That’s the problem. I played the free trial of GW1 and never continued after that. Is there no way for GW2 only player to get those points necessary?

As someone who never really played GW1 all that much, am I still able to get the Heritage Armor set, or at least the coat? If so, how is this accomplished as the wiki site isn’t much help.

Ok, this may be a stupid question but I run a 10/30/30 build variant of those listed in the OP with all Valkyrie armor (+ beryl orbs) and then zerker gear/accessories. My normal crit% is about 42% right now (still missing a few exotics on the accessories) with a 102% crit bonus. My questions is, what is the real benefit for me to change out my Valkyrie gear for Soldier’s? I also chose the beryl orbs simply because they don’t break my bank account.

I leave my auto-attack running while I go make something to eat and then pick up the loot bag when I return.

1. Race Change Kit – this has been a hot issue in the forums recently
2. Karma Transfer Stones – almost everyone has a main character that they like to accumulate Karma on, but doing events on alts is just as fun
3. Crafting Starter Kit – crafting is a big part of the game but getting into the deep end of it can be painstaking for players with little time to partake
4. World Boss Timer – This may cause controversy being a paid item, but with many free sources for this information, it is completely optional
5. Profession-Specific Armor Skins – We have racial armors, but profession specific skins could be an interesting addition

I would pay for all of these as they affect me in at least one character. What I would also REALLY like to see is…

1. More (or universal) Hairstyles - Why can’t my Human have a pony-tail like my Norn? Really, how hard would it be to make this available?

2. UI Configuration Saved to Character - I have a Thief that I play as a main and an Ele for an alt. My Ele’s attunement changes was set to my mouse button but sadly, I can’t save the specific UI settings to this character alone. Talk about a pain when I change characters…

Hello folks!

Like the title says, I’m currently looking for a highly active/organized WvW guild that supports RP or has a RP concept as a basis of WvW events (if that makes any sense…). I would like to find a group that is mature, professional, and understands the importance of working together as a team in order to have success. An active website/forums would also be really nice.

My Background:

I now have 3 80’s in GW2 (Thief, Mesmer, Ele) and am fairly active in the evenings (EST). I played SWTOR from beta and spent 4 years in WoW where I was the GM of a RP-based PvP guild for almost 3 years. With that, I spend about 90% of my time in WvW though I tend to avoid the massive, unorganized zergs.

I think high stealth/daze would pair best with S/D & D/P as offset. But MAN do I miss Shortbow every time I try to drop it.

I reluctantly use the Shortbow as logically, I know it’s the best for zergs or when I’m outnumbered. Still, the P/P offset is just amazing for single target damage in that most folks somehow forget to dodge the unload. I actually wacked a Warrior the other day with 2 unloads and dropped him. It was pretty sad but when the last hit of the chain does over 9.4K damage, it’s hard to ignore the potential. Generally speaking, if I’m out just trying to pick a fight, I often keep my pistols on ready instead of the bow.

I liked the video and give you credit for the build/style as it’s something I never really got the hang of. I tried quite a bit as I really like the idea/look of a sword/dagger thief but it just didn’t “feel” right to me.

Sadly, I’m one of those D/P or D/D thieves that only come out of stealth long enough to drop a backstab and then hide back into the shadows. I just depend so much on being able to get away if necessary that without all that stealth, I feel lost.

Thanks for the help folks! I think I’ll go work on this set of armor and play around with it a bit. Normal DPS is fun but I wanted to try something different for a bit.

I’ve been playing around quite a bit lately with my gear in order to test different ideas and was hoping you all might be able to give me some advice? Right now, I’m going with the 10/30/30/0/0 build with D/P + SB as my primary weapons. Sometimes I’ll change over to D/D + P/P just for the heck of it. As for gear, I use all Valkyrie armor with orbs and Zerker for everything else. If I was to use the same build and accessories, would the Power, Toughness, Vitality gear with +crit addons work well for a decent bunker/tank build? I often find myself in a situation where it’s 3 or more against me and it would nice to live long enough to get away.

Anyways, what do you all think/suggest?

I posted these in the other thread about what you thief looks like but I’ll drop them here as well. This armor uses the Krytan coat (from gem store), T1 pants, and the named level 80 exotic boots. Colors are a combo of midnight and iron.

This is Alyia Seranus, my Thief and main character. Her outfit, coloring and style is mainly based upon the RP concept and personality I created for her. Because of her “story,” she always sticks to a very simple style of armor. Unfortunately, you can’t see the subtle color changes in these shots.

COLORS: Midnight Ice, Iron, and sometimes, Icing.

condition dmg for thief is crap in pve since MOST of the skills are direct damage :P
and the condition ones are subpar (1/2 condition, 1/2 direct? wtf)
conditions can’t crit, suffer the 25 stack bleed limit, caltrops was nerfed to 10sec,
vulnerability is useless…

so even a balanced build is much better than a full condition one…

and from ALL of our skills (p/p, d/p, p/d, s/d, s/p, bow)
we have 2 skills good for condition AND ONLY 2
LPD and sneak attack.
p/d is out of the question for pve (no aoe, lol dps)
LeapingDeathBlossom is okish, but really high on the ini cost, and considering the ini regen, 1/4sec evade is laughable….
YOU get better damage by autoattack on sword with a balanced build with 0 ini spent

the balance team doesn’t know that “balance” means , really… they random nerf things with no clue

Well, at least the SB crits for almost 5K so that helps, I suppose.

I’m currently running a 10/30/30/0/0 build for WvW and have Valkyrie gear (orbs) and the rest is all zerker items. Is this build viable for fractals or other dungeons or should I change over to condition gear/build? Also, should I be using sword/dagger + shortbow?

I don’t know about ya’ll but I’ve been searching for some basic looking pants for my Mesmer similar to those medium T1 for humans. By chance, do any of ya know something that looks just like normal pants so even close to it? I’m trying to avoid the whole robe/dress look.

In larger groups or when i See that no Good enemies are arround i Play GS and sword/torch

Reason: Option 1 is simple my favour and matches Perfect to my Game play – Option b is for Fun dealing Extreme Range dmg without Warning (there is also a shatter combo on Range GS) and beeing in a Auto Hit Modus or if i Play near a Tower to nuke Player on the Walls

Also a guardian can easily survive a zerg for minutes….they don t need mistform….

My group of 5 fought against a Mesmer, an up-leveled Ranger, and a hammer-wielding Guardian (not sure the build) this morning and though the Mesmer and Ranger went down rather quickly, the Guardian felt like he was just laughing at us. We could get him down to about 25% but then he’d somehow heal back up and negate a massive amount of incoming damage.

I have a “perma-stealth” thief that I play and trust me, it doesn’t take much to kill me on my thief. If I make just 1 mistake, it’s pretty much over unless my target(s) is/are complete morons.

What build are you going with? Personally, I just almost all Valkyrie gear with Berserker coat, rings, accessories, etc. With exotics, my core stats are 43% crit, 91% crit bonus, 2400 armor and 16.4K health.

I played my old D/D Ele last night and got rolled by a zerker Guardian. I think I honestly cried for a moment….

I almost never used my #1 ability unless it’s to finish something off when I come out of stealth. You will pretty much be doing a Death Blossom dance back and forth while dropping caltrops and adding more caltrops when you dodge. It’s really the leveling on EZ mode.

That’s pretty much what I did as well. I always tried to use the “blue” quality gear that gave a bonus to conditions and then replaced it every 3 levels. That way, you can just sell it back and never really end up with an expense. At level 40, I started working the crafting skills hard and pretty much went to 70 off of crafting. Combined with some time with the WvW zergs, you can go from 40-80 rather quickly. Besides, conditions are great for tagging folks in WvW gaining you even more exp.

The D/D or D/P build you speak of is probably one of the best builds for roaming in WvW and simply for being able to control the fight. I currently use this build and found it to be very effective.

For leveling, I would strongly recommend you consider a full conditions build using D/D +SB or P/P (which ever you like more). Conditions for leveling just makes it so much easier as you can bleed multiple targets and then pop into stealth as they die at your feet. Below is an excellent guide on how this works as well as information on the build itself. I hope this helps some.

Oh, and the stealth stomp is basically when you use any of your stealth skills than then stop the target. In this way, they cannot interrupt you.

Actually stealth has very little counters. I’m a thief main since day 1 and most of the counters people speak about have counters too.

Like timing 1.2.3. roll…?? Seriously? Wow the thief only has to wait until you waste the roll then spam the back stab on you.

Did that to a warrior last night. 1 BS, HS, HS, spike… Granted, he was a glass cannon but it still felt good.

(I’ll not mention that he hit me once and dropped my health by almost half… )

Yeah, his video’s are amazing. I even considered leveling my Guardian up just to play this style/build but the problem is that it’s great if YOU get the jump on the target. Otherwise, I’d expect this type of Guardian would go down quickly.

Coloxeus, does your build work as well as a roaming build in WvW?

After agonizing for the last few days on which character I was going to keep as my main (80 Mesmer, 80 Ele or the Teef), I chose to stick with what I enjoy most for roaming. Still, I leveled this character playing as mostly D/D or D/P and so I have really no experience with these sword builds that I’ve heard are so outstanding. Do any of you all by chance have a link to a solid sword build for WvW and/or a guide on how they work? Even better, is there a thief video you all know of that shows it in action?

Oh, I’m not sure if this matters but my character has 2 zerker armor items, zerker rings, accessories, etc, and the rest is all valkyrie with you’re typical orbs.

This is an interesting thread for sure. I started out in GW2 as a GS/S+S Mesmer, changed over to a D/D Ele, and now run a D/P + P/P Thief. I too thought thieves were just impossible to defeat until I got mine to 80 and found out that really, we are rather predictable.

However, even though my Mesmer can burst folks down in seconds, my Thief can pretty much escape any situation where I don’t feel comfortable. That knowledge that as a Thief, I control the battle is a huge aspect to the class that I don’t think any other class can match. Even though my other two 80’s have some great gear and I know how to play them rather well, there are still those situations where I get stuck and there is simply no way out. As for the Thief, it’s rare that I die and when I do, it’s usually because my own ego get’s in the way of logic.

So I wantched your video again and then the itch came to build another alt…. I just got my Thief to 80 and though she’s pretty fun, it’s not as exciting as I thought.

Oh, and tried to do this in sPvP and sadly, it doesn’t work out so well with the limited stats.

I’ve seen this build a few times during the zergs in WvW and there is really only one thing in GW2 that can effectively counter it – a Mesmer…

I’m going to run away now…

Has anyone else tried this build yet? It looks really interesting but I just don’t have the gold to buy an entire new set of gear.

Am I missing something because mine has been doing an average crit of over 5K?

if ur having problems with p/d than its just a L2P issue…and sorry i reaaaaaaly hate it when people use that phrase. p/d is actually better for zergs and amazing at 1 v 1 or 1 v x also….however its bad against d/p condi removal builds and some eles with full condi removal. i could give u a few tips if u need.

Can you give me a link to a decent P/D build then? I’m running mostly Valk+Zerker gear right now and it works but I thought a nice condition build would be more fun.

I’m wondering, how well do you do against those GS/Sword+Sword Mesmer’s out there if they get the drop on you? I have a level 39 Guardian that I never really play (leveled 3 80’s already…) and have a GS Mesmer as my main. Typically, she can burst out a crap ton of damage to a single target but I’ve never fought a zerker Guardian 1v1 before. Sadly, all I ever see are those darn bunker builds and they just aren’t worth the time it takes to bring one down.

I logged back into my D/D Ele again this morning just to mess around with it a bit as honestly, it was my favorite class in the game until the RTL changes. After 30 minutes of playing, I logged back into my Mesmer and was just sad on how much I miss my old character.

Granted my Mesmer isn’t as fast around the field but with stealth + centaur runes, there’s not a ton of difference on being able to escape. What’s sad is that with roughly the same quality gear, my Mesmer has a 42% crit rate, 91% crit damage bonus, 2340 armor, and over 19K health. While not the best, she’s able to dish out simply insane damage on a target before they even have a real chance to do anything.

I love my Ele (and probably always will) but really, why would I play the Ele anymore when my Mesmer has more versatility and can get better results for my WvW group?

Like Cempa said, I would really like to see you play against some roamers as I have a Mesmer with a similar build but I’m not certain if I want to make her or my Teef my main. The Mesmer just has so much versatility that it’s hard NOT to play it.

I got hit with a 10K backstab while I was somewhat akitten. Does that count?

I run GS/Staff . Tried all kinds of other sets in the end I just can’t get away from GS staff. I run a balanced build

Traits are pretty much no brainier. 20 mind wreck, dodge for clone, faster cool down on staff skills and remove condion on heal.
I beat pretty much every thing when I’m on. The only class I really have to work to beat are phantasm mesmers. The key is timing vs noobs you can pretty much bust them with just GS. Vs tougher guys I start with burst then slowly wear them down with staff. When they are lowish I steal their boon and shatter + gs zerker burst. You must be very good at using your stealth and staff 2 to confuse people as to where you are and be good at timing sta kitten as well. As I said when I’m on I beat everything, but when I’m off it’s pretty bad. I love this build because I can do everything IF I’m skilled .

I may toy around with this some as I got crushed by another mesmer using the staff and sword+sword. Granted I pretty much suck at this class still but she really did give me a brutal beating.

Are you using a zerker staff though?

Anet, can you please make an option available in the settings to save the UI/key-bindings to the character and not to the account itself? I have 3 level 80 characters I play depending on the needs of the group and it has become a significant issue with my settings as I’m constantly having to change them around depending on what character I have active. Every other MMO I’ve played allowed you to create settings and save them per character. Can you please make this option available?

I was wondering, can I use a transmute stone to take the image of the Human cultural T2 coat onto my zerker coat if my character is a Norn? I wasn’t sure if the transmute option ignored the race requirement. Sorry, I just really hate the Norn sets.

I watched your video and to be honest, it looks rather intersting considering how many escapes you have should they become necessary. Right now, I use a GS + Sword/Sword build with half zerker, half valkyrie gear. The direct target damage I can produce is freaking insane but I only have blink/decoy as real means of getting out of a bad situation. Essentially, I have very limited defensive skills and 0 condition damage. Perhaps I’ll give this a try and see how I like it.

I toyed around with this a bit more and just found it to be frustrating and though the armor/protection is really nice, it’s not really for me. I picked up the sword/sword for my secondary set and to my surprise, it’s been a ton of fun to play so far. I kind of even felt bad when some up-leveled ranger ran into my path and that iSwordsman wacked him for over 7K.

So, if I stick with the GS, the only real secondary set will have to use sword #2 as it’s main defensive ability?

The following problem occurs only on my Mesmer and ONLY on my secondary weapon set. I have reset the default UI configuration and this problem continues to occur. Can you please provide guidance?

THE BUG:

For some reason, whenever I activate my #3 skill, my #9 skill goes off at the same time. For example, if I try to create a clone with Sword 3 and have Mantra of Pain set in my #9 slot, both will activate as soon as I press the #3 ability. In addition, there is a small, grey “lock” icon above the #9 slot. I have yet to find out what that icon means or how to stop this problem. In either case, I can cast two abilities by simply pressing the #3. Again, this only happens when using my secondary weapon set.

I’ve been toying around with my Mesmer again as she was pretty well geared before I changed over to my Thief. I was wondering though, are there any decent power-based builds that allow for the GS + Staff? I was using GS + Sword/Pistol which was really fun and dropped out some amazing damage but it was also fairly squishy.

I’ve looked at some of the scepter builds and to be honest, they just aren’t that much to me. I know that the GS has some issues but the purple laser of death is just… pretty.
