about fact, that many dungeon / fractal strategies demand stacking and therefore favor melee.
As long as a nobrainer vanilla bow ranger has not enough damage to compare to nobrainer greatsword wars, it is obsolete. Yeah you can somehow tweak it to make it a melee dps about as good as war is (not counting the armor) but I don’t think this is how it should work.

Can you swap the jumping directions on skill 2 at one handed sword, so the first use jumps at target, the second jumps away?
Lose your target, and you can make the 2nd leap to whatever direction you want. I don’t think there is a need to change it, maybe have the first leap remove 1 condition.
But I want to land precisely at target and deal damage (see guard, war related onehand sword skills). Then, if I want, I could jump away.
wtf no!?
it´s an escape tool that can used to follow the target be the main use is the escape
You can still use it to escape this way. You at close, doubletap it and you jump away. You at range, tap it once and you jump at target.
Like this game. So here goes:
Fext’s Wishlist for Ranger changes in 2014:
Pet
1st Wish = pet does not reappear when stowed
Weapons
1st Wish = sword skill 2 – swap directions, 1st use to target, 2nd from target
2nd Wish = sword skill 1 – make evades possible
3rd Wish = longbow skill 3 replace with something with high damage and perhaps short blind to target only, but please NO invisibility
4th Wish = longbow skill 2 maybe more raw damage
I’m for more raw damage and less stealth. For example replace the lb #3 with some devastating attack. Or something which blinds and damages.
Scouting: rather some abilities to run away / evade / pacify / confuse. Like support for running through mobs without being slowed or aggroed, not unseen. Maybe even party wise. This I think would make rangers welcome in dungeon groups…
Can you swap the jumping directions on skill 2 at one handed sword, so the first use jumps at target, the second jumps away?
Can human characters smile, more, like silvari do?
Add a dps parser which would show how much dps does a certain member of a group.
Reason:
Majority of players in the game are ex WoWers. They are used to the typical WoW arrogant elitism and looks for some ways how to select and form top performing groups; typicaly kicking everything which is not over some achievement level OR based on a list of hated classes (rangers, necros, etc., well sometimes anything which is not a war/guard/ele).
So my half ascedned geared ranger gets typically kicked from groups without notice, just for being a ranger, before anything happens.
I KNOW that the dps parser absence is there to prevent exactly this.
But as we all see, people are doing it anyway, just using some pseudocriteria. You are trying to fight rotten human nature here and it is impossible.
So make it just and add the parser into the game, so we are at least given a chance to show we are not a total junk.
NOTE: I have both war and guard 80 alts and properly equipped. I just want to play something else, too.
There’s really no alternative but to destroy it
Well I craft and I mostly destroy the bloodstone dust… since you get more of it than you ever need.
Then, allow us players that don’t craft that are just sitting on these t6 materials to place 3 different stacks of 500(or whatever number you feel fit) into the mystic forge + 1 Exotic item we wish to turn into an ascended item. And let the forge do it’s thing. Make this item account bound. And call it a day.
Way too easy compared to the farm needed to make an ascended piece – the effort and costs for getting the crafter to level 500 excluded.
I understand what did they want to do. You are wise not to craft for crafting is good for absolutely nothing except for ascended stuff.
However, consider the little improvement and extremely huge effort needed to create an ascended set (i presume you dont know the process since you dont craft) and you will see that the best you can do is to keep your trusty exotic set and buy ascended trinkets for laurels and badges.
One ascended ring gives you way more bonus difference than the whole ascended set. So the ascended armor is not that important, the trinkets are the real deal.
There is a table with total improvement ascended set gives you, compared to exotic set – for example 14/11/1% for zerker, which is really not very significant.
http://dulfy.net/2013/12/12/gw2-ascended-armor-stats/
In fact the important difference are the infusion slots needed by PVErs for fractals. So buy your trinkets, throw away the ascended mats and live happily ever after…
This next to impossible materials grind is obviously “working as intended” and Anet obviously doesn’t want our ideas.
But why would they want it like that?
The default response is usualy " so you go and buy gems" but no you do not really need to buy gems – you only need to go grind some dungeons for at least 1g per explorable run.
I know I have some kind of a “home” somewhere in my race city. I do not have any reason to visit there.
What about to make a wp in my home location with a zero cost to travel ?
And maybe add tp access, and crafting stations to the home locations, all comfortably close.
Make a new dungeons, where the rewards are crafting materials.
So, for example, the boss champion ooze is not dropping weapons and armor and other surprising stuff, but it guards a room with several rich veins or small groove of saplings.
Note: I know I can grind AC for gold and buy everything I want.
But I want to harvest the stuff myself. And this would be something new, and ppl will enjoy it.
We were sold on, “Anet doesn’t make grindy games…”.
Yes they do.
Well they try not to. And this thread aims to help them to improve.
Basically: if you need some crafting material en masse, you should know where to go and get it for yourself. And I do not mean tp which, at least concerning the tailoring stuff, is the only RELIABLE source of materials.
If you want metals, you go and dig rich veins. You bash few heads, jump a little and you are rewarded with a nice heap of ore. That is how I like it.
If you want wood, well you go for a stride. This is more grindy than I like, I would like to see it improved in the metal gathering style, but still this is something I can survive. However, if there can be patches of onions with a veteran ogre sitting in the middle, we can have a small snow cherry grove with the same ogre as well.
But if I want tailoring or leatherworking stuff? Thats where the problem is. And this needs improvement.
So people please instead of discussing who experienced the worst grind ever and where, and whether ANet is good or evil, come with some ideas and say how would you like it.
(edited by Fext.3614)
If u think that GW2 is a grindy game well…u haven’t even tried Lineage2 :P
I do not think GW2 is a grindy game; I never said GW2 was a grindy game; and you obviously do not bother reading – or are not able to understand – what is this thread all about. So please, read again.
You can get linen out of CM? According to the wiki, linen is a level 46 – 60 material, but CM is a level 35 dungeon.
AC is 35, CM is 40.
