I have a hybrid condition Mesmer but when it comes to Necro’s, I don’t even really try to stack the conditions because of all your anti-condi tricks. For the most part, I just try to drop my iZerker + illusions and then keep at max distance. I made the mistake once of underestimating your class and that resulted in a very quick defeat.
Folks, let’s try to keep this on topic w/o arguments please.
I don’t know why those who oppose this idea are all that concerned because if implemented, how would it actually affect any other player? This is a simple request not too much unlike the current gender/name change options. They are essentially additional tools for the player to make the game more enjoyable and provide additional service support options.
Those statements by Anet were a good while ago and much has changed in the game since that time. I would, at this point, they would be willing to make this possible considering how much money they would make in the process.
When people ask for a race change option, they likely don’t care about orders or anything else.
Perhaps I’m wrong but I don’t see how this option would be so difficult to implement. Simply provide a scroll that once activated, will send the player back to the initial character creation option where they can select the race, gender, etc.
I’m willing to bet that most of us who support a race change option don’t much care about the race-quests or the faction choices. However, if that is an issue, I see there are two quick options:
#1: Select the faction as part of the race change process. Faction quests could be reset.
#2: Reset all race/faction-based quests upon completion of race change.
Either way, it would be nice to see Anet respond with their views as I’ve not seen anything official since this topic came up.
@duckgirl
I love your artwork! I sent you a PM a moment ago asking about a commission request. Do you have a page on Deviantart as well?
Wish these were available for armor skins.
I forgot
Step 1: get dmg fall reduction
Step 2: find unorganised zerg (easy these days)
Step 3: lure them to cliff
Step 4: jump down and laught
That’s awesome!
Another trick is to….
Step 1: Find blob standing on the edge of a cliff shooting at another blob.
Step 2: Stealth up behind blob on the cliff.
Step 3: Use Mesmer GS #5 (or something similar).
Step 4: Watch blob all die from falls.
Don’t cross the streams!
Ok, first, let me state that this is just a silly thread that will probably grow as folks have more examples of funny ways to wipe blobs in WvW. After last night, I just had to post this here…
Ok, suggestions #1 – The Unsuspecting Ranger
Step 1: Roll a Mesmer
Step 2: Find Blob (Giant red mass on map that moves w/o much organization).
Step 3: Locate up-leveled Ranger in the middle of the blob
Step 4: Cast Feedback
Step 5: Type /point
Step 6: Type /laugh
Step 7: Watch said up-leveled Ranger wipe almost everyone.
Step 8: Rejoice with a few rounds of ale with your fellow WvW friends!
Step 9: Rinse/repeat
Ok, that’s my initial suggestion. What’s yours?
I am a high toughness/regen warrior with condi damage and sword/shield and longbow.
I can beat some necros, but not all.
I can beat some thiefs, but not all.
Most DD eles can beat me, but not all.
I can beat all hammer stun wars, except this one legendary guy who I went 1-1 with.
I can beat all Guardians, except this one legendary guy who I went 1-1 with.
I can beat some mesmers, but not all.
I can beat almost all rangers.
That’s a prefect summary I think of how most classes are. Any class can defeat another if it’s played in the hands of an expert.
I, of course, am the ONLY moron in WvW that will evade backwards to avoid the hammer of a Warrior only to NOT notice I was on the edge of a FREAKING cliff!
Therefore, I can beat most class some of the time but I lose to gravity all the time.
This is great! Thanks folks.
I have seen this done a few times before by someone who also had a Mesmer but wanted the mask from their Necro alt. I’m not certain how this is done because isn’t the mask soulbound to the Necro?
Can one of you kind folks explain how I can do this for my Mesmer as well?
Thanks!
This is such a great guide! I’ve been playing my Mesmer since I started in GW2 and I learned a ton from reading this. Course, I play a quirky hybrid build that isn’t even listed but it works very well for me none the less. That’s why this class is so fun, there is so much versatility.
I’d just like to make a point as someone who also plays a Warrior for an alt and have used the GS/Rifle, Hammer, Condition LB, etc builds.
The Warrior has some amazing builds and is a ton of fun to play but from my experience, they don’t match up with the various abilities of other classes. Yes, they have some great support for zergs but I tend to think they lack somewhat in solo.
On the flip side, I run a GS + S/P or S/T Mesmer with precision/toughness/condi for main gear and zerker items for everything else. This, combined with 3 stealth skills and I usually don’t have much trouble with folks. Against warriors, they tend to die rather quickly to the constant direct damage of the clones + the consistent stacking of conditions. Don’t get me wrong, I love my warrior and have spent hours upon hours build her gear but when it comes down to the line, I know my Mesmer will win out 9/10 times.
Just me thoughts…
This option is simple a nice way to correct something or give other options to players who may have leveled an 80 character but no longer play said character due to the race option. I have a female norn alt that if the race change was available, I’d use that, change her name/gender and now I have a totally new character w/o having to start all over again.
Support. I’d pay 1200-1800 gems for a race change, and I couldn’t care less if my personal story was reset. I only WvW anyway. Major support from me.
I agree with Zoada and that’s pretty much the same case for me. I really like one of my alts but it would be great to have something else.
@Nevhie,
I love your videos (subscribed) as the GS is just my favorite weapon in the game for the Mesmer. My build is similar to yours though I changed it just a bit to add more survivability and I use a precision, toughness, condition damage gear with centaur runes. I’ve been using the pistol for my off-hand weapon but it would be nice to have the block that a sword can do. Oh, and Wilson’s build for the Warrior is a ton of fun but cringe it can be pretty easy to dodge the hammer if you know what you’re doing.
From what I’ve read on the Ranger forums, the class really needs some help. However, are they at least decent as a roamer in WvW? If so, can one of you please link me to a build that you recommend?
Thanks!
Oh, and I tried to chat with you on twitch but the darn chat portion isn’t working…
Ok Mesmer Master, what’s the trick with the swiftness? I’m totally lost with this one! I’ve changed my Mesmer over to your build and to be honest, it’s FREAKING AMAZING! I’ve won my first match in sPvP and came in second for most of the day yesterday. In WvW, the only thing I have trouble with are those darn Necro’s!
Anyways, can you PLEASE explain the swiftness part because that’s the one reason why I can’t stand my Mesmer for WvW – she’s too darn slow! Honestly, one of those bunnies ran past me yesterday!
Have we heard anything yet from Anet on this option? I would gladly pay through the nose to change my Nord Mesmer into a Human.
Anet, can you please offer this for us?
Wilson,
I just wanted to let you know that for the last few days, I have been struggleing to find a class that was really just “fun” to play. I have leveled a Warrior, Thief, Mesmer, and an Ele w/o finding that “something” I was looking for.
After watching your vids, I know what I was searching for…
Thanks for posting these!
This build looks REALLY interesting as I love the idea of conditions + direct damage. Just wondering though, why not take runes of the undead for the extra + condition damage?
Awhile back I saw a guy running around WvW using a GS+S/P build but it was built out for condition damage. He was using Precision/Toughness/Condi Damage gear and pretty much ran through a small group. It was impressive to watch.
Do any of ya know build this might have been?
I can kill anyone in wvw with that build so idk what he is talking about. Also the perplex runes make the build strong. I wouldn’t recommend it in pvp though. I can win 2v1s and survive a lot better. There are a lot of other eles that will vouch for me. Go search my name on YouTube and decide for yourself.
Not to question your skill (because I’ve seen your vids) but would you be interested in dueling me sometime? I’d love to see how you play! My D/D Ele was my favorite character but after awhile, it didn’t feel like she could do anything as well as my Warrior can (mobility, condi removal, healing, etc.).
I almost -never- see DD eles in WvW anymore. After the nerfs to their movement skills and immunity healing, they are very uncommon. Much like roaming condi necros, you do on occasion seen one, but they are always using some sort of power/sustain/boon build.
My personal experience with DD ele has been that their condition application is too few and far between. The DD toolset has too many hybrid skills to play well as straight condition, and also forces you to be up close all the time.
I’ve actually never seen one before either but there has been some chatter as of late that it can be very effective if played right. My Ele has just been collecting dust (even though I used to love the class) as my Warrior just feels like she can do just about anything better than my Ele can.
I think I’ll just roll up a Necro and play around with it a bit in sPvP to see how I like the class. I had thought about deleting one of my non-played 80’s but that would just hurt…
Sadly, I have an 80 Mesmer as well that doesn’t ever get played either.
@Aenema of State,
Thanks for the detailed response! I’ve been looking for something “fun” to play other than my Warrior and just can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I thought the D/D Ele would be the key for me but that hasn’t been the case.
I’m on the TC server and so if you’re around in the evenings (EST), would you like to duel a bit in WvW? I’d love to see how you play in action.
Finally did a revamp of my armor combos, switched and remixed pieces around, dusted some of my beloved ones that were sitting in the bank because they had stats that I haven’t used for ages on them and made sure that all my favourite armor parts are used in the two main sets for the 2 stats combinations that i use on a regular basis.
Here’s the effect and some mad ms paint skillz.
I’m very happy with the final dye effect of the first set, after several tries, and every owner of Profane armor should know what I mean
The second set’s dyes are still a work in progress, I’m in the process of buying more from the new Tequatl set
Honestly, you have the best looking Neco I’ve seen yet!
That is the number one worst possible fight for a condi warrior… With a minimum of 2 ways to transfer back your bleeds/burns (5 ways to remove/transfer if they want to take utilities), you don’t stand a chance. I could argue it is fair for various reasons… but in that case it really is an ugly rock vs scissors situation.
Yup, that’s what I learned (the hard way…). I had never come up against a Necro with this sort of build and wasn’t sure what to expect. After I dropped my entire load of conditions on him, I had a rude awakening!
I sent you a message on your Youtube page so I apologize for asking you again here but I’ve been reading up on this D/D Ele build that uses conditions + toughness/healing. Have you fought one of them before as I hear they can be a real pain.
Sorry for all the questions – trying to find a solid alt to play.
@Rennoko,
That’s been pretty much my experience with fighting against this build. In sPvP, I pretty much don’t stand a chance as I’m running either a condi build myself or using a GS+Rifle which isn’t really effective in sPvP. In WvW, I found that if I stick to my zerker build, they don’t tend be be a problem but if I’m running condi, I might as well just give up.
If I where you I would wait until the October 15th patch to see if perplexity runes are nerfed.
Could you not just use the undead runes for the + toughness/condition damage instead?
Condition builds are a joke on ele. I strongly suggest you do not buy gear for it
Why do you say that? I’ve heard they can be very effective.
Thanks for posting this link and for the advice!
Hello again everyone!
First, let me apologize for my constant questions as it seams that is what I spend most of my time doing here. One thing about GW2 is that there is so much to learn…
Anyways, I have been messing around for awhile now on trying to find a fun class to play for an alt and thus far, nothing has fit the bill. I tried a Mesmer, Thief, and even a D/D Ele and while each had some great aspects, I got bored much faster than I expected. As someone who spent 5+ years in WoW as a Warlock, I figured that Necro might be a good option.
Anyways, here are my questions for you smart folks:
1. I would like to play a heavy condition build that also provides a great deal of survivability. Is there a build that fits this role well?
2. How well does your class do in team support, AOE damage, and solo roaming?
3. I have always heard that Necro’s have terrible mobility. After playing a Mesmer for awhile, I’m not sure any class can be slower than they are. How is your mobility in WvW?
4. Lastly, do ya’ll know of a video that provides an in-depth overview of your class and really explains the mechanics? I’m seriously considering deleting my level 80 D/D Ele but want to make sure I’ll enjoy the Necro before I make such a drastic move.
As always, thanks a ton for taking the time to answer my questions!
I read a post not too long ago talking about a D/D condition build that was very effective in WvW and PvP but sadly enough, I can’t find it now. Would any of you remember this build or have a link to it?
Thanks!
Ah… Does it work well in WvW? Sorry for the questions as like I said, I know little to nothing about your class.
Well, if it’s a noob build, he sure made me look stupid. For a moment, I was considering deleting a character just to roll a Necro and see what the deal was.
Hello folks!
Time and time again I get simply destroyed by a few Necro’s in PvP using a 30/20/0/0/20 build but I’ve not a clue what this really is. I’ve never played your class before and frankly, I never really considered a Necro all that much of a threat until these last few days.
Can you please post a link to this build for me? Is this something that works as well in WvW as it does in PvP?
I would love to see a video of this sort of build in action. If either of you record something, can you post it here?
Anet,
Could you please make an option available for players to swap between 2 different builds without having to go back and use the reset option? It would be great if we could have 2 builds and then “lock” them with a “swap” option under the hero tab.
As a warrior, I often have to swap between a team support build for WvW and then over to my zerker build for PvE. Having to do this a couple times of day gets really old.
Can you please make this available for us?
Thanks!
Either way, it’s a nice change from the traditional zerker build. The increased survivability+mobility makes it very fun as a roamer.
This WH version is pretty impressive though. I just had a 10+ minute battle against a D/D ele that was probably the most exciting duel I’ve ever head. At the end, I could get her down to almost nothing but could never finish her off. The constant regen was really nice.
I think I’ll be sticking with this for a while and see how things go.
@Fiorrello,
Not sure I follow you (granted I only made 80 on my warrior a few days ago). How is the WH all that effective? By dropping the off-hand sword, you give up a huge block ability and that nice extra condition you can use with the #4.
The other problem I have found with the condi build in general is that when you face off against a Necro, things don’t end well. All those conditions I apply are sent right back to me.
thats kind of where the warhorn comes into play. instead of having to build up and land your burst you can use your warhorn to remove your conditions for you. the big main condition removing skill has a 12 second cooldown and effects all allies in a 1200 range radius. on top of that it turns bleed and torment into vigor and poison (one of our big counters) into regen.
so the trade off is instead of a fairly decent block and another dot condition you are gettting aoe weakness, condition removal, and a blast finisher.
Ok, you’ve convinced me to give it a try but I must say, my duel swords look amazing so this might hurt my overall sexiness…
How does this work against those anti-condi Necro’s out there that just transfer back all the conditions to you? I ran into one of them yesterday and it wasn’t pretty.
Hello folks!
I have now leveled a Warrior, Thief, D/D Ele, and a Mesmer though I have not really developed much skill yet in any of them other than the Thief. My question for you all is which of these would work best for solo roaming while still being able to provide some sort of benefit to the zerg?
My Warrior is a condi build using S/S + LB which I found much more survivable than my old GS+Rifle build. Sucks if I run into a Necro though…
The Thief changes back and forth from condi to the typical glass cannon. Not sure how effective they are to help zergs though as the SB kind of sucks?
The Mesmer is crazy fun but can’t outrun a dying snail. I’m using the GS + S/S build so she probably sucks for roaming too.
And the D/D Ele, my favorite class in the game just doesn’t feel like she could kill much of anything. I have her using the 0/10/0/30/30 build with a mixture of gear.
Anyways, any thoughts would be greatly welcome!
@Fiorrello,

Folks, I’ve been playing this for a decent amount of time now and so I have an 80 Thief, Warrior, D/D Ele, and a Mesmer. Each has relatively the same level of gear as I can’t seam to stick with one class long enough to really develop them. I was wondering if you all might be able to help me find what would fit best based upon what I’m wanting to do?
I mainly try to roam around the WvW but sometimes get stuck in the normal zerg. The problem I have is that really want to have some sort of survivability/mobility while being able to push out a decent enough damage that I can survive on my own. So far, I’ve not really found something that is balanced in generally all situations (if there is such a thing).
I have come to enjoy the thief but being burst doesn’t leave room for much mistakes. The condi warrior I have is fun but not all that great at roaming. The D/D ele feels like she has no real ability to kill anything and the GS mesmer just has terrible mobility.
What do you all suggest?
This explains a great deal actually. I was running GS + Rifle zerker build and found the Necro class something to just almost 1-shot when they were out in the open. The problem is, a full zerker warrior can trip over a blade of grass and then die from it. To better balance myself, I thought a full condi build would work well but I had no idea how well ya’ll can turn them.
I actually saw a guy in sPvP today with 3 other condi built classes attacking him and he killed them all. Was pretty darn impressive.
