More hairstyles please?
Anet,
Do you have a tentative date on when additional hairstyles will be available? I plan on buying another makeover kit but wanted to wait until the new options are available. With the release of the xpack, I figured they would be here before the end of the year.
Any news?
I used a few + magic find boosters and actually got the black one the other day.
Ok sweet! Thanks.
Hello Folks!
After the recent fix to the HP problem, I’m going to go ahead and buy the expansion. I’m wondering though, I saw that the activation portion is listed this as “region free.” Does this mean it will work in NA and the EU?

Thanks Anet! This is a much more manageable amount to work with.
the problem is skins are not going in the game. 2 armor sets for the entire expansion. another outfit out today…
I hate to make the comparison but when WoW released it’s first expansion, there were a ton of new armor sets and weapons that were immediately available within the first starting zone. TONS of them…
HoT costs the same as what I paid for this WoW expansion and we get 2. I know that math really isn’t my subject but even that addition doesn’t appear to make sense.

I know we’ve talked about this already several times now but what I can’t get over is how this was kept so quite throughout the pre-release phases. Something that fundamentally changes the game mechanics is only addressed as a forum response right before the game goes live?
Say what you will but I think Anet knew well enough that this decision was going to anger the fans and that’s why nothing was said about it even though players have been asking for details for months now.
I had a gut feeling NOT to buy the expansion until it had been live for awhile and players started to see what content was really in it. I’m sure glad I actually listened to myself (for once).
I will NEVER buy an outfit! As someone who likes to personalize my characters, outfits are completely useless to me. As for skins, well, I’ve bought loads of them.
As for HoT, this is the first xpack I’ve played in ANY MMO that had so few new armor/weapons available. I’m personally very disappointed in what I’ve seen thus far.

11:00 AM in Seattle. What is happening at ANet HQ?
OPTIONS:
1. Devs are trying to figure out a solution to the problem w/o making things worse in the process.
OR
2. Anet employees are searching Monster.com for a new job.
Would a variant of this work in WvW and PvE as well? It does look pretty fun to play.

They’ve taken all control and decision making away from the player. It sucks.
Very well said. With over 2,800 responses and now the most viewed thread on the forums, do you all honestly think that Anet will change the mechanics of the expansion?
I’m actually kind of surprised that they haven’t at least said something yet.
PvP – I play Auramancer DD and it’s loads of fun for tempest.
Kyon, could I trouble you for a link to your build? I’ve not really looked into the tempest much. I had been running a condi version in tPvP and now with the human racial elite skill, it might be worth checking into again. It was just nice as nobody played the build and my Ele was immune to condi’s until you got her health below 90%.

I took a look at Metacritic a few moments ago and the expansion is only scoring at 6.9 right now. That’s pretty darn sad as GW2 was the best MMO on the market for years. I hate seeing the HP issue tearing down such a good game.
I wish Anet would fix this and turn the expansion back to the core game of no grinding/casual friendly.
“1/10, grindy as hell” and “10/10 because people are whiny” don’t help anyone decide if a game/expansion is any good by looking at the reviews and it makes it harder for Anet to look for feedback.
Yeah, that’s a good point. I’ve not purchased the expansion yet mainly due to this issue as when I read it right before release, the “red flags” started waving. It’s sad too because I LOVE the personal story and wanted to see what happens next.
Since GW2 was released, I’ve pretty much soloed everything. It’s how I like to play the game. I now have 6 alts, all level 80. With the current format, I should almost delete them as I’ll never get around to doing such a grind on them.
Perhaps they can just make it account wide?
In an effort to protect players from a potential market crash, I have set up my own GW2 401K plan for all interested. Just send me all our gold and I’ll keep it safe for you. In fact, I’ll even give back a nice 1% return each year….
All sarcasm aside, I did find one of those color-changing things (celestial stats) that changes your character to all black inside a tick or treat bag. When I checked the market, they were going from about 230-1000 gold. Seems rather pricey to me.

Not to be a nagging pain in the butt but any thoughts you all might have would be greatly appreciated. I really want to find a way to make this character work in all areas of the game but I’m just not sure that’s even possible.

I paid $100 to play new specs through new zones. Give me my elites to play and I’ll shut up along with everyone else who’s kittened over this. It’s really quite simple.
/agreed.
From my perspective, the game was marketed to us as having all these great new skills that we could use for our characters. So much was focused around these elite abilities and was probably one of the biggest selling points.
Folks on this forum started asking over 3 months ago about these skill points and we don’t get an official response until 72 hours prior to release?
To me, this is borderline false advertising at worst, deceptive advertising at best. I still find it hard to believe we’re even having problems like this.

As the title says, I’m trying to find out from you all if this build is still viable and worth sticking with. I’ll explain my question more below. The problem I’m having is that the D/D Ele was recommended to me right after release and it has always been the most fun, exciting character I have. Sadly, I deleted my Ele some time ago as I felt that this build had to do things 2x as hard to get the same results as just about everyone else. That, and those rotations are easily predictable against a skilled player.
After recently returning to the game and releveling my Ele again, I’d really like to know what I can honestly expect from this character in PvE, sPvP, and WvW. With that, I would like to ask you all to give me your brutally honest opinion as, despite the issues with HoT, I’d really like to find a reason to stick with GW2.
Here is my current build: Power D/D Yes, I don’t like the celestial builds and while I’ll use one in sPvP, this is the build/gear I use in WvW and PvE. I’ve not yet crafted my ascended armor set yet until I know for certain this is the character I will focus on. I also use a condi/perplexity build in WvW.
1. PvE: While I’ll bring a staff along, I really hate playing any other style and the D/D build listed above. I used this for dungeons but changed over to the frost bow and the FGS for extra DPS. It was a blast! Outside my guild though, if people see that I’m D/D, they ask me to login to another character or just kick me from the group. Does D/D now completely suck in PvE even if you bring along the bow and GS?
2. WvW: I loved those duels in WvW! Course these days, it’s more like a 1v50 when I try to roam around… Anyways, is the D/D Ele still strong as a roaming build/class as well as with groups?
3. sPvP: In sPvP I tend to run the typical celestial meta build and while it’s fun, it often feels like it is only effective at wearing folks down. Yes, by the 3rd time through fire the target is pretty much gone but that takes some time! As a sPvP team, do you want a D/D Ele with you?

I looked a moment ago at that Metacritic link and the current score has dropped to 3.9. That’s pretty sad because for years I felt that GW2 was the best MMO available as it had so much available without the typical grind.
I hope that Anet changes this. I’ve had too many good memories with friends in this game and don’t want to see it end like this.
It’s just a smokescreen for an adjustment to level cap.Period.
That’s pretty much what I was thinking as well.
I mean, we can’t even use elite skills in sPvP unless I grind them out in PvE? Really?
Thanks Roarkin! This is a bit off but pretty much what I’ve got thus far:
Folks,
I’m looking to level a D/D Ele as they just look to be so much fun to play. However, I can’t yet craft celestial gear and was wondering, what is a decent alternative until I can make some? I do have several celestial rings, trinkets.

Don’t jump the gun. It’s release window sucker time.Basically peeps payed money to be beta testers.
Check in 2-3 months from now.All good.
That’s a good point actually. Of course, in 2-3 months Black Desert will be going through pre-US/EU launch. Should things not get ironed out, I think think GW2 will have some serious competition.

For a “casual” player with 5 alts (all level 80), these changes have all but killed the game for me. After 3 years, I think it’s time to find another MMO to play.
GW2 was always fun because I could jump on any of my characters and build/play them the way I wanted to play them. That’s no longer possible.
Howdy folks!
First of all, I don’t take credit for this build event though I’ve changed it some to better suit PvP. As someone who never played a melee ranger before, this was a completely new concept that I figured I would give a try. I’m wondering though, have any of you either played as a melee trapper in PvP or fought against one? While I’m clearly no expert, I’ve found that against most folks, this build just overwhelms them with tons of conditions and raw damage.
Anyways, here is the build: Trapper Ranger
I’m sorry I don’t have any vids of this yet but I’ll try to get some recorded this weekend. In the meantime, what do you all think of this? I’ve found it to be much more fun and effective than my bunker guard/warrior.
Condi mesmers OP? Moa getting you down? To much stealth driving you mad?
Ez to beat. No cleanse necessary.
https://youtu.be/aHDfiGNaQfw?t=42
LOL! That was me on my Mesmer! You REALLY don’t want to use my terrible skill as an example on how to kill a condi Mesmer.
I was so ticked because I wanted to chase you down and, well, you know, but I got almost no support trying to defend home. I’m sorry though about the Moa… I just think it’s fun to Moa another Mesmer.
In my own defense, I recently returned to GW2 and chose to make my Mesmer my main character. Condi builds are something I’ve not tried much in the past but they do very well against melee classes.
After that last fight I thought to myself, “Crap, perhaps I should get a pistol…”

And this reminds me why I did not preorder the game. I think I’ll wait a while and see how this gets resolved.
As a casual player, this pretty much kills the game for me.
What really concerns me though with HoT is there is now, ANOTHER controversy about the xPack. Why did they just not release all this information long time ago and not within 72hrs of launch?

So I thought the great selling point with GW2 is that it didn’t “force” you to have to farm such items just to play all the skills of your class. Am I right in saying that’s not the case anymore?

This explains most of what is coming in the expansion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wisyZ4YAbE
This is actually a great guide and answered several of my questions! Thanks for posting this link.
- I had no idea that mastery tracks were account bound. This is great!
- 50 member squad UI for WvW?
- Guild Vs Guild battles!!!
- I thought there was only 1 new PvP reward track. Good to hear there will be several.
- I wish there was some confirmation, one way or the other, if there will be new or additional character customization option. GW2 really lacks in character diversity.
Looks like I’m going to order it tonight…

I’m kinda in the same boat as Iason right now. I’ve just not seen enough (or had enough questions answered) to go ahead and buy the expansion yet. I’ll wait for a few weeks and see what the reviews are before I go ahead an order it.
Right now, while I still think GW2 is the best MMO I’ve played, there are still too many unknowns about the Xpack.
I thought pink was the official color of breast cancer awareness month… /confused.
Great video! As someone who has only used the staff for a condition build, can you give me some advice on how you use it with a GS/Power build? This looks like a ton of fun.
(edited by FinalPatriot.8034)
As someone who plays a Mesmer for a main and also has a Thief alt, dagger storm is great tool to use against those clones. If you know it’s a PU/condi Mesmer, dagger storm + burst will be pretty effective. It doesn’t work worth crap against a power Mesmer though.
As a mesmer who has died countless times to a thief, I can tell you, ya’ll have many tools to counter our skills. D/P though is the most troublesome when I’m running condi’s but in my power build, ya’ll only need to make 1 mistake and it’s over. I love dueling thieves though… They always know how to make me hurt if I screw up my timing.

I think if Anet would have come out with a much more detailed overview of all the content including examples of the new armor/weapons available, character hairstyles/customization, etc., there would be much more interests. When I think of other games I’ve played in the past, they kept the story content secret but weeks before release there was TONS of information about what new content was available.
UPDATE:
Thanks so much for suggesting I go for the Mesmer!!!
I ran 2 builds using a PU concept that stacks blinds/reflection with one being a power/crit based and the other going full confusion/condi. Both were freaking amazing with a bit of planning! I actually chased this power ranger around a PvP match doing little more than reflecting/blinding him. Every time I would use my heal spell, the poor guy would try to burn me down. I’m not sure he ever figured out how he kept killing himself.
Again, this has been a ton of fun! In WvW, I had half a zerg chasing me for awhile until I ran into a small roaming group coming the other way. It was a ton of fun going in and out of stealth, using ports, and constantly spamming blinds on everyone!
This looks to be a pretty interesting build OP. Do you have a video of it in action?
@ Kheo,
I actually looked into the Rev and really didn’t like the class much at all. The Daredevil was interesting but I’m not overly excited about the changes to the thief class. I was one of those that was hoping it would get a rifle.
@ Ooshi,
I see what you’re saying now. Thanks for posting this!
That’st the thing though, I love the GS for the mesmer! I see what ya’ll are saying though about the lack of damage. Lemme go back and fool around with this build a bit…
I’m just doing some theroycrafting here but was wondering if it was possible to make a viable combination of the PU and Chronomancer builds. The idea being to create as much sustain as possible and still allowing for the stealth concepts. I’m not sure if shield would be worth picking up instead of the torch but I figured I’d try it.
Do you all think this build would be effective for WvW?
You’ve got Mesmer already which seems to fit perfectly with your playstyle and with chrono spec you get a permanent 25% speed boost as one of the traits. They remain super fun to play in PvP and you will love the it even more with chronomaster. I do tend to find it a bit underwhelming in PvE.
Engineer is quite fun as well, although scrapper is all about the hammer so you have to get up close and personal. You still have access to the kits/rifle/pistol if you want to stay ranged but give the hammer a try, I’ve loved it. They are really fun to play both in PvP/PvE, although not as relaxing as playing a Necro or Ranger. Those are my two favourite profs and I’ve got one of each.
Ooshi, do you by chance have a link to this build for HoT?
Thanks so much folks! This is why I love the GW2 community – always willing to help!
I actually started GW2 as a Mesmer then later deleted her. What a mistake! I got her back to 80 now and she has almost all ascended trinkets and a couple other items.
I didn’t know that the chrono had that movement bonus! This means I’m not forced to use traveler’s runes anymore??!! /goofy dance
I actually did a test on my mesmer against the jungle dragon and she was able to kill him faster than my pew pew ranger. I totally didn’t expect that!
Howdy folks!
I just came back to the game after leaving for a few months and while I’ve not bought HoT yet, I’m strongly considering it now. I wasn’t impressed at first but more of recent info has caught my attention.
Anyways… I need some help/suggestions from you all on narrowing down a class to use as my “main.”
Unlike every other MMO I’ve played, every class in GW2 is fun to play in its own way so picking one to focus on is almost impossible for me… ? This is why I’m only “moderately” skilled because I play all my characters all the freaking time! Ugh.
WHAT I LIKE:
#1. Mobility – I love characters that have tons of mobility, blinks, ports, speed, etc. The faster the move/fight skills the more I like em! Too bad you have to be a Jedi Master to do well as a D/D Ele… Just think of me as a Jack Russel Terrier after drinking a gallon of coffee.
#2. Escape – If I can’t win a 1v1 or 1vX, I’m that person that will turn tail and run like hell. Shameless, I know, but I have no pride…
#3. Balance – Balance between WvW, PvP, and PvE. What I mean is that I like to play all aspects of the game without having to do MAJOR changes to my character. I’ll change up gear and the like but nothing crazy. Example: I was playing a P/D condi thief in WvW & PvP but changed over to P/P for PvE. It got old and I was always low on bag space.
Playstyle – I tend to prefer something with ranged but it’s not a deal breaker for me.
What I currently have at 80: Thief, Mesmer, Warrior (ugh…) Guardian, Ranger.
Thanks so much for any suggestions!
(edited by FinalPatriot.8034)
I solo roam in WvW about, oh, 99.9% of the time simply because I think it’s fun to test my skill level against someone else. Most of my friends in the game have come from dueling and earning respect for another roamer.
I play on a T1 server and without going into detail, it’s nearly impossible to solo roam there these days. Sadly, I tend to only roam now with my PU mesmer or my hybrid thief because, as was already stated, there is a freaking zerg behind every blade of grass.
I don’t mind getting killed by a better player. In fact, I often learn more when I lose then when I win. What does bother me are those players who don’t respect the rule of the duel.
Out of revenge, I “sometimes” will sneak my way into a zerg and spam clones + shatter + run like heck just to tick everyone off…
It’s good to hear that there will be more hairstyles coming out. I just hope that if you buy the expansion, you won’t have to turn around and buy a kit just to change to the new options. It would be nice if you got 1 free change on each of your characters.
Anet… please?
Thanks for all the help folks!
@AgitatedFox,
Yeah, I looked at the trapper build and it just wasn’t my thing. What is this zoo build you’re talking about?
